"You don't have to understand people's experiences to be kind. Kindness doesn't require logic, it requires grace."
Kindness is not a matter of intellectual comprehension; it's a matter of the heart.
We don't need to fully grasp the intricacies of another person's experiences to offer a helping hand, a listening ear, or a word of encouragement.
Kindness doesn't require logic, it requires grace—a willingness to extend compassion, understanding, and support, even when we don't fully understand the complexities of their situation.
It's about recognizing the shared humanity that binds us, the inherent worth and dignity that resides in every soul.
So, let us choose kindness, not because we understand, but because we care, because we believe in the power of compassion to heal, to uplift, and to make the world a little brighter, one act of grace at a time.
Oh, life is a glorious cycle of song,
A medley of extemporanea;
And love is a thing that can never go wrong;
And I am Marie of Roumania.
DOROTHY PARKER
The boss of a big company needed to call one of his employees about an urgent problem with one of the main computers. He dialed the employee's home phone number and was greeted with a child's whispered, "Hello?"
Feeling put out at the inconvenience of having to talk to a youngster the boss asked, "Is your Daddy home?"
"Yes", whispered the small voice.
"May I talk with him?" the man asked.
To the surprise of the boss, the small voice whispered, "No."
Wanting to talk with an adult, the boss asked, "Is your Mommy there?"
"Yes," came the answer.
"May I talk with her?"
Again the small voice whispered, "No."
Knowing that it was not likely that a young child would be left home alone, the boss decided he would just leave a message with the person who should be there watching over the child. "Is there any one there besides you?" the boss asked the child.
"Yes," whispered the child, "A policeman."
Wondering what a cop would be doing at his employee's home, the boss asked "May I speak with the policeman?"
"No, he's busy," whispered the child.
"Busy doing what?" asked the boss.
"Talking to Daddy and Mommy and the Fireman," came the whispered answer.
Growing concerned and even worried as he heard what sounded like a helicopter through the ear piece on the phone the boss asked, "What is that noise?"
"A hello-copper," answered the whispering voice.
"What is going on there?" asked the boss, now alarmed. In an awed whispering voice the child answered, "The search team just landed the hello-copper."
Alarmed, concerned, and more than just a little frustrated, the boss asked, "Why are they there?"
Still whispering, the young voice replied along with a muffled giggle...
"They're looking for me."
Time decides who you meet in life.
Your heart decides who you want in your life.
And your behaviour decides who stays in your life.
Good morning..
Starting off at 0°F and it is to be a sunny day!! Not sure what is on the agenda according to Fitbit I am to rest......we'll see.
Will make Phyllis's custard in the IP and just work around home then sew.
Bubble, thank you for the new start..loved the giggle and I can just see a child doing that!!
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Thank you, Bubble, for using one of my graphics.
And, for giving me a giggle to start my day. I have always loved anything that Dorothy Parker wrote.
Late start today. Lucky I didn't sleeep through the new month beginning. So far I have no idea what it's like outside, - except that it is still fairly dark.
Liked the new start up here.
:hello:
The sun the SUN THE SUN - tra la - haven't seen a bright sunrise in days that feels like weeks - the forecast suggests the sun will be with us for a few days and then back to rain and colder temps.
Bubble Loved the story of the youngster talking to the father's boss - that end was precious but oh how the parents must have been frantic...
Washer and dryer repaired - should have guessed - just shy of $600 that I was afraid that would be the cost and should have just gone ahead and purchased new - the simplest with no bells and whistles at Home Depot was $4 something I think $469 or maybe $489 but even if together they were $1,000 it would have only been $400 more and I'd have brand new appliances that in the future would be simpler to repair. Well it's done...!
Now if I can get the furnace mess straightened out - they did replace the thermostat and now when the heat comes on it finishes up with the AC coming on for a minute cooling the warm air - what happened to good craftsmanship in products - this is a Honeywell product - Is it also made outside the US by someone barely receiving subsistence pay?
Well at least the sun is out and that is something to smile about - hope y'all have a great day...
Quote from: BarbStAubrey on February 01, 2025, 10:27:31 AMnow when the heat comes on it finishes up with the AC coming on for a minute cooling the warm air
Sounds like a set up problem to me - very wasteful. Maybe heating and cooling differentials overlapping. Talk to the installer about it. Maybe they can make an adjustment (Which IMHO they should have checked when installing.).
Well, Good Morning Everyfriend! I checked and it's still morning. I've been running up and down the hall and getting stuff done and I think I might be ready for lunch and then an afternoon nap. You don't think I might be getting OLD, do you?
It sounds like all of you are busy, too, doing whatever it is that you do!
I loved the new month opening. Thank you, BUBBLE! You sure are good at that stuff and I always love the things you put into the openings!
Now I better get back to work or I'll never get my nap in. I do have supper in a casserole ready to be baked when the time comes. I sure hope I don't forget about it. Enjoy the rest of your day and sneak back in here and tell us how you did that! We're nosy!
Quote from: JaneS on February 01, 2025, 11:53:07 AMI loved the new month opening. Thank you, BUBBLE! You sure are good at that stuff and I always love the things you put into the openings!
Me too.
Happy February Oneth!
I waited until Bubble had changed the page to a new month to explain why I haven't posted in quite a while.
I had no energy or appetite for quite a while. Two weeks ago on Thursday, I was fixing dinner while son #2 was working on my new printer. I suddenly felt weak, turned to grab my walker - and collapsed! Fortunately, son was here.
He took me to the emergency room and they determined my sodium level was way too low. So they sent me to the hospital.
I spent the next two days having a saline drip into an I.V. The staff was wonderful, and I was well taken care of. Both sons spent time with me and son#1 spent the night - because son#2 was too tall to fit in the recliner chair provided ;)
On Saturday (2 weeks ago today), sodium level was back to normal (barely) and I was sent home. After seeing my regular physician, I went to son#1's home and spent three nights. (a big plus was that I was able to spend time with Great Grandson because they keep him during his mama's morning work hours)
Since then, I have been at home by myself and feeling pretty close to normal. "Normal" is changing.
I have reluctantly agreed to having a home care helper two afternoons a week. She starts next week and I'm not sure I have enough for her to do for the required 4 hours. I have plenty of help with housekeeping and ordering groceries delivered - and neighbor is willing to take my trash bin out and bring it back in. I still fix my meals - although I do use prepared foods a lot and have found two local places which delivers prepared meals that I can order from. I have to have blood tested regularly to see if sodium level stays within normal range. Ugh! My arm is constantly bruised! :tickedoff:
I don't fit with current trends because I need to eat more salt (almost everyone tries to avoid that) and doctors want me to gain about 5-6 pounds (when ads are constantly for weight loss!)
Not sure I have enough to post regularly but will read and check in once in a while.
Enjoy your day, Everyfriend :smitten:

Thank you all, I am delighted that you like the fresh page. I confess it is not easy to guess what will please, what will be of interest. I am glad when I succeed. Thank you for your appreciation.
Good mid-morning, nine fifty am with minus three, quite a difference from the overnight low of minus thirty-four. We're going back to more positive temperatures as the clouds return, holding in the heat.
Meet and greets went well, Farrah's fed and off napping. My morning routine was a bit rushed today, as I was watering my plants while doing meet and greets. Now, with coffee in hand, I'm off to see the internet.
Bubble, you always find the most interesting tidbits for each new month! Dorthy Parker, along with Winston Churchill are my favorites for go to quotes, neither suffered fools gladly.
Callie I answered you in Norm's about low in salt possibly from dehydration.
Jane, you and Amy are always so busy. I save up for sprints here and there and then back to simple household basics. I'm more of a tortoise in that regard. I do have an Amazon package due today, so will hopefully see that soon.
Well Patricia, you will be happy to know I didnt do hardly a thing other than meals and sewing!
Callie , hope you are feeling better .
Enjoy your evening.
I had the day off from Cooper today and it was very quiet around here. However, I did have a guest. My daughter, Cindy's best friend from school and after, has been stopping by and dropping off things to eat and sticking around and chatting. She also asks if I want to ride along to the store with here. Next week she's planning a trip to a country store that is WAY out in the country and I'm going with her. I went before and we had a fun trip! I think she misses her parents and she's adopted me! I'm delighted!
Supper was good tonight. I got it ready earlier and just had to pop it in the oven. It was fish filets in special sauce with potatoes cut up and added to the casserole and some corn in the corner. I have enough for supper tomorrow and enough fish to freeze some for a later meal!
CALLIE, I'm sorry you've had such a rough time and aren't you luck that your son was there when you really needed him! I'm glad to hear you are recovering and I hope the recovery continues! You be very careful!
I didn't have Cooper today but I took two walks without him and it felt good! I like him to lead the way but I think I did OK. Two neighbors in cars stopped to ask where my doggie was!
I hope you all have a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow. Make the day your own in every way! And don't forget to stop by and tell us how you did that! We're still nosy!
Good midafternoon at three thirty-eight and plus two as we warm up with clouds and snow moving in. I just had breakfast at two pm and finished watering my plants and clearing out in order to refresh Farrah's kitty litter.
Yesterday, I made a large pot of bean soup with leftover ham from Christmas, and had two servings then and one today, with the remainder going into the freezer. I also had a snack 0f cheddar cheese one in the morning and next just now, so I'm probably good for the day.
My forty-nine years of working late afternoon and early evening or overnight have messed up my mealtimes. Even now, twelve years after retirement, I still don't even have any hunger pains until two or later in the afternoon. And yes, I habitually go to bed at ten pm and wake up at seven am.
My Amazon order arrived and while the box corner was damaged, the items inside were wrapped well and undamaged.

Good morning...
Calling for snow later this morning, I hope it is like a teenager and doesn't listen. I really can't complain as so far the snow has all but one easy to move. Temp is -7° so snow would be light/fine..I hope.
Jane, nice to get a day off but I am sure you missed your walking buddy.
Patricia, that soup sounds good a real stick to your ribs soup! That is one of our favourites.
Better see what needs ro be done and what I can leave and worry about tomorrow!
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Happy Groundhog Day...we know we are in for more winter!
Good morning, happy groundhog day! "Punxsutawney Phil has declared that there will be an additional six weeks of winter instead of an early spring.
Every year on February 2, the groundhog emerges from his burrow to see whether or not he sees his own shadow as a way to predict the weather. This year was the 139th year in the history of the famous woodchuck doing so, also given the name Groundhog Day.
This year, he had seen his shadow resulting in the prediction of a longer winter." 😕
A good Sunday morning to EVERYFRIEND ☃️
AMY, I can not agree more with you than to say PLEASE, for warmer weather to come our way‼️
THANK YOU BUBBLE, for our fresh start and the fun things you shared....especially the little girl story. I have already shared it and everyone loves it‼️
CALLIE, sorry to read about your incident and the hospital stay. Hope you continue to feel much better.
Belated Happy Birthday Wishes, BARB. I am sad for you having to deal with repairs of washer/dryer but that darn thermostat. Seems par for the course these days though.....no one seems to really know how to even program their own product 😩😩
This has been a stressful week personally and nationally with the horrific airplane incidents🙏
PATRICIA.......yummm bean soup....one of my very favorites😘
JANE, I enjoyed details regarding your stay with family and how you are getting settled back in at home. What a delightful lady to bring you prepared meals and to stay and visit with you ❣️
I will be having my first cataract surgery this coming Thursday. Everyone says it is nothing to stew over....how great I will see etc.etc.‼️ I am counting on this 😘
Enjoy your day.
Jenny, it's very simple, (soak, overnight); your dried pinto, navy and black beans, and dried yellow and green peas. I sautéd in butter, two small yellow onions, bacon bits and one garlic clove. Sprayed my Dutch oven with avocado oil, and added in beans, peas, and onion, and garlic, grind to your taste, black pepper, Kosher salt, and other to your taste seasonings.
Fill with water just to cover and cook on low for three hours before bringing it up to medium for the last two hours. I like to add a bit of large flake nutritional yeast for the last two hours. I use the Bob's Red Mill brand.
Of course this is all subjective, and it's one I've cobbled together and have added bits of this and that over time. But, it is a great soup, and you can add the meat of your choice or not. I used the last of my Christmas ham, cut into chunks, but you do you. I generally add the meat I have available.
I rarely follow a recipe as written and generally change to what I have in hand.
Quote from: patricia19 on February 02, 2025, 07:33:44 PMJenny, it's very simple, (soak, overnight); your dried pinto, navy and black beans, and dried yellow and green peas.
Patricia, - How much of each bean type?
I learned to ask this after an experience with rice many years ago.
Well, I did it again! I fell asleep on the sofa and now I have to wake up and get myself ready for bed and I have to be up before the crack of dawn to meet Cooper and get his breakfast ready! He'll be arriving a bit before 6 tomorrow morning! So this is going to be a shortie!
It was a good day today! Cathy is back from her stay in Texas and she sure does miss her new grandson. But she's loaded with pictures and that helps me. The only thing wrong with looking at all the pictures is that I want to grab him and hug him! Lots of the family are coming to PA in April to help me celebrate 90 years on this earth but I don't think they're going to make it. It's really hard to travel so far with a baby! I'm planning to return to OKLA. with daughter Cindy and I'm thinking I might work in a trip to Houston from there. I'm still thinking on that one! In every picture I see, granddaughter, Natalie looks so happy! I think this might be one of the most important things in her life so far! This and her wedding sure are on the top!
I better head for the haystack! I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow. Make the day yours! And tell us how you did that! We're still nosy!
Forgot to say we had some SNOW this evening! I think it stopped and it looks like maybe 2 inches!
Rick, I rarely follow directions, I'm more of an eye it type, but I'll look to see if I can find a similar bag size. 20 ounces or one pound four ounces.
Amy might have a better idea of ingredient sizing.
The bottom portion is a link to a bean conversion calcutator;
https://earthtoveg.com/calc/beans/
Or:
1 can of beans, drained = 1½ cups cooked beans = 1/2 cup of dried beans
1 lb of dried beans = 2.5 to 3 lbs of cooked beans
1 lb of dried beans = 6 cups of cooked beans
1 15oz can of beans weighs roughly 10oz once drained of excess liquid
Most of my bagged beans are either 20 or like the dried peas 32 ounces. You might use a quarter of a 32 ounce size and soak either eight hours or overnight. Either way, you will probably have leftovers for your freezer.
Here's one for different types of rice;
https://www.ricearray.org/editorial/rice-weight-changes-raw-to-cooked-conversion-guide/
So roughly a quarter of a bag of each type?
