WINGS OF LOVE
- Helen Steiner
The priceless gift of life is love,
For with the help of God above
Love can change the human race
And make this world a better place ...
For love dissolves all hate and fear
And makes our vision bright and clear
So we can see and rise above
Our pettiness on wings of love.
Let It Be
The Beatles
When I find myself in times of trouble, Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be
And in my hour of darkness she is standing right in front of me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be
Let it be, let it be
Let it be, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom
Let it be
And when the broken-hearted people living in the world agree
There will be an answer, let it be
For though they may be parted, there is still a chance that they will see
There will be an answer, let it be
Let it be, let it be
Let it be, let it be
Yeah, there will be an answer
Let it be
Let it be, let it be
Let it be, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom
Let it be
Let it be, let it be
Let it be, yeah, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom
Let it be
And when the night is cloudy there is still a light that shines on me
Shine until tomorrow, let it be
I wake up to the sound of music, Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be
Let it be, let it be
Let it be, yeah, let it be
There will be an answer
Let it be
Let it be, let it be
Let it be, yeah, let it be
There will be an answer
Let it be
Let it be, let it be
Let it be, yeah, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom

I enjoy life when things are happening. I don't care if it's good things or bad things. That means you're alive. Things are happening.

Good evening all.
:hello: :study: :sleepy: :hugs:
Good morning..
Starting off not too bad but I am sure we shall fry again.Little white clouds are dotting the sky.
A lot of little jobs need taken off the docket, then maybe sew. May get the vehicle back today. I know that the garage was busy when I booked my appointment, not knowing I would be needing them beforehand. Now they can fix all items on the list.
Bubble, GREAT start to the day. Graphics are perfect and I enjoy Helen Steiner's poems. Have several of her books and they don't disappoint.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Thanks, Bubble.
I've taken a little bit of the downward path as far as feeling good [nothing serious, just not feeling up to par], so I'll keep this short and just say....
Take care, All.
Thank you for the new opening, Bubble. Great graphics and text, Einstein was one smart cookie, wasn't he?
Good morning, Phyllis. Mind if I join you over in the corner? I'm seriously thinking I need a nap.
We have light rain off & on (love it) but the temps didn't go down so kinda humid & sticky feeling. Yes, I did make a couple trips out the doors so far this morning.
Good morning. Mother nature is definitely running through her arsenal this spring. Not only are we under a fire warning and a flood warning, but now we have this?
"Special Weather Statement issued May 31 at 2:54PM AKDT by NWS Fairbanks
...Chilly Temperatures and Light Frost in Colder Spots Tonight...
Skies will clear out somewhat and winds will become light tonight.
The usual colder locations around Fox, North Pole, and Salcha may see a light frost. Residents with gardening interests should take precautions to protect any sensitive plants."
This is where the heat is congregated. "Temperatures are set to spike late this week in the Northeast ahead of a wave of cool air that will arrive from an unusual direction. But while there are likely to be some thunderstorms during the temperature transition, they may do little to reverse the building dryness and drought in much of the region, AccuWeather meteorologists say.
A large buckle in the jet stream has been responsible for bringing cooler-than-historical average temperatures in the southeastern United States and warmer-than-average temperatures in much of southeastern Canada in recent days. The warmth in Canada will push southward and intensify over the Northeast into Friday.
Hottest conditions to develop over interior Northeast
A pattern more typical of the middle of summer — minus the high humidity — will set up across the Northeast by the end of the week with many interior locations approaching the 90-degree mark, AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Brett Anderson said."
Happy June Oneth!
Another gloomy day in central Oklahoma. "Same old-same old" :( . Nothing new to post about.
Enjoy your day, Everyone.
Good Whatever part of the day it is where you are. I was just finishing reading this morning and getting ready to post when Ali and the kids showed up this morning. The kids stayed and Ali took off to the store and they left for home a little while ago for naps. We're making dinner and taking it over there tonight.
BUBBLE, I loved you new monthly set up but then, I always so love it. You are so talented and you have so many good authors to quote!
PHYLLIS and SHIRLEY, I hope you both perk up and enjoy the rest of the day! You do deserve that!
PATRICIA, the weather is Alaska is so varied day by day. You must have an awful time deciding what to wear and whether to ope a window!
When I'm finished here I'm going to go sit on the couch and start a new Debbie Macomber book. She's such a good writer and her books are light and easy to to enjoy!
I wish you all a good rest of the day! Enjoy!
Jane, we broke the existing record for the coldest June by a wide margin, and at about three pm, the rains started again. We have broken records in the state consistently since 2017.
There is no longer a real normal since 2020.
And Amy has fires still burning in Alberta and now Nova Scotia is on fire with over 16,000 evacuated.
NEWS FLASH!!!
I just got off the phone with Nancy (Lloyd Hammond's wife), happy to report they are fine. He is still recovering but sore from his fall and she has allergies but keeping busy. I told her we've all been worried about him.
AHHH! I have a fly buzzing around me so fast I haven't seen it, must go find a fly swatter. My daughter is off having dinner with #1 son & wife before she goes back to St.Louis tomorrow. She has to tell them how to keep me in line <grin>. I had her name put on the title with mine & insurance cards came in today with both names so am a little nervous about turning her loose with it. Car has 6,003 miles on it but nearly 3 years old. Covid, then cataract surgery & then this last 6 month "the pills"... so I did take it for a run around the block today to make sure the tires weren't square. All's well.
Made phone calls to my sister & sister-in-law along with the call to Nancy/Lloyd so am just waiting for the kid to get home with the car <she'd die if she heard me telling you this>......... Sweet dreams & God Bless Tisie/Shirley
Shirley, - Thanks for checking on Lloyd. Good that all is well.
Your car sounds like mine - No mileage - only used by a little old man to be sure it still works.
I'm glad to hear that LLOYD is OK and so is Nancy. Thanks for doing that for us, SHIRLEY. ALso sounds like your doing OK for now. Your kids really do look after you. Just make sure that car is running even if you don't want to go anywhere.
RICK, I refer to myself as "The Little Old Lady" in this family and my kids think it's funny because they don't think I act like one. But I think I do. I just do a few things like walking to keep going!
PATRICIA, I don't think any part of the country is normal these days! And I guess we just have to accept that. Things change and there's nothing we can do about it! I think it was 2 degrees hotter in Pennsylvania today than it was in Oklahoma! Cindy says I'm not missing much by not being there!
I took some pictures of the kids when they were here today. I'll try forwarding them to my email so I can then send them to BUBBLE to post for me. Some of them turned out pretty good!
Now I'm just about ready for the haystack. I think I'm still on PA time and that means its after 9:30 in my head. By the time I get upstairs and get ready for bed it'll be after 10.
I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one!
Good morning..
This is going to be fry day Friday with hopes of rain in the afternoon.
Hope to get the vehicle later on today. Not sure what is going on with the not starting as it has started every time for them??? Flat spot on the starter or wires on the starter were some of our guesses but they said it was checked out and all was fine.
Patricia, wild fires are nasty in the west and east. Lots of homes lost and I don't want to think of the animal life lost. :(
Shirley, thank you for contacting Lloyd and all is well.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
fry day Friday?
Here it is 104F at present and going up. I am not going out, no way!
Even the birds keep quiet...
Good Morning Everyfriend!
Ohmigosh! BUBBLE! I thought it was hot here and it's only going into the 90s! I think I would stay inside if I were near you, too!
AMY, I wonder why cars never behave at the the repair shop like they do in our driveway? It's like they want to make fools of us to the repair guys!
I'm not sure what's on the agenda today but Jim's has already gone off to water Ali's flowers for her. It's a bit more difficult for her with the new baby and two others to care for these days and he's a good Daddy and steps in to help her out!
I guess I better check my other stuff and get moving! I wish you all a ggod day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!!
Quote from: Amy on June 02, 2023, 07:04:32 AMThis is going to be fry day Friday with hopes of rain in the afternoon.
The same is expected here. Predicted high of 93° and at 8am it's on it's way past 70°. A bit unusual for here. Time to get some temp. control ready here in the house. I'm sure the A/C will be on later. Hopefully the predicted afternoon rain will come for the grass. If not, I will have to do it.
The rain barrel is pretty much drained..I would have to stand on my head to get the little bit out...we need the rain. Watered all that I could and enjoyed listening to the wind in the low flying geese.
Neighbour said he saw the fox last night, she was thin but other than that looked ok. She is likey the same one that had the kits across the road last year.
Rick we have the a/c on now..dogs also enjoy it one has a long coat ,the other a short one.
Lloyd, good to see you in here.....take care..
edited to add....oh my gosh Bubble.....that temp is not nice. Hope you have a/c or a fast blowing fan!!!
Good Morning everone, well we here are haveing currently, 84º and clear skys, well nancy just left to go get some of the things she thinks we need from yoeast brothers in town. well one of the grand clldern got the internet back up and running for me. I thank shirley for checking on after my fall. it was not any funn. my left handis stilll very sore,my rib is still felt but doing some better. Life is not much fun any more. My boddie hurts all over and my miend has lock jaw a lotof the time. i know if god calles my number I would be missed, but on gods time I am ready any time he calls. Have a good rest of the day, and a better tomorow.
Lloyd
Lloyd, great to see you in here!! Just take it one day at a time,no rushing ,easy does it.
welcome back, LLOYD! take care!
Even though I am feeling better today I would still welcome you in my corner, Shirley. We can talk a leg off of each other and if you bring snacks {hint} I'll bring something to drink....probably tea or ginger ale.
So nice to see most of the Soda Shoppe regulars back again. Stay with us, friends, and, as always,
Take care.
The good news is that the fires are out. The bad news is that the rains have returned. And the even worse news is that besides breaking the record for the coldest June weather so far, we had snow last night in the foothills; we did get some frost at 1500 feet and possibly an inch above two thousand feet.
Personally, I'm waiting for the locusts.
What happened to the Global Warming? Did we over correct again?
I'm always sorry to read of our group having so many health problems, along with serious weather problems in some areas.
I think some of you are experiencing hotter weather than we are here in Texas, but this is only June...I don't want to think about July/August.
My most recent problem was a Power Failure here yesterday evening. At 7:21 there was this horrendous "boom", which I knew to be a transformer blowing; immediately all my electricity was OFF. No A/C, no landline, no TV. My side of the street was affected, across the street power was still on (isn't that stupid?); the street perpendicular to me had a rapid "blip" but came right back on. Needless to say, I wasn't so lucky. I had found some excess (?) energy during the day, and had done some furniture moving to vacuum under, and I was sweaty and smelly, and feeling sick to my stomach. I went to my car, and sat in there with the A/C running till I cooled off. Went back in the house, heard the sound of a somewhat large truck, sounded like in the alleyway, so I took a stroll to see. Indeed it was the Oncor folk in the alley searching for the correct transformer. I thought, wow, it shouldn't be too much longer. Long story short, it was 2:21 AM when the power came back on, waking me up when all the lights, A/C returned. Since I was now awake, I went around and reset all the clocks; my landline phone was taking awhile to get back into its groove, but at least it was on. I do have a cell phone, thank goodness. So, there's my story for the day, and I hope all of you get your health problems taken care of, and good Lord willin', give everyone a break with the unseasonal weather.
Have a good June twooth! (this year is moving too fast for me)
Sounds like most of us chickens are back in the coop and behaving. Had to giggle about those darn cars acting up for us but NOT the repair man. I was so mad at the one car I had for doing that I actually made a video of the dash, including sound it made, to take next time I went in. Got rid of that car with less than 7,000 on it. When I get a vehicle I love I keep it for 15 years or more & embarrassed my husband because he always had a new one (company car), so surprised me for my birthday, only new like in the state. Sport model & got me a ticket, yes, it did! Wasn't MY fault it was the kind cops watch for........ :o
And so it goes. Bubble, I become a mole & stay inside during summer & know what that temp feels like. Before married I had Civil Service job at near by USAF base, temp got to 118 and NO AC back then, concrete block building with concrete floor. You have my sincere sympathy. Don't know about what you are expecting for the really hot months of July & August but I am dreading what is ahead. We are getting the 80s lately but nights are still 60s. Be thinking of you & wishing cool breezes.
Phyllis, glad you feel better. Would love to get togather & bring all kinds of snacks. The Priest where I got to church brings me Communion on Friday mornings (has others he also visits along the way). I fixed his favorite fruit ice for him to eat on the road. It consists of same number of oranges/juiced to equal number of mashed bananas... sugar to taste & add water & stir every few hours as it freezes. GOOOOD stuff. Also have Mom's chocolate cake that nobody wanted to eat (but me), scratch & uses that cup of cold coffee, then boiling water before dumping into the cake pan. He was happy to take some for the ones that share the parish house with him. Won't be fixing that cake again for a while.
Supposed to have the sons & daughter in law over tomorrow to open the pool & cut grass. All 3 are trying to watch weight so thinking of what to serve them. Guess salad with hard boiled egg & cube of baked salmon, have home made garlic croutons, may need to make some fresh ones. Have 2 large tomatoes that need to be eaten so guess that'll be the meal.
When I baked this last salmon (NW fresh from Alaska) I squeezed lemon over the whole thing after a rub down with olive oil, then used different herbs & spices in different sections so a new flavor in every bite. Turned out pretty good! Still enjoy cooking but gotta have someone come eat!
Tome, sounds like when a squirrel gets too playful on a transformer around here. This week they wired a new pole in so the hour+ power was off, we went shopping. I did turn off some of the clock radios in the house so I don't have to reset them every time.
