"Where there's a Will (Janie), there's a Way!"  Great Job, Miss J.

My neighborhood - including my yard - looks really weird with sheets, newspapers and such covering all the shrubs and the bedding plants some put in last Saturday, when it was 80ยบ.  Hasn't gotten above 45 today, we're supposed to have a hard freeze tonight - and a dusting of snow tomorrow morning.  :idiot2:

My third-grader great niece in Texas is being "home schooled" by her teacher Mom right now.  Her Mom texted that she is learning to write letters and needed a pen pal.  Of course, Great-Aunt Callie was glad to help.  I got the first letter from her on Friday.  She did a really good job and included a comment about a book she'd read - then asked a family history question that went along with the story.
So I've spent the afternoon looking in genealogy albums to be sure I had the details right and writing a reply.
I told her I'd read "Mary Poppins" and "The Story of Dr. Doolittle" when I was her age and asked if she'd seen the movies.  Then I told her the actors sure don't look like the illustrations in the old books.

Phyllis,  love all your suggestions for using ham.  I really like ham loaf and have several good recipes for it.  Do you grind your own ham when you make it?  We used to be able to buy a ham and have some of it ground by the meat department but now I'm told they only prepare fresh ground pork - no "off the shelf" .

Years ago, I went on a tour with the OKC Museum of Art to see a "Faberge In America" exhibit in New Orleans. Items were Faberge items owned by Americans. The brochure (yes, I have a scrapbook  ;) ) says "A stunning collection of nearly 400 precious objects, including 15 of the legendary Imperial Easter eggs..."    I have a post card with a picture of one that had a miniature stagecoach inside.

Hope Everyfriend Everywhere has had as Merry a Monday as possible.
Onward and Upward....

Thanks everyone for the back pats!  it gave me a good feeling to "figger it out for myself" in the words of my 6 year old daughter who is still "figgering it out for herself" all the way down in Texas.

GOOD NIGHT AND SWEET DREAMS TO ALL OF YOU!

JaneS now you know first hand like CallieOK told you where there is a way there a will . when I had my jaw broke and wired mouth shut ( that year  we had a lot of peaches canned) I of course could not open my mouth to bite on the food. so I borrowed a blender quart jar fits right on the blinder cuter Knifes. so liquefied the peaches, and sucked them through a straw. Gained weight also. in spite of that I still love to eat peaches. just do not eat them as steady or regular as or that, but dose not bother me to eat them three or four times a week for dessert. good night and sweet dreams.

Callie, I'll grind the ham providing I can find my old-fashioned hand cranked grinder.  I could grind it in the Kitchen Aid with the grinding attachment but that is so heavy I can't move it anymore.  As a last result I could use the food processor even though I don't like the consistency of the finished product as much.  I managed to get all of the ham separated into smaller portions, wrapped and into the freezer.  What a job but we have several weeks of ham to use now.  Also, today I found an on-line source for mixed dried beans for ham and bean soup and ordered 2 lbs. to be mailed to me.  I tried to get dried beans here in the store but not available.

I told David that I have become food obsessed!  :o  And now that I am reading in the news that the meat supply is becoming endangered I am even more aware of the need to keep the freezer well stocked.  I'm not hoarding because I don't have the room to store huge stockpiles of stuff but I want to keep bare spots from appearing, if I can.

Take care, All.

Hello everyone, YIPEE my Cox just came back on. We had a slorm with heavy rain and very strong winds. TV, Computer and phone went out about 3 pm and it just came on now  at  11:15. I wonder what my daughter thought when I was ot on Skype and couldn't call me either.
I was really going crazy with nothing to do or to read either. All I had was the games I have on the computer. Then they were sluggish and jumpy so no fun there either.
My CNA will be here soon so do t have much time to chat. Phone just rang and like a dope I picked it up - a sales pitch so I hung up. Glad to hear it ring though and know it is working again.

Have a good day and keep safe.

Good Morning,

Weather news last night showed snow falling not too far north of me.  Today isn't quite as cold as I expected. Not sure we actually had the hard freeze predicted for last night.

Years and years ago, there was a humor book titled "What To Do When There's Nothing To Do".  The only suggestion I remember is "Fling open the screen door and see how far you can run before it slams shut."
That wouldn't work today.....in so many ways!!!!  ;D

Phyllis,  my mother had a meat grinder that fastened onto the kitchen counter.  Not sure I could turn the handle if I had it today.  I agree about trying to grind meat in the food processor.  It's more like paste.  I do have a ham steak that's way too big for one meal.  I suppose the Project du Jour could be to cut it in - maybe thirds - and do something different with each piece.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere as much of an Enjoyable Day as possible.

Onward and Upward...

I've adopted a new line to live by, thanks to my friends in this forum. if I choose to try doing something fo myself I tell myself "Where there's a will, there's a way"  thank you, Callie for that!

this morning I managed to get out my electric frying pan and I cooked up the rest of the pound of bacon and did two round eggs for egg mcmuffin. I had one of them for lunch.  then I baked an Impossible Coconut CUSTARD PIE.  I needed my will for this one because I almost gave up when I remembered i'd have a full pie plate of liquid to move from the counter to the oven with one hand!  but I got out a cookie sheet, lined it with aluminum foil, set it on the oven rack added the pie plate and filled it there!  anyone for a piece of pie?

now i'm ready for a nap!

been wondering about MaryAnn.  ANY NEWS?

Carol

We had a record setting temperature of 11 degrees.  Nothing to be proud of - of course, my first thoughts are of the huge number of people in tents and the children.

Gloria:  Thank you for the beautiful card.  So thoughtful!

Jenny:  I wonder if the bagpiper couldn't get through the gate?  I hope you two can stay warm in the house and rest up - thinking of you and all the challenges.

I am taking all this "down time" and trying to make myself organize one spot or closet at a time.  I need to pick up prescriptions and darn - have to enter the store I suppose.  the worst thing in when people want to stand close - that has always been annoying to me.  I suppose it is all the Scandinavian blood  :D

Well, the snow did stop and the roads seemed a bit better. Highway lads were salting the roads when I left for town. Work is almost done on the vehicle..need a new gas cap and will get that on Thur.

I did try to shop at 7 am but the line up was way around the building and I had an 8 am appointment. May try tomorrow morning be there for 7 for the 8 am opening?? Gosh this is no fun.

Just had a call from my niece...they are in their new home and on the second day fell down the stairs and now has a badly sprained ankle. The Dr told her he hasn't seen a sprain as bad as what she has.

Jane, good going!! Just don't over do it and set yourself back..pie sounds yummy!!

Thanks for the link to the photo of Mary Ann, she is looking good and hope will be back to visiting with us soon.

Amy, I had a bad sprain with whole foot and ankle (Dr said may have cracked a bone but couldn't see it)... since I was planning a trip to the mountains I soaked it with Epsom salt really good & was mended faster than expected. That was the last time I tried sticking the whole foot & ankle in a tub of water. I learned it worked just as well wrapping a towel soaked in strong Epsom salt around, then putting the foot/ankle into a plastic bag & wrap the heat pad over that. Watch TV for a couple hours  & repeat using same salt & towel as often as possible. When Cas got "tennis elbow" in his wrist he would soak for couple hours while watching TV & no pain next morning when he wanted to play golf. It really does work. If it can get rid of a brown spider bite and leave no scar, you know it is powerful.

Sweet dreams, I am worn to a frazzle tonight so off to bed.