When I was in high school my dad left me a note to start dinner. Which in part had rice. I thought a cup of rice would cook up enough for three of us. That's only a third of a cup each :2funny:
Go by the included size charts for rice and beans.
One cup rice requires two cups of water. Some examples for uncooked to cooked rice equivalences:
1 cup dry rice equals 2 cups of cooked rice.
2 cups of uncooked rice equal 4 cups of cooked rice.
3 cups of uncooked equal 6 cups of cooked rice.
4 cups equal 8 cups when cooked.
100 g of dry rice is 200 g of cooked rice.
250 g of dry rice equals 500 g of cooked rice.
Good Morning Everyfriend! Cooper has arrived and so has the snow. I don't think there's more than an inch out there but they havent bee down my road with the plow or salt yet! I'm waiting for daylight to let Cooper take me for a walk and then we'll see what out there!
I have plans for today but who knows if they will get done! Sometimes they do and sometimes they dont/ Pme pf tje, os to make a batch of "Jim's Egg Thingys" to have handy for quick breakfasts. I think that one might just get done. As for the rest of my plans, we shall see!
I wish you all a great day! Make it your own in every way! And don't forget to tell us how your did that. We're very interested! (you notice I didn't say "we're nosy"!
Good morning..
Looks like we also have new snow, not sure if it will have to be dealt with or leave it. Off to Dr for Kyle later today. then home to play is sewing room.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
An inch or inch and a half here. It's above freezing so aside from a narrow path I shoveled, I hope the solar plan works.
Rick, about the same here so I just left it. I just hope the weather behaves till we get back home
Edited to add , cancelled appointment weather is misbehaving. .
Good afternoon, everyone! I am new to this site and have been posting in the Norm's Bait and Tackle and happened to see Callie mention this place. I have been with Senior Learn book club for oh so many years, and now we are down to only a few who post every now and then. PatH. suggested looking in on Norm's Bait and Tackle and I am so happy to see active posts daily.
Who can believe it is February already! I'm so excited just thinking Spring is only 44 days to go! :cheer:
Callie, I am so glad you had your son there when you passed out. My hubby learned about 10 years ago he has low sodium which causes fainting. They told him to drink Gatorade especially when he is out in the sun doing lawn work because sweating causes him to lose sodium. He has done well since learning this. I told the doctor he is a big fast-food eater and the doctor said, "Leave him alone, he needs the sodium." lol
Jane, I wish I had a dollar for every time I fall asleep on the couch and wake up to realize I need to go up to bed. I just get so warm and cozy it's easy to drift off. Now since I am new here, I have to ask about Cooper, I am understanding he is your dog and isn't with you all the time, is that correct? (Being nosey. lol) :dogrunning:
Barb, Ughh... appliances and furnace problems can be so draining on the mind and pocketbook. How sweet of your son to bring you a cake. I hope Sally is feeling better very soon. It seems everyone I talk to has had something. Not hearing Covid much, but viruses such as influenza A, and norovirus. I am finally over mine which lasted a full 6 days and now I just need to get my strength back.
Today is bill paying day so I best get to doing it. I do love how I am able to do it online now so that takes the worry out of if the post office delivered them on time. My hubby is a retired Postal Carrier and he is just shocked how the service is nothing like when he was there. Que Sera, Sera
good late morning, it's eight degrees with dense fog out there and the snow plows were out all night, which made for a very erratic sleep. The seventh through the twelfth will be sunny, which means chilly again, but not too into the minuses. I was going to do some business today but with the fog, will leave it until tomorrow.
Meet and greets ran overlong, more grousing about the weather, Farrah's fed and presently munching on some extra, and I'm on the couch debating what if any plans for today.
I hope everyone's having a good day, or at least better than mine, but it sounds as if everyone is still suffering through winter and looking ahead to spring.
Goodness had a time trying to get into Seniors and Friends today - made two attempts and still had to wait after I finally got in to access a discussion
Well sun came out - was warmer all weekend - cold last night but it appears with the sun it will warm up again this afternoon - still problems with Thermostat - called Honeywell but did not have all the information they need so it appears I've need to track down this problem when Paul is free late this afternoon. I'm sure learning a lot about furnaces and duct work and air flow and thermostats.
Jane where bout's in Houston does your granddaughter live? North, South, East, West, a community close by like Spring or Sugar Land or Deer Park?
Patricia that sounds like a good thick pot of soup - Mom did a lot of split pea soups using a ham bone - I tend to go with chicken and veggies more than anything - maybe I'll add rice or pasta.
Can't be polite but I just hate these PBS sitcom series that take place in the 50s and early 60s showing women's plight - brrrr and grrrr - lived through it as all of you have and hate those memories. Another one started last night - again a young women in theater with the usual humiliations with guys only seeing her as a creature of sex. Seeing this I'm in awe how Mary Tylor Moore pulled off her show although, it started in '70 and so by then the worst was over. We still could not open our own Bank account for another couple of years. I remember how my son could have a bank account and I couldn't grrr. Worst was in the early 70s washing machine broke and husband said go buy a new one - it is not worth fixing - and they would not sell it to me without a husband, uncle, father, or older brother - even calling for verification was not good enough saying it could be anyone - It was considered a big ticket item - I was furious and humiliated and of course that weekend went to another store to buy one and yes, with husband.
Well being so antsy watching and getting my ire up I ended up leaving my comfy spot and going to the kindle on my computer and cleared out some books I know I will never read - they seem to have been mostly freebee books that are available each month to Prime members and mostly a book in a mystery series or about something I really have no interest in. Got rid of 30 books that I know I will never read. What I really need to purge are my many needlework and knitting books - first need to look and see if they have any real value and if so attempt to sell them on Amazon - the rest either give them away or maybe box them up and see if I can sell them at a second hand books store that buys books. I'll only get about 25 cents each but hay that can add up.
Haha looks like I have spring clear/ning stirring - soon be time to see a few crocus peaking out at the world...

Ciaobella, - Seniors And Friends was set up sort of like a community. So there's many different discussions - all open for use. Finance, medical, humor, Soda Shop, which you've obviously found, --- etc. Post anywhere that interests you.
We also have dwindled in recent years, and are happy when someone new drops in.
I'm sure Jane will be along to fill you in on Cooper
Ciaobella - Here's a link to Norms Bait & tackle Norms B&T (https://www.seniorsandfriends.org/town-talk/norms-bait-and-tackle/msg259090/?topicseen#new)
Well I'm ready to hit the haystack but I'm going to be good and answer some questions first. I got a lot done today and I've worn myself out. But breakfast is ready for tomorrow. I have a collection of "Jim's Egg Thingys" ready to eat and I'm looking forward to breakfast in the morning. I also made some potatoes to go with the rest of the fish filets and I have two dinners frozen and one ready to eat tomorrow.
CLAOBELLA, Cooper is my granddaughter's doggie. She took a job at the hospital about 3 months after I lost the second of my two Scottish Terriers and I was still trying to make up my mind if I was too old to get another one when I heard her tell someone that she didn't know what she'd do about Cooper because she couldn't go home for lunch. She only gets a half hour. I quickly volunteered to have her drop him off on her way to work and then pick him up on her way home. So 5 days a week I have a doggie! It's been working out great! She's in her third year working at the hospital!
BARB STAUBREY, I have an address for my granddaughter but I'm not sure where it is. Her address is Houston. They just bought a house and moved there about 2 months before she gave birth to my 5th great grandchild....a boy named Isaac. My SIL is a minister at a church in Houston and I'm sorry, the name of the church escapes me but when it's his turn to give the sermon, I can watch him and listen. Natalie in a hospital.
Now I have to close my eyes. If I don't, they'll just slam shut and I won't be able to find my way to bed. Good night Everyfriend. Sleep peacefully and wake refreshed!
Oh my missed your post Ciaobella - did not scroll back far enough - I've about all my bills paid automatically - would not have done that years ago but now it is easy and the cost is what it is - so far it is working...
As to furnace costs - sheesh - being totally dependent on them is not going down easily - for years I felt I could trust but for the last few years I'm seeing making as much money as possible seems to be how services function grrr... of course it does not help that I don't know this house like the back of my hand as I did my Austin house that we had contracted to build and I knew every addition and fix over the years.
Jane my sister, a couple of years ago ran into not being allowed to adopt a dog from the humane society because of her age - most dog owners that I know usually have instructions and someone available to take care of the dog if something happens - I guess many do not think that far in advance but having a dog is such a comfort to those who live alone - I'm glad you have Cooper.
As to my question about where in Houston it is because - Houston is huge - larger than the states of Rhode Island, or Delaware, Connecticut, New Jersey, New Hampshire, or Vermont and a bit smaller than Massachusetts. Houston is also bigger than the major cities of Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, New York, Phoenix and San Diego. At spots crossing Houston, I-10, a major artery has 12 lanes. I'm just north of Houston in Magnolia but not by much since we are dealing with growth that like a creeping giant is gobbling us up.
OH how I know the closing of eyes - last night dozed off right here sitting in my chair at the computer - when I came to I closed off the lights and fell into my bed clothes and all... - one more email and then I'm off as well... goodnight...sleep well...
Good morning..
Seems I cannot ignore the snow this morning. Everything is ready to go except me.When the snow is done and Mr SB gassed up again I am going to go sew.
Yesterday I made our supper early so that when we came home from the Dr it was an easy fix.....chicken,pasta, onion, celery, garlic, cauliflower, mushroom soup, sour cream and cheese sauce with a Ritz cracker topping. We have leftovers for tonight!
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Jane, how nice of you to doggie sit 5 days a week for Cooper. You must look forward to having him, yet not the full responsibility of having a dog of your own. We have a 3 yr. old Australian Silky Terrier named Brinkley. (Named after the dog in one of my favorite movies You've Got Mail) After losing our 16 yr. old Shitsu I was not sure if I wanted to have another dog, but my hubby would not hear of it. He searched the internet daily looking and by chance my granddaughter's college friend's mother was looking to sell the two puppies of a litter and gave us a great price for Brinkley. He is a barker but has become my shadow. I am glad my hubby insisted on getting another puppy.
Rammel, thank you for the info. I loved Senior Learn when we read books and discussed them together, but it seems that is a thing of the past. I do enjoy this format where you can drop in and share whatever topic you care to.
Amy, your dinner sounds yummy, and don't you love it when you have enough for the next day's dinner. We do that a lot. I have to watch my sodium intake 2100 mg a day, so eating out has diminished greatly for me in 2025. I am happy to eat leftovers and tell hubby to go get himself fast food which he loves, if we don't feel like cooking.
Barb, I hope you get that furnace working correctly. Gosh does anyone "Spring clean" anymore besides us baby boomers? I'm actually getting the urge to begin one room at a time.
I'm counting down til Spring!! :cheer:

Well my daughter is making a quick visit from NC arriving on Thursday and leaving next Tuesday - she realized she had a short space of time between her commitments and found airline tickets at a low price and so voila...
Spring is not as far away for us however, like y'all I'm ready... We could get another cold front in February - some of the worst in recent years have taken place mid-February but so far nothing suggesting that is on the horizon - but for sure by first week in March if not sooner trees will be blooming and grass will be green
Well tons to do so I'm off - hope y'alls Day is the best...
The dance is done and I fed him more gas ready for the next one.Filled two gas cans to have on hand , we use high test in snowblower and the lawnmower so it was go amiss.
Ciaobella, it can also clean out the fridge too!! Leftovers always taste better the next day..
Only a wee bit of sewing done but two loads of laundry are done and I grabbed a nap too!!
Better go check on mail..
Good morning...
-21F here, tad chilly but no new snow to deal with..
Packaging up meals for the freezer today and hope to sew!
Taking a lazy day as tomorrow there is a 94% chance of snow.
Jane, where are you?
Patricia, you too!!
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Amy, - Nice and warm here at +20°, but overcast. It's all relative :-)
Good Morning Everyfriend! My computer is acting up and has something on the screen that won't go away. Also it won't let me bring up another screen. I've been trying but I think I need help. Maybe Cathy will stop by today!
I wish you all a good day. I'll be back when I can. I hope this goes!!
Good morning, Amy, Jane and Rick; eight forty-four am, ten degrees and cloudy presently. I spent sometime yesterday paying bills and getting groceries, and today I have an Amazon package due and a scheduled morning haircut so another busy day.
I might be able to drop in later to see if anyone else has or had anything to say.
Good Evening Everyfriend! Cathy got rid of the blockage on my screen and I think I might be back in business. It's been a busy day! I got a lot done around here and Cooper and I had 3 walks before Frankie got here to pick him up. She had a dr. appt. right after work so she was a bit later than I thought she was going to be. We sneaked in a third quick walk and he had his supper here before she picked him up.
We're supposed to have BAD weather tomorrow....icy roads and lots of it! Frankie is supposed to work but if the roads are really bad, she might be a bit late!
I started to get stuff out to make a casserole tomorrow and it turned into a dinner in the crock pot. It's starting out with a venison roast and tomato sauce and green beans and carrots. Some other stuff might be added. We shall see.
Now I'm going to finish up the house stuff and hit the hay. Even if Frankie is late, I'll be up at my usual 5 a.m. I just can't seem to sleep in even if Cooper isn't coming and I don't have any other appointments. Some things just don't seem to wear off! I wish you all a good night's sleep and a happy tomorrow. Whatever you do with your day, come by and tell us about it. We're very interested....or is that word "nosy"?
Good morning.
So far no new snow. According to the news last night we are to get snow and freezing rain...no thank you.
Work around home and I have to also make mustard but that won't take long.
Jane, talked with David , he was in PA and transports were ordered off the roads because of freezing rain. Hope you didn't get freezing rain or your walk could be in the back yard with Cooper.
Enjoy your day and stay safe..
AMY, we DID get the freezing rain and I'm afraid our walk will be in the yard. Cooper doesn't like that as much as going down the road but so far, I haven't heard any road-work trucks out there. When I finish here, we're going to go out and check it out!
Yesterday, I ordered some refills of my eye drops at the local drug store and she informed that it would not be delivered until Friday because they would probably not be open today!
I'm off to check the road! Cooper has asked me twice now so I think he has to go! Have a good day Everyfriend!
We got the snow and freezing rain. Not much, but enough to be a problem. Can't remove it from my ramp and walk - and no help frpom old Sol today.
I spoke too soon.....we now have the snow with the freezing rain around noon...let's hope not. School busses have been canceled .
Rick, do you have any salt or even kitty litter will make walking safer?
Jane, stay safe! Careful walking out there...
Quote from: Amy on February 06, 2025, 09:22:38 AMRick, do you have any salt or even kitty litter will make walking safer?