All that & now to eat & take a nap. Daughter is at the airport to fly home. Enjoy the day, only June 2,2023 we'll have! Looks like that line of thunderstorms might give Wichita a flip of it's tail before heading north. Need the rain!
So far our "scheduled" rain hasn't made an appearance. It's bright and sunny @ 92°. Some broken rain masses moving South toward us but it looks like it will be a hit or miss thing.
Must admit I am glad today is almost over. The day has been busy and I did go get our vehicle back. Nice to have it back but he did find another probelm but that will be dealt with on Tue.
Rick, we didn't get a hint of rain. To the south of us they did get thunder but so far that is it.
Jane, David sent me a photo of you and the young'uns. Oh my what a handful,no more room on your lap!!
Time to say goodnight..I am more than ready to hit the hay..
See you in the morning.
Quote from: Amy on June 02, 2023, 09:10:33 PMRick, we didn't get a hint of rain. To the south of us they did get thunder but so far that is it.
It rained to the left, and it rained to the right, --- but it missed us. Only a few drops on the walk that I could see. So, --- tomorrow I water the grass.
Hey there! We took supper over to Ali's so she didn't have to do that while she was getting her flowers ready for the Farmers Market tomorrow. It was a pretty good supper and fun to be with the kids.
Tomorrow is my last chance for the Farmers Market and tomorrow night daughter Christy will be arriving from Maryland to spend the week with us and then travel back to PA when Cindy takes me home. That's good because she'll help with the driving!
It was HOT out there today but I don't think it was as hot as it was in Israel! And it was 2 degrees hotter back in in PA than it was here in OKLA! I can't imagine that!
Tomereader, you sure had a time with the power failure at your place! That's sure not much fun! And trying to remember which lights are on so you can turn them off before you go to bed isn't an easy job!
AMY, Cindy told me she posted one of the pictures on facebook. That must be the one David sent you! We tried our best to get Mikey to sit in on the picture but he was just plain TOO BUSY! He's so funny! He's still learning his words but he's got "Hi GG" and "Bye GG" down perfectly. And if he's near me when he says the "Bye GG" I also get a hug!
SHIRLEY, cooking is still one of my favorite things to do and my kids call me "The Recipe Lady" because I'm still collecting the recipes and I still like to make new stuff!
PATRICIA, that weather sure is giving you the ups and downs! I bet you're all wishing for summer!
RICK, I think they had the same weather in PA that you had! It was really HOT there!
I'm off to the haystack soon! Have to be up and about so I can enjoy my last trip to the Farmers' Market! Ali's flowers were looking good tonight when we left their house! Can't wait to check her out tomorrow. I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one!
Good morning.
What a difference in weather! The temp is sitting at 56° and a nice breeze is blowing. Good working weather for sure!
Today is laundry and baking after I go for groceries and Kyle for some lumber.
Jane ,yes that is the photo he sent.
Phyllis, hope you are feeling better each day.
Patricia, we are now under a burn ban.
Shirley I haven't forgot about the photo of the hens will get it soon.
Rick, no rain here but starting Mom we are to have rain for a few days.......we will see if that happens. Need rain to plump up the strawberries :)
Better get ready for town.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
 :kitten: :rosegal:
Good evening everyone, well i have been setting in here reading about all the deffernt things that young, Ladie dose building her house here self and the garding, and taking her harvest,s to the market, she has a large woven Basket, she puts on her back with sholder straps. she filles it with defferant things and walks to the market, fiends her self place to set down and display here produce or what ever, and seels it. when she is sold out,, she picks up her basket and puts her scales and equipmet in her Basket, and goes and gets something to eat. and then goes and buys her self a a swetter or somenthing. and walks home, on her little farm she raises chickens turkies ducks and hogs. her place is on the banks of the river. she built her self a watter wheeil. and fixe it to pump watter to here house, thurgh a pipeline she bult. she is quite a nice little tough Ladie.

Our temp Is 66º and clear blue skay's
Lliyd
I love reading about people that build things from scratch, Lloyd. Had the books about a lady that built her house in the woods, had a German Shepherd as a companion, loved how she managed to get things done with just the 2 of them. Don't have the books anymore, loaned them to someone & never got back. Tough that we can't really do all those things ourselves anymore. I am thankful to be still living on my own as you & Nancy are doing. We would be "holy terrors" in a retirement home! I already found out God isn't ready for me so we will just do what we must and try to set a good example for our kids and grandkids. Okay?
On that note, will say sweet dreams and God Bless to all. The fireworks of the River Festival will start about 10:00 but like last night, I will not even look to see if any show above the trees. Where they shoot the fireworks is just down river a couple bends and easy to see everything 33 years ago when we moved here. Now the river below me has lots of trees the beavers haven't gotten to yet. I grew up being able to watch the fireworks of the Mo State Fair being shot off every night from my bedroom window so a nice sound to me. Love y'all. Tisie/Shirley
Good morning..
Starting out at 47° and heading to mid 70's today..I can live with that. A day of rest here and a welcomed one at that. In a few minutes I will go out and water the garden.
Jane, where are you??
Shirley, people like that reminds me of this saying.
. A woman is like a tea bag - you can't tell how strong she is until you put her in hot water. Eleanor Roosevelt.
Bubble, I sure hope it has cooled off there.
Patricia, the east coast did get a reprieve with a rain. Not as many fires buring but a lot of homes lost. :(
Better get ready to meet the day.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend! The Soda Shoppe was almost as busy yesterday as it was around here. First off, we grabbed our breakfast and heading for the Farmers Market. It was my last one to see Ali in her flower booth. She did well yesterday but had a few leftovers. I forget what it is she does with the leftovers but there's a place that buys them from her and then resells them.
I bought some stuff to take home and then we took off and did some shopping to get ready for Christy's visit! There were some cancellations and she had long waits in airports along the way and never arrived in Tulsa until 1:30 a.m! She was supposed to be there a little before 11 p.m. So guess who is still sleeping!
I was awake to greet her when she got here and then right back to sleep!
We had thunderstorms all night so I guess we'll have long grass and lots of flowers and the creeks and rivers might be aflow once again! It's been a pretty dry summer so far!
I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!
Good morning to all who might pass through. we're starting the day at 56°, sunny and bright. The rain missed us and it doesn't look like we are due for any for another week.
Seems liker a quiet morning around here. None of the usual traffic noise. Must be a good morning for sleeping in.
Quote from: Amy on June 04, 2023, 07:00:49 AM
Bubble, I sure hope it has cooled off there.
Hard to Believe: we had thunders for half an hour before there was a sudden downpour of 10 minutes. That is unheard of after Easter! Then a power failure due to the overuse of electricity for a/c. Luckily it was back after a short time.
I suppose the rain came from USA? LOL
Today we have more normal temperature but prédictions are for a return of the same next week end.
I hate the a/c so it gets turned on only when Illy is here. I can live with the heat, after all I was born on the African equator.
Amy, the entire world seems to be either burning, exploding, or freezing. One day last week, we had three alerts running, one for floods, one for fires, and one for snow!
Now they're posting signs warning drivers not to drive through low-lying flooded areas because people are going through them! You'd think people knew better, but we don't seem to retain many survival instincts as a group!
I'm sorry about the burning Canadians have from one end to another.
The rain has stopped here since Friday, but we still have dark clouds as the passing weather system moves into the Yukon.
I was out yesterday wandering the shops and giving away my money. I managed to get everything paid and funded for another month, but something is always forgotten. In this case, it was coffee and filters. I forgot to put it on my list; if it's not listed, I never remember!
I did see a couple of robins and one hawk but other than the usual pigeons, not much else.
Shirley, my sister, is revamping her house, the contractors did the heavy work, and now she is putting up trim, painting, wallpapering, furniture recovering, and building shelving. She'd planned to sell and return to Portland, but that wasn't going to happen, so she's redoing her house and yard.
She's ten years younger, making me jealous of her skills and stamina. When she was younger and bought her first vehicle, a red Chevy love truck, she reupholstered the entire cab area in red gingham!
Bubble, I'd love to have some of that heat! Locally forecasters are saying it will be a cool, wetter summer. We're getting our weather from Siberia and passing it along through Canada. On the other side of the mountains, the state's Southeast has an entirely different weather system.
Patricia,we are seeing smoke and a lot of it!!Not sure the cause of the smoke though. We are in a no burning ban but one has to read and comprehend those words. Cottagers/city people don't think that it applies to them.
Unfortunately, everything I've been able to pull up online is more about how it's affecting the US than the Canadians.
I did find this interactive map, https://firesmoke.ca/forecasts/current/
Patricia, the neighbor took a drive and said the smoke was coming from the other end of the lake, let's hope it soon dissipates. Sure hope we get rain..
Thank you for the map.
Bubble, have you ever put down, paper or computer, the story of your life? Whatever incident pops into your head just put your age at the top so later you can put it in chronological order. We all need to think about doing that so the generations can see what life was really like and what made us who we are. I had so many questions as I worked putting Mother's in order, so she explained, filled in the blanks how they built the ice house to store meats durning the summer, bringing slabs of ice from the river. Kept the butter cool in the dippers of the well, how they made cheese how thoughtful friends were when the little girls got wet on their long walk to school, taking them in to dry off before sending them on. She remembered a life of love and hard work with lots of reasons she could have been bitter. And, NO, I have not done this yet!
Patricia, I think the little rain we got this week has helped fire danger. We are in a real dry period so concerned about anything burning.
Like your quote about women, Amy, never heard that one before.
Rick, like you, not enough rain so anything that comes out of the hose is "high dollar" city water & it is high here. Speaking of high, been pricing the 3" chlorine tablets for the pool & they are out of sight! Had to order a couple new floaters & brush for the pool so far, but expecting motor & pump will be needed before summer is over. I tried to get the darn pool filled in when we first bought but would have been near impossible, so I just gripe.
Jane, I'm still dreaming of that field of flowers and what a neat thing to do. Glad you've had a good visit and sure you are just a tad eager to see the family back home. Safe trip.
I'm off to bed so sweet dreams to all and God Bless. Love y'all.......Tisie/Shirley
Shirley, I started writing "life episodes" about 15 to 20 years ago but after a few years I lost the mood and now I am much too lazy to continue. There are better stories to be found on line or in print!
Ahhh, Bubble, but none better to the family than one written by an older member. ;) I am still working on fixing my e-mail & the "other" way to communicate but everyday life is keeping me busy. Must get some muscles built up. Still hope the day will come I take off in that motorhome to "see the USA". As long as it sits in the driveway "I can dream, can't I?"
Good Monday morning to all. Hope the day is as special as can be for each of you.
Good morning..
Still hazy outside, I would imagine it is much worse out west and down east.
Stopping at the garage this morning to see how long the job will be tomorrow, maybe I can just wait it out there. Then home to chase dust kangaroos.
Still no rain here, trees are whistle ling dor the dogs to come by.
Shirley, I wanted my friend to write or even record his life, before war and after but he also let it go. Said some of the horrors in the war were best left unsaid.
Better get a move on before the heat of the day catches up.....
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend! It's still a bit hazy out there but heading for a high of 89 today! It's gonna be HOT!
Yesterday we went over to Ali and Dan's for supper. We took scalloped potatoes and fresh green beans to cook and Dan made the BEST ribs on the grill that I think I've ever had! He worked on them all afternoon and when we ate it was like heaven! It's been a long time since I had ribs. In fact, I cant remember when the last time was! I don't make them myself!
And the kids were great! Altogether, it was a good day. But boy was I tired when it was over!
During the day, some things came up about family and I did some "memories" for them. Dan seemed interested in separating which side was which! He's a pretty neat guy and I'm very happy for Ali and the kids!
I guess I better get on my horse and get something done. I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!
Good morning, everyone; I'm in a perfect mood today with a low right now of fifty-five and our expected high of seventy-four, all with cloudless sunny skies. I'm hoping all that rain and cooler weather we sent to the Yukon makes its way further into Canada and does some good.
Bubble, I wrote some of my memories down in college when it was a required assignment in two separate classes. The first was keeping a daily journal read to the class if the teacher chose yours. I suspect most of ours were like those other peoples' Christmas letters.
The second was the most challenging assignment I've ever had, made more complicated by thinking it would be easy. The assignment was to take a memory from the day before and make it into a poem or saga for extra credit. I was happy when both classes moved on to other assignments.
Amy, I hope your van issues will soon be solved. I know it must be difficult and frustrating when you need transport.
Jane, I think you would have earned extra credit in either of my two classes as I don't believe you've ever slowed down, and what lovely close families you and Amy have!
Bubble, you have lived through some historical times, but life never seems that exciting when it's ours.
Many years ago, for no reason I can ascertain I ceased to be active in Seniors And Friends, although I never lost interest in the activities of all the friends I made. Now I am back for better or worse assuming you are the same loving and caring group that I came to know and love so many years ago. I have maintained contact with Bubble and have made several visits to Israel, although that is no longer an option due to my declining years; but Seniors and Friends will always be the link.
I will leave you for now and bring you up to date later.
Don.
Don...
... good seeing you back...you have been away far too long...dont be a stranger...
Don, i have posted something for you in ( Classical )
Jackie ( UK )
Don, --- Welcome back. I'm sure everyone missed your posts. We're still the same group, though maybe a bit smaller.
Another WELCOME BACK, DON, from Tisie/Shirley in Kansas. Just rejoice in the ones that can make it in here. You have been missed but I ask Bubble about you & hope for the best for all of us.
My son called while ago asking how bad the hail was at my house... not even a drop of rain. They got pounded and then pouring rain (I am jealous). I have a few lazy drops hitting the pool water. They only live a couple miles from me.
