June, I don't want to tell tales out of school, but the Norm on the computer was not the Norm at home.  We all were very conscious of his health problems and catered to him and them.  He did not always realize the stress he put on the rest of the family because of his ailments.  An example would be at the airport where he would be in a wheelchair and Dot would be the one pushing him, but she also would have the luggage to care for.  If someone suggested help for Dot, Norm would reply that she was doing fine.  Dot has had arthritis all her life and has been in constant pain.  He disregarded her pain for his own troubles.  Incidentally, I do not know why Dot was the one pushing the wheelchair because there are people available to do that, although with Allegiant, I waited a half hour for someone to get me after arrival, and that could have been why she pushed.

June Drabek

Mary Ann, I understand. Norm was "on stage" when he was on the computer. With family and dear Dot he was himself. Dot was certainly his Angel. I know my husband was two different people with company than when he was the head of the house.

Time for this old lady to say Goodnight dear hearts. Sleep peacefully. God is watching over us. Thanks be to God.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

JaneS

maybe we all have a private and a public persona. Maybe we're all different with the ones we know love us and the ones were not so sure of. Good night my friends. I've missed you today. I'm not so sure this iPad is my friend.

Good morning everyone, all of 25° mow should get above freezing today. I did not go out at all yesterday. The few I sat were all bundled up with hats and scarves and mittens. I was not in the condition to bundle up so I could hardly move.

LLOYD  you have some great memories. This town has grown too much since I first moved here more than 60 years ago. Small towns were friendly and everyone knew everybody else and saw and knew every thing going on. I came here from a big city when I got married and it took me time to get used to it but I would never be able to live in a city anymore.

LARRY  hope today finds you even better. I used to love rollerskating when I was a kid, later we used to go to a roller rink, even had my own skates. In those days all that was served was soda, even where we used to go dancing. Today those dance places are gone and replaced by “clubs” where people go to drink. I have an iPhone sitting it the box it came in. I just could not understand it. Honey is great for keeping a sore throat away.

AMY  glad you had a good time on your day out. That hummingbird panel must be beautiful. Those beautiful little birds are fascinating. You did not say how much chocolate e you bought tho.

JENNY  that when you though was one posted by Joan at one time.

JUNE  I use a lot of paper plates, too, especially on week ends when I have to co my own dishes. I have no appetite and wish the doctor could find something to give me one. I remember Lillias at one time was prescribed something from her doctor and she tole us back in the Nest that she started eating everything is sight. Wish I could afford a place like where you are, I know I would enjoy all that activities. Nothing except bingo here on Wednesday evening. I never liked bingo so do not go. This was pretty lively when I moved here. The manager was new here then but she  is like a dictator, every thing has to be what she wants. She has locked the doors to the big kitchen downstairs several times because she said it wasn't clean and wanted the last ones in there to clean it up. How could they when they had cleaned after they used it? I know when I was there for a meal I always ended washing the dishes while others washed the tables and counters and swept the floor.

MARY ANN  some men do not realize how hard their wives work, I know my ex never did. His Mom never worked outside the home but I had to all my life. With my daughter's recent surgery my SIL has pitched in to do things he never did before and she has really appreciated it and let him know it. He even washed dishes, something it took him more than 60 years to do.

JANE  do you ever wonder at times about those who post here in the SS? Are we like what we post or are we putting on an act? With me what you see is what you get. I was never good with lies or imagination.

10 Reasons Adam Was The Luckiest Man

1. He is the only man who has never been compared to the man she could have married.

2. He had no in-laws to drop in.

3. There were no Jones for him to keep up with.

4. There were no credit cards OR shopping centers.

5. He never had his dinner interrupted by window salesmen.

6. He got away with wearing a simple wardrobe.

7. He never had to shovel snow!

8. If he had gone bald, who would have known that wasn't normal.

9. There was no "standard weight and height" tables - and the word FAT meant good.

10. When God asked "Adam, where are you?" He replied, "The woman you gave me was reading the map."

Blame the Internet
Author Unknown

I don't want to do the dishes,
I don't want to do the wash,
I sprinkled clothes a week ago
And now my iron's lost.