I had some Kitty Litter and have used it in the past. Have also used "Oil Dry". However, I can't find the bag. I didn't think I used it up, so will have to go on a home search - for the missing "Oil Dry". Thanks for that reminder. I'll do it now.
Be careful everyone --- It's slippery out there.
Well, they salted our road and Cooper and I took a productive walk down to the end of it and back to the house. Now if I could just find my yard stick or my tape measure! I think they both got up and walked out on me!
I have soup cooking in the crock pot for supper and whatever meals it stretches to cover! It's making me hungry but I'm going to wait and have it for supper!
I wish you all a great day! I hope most of you have better weather than I do!
Good late morning, 18 degrees, cloudy with snow changing to freezing rain this afternoon and evening, so I guess this is a Continent or at least North America, pattern.
Meet and greets went well, everyone is on a steady diet of hot lemon water and nasal drops, other than me. Farrah's fed and gone off to nap on my laundry sorted piles, and I need to start my coffee. We had an internet outage due to high winds overnight, and I was first on the phone with them and meet and greets so, coffee unfortunately, went by the wayside.
I recently learned that a local health center will be coming this week to give those who want or need them, all their immunizations. I wish I'd known that earlier, as I had gone downtown to receive all four of mine. I just checked and that was back in September except for the Norovirus which I need to find the schedule. It seems there's always something that I'm behind on.
I received my Amazon order and my haircut yesterday, and today is laundry and waiting on a food delivery for a friend. I have another Amazon delivery due on Saturday. The one who kept leaving apples by my door, one time 48, has begun using another for her deliveries. I think out of the three parties, I'll be the happiest.
I just called the building office to double-check, and they will be arriving next month for the immunizations, the day as yet to be confirmed.
Well, another day is gone! A lot got done today but if you were to ask me what the only things I could come up with are a crock pot of soup (yummy) and 2 walks with Cooper. Well, If you include the one around the yard (inside and outside of the fence) you could say there were 3 walks. It was so icy in the morning that I didn't want to take a chance on the street until the road truck went around!
Now I'm ready to hit the sack. I don't have to be up to meet Cooper tomorrow because Frankie is off work but she did say that she might be over in the afternoon to give him a bath and then leave him while she runs to the store. I have to be thinking if there's anything I NEED from the store and she'll pick it up for me while she's there.
Time to say Good Night Everyfriend! Sleep peacefully and wake refreshed! Have a good day tomorrow!
Road work nearby cut the cable and we had no wifi most of the day... which for me means no internet, no TV, no phones - and such is modern life -
Still high humidity accompanied with high heat - cold blast next week.
Kathamarie arrived just after nine and thought she would take a nap this afternoon but she is still sleeping almost 5 hours later - I think I will just let her sleep - she had to be at the airport this morning by 4: and then once here it is just shy of an hour to drive from the airport - Paul picked her up but had to keep going and then we were on her cell phone with the inane system they have for fielding problems and only after the tech was finally arranged for and he arrived did we learn the cable was cut and everyone was without wifi in the area - all rather exhausting - sleep may be the best thing...
Good morning..
Another chilly day with a tamp of +12° ,windy and there is snow to dance wih.
Not much else will happen here other than meals and the last two borders on a quilt.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning! It's cold here too but thank goodness, it's not as cold as Northern Ontario! I'm wishing fervently for SPRING!
Today is laundry day! I changed the bed so I have a load of bedding to do and there is already a load in there with my long undies in it! No Cooper today unless she comes by to give him a bath this afternoon. If that happens, she will be leaving him here and making a trip to WM. I have to think what I need her to pick up for me. I have one idea. I ran the dishwasher yesterday and I used my last block of soap for the DW.
Now I have to go fill out some applications and make sure they get where they have to be on time. I'm not good at paper work any more! I do try but...... Now I'm off to see where I put the paper work and see what else needs doing! I wish you all a great day! Make it your own in every way! And don't forget to share how you did that with us! We might want to try your way!
Good late morning, 13 degrees and cloudy at 10:05.
Meet and greets are done, Farrah's fed and here I am, ready to see what the Internet's been up to.
Barb, I would have been very upset with that company, as it seems they weren't very concerned about keeping their customers or their tech up-to-date. My phone is not connected to my laptop and the company sends a message if there are computer issues.
The plain we live on is surrounded by four mountain ranges, the highest outside of Everest, so we do occasionally have outages due to that, but it is more often computer error than company error. Plus, we have more than one Internet company, so that might help.
Amy, our weather, Saturday through Tuesday will be in the minus at night but so far no sign of that icy rain nor frozen sleet over the weekend. And, no real difference for the remainder of the month.
Normally, January and February are the Interior's coldest, but that hasn't been the case this year. Also, March, due to more humidity and warmer temperatures, is our snowiest month, but that probably won't be the case this year.
Is that the quilt you sent photos of, or another? Let me know which border idea you decided on.
Jane, I'd probably do laundry more often if I didn't have to make myself presentable and cart stuff down one hallway and up another. I miss having an in-house washer and dryer. I did do three loads yesterday and have my couch cover and one very small load of items I'm planning on donating. That's today's plan.
Henry, one of our meet and greets, said women wouldn't have to complain if they didn't have so many clothes. That certainly started a firestorm, but he does have a point.
I'll have to check in with my sister to see how Flynn is doing. He gained some weight at the rescue, but was still 20 pounds underweight when she got him at seven months old on January 4th. For a growing dog at his age, she should be feeding him two cups daily. Instead, it's four cups of food plus 2 eggs and a banana daily.
She had visited him several times at the shelter, so he knew her scent. He's a black labradoodle.
[/b]Well, I'm off to the haystack pretty soon. Cooper will be coming a bit before 6 a.m. tomorrow and I have to be up and attem and ready for him.
PATRICIA, you are one busy lady! I don't see how yo do everything you do every day! I had a busy day today and I'm beat right down to my toenails. You never even sound tired! How do you manage!
We're supposed to get some snow tomorrow afternoon and it's supposed to followed by sleet. The roads are going to be terrible. I'm sure glad it's not going to start until after Frankie is done working and has time to make it home after picking up Cooper!
I'm getting ready to hit the haystack. I wore myself out today. I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a great day tomorrow! Come back and share your doings with us! We like the company!
Jane, I don't think I'm that busy. Compared to you and Amy, I'd come in a distant third, if not later.
Good morning...
We are starting off at 5° this morning, looks as though we got a bit of snow during the night. Don't think it is enough for a dance though.
Laundry day and catching up on things that got left in the dust yesterday........hmm yes.......need to dust. Have folks stopping in for a visit.
Jane, please don't send the snow here. We are thankful that we didn't get the freezing rain in this area.
Patricia, the quilt top is done, even the binding made!! I will try and get photo of it on the clothesline if the snow isn't too deep. Maybe I can fold it and you will see part of the quilt.
Rick, did you find your "Oil Dry"? You may want to invest in a pair of these.
tiny.cc/ex99001
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Did it again! Forgot to mark the changeover when I read the first day's posts. Didn't have anything to contribute that day. So I had to catch up on the posts this morning.
The day has brightened but it is solid cloudy and is now 28o here at 8AM. This evening and most the night will be snow, I think. Weatherman had predicted a mix, but not if the temps stay in the mid-twenties overnight. In fact, it looks like it not get above freezing all day.
UPS brought me my new vacuum late yesterday afternoon, so you know what I will be doing today. The stick vacuum I bought when I moved into the apartment gave out early in the week. The battery wouldn't stay charged and then the suction stopped too. I expected it to last a little longer than just shy of a year. My new one is a newer model of the one I had at the house, which broke just before the move. It worked well for years before the plastic bit which held the hose in place broke. The only issue I had with the old vacuum is that I had trouble guiding the swivel bit where I wanted it; it had a mind of its own as to swiveling when I didn't want it to. Otherwise it was a great vacuum. The new one is a corded vacuum, so I don't have to worry about batteries, and the container for the sweepings is full sized; I really got to despising the tiny bin on the stick vacuum.
Good morning, minus 12 at 8:04. Nothing new to report here other than my Amazon package is due today.
Meet and greets, over and done, Farrah fed, and I'm sitting with my first cup of coffee, hoping something turns up on the Internet.
Well we had our adventure yesterday evening - my vehicle had to be registered and therefore needed an inspection completed in order to register it - Paul took it over and they could not test it because he had rigged it up with an electric connection to assure the battery would not die and the car had not run on its own long enough for them to complete the testing - so they gave Paul paperwork showing the car had to be driven before they could continue the inspection.
And yep, you guessed it - we were on our way to Whole Foods and police lights flashing behind us - trying to find an area to pull over with his lights flashing the whole time was a trick and then not being used to being pulled over nerves took hold of Kathamarie and not only shaky but nervous laughter - and then after checking we were not some robbers or whatever they look up to verify - back because I finally found the papers including insurance papers - he had to make a notification but no ticket however, he did say another stop and we would get a ticket and then my daughter askes if that was possible before we got to Whole Foods and he says, also laughing, 'no telling' - relaying all this to Paul and he says, well if it happens again just cry.... oh oh oh life used to be so much easier before they decided to make us all safe...
Today will be the last of our really warm days - sometime tomorrow another norther comes barreling in and next week will be cold and colder each day through Thursday - not as cold as the week with the vortex. This fits - typical there is a serious norther mid February.
So nice to have someone chatting away - and together we are solving life's problems including the nation's problems :coolsmiley:
Tonight Kathamarie is fixing us Salmon with Asparigus - what a treat...
This is going to be a quickie because I've already fallen asleep twice trying to watch some TV. Frankie didn't come by after work to pick up Cooper today so he's here overnight. It's snowing here and we are supposed to have 6 to 8 inches overnight! Already you can't see any ground or road if you look out the windows!
I sure hope the road crews are on the job when it stops and that the roads get cleared early tomorrow. But I live on a dead end and the guy across the street who always plows my driveway, has a broken ankle. Daughter Cathy says her brother has said that he'll be over to do my driveway. Sunday is his only day off because he runs a small business in town that sells and services household appliances. I hate it when I have to take up his day off. But on good thing about it is that my granddaughter who is a senior in high school, likes to be with him and she usually helps him do stuff like this.
I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow. Make the day your own in every way....even if you have to shovel snow!
Good morning.
Starting off at 11°F and there is something in the air. Jesse came in and his back was wet....not sure if light snow or rain drizzle.
A day of rest here and hope no snow!
Did get into the sewin room yesterday but just maybe today will be the day.
MarGal, we were talking about appliances yesterday with a fellow. He said their washer was only 7 yrs old and they had to replace it! Mine dies at 27 years old and the dryer is still going at 30 years old. We did get a new washer but oh for my old one back!! Hope your new vacuum works out well for you.
Jane, on the up side you get to see two of your favourite people today..
Better get at the day.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Well, thank goodness we didn't get as much snow as they predicted. I'd say we might have 3 inches out there. Cooper and I took a short walk this morning and the snow plow truck passed us 4 times on the road. The roads are now clear but my driveway needs work. If I were to go out and shovel I could probably doe a 5 or 6 foot square before I had to quit!
I loved it when my neighbor came over with the plow and did it but he's not even doing his own now with his broken ankle!
My casserole last night was very good. I might have eaten more if I hadn't had a begger at my feet. He stays down when I order him to but he's not quiet! And I'm not a fast eater any more since I had the surgery on my jaw. Oh well, that's life. He won't be here and I'll watch Perry Mason while I fill my tummy!
I wish you all a great day! Make it your own in every way! And stop by and tell us how you did that. We're very interested (or should I say "we're very NOSY?" You think what you like. I don't mind!
We got about 4 1/2 - 5 inches of that white stuff. Cleared the ramp off my porch, but will wait for my "hired help" to do the rest. Can't do that stuff any more. Expensive, but I'm still alive.
Went out this morning about 10am and shoveled off the sidewalk and porch. The ice had melted enough to just slide it aside. The car is another matter. The icy-snow was still hanging tight, enough that my brush wasn't going to budge it. I might go out and clear any that has still not melted, but then again, we won't see anything else until Tuesday and tomorrow is going up to 40o. It is 38o now and the sun is in and out of the clouds. Things are melting quite nicely.
My vacuum is unpacked. I noticed that the bit that broke on my old vacuum is a separate piece. I don't remember it being a separate piece on the old one.
I guess it will be a while yet before I see any of the summer visitors to the field behind the apartment, but that isn't stopping me from being on the watch now. Saw some signs of small hole digging activity on the way to the trash bins yesterday, so someone is awake and doing some early grub hunting. Saw some squirrels earlier last week, but none since.
Minus sixteen and clear this morning at 9:06 and our high will plus 8. The rest of February will ping back and forth between minuses and positives until March.
Meet and greets finished, Farrah fed and coffee in hand, I'm back to see what S&F and the Internet's been up to.
Amy, we have five floors with a washer and dryer on each floor, covered in our rent. The machines are always in need of repair, with most being the dryers not heating properly, and your heavier clothes or towels come out damp. We're positive that these are never new, they just re-circulate.
Jane, I live on the edge of the original business district, and the snow plows operate at night and the whistles, beeps, and other sounds often keep me awake until they've moved on to the newer business districts. I don't know when they do the various neighborhoods, but its always at night.
A perk of living here is that maintenance does all the inside and outside public areas, it's a locked, key fob only building and if you have a television, you can watch the camera sweeps, only of the public areas, although I think that would be boring but some watch always. Another is that the public health centers will send someone to do your shots if you sign up for one of their rounds. I wish I had known about that before I went downtown for mine!
Another perk besides the indoor, walled trash drops, dog run and the smokers' area, at the far end of the parking lot, are the summer garden plots if you sign up for one early. If your balcony faces opposite, you can have 24/7 summer daylight and a bounty of flowers and vegetables. If you're on my side, facing north, not so much.
Rick, any snow we get which is usually no real accumulation, soon turns to ice with this year's new addition of freezing rain. Most arctic areas are dry, with little humidity for snow. We're always hoping for clouds in the winter to hold in the heat while the Southeast, on the other side of the mountains, always has snow and always seems to have avalanches because they're on a narrow strip between mountains and the sea.
MG, I noticed that those stick vacuums only last three years at best. So, when I purchased my rug shampooer, I bit the bullet and purchased a full sized hoover vacuum too. Then last year, I got tired of lugging that big vacuum around, so I bought another stick for the quick jobs. The Hoover does a better job, it's just so heavy to lug around for a small pickup.
We won't see any of our wildlife until April.
Has anyone heard from Sandy?