Opened the pool yesterday & is looking pretty sky blue already, such a pain in the neck. I tell myself a flower garden that size would be a lot of work. Since I take my oxygen into the shower with me I guess I could get in the pool but haven't been in but a few times in the 35 years living here. I could go on complaining about the prices of chemicals but will shut up.
I was just going to read this time but I have to post to say WELCOME BACK, DON! YOU HAVE BEEN MISSED! In fact, I think of you even when I'm not on this website. Every time I see a picture of Santa, I think of you! Don't go away again!
We had Ali and the kids over here for lunch and then when she went home to put the little guys in for naps, Cindy and Christy and I went shopping for a bit! When we got back, I did a short walk outside and came back sweating! It's HOT out there!
Now I'm going to go sit outside in the shade and probably let my eyes droop! Keep on keeping on Everyfriend! I'll "see" y'all later!
Welcome back Don! I hope your air quality is better than it is north of you.
Jane, sent you an email .
Patricia, I must admit that I hope the repairs will be the last for a while. We head to the city for two appointments on Wed. I was to go again on Thur but my friend rescheduled to next Thur.
Good morning..
Still smokey outside and no rain during the night.
Taking the van in and will wait for it then home to do what didn't get done yesterday.
Jenny, where are you?
Bubble, how is the weather in your part of the world?
Patricia, better share all that rain you are going to get for the rest of the month. We will take some for you. :)
Enjoy your day and stay safe..
I'm up, nice & cool here by the door but must eat before going back to sleep. Hope to get things done better today.
Jenny, my boys will be heading back to the mountains this next week. Andy goes out a few days ahead of their reservation to see if one of the non-reservable sites empty in hopes of trading. Usually the camp host is nice about that & always someone eager to use that one they reserved. After this many years they have favorite spots leading the the creek or to the land across the road where all the dead trees are ready to be used for firewood. Each of them has the battery pack saws & having a fire at night is what camping is all about. I will be with them in spirit & they will send photos.
Better get busy, about to fall asleep sitting. Have a great day where ever you are. Sure hope you cool down, Bubble, I'm with you about not liking AC but I can't take the heat.
Thank you for your warm welcome. I won't leave you again
Don, what a pleasure to see your name crop up in here and to read your nice message. You were definitely not forgotten but you were missed. Hope you can come in and tell us how you are doing often.
Hi, Jackie. Are you doing OK?
Shirley, I miss going to the mountains, too. I have missed living there in Loveland, CO., 70 years ago. Always wished I could go back for more than an occasional family visit or event. And, when we moved to North Carolina, Tom and I went to the Blue Ridge Mtns. every chance we got. Now Tom is gone and I am too old to travel but, I still have a whole trunkful of memories of those wonderful times.
Hazy here today and we are under an air quality warning. I doubt if we are getting smoke from Canada but perhaps the Virginia and eastern wildfires are affecting us today. And it is hot and very humid, as well. Whatever.....it makes my breathing hard so I am trying to take things slowly, rest a lot, and stay inside like they tell us to. My asthma level is kind of high and I've already used the inhaler the number of times that I am allowed to. But enough excuses for being my lazy self. David and I just finished folding the household laundry so hopefully that chore is finished for this week. Unless I think of something else that needs to be washed.
Lunch time so I'll just say....
Take care, All.
Phyllis..
...thank you for asking, i am doing whatever it takes to survive, re, my auto immune disease...
It is always good to see a posting from you... :)
Repairs are done and now my wallet is starving!! Good to not have to worry about the van now.
Phyllis, air quality here has gotten worse ,it is now making my eyes water. Kyle also has lung problems and this smoke is no help. We now have another fire to the north and winds are high so goodness knows when the firefighters will get it out. Now there is a total fire ban on in all the townships.
Jackie, after I posted I also was thinking about you & how you are doing. I admire your go get 'em attitude!
Phyllis, I have a gr-daughter that lives "in your neck of the woods" but keep forgetting what town/city they are in. She & husband both work for Boeing & needed to be in D.C. area. They have a huge house with plenty of room for 2 kids to grow up & play inside during these covid years, also a park in front of their house. My daughter is flying out to see them next week, been nearly a year & while the oldest of the 2 kids(7) knows how to "facetime", not like hugs & kisses. Daughter was always a working mom but managed to be available when each of her grands born so really bonded with them & they her.
Okay, past noon & have a list of things I hoped to get done before. Only thing done was trimmed my hair, shower & dress. Have a great day, pool is sparkling already & amazes my son that I use no shock or any chemicals except the floating chlorine tablets. Last year I spent hundreds of dollars because I had the water analyzed at 2 different pool places, bought all the chemicals each said (water looked awful after the first batch)... fought most of the summer until I got all that stuff out. Hopefully it won't need a lot of work this summer 'cause I ain't got a lot of steam to work with it. Pool service means being here to unlock gates or giving keys to someone that does pools & trustworty to lock up when done. We do have quite a few kids in the area now & would hate for one to get in & drown. I really do gripe a lot about this, don't I?
Oops, you popped in, Amy. Sorry about the smoke problems. Glad the vehicle is running & know what you mean about your wallet starving. I insist on paying my sons for the extras they do & never realized how much money I was saving my husband & self!!! They all try to refuse so I just explain I will hire the jobs done & they know it won't be done right. And they know I will do it.
What used to be a 45 or 50 dollar trip to the mechanic is now 450 or 500. The only thing that doesn't go up is Pensions (at least not some)
Good Afternoon Everyfriend! It was so nice to stop in here and find so many of you making use of the Soda Shoppe!
I had just opened up this morning and the kids and Ali showed up so I had to close up and go play! Ali left to go do some errands and when she came back she had some lunch, a bit of chatter, some play time and left in time to get the boys in bed around 2 p.m.
She was hardly out of the driveway when Cindy looked in my direction and said, "Christy wants to go shopping. Are you ready to go?" I told her to give me 5 minutes and I'd be ready. We've been back about a half hour now.
As I said before, It wa so nice to see all ou you milling around in the Soda Shoppe....SHIRLEY, ANY, PHYLLIS, PATRICIA, JACKIE, RICK....If I missed anyone, I'm sorry! I love you all and when you're not around, I miss you! Enjoy the rest of your day!
Jane, --- I don't know if you caught it or not, but Don Reid has posted a couple of times. If it wasn't here, it might have been in Norm's B&T.
Rick, I would love a bill like that but the one part was $499.00 !! Being where we are we do need a vehicle plus due to my husbands health we need a reliable one. Before the Drs pin pointed his problem we were at emerg all hours of the night. Then on the road to the city for chemo treatments plus he has no immune system due to meds. I always keep my vehicle gassed and ready to go. That said, life is good!
Jane, David is off to Wisconsin,I was just talking with him and forgot to tell him that the cheese, especially the smoked cheese is so good from there!! Friends went down to a fly in one year and brought us back some, never forgot the taste!
Shirley, I am happy when problems are outside the house, eg car, machinery etc. It is when they come in to us( health) that I am not happy.
No need for a shower tonight, while trying to get the hose and sprinkler hooked up it sprayed all over me. :2funny:
We also have an air quality warning. Said to be from the fires in Canada. When I looked out earlier I could see a haze. The Baseball Game looks unclear (On TV), and it is the air quality doing it, Unusual for here.
Amy,
That grand Ole Smoked Swiss is a must :) BUY it all the time from Wisconsin and/or can get some of that made 3 miles from me at Prairie Farms :)
Mycheal
Jane...
...we have our Radioman back ( Don )
Good morning..
Another hazy/smokey day out. We are off to the city for appointments . Will pick up a few things for us and friends while there and then scoot home. Dogs are going to be mad at us as they are staying home with the neighbour looking after them. Guess we will be the ones in the dog house when we come home.
mycheal, thank you ,will tell my son about it. I know we thoroughly enjoyed what our friends brought back. Not sure where in Wisconsin he is going but I am sure he will be on the lookout for the cheese.
Rick, I can't imagine how those closer to the fires are dealing with the air quality. They are suggesting those with breathing problems and elderly to wear N95 masks. I don't know if there is any correlation to the smoke and wild life but yesterday 3 birds were hit on th highway on my way into town. You may see one, once in a while but I counted the 3.
Better get my city duds on ..
Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Thanks for the reminder RICK and JACKIE but I already greeted DON and yesterday I was only greeting those who were there that day and only since the last time I was in! I was happy to see DON and I will be happy to see him any time he stops by!
AMY, I'm with you! I'd rather have the car break down than someone inside the house break down!
Now I'm heading for breakfast! I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!
Hello, I've been reading posts but just can't seem to find that Round Tuit to respond. Sorry. :-[
I clicked "Like" on Don's post. Glad to see you again.
Jane, sounds as if you're having a great time in Oklahoma! Loved the picture of the kids. Have you ever been to the Aquarium there? It's amazing.
We're under an Air Quality Alert this week. Not from smoke, though. Weather gurus give more of an explanation about humidity/temperature/fronts coming through than I can keep up with. I just look out the window and go from there. :)
Miss Ellen works at a clothing store near Times Square. She posted a Facebook video of the sky over Times Square at 2:oo p.m. this afternoon. It was solid yellow! She said it was scary and that she's been wearing an N95 mask even inside at work. She's also a Nanny for 3-year-old twins and I'm guessing they are NOT going to the park.
Trying to do laundry and desk work. Dryer is "yoo-hooing" so I'd better get back at it.
Hope Everyfriend is having a Wonderful Wednesday.
The day went well, picked up groceries for friends and us. Now I have made myself more work, need to cook up and freeze the ground meat for the dogs.
Jane love the photo!! You will have a heart full of memories when you come home.
mycheal, talked with son and told him about the cheese..
good evening everyone, well it Is 82º, and sun is gone down, Mostly cloudy.well I have some bad newse, to tell you all. I do have a lots of friends here and do love and enjoy theme, but the pain I have all the time I will be glad when god calles My Number. Have a good rest of the Day.
Lloyd
Lloyd, I had a teacher like yours, lived to over 100 & special to me. For several years I promised myself I was going to find where she lived so I could tell her how much she meant to me... put if off & finally found time when visiting my parents to go see her & her obit was in the paper. Hope your teacher & mine see we did care. In my world I believe she will know you took time to come to her funeral. Sincere sympathy for the sadness you are feeling.
And now, boys & girls, past bedtime so wishing all sweet dreams and God Bless. Our world sure is having belly aches with volcanoes, smoke & the dust. Pray for a better tomorrow.
Good morning..
We did get rain....not enough to fill a thimble or wet the ground, maybe today more will come??
Kyle ran out of lumber so into town we go then home to work. The hamburg will get cooked and I think frozen not canned, well that is my plan so far. The celery bottoms that were put in water and now have roots and need to be put in the soil.
Better shake a leg and get moving.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend! I had two doggies in my bedroom to help me welcome the morning. I always know when they are up and about that Cindy and Jim are also up and about and I can go get my coffee.
Christy just came by and gave me a good morning kiss so we are all up!
AMY, I was sitting on Ali's porch waiting for supper the other day and playing with Cam and I noticed that sitting right in front of me was a beautiful white TRUG! I asked Ali if she knew what that was called and she shrugged and said "A flower thingy?" I told her it was a TRUG and that I know someone who has made and sold hundreds of them! She now calls it her "flower trug"! I took a picture and when I get to it, I'll send it to you.
CALLIE, We went to the aquarium the last time I was here and the kids loved it! So did the adults! This year we're going down to see the elephants! The info says they're from India and a bit smaller than the African ones. They have a place that you can actually pet them. We're going to take Emma with us! I bet she's going to be thrilled!
I guess I better finish my coffee, grab a bite to eat and get back upstairs to take my shower. I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!
We are still having trouble breathing. David will wear the N95 mask when he goes to pick up the grocery order. The local radio/tv news keeps warning older and lung compromised people to stay inside or wear a mask if they have to be out. They are saying that it might be next week before all the smoke is gone. I texted my younger son in Virginia because he and my older grandson are asmatics, also, and my grandson works as ground crew at an airport and has to be outside most of the time. My son texted back they are doing fine but being careful and staying inside most of the time. I haven't been outside at all for 3 or 4 days but it still bothers me.
Shirley, add ozone from heavy traffic to your list of things that are making breathing hard. I live near 3 very busy highways and on humid days (it is up to somewhere in the 90 percent here today) the air can be really hazy and smells bad. And it used to be that we could enjoy nice fresh air here........no longer. I might as well have stayed in Los Angeles!
Hope everyone here is OK. Take care, All.
Lloyd was gallivanting over in photos this morning..

Lloyd
No more work for me for today! Cooked 15 lbs of ground round for the dogs, vacuumed sealed that, a rack of ribs with bbq sauce slow cooked and will seal those in the morning a piece of peameal bacon and will slice and seal in the morning. Phew!
Jane, sent you email with more photos of trugs.
Phyllis, today is a better day for us but still wary of what may come. I found this stings my eyes if out for any length of time. We all will be thankful to be able to breath clean air again!
Patricia, did you get the rain? We had about 6 drops this morning so I hauled out the hose and watered the garden. Not as good as rain water but no chemiclas in it like city water.
Amy, the rains are due to return on the 18th, a change from the previous forecast of rain returning this coming Tuesday. We had 81 and 83 the past two days, but last night we had a sudden cloudburst that drenched everything for 20 minutes. The weather is very depressing. Although I'm sure I don't have to tell you that.
well I am having trouble trying to get on Line it it telling me to go interduce my self and re regeaster ?
Lloyd
Good morning..