I don't wanna clean the pots,
I don't wanna rattle pans,
I wanna read my emails,
And chat with all my friends.

The table needs some dusting
and the floor could sure be mopped,
But I know if I get started
There'll be no place to stop.

The closets are stuffed so full
Now things are falling off the shelves,
I wish for cleaning fairies,
And magic laundry elves.

They could sprinkle fairy dust
And twitch their little nose,
And the windows would be sparkling,
And I'd have no dirty clothes.

I don't know what I'm saying,
My head is in the sky,
I must cook that meat that's graying
And bake that apple pie.

My husband needs a flea bath,
The dog needs some attention...
Oh, the other way around I mean!
My brain is in suspension.

I'm running around in circles,
I'm getting nothing done,
I keep thinking of the internet,
I'm missing all the fun!

I know I'm not addicted...
Though I hear that all the time,
But I guess that stuff will have to wait,
'Cause today I'll be ON LINE!!!

Good morning everyone..

I have a dance lined up for me this morning, doesn't look too bad, maybe 3-4 inches. Looks light and fluffy too.

Jane.iPad is our friend it lets you keep in touch with us however short it is. Do you have any idea of when your computer will be ready?

June, you are sounding a lot better too. I didn't bother with supper last night, the fish I had for lunch was big and I wasn't going to leave anything  so delicious on my plate. I did eat a few chips and my coleslaw ,gave hubby some chips and brought over half out to the dogs.

Jenny, not nice watching or accepting our Dad's age.I understand them having a time to accept it also.

Larry, so happy to read you had a good nights sleep! Sometimes that is the best medicine of all.

Gloria, love the poems. Well, the chocolate could be carried in a bag with one hand :smitten: We picked up dark covered cherries, caramel filled buds and truffles..All calories free I hope  ;D

Better get a move on here......soon the music will start..

Enjoy your day everyone..

Gosh, was I wrong on the inches of snow, it was 6 and snow is still falling. Everything looks so pristine first thing after a snow fall, just beautiful to see the pines all dressed in white lace. Gave the neighbour a knee slapping laugh this morning, we were both out blowing snow when he pointed to me, thought maybe something was wrong with my snow blower and I looked couldn't see anything wrong. Then it came, barreling down the highway sending snow  my way..snow plow was going by  :2funny:  I was far enough away that only a little of the spray got the back of my legs.

Lloyd, that is sad news, prayers for the families.

Hi Everyone.  I awoke to a rainy morning. Still feeling very tired today so will just take thing easy and probably stay in my easy chair as don't feel up to being in my office.  I just plan on napping, watching some golf this afternoon and then watching the Super Bowl this evening.  Pat plans on fixing a tuna casserole for our main meal and will likely fix it at noon as has a little more energy in the morning than the late afternoons.

Gloria

 Hello. Back again.

AMY  we are expecting rain not snow. Last I heard we will get at least an inch of it. I can feel the dampness already. One of my chocolate favorites in the cherries in the liquid filling. Hard to find these days, most have the creamy filling that is just too sweet. Of course all calories free of course.

LLOYD  I heard about that train crash earlier. Terrible lately about the train accidents.

AMY  those who plow the roads just love filling in the end of driveways so you have to shovel it again. Love your Hymns, copied them.

LARRY  on local NBC channel they have had nothing but the wait for the Super Bowl. Of course the talk is mostly about the Patriots.

Q: How is the bad economy affecting the Super Bowl?

A: Instead of a coin toss they are now going to play rock, paper, scissors!

Q: How many Detroit Lions does it take to win a Superbowl?

A: No one knows, and we may never find out!

Q: What do you call a bunch of millionaires sitting around watching the Super Bowl?

A: The Dallas Cowboys.

Shirley

Mary Ann, I had a nephew that took his own life some years before Norm died, he e-mailed a very kind note that showed a different side of the teasing Norm we saw online.  Because a brother and #1 son was so like him, I could see them being the same as Norm when "on & off".