Cold front coming in this evening - already the temp has dropped 25 degrees and will drop another 20 to maybe 25 degrees over the next two days but then Friday is will start to reverse itself ---
Kathamarie still visiting and the talking goes on and on so that we attempted to watch a movie on TV and only gave it half our attention and no TV tonight - tonight eating late since we ate a late lunch - we've settled on soup and salad.
Patricia you're talking about the sound of a snow plow where finally we have tracked down what sounded like someone mowing their lawn at 5:30 in the morning - looks like the Generator tests itself and turns on for about 10 minutes making all that racket and so now my son knows to reset the timing - problem we loose electricity most often for a minute or less in the middle of the night and immediately after the generator does it's test again - not sure the fix but anything so I don't wake up and then can't get back to sleep so I'm attempting to function on 4 or 5 hours sleep - at least now that we know what is happening I'm not complaining to myself that a neighbor is being un-thoughtful.
Sleep tight and stay warm...
Good morning..
Gosh it is cold temp is 2° at the moment but on the bright side it is not snowing! We are off to the city to pick up more quilts then meet up with Bri to do an exchange of goodies. Neighbours are looking after Jesse for us.
We are to get a lot of snow this week , and it wouldn't hurt my feeling if it didn't come this way. Must admit we have been lucky, other areas to the south of us and to the west have got the brunt of the snow. On day closer to Spring..
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
I am debating about exercising the car today and gassing it up. Temp is only going to around 36o. It is 30o at the moment. The icy mess from the weekend is melted off the road and car, but more is to come Tuesday and Wednesday.
The vacuum is together, but I haven't tested it out yet. I noticed a few minor design differences, and it seems less heavy than the one I had before (maybe my imagination, though). Hopefully, the swivel feature will not have a mind of its own like the old one did. Fortunately, I don't have near as much to vacuum now.
The cats, especially Shan, have apparently gone into their pre-spring active mode. Shan has decided that he doesn't want to scratch on any of his many scratch pads and posts. Instead, he has been going after my furniture. He has also jumped Oscar a couple of times. Mind you he is close to 20 pounds while Oscar is hovering around 11 pounds. I've been trying out some weight gain liquid on Oscar, and stirring in a little extra water to his gravy style cat food. It seems to be working a little bit. He doesn't feel quite so bony now and has been eating most or all of his food for the past week. Hopefully this all, at the least, keeps him from losing any more weight.
Good Morning Everyfriend! I didn't check out on here last night. Sorry about that! I fell asleep on the sofa in front of the TV and when I woke up, I just turned everything off and hit the haystack. No Cooper today so I didn't even have to set the alarm last night.
The sun is up but it's sort of hanging out behind the clouds. So far, it's 28 degrees heading for a high of 34. I already took a walk so I could get my footsteps on the chart on my phone and I'm a little over half way there. I guess I'll try another walk later today. So far, that's the only thing I have planned so far!
Dinner was even better last night without a beggar at my knee! And today will be another day without a beggar!
AMY, I wish you a safe trip today and no bad weather!
I wish Everyfriend a great day! Make it your own in every way! And don't forget to tell us how you did that! We all need help!
Good mid-morning, nothing scheduled for today, no packages, deliveries, groceries or laundry to deal with, a rare occasion, that I don't need to do something, somewhere or somehow.
Meet and greets, finished, morning routine done, Farrah fed, and here I sit, coffee in hand to see what S&F and the internet are up to.
Amy, I emailed Sandy, but haven't heard back so far. I don't believe I've ever seen that much snow; except perhaps in October 2021, when they called in the more experienced southeast crews. Now we have snow graders, that look like metal outrigger canoes, and dump trucks.
We have a sunny minus 13 and will only get to plus 8 for a high, but temps are due to began rising with clouds on Friday.
Jane, I used to walk any and everywhere before falling on black ice in 2011 put a stop to that. Now I use a trekking pole to get along outdoors in the winter.
MG, Farrah used to be 15 pounds for sometime, even with the vet putting her on a diet to get her back to a better weight of ten to twelve pounds for her size. After a year of fussing, diet foods, and no treats, the scale never moved, and we all gave in.
Then a year ago, I noticed she seemed lighter, weighed her, and she was ten pounds at twelve years. She's also become finicky about her food and no longer jumps more than on the couch or bed. I've thought about donating her cat trees but haven't made a decision yet.
Hello Everyfriend! I forgot one thing that was scheduled for today. I had an appt. with the dr. at 1:30. Cathy got here to pick me up in plenty of time for me to get ready to go so I made it. And then we sat and waited in the waiting room for about 45 minutes! I was beginning to think they for got us when they finally came out and called my name! All's well! Nothing serious to take care of!
When I got home it was time to start watching TV and I did that without falling asleep. Amazing! But I'm heading for the haystack pretty soon because Cooper arrives a bit before 6 a.m. tomorrow.
I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a great day tomorrow. Make it your own in every way! Do whatever you darn well please!
Patricia, in addition to the gravy style food meals in a pouch (Wellness brand at the moment), Ive been adding a little of Miracle Vet's Weight Gain liquid which is fish oil with a bunch of vitamins, etc. in it. For a cat his size, it says 1 teaspoon a day. I give him anywhere from on half to on teaspoon. I don't see that he is gaining much, but he doesn't feel so bony now and also seems a little more alert when he isn't snoozing.
I really must start using a humidifier. I bought a little one for the bedroom, but haven't used it yet. I will probably have to buy a bigger one for the living area if I can figure out where to put it where it will be useful and not in the way. My dry eye problem is the worst it has ever been, probably because the apartment is a central air system. The house was steam heat, and I had a big humidifier that handled the downstairs areas just fine.
Still debating on getting a new, twin-sized, bed and a new car this year. It is more like when, not if.
It is currently 26o with some light rain/snow mix for a few hours this evening. Tomorrow most of the day will be more of the same.
Good morning..
No dancing today.
Our day went well yesterday, roads were good and we whistled about and got everything done. Met with Bri for lunch and then came home. Domestic duties today and I need a pot of soup made.
Jane, thank you, we did have a great day.
MG, have you tried sardines in oil for him?
Patricia, I wish they sold bottles of energy as going to the city tires me out!
Better get my day started.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend! Daylight is arriving here and it's time to take Cooper for his morning walk! So this is a shorty! I'll try to be back in a bit later with some news that will either interest your or it won't. I wish you all a great day!
Amy, yes, and he liked them up until within the last month when he decided he isn't interested any more. I actually don't blame him because I bought several cans of those cheap Chicken of the Sea in water. I am not a fan of Chicken of the Sea sardines either. A while back, when there were sales of some of the other brands, I bought about four different brands. I can tell you he did not care for the Brunswick which, are actually baby herring. They were a little larger than the usual size sardines, but I they are part of the same general fish order, Clupeiformes. Apparently, they're now canning all kinds of baby fish from that order and calling them sardines. I remember when sardines tended to be fished only in the Mediterranean. Meanwhile, My grocery stopped selling my favorite, Crown Prince, long ago but I just looked and found them offered by Walmart, Amazon, Target and Vitacost, among others sell them. Going to have to see about that soon. Thanks for the question, Amy.

Good late morning, My day so far has been both busy and humbling.
I went out to pay bills and pick up a few items as my store's monthly coupons had arrived and wouldn't you know it, I had an opening in my day's schedule. I took a cab and I thanked the driver for something, and he replied, that I was an elder and should be respected.
Then, after paying at the register, I noticed the clerk had handed back three of my five coupons.
Upon arriving at customer service to fix the issue, I had a number of mishaps, not being able to get my card out of the slot, trouble finding the coupon items in my bags, and then needing to collect the change I spilled out from my wallet on the counter, while trying to retrieve the card from its slot. By this time, the customer service lady was "hun-ing" me every time we spoke.
I may have to change stores... :-[ ::)
MG, she eats both in the morning and smaller amounts during the day. It takes a week to finish a 5.5 ounce can. That is partially because she's become finicky over what she eats, and it tends to change a lot. She has a senior dry food and fresh water daily. I may look up the wellness brand or Amy's sardines.
I also have a dry eye issue in the winter but use distilled water in a tabletop humidifier. It is extremely dry here in the winter, but I don't notice a problem in the summer.
Amy, evidently, I too, need that elusive bottled energy, but, also that elusive fountain of youth! I seem to age each time I leave home and return youthful once I'm home behind my door
"King Oscar" brand of Sardines are still good. In oil or water. Small 4oz tin.
I feel just as you do, Patricia. I wrote a similar complaint in Bait and Tackle. I get very tired of being patronized by younger people who call me honey, sweetie, and darlin' and VERY upset at being forgotten, overlooked and dismissed by people I have thought were my friends. I am 96 but I am still alive and not senile yet. I still have feelings that can be hurt and I still have the right to express those feelings. 😠
Phyllis, It's odd to feel the same, somehow frozen in middle age, albeit, at the older side of middle age; yet noticing a seeming sudden change in behavior of those around me.
MG, I am sure you have tried just about eveything. I went through this with Babe ,our Border Collie. I even gave her sardines which she did eat, hamburg t bone steak, scrambled eggs chicken breast, just about everything I could think of.
Phyllis and Patricia, understand what you both are saying. We had a man stop to look at the trugs and one thing lead to another on age . He looked at me and said I didn't think you were a DECADE older than me! If he had of said 10 years it wouldn't have sounded so bad. Yes hun , deary, sweetie are a few that annoy me from strangers.
Enjoy your evening
I'm just going to say "Good Night, Everyfriend!" I wish you the best night possible and a great day tomorrow. I don't have cats to feed so I can't think of anything to say about cat food!
We're supposed to get more snow starting late afternoon tomorrow. I have a dr. appt at 1:30 so hopefully I'll be home before it starts and Cathy will be to her home before it starts!
I remember when the Soda Shoppe had real conversations - with opinions and comments about all kinds of subjects.
I like being treated as a lady - but not as a little girl! I get tired of those who treat me as if I'm senile because I have mobility issues and a severe hearing loss!
I don't take part in group activities any more because of those and I'm pretty much ignored by those who are still active in things I used to participate in - like church, Bridge groups and a couple of organizations.
Friendship is a two-way street and, if there's no traffic coming toward me - I just pull over and park!
There will never be enough e-books for me to read! I can borrow as many as 10 at one time from the metro library and put a hold on 10 more. There's no limit on how many I can put on my Wish List. The neatest thing is when a book is due (two weeks) and you don't recheck it, it just disappears! No overdue fine to pay!
Sleep well, Everyfriend, and have pleasant dreams that don't involve snow or - as we're supposed to have the next few days - freezing drizzle.
Yep, one look at anyone with a walker and the assumption is some degree of dementia - but also, for the past few years it is not easy to have a conversation regardless of age - it appears most subjects have political overtones and either walls go up or agitation is visible - laughter seems to have left the room - another is those younger than 55 have a different way of expressing themselves - not only are their thoughts quick and short but often their use of language makes me uncomfortable.
I also notice the books they choose to read with plans to discuss are so far from my interests - filled with technology being used or built by the characters with that and AI as the main focus with no reflection or analogies to characters or events from the classics much less history during or before our lifetime.
I say age 55 and thinking on it even my sister who is 6 years older than my daughter falls into choosing books that to me seem almost like Buck Rogers rather than Captain Courageous.
Back to how the elderly are treated differently - even those in early retirement treat those of us over the age of about 82 as if we are incompetent. I did work till I was 85 but realized those last couple of years I had less business and the few whom I worked with acted as if they were doing me a favor - I must say in addition, the business was no longer fun. Everything, including agents talking to each other to smooth out details, was online. No face to face and often no voice but typed messages - even closings were done with little to no contact between buyer and seller - where in the past they closed at the same time sitting round a table chatting about the neighbors or garden tips and the best grocery or dry cleaning etc. All that was gone...
Adding up all that suggests maybe some of the isolation we feel is the way of things today and we are just not used to it... must say though, the language sends spears through me and so I'm even selective what I read on facebook or any of the other sites furthering my own isolation.
A book I read really gave me some insight - Two Old Women: An Alaska Legend of Betrayal, Courage and Survival by Velma Wallis - lots of eye opening ways of handling aging that I was ah ha-ing as I read.
Good morning..
Today is a busy one and I hope to get it all done before the snow starts.Between later today and tomorrow we may get up to 16 inches.
Kyle has blood work first thing this morning ,then I hope to wash the van before I take it for an oil change, deliver a quilt.
I must say that young people we have encountered have been respectful of my husband and his walker. He doesn't walk fast and we will often tell the person behind us to go ahead....most times they will say they are in no hurry...or they will go ahead just so they can hold the doors open for us. After the thank you I also tell them they have good parents that taught them well.
I think the lack of respect has a lot to do with the young ones coming up, not all but if not taught in home they can't bring it to the outside .
My friend went to the manor to visit a friend, the treat cart, for want of a better word came by and asked them if they wanted pink or white ice cream..........my friend a war vet told the young lady that she can say vanilla or strawberry. They are seniors not senile....again respect.
Ok ,better get busy.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend! I don't really know what to say this morning. I agree with almost everything that's been said...especially how we are treated in our old age. I've been thinking back and I had 3 grandparents who lived into their 80s when late 60s was their predicted age limit. I do not remembe any of them being treated any different then they were in their younger years. My father's parents raised 7 boys and they all showed respect for both of them and they all did whatever they were asked to do by them. We lived in the same house with the other set of grandparents and while we lost my grandfather in his late 60s, my grandmother lived to welcome all my children into the world...and they LOVED her! And they did things that she suggested!
And that's life. And that's changed!!!!
I guess I better get this day started. I have an appointment with the foot dr this afternoon and my daughter asked if I'd like to stop at the Amish grocery store on the way home. It's practically next door to the drs. office. I do and we're going to stop there!
I wish you all a great day! Make it your own in every way and let us know how you did that. We might want to try it out!
I feel really at home here with you all. After George died, I am now pretty much down to my sisters and my cats - and all of you.
Amy, I know exactly what you mean about friendship. It is a delicate thing and its permanency is certainly not guaranteed. I've never had a lot of friends. Mom always thought I was shy when I was young. I always thought people just weren't interested in me or what I had to say. I called everyone friends but Dad said friends are hard to find, most of my "friends" were just acquaintances. Shades of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's "ships that pass in the night"?