Beautiful morning as I see the ground is wet! Not sure if it is still raining but nice to see we did get some.
Finishing off what I started yesterday in getting the meat frozen.Since the day was cold I made use of the oven and after the meat was cooked in went an apple pie. Put some in the hidey hole for you to enjoy.
Sure hope the air soon clears.
Patricia, hope the weather changes to sunny days for you.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good morning everyone, Amy, I'm afraid today is going to be another rainy day.
As I understand it, the atmospheric rivers in our upper atmosphere have looped, further down, causing certain types of weather and temperatures to stay in one place rather than following usual patterns. El Nino, La Nina and the jet stream are the most well-known of these atmospheric air rivers.
Since I don't check into this discussion often, I see I missed your posts Don. Please come chat again soon.
Patricia, on our way to the city, we cross a bridge that usually has raging waters. We checked it out as we crossed and rocks are appearing where water cascaded over.
Air quality is better today..
Good morning..
Overcast and starting out at 50°, we did get a bit more rain yeasterday bringing the rain barrel up a couple more inches. Some is better than none!
Kyle just mentioned we missed the full moon with all the smoke in the air.
Work around home today, plus planting the 4 tomato plants I couldn't say no to and a goldfish stem that has now rooted.
Jane have a safe trip back home..
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Amy, what is a goldfish stem?
Good morning; it's 53 and sunny presently, but that can change on a dime these days.
Phyllis, I, too, was curious, and this is what I found,
https://duckduckgo.com/?q=goldfish+stem&atb=v368-1&ia=web
How interesting! I've never heard of it and never seen one...that I know of.
Patricia, thank you..
Phyllis, I had bought a goldfish plant only to have a stem break off, not wanting to throw it in the garbage I put it in water and it rooted! Then I read on how to do it properly. :)
https://whyfarmit.com/goldfish-plant-propagation/
Laundry on line and now to bake cookies, only two left in the container :( Chocolate chip works for me :)
Chocolate chip cookies are in the hidey hole....I like mine with a tall glass of cold milk. :)
I am crying BIG OL CROCODILE TEARS 😭
As many know I have not posted recently so I wrote one of my longest posts ever......commenting on so many interesting things you all have been talking about. I was rushing to get it posted as I needed to get ready to go to a BBQ with Dr. Dave and Family.
I do not know what key I hit but poof.....my post was GONE. I did everything to see if I could retrieve it to no avail😩😢 I literally cried😢
Now I am back home and just do not have it in me to try to rewrite my thoughts again. I did try to comment to all of you....
I must say, WELCOME BACK RADIOMAN‼️ So good to see you posting DON. Please keep posting as you have been missed🥰
JANE, I am feeling sad that it is time for you to return home. It seems you have beef having such a delightful time there with your family❣️ That being said.....maybe you are looking forward to a well deserved rest🥰🥰.
PATRICIA, we have been having so much rain here. I can never complain about well needed moisture HOWEVER we are having flood warnings nearly every day here in our area. It has pretty much drowned out all of my beautiful potted flowers. No time between rain/hail storms for them to dry out a bit😢😢 I bought a beautiful new hummingbird feeder....hung it over a flower pot that had the healthiest planted flowers I have in it. Mr. Raccoon 🦝 spotted it.....got up into the pot crushing ALL of my beautiful flowers and bending all the metal on the beautiful glass feeder. I was thankful it did not go over and break the glass.....as it sure could have😢😩
On that note I must say good night . I need to fix us a bit of dinner.....vegetables will be the main course‼️
Feeling sad that you can not join your sons here in Colorado, SHIRLEY🥰🥰
Miss you ALL and I want you to know I enjoyed reading each and ever one of your posts‼️
Jenny
Andy just called and already singing about being in Colorado. He told about the changes along the highway since last year and bragged about what great gas mileage he is getting in his new truck. Had a super head wind so surprised. He & brother, Pete, both have new trucks but different brands & of course each got all the gadgets & know how to make the most of them.
Jenny, I've lost too many posts like that & send big hugs of comfort. I didn't realize you had lots of rain "out there", was concerned about it being too dry for camp fires. Too bad you can't move the pots of flowers in a cluster & put an patio umbrella over them.
I have a large pole/walking stick in the middle of the trug to tie down a clear plastic shower curtain for when hail or lots of rain predicted. So far lettuce & spinach only about an inch out of the ground.
My local Kroger's store had strawberries & black grapes on sale today so I ventured out. Only my 2nd solo trip & don't have all the kinks worked out. Struggled to get the hose from battery pack to my nose, seat belt & even remember how to operate the car so was not at all surprised when my twisting gave me a warning that a rib didn't like what I did. Not the first time to crack a rib but more than 10 years since the last time & kinda forgot how often it will remind you it's not happy!
My battery pack is not what you see on TV, was explained to me that I'd use up in 20 min how they operate so I will get used to this one. I do have the canister type on wheels to pull around the pool but not quite comfy with how it works. Whine, whine........
Phyllis, my daughter says the air is okay, think she said "Falls Church", kids playing soccer games, etc. Sent photos of the kids & I'm stunned how grown up they look since I saw them last year! Both kids inherited the long legs that we sure didn't have in MY side. My daughter's daughter is honestly a head taller than me & daughter.
Jane, mixed emotions about going home but bet your home family will be eager to welcome you back. Happy memories to remember till the next time. I'm happy for you that you got this trip in.
Patricia, thanks for that link, I've never heard of that plant before.
Amy, tell Kyle I totally forgot about the full moon & usually like to try to photo to see if I see a slightly different angle as other months & years. Don't think anyone but me uses a camera anymore but just don't get the zoom on the phone cameras. Times change, my brain doesn't but the body has!
Dark out so time to say... Sweet dreams & God Bless, Love y'all.... Tisie/Shirley
The map is showing that we are on the edge of the Orange air quality alert today. Temps to get up close to 90o today, cooler tomorrow with rain. Hope that helps. One good thing though, I haven't had to mow the lawn this past week.
My upstairs toilet started acting up yesterday, I suspect because water pressure has been low this past week. If it doesn't clear on its own, I will have to call the plumber. I spent last night on the sofa so I didn't have to go down two flights of stairs to use the basement toilet. I had trouble sleeping, but the cats let me sleep an extra hour this morning before pesting for breakfast.
It has been pretty quiet around here lately. My sister and I did go out to lunch on Thursday and went to view an apartment. The complex is one I lived in the early 70's when it was new. It is still run by the same management company and has been maintained in excellent condition this whole time. The company manages several apartment complexes in the area and at least two more of those are at the top of my list to check into. The newest apartment complexes that have been built or are being built all look pretty much the same, cheap junk. In fact, my sister heard from one of her friend's that one of the new ones already had lots of squeaky floorboards both in the apartments and in public areas. Well, that is what happens when people use improperly seasoned and prepared wood. It probably shouldn't be a surprise since contractors were (still are?) having problems getting good construction materials in a timely manner.
Well, time to go get breakfast and see what kind of stuff I can get into today. One thing I am in the process of doing is getting some programs installed into my laptop after I switched from Windows 11 in S mode to just plain Windows 11. I still need to change the bios in order to get some of my favorite Windows 10 compatible programs installed. I may go back to Firefox browser or work with Opera instead of Bing and MS Edge. I resent Microsoft trying to box me into using only their products or approved products. I hate the feeling that I am being herded or not being allowed to may my own decisions.
MarsGal, - I agree with your feelings about M$. I'll be sticking with 10 as long as possible.
Hello Everyfriend from Pennsylvania! We made it here safely and now I have a ton of stuff to put away. Frankie cleaned my house for me while I was gone and she did a great job. It shines...even in the corners!
I read everything everyone wrote and found lots of interesting posts but since I still have company and a ton of stuff to put away, I'm not commenting on them. All I'm going to say is that it was a good visit in OKLA and I'm glad to be back with the home folks.
I'll be back sometime. I'm not sure when because Cindy will be here all week and Christy is here until tomorrow! I'm sure Frankie and Cooper will be showing up and sooner or later, my son, his wife and daughter will show.
I wish you a good rest of the day and and a good night. I'll be back as soon as I can!
Today has been a busy but fun day. Nice to meet and catch up with friends. Tomorrow we are off to the kids for a visit.
Jane, glad you are home safe and sound...
Don! Welcome back!
Of course I haven't forgotten you. Nobody could forget you. And often a piece of music will remind me of all the good conversations we had and how much I learned from you. Do keep us informed.
Good morning
What a lovely sound the rain makes! One can only hope those with the wildfires in their area are also benefitting from it also.My friends grandson in Alberta was evacuated from their home, just got back and now evacuated again. Fire ,water ,wind and ice obey no one.
We are off to the kids this morning for a visit and a special delivery. Dogs have to stay home on this trip. :( Glad I picked the rhubarb last night and not have to do it in the rain.
Better get going.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning AMY and anyone else who stops by. I have to go get a shower and get dressed and be ready when Christy is. She's doing some planting for me and we have to go hit the Amish greenhouse this morning to get some plants.
AMY, have a safe trip and tell David I said "HI"! Drive carefully!
I wish everyone a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!
Hope you and yours did not have to get home by I-95. That was an awful collapse. Bet it will be a good while before they get that rebuilt.
good Morning everyone. It is 66º and mostly cloudy here now. I shure am missing our dear friend, that went to heaven at 103 years of age. I am 85 years, hurting head to toes.I sure wish God would call my # any time, life is not fun any more for the most Part. Have a good day.
Lloyd
Hello all:
Hot hazy and humid pretty well sums up our weather around here.
I have been away for so long I reckon most of you have forgotten my vital statistics so I'll bring you up to date now. I live in London Ontario Canada and I'm 88 years old. I live in a retirement home now. My sons were instrumental in bringing that into effect although I didn'need much prompting. Probably the deciding factor was when I lost my drivers licence. Anyway, I made the move and I'm glad I did. I spend most of my time watching tv although I am trying to develop other interests. Fortunately I'm in reasonable good health.
That's pretty well my life story such as it is. I have to say I am inspired by this forum and those who make it such an inspired site. Anyway, I shall leave now and write again when the spirit moves me.
Don, I was wondering if you hung around London, Ontario, after you "Retired" from the X. Hope the smoke from those fires isn't bothering you.
Rain is still gracing the ground!! Took a peek at the rainbarrel and water is almost to the top!!
Had a fun visit with the kids and critters. Luna is 90 lbs while Skye is 160 lbs Skye is a rescue Great Dane while Luna is part Great Dane and Great Pyrenees. Both of our dogs read us like a news paper, knowing that we had pet ,hugged other dogs!
Had to give the furnace a bump just to get the dampness out.
Don, good to see you ,We are experiancing rain and will have all week so they say. Air quality is much nicer but fires are still burning to the west, north and east.
Good Morning Everyfriend! I wish you all a great day!
Christy and her husband will be leaving this morning and Frankie will be off to work. Cindy spent the night with her best friend from "way back" because they are going out strawberry picking this morning! I don't know when I'll see her.
The coffee's ready and I'm ready with breakfast as soo as feet hit the floor! Have a great day!
Good morning..
Just before going to bed the rain pounded down, the ground should be well soaked by now. Just hope the rain put out some of the fires burning. Kyle goes for blood work this morning then home to work.
Jane, your strawberries are earlier than ours and oh my how good they will taste!! Told David you said hi and he will soon be on his way south.
Patricia, are you getting the rain?
Better shake a leg and get ready to meet the day.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Rain, --- rain? We just got the tail of the "promised" rain. Just a few dribbles. Will need some artificial rain on the grass later.
Good Night Everyfriend! Wherever you are!
For Amy

Good morning..
Another nice day in the making. A trip to town to pick up meds then home to???
Checked the garden after the rain and it is looking good other than the parsnips :( I know they do take longer to germinate .
Bubble, thank you for posting the photos . I did try but it said they were too big. I appreciate your help.
Shirley, how is your garden coming along? Gardening in a trug/raised bed is much easier than bending waaaayy down.
Jane, was Cooper happy to see you?
Rick we are to get more rain tomorrow, hope you do get some your way. I have used well water when we didn't have a choice but rain water is much warmer.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend! So far, I haven't had to water anything Christy planted for me. We've been having lovely, soft rainshowers every night. Today's night shower came into the day but it's just a nice, soft one!
When Cooper and I got back from our walk, we got out the stuff to make "J.E.Ts". Frankie brought over a dozen eggs that she had in her fridge and wasn't going to use so I have lots of eggs for his project.
AMY, Cooper was all over me the first time he saw me but then his Granny Christy was here and she got most of the attention. Then his Mama showed up after work and I slipped into third place. Christy is gone home and Frankie is working so I'm first until she gets home from work!
Cindy wants to make a trip to Davy's and to a local meat market called "Fisher's". They've been around for ages and they have the best meat in the area. They buy for a couple of local farmers. About a year ago, they had a sign up that they would be closing right after the holidays (about 4 months) and they got so much flak from the customers that it only took them about 10 days to change their minds. They have a son coming on and Butch told me that when he and his wife retired, his son didn't think he wanted to go on. With all the flak, he decided it was a pretty good place to be.
I wish evryfriend (especially our returned friend, Don) a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!
WE had a good rain last night, looks like an inch, so don't need to add water to the pool or yard or trug. Even the thunder sounded good to me. Much to do the next few days but today is mine, starting off with a shower, wash my hair, and oil up this dry skin.
Amy, love the photos of the chickens and really would enjoy having some but know how much daily work they are. Thanks for showing them over in Photos.
Jane, always envy you the great places you have to shop.