When my son was 5 he was diagnosed with Perthes Disease (Legg-Calve-Perthes disease) in one hip, instead of being cured in 2 years it showed up in the other hip.  He was totally embarrassed with this issue because he now wore a brace on each leg that was connected together with a metal piece from hip to heavy leather belt around the waist.  The shoes were mounted in the brace & about 3" above the bottom "walking" part of the brace.  Rollers allowed the leg to slide up & down inside the brace... and he had to use crutches to balance.  When it was only one leg involved he wore a built up shoe so the leg could dangle inside the brace. Object was to keep weight off the hips.

He was the first in this area to have "bilateral" so was sort of a guinea pig.  His braces allowed him to only bend at the hips, difficult for him to sit in a class room all day with legs stuck out. He would allow his sister to stand behind him to get on the school bus and only other person was a little girl that lived next door... she treated him like any other kid, no sympathy or favoritism for his "disability".  He didn't know he was disabled during those years but only his closest  family or friends were allowed to help him in any way.  I'm guessing that is how Norm felt about Dot helping.... they gave their heart & soul AND pride to allow those special people to help.

Gloria, before I forget (not taking notes), do want to thank you for sharing that "When you thought I wasn't watching"... I guess it was when Joan posted it before that I read & unlike you, had no clue where I may have saved it.  I'm sending to my grands that have little ones, don't think they realize just how much their kids understand.

Larry, I hope you can get built back up soon, lack of sleep is our worst enemy "at our age".  I can't honestly say how much praying got done at church this morning, but hopefully God understands the distraction.  My grandson was an usher for the first time and his son (7) sat in the back with him but his wife & 2 little girls sat in the pew with me & my son & wife.  The girls are at the stage where they are young enough (3 & 1) that everyone smiles when they do something cute.  The littlest would start with "Da-da-da" every time her Dad ushered someone to a pew and the 3 year old got teary eyed when Dad came by with the collection basket & didn't stay with her.  Such a joy to witness how much they love their parents, and I'm pretty sure God had a smile or two as well.

Oh, Amy, I am so jealous of your snow.  Would gladly trade you this blasted wind!  Even winter lovers had to catch their breath at the knife like icy wind cut through clothes this morning.  I watered my little trees again yesterday, so dry they won't survive without.

I think anyone in here would recognize me in real life... the years of life with Cas I did try to "contain" myself.  He grew up believing nobody should know anything about him or his life, self conscious and pretty much silent with people he didn't know well.  We did balance each other, but one time my mother asked, "whatever happened to my sassy little Shirley?"   She meant the independent person I was from the time I could walk & talk.  I was totally different from my sister (and Mother), but she saw her twin sisters in me so ... years later told me that, "every time I left the house she would tell God I was in His hands now".   I was allowed to roam my end of town & even went by train to Kansas City by myself at 10, to stay with my oldest brother just out of a German POW camp at the end of WWII.  My sister would never have done that even 5 years older than me nor would my mother have gone off on her own, but her twin sisters did.  Her mother died when she was 7 & the twins were just a couple years younger, so she had to watch out for them most of their young lives.  Lucky for all of us that she allowed each to be the person we were born to be, ( we all thought WE were her favorite). ;)

So there you are, spilled my guts again (sorry, Mother, not lady-like).   :knuppel2:    Wishing everyone a fantastic week.

Good ones, Gloria!!!

Shirley

Does anyone know how to change the time in the weather "thingy"?   I'm sure Jeanne Lee put it in for me & all of a sudden it is NOT Central Standard time (like where I live in Wichita, KS).  I wouldn't know where to start but did check profile & didn't find a setting for time zone.  Maybe I don't want to know today..... my brain is worn out from all the password changes & iPhone learning, maybe a nap would help.

Lloyd Hammond

Shirley I think you start by putting your cussor over the time on your tool bar and rt clicking there.then click on task manager. you are on your own I don't reamber from there. Have fun.