Barb, I love Science Fiction, although that passion came relatively late to me. I think the most difficult one in that genre I read has to beSeveneves. Lots of technical stuff in that. I did try his Quicksilver, but oddly, it didn't interest me at the time. There are several other books of Stephenson's that I would like to try, but haven't. What I generally stay away from is modern romance and family drama. I do like the classics, though. My very favorite has to be Jane Eyre. My current reading are a SciFi and a history of India, focused on the British East India Company. My next up on the library wait list is also a History, this one about Magellan and his circumnavigation of the world.
Patricia, I read the book some years back. Really liked it.

Maybe the "young lady" didn't know the difference ???

It's about the same for me here, only it's just my son and I. No pet any more. Too old to take on another (properly).
Good Morning Everyfriend! I'm up and attem at my usual time and Cooper is coming an hour later than usual this morning. H won't be here until a bit before 7. So I'll have time to make the bed and get dressed before he comes and we won't have to wait very long for the light to take our walk.
I wish you all a great day! Make it your own in every way! And don't forget to share a piece of it with us! We miss you all when you don't stop by. I hope you are all well. I'm just waiting for Spring to show and if I had that Groundhog in sight, I bonk him on the head for putting it off!
Good snowy morning..
Went to let Jesse out and could hardly push the door open for snow!! They did say we were to get up to 2 feet in this area. Still snowing out but I am not going to wait till it is done...much easier to do some at a time. Oh to be a wallflower and sit this dance out!
Not much else will be done other than dancing with Mr Snowblower. Have a pot of meatball bean soup ready for lunch..supper.....hmm will think about that.
Rick, I don't know of a child that hasn't had strawberry or binilla.......yes binilla as saying vanilla was difficult for most. I just get annoyed when young ones talk down to seniors.
Jane, did you get snow?
MG, I just lost my sister by another mother last June. We did a lot together, going to quilt shows, inhaling fabric shops, and just having fun when we were out. We would bounce ideas off of each other on quilt patterns and fabric. I enjoy my friends in here, wish at times we were closer so I could help when needed.Envious of my son as he has met one and even hugged her!!! I wouldn't be surprised if he hugged her twice!
Better get my dancing gear on..thinking about it won't get the snow removed.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Looks liker a blahhh day here. Just over freezing, dark and rainy. Good nap weather.
Good morning, zero degrees at 9:27, and morning routines, meet and greets and coffee made, plus Farrah fed so far today. This afternoon's schedule will be boxes broken down for maintenance, refill the kitty litter, garbage taken to the wall's drop-down, and bathroom deep clean. I have a feeling I'm forgetting something, but hopefully it'll come to me.
I was surprised to find so many people feel as I do. For so long, I was secure in my place, what I considered late middle age, when I slowly realized I had unknowingly passed out of that stage and was moved further to another classification. My entire concept of self was shaken as I adjusted to this new reality. And further surprised that it wasn't just me. Ageism is real, and I want to go park, as Callie said.
I was in middle management the majority of my employment, and had/have a small group of friends that began to dwindle after Covid. There are only nine of us left and Covid and age brought many from living in the country to an easier, but not as happy city life.
Rick, we've moved back into the pluses for the remainder of the month so, I'm hoping the snow, freezing rain and ice will all melt away. Most of my days are blah, with only daily routines, reading on my Kindle or venturing into the city for groceries or paperwork. Meet and greets seem to be my daily interactions, other than my time spent drifting along on the Internet.
Amy, for me, it's the little endearments and the assumption that I'm somehow less than other folk. Hun-ing has become a verb.
Jane, I used to walk all over the place and commonly spent my off time wandering around the wildlife refuge with my camera. Then in 2011, I fell hard on some black ice and now rarely venture outside without my trekking pole.
Oh, excitement! The fog has cleared, and the sun is out between patchy clouds. aaaannnndd, it is 43o at almost 2pm.
Amy, my big thing has always been needlework knitting and crochet. My supply of yarn and embroidery floss are about the only craft thing I brought with me to the apartment. It has been a few years since I have done anything, partly because sht cats kept attacking the yarn or needles, or just plain commandeering my lap. That last is one of the reasons I switched most of my reading to e-books. Lucy was particularly adept at shoving her nose under a book and pushing up out of the way. Oscar and Shan just crowd. In fact, if I am still on the computer around 2:30, he will be in to insist I spend sofa time with him. Spoiled brats!
Oh, and forgot to relate my latest little old lady experience. Last week, one of the local boys, who always seems eager to help, made the comment that he likes to help people me. It seems his grandmother instilled a kind of work/help ethic in the boy. Certainly not to be discouraged.
MG, perhaps more for the "helped?"
This might surprise a few of you.
Alaska volcano earthquakes spark '50-50 chance' of eruption as state on high alert
The Alaska Volcano Observatory has warned that Mount Spurr may erupt in the near future after experiencing unusually high seismic activity.
10:10 ET, Wed, Feb 12, 2025 | UPDATED: 10:57 ET, Wed, Feb 12, 2025
Alaska is part of the earth's ring of fire.
"The Ring of Fire is a horseshoe-shaped zone around the Pacific Ocean known for its high levels of seismic activity, including earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. It contains about 750 to 915 active or dormant volcanoes and is responsible for approximately 90% of the world's earthquakes."
Very late today but I have been busy sorting tax documents and trying to force myself to do taxes. Oh my, how I hate that job!
All is well otherwise and even the rain has finally stopped.
Take care, All.
Hello Everyfriend! Today was a busy day. I have to gather some id papers to get a new card made and I had them all except one that was always nearby. I simply could not find it so Cathy came over and started to look for it too and right after she applied for a new one, she picked it up out of a box on my desk. I cannot believe it was there. I even looked there at least 3 times. but it was in an envelope and I never put it in an envelope before. So she cancelled the order and got all the papers together!
AMY, thank you for posting my picture for me.
Everyone, she posted a very recent picture of my newest Great Grandson Isaac over in photos. Take a look at him! He's growing up so fast! He's three months old this week!
Also Amy! That nice young guy that's your son and drives a truck all over the country, drove through her once and stopped and we met and YEP, we had a COUPLE of hugs! That was a very special day!
Now I have to get to bed or I'll end up sitting here when Cooper shows up tomorrow. Good night! Sweet Dreams! Sleep peacefully and wake refreshed! I'll be back tomorrow!
Good morning..
Starting off at -3 and no new snow! Mercy that was a snack full we woke to yesterday. Thankfully the 12+ inches was light and fluffy ,easy to move. Snow was higher than the blade on neighbours truck so we both ened up using our snowblowers to clean up the snow. I had most of ours done when ,thanks to Jesse , our dog that likes to bring a stick of wood in dropped one. I found it when the snowblower picked it up and I broke a sheer pin. Of course it wouldn't be on one of the blades out front it had to be behind all the blades.a place that is a stinker to repair. Put a fire on in the garage, let it warm up with both fire and propane and fixed it. I don't know how a man with large hands would get into the small space as I had a time fixing it and my hands are small. Oh well job done but I told Kyle today we are going to the lumber yard to get large tarps to cover up the wood piles.
Jane, you caught me at the right time to do that. Isaac is so cute! Yes, I thought so!! I have the photo of you both right beside me..
Phyliss ,that is our next chore getting things ready for the tax man Still waiting on papers to come in the mail after that everything is off to the bookkeepers.
Patricia, we are to get another snack of snow tomorrow and maybe again on Sun. Once I gas up the Mr SB I should be ready to go. Missed my partner when trying to fix the shear pin as one time he could hold the flashlight so I could see to fix the pin. Than the light came on...I used my headlamp.....worked like a charm!
MG, I also like needwork and crochet but quilting has taken front row seat. My friend loved to knit and I think she could close her eyes and knit!! They had two cats Peter and Penelope that were always into mischief and she would be knitting away then yell!! One of them had chewed the yarn breaking it apart!!
Rick, did you get your nap? I didn't get a nap during the day but hit the bed around 8:30..
Better get on with the day..
Enjoy your day and stay sade
Good Morning Everyfriend!! No snow here last night but we have two days coming up with snow in the forecast. I'm truly looking forward to SPRING!And If I could find that Groundhog that predicted more winter, I'd punch him in both eyes!
It's beginning to lighten up and Cooper just came to the office door to tell me that it's time for his morning walk! I never go until it's light enough to see out there!
AMY, you sure did have a lot of "fun" with your snowblower! I sure hope it doesn't let you down again. And I'm thinking that keeping the sticks away from the doggie is a very good idea!
Well, I guess by the time I get all my winter outsice duds on, it will be light enough to go for a walk so I wish you all a great day! Make it your own in every way! And don't forget to tell us how you did that. We're very interested!
Good cold morning to you all. Not as cold as where you are, Amy, but cold enough. Right now it is 25o, but the sun is shining, so, with along with breakfast, that should perk me up enough to start my taxes.
Sue and I have been contemplating this years' bus trip offerings. We are currently contemplating a trip to the Chesapeake for a riverboat ride, with meal, along Maryland's Eastern shore. Unfortunately, it does not appear to leave much, if any, time for shoreside activities. The tour I was interested in the year before was to St. Michael's which also had a boat ride, but shorter, and with a history and conservation lecture along with a land side meal and time to visit the museum and/or shopping. I can assume that there will be some kind of narrative during the boat trip, but the agenda does not mention any. I think I will keep looking.
Quote from: Amy on February 14, 2025, 06:34:19 AMRick, did you get your nap? I didn't get a nap during the day but hit the bed around 8:30..
Naps are the No. 1 Priority here. Weather pretty much the same as the rest of you. Maybe a tad warmer.
After many gloomy days the sun is shining this morning but it is supposed to turn wet and cold again on the weekend so I must enjoy this bright day while I can.
AMY, I did many handcrafts, too. Sewing, crewel embroidery, counted crossstitch, needle point, crochet, rug hooking, knitting...which I loved...quilting, and floor loom weaving. I enjoyed all of them. Now I don't do any of them.
I even knit a wool coat for myself plus many sweaters, socks, mittens, gloves and winter hats for family and friends. ..even sweaters for our mini dachshund, Charlie Brown. I made several knitted and crocheted blankets for The Linus Project. I've even been thinking of digging out my hooks or needles and starting a new project but can't decide what that might be.
My packed full craft room has become a catchall and I hardly ever go in there now.
By the way.....
HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!
Happy Valentine's Day
Good morning, six degrees and a gusting 30 MPH wind alert. Nothing new here, but morning routines are finished and coffee's on.
Phyllis, I used to knit and hook rugs, but that was a long time ago, before my hands and arthritis got too bad.
My mother used to knit, do embroidery, crochet and hook rugs. She sewed everything, all our clothes, and even taught herself to make pairs of strong work blue jeans for dad. Both of my parents came from large Midwestern farm families and were used to always working.
She had a large wooden loom in her sewing room that dad built for her and would make quilts and used batting, I believe is the term, for stuffing. Both of my parents worked and put in a large garden plus hunting and fishing to provide for our family of five.
Alaska was a territory until 1959, and we simply didn't have a lot of the amenities that states had. The city itself wasn't established until 1903. It had been a gold camp, during the gold rush, there are still some working gold camps in the area, and before that, it was a trading post due to its proximity to five rivers.
Amy, we got a dusting, no real accumulation and no freezing rain, luckily. We don't have the humidity for snow when the skies are clear, with no clouds to hold the heat in. Weather reports say we'll stay on the positive side for the rest of the month, so we may have more snow.
MG, I've got all my tax information ready to be sent in. I'll be glad when that is over for the year. Other than that, the only thing for today and tomorrow is receiving packages for others, and I have a vegetable order due tomorrow for myself. Both the kitchen and bathroom need a good wipe down, I may get to that over the weekend, and I need to pull out the vinyl shelf liners from the fridge to wash and a donation to set up. And I'm going to stop myself now before I think of anything else!
Jane, Isaac looks very happy to be here. And three months already!
Well, it's getting on towards bedtime around here. I won't have any Cooper tomorrow because Frankie has the weekend off and she is on her way to visit her mother in Maryland. She should be arriving there in a few more minutes. I put the timer on when she texted me that she was on the way! If she doesn't text me in the next ten minutes, I'll be texting my daughter to see if she arrived and forgot to let me know!
I have to be up and attem tomorrow because my cleaning lady and her helpers will be arriving about 8:30. If I don't check in early, I'll be around after they leave. They are usually here about 2 hours or a bit more some times.
I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a great tomorrow. We're supposed to get snow starting late afternoon!
Good morning
Had a time trying to get into the site this morning..
We are in for it again up to 18 inches on top of the 12 we had the other day. I did get the wood piles covered so hope no mishaps again.
Picking up meds this morning ,then check out my dance partner to make sure he is up to the dance.
Phyllis, oh my a coat!! That is a lot of work but one of a kind and I bet it was not only beautiful but warm!!
Patricia, I am so ready for Spring. I know it also means more work but it means warmer weather too!
Rick, I can guarantee that there will be either a nap after the storm or early to bed for me. We do have lots of room to put the snow unlike others that didn't make their paths/driveway wide.
Jane, enjoy your day off...I am sure you will miss your little buddy today.
MG, it is 10° F here and the sky looks ominous. We didn't get that much snow last year so I think it is making up for it this year.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good morning anyone. Looks like this site is still a bit slow.
Snow due in a couple of hours. The day started at about 30° so that's good snow temp.
Good morning, Rick posted photos yesterday in Norm's, of the Chicago 1999 group Bash and a photo of Pat and the Bus that drove around picking everyone up.
https://www.seniorsandfriends.org/index.php?msg=259531
S&F has been slow for the past two days again. It's minus nine here with 30-35 mph wind gusts in the valley and in the passes, but it's supposed to warm back up again on Tuesday. That wind chill is worse than the actual temperatures.
It sounds as if everyone is having a snow day.
Stay safe and stay well, out there!
Not me, Patricia, but we are having a rain day with a high wind day in the forcast.
Not me either, Phyllis, but a lot of the country seems to be with that atmospheric river either flooding or snowing.
But it is snowing here, just North of NYC. Hope it's not too much.
The Group Pic in Norms B&T is by BarbStAubrey. The bus pic I found on my Hard Drive. That's the Pic we couldn't find a while back. There is another Bus Pic with everyone piled on.
Rick, it would be nice if you'd transfer these type of posts to Gatherings, so we could have them collected in one place.
I'll look into that, but first I'll have to find "Gatherings". BTW - Does anyone look there?
Found it, and the Yellow Bus Pic is already there.
Hello Everyfriend! I had my cleaning ladies here today and I had to keep out of the way and be ready to jump up and find another place to sit when they got to the room I wa in. They finished before the snow began and I decided I better get a walk in before it started. I didn't make it! I got all my duds on and a lot of the stuff that I had moved for the cleaners back in place and I headed out....into snow coming down rapidly. Till I got back from half my walk, I was freezing and wet and I havent tried to go out since.