Better get rolling so I can fit in a nap later. My 2-3 hour sleep sessions are just a bad habit I need to break. I can go to sleep fast & BACK to sleep fast, but always been a light sleeper.
Wishing all a great day, right now it couldn't look better out my door, no wind, cool and sun shining bright.
Good morning; I've been chastised at another forum for talking about the weather, and if I didn't like it, why haven't I moved? Besides no longer posting there, I'm sure others don't want to hear about the shared similarities of my day-to-day.
Construction started, and it is everywhere, with roads dug up to be widened or new stoplights, sidewalks, and light poles installed. Elsewhere rivers on the way through town are getting new work done on bridges, landings, and parking lots. It's all part of a multiyear renewal; the heavy part is seemingly behind us and shifting to the city's outer areas.
Today, we're hosting a dollar sale in the first-floor community room, and I'm planning a yard sale tour with a group of friends this weekend. I saw a black rabbit yesterday, and they are from an escaped group some ten years ago. The usual locals are Alaskan hares and the snowshoe hares.
We used to see many rabbits, foxes, and other small animals, even a porcupine walking down Third Avenue once, but as the city's progressed, we no longer see the wildlife we once did. So, other than moose, in the creeks and hollows, rabbits are about all we see now inside city limits.
Shirley, you're welcome. I do understand as I would also like some but am content on watching and listening to the neighbours. You still have to water, feed and take care of them even when they are off their laying.
Patricia, have fun at the sale! One never knows what you can glean that you need from it.There are many sayings about seasons here and one is we have winter and construction..seems to be fitting for all places.
Rain has stopped for the time being.
Amy can I quote you on that? Its very fitting!
The dollar sale items aren't always a dollar but they're low. I'm going to be on the lookout for one woman who always has preserves, baked goods and cookies. She's careful to keep people's dietary needs in mind and always labels.
The other items are normally cast-off appliances, books, etc.
We used to have a man who did lightening sketches of folks for five dollars which were very well done but we lost him to Covid.
Hello Everyfriend! We did our trip to Davy's and Fishers today and I ran into Cole's Hardware and got a light bulb for over the dining room table.
Cathy and Cindy went to the Farmers' Market but I didn't go with them. I'm hoping to be able to go next week and get some beets to make more beet relish. I made 18 half pint jars and last summer and I'm down to two left and I promised to save one of those for my niece, Suzi. I might have to include her in the new batch.
My granddaughter, Courtney asked me if I had any more of a certain kind of jam left and I had to admit to her that I didn't make that one. A friend gave it to me. So I'm getting the recipe from the friend and making some of my own this summer and that will be one of her Christmas presents.
PATRICIA. I always enjoy hearing about ANYTHING Alaskan...weather, space, animals....whatever. Alaska is the only one of the United States that I haven't managed to visit and I breathe in everything I see about it! I've given up ever getting there in person but I can always go when I read about it!
AMY, I get eggs from chickens that live on a farm near my Maryland daughter and SIL. He started raising them on the farm where he grew up and his father still lived. Then when his father passed away and the farm was sold, he found a farmer down the road who rented him a piece of ground for his chickens and goats. So I still get occasional fresh farm eggs.
We've been getting a bit more gentle rain during the nights and today we had some during the day. So I haven't had to water anything that daughter Christy planted when she was here. I do have to check the flowers that Cathy planted in my hanging box. If the rain comes from the right direction, they get if. If it doesn't, they need hand watering. I almost forgot that!
Cindy went to bed and it's time for me to hit the haystack pretty soon. I was trying to make sure the dishwasher wasn't going to leak, explode or quit before I go and it's about half done! So....
I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow. God Bless us, every one!
Good morning..
Starting out at 47° ,cloudy with a promise of more rain.
Taking my friend to a Dr appointment in the city today and then do a bit of shopping. Men are staying home and looking after the furkids.
Better get the day started
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning AMY and anyone else who shows up.
AMY, have a safe trip to the city and back and have fun shopping without the guys or furkids!
I'm just here passing time until Cindy takes a break from her job. She can do it anywhere and she's set up on my dining room table! She'll be leaving today to have a visit with her daughter in Westchester, PA before heading back to OKLA! So I'm waiting to have breakfast with her whenever she's ready. We're going to have J.E.Ts.
Have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!
Good morning everyone, it's a late morning for me. I've had my morning meet and greets and need to start moving, make some coffee and finish my morning routines.
Yesterday was a full laundry day, fitting the few washers among everyone else attempting to do the same.
It's a chill but sunny morning at 52 degrees, all those puffy purple clouds that crowded the horizon the past two days moved on east without spilling a drop. Hopefully they'll spill some on the way through Canada.
Been a long day & looks like a long night ahead with storms pushing into the Wichita area. Patricia, I'd love to join you with a cup of coffee but don't drink much but instant now & that hardly tastes like REAL coffee.
Nothing new to talk about, my sons sent photos of shopping & eating in Buena Vista, they went in so the youngest could warm up! Plenty of warm clothes but he has always been the one to prefer HOT-HOT & the other will wear shorts in the snow. Too bad they both had other plans later in the summer, I always preferred later when aspen are gold & all the locals share their fresh produce.
Better check radar, don't think even a tornado warning would get me out of bed tonight! Sweet dreams and God Bless. Love y'all......tisie/shirley
Shirley, I'd love to join you for coffee, but we'd be better off bringing our own. I drink about twelve cups a day and it's an unindoctrinated strong black. I never use coffee creamer and I haven't had sugar in the house since sometime around Christmas.
I spent a fair bit of time growing up in Colorado with relatives farming outside of Grand Junction, Montrose, and Ouray.
My father's side other than a few in northeastern Washington state, farmed around Lamarr and Joplin, Missouri.
Good morning..
Yesterday was a fun day, my friend got good news at the Dr and then we were off shopping. What a chore to do. :2funny: Good job we have a van!
Today is pick up meds, pay taxes ,drop off a birthday gift to SIL and then home to hopefully get some work done.....maybe.
You ladies may have my coffee, once upon a time I could drink 10 cups or more but now it is just tea.
Better get moving..
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning PATRICIA, AMY, SHIRLEY and anyone else who appears in here today. It's not very active!
I've been up since 6:15, had my breakfast, met Cooper at the door and gave him his breakfast. Then I went in and got dressed and we went for a walk....in the sprinkling rain. It's supposed to sprinkle all morning and then clear off around noon or so. I think I'm going to get my bills in order and then read a little bit. I can sit on the sofa with Cooper and do that and pet him and love him up occasionally. He seems to like that.
I have no plans for the rest of the day except for my books and a load of laundry!
Yesterday, I made a tater tot casserole and that will be my supper today, too.
I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!
Almost forgot, my grandson Kyle and his bride-to-be, Tori, will be her this weekend for a wedding of one of his friends. We are all going to have lunch at The Fence while they're here. it'll be good to see them!
Good morning from a 61 and cloudy Interior. Yesterday afternoon went from sunny to more of those bulbous purple clouds that simply moved on to the east. I'm hoping they do some good in Canada as we don't need them here. I have to admit it is a rare phenomenon to see such dark and heavy clouds move over and past without spilling any rain.
Today will be routine as all the laundry and chores were finished earlier in the week and other than posting in the card shoppe, nothing is looming for the day. I do need to get more coffee soon as I'm running out, but not today.
I spent the last couple of days downloading graphics on my newest external drive and rearranging graphics on one and all the office side of things on another with photos on a third.
Nothing new is on locally as two planned excursions fell through and no plans as yet for more other than last week's small shopping trip. Claire is in talks with one of her nephews to stay with her and help with the farm while he's buying into it.
It seems covid has changed so many things. Speaking of that, a couple in India, was vilified online for naming their twins Covid and Corona. What type of parent would do that? And a third named their newborn son, Sanitizer.
https://duckduckgo.com/?q=naming+twins+covid+and+corona&atb=v368-1&ia=news
The large purple clouds have returned for the third afternoon. I hope this is doing some Canadian good. We're only 598 miles from Whitehorse to the east.
When I talk about the folks living in the foothills and ridges surrounding the city;
https://www.seniorsandfriends.org/index.php?msg=237542
I followed your link over to Photos, Patricia.... oh, my goodness, what a way to live your friends had! At least they have those memories!
Time to say good night, I fell asleep watching TV & had a phone call from son in CO. It is still raining but they did get a short hike in today (with slickers on). I guess they've eaten at the Lodge or in either of the 2 little closest towns most days. The camper has a nice stove & oven but cooking inside also encourages the bears to invite themselves in. Not the best camping weather but when reservations were made back in Jan.1, they took what was open! I appreciate the calls & photos, have good memories from many years being there!
Sweet dreams and God Bless, love y'all. Tisie/Shirley
Good morning
Starting to be a nice day, great for hanging laundry out. Yesterday there was a hint of smoke in the air but so far nothing today.
Jane, enjoy your time with your grandson and btb.
Patricia, we didn't get any rain here but I did hear that other areas to the south got some. They were also get T-storms but haven't heard if they did or not. Loved your photos, I could live there, no problem. That is what you call a million dollar view!!
Shirley, we also enjoyed camping and campfire time at night. Our travels took us across Canada and into the US .
Better get the laundry started.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Gorgeous photos, Patricia.
This morning I woke to another orange air quality alert.
Been puttering around the house, doing some reading, and lots of online time the last three days. In other words, not much going on lately.
We had a nice amount of the last two days. The grass is greening up, but not yet growing to the point I need to mow it. I did go out Friday afternoon for about a half hour and did a bit of weeding.
No hanging laundry out....smoke is not nice!!
MarGal, our grass has been growing like crazy with the rain we have had.
Good Morning Everyfriend! I was by earlier today but my post was the last one and I didn't feel like talking to myself. Then I noticed PATRICIA's post and I loved it! What you post is almost like being there!
AMY, this will be a short visit with the kids. They're coming for a friend's wedding but we're going to lunch at THE FENCE before they have to get ready for the wedding!
I'm off to get ready! Have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!
Patricia, I meant to comment on the baby names..those poor children have to go through life with them. Can't help but wonder will they change their names as they get older?
Jane, what is The Fence?
What ever happened to good old Measles and Mumps?
There was a local man who started a Christmas village-themed store in North Pole, a city 25 miles south of here. His sons run it now, and it's pretty well-known and high-priced.
https://www.santaclaushouse.com/default.asp
I bring this up because seventy years ago, he gave every one of his children a Christmas name, and every one of them changed it as adults. There was Merry, Happy Noel, and I don't remember the sons' names.
THE FENCE is a drive-n restaurant that's been around since back in my school days. It's right by the Susquehanna River and it draws crowds from the beginning of April into October. I willing to bet it has a place on line but I've never tried to look it up. Anyone who grew up in Lewisburg and doesn't live here any more, will want to make a return visit there when they are back home! My first visit of the season is always my birthday in April!
http://fencedrivein.com/
Jane, thank you, I just looked at the menu and it all looks good. Fish and chips sound good to me.
Jane, I was ever only in Milton once. I was with my Ex who had to stop on a service call to the Milton Police. That was actually the first time I ever saw marijuana. They had it in a display case.
George may have known about The Fence, but I didn't. Looks like a nice place to stop and enjoy a meal and the scenery. I see Wikipedia shows a picture of the restaurant too.
Thanks RICK! When I finished my reply, I did go to check if they had a website and saw that they do! It's worth a stop if you're ever in the area. High school kids hang out there in the summer and after any event at the school. While it says Milton is it's address, it's actually closer to Lewisburg but on the other side of the river!
I had a fish sandwich, some french fries and a Lemon Blend to drink. This drink is their own invention and they must have a patent because I've never seen it offered anywhere else.
Now I'm off to the haystack! Cooper will be arriving early tomorrow morning and I'll need to take care of him and get a walk in before church service comes on line! So....I wish you all a peaceful night sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one!
Good Morning..
Happy Fathers Day to the Dads.
A day of rest here, will just putz in the day. Well, that is the plan but one never knows until the end of the day what happens.
Crow is not only hollering at 5:30 am for his breakfast but he/they want a 2:00 pm treat also. Who says you can't train ol people???
Patricia, interesting site !
Better get moving.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend!
Hello all;. hot and hazy is the order of the day.. I have this uncontrolable urge to sleep especially in the daytime. The frustrating thing is that I can't watch anything on tv without falling asleep midway. What I do now is record everything and replay it in bits and pieces. It's amazing the things we have to adjust to as we get older. Fortunately Bubble is my alarm clock so we can chat on time
This has been an interesting day. Kyle wanted to gogo for a drive. On that drive we first encountered a small fox, scooting up the opposite side of the road. Next was wild turkey and then on the way home a hard brake for a doe on the road. She wasn't alone and soon another doe came out and crossed in front of us. Beautiful to see!
Don,good to see you here and glad the Bubble is your alarm clock..
Here to wish all the fathers a HAPPY FATHER'S DAY, hope all the sons & daughters have sent their love.
Amy, nothing better for my eyes than the sight of FREE wildlife. The rains recently are making my lettuce & spinach pop up, pretty soon I will slip a few of the bigger leaves out of there & fix a wilted salad, yes I will!
Don, I also sleep a lot during the day but quit taping the movies, now I just watch the repeats and enjoy the scenery over & surprise myself with what I missed before! I like the old westerns for the scenery but not the ones that are too depressing. Some of the well known actors make life seem so ugly. Glad you & Bubble have so many happy memories to share.
Jane, sounds like everyone is glad to have you back and life is full! We had a drive in where I grew up and no matter where in the world anyone traveled, first thing to do was "circle Garst's", to see who had missed us. Their hamburgers were amazing!