Lloyd

Lloyd Hammond

Shirley I may add I have spent over two hours today trying to put my tool bar on the T V Laptop back on the bottom where it is normal and has accidentally got moved to the top. I got it turned upside down once and had a hard time getting it back right side up. so just gave up and left it at top for now, weighting on G D to come see us and fix it. Look to the young generation HA HA HA HA.

One more thing I did not know AMY was so windy But she must be because it is snowing like crazy out of the north from her way. we have a bit over 1" and still at it hard.  that is alright AMY we need the moisture and the nitrogen in the soil.
Have a great day.

snowing like crazy in central PA too. Been at it all day and will continue until around 8 this evening.

I cooked all morning while listening to Tennessee Ernie ford sing gospel music. I sang along. And the result is meat loaf and scalloped potatoes for four meals plus a good dinner today also extra meat loaf for a couple sandwiches.

I'm also one of those "what you see is what you get" kind of people.  I cook to relieve stress and I take a lot of naps and I scold my kids for trying to help me but I love them for it.

Lloyd,  :2funny: a little bit of snow won't hurt you!!

Snow is still coming down here and I am going to leave it until morning .I think I shall go out in the hot tub and just watch it come down.

Shirley, I would miss the 4 seasons, I know winter is a lot of work here but it is so breath taking beautiful.  Can you cover around the roots of your trees so the wind doesn't drink up the water on them? Here we use straw or sawdust any type of mulch would help.
I am sure Bubble would know how to do that Shirley...

Gloria, I just hope that snow plow operator had as good a laugh as my neighbour and I...won't live this one down for a while. But I will pay closer attention.

Shirley, a little explanation about the airport situations - Allegiant Airlines is a low-cost airline and flies direct from GR to St Pete FL.  Going on any other airline requires a transfer and you might end up in St Pete, but maybe Tampa or Sarasota - depending on the airline.  Allegiant does not have good service in the airport, at least not in GR.  I think I mentioned sitting in our airport in a wheelchair for at least a half hour waiting for someone to push me to baggage pickup.  There was another elderly woman beside me, also in a wheelchair.  Finally, an airport employee happened to come along, saw our problem and pushed us to baggage pickup.

That is why Dot would be the pusher for Norm's wheelchair.  GR has a long ramp to go up (departure) or down (arrival) - no elevator - and it isn't easy controlling a wheelchair with a 200+ pound man in it, holding a computer.  If Dot would lose control of the wheelchair, Norm would have gone down lickety-split and into a wall.  Once they had the luggage (one large bag) they would head for outside to be picked up by Tom or Terry.  Dot would be pushing with one hand and pulling the bag with the other.  We would  try to meet their plane and help but Norm kept insisting Dot didn't need help.  She didn't???  Just ask her today!

While it wasn't all Norm's fault (Allegiant's service is terrible), he could have been more understanding and suggested one of us help.

Everything with Norm was not as above, but he was not the easiest person to live with and I don't know how Dot did it.  We all miss different parts of our lives with him.

I think most of the weather things are not working; mine is not.  It may have to do with the weather!!!

Tom has just left to do some driving for Uber  Weekends are best, but not always and he looks to see on his app when there is a lot of traffic.  He has snow tires on his car so can get through in situations where others might not.

Dot and I started out for church this morning but after a couple of blocks turned back.  I don't know if I would have attempted it or not, but as I am no longer driving, I did not encourage Dot to continue.  We live about five miles from church.

Mary Ann

June Drabek

Amy, I just saw the picture of your girls. I wish it were larger. What are their names and what are their breeds ?

Janie, I am sure you are very correct, in that we all have different styles of presenting  ourselves in different situations. I know I do. I find the older I get the more I try present myself as others need me to be, and possibly what I need at the time.  And I think most of us are the same in how we act in particular situations.

Gloria, we are having a high of 80 today. I wonder what the temps are where Regina lives….maybe warmer than California. I have a feeling that most of us here are "what you see, you get". Or in our case, what you see is the real ME. I don't have much of an appetite either Gloria. We are given three meals a day in our contract, but I rarely eat more than one. My early mornings are busy with my own prayer time and now the breathing machine, and I just don't feel like socializing till around noon.