And it's still snowing and not supposed to stop until after 8 p.m. And it must have covered the TV reciever outside because I don't have any TV.
I made a new casserole for supper with chopped up chicken, chopped up potatoes, chees and lots of spices and it's terrific! I'll be saving this recipe for sure!
Good Night! Sweet Dreams! Happy Tomorrow!
I wonder how Denver is doing after her cataract surgery.
Good snowy morning..
No let up on the snow it seemscalling for it to snow until Mon. :yikes: The dance shall begin after my tea.
Yesterday I was checking our SB out went to get the gas and noticed the neighbour our with his NEW snowblower. Gave him the thumbs up when I realized the make. We talked over the the fence I his other one gave up and he bought
almost the same as ours his is a Cub Cadet 26. He knows how much I love ours and I gave him a few pointers on using this compared to his other one. He is lucky that he can use the pull start where as I use the electric start.
MG, will send Jenny and tell her you are asking and she can fill you in on her surgery.
Jane, careful out walking, hope your area is plowed.
Better get the day started.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Kyle came over to my desk and said there was a flashing light in our driveway...looking out I saw our neighbour with his plow truck cleaning the driveway and out at the mouth of the driveway. I just have to do the sides, deck and out back to the wood and a trail for Jesse!! Got love neighbours like that.
Duds on...
Need ear muffs
Need energy....
Oh well two out of three is not bad..
Thanks, Amy. I had congenital cataracts and ended up getting the surgery when I was 45. The ophthalmologist, at the time, told me that my eyes were bad enough that he should be reporting it to the DMV. He didn't, but the threat made me not hesitate to get it done. I was absolutely amazed at the difference, not just in clearer seeing, but in the colors. One of the first things I noticed after surgery was that, before surgery, I had lost seeing much of the yellows. And, I was absolutely amazed at the number of different shades of green there are.
The snow and ice are off the roadways now, and just a thin layer on some cars and the grassy areas. The temp is at 34o and will top off at around 40o. It will be raining most of the day, so I am quite happy to see it above freezing.
The Israeli meteorological service predicts:
Next weekend - snow in Jerusalem!
Well, the snow hasn't stopped!! I am contemplating going back out and cleaning it up again. If I leave it there will be a lot to do but little bits make it easier. SB is gassed and ready again.
Bubble,, when was the last time Jerusalem had snow?? Maybe what we are getting is yours.
4 or 5 years? Maybe more, I don't remember!
Good mid-morning, everyone. It seems we haven't had any real snow since perhaps November. Each new snow we've had, ends up as ice after icy rains, a new phenomenon this winter. We're back into the positives for the rest of February, with March more of the same.
Nothing new here, and even that's not new. Morning routines and meet and greets finished, but I need to make coffee as had a late start. The guy below me has come in this week and immediately plays his radio at the highest level he can find. I've already sent in two complaint forms, but doubt management will do anything.
So, I've been in a foul mood the past few days.

Start "tapping" on your floor with your trekking stick when the radio reminds you. Practice your trekking :coolsmiley:
Cleaned the snow up again about 6 inches more in other areas that drifted. I wont cry if I don't have to do it again tomorrow! Oh my gosh, neighbour is plowing us out again! I knew we had more but dancing twice in one day is enough for me.
The snow is up to my waist doing the trails for the dog.
My word Amy - but then I guess it is only the middle of February and snow would be heavy - glad you have your sewing to break you day
Love the advise to do a bit of in-house trekking... :D Problem I'd chicken out afraid he would make it worse...
I think I would more likely start with attempting a kindness maneuver like baking some brownies, bringing them down and ask if he would be a good neighbor and lower his music especially mid afternoon when I'm napping and after 8:00 when I'm trying to watch a bit of TV before I go to bed at 9:30. If he complies I'd leave him a thank you note with some cookies hanging from his door handle. It'll be interesting to hear how Patricia handles it -
Good Luck Patricia with whatever you do...
Wasn't going to watch TV at all tonight - usual is Sunday night PBS - 'Best laid schemes o' mice an' men' - I just couldn't resist All Creatures Great and Small and of course once on I stayed with it watching each show including of all things a new detective type all in French - With so many from Louisiana who stayed after Katrina that was a no brainier.
Mostly sunny tomorrow with even higher temps and so my furnace should not be fighting with itself but then Tuesday it supposed to pour down rain all day.
Good NOT SNOWING morning..
I think all I have to do is tidy up the area and do the front deck, We like to keep areas open incase I need to call an ambulance.
Today is coast after tiding up, coast just may include sewing
Barb, when one gets past "the work" of snow one can also see the beauty of it. Everything is so pretty, with pines dressed in white lace. Snow drifts with sharp edges formed by the wind just beautiful!
Patricia, maybe he doesn't realize how much his sound travels?
Jane, where are you??
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend! And this morning really is a better one than yesterday! Night before last was a bad night! I couldn't sleep and ended up on the couch with blankets all over me and a very sore throat. Yesterday wasn't a particularly good day but today started of well.
I'm having breakfast with all of you. No Cooper today! They had worse weather in Maryland so Frankie called off work and is going to try to make it home today!
AMY, you have a LOT of snow but you also have a good neighbor! That's so nice of him!
I have some things planned to do today. I don't know what will get done. Cathy and I have a a couple of errands to run but she doesn't usually come until right after lunch so the morning is mine! I wish you all a great day! Do whatever suits your fancy! And let us know what that was!
Patricia - My suggestion about the radio volume was a last choice item.
OK, I am a bit frustrated this morning as I do not SEE my post from yesterday😩😩
It was here.....
I saw it......Did anyone else?
Denver --- Not to worry. It's in "Norms Bait and Tackle". Just saw it there.
https://www.seniorsandfriends.org/index.php?msg=259630
Good morning, zero presently, but it's back in the positives for the rest of February and March as we transition.
Rick, that was Barb with the brownie suggestions. Barb, this man has many issues. Management has been trying to evict, but evidently must take care due to those issues. Yesterday, there wasn't a sound, so perhaps he received a notice of intent? I'm hoping this is the end of it. He is not a nice or well liked man.
Today and yesterday have been busy, but I've gotten a lot of little things done that were beginning to add up.
Amy, no real snow here, every time it snows, it rains so more ice than snow out there. I cannot believe your snow!
It's a dry, not a wet climate here, so we usually don't see that much snow anyway. March is probably our snowiest month as temperatures warm and humidity returns, but if the weather forecasts hold, we won't see snow in March this year.
[/b]Cathy and I had 3 places to go today and we found out that two of them were closed due to Presidents Day Celebration. Sw we're going to try those two tomorrow. That'll be my afternoon trip. And Cooper and Frankie made it home today so I'll have company tomorrow.
I'm heading off to bed as soon as I close down here. This darn thing locked earlier so I just turned it off and left it rest a bit and here it is...back on and working. Do you think it missed me?
I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a great day tomorrow. Do whatever suits your fancy. And don't forget to tell us what that was. We're very interested!
Good morning..
Chilly start to the day with a temp of -2° F...on the up side no new snow! Yet.
Will see how the day goes after picking up meds and a few groceries. I know what should be done, but it just may not get done. The work is outside so we shall see as the day goes.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Unfortunately Rick, the post in Norm's was a totally different one. After thinking about it, I posted in here then saw a couple of errors, so I corrected them and when I reposted it was taking a long time, but I thought sure it was there🤷 Thank you Rick. It was one of myvway too long posts that acknowledged just about every one.
MARS, I thanked you in my "lost post" for asking about my cataract surgery. It went very well and I am amazed at how clear and colorful everything is, just as everyone says❗️ I chose a higher package that I have to pay just over 3K for each eye above what Medicare pays. I have astigmatism in both eyes and this special lens corrects that for me. In addition my eye was done with laser and I was told the healing time is less due to this. I went in the following morning for my check and the doc told me it looks perfect and there is very little swelling so I could cancel the one week follow up appointment. My second eye is scheduled for day after tomorrow, the 20th and I cannot wait to get it done.
Sadly, I don't really remember all the details of what else I posted that was lost, but I tried to address most of you and that is why I was sorry to not see my post😩😩
I wish you all a good day.
Patricia sounds like you neighbor is a real winner :tickedoff: :P :knuppel2:
Amy how you do anything in those kind of temperatures is beyond my imagination :smitten:
Denver that is so frustrating to loose a post - and I bet more frustrating to retype :( and for your effort :-*
Looks like we are being somewhat affected by this latest vortex - is this just a new word the weather men have come up with or is it a new thing and we are having two of them this year???
Also waiting on my son to come by just after lunch - my furnace made three increasingly loud bangs and the last one shook the house - Over an hour later and I've inched the thermostat up to one degree below what the temp is reading to see if it comes on - so far notta ---
Not uncomfortable cold and yet, the thermostat reads 68 and the few room thermometers read 69 - during the day on cold days I usually set the thermostat at 71 and here lately since the new furnace and thermostat was installed the heat would go up as much as 74 and 75 before it shut off - No matter what I tell these guys including my son they do not believe me - I've decided it's one of the glories of being old - the thinking is old people don't know what they are talking about - Well we shall see - problem I'm the one paying for this and being made uncomfortable in my own home grrrrr and now God knows what happened and He is not telling me nor can I manage the pulldown attic stairs to look for myself if the furnace blew up.
Ok it appears I'm in for a day of fun and games - hope y'all have a good day that is calm and satisfying... till later...
Good morning, eleven degrees and cloudy presently, so nice to see the clouds back to hold in any heat. Meet and greets, morning routine and Farrah fed and coffee's on. So here I am to visit with everyone.
Furnace fixed - not as dire as I anticipated - seems nearby road construction caused the loud bang that shook the house this morning and NOT my furnace although it dislodged a few connections including the outside security cameras - just about got that all taken care of and now this 'stella' road construction crew broke the water main and so no water for about 4 hours - to add to this inconvenience I have cleaners here that I schedule for every 6 weeks and of course they are here now with no water... we are getting what hot water is left in the hot water tank so that they can do some of the cleaning...
I'm sure folks would complain about extra cost however, seems to me there should be a fund to re-reimburse nearby home owners for the extra cost of extra cleaning and being without ether water, or electricity when their crew brakes things - so far no gas main broken - as things are going I wouldn't put it past them... then a real explosion would take place... sheesh
This has become a sitcom of the unexpected... at the point laughter is all that is left - can't rustle up any more outrage nor even annoyance... :coolsmiley:
Sounds like one of those days when you just sit there waiting (hopefully) for your coffee to finish and think - what's next.
Good Night Everyfriend! Today was a SHEESH day for me! Cathy and I took all kinds of papers to the office to get me a new card to enable me to by air flight tickets. She looked at all the stuff and then said "do you have a name change card". I just looked blankly at her and she explained. I dropped my given first name when I was 10 and haven't used it since except on travel cards. And I didn't have anything official that allowed me to change my name. So from now on I either walk, drive, take the bus or stay home!
When we got home we called Cindy in Oklahoma and told her that if I went back with her after my birthday I was unable to fly home. She said, "No problem! I'll just drive her back home". So my visit with my Great Grand kids is still on!
Now I'm heady for the haystack. I don't have Cooper for the day tomorrow but Frankie is coming by to give him a bath and then leave him while she goes to the grocery store. She'll pick up a couple things for me while she's there! So Good Night! Sweet Dreams! and make tomorrow your best day ever!
Wow Jane bummer - can someone else buy the airline ticket and gift it to you - the officials don't have to know you paid the person gifting you the airline ticket.
I did look it up and its not an inexpensive project changing your name in Pa. and in fact they say they can approve or disapprove based on why you are changing your name - sheesh --- hmm I wonder if you could change your name with less hassle and less money in Oklahoma - Looks like Oklahoma only charges around $154.14 for the court filing fee, plus an additional publication notice fee of approximately $30, bringing the total to around $184.14 however...you would still have to pay the cost of changing your driver's license but then - what would it be like to get an Oklahoma drivers license and then after a few months transfer it to PA. Just use Cindy's address - as an elder moving in with family for a time is not unheard of and you don't have to share for how long... Just trying to figure out if there is a way around all this...
Took a long nap late this afternoon and only woke well after 6: but it was worth it - Head clear, Water back on, House clean - gave them a generous tip when they left - had soup in the frig to heat up and so it was like waking up to a clean slate. I think I would probably have slept through till the early hours but a storm with lots of donner and blitzen flashed and crashed me awake - caught up on all the news - TV series Murder She Wrote was a repeat I've seen a couple of times and so shut that off and now heading to bed... sleep tight everyone...
Good morning..
Starting off at -13°F bit chilly. I did manage to get some of the "jobs" done yesterday. Removed snow off the back roof and part of the utility trailer with the snow rake then blew it away. One more roof to do but we shall see, I didn't listen to me yesterday but I just may listen to my muscles today. Seems we are in for more snow tomorrow.. :tickedoff:
Made a IP of bean and ham soup for today..will think about supper later. ::)
Barb, bright sunny days and dressed warm is fine. I have a Woods down coat and you can't wear it unless the temps are in the basement.just too hot but great for these minus temps or bitter winds.
Better get the day started.
Enjoy your day and stay safe..
Good Morning Everyfriend! I slept in a tad this morning! I wasn't up on my feet until almost 7. No Cooper this morning. Everything is done so far, bed is made, I had breakfast, cleaned up the kitchen, put in the first eye drops. However, I'm not yet dressed. This is very unusual for me. I usually get dressed to meet Cooper so we can have a walk right after his breakfast. I think maybe I'm loafing this morning!
AMY, I thought it was cold here this morning (when I got up it was 12 degrees) but you are even colder! Please keep it in the North. And if you want to chase it from your area, PLEASE chase it NORTH! I AM READY FOR SPRING!!!
I guess I better think about getting dressed and MAYBE I'll try taking a walk in this (crappy) weather! And maybe I won't! I could always do circles inside the hours.
BARB, thanks for the advice about the airline tickets. I made a note and I check that out. I wonder if they would actually let me fly on a ticket that someone else gave me even if my ID doesn't meet their requirements?
I wish you all a good day! Make it your own in every way! And don't forget to tell us how you did that! We're very interested (or is that word "nosy"?
Snowing here, too. Very fine flakes but has already covered rooftops and decks. Supposed to last into tomorrow. Schools here and many surrounding counties are closed. And it is cold! 🥶 I did my walking inside.
Take care, All.