Hello Everyfriend...or at least the ones who are still hanging around. I got a lot done today but I still have some stuff to take care of.
I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one! (Even the ones who aren't coming by any more!)
Hi Everyone!
For me it is always a good day when
I go to the doctors and come
home with a smile on my face!
I can't complain, I am doing well and
hope others are too!!
We are having nice weather here. I only
have to use my AC occasionally. We are lucky
here on the rocky coast of Maine. So far, so good!
But we are getting smoke from the fires
in Canada.. So Sad!
:wave2:
Sandy
Nice to see you are doing well, Sandy. I'm waiting for one last dryer load to fold & I am off to bed. It will be cooler late tonight but still at 81 degrees right now.
Good night and sweet dreams. Love y'all......Tisie/Shirley :smitten:
Goodnight Shirley, and everyone else. Thanks for the dryer reminder.
Good morning...
Not much rain came so the sprinkler is on in the garden for a bit.
Daily duties call after we pick up meds and a few things in town.
Shirley, I forgot the rabbit that scampered across the road and yes nice to see all these critters.
Sandy, that would certainly put a smile on ones face. Good news is always welcomed.
Better get going.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend! Cooper is here and we've had a walk and watered all the plants, ate breakfast and I just finished my second cup of coffee.
SANDY, so nice to see you posting and my congrats on your good news!
AMY, have a good day and watch out for the animals when you're driving!
I wish Everyfriend a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!
Good Night, JaneS and anyone else who peeks in to the Soda Shoppe!
I'm here to turn out the lights again. Sweet dreams and God Bless. Thanks to everyone that comes to tell about their day, sure brightens MY days. Super hot here & was windy so hope tomorrow to open the slide & awning on the motorhome to drain off water that gathered. I try to run the generator once a month at the same time, an excuse to play with the big toy.
I do have my last visit with the home health nurse tomorrow. They have done their jobs. As Lloyd says, "hope to see you tomorrow". The days are still more pleasure than misery so I am grateful for that. Love y'all. Tisie/Shirley
Good morning..
Another lovely day in the making. So far no rain and it is much needed.
Dust kangaroos to gather and washing floors are foremost on the to do list.
I did pick out the material to start a new quilt yesterday, so incentive to get the work done first.
Managed to relocate all the items from one purse and a wallet into another purse and wallet. Now I can play hide and seek when I need to get something out of either one till I am used to them.
Just remembered I have two racks of ribs to slow cook then vacuum seal for the freezer. Quick meals when needed.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good morning, another humid rainy day today and for tomorrow. Everything is grey and foggy outside.
Yesterday, I went out for the coffee and filters I'd forgotten on the third and still forgot the bread I'd had on the list.
I met up briefly with others who had also forgotten items and we had coffee and croissants at McCafferty's. Fred ruined our sophisticated vibe by having a jelly donut and a newspaper. He said in his defense, he liked jelly donuts and if a man had to sit at a table with his wife and her girlfriends, he was going to need a paper.
Afterward I came home and spent the rest of the day mailing out bills and spent an enormous time on the cell waiting to speak to humans about certain irregularities.
Today will be spent continuing to revamp my computer storage and plowing through my email.
Managed to relocate all the items from one purse and a wallet into another purse and wallet. Now I can play hide and seek when I need to get something out of either one till I am used to them.
Amy, I have been procrastinating on your above chore for nearly a year. Don't know why it seems such a big chore, it could probably be done in 30 minutes, but I have done this with almost every wallet/purse I've ever gotten (rid of) LOL. So, maybe later today (since it's too darn hot to get out of the house) I'll embark upon Operation Switchout! Hope you all have a lovely, productive day. I know YOU will, Amy, as you never seem to sit still for a minute!
Amy, I make it easy on myself...I change my purse and never throw the old one away. So, I have a closet full of purses that I am always going to use again but never do. ::) I am a little bit of a hoarder, I think.
Rain today but we need it so not complaining.

This is so true! :)
Here I am to wish Everyfriend a good night! It's been a good day. I got a lot of things done but I'm sure no one is really interested in what I did all day. So I'll just say it was a busy day.
Tomorrow will be another Cooper day and I also have an eye appointement in the afternoon!. Made a new casserole today and it was good!
I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one!
Jane, we're interested.
Good morning..
Still no rain, may get some by the weekend. Will pick up new sealer gaskets for the IP. Patricia gave me the heads up on this information and then I got this from Simply Recipes.
https://tinyurl.com/57kstn26
Tome, did you get that nasty job done?? This purse has 6 zippered compartments and each has certain items in them.......now to remember. :)) I sit in the evening watching tv with a 99 lb dog on my lap.:))
Phyllis, I also keep purses if they are favourites. Some that are broke (unrepairable) are throw out after I remove items that I can use zippers etc.
Jane, hope you got good news at the eye Dr. and yes inquiring minds want ot know please!!I am trying out a new recipe for blueberry muffins later today...if good will post the recipe.
Patricia, I am getting two packages of the rings today, one for us and one for Bri.I could be cheeky and say write a list but if you're like me will leave the list home!! Just remembered Bri writes her list in her phone as she always has it on her. I should do that also but don't always have my phone charged.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend! And a "Very Early" good morning to you, PATRICIA!
Cooper has arrived, had his breakfast and is waiting for his first walk of the day. I have to get dressed to do that! I also have to strip the bed and get it ready for summer! Then I have to prepare for a coffee delivery. My DIL works at the local Starbucks and when I'm getting low and she has a freebie coming up and they don't need it, I get it! Today's the day!
I texted her that she can pass on it today if she needs to because I just heard that her stepfather passed away. We've all been expecting it but it's still a bit of a shock! And I'm sure her Mom will be happy to have her nearby!
I'm off to do some chores and then get ready for an eye dr. appointment this afternoon! Dinner's already in the fridge...left over casserole!
AMY, you beat me here! I keep my shopping list on my phone too! And the phone is always with me...unless I forget it!
I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!
Good morning; today's the summer solstice, the longest day of the year with almost guaranteed 24/7 daylight, and it's cloudy and rainy out. I'm sure folks will still party with store sales, street fairs, music at different parks, garden walks, antique automotive trips, and shows as well.
I haven't heard if the baseball game played with no artificial lights and beginning at midnight or the golf game, also beginning at midnight, are still on or if the thousand-mile, three-crewed boat race beginning, is still on or not as Covid had silenced them in past years. With the rivers' still running high and with flooding and sweepers; I know that the race isn't on.
I know that the meet and greets aren't planning anything; most have moved into city apartments without yards, and have no energy for the parties we were used to. And the rain doesn't help.
This is what the city organizers say about it, " Here, the sun dips below the horizon at around 12:48 am, rising shortly after at 2:48, with a rosy glow of twilight in between. More than 30,000 people pack downtown for twelve hours of fun under the midnight Alaskan sun! Alaska's biggest one-day event showcases live performances throughout the day to keep festival visitors entertained. Food + Shopping booths offering locally made goods and delicious food selections will line our downtown streets. This is an amazing FREE event to experience the best of the midnight sun and the best of beautiful Fairbanks rolled into one special day."
We can't wait to see you in beautiful Downtown Fairbanks for the 41st Midnight Sun Festival!
1st and 2nd Avenues will be closed to vehicular traffic.
1st Avenue will be programmed with community activities; 2nd Avenue will be the familiar street fair with food trucks, shopping, vendors, crafts and live entertainment."
The midnight sun baseball game was played under no artificial lights and, beginning at midnight, had an amazing pre-Covid 116-year run.
Newspaper EDIT: "Fairbanks hosts one of the best summer solstice celebrations in Alaska on summer solstice weekend, when the midnight sun shines all night long. This free 12-hour event includes a downtown street fair with arts, crafts, food, live music, and entertainment.
If you're around on the actual summer solstice – June 21 - don't miss the Midnight Sun Baseball Game, starting at 10:00pm on solstice evening. Watch the Alaska Goldpanners play an entire game under the midnight sun without the use of artificial light. "
Amy, no, still procrastinating, well, not really. I got involved in some paperwork and next thing I knew, it was 11:00.
My new purse has four zippered compartments, with some separate compartments in the zippered parts. The wallet has 3 zippered compartments, a snap closure (looks like for a phone) and those other separate places for whatever...I have a travel-sized Kleenex tissue packet already in one of them. I think I did carry the wallet when a friend and I went to some kind of to-do, and I didnt want to carry my tatty old wallet!
I do have several purses that have been utilized, but are still in good shape if I want to carry one again. I have one that is big enough to hold a tablet or laptop. I also have a special purse, which doesn't go with almost anything I wear, (it is bright red) and is a "Coach" brand, which I got at a yard sale for $2.00. Can you believe a Coach for $2.00? Actually, while I'm sitting here typing, I realize I do have a new pair of red shoes, which would go well. With black trousers, a red blouse would be nice, but I don't have one of those! Browns, beiges, purples, navy. You can tell I don't do a lot of "shopping". Most of my stuff is from years ago when I worked in an office. Hey, I still fit in most of them! Haven't gained a lot of weight, but have experienced the old "gravity shift", making the pants the item that gets sent to Goodwill more often.
Good Night Everyfriend! I got a lot done today and I'm kind of tired! I'm off to the haystack! Sleep well!
Goodnight, Jane; sleep well, and we'll see you in the morning.
I gave several styles of black purses away this last decluttering time, but I kept some of my favorites. I always return to a reddish-brown backpack style that's easy to throw over one shoulder. And yes, it has many zippered pouches and pockets with a principal security one to wear on the inside-facing outward side.
The wallet is navy enveloped with room for several cards and separate pockets for cash, change, coupons, and receipts. I always go back to these two, no matter the newer styles.
The heavy rains returned about three, and I saw the various parking lots had emptied, and the crowds had gone home. Do they cancel the baseball game or play in the rain? It's 74 at 7:18, and I need to do some chores as they left another water shutoff notice for tomorrow between 9 am and 1 pm. This is the third since mid-May which isn't promising.
Here's hoping everyone has a good evening, and hopefully, I'll see everyone in your afternoon and my morning.
Good Morning Everyfriend...except PATRICIA! Good AFTERNOON, PATRICIA!
I went out last evening and dragged out the hose and watered everything just as it was getting dark. This morning it's raining...a nice soft, gentle rain! I guess I'll leave the hose in the box today. But I'll still have to go out and walk in it because Cooper will be here around6:45 and he takes his two walks no matter what the weather is!
Cathy said she might be going to Wenger's today (that's the major Amish grocery store) and asked if I wanted to go along. She's going to let me know today when she reaches her final decision. I've decided that if she goes, I'm going! I have a couple things on my list that I can get there and just being with Cathy is one of my better days!
I've had my breakfast and I'm ready to feed Cooper when he gets here but I'm not dressed yet. So I better think about that!
I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!
Good morning...
No rain in sight till Sunday here. Garden is coming along but a nice gentle rain would help it.
Didn't get the baking done yesterday so today is the day. Managed to vacuum seal bbq ribs for the freezer though.
Tome,I can understand that! I have a job ahead of me and really not looking forward to it but it does need to be done, not one I can put off much longer.
Patricia, I have a photo that was taken 10:45 pm in the Yukon and it is as bright as 10:45 am!
Jane, enjoy your shopping trip.
Shirley, hope all is well there ,Phyllis, Lloyd ,Rick and Jenny too!
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good morning all. Drizzle now, and prediction for a week of rain. Remember that old "Morton's" slogan ----- When it rains, it pours,
I did get out to open the RV & put the awning out to dry, ran the generator for a short while just to say I did. ;) Going to dump the dishwater, always start with fresh soapy water in the morning & do them as we use them. Since I usually get 3 hours a hitch of sleep, I'm really going to confuse Fitbit tonight!
One kind of the lettuce is big enough to pick leaves off, but was hoping for a variety for the first bowl of wilted lettuce. Will take a closer look tomorrow.
Sweet dreams and God Bless, love y'all. Thanks for being here to visit today! Tisie/Shirley
I'm off to the haystack! I made a mistake about the eye appt. it's not until next week but Cathy and I made a trip to Wengers and I got a lot done around the house!
I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow. And may God bless us, every one!
SHIRLEY, it sounds like you got some "stuff" done, too!
Good Morning Everyfriend! I woke up early this morning and I couldn't go back to sleep so I got up. I've had my coffee and my breakfast and I'm ready for Cooper's arrival! I suspect that the haystack will call me for a nap at some point today and I'll join Cooper on the sofa!
It's supposed to get into the low 70s today with a light rain beginning around 1 and lasting most of the day. So I guess the hose will stay in the box today!
I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!
Good morning...
Overcast here this morning but no mention of rain. They say by the weekend we will get some, I am going to replant my parsnips today and hope we do get a gentle rain. They take about 100 days to mature, really hope these seeds are better.
Have to pick up fluorescent lights and replace those that are not working, one job out of the way.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
:hello:
Amy, didn't cross my mind that the reason some of the lettuce/spinach didn't come up was the seed not any good! Duh..... I plan to go out today (plans-plans) & pick enough of the larger leaves to make a salad, don't think it will still be tender by time Andy gets back from CO next week.
It is a scorcher today, shocking when I remember this is still JUNE and the hot months are July & August! But I also remember back in 1954 when it was 118 degrees and nobody had any air conditioning! I worked in a 280' concrete block building, concrete floor & we actually wore heels & hose to work.
Hope everyone finds a joy in this day, even if just a short time.
