Good morning, cool and in the mid-twenties here in the Interior. Slowly melting snow has that softer look, and the road has that pre rusty brown to slush look. We're to remain in the twenties all month, but since this city is bound and bisected by five rivers and the Interior has three major rivers, The Yukon, the Koyukuk, and the Kuskokwim,   fed by thousands of tributaries that create networks of water connections through the boreal forest.

So, as much as I and others might wish otherwise, a slow melt is a good thing. Ice jams create floods that create damage and refugees, and we become their destination. The rich black glacial soil, old-grown forests, and all that water create all those rich and healthy crops prized so much. Spring floods and summer fires, all part of that ecology, are necessary but not looked forward to or needed by man.

All that current spring weather and animal awakenings you have south of us are what the Arctic sees in mid-April to early May.

Jane, Lloyd, my DNA, according to ancestry also says I have 4% Norwegian and 2% Swedish and that accounts for those Vikings raiders that loved the ancient Irish coast and rich monasteries with all that gold plate.

Jane, that soup is so good on slow cold, snowy mornings! Now, you know, it's a prime comfort soup.

Snow, rain, more snow to be followed by more rain. Not sure if tomorrow will bring a dance or skating?
Not a good day to be outside for any length of time.
Jane, when you find a moment would you post your soup recipe please?

Day is Done....

AMY, Cooper is going to sleep with me tonight and Frankie is ready for bed so I'll post the soup recipe tomorrow.  I had another bowl of it for my supper and it was awesome!  I have 2 more pints in the fridge!

We had a heavy rainstorm accompanied by heavy winds but the wind wasn't as bad here as it was on the other side of the mountains.  Thank goodness for that!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

I saw this bit from Yellowstone about tourists seeing a "rare animal" crossing the road. It said Yellowstone might have as many as seven wolverines in the park boundaries. The article said they were very excited!

This was very strange to me as we have many, many wolverines in the state. They are known as devil bears because they are vengeful and have long memories. I guess I expected Colorado to have its own healthy population.

Good morning..

Music for the dancing is warming up.

Will take Kyle to pick up more lumber today at some point in time..

Not sure what mischief I will get into but I am sure I will find something. Still looking for a pattern for the two jelly rolls and hope to find one soon.

Gloria, hope you are back in here soon!

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's already in the 40s todayand supposed to reach the 60s by noontime.  But just to keep us on the alert, Mother Nature is sending us some snow tomorrow.  I have a feeling it won't last long on the ground.

PATRICIA, that's amazing about the Wolverines in Yellowstone.  I've been there with my Girl Scouts 6 times and I never saw one.  They must be new arrivals.

I have to "get on my horse" and get moving.  Cooper is ready for his walk and I'm not dressed yet.  I have beds to make and other "stuff" to do!  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Yesterday was a terrible day.  I have a very large apartment complex a few hundred feet behind me and when I looked out my back window around 2:30 I saw huge flames shooting out of a third floor apartment.  I called 911 immediately and they said it had been reported and fire trucks were on the way.  It turned into a 3 alarm fire, trapped several people who had to jump from balconies.  Several people were injured and hospitalized including a 5 year old child who died.  An entire building consisting of 12 apartments has been destroyed.  I think we had every fire truck and emergency vehicle in town respond.  They fought it for a long time and even left some police and fire responders there all night checking to make sure it didn't rekindle.  All we could do was stand at our back window and watch.

And then, I looked out the front window only to see an ambulance in front of my next door neighbor's house and another responder parked in front of mine.  I watched them carry my neighbor out to the ambulance.  I don't know what happened to him but he is in bad health anyway and I suspect the worry and excitement of a fire so close to us may have brought on a heart attack, or something like that.

Selfishly, I worried that flying sparks would jump the creek and threaten the woods close to our houses and then threaten our house because we are only separated by about 200 feet from the large complex but the firemen kept it contained.

It was a very upsetting day for the whole neighborhood and even more so when we learned that a child died.  I feel so terrible for all of the people who have lost everything.  I was up and down all night looking over to the apartment buildings but the police and fire dpt. were patrolling it all night long to make sure it didn't re-kindle.

I have nothing more to say except....

Take care, All.

Patricia, I saw that article & stopped to read. When we were there I jumped out of the camper every time I got a chance & wound my way to a spot that over looked the lake at those gorgeous Tetons, no thought to small dangerous critters around. We were warned to not even throw out dish water because the smell could attract bears. We didn't really have camp sites, just parked along the road they told us. The motorhome across from us ran their generator all night (against the rules) we had a little fold down camper at the time.