Colder and overcast - no telling what will fall or shine from the sky next... Big dental appointment tomorrow - a temporary made permanent and a recently chipped front tooth capped and a bridge to be installed - I'll be exhausted after - already have my soup - rather all this done now then in summer during our 'hanging in there' weather.
Amy interesting about the Wood coat - never heard of it so thanks for letting me know...
Jane I wonder if when someone buys a ticket as a gift if they can have your name as it appears on anything you have show - I guess you would have to find out what else is official other than a driver's license. Didn't you say you had a passport - maybe use it and just tell them you no longer drive and just haven't gone yet about an ID when you were gifted this ticket to visit Cindy. I'd also look into flying a private plane - seems they are not that expensive and they became very popular during Covid and now folks are using them to avoid the rigamarole commercial flying requires.
Good late morning at ten. I was up until two thanks to my neighbor below. I missed my meet and greets, and am late feeding Farrah and getting online. I also need to make coffee. I've already submitted three Tenant Complaint Form, so I am thinking of investigating other ways and means.
Good morning EVERYFRIEND.
The Sun is shine brightly and I am feeling so happy‼️
AMY, listen closely for a knock on your door.....I love bean soup and I will be joining you and Kyle for an imaginary bowl of it together ❣️ Sounds like you are paying for all that heavy work you did yesterday removing snow off of roofs😩 I know it needs to be done, but I worry about you having to do all the heavy work.
PHYLLIS, I am sorry you continue to have more snow and cold weather. A friend of mine left out of Ft. Lauderdale FL on a cruise to Europe and she posted pictures this morning 0f the calm waters of the Atlantic....it was beautiful and nearly flat as a lake. I was surprised as I expected it to be rough with all the storms that are in the East right now. Keep warm.
BARB, I am chuckling and feeling sad for you regarding the furnace issue. I cannot tell you how many times I grumble at myself because I can no longer grab the bull by the horns and go do things myself. I have issues come up and son and hubby just look at me like I am crazy when I tell them different things. I don't doubt I am a bit c R a Z y....but these issues are REAL‼️‼️
Now I see you are dealing with a whole lot more today......
'This has become a sitcom of the unexpected... at the point laughter is all that is left - can't rustle up any more outrage nor even annoyance..." 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
JANE, YIPPEE your travel to / from OK is all good❣️❣️❣️
Hubby is out for his walk and I am to be ready to GO when he returns.
Clinic just called nd I am to arrive at 8 AM for my second eye cataract surgery at 8AM. I can not wait...I just want to get 'er done‼️‼️‼️
Have a good day.
Bright sunny day that let me remove (rake) the snow off the last roof...NO more!! Got it all cleaned up with the snowblower and made a better trail for the mail lady to get at our mail box.
They say we are to get more snow tomorrow but really??? My frind sent a photo of her granddaughters dog and the snow they were blessed wih,we got off lucky as they have an accumulation of 18 FEET!! She can't look out hger windows and roofs have been collapsing.
Barb, it has to be really cold to wear this jacket and keeps you very warm.
https://tinyurl.com/3x5bfc67
Jenny, there is lots of soup, I have yet to learn how to make a small pot of soup! Snow removale again today but that is it..now to wait till the next snow fall which could be tomorrow. :(
Phyllis, look at the snow from inside your home...much safer!
Patricia, would it do any good to talk with his worker??
Going to be an early night again I think..
Amy, I don't have access to that information. My only conduit is through the landlady. The state purchased this building along with seven others in 2016. Since we're state owned, the building has to have available seven apartments for those disabled seniors with mental issues not severe enough for hospitalizations. This man has one of those apartments.
I turned in another complaint form today, and I don't know what the next step is. The median rent price for efficiencies and one bedrooms, locally for January 2025 is $1,700. This is $150 more than January 2024. Plus there would be first month's rent amount deposit and then utility deposits plus a non-secured building and laundry costs. Very few rentals allow pets, and those that do, require a hefty pet deposit.
This building is secured, camera in all public areas, trash inside disposal per floor and free laundry on each floor, plus security and maintenance. Plus, the rent is just under the medium amount.
My front yard and street on this snowy day.

Wow Phyllis and you live outside Raleigh don't you... echo Amy, better watching from inside - safer in many ways... thanks Amy for the link... OK going in for a nap - miserable cold day and do not feel like starting anything - a bit nervous about all the dental work tomorrow so rather than getting into a stew I think a nap is in order...
That is right, Barb.....shoulder to shoulder with Raleigh. This is unusual weather for us so all schools were closed and some businesses. People were asked to stay home and off the roads. We just don't have the snow removal equipment to deal with it.
Well, we didn't get any more snow today but it sure was cold out there! When Frankie stopped over we had a nice visit and right before she was ready to toss him in the bath tub he told me he needed a walk. So I took him and he made good time. He didn't stop at every weed, rock and bush along the way. It way toooooooooo cold! But he did need the walk!
I probably won't make it in here in the morning. I have an early drs appt and Cooper will be arriving at 6 a.m. I'm going to be pressed for time getting ready for the appointment and taking care of Cooper. Just miss me a little. I try to get in around lunch time or so! I'm heady for the haystack a bit early tonight and getting up a it early in the morning!
I wish you all a peaceful night'sleep and a great day tomorrow! Do what suits your fancy!
Good morning..
Yippie, tis warmer!! We are starting off at -2° and no new snow! We need to do some banking this morning, and then I am going to coast the rest of the day.
Jenny, wishing you the best on your eye surgery today.
Phyllis, will your snow stay?
Patricia, you are between a rock and a hard place with your noisy neighbour.
Better start the day..
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Getting tired of this cold weather, but fortunately, we haven't had too much snow/ice, etc. Today is going to be pretty much a repeat of yesterday except, perhaps, an hour or so of snow showers. It is 14o now, getting up to about 24o.
Yesterday I had a nice time at a local pub with Sue and friends for her birthday. I ate half of a half-rack of ribs and fries and brought the rest home for today. Sue likes their cheese steak subs, so that is what she ordered. Next weekend we are planning on going out to celebrate our version of St. David's Day. We are on our own with this because the local Welsh Club disbanded around four or five years ago. I wonder if the local garden center near Hoss's will have potted, blooming daffodils for sale. It may be a bit early, though, because Daffodil Day is not until the last week of March.
Good morning Amy, et al.
I'm home and changed back into my home clothes and ready for my lunch. I didn't eat much breakfast because i was in a hurry to get ready for my dentist appt. I had a cood appt. They cleaned my teeth and didn't find any cavities! HOORAY!!!
I wish you all a great day! Make it your own in every way! I'll try to get back later. Have lots of stuff to catch up on.
Good Morning!
Good Night Everyfriend! I'm worn out and ready to hit the haystack! I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow! GOOD NIGHT from ME!
https://youtu.be/lPBF1RcQ00w?si=yTlv2V07JPH_bb2O
And now - beyond belief... not the corpse of the mother
Good morning
Overcast with a temp of 2°... Need to take away the garbage today. We dont have a lot more recycle than anything else.
Jane, happy to read you got a great report.
Slept in so I had better put an egg in my boot and beat it.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning to you,
Good Morning to you,
We all in our places
With sunshiny faces!
Good Morning to you!
Good Morning to you!
This is how we opened every school day when I was in first grade. I think we had a frustrated music teacher for first grade! But I loved it and I never forgot it! And I never forgot Miss Coder!
Today is "what should I do" day! I have all the stuff gathered to make my vegetable soup but I want to cook it on a day before I don't get Cooper so I have the day to myself to can it. That won't be this week because I have him at 6 a.m. through Sunday. I need to get her schedule for next week.
Right now we have 19 degrees with a "feels like temp of 13" Oh Spring, where are you? Please push this cold off to next winter!
I'm getting warm from our walk. It sure does take a while after I get home. I wish you all a great day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow! Do whatever suits your fancy!
Just checking in to let you know I am still alive. SUNNY(!) this morning but still cold. Must order some groceries today but not much else going on.
Take care, All.
Same.
ANGEL, ;D
Overcast but a tad bit warmer - clear and vegetable soup just was not enough and so I ordered a bunch of frozen pasta meals and more juice - hoping the permanent bridge will not involve hours in the dental office - still a bit done in and between napping at all sorts of irregular hours my night sleeping was hit and miss - settled in reading today wrapped in my pet blankets - I've two and they keep me snugly warm -
Been trying to keep alive two pots of oregano - so far so good however, the one pot looks less full and I may loose it - thought for sure I'd be able to plant them outdoors by now but I notice even the trees show no sign of life.
Like Punxsutawney Bob in Texas we have Bee Cave Bob, a nine-banded armadillo, predicting the Texas winter forecast on February 2. This year he did NOT see his shadow and so we are supposed to have an early Spring - we shall see what we shall see...
Well, here I am to say....Good Night Everyfriend! I had a busy day but tomorrow won't be so bad. The dinner I made for today had enough for tomorrow and a couple more days. And I made Jim's Egg Thingys so breakfast is ready and I have some leftovers for lunch. I still have some laundry to fold and put away and Cooper will be arriving a bit before 6 a.m. so the day will be off to an early start.
Other than walking Cooper and filling the bird feeder and putting the laundry away, I can't think what else I might be doing tomorrow. There will be a BIG newspaper to read! Since they stopped Sunday delivery, the Saturday paper has grown and it has three crossword puzzles and 3 wore games. So that will be part of my day.
I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy day tomorrow. Do whatever suits your fancy! It's yours to do whatever you want! Good Night! Sweet Dreams!
Goodnight anyone. Back tomorrow.
Well, it's not so busy in here. Good Night RICK and Good Morning to anyone else who shows up. It's becoming daylight and I'll be off to freeze myself and take Cooper for his morning walk!
If anyone else shows up, I wish you all a great day! Make it your own in every way!
Good morning..
Work around home and hope to do more sewing. The quilt I am working on has 875 pieces and as the song says I have only just begun.
Phyllis, is your snow still there ? Ours has made it impossible for me to hang laundry out :(
Jane, bundle up and stay upright out there!
If anyone would like to build a snowman we have lots of free material, free for the truck load. :2funny:
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
We lost a lot of the snow yesterday,
Amy, and will lose more today. The neighbor kids built a very small snowman and he is beginning to sag. I think I can hear a plaintive "I'm melting...I'm melting" coming from that direction. :)
Quiet day ahead....still trying to gather tax information and trying to coordinate with David about when he can help me finish the job.
Hope to get it done soon.
Take care, All.
Good Morning Everyfriend! I didn't get by last night. I fell asleep during Perry Mason's first show and woke up in the middle of his second show and decided it was time to hit the hay! So I turned off the Living room lights, went to the kitchen and did the last minute stuff and down the hall to the bedroom! And for the first time in a very long time, I slept soundly all night! The alarm woke me to get up for breakfast and to greet Cooper's arrival this morning. It's gonna be a great day!
AMY, I'm not coming by for some of your snow! I have a wish out for an Early Spring and I'm not about to clutter it up with snow! Sorry about that but that's life for me these days!
PHYLLIS, even you had snow as far south as you are! This sure has been a long, hard, cold winter!
Now I'm watching for the daylight so I can let Cooper take me for a walk and then I need to get dressed and ready for church. It's been a while since I went but I'm going today and I'm looking forward to it!
I wish you all a great day! Do whatever makes you happy! And don't forget to stop by and share it with us! Thank you very much!!
Good morning.
Not as cold today with a temp of 24°. We did have a light dusting on snow but nothing at the moment to worry about.
Not sure what the day will bring.
Phyllis, your lost snow turned up here, we have so much snow that it was hardly noticed.
Jane,I do wish for an early Spring! Some folks are running out of room on where to put the next snow fall!!
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Not as cold last night or today however, the sun was supposed to show itself and no sign of it - teasing is not fun after hiding for so many days :P
Nothing big happening today - decent TV on PBS tonight - hope everyone is having a calm and pleasant Sunday...
I had a very nice day today! I had a ride to church and a ride home and the service was very rewarding. Then I spent the early part of the afternoon walking with Cooper and then lunch and then sitting with him until his Mommy picked him up on her way home from church. After that, I tood a short nap!
I also made up a shopping list. Cathy is taking me to WM to get my hair trimmed and pick up a few items tomorrow. Then when I come home, I'm going to get started on the vegetable soup. I'll cook it tomorrow and can it on Tuesday and I'll have that off my mind! I have 4 quarts promised to my church for the first Sunday soup sale and I usually take 5 quarts because there's a young gal who sells it and she always grabs a jar as soon as I show up at the door!
If I could get it there, I'd bring some to some of you. It's my Dad's recipe and he started selling it at the church MANY years ago. So I'm following a tradition!
Now I'm on my way to the haystack! And I'm hoping for an all-nighter again tonight like I had last night. I very rarely sleep all night without getting up at least once but last night I did just that! It felt great!
Good Night Everyfriend! Sleep peacefully and wake to a happy day! Make the day your own in every way!
who sent that snow this way???
It is snowing in Haifa and Jerusalem!
Good morning..
Starting out at 22° with the threat of snow!! We have more than enough snow here, not as much as those to the north west of us where they have a total of 18 FEET!! Can't imagine what the Spring run off will be like.
Better get some baking done and clean floors today.
Enjoy your shopping trip Jane.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Bubble, it is not that we don't share but it wasn't me that sent it...ask Miss Jane. :)
Don't blame that snow on me, ANY and BUBBLE. My only wish is that it doesn't come down in my driveway and down the street where I walk with Cooper!
I got a new canner and I've bee trying to put it together this morning and it goes all the way until I try to close it to lock it and then it won't close! Am I stupid? I followed the directions at least a dozen times so far and I can't close it! Cathy doesn't can but she is good at following directions and doing stuff the right way so when she comes over this afternoon, she'll have to take a look at it.
Now I'm just going to forget about (if I can) until she gets here. That's not going to be easy because it's all over my dining room table!
I wish you all a great day and I hope it started off better than mine and I hope the rest of it pleases you and you enjoy whatever takes your fancy!
Quote from: JaneS on February 24, 2025, 07:45:42 AMt goes all the way until I try to close it to lock it and then it won't close!
Might there be something blocking it - to be sure you read all the Directions. A little piece that you must remove first.
A good Monday HELLO to EVERYFRIEND.
I thank you for the kind wishes for my second eye surgery AMY. The surgery went very well and now I have two matching eyes to see out of. I have felt much more need to rest this eye than I did with the first one. I am trying not to use this device any more than necessary. I often just sit with my eyes closed as it is soothing to them. I am doing the eye drops religiously as advised and find that I really look forward to putting them in for comfort.