Lights have been replaced in my sewing room, noticed one
in the basement that is blinking so might as well get that one done tomorrow. Need to replace one/two in the garage for Kyle .all in a days work , maybe tomorrow. Planted more parsnip seeds, new pkg so I hope they grow! Also planted more multiplier onions. Watered most of the trugs just to empty the rain barrel and we did get a light rain....not much but some is better than none.
The swollows have babies, everytime I go into th garden you can hear them peeping. Mom and Dad are on the fly bringing them food, full time job!
I'm heading for the haystack pretty soon! Breakfast is ready and the coffee only takes a minute in my new pot so it'll be a quickie in the morning. I had meatloaf, sweet taters and choppped brussel sprouts for supper. Gooooood Supper!
I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one!
Good Morning Everyfriend! Have a good day!
Good morning...
We did have some rain, not a lot though. Hope it was enough to fill the rain barrel.
Another day of playing catch up, along with laundry.
Shirley we are also having heat this way, not as hot as Bubbles area though.
Patricia, :hello: to you and :kitten:
Better get going, enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good morning everyone!
89F today
Greetings from London Ontario. Amy your comment about the rain barrel brings back memories of my youth when we had two rain barrels which usually meant there was sufficient water on laundry day. Of course that meant that we had to haul the water to a fire pit where there was a huge cauldron where we boiled the water. I can tell you that laundry day was the most labour intensive day of the week, but we always had clean clothes. The cauldron was part of our slaughter house operation; we used to do all of the domestic slaughtering in the county. Quite often a farmer would pay for our services with large piece of meat, or roast instead of money which was a very good arrangmemt which meant we hardly ever bought meat. Those were part of what we call the good old days.
Bubble, we have 75 presently, but a promise of lightning and thundershowers tonight. Hopefully, they'll pass right over to somewhere else!
We've had cloudy skies but highs of 80 and 81. Today is our first sunny day.
Don, how nice to see you!
We had one large water barrel to the left of our backdoor and another to the right of our acre of garden.
I grew up in the fifties, and my mom progressed from a wringer washer to different automatics. Still, we had a long wire stretched between two poles, another in the basement, and, later, circular outdoor clothes hanging system. The basement was better in the winter.
To the south of us they had torrential rains and t storms. We just got a drop in the bucket (rainbarrel) I am glad that the storm didn't happen though..
Managed to replace the lights in the garage, will pick up more to replace the ones in the basement another day. ( I know procrastination. :)
Don,ladies will also tell you that the rain water was also good for washing their hair! I am not sure the young ones would understand what our parents and their for that matter did to put food on the table.
Patricia, I loved my wringer washer...wish they would bring them back. I also enjoy using the solar dryer . :)
This area, the interior, is not only a farming mecca due to the rich black glacial soil but also with the rivers and forests, prime hunting and fishing grounds the Athabaskans claimed.
It's still that today if more regulated.
Patience paid off....it rained buckets, bouncing off the driveway and filling the water barrel  This did come with sound effects so Babe had a doctored up treat to settle her down..
Hello Everyfriend! I grew up with all that stuff, too. On washday, there was a wringer washer and two rinse tubs in our kitchen. The wringer moved to wring clothes going through both rinse tubs. I loved leading clothes into those wringers but I remember my mother was only inches away. And off the back porch was a clothes line that my mother called a "pully line". She could stand on the high back porch and clothespin the clothes on the bottom part of the line and move them out into the yard to dry. The other end was attached to a tree down at the end of the yard! Everyone up and down the street had them.
It got up into the mid 80s around here today! And we had some soft rain showers to go with it. And we're supposed to get more showers over night. I trusted them this time and I didn't drag out the hose.
I have one of Jim's Egg Thingys in dish ready to be heated up for breakfast tomorrow. Also, tomorrow afternoon we have a reunion of staff at the former Girl Scout Camp. We've been having them for about 25 years now but for the two COVID years we didn't have them. Tomorrow will be special. Everyone brings memories in pictures and in their minds and we have a fun couple of hours. I think I might be the oldest one returning this year. I did my two years as a Senior Scout Program Aide in 1951 and 52 and my one year as a Counselor in 1953 and the memories stick around! They were good years!
Nice to see you and your memories, DON! My dad grew up on a farm and it was still there when I was growing up. Whenever they slaughtered, my dad went to help and we always had meat to bring home. We were probably one of the few families in our area during WWII that had fresh meat on the table pretty regularly!
Guess I better head for the haystack. Tomorrow will be a busy day! I wish Everyfriend a peaceful nights sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one!
Thank you, Jane, for the name of the clothesline. Although, it wasn't by the porch but in a small area in our backyard.
They've had some music festival in a park by the river, just a block away, that started at nine am. The thunder showers have chased away the sunshine and built up fearsomely, but no drops as yet, so the festival continues. At this point, I'm hoping it opens up and drenches them! They need more time limits for those inside the city limits and next to homes.
And yes, I'm being grouchy!
Good morning..
Birds are singing loudly this morning, likley thankful for the rain also!
A day of rest here, will just laze the day in .
In some places one is not allowed to hang laundry outside. I hang ours our at long as I can in winter but when the snow gets too deep it is dried in the dryer.
Jane, enjoy your reunion with your friends.
Patricia, I am with you on the noise a curfew should be set. Some people do have to get up and go to work the next morning and need their sleep. I think the curfew here is 11 pm.
Shirley, after I planted the second planting of parsnips the first one is peeking. Makes me happy that we will have a good crop of parsnips
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Well, that didn't go well. On the way into town we encountered smoke and as we got closer to town it also got thicker. Stopped at the grocery store for a few items. waited in line then a staff member told us all to vacate the store, fire trucks could be heard screaming to the store. Out we all went dropping our groceries on the floor or leaving a buggy full of groceries. Still smoke from the northern fires here, not as thick as town was though..
I just did my church service on line and I'm ready to be picked up for the GS Reunion. I have on green pants and my GS Shirt and tie with pins all over it. My dress uniform is ready to take with me and it's also loaded with pins! I didn't realize I had so many pins.
I did my morning walk, came back and took a shower and dressed before the church service came on.
It's supposed to begin raining around 1 p.m. here and rain for most of the afternoon. No hose dragging today if that happens.
I think Frankie (and Cooper) will be coming over this afternoon. She says he needs a bath and she always does that here because all she has is a shower and he keeps jumping out. She also said she might visit for the evening and spend the night. That means I'll have a bedfellow tonight. The bed she sleeps in is a single and he prefers the room I have in my bed.
AMY, that must have been scary getting chased out of the store! Also, wondering if you know where Combemere Resort is! Daughter Christy and husband spent some time there and also around the Thousand Islands. I told her she probably could have delivered a hug from me to you! And maybe one to David from me also.
I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!
Jane, yes I do!! In fact we helped with clean up when the tornado went through a few years back. Not sure which direction she came through but could have come right by us!! Both of us would have loved your hugs . :smitten:
Forgot to say I posted a photo of the smoke in the area..
Good morning, well the alert, last night, was wasted on us, those thick bulbous purple clouds sailed on by with nary a drop spilt. It was a music festival and car show down by the river, Amy where they had extremely good mics as I felt like they were directly below rather than two blocks to the west.
At ten, the hard rockers took over and that is when more cars showed up and I couldn't believe there were still families with strollers showing up. Evidently, those rocking were well-known and popular. I don't believe there is a curfew, but I finally fell asleep amidst the noise and people.
I looked it up online, The city decided that it was in their best commercial interests to hold the midnight sun festival on the Saturday following so most folks would be off work. Never mind that the solstice is on the 21st.
I wouldn't have minded if the mics hadn't magnified it so much!
"The Midnight Sun Festival is Alaska's largest single-day event! We look forward to the 41st anniversary of the festival on June 24, 2023 from Noon-Midnight. Featuring 12 hours of local live music, vendors, and food trucks. 1st and 2nd Avenues will be closed to vehicular traffic. "
Good morning...
Woke to the sound of rain, much needed rain for the ground. Just hope those that are experencing the forest fires are also getting rain.
We are off to the city this morning, leaving the furkids at home and will definitely get "the look" when we get home.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend! I'm now off for the rest of the day. My dr. gave me good news! He said there are no cells returning to the area of my surgery on my jaw and if that continues for the rest of this year, I'm home free! I knew that the drs. I had were good but this morning I saw this one without a mask for the first time. Boy is he ever a cutie! And he's so NICE, too!
AMY, I wish I'd known in advance how close they were going to be! I'd have definitely packed a couple of hugs in their luggage!
PATRICIA, I went to bed last night while the fireworks were going off! After I took out my hearing aids, the fireworks moved farther away and I didn't have any trouble getting to sleep!
I think Cooper is ready for his second walk. We were out REALLY EARLY this morning because of my having to get ready for my early DR. appt! I'm hoping he can wait until after lunch.
I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!
We had a good day! Rained on the way into the city, not a lot but enough . Dogs were happy to see us and enjoyed the treats.
Then later on, hokey teddy bear did it rain! Over flowed the eve trough and thunder gave voice.
Noticed on the way to the city that the staghorn sumacs were loaded with flowers. This fall the colours will be vibrant and the birds will have them to eat.
Good evening everone. well girls I do not reamber if I have told you all aout this before, but I will tell you again either way. my mother was uasing our old Matag wringer wassher. she had it set up like you all said with two reince wash tubs. the way you all did.she was putting clothes in one side of the wringer and leaning over to the other other side catching them. she leansd over too far, and the wringer cought her right bousem and pulled on to it. and was spinning on it. she could not get to where she could relace it. she yell at me to come help her. i hit the realice thing to spred it but it was still spinning on her bussum. so she ylledd revurse it. so i did and then shut it off. she shure had a black and bluew bussem for a while. so grils if you still use a old wringer washer, do not lean over them, they will will grabe a hold and pull, take it easy and stay safe.
Lloyd
Guess many of us grew up with the old Maytag wringer washer. Lloyd, terrible about your poor mother but can remember how that could happen so easy. Mom's was so old she tried to prove it was the oldest model still working. She knew exactly how much blueing to add to have "the whitest-whites" in the neighborhood. I am wondering if hers had to be hand cranked for the wringer. I know sox had to be flat going in and each basket full carried from basement to outside where Dad had a long clothesline that was low enough for Mom to reach, and then a long board she would prop the line up with after hanging everything. It seemed to me one load was dry by the time the next load went up. The whites were sprinkled and rolled up tight in a basket to be ironed next day. Being the last of 5 kids I followed Mom around & "helped" a lot. Most everything got ironed & I learned to iron young & still appreciate fresh ironed things.
Sweet dreams and God Bless, we can live all over the world and still find we have a lot in common, right?
Lloyd...
...reminds me of my first job after leaving school age 15, when i worked in a printing factory on one of those large - long floor electric roller conveyer belt machines that magazines-newspapers roll off that i had to pack on wooden pallet...well i had long hair and as i bent down when a paper dropped on the floor, as my hair caught in the roller, if it hadn't of been for the man sitting at the other end of that machine noticing and pressing that button that turned those rollers off just in time of that roller reaching the scalp...As you can guess and after hair being freed i was shaking and sent to the office and made to tie my hair back with an elastic band before being sent back on that conveyer belt....
Gosh, Jackie, you worked in the printing industry too? Different times, though, I am sure. I worked in pre-press. I was there for the change from making film images for the "strippers" to mount on big sheets of what I think was oak-tag paper in preparation to making the plates, to going all digital. By the time I left, clients were beginning to send files electronically directly to press without needing my help at all. The computer did it all. I was there 19 and a half years before I got laid-off, just six months shy of being eligible for severance pay and two years shy of eligible for full Social Security benefits.
I've been keeping half an eye on the marine traffic on the Great Lakes. It looks like the tourist cruises are back in full swing. I counted at least five ocean going cruise ships. There are at least that many of the smaller laker cruise/passenger ships and the passenger ferries are being kept busy. Since the Titanic tragedy, I've been wondering about Viking's submersibles. https://www.vmcdn.ca/f/files/tbnewswatch/images/local-news/2022/may/viking-octantis-submersible.JPG;w=960;h=640;bgcolor=000000 What is even more interesting is that there are personal submersibles for sale now that hold only one or two people. I had no idea. If you have super big bucks, you too can own your own submersible and park it in the garage. Take a look at the many different models one company offers. https://tritonsubs.com/subs/ I had no idea that tourist submersibles have been around for so long.
MarsGal...
...that was the place to work after leaving school if we had members of family in the printing industry, you could guarantee that we would be taken on....I was only in that factory for a short while then it moved into London, i was not one who went with it...
Good morning..
Another day of t storms the weather folks say. Sure hope they are wrong!
Rain is welcomed especially to the north for the fires that are not under control yet.
Work around home today ,better get somethin or warm upg easy to cook as tomorrow we are to get another booster shot for covid and I am not sure how it will effect us.
Shirley, Mom used a pop bottle with a sprinkler head in it and did what your Mom did roll the item up untill she ironed it. Ironing is one job I really enjoy and do a lot of it in quilting.
Better get the day going..
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Huh, more underwater things. I just now ran across a crime/mystery/thriller series by Andrew Mayne called Underwater Investigations Unit. So far he has written four books in this series. Now I am off to investigate this new to me series.
Jackie, for the most part I enjoyed my work. It was a good fit since I love books, etc. Prior to that, I was three years at Rodale Institute, the not-for profit set up by Bob Rodale. I got to rub elbows with the editors of The New Farm magazine and often writers and editors of the various magazines at Rodale, Inc., the commercial publisher. While I rarely saw Bob, I did occasionally talk to his secretary, and his younger son who did photography work for the Institute was in and out when he wasn't in Africa or on some other assignment. I also got to go out to the research farm several times.