Lloyd, hope you get a chance to go but watch those tires. I was horrified when we got back from Colorado the last trip, ended up buying 4 new tires for the back & had the front tires replaced the year before. Had the front end alignment done & the tires still look new. Guess it's been 2 years since insurance paid to have a new rubber roof put on after a hail storm. Hate to sell it but don't want to put it in storage & not have it ready to roll at any time. I plug it in to charge at least one week a month & run the generator once a month.... do what I can to play safe. Time to get oil changed (once a year but usually less than 5,000 miles).

Time to eat... been up a couple hours already & nothing to show for the time. Been watching the birds, have a yard full of robins, snow birds, sparrows & cardinals & been seeing the little house finches with their red heads. So glad to get the taxes taken care of but am sad to have to clean out the motorhome to get rid of it. Gotta do what we gotta do, right?  :banghead:   :dontknow:

Oh, my goodness, Phyllis, I had goose bumps on my arms thinking about your day! How awful. I would have had the same reacion of worrying about sparks flying. You are right about that could cause a heart attack... Take a Bayer 325 to take the edge off, works for me. Until they get all repaired you will be reminded every time you look out the window. Hope your neighbor is okay & so sorry about the child & parents. Take care of you.

Phyllis, --- Not a selfish thing to do at all. IMHO - A very wise thing to do. Who could be more vigilant than a concerned neighbor.  Checking all night also a wise move. It is not uncommon after a big fire for a unit be left to monitor the scene and take care of any flare ups.  Sad about all that suffered but mostly the 5 year old - never had a chance at life  :(

Now - you relax and get your own rest so you don't follow your neighbor.

Good morning EVERYFRIEND 🦋

🥶🥶 out there this morning, but we have sunshine and the day is to warm up to 32°‼️ It does look mighty pretty with the snow glistening ❄️❄️❄️

PHYLLIS, I am so sorry and sad to read your news of the horrible happenings in your neighborhood yesterday.  I, too, would have been concerned about the sparks causing another fire.  Our local news covers the damaged homes caused from the wild fire on New Years Eve in Boulder, CO.  SO many homes were under insured.  They have not even arranged for any of the debris to be taken away yet....my heart aches for all of the many families involved.  Last night they were telling of a man that was told by his insurance company that his home was safe enough to move back in and yet the  particulates  were  so bad in the air he could not be in the house without a super duper fancy mask😡 How frightening. Can you even imagine living n your home with all of the burned to the ground homes all around you?

SHIRLEY, how sad to think about you being forced to sell your motor home? I understand why you would not want to have it stored elsewhere. 😩

PATRICIA, I have not seen anything implying we have those Wolverines, AKA devil bears, in Colorado.  I will do a search 🔍.

AMY, I hope your shopping trip is successful today.

JANE, you make sure you keep a movng around and don't be letting and grass grow under your feet for goodness sakes🥰🥰

I wish you ALL a wonderful day.

The day did not go as planned but so far has turned out nice. Snow was cleaned up,laundry on the go and vacuuming and floors washed. Kyle said to leave the lumber as we had a fellow wanting to stop and pick up one of his saws. After many emails back and forth we finally met the nice man behind them and he is now on the road home.

Phyllis, that  would be scary and my heart goes out to the parents and family of that little girl. Life is so precious.

Jenny, enjoy your time with your Dad.

Better go see what I can get out of doing..didn't work that well this morning.. :2funny:

Good morning from the Interior. We did get up to plus 30 late yesterday afternoon so we'll see if it occurs again this cooler week. I had an uneasy, wakeful night as the snowplows worked the street below and the next one most of the early morning. This included periodically lowering the blade and scraping it down to the pavement. I understand working at night to avoid traffic, but what about those of us trying to sleep between 2 and 4 AM!?

Phyllis, I feel so sad for the parents losing that young child! How awful for everyone involved in that destruction. I know I wouldn't be able to sleep worrying and sad.

Jane, wolverines were once plentiful everywhere in North America, and now I find that they're endangered in the lower forty-eight states and Canada, rare except for a few eastern portions of Canada. They're not endangered in Alaska but their numbers are low. A wolverine, the size of a dog, can take down a caribou and can sniff out animals denning 20 feet down. They have long memories and will seek revenge.

There is a story about a trapper killing and skinning a female wolverine. THe male followed him for years, destroying his campsites, urinating on his food supplies, and attacking him at times. I'm not sure this is only folklore as wolverines never seem to forget.

patricia19

Some other wolverine information."New information from genetic and observational studies shows that wolverines in the lower 48 are connected to populations in Canada and Alaska, these populations interact on some level, and migration and breeding is possible between groups. For example, wolverines in the North Cascades region of Washington are known to move into British Columbia."