Larry, you are listening to what your body is dictating, and that is wise of you. Healing can only happen when the body is at rest. It is time for that to start taking place…I pray so.

I had lunch at home after Church, just didn't feel like going down stairs. Finished up the chili I had opened a couple days ago. Then I laid down to read until Gary and Dori arrived about two o'clock. How I love those kids. Gary took care of a lot of paper work for me, and Dori did her usual..making me feel very loved. What a wonderful girl my son took for his bride.

They are having a big super bowl party downstairs with hot dogs, tacos, soft drinks, I may go down and see how it is. I do not understand football. I know what a football looks like, but that's about it.

see you later..June
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Good evening, I have had company on and off all day. So am tired, so this will be a bit short. Raining right now.
Yesterday morning was 9. to day 44

My temp. and time is not right either, has not been for a week

Gloria, I did a lot of roller skating during the war. They were building a new road by the Navy Yard, but before it was open it was a great place to meet and skate. When I was going to grade school, I would    roller skates to school, sometime in the road, till my mother found out.  that ended my roller skating. thanks again for your extra post.

Amy, sounds like our snow last week, weatherman said a light dustin. we go 8 inches they also closed the schools

Good morning everyone..
The snow has stopped but the music still plays for me, I have another dance with the snow blower this morning. Temp is - 8° at the moment.
Not a lot on the agenda today, need to wash floors and pick up some cheese that is on sale...and that is it.

Gloria

Good morning everyone. Aw isn't it awful that the Patriots did not get their 6th Super bowl win?  How greedy can you get? About time things did not go their way. I do not like football and didn't watch any of the game.

SHIRLEY  you are right, youngsters do see and understand a lot more than adults give them credit for. At times my kids will bring up some memory for when they were little and it surprises me how well they remember. I did save a lot of what JOAN posted over all those years. I wish I could be more like you. I was very timid as a kid. Still to this day when I meet new people I am quiet and listen more than talk.

I have the local news on TV now and the poor defeated Pats have just landed at the airport.

LLOYD  we had rain all day yesterday and if finally stopped. Wednesday we ar e  in for a winter blast of a mix of rain snow and wind. I do not like that. That mean ole arthritis acts up with the dampness of rain. It is 40° now so at least no icy roads.

JANE  I love scalloped potatoes but I gave up, always make too much of it. Never did learn how to make a small casserole of it. I do enjoy a good meatloaf sandwich. One thing that I like better that way.

AMY  I am with you, I love to watch the snow falling and how beautiful everything looks before it gets walked on and dirty after it is on the ground later. Like you I like the 4 seasons, each one has it's own beauty. More than once I had shoveled my way out of the driveway and the plow would go by and fill the end in again. I often wondered if they enjoy doing that.

JUNE  this building is getting to be like a morgue. Not many go out or socialize, just stay in their apartments. So many are afraid they will be called into the manager s office to be told by the witch they cannot do this or that or making too much noise or something.

GLORIA de  skating in the road when I was a kid was what all the kids did. Very little traffic in those days.

MY TRAVEL PLANS FOR 2018

I have been in many places, but I've never been in
Kahoots.  Apparently, you can't go alone.  You
have to be in Kahoots with someone.

I've also never been in Cognito.  I
hear no one recognizes you there.

I have, however, been in Sane.  They
don't have an airport; you have to be driven
there.  I have made several trips there, thanks to my
children, friends, family and work.

I would like to go to Conclusions, but you
have to jump, and I'm not too much on physical activity
anymore.

I have also been in Doubt.  That is a
sad place to go, and I try not to visit there too
often.  I've been in Flexible, but only when it was
very important to stand firm.

Sometimes I'm in Capable, and I go there
more often as I'm getting
older.

One of my favorite places to be is in Suspense!  It
really gets the adrenaline flowing and pumps up the old
heart! At my age I need all the stimuli I can get!