MarsGal...
...memories and our work experiences will forever stay with us, i have been told by several i should write a book on my past job experiences and the odd famous persons i have met...
****************
Now shall we tell Lloyd that us women have had our breasts squeezed and trapped in mammogram machines.... ;)
:) Good morning Amy and Joanne. We're seeing a cooler day today and tomorrow with temps in the low seventies with rain on Thursday before going up over the weekend.
Shirley, my mom was basically working through much of my childhood and then working around the house and yard otherwise as most folks were when we were still a territory and not yet a state. I remember her always busy and other than cooking, I think she saw the house and grounds as something that reflected on her. In the fifties, I think that was a common thread.
Amy, I've had four covid boosters, and the way both flu, covid, and RSV are presently mutating, it looks like there will be plenty of boosters in seniors' futures.
Joanne, I spent my entire employment in the retail and hospitality industries, mainly in middle management, which I do not recommend. You are accountable to both the public and senior management. You are often given 200 working hours per pay period to be split between twelve to fourteen employees with preference to those senior or in good standing, so you're generally not too favorited by employees either.
Patricia, this will be our 6th shot for covid/booster. We have had the flu shots and Kyle has had the pneumonia shot. Being immunocompromised he has to be careful, must admit we aren't wearing our masks other than into Dr appointmaents.A friend and his wife got a virus and he said it knocked them off their pins and was worse than covid. Always something to look forward to....NOT.
Do the storms bother Farrah?
Amy, I've had two vaccinations and three boosters presently, but no news of another here. I rarely become ill, but when I do, it usually goes south quickly, so I wanted to ensure I was prepared by being vaccinated.
Farrah, in the beginning, used to be affected by storms and loud noises, especially building smoke alarms. When that changed, I had her hearing tested at a following vet appointment which came back fine, and the vet theorized that she had become used to those sounds. I also noticed that she tended to see how I reacted and went by that when they occurred.
The only thing she's bothered by are men she doesn't know and will hide under or behind something.
EDIT: She'll be eleven in early September, so she's gotten very easy going about most.
Patricia, interesting how she weathers the storms!!
Jane, how is your day going? Did you have an interesting time with your group of GG ladies?
No storm here...so far.
Eye on a storm moving our direction, happens to be where it came from when we first moved to Wichita and it was a real doozie. Tornado headed right for our NO basement rental house & we had no idea the names of neighbors so we packed 3 little kids, a German Shepherd & bird in a cage into our Cadillac (remember how heavy the '61 Sedan deVilles were) & headed for the highway out of town. As we turned the first corner at end of street the radio weather man excitedly explained "the tornado split & half went to east side of town but other half exactly on path we were"... change of plans again another turn at next mile section line when storm caught the tail fins of the car & plopped us into a drainage ditch with back end resting on the concrete culvert. Oops... back wheels just whizzed in the air. My husband opened to car door to look around, raining so hard we couldn't see out, water came rushing thru our feet & as he sat down he explained "we had a lot of power lines overhead". As the tornado went overhead the driving rain followed and shortly the street was full of trucks & people checking everyone out. We were lucky, had the car dried out (farmer with tractor had instant business) and felt like we learned much from the experience. And for sure, I pay attention when a storm shows up on radar from that direction, pack up my critters, cameras & everything important & head to the basement. So that is what I'll be doing the next few hours, keeping track of radar.
Sweet dreams for all, an extra prayer for everyone having weather problems and God Bless us Every Friend. Love y'all. Tisie/Shirley
And here it is, storm moved on east of us, I had my sleep & woke up for a snack of crunchy ice & few bites of ice cream, scratching the dry skin & back to bed. All's well in Wichita.
Good Morning! Yes AMY, I had a nice time at my reunion on Sunday but I have to tell you, in the USA we're GS people...not GG line in Canada. But even more important was my news from the Dr. on Monday morning....no returning cells following my cancer surgery in my jaw and if that lasts through Nov. (2 years following the operation) I'm home free!
Gotta go! Cooper spent the night and he's asking to go for his morning walk! Have a good day Everyfriend!
Good morning...
Jane that is great news!! Nice to hear those words from the Dr. When Kyle heard the words ( after 5 years ) from the oncologist we both could have hugged her tight!!
Shirley ,stay safe! Can't imagine going through something like that.
Day is not that busy, our appointment is at 11 so will putz about till time to go get our booster.
More rain today and smokey. One really appreciates the smokefree days when we get them. Managed to do some gardening yesterday ,planted more beans and pulled weeds for the hens .
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good morning, sixty-one and cloudy, I think tomorrow's forecasted rain will come early this time.
Jane, so nice that you had a good time with the Girl Scout reunion. My mother was my girl scout leader, one of them, and I was a brownie through intermediate till my freshmen year and then I discovered boys.
Amy, it'll be good to have that booster behind you and Kyle.
Nothing new to report, some household chores and puttering around again. The biggest part of these days seems to be our morning meet and greet socials and playing around on this computer so there's that.
I realized last night that as of this coming November, I'll have been retired ten years. Everything lately seems so long ago. My nieces and nephew are in their forties and fifties and my sister's grandchildren are now preteens.
Patricia, no rain here dispite threats. Kyle mowed the lawn and I just came in from wipper snapping the areas the lawnmower couldn't
reach. We were in and out of appointment times this morning and needle no behind ,was in arm.. :2funny: Sorry Patricia, couldn't help myself.. ;)
Good Night Everyfriend!
I started eye treatments today and hopefully, I'll have clearer vision when the treatments and surgery are over. I already have better vision in my left eye than I've had in many years so I'm keeping my fingers crossed and a prayer in my mind. It's going to take a couple months but we shall see what happens...and I hope "I shall see"!!
I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow! And may God bless us, every one!
Jane, congratulations for the good news & best wishes for the eyes. Prayers for all in need and happy day ahead for all. God Bless & Sweet dreams! Tisie/Shirley
Good morning..
No ill effects from the shot so that is a good thing! Another smokey day here, yesterday the smoke got worse as the day wore on.
Not sure what is happening today, need to do some baking ,need to do some cleaning, need to do some ..ok not need but want to do some sewing.
Jane, my neighbour is so happy with her surgery, she wore glass since childhood and doesn't need them now only to read the small print. My other friend is the same, he also wore glasses but doesn't now.
Shirley, glad you didn't dance with the twister!
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning and thanks for the good wishes!
The technician was here this morning and upgraded my computer reception. He was here almost 3 hours and there was "no charge" and he was a really nice young man. Now we shall see how it works. He says it's working fine...faster than before. I wonder if that means I have to speed up?
I'm going to get some lunch and try out some other areas of the computer. Have a great day!
:) Good morning; we had a light show starting around ten to about two with lightning, thunder, and hail. And since then, it's been relentless gray fog with steady rain.
Air quality here is pretty bad again. Right now, the monitor in the orange with, not unexpetedly, particulate matter as the primary source. This new (as of yesterday) alert is expected to last through July 1.
House events: Yesterday I got the front yard and some of the backyard mowed. Today, the guys came over with a new toilet for me, got knocked down the old wood shed, a wood bench/shelf thingy, and the remains of old shelving against the wall. That removes any wood right up against the back of the house. They also removed the old toilet stall. It looks like once upon a time someone used an old salvaged public stall, covered with wood planks and added bits and pieces of wood for shelving. It always made me feel crowded. For now, I am okay without the stall. There is not much room between the toilet and the gas hot water heater, so I am happy not to have that old wood so close to it. Next up will be two new casement windows and getting the windows that need it wrapped (as opposed to caulking). The old caulking and exposed old wood framing are in fairly bad shape.
Shan and Oscar got a new water fountain dish. I am not so sure they are happy about it. It is smaller than the old one. Unfortunately, that thing is either leaking somewhere I can't find it, or more likely, the cats have been tussling near it again. Yesterday was the fourth time in a month I had to sop up water spill/leak. At any rate, it needs a soaking in a vinegar solution rather badly. That is a project I intend on tackling tomorrow. I learned my lesson regarding multi-cats and water dishes a while back. Both fountains in service now are sitting in the middle of a mat with a raised lip to prevent water from running onto the floor.
Your weather sounds positively yucky, Patricia. :cloud:
Jane, I am happy to see that you are having good results with your eye treatments/surgery. Now, thanks to your service tech, your computer :computer: is "seeing" better/faster too I bet. And, that was super news from your Doc about the cancer (lack thereof) results. You are on a roll.
I know, Joanne. From what I understand, the jet stream has a deep loop through Canada and the US, which keeps all of one type of weather on the west side, and the extreme heat stays on the east side.
They're returning again tonight after a gray day of steady clouds and rain.

Need to finish up on what didn't get done yesterday plus nip into town to pay a bill. Roads are going to be packed today with cottagers coming back for the summer.

MG, that is a lot of work to be done. Also one of the jobs I am procrastinating on......you know like your purse :)) I did install the new gasket a long time ago and we have notcied water on the floor. So, when the mood and the body agree it will be done!
Patricia, that sounds like our weekend and I am happy about that! Hope it means no firecrackers let off. Really, there should be none, not with all the wild fires around.
Better skedaddle
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Way down here just North of NYC we have an air quality warning again. Smoke from the Canadian fires has made it this far. It is visible in the air.
This could be a rough weekend with all the fireworks that always cause smoke and a fire somewhere. Between the fireworks smoke and the fire smoke, inside will be a good place to be. No rain predicted for later so the air will not get washed.
Other than all that good news --- enjoy the Holiday weekend.
My oldest grandson & family are staying with his parents in St.Louis for a few days, on their way for a week in Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, the Great Smokey Mountains. Can you imagine the heat & miles of traffic. Our visit was to see fall foliage so cars moved so slow the AC didn't run (long time ago) a nightmare of my husband trying to find a way out of the line to get outta there! At least the great grands can look forward to days at their Grammy's house where she has every toy invent, I swear, when they bought the house & basement empty it could have held numerous cars. The youngest of the 3 kids is sure HER Grandad is there to dote on her & he is thrilled with her special love.
The iPad is calling me, all kids have access to everything & can check on my ups & downs. I had breakfast about 3:00am & didn't get back to bed till nearly 5:00 so my usual 2-3 hours sleep & up. It is HOT & water in pool always nice & cool, BUT when they slather on all the sun screen it wrecks the chemicals & nobody wants to spend time adjusting without a lot more chemicals that make the area smell of chemicals! The way I keep it, I can open my bedroom sliding door at night any time the temps drop below what the thermostat is set at. A good world. Cas died July 2, 2013 so will soon pass another marker.
Won't repeat all the thoughts of how I spent this rest of my life, but God has been good. I am grateful for time spent visiting with Friends around the world, you have all made my days more interesting. Sincerely, Tisie/Shirley
Rammel, And, 'way down here, just west of Raleigh, NC., we are under a Code Orange because of the smoke. I'm staying in the house again but, I can still smell smoke. David and I both have allergies and I have asthma so we are staying in as much as we can.
Besides that, it is sticky and hot so the AC is running all the time. I think that pulls in smoke and that is why I smell it. This morning's local news showed a camera picture of downtown Raleigh and you could barely see the outline of the tall buildings in downtown.
Amy, is anything left of the beautiful Canadian woods?
I made a big pitcher of lemonade and I think I'll mix up some tuna salad for lunch. That sounds good to me on an unpleasant summer day.
Take care, All.
Phyllis, roughly 23 million acres have been burnt!! My friend open her doors and windows yesterday only to have a sore throat at night due to the smoke. . There are firefighters from all over the world helping to put out the fires.
Your lunch is the same as ours, son has me mixing up the tuna with some cottage cheese, ranch dressing and we enjoy it that way now.
Rick,I pick my times to go out and do work outside..this is not fun but again my heart goes out to those closer to the fires. Some events have been cancelled here due to the smoke but others are going to carry on. Toronto which tops the world now for poor air quality is still having their fireworks. :idiot2:
Good late morning! I sympathize with those suffering. I remember the 2004 and 2005 record fire seasons where it felt as if everyone had been evacuated here, and people were asked to take in others due to the scarcity of places available.
Numerous places were opened around the city to house those with asthma or other breathing issues temporarily. There was a smoke pall and fire smell everywhere, smoke was even seen in homes and the air was yellow. You moved in a little yellow bubble. I came home one day to find one of my cats dead in the bathtub from the pervasive smoke. Everyone was coughing, but nothing closed. And that was only 6.59 million acres, "only" used in comparison with what's going on now in Canada's 23 million burnt acres.
Not the picture I want in my head, Patricia. Poor kitty.
Just as my cold started to clear off, my ears got plugged up and have been since all this smoke started. My nose is pretty stuffy this afternoon, but no sneezing or coughing, eyes are a bit dry. I've been staying in for the most part. We are having another level red warning today. But I really can't smell it.
Today was very muggy. Right now, it is 84 degrees. Air Quality is at 155. That is little lower than yesterday, but it felt a little worse for breathability than when I was outside for a few minutes this afternoon. Must be the humidity is up more today. Tomorrow will be slightly cooler.
Another way is to consider that what we had in 2004 is only about 30% of what Canada is presently facing.
I hope you're feeling better tomorrow and that the cooler expected weather comes through for you.
Our sunny weather has returned to those puffy clouds, but we're in the seventies.
Good Night Everyfriend! My hair is cut and I picked up a couple things at WM after my haircut! I'm ready for tomorrow!
I sure wish this air would clear! Sleep well with your windows all closed! God bless us, every one!