"It is estimated there are fewer than 400 wolverines left today in the U.S. outside of Alaska. As with other animals in the park, climate change threatens the species. Wolverines make dens in snow..."

"Wolverines are perhaps the wildest of American mammals. How big are Wolverines? The adult wolverine is about the size of a medium dog, with a length usually ranging from 65-107 cm (26-42 in), a tail of 17-26 cm (6.7-10.2 in), and a weight of 5.5-25 kg (12-55 lb), though exceptionally large males can weigh up to 32 kg (71 lb)."

"Wolverines are found throughout the Northern hemisphere. In North America, they live in boreal forests, tundra, and alpine habitats throughout Alaska and Canada. The southern portion of their range includes alpine regions in Washington, Oregon, California, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, and Utah."

Thanks to all of you for your sympathy.  There were large numbers of people at the burned out building yesterday....perhaps insurance people, also fire inspectors trying to determine what caused the fire.  This is the second fire at this complex in the past month so I'm sure they are very concerned as to why two fires happened in the same complex so close together.  The neighborhood is rallying around those who lost everything and, of course, special concern for the family who lost their child along with everything they owned.  Red Cross is involved, also, and helping those who were displaced.  My sub-division, Walnut Ridge, has put out a call for donations of anything that we can give....mostly clothing, etc.

I'm happy to say that my next door neighbor survived his heart attack.  He was operated on immediately and a stent was put in place.  His daughter says he is doing well.  I'm grateful for some good news.

I still had a restless night last night but I will have a nap and catch up today.  I tried to read but couldn't keep my mind on the story so I played a lot of Solitaire on my Galaxy pad.  :)  It is rainy and dreary today so won't go out for anything.  I just hope that the severe storms and possible tornadoes that the weather people are predicting doesn't happen.  Fingers and toes are crossed.

Thanks again for you kind messages.  Take care, All.

I think Winter is making it's last effort to get us.  It's snowing real hard but large wet flakes. It's not sticking and I think it has been, and is, too warm for anything bad.  The weather guesser says it should continue for about twelve hours (at last guess). Today will be a lazy day - watch and enjoy the sight of falling snow, feed some critters, and listen to some nice music. I shale gladly worry about the other stuff on Tuesday (sounds familiar. Who said that?).

[color=black Good afternoon everyone. I never had so much trouble signing in. My grandson always worked it so no sign in with PW. I know he has one more time coming here for something and hope he gets that like I am used to.
Been a busy day. One of the CNAs I like was here and 2 batches of laundry done and bathroom all clean and sparkling again. Don't think she sat 2 minutes in the 3 hours she was here. We did have some laughs and teasing. My son bought me a round corned beef Saturday. Always liked the round best, no waste and makes wonderful sandwiches. I put it on to cook before Fran got here because I knew I would never be able to get it off the stove and out of the pan. After cooled some she cut the small end off and cut it up and we both were eating those pieces up, very tasty and tender. I have a nice Rye bread and for supper I will thinly slice enough for a sandwich with some tasty mustard, just a tad hot. Been years since we had the corned rounds here. Mostly the flat or point cut and full of fat.
It is now 2:47 pm, looked out the window and saw beautiful white flakes floating around. Went to the window and saw the cars covered already so must have been snowing for awhile.
Someone mentioned I must be frustrated I think I have been more than frustrated. Besides no PC had some lazy dirty looking excuse for  CNAs one who came in and sat at the table, took out her phone and started playing. I told her to put the phone away and go into the bathroom and wash her hands, she said she just did. She said downstairs. There is a public toilet across from the elevator. Ok I asked what she touched on the way up. Door handles, elevator buttons the rail in the elevator, OK any germs on that stuff? No they all looked clean. Have you heard on the news all the reminders for everyone to wash their hands often to make sure they are nor passing covid around on their dirty hands. NO that is all lies, no such thing as covid. I told her to either wash he hands and do her job or leave. She left. I called the office and told them what happened. That was not the worse one either.

By the way it is my GRANDson keeping me going on computers When he was here Sunday he had his son with him and even at 6 1/2 first thing he did was go wash his hands And use paper towels to dry his hands and then use the sanitizer I have out for everyone to use That he has been doing at home for a long time and at school they are taught to keep washing their hands and using the sanitizer.

Almost time for my date on Skype at 4 so hope I can read a few more posts tomorrow.