Other than that we are just kind of taking it easy. We are hoping to start playing tourist soon as there are many areas we want to revisit here while we have the chance.
I wish you ALL a good week.
Well, Cathy closed the canner with no problem and when I saw her do that, I tried to open it and I couldn't. I guess I'm just weak in my old age. However, we made a daal for getting it open to use and then again to get the jars out. I think this might be my last batch of vegetable soup for the church's soup sale. Cathy says that as I'm putting this batch together, I should write down the recipe so I can pass it on to the next generation! So that's on my list to do!
Now I'm off to get some chores done and to make a run to the corner to the mailbox and see what the mailman left me. Continue your day.
Oh yes, I forgot...my haircut is done and the stuff is picked up from WM. On with the day!
Good Night Everyfriend! Sleep peacefully and wake refreshed!
Tra la... Last Thursday had a temporary bridge put in my mouth till the permanent one comes in - lots of work lasting just under 3 hours and when I went to bed that night I noticed my hair pick that holds my bun was gone - looked among my clothes and next morning when Paul called asked him to look in his vehicle - it was the last black one I had and being shorter than the rest I used it often. He suggested I look at my coat - well one thing and another the temporary bridge causing all sorts of issues and so Dentist called this morning and over we go - got everything straightened out and on the way out I asked the gal at the front desk assuming it would have been a cleaning service that found it and would not know what it was - looks like a black chopstick - and before I finished describing it she was rustling around her desk and under the keyboard voila she holds up my hair pick - I was happier to get that back than all what they did to make the temporary more comfortable.
Jane how special to have a unique family recipe but now the first generation to struggle with this new devises - if they just made things to copy what we have to replace but oh no - the new is said to be better but my thinking is whatever it is it is made in a way to cut costs and use as much plastic as possible compared to the things most of us have that used metal and wood, screws and washers, rods and springs - and lasted for years - and of course that is the problem - what we have lasted and lasted so they could not sell a new one to us every 3 to 5 years. I'm glad your daughter comes by and helps figure these things out and now it appears you'll need to ask her how to open and close the canner. Always something...
Denver so glad your eye surgeries have both worked out well - sure is a lift to our lives when you can see clearly and with all the colors intended - yes now that you can see so well travel is the perfect ticket while you can.
Oh my goodness SNOW in Israel - Bubble how often does that ever happen? Although looking on a map it appears Israel is a bit further north of the equator compared to Houston - I did not know that your at 3500 plus kilometers and we are 3300 plus and we experience snow every 5 to 7 years and so I guess it is not unheard of to have snow in Jerusalem or Haifa.
Well we are back into the 70s with the sun shining and everyone has a sparkle in their step again. whew - I'm thinking by the end of the week we'll be seeing a change in the trees.
Sweet dreams...
Good morning
Making thiis a quickie as we are off and running to the city for an appointment at th hospital. Neighbours are looking (spoiling) Jesse while we are gone. I hoppe to be on our way home before we get snow/rain.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend! It's a bit warmer here but I can't check the temp on my phone because it's asking me to put a lot of new info into it and until Cathy comes over and checks it out, I'm not using it because I'm not putting all that personal stuff in unless I know it's not travelling around the world!
I wish you all a pleasant day! Make it your own in every way! And let us know how you did that. We might like to try it out!
Where is Everyone???????
I'm here, but been a bit busy today. When I'm busy I need rest periods.
I slept more today than I can ever remember - up late and then could barely function and back to bed for over 5 hours and up, ate and then fell asleep watching TV - and sleeping soundly - for a change no nightmares or anxiety filled dreams - just woke again and will be in bed within the hour - this is crazy but if I have a good full day tomorrow it will be worth it...
Goodnight all ---
Good morning..
We left here at 6:30 for the 9:00 am appointment arrived at 8:40 ,didn't even get a chance to sit and Kyle was called in. Dr is so nice I know I felt confidence in him and his procedure of what is to come. Dr talked with you not at you
Managed to let Costco take my money but came home with everything (and more ) that was on my list.
Today is coast as we are off to the city tomorrow . I did manage to package up the tarts for friends to have and will deliver those today.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend! It's nice to see some of you back in the Soda Shoppe! I missed you all yesterday! Today I'm going out to lunch with the people I used to work with at Pennslyvania House Furniture way back before they left Lewisburg. We all stayed friends over the years and we try to get together for lunch once a month on the last Wednesday. There are still about 12 of us left and we usually have 8 to 10 who make it to lunch!
Cooper and I had our walk and it's still cold out there but it's supposed to make it to the mid 50s today. I do believe Spring is around the corner! AMY, please to not send the snow south. North of you would be the best direction!
Now I have to go get a shower and get dressed and do some odd jobs. I wish you all a great day. Make it your own in every way! And don't forget to let us know how you did that!
Good morning 😃
We will be enjoying another beautiful 70 degree plus day here in Prescott.
AMY, happy to read the drive to Kyle's appointment went well yesterday. Getting in right away and having a doctor talk to you, not at you, is great. Oh how we get sucked in to spending cash at Costco😂. We just go through the store a see things we have to buy that we didn't even know we needed‼️😘 After reading your post again I see you got everything on your LIST......and that is great‼️ IT takes willpower to not be tempted to buy more than you need.
BARB, thank you for your kind words about my 👁's doing so well. It is truly amazing the difference it makes for the clarity and bright colors. Even just looking up to the beautiful blue sky is a treat‼️
Happy you were able to retrieve your hair pick. I hope your temporary bridge is not causing you too much discomfort. Hope you are having a good day after your restful sleeps yesterday.
Wishing EVERYFRIEND a good day.
I'm not putting all that personal stuff in unless I know it's not travelling around the world!
That's exactly why I don't post details about myself and my family! Maybe I'm wrong but I've always thought anyone in the world can read these posts; they just can't post unless they've registered!
"Spring has sprung" in central Oklahoma - at least for this week. Complete opposite from last week when temperature was hovering about Zero. Everyone, including me, is trying to catch up! Today is "lazy day" -the only day this week I don't have to be anywhere or somebody is coming.
Wishing Everyfriend an Enjoyable Day
Good morning, I've finished my morning routine, Farrah's had her breakfast and meet and greets went well. All that's left is coffee to finish. I've found I drink eight cups of coffee in the morning and ice water from the fridge all afternoon, so I get both daily requirements and in proper order.
We are back in our prelude to Spring, with March being our last gasp of winter, although it has been known to snow in April.
The Iditarod, the last one thousand mile dog race, will have a ceremonial start in Anchorage and then the racers and teams will be flown to Fairbanks, for the real start due to Anchorage's lack of snow. The race to Nome commemorates the serum race to Nome in 1925 when dog sled teams delivered life-saving diphtheria antitoxin to combat a potential outbreak in Nome.
The race typically covers approximately 1,000 miles (1,609 kilometers) of challenging and diverse Alaskan terrain, including forests, mountains, frozen rivers, and desolate tundra. Mushers, the competitors in the race, are required to navigate this grueling course while caring for their teams of sled dogs, ensuring they stay healthy, well-fed, and motivated throughout the journey.
Callie, anything put down and posted from a computer is there in perpetuity. It is available to anyone or anything accessing the site. Both Microsoft and Google copy and save everything you post on their systems.
I checked and found that Jerusalem gets 10 to 15 centimeters of snow about once every seven years on average
Trees have that look - I notice at the end of winter before they put out any green nubs they have this upright look as if reaching for the sun rather than the flat look of sleeping through winter.
Only one hanging plant sorta made it after having been in the garage all this time - I'm thinking I'm going to let it go as well - too much work to cut away all the dead and nurse the bit of green back to a thriving display - Surprise surprise - just put the garbage out and noticed the pot of mums I put out well over a week ago to get some of the rain is doing quite well in spite of the cold last week - thinking on it realized where it was cold it was not freezing and so without a plan looks like I have a pot of mums.
Daughter just called while I was writing this - she was under the impression from one eye doctor that getting cataract surgery was going to clear up her double vision and thank goodness her regular eye doctor was back in town and helped her understand it would not - she is struggling with this since her vision was perfect till she was age 45 where as I've been dealing with eye issues since I was a kid although didn't develop double vision till I was in my 50s - and that was scary - had new eyeglasses when I was in my 70s and they did not adjust them for the double vision which I was not noticing till it was dark - on my way home from visiting Paul and Sally who then lived in College Station while I lived in Austin and all of a sudden could not tell if there was one or two barns on the side of the road or worse one or two vehicles ahead of me and which was the real one - as I approached Austin the same with traffic light - I managed and it took twice as long to get home but I did it and of course first thing called the eye doctor in the morning who arranged a rush order from a place in San Antonio so that I had appropriate eye glasses within 2 days - but my glasses help both my reading and distance where Katha needs two sets of glasses - one for reading and one for distance.
Well day is gone and supper to fix - hope everyone had a good day...
Cataract corrections (surgeries) are amazing. Including the possibilities of correcting vision problems. Everyone I heard talk about it says "I should have done it years ago". I had one done, with that special lens to correct (whatever you call it). May get the other done later this year. Not up to it in this cold weather.
Good Night Everyfriend! I'm off to the haystack! Cooper will be arriving a bit before 6 tomorrow and he'll be spending the night! Gonna be a busy day! Have a peaceful night's sleep and wake refreshed! Make tomorrow your best!
Good night all. --- but fist --- Junee dropped in and posted over in Norm's B&T. Stop over there and leave her a message.
Good morning.
We are on the road again....for the last time this week.
Weather has been amazing, snow is taking a bit of a beating but we sill have lots. Weather folks are calling for more snow today but hopefully it will wait till we get back home.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend! Cooper is here and he's had his breakfast. He's watching the door while I watch the window for daylight so we can take a walk. Day begins! I wish you all a good one and. AMY, I hope you make it back home before more snow hits.
All of you, have a great day! And don't forget to share it with the rest of us! W miss you when you don't chat with us!
SOUP'S ON! THERE'S A BIG POT OF VEGETABLE SOUP ON THE STOVE AND TOMORROW IT WILL CANNED IN QUART JARS! COME EAT IT TODAY OR COME TAKE IT HOME TOMORROW!
Jane your soup sounds like a magical elixir - how many quarts at a time do you make and do you use water or stock to fill up the pot?
Good morning all!
bARB, The soup is made over my dad's (his mom's) recipe and it made with broth. If I used water, I'm afraid he'd be here to shake the stuffing out of me! When I remarked that this would probably be the last time I'd make soup to donate to my church's soup sale, my daughter suggested that I write down the recipe to share. I had to write it as I went because there has never been a recipe written down that I know of. I just bring everything into the kitchen and out of the freezer and start.
Tomorrow, I'll be canning it and the first Sunday in April, I'll be taking my donation to the soup sale at church. The money we make from the soup sales helps to pay for things that are needed for local babies and that makes me happy. It also makes me happy to keep my Dad's tradition going!
Gotta get moving! Have a good day!
Jane --- In line with keeping your dad's tradition alive, when you're done writing it down, post it here.
] Rick, I could post the recipe here but you'd have to cut it back considerably. It's makes 10 quarts for two deliveries to the church and I don't know how many pints for on my shelves and to share with family and friend! But I'll work on it!
Now I have to wait for the dishwasher to stop and take Cooper for one more jaunt in the yard and then get ready for bed. The morning will start early. The canner will be doing it's job tomorrow!
I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow. Make the day your own! b]
Good morning..
Yesterday did not go as planned. We left here innice weather and roads, half way to the city we ran into snow!! White outs , roads conditons not nice and we ended up cancelling both appointments and headed home. We saw one car off the road berry picking, cops and ambulance were there but I think the driver would be more shook up than hurt. We were lucky enough to get behind snow plows and stayed until they turns off. All appointment have been re-scheduled.
Today I have the joys of laundry after meeting with a friend to deliver what we had picked up for her at Costco.
Jane, just write the recipe as is and we can break in down into smaller servings. The church must look forward to all your hard work at making this delicious soup!!
Bubble, I wouldn't mind getting that amount of snow. Seems we are in for more snow this weekend.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend! The first batch of soup is in the canner and will be there for a while! I had a bowl for my supper last night and it's passable. I'm sure it's not up to my Dad's quality or his mother's (My Gramma's) but I like it and Cathy had some when she was here and she said that she needs the recipe if I'm quitting!
AMY, good you got back home safely! We wouldn't want you sitting out there in the snow!
I can't hear the timer on the soup but it has 48 more minutes to go and when Cathy was here she reminded me that we have tickets for the high school musical tomorrow afternoon so I think I'll put off canning the next batch until (maybe) Sunday afternoon.
RICK, when Cathy was here she made some notes on my recipe. I'll be typing it up and printing out copies for my kids. When I do that, I'll post it, too!
Now I have to get back to work! I wish you all a great day! It's yours to do with as you pleas but don't forget about us!
Quote from: JaneS on February 28, 2025, 09:49:47 AMWhen I do that, I'll post it, too!
Thank you, Thank you
Not a real good day for me but don't want to just sit in the recliner all day so trying to keep going with regular routine. Sunny and a little cooler today. Snow is all gone and temperatures were up in the 70's yesterday. It's a pretty day.
Take care, All.
Another day dissapearing. Picked up cracked 🌽 at the feed mill. Our crows are back! So nice to see and hear them , whistled to them and needed to run in for food ,to give them, they didn't forget!
Tomorrow will be another dance in the morning if this snow keeps up.
Jane, we were so happy to get behind snow plows, the closer we came to home the less snow we had to deal with. Guess it is making up for it today.
Enjoy your evening.
Good Night Everyfriend! It's been a busy day! Frankie didn't work today but she didn't come for Cooper until almost 4 p.m. I'd already fed him his supper and taken him for a last walk of the day. It was a gorgeous day today. When we came back from our mid day walk, I had to practically drag him in the house and he headed right for the front door and begged to go out. The yard is fenced so I let him out and he spent almost the next 3 hours ot there. Every time I went to the door and asked him if he was ready to come in, he looked at me for a minute and then looked away and laid down in the sun!
There are 7 quarts of vegetable soup sitting on the dining room table waiting to be labeled and 5 delivered to the church for the first Sunday in April sale! Tomorrow, I'm not going to finish it because Cathy has tickets for us to go to the high school musical in the afternoon! She takes me every year and I love watching the kids perform! I think I'll work on the soup Sunday afternoon!
This afternoon I saw a V of ducks fly over heading North! I really do think Spring is right around the corner!
And now I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow! Do whatever pleases you most! The day is yours!
