ODE TO A MOCKING BIRD
By David E. Shearer
Sing out, sing out, sweet mocking bird,
From your lofty tree top perch.
I wonder if you sing for joy,
Or is life an endless search,
To discover who you really are,
With no song of your own.
Do You copy all the other birds,
To pretend you're not alone?
When late at night or early dawn,
You prepare your repertoire.
Be it full moon, street light, shooting star,
You rehearse your Aria'.
Then like an actor playing parts,
Your throat the sounds engage,
As you begin your great performance,
From you high and worldly stage.
Your concert fills my heart with joy,
Sweeter sounds I've never heard,
So it matters not the reason,
Just sing on sweet mocking bird.
LIFE
The horse and mule live 30 years
And nothing know of wines and beers.
The goat and sheep at 20 die
And never taste Scotch or Rye.
The cow drinks water by the ton
And at 18 is mostly done.
The dog at 15 cashes in
Without the aid of rum or gin.
The cat in milk and water soaks
And then at 12 short years it croaks.
The modest, sober, bone-dry hen
Lays eggs for noggs, then dies at 10.
All animals are strictly dry:
They sinless live and swiftly die;
But sinful, ginful, rum-soaked men
Survive for threescore years and 10.
And some of them, a very few,
Stay pickled till they are a 100 and 2.
"If you hear a voice within you say 'you cannot paint,' then by all means paint and that voice will be silenced."
Vincent Van Gogh
Sounds Of Words Forgotten
by Putney
There are sounds on the wind
that tell me of you.
The night has a voice,
and I hear you there too.
Sometimes a shout,
more often a sigh.
The language not spoken,
but known from days bye.
I want to remember,-
to recite every line.
Hold fast the meaning,
and make it all mine.
Tho I know what you're saying,-
on the wind, and the night.
By morning, and stillness,-
I doubt that I'm right.
Good Morning Everyfriend!
BUBBLE, Thank you for cleaning us all up again. I'm a poetry lover so all those neat poems went straight to my heart! You do such a good job here and I'm so glad to know you!
I'm going to go get dressed and take Cooper for a walk. It's already daylight here and heading for the mid 7os later today. However, there's going to be some rain in the late afternoon but it's coming with the higher temps so I can handle that.
I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!
Good morning
Starting off at 54° and heading towards a thunderstorm later on today.
Planted our potatoes yesterday, and just have a few more seeds to put in but will wait till threat of frost is over. Besides, today is a much needed day of rest.
Jane ,each day I eye up the rhubarb and I would think after a day of rain it will sprout enough to make your rhubarb juice. I was reading up on the benefits of rhubarb and it covers a wide area!
Bubble, thank you....you always do a beautiful new start.
Time to get ready to meet the day.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good morning everyone, my AC is in and my 2 sons were here working together, love seeing that. When I pulled up my shades this morning I saw one other one was installed, too. That lady is like me and cannot tolerate heat. After2 miserable nights of not sleeping last night I slept great, even had a light blanket on all night. When Bill called me on Friday he asked if I wanted the AC installed and of course I said yes. Any thing over the mid 70's is too hot for me and add the humidity and I need to cool off.
PHYLLIS antibiotics work great when the one providing them knows what they are doing. When a CNA told me last Wednesday that same dentist was doing the same thing to her husband as she did with me. He called about a possible infection after she pulled a tooth out. He called and she sent in a script to the pharmacy for the anti biotic, he took them all and still not cleared up so she sent another one to the pharmacy and this CNA knows enough about them after what happened to me and she noticed the new ones he got were more that twice the strength of the first ones she had him take. He called his doctor to ask about it and was told NOT to take them. That dumb dentist needs to go back and learn more about the profession she picked and the right pills and strengths to use. I am still scared of finding a different dentist to get the rest of my teeth out. I know they have to come out but how to find one I can trust now?
PATRICIA I did not notice it was a Friday the 13th until the afternoon but I am not superstitious and had a brother a SIL and a BIL all born on a Friday the 13th and always said that was a lucky day for them. This building and 2 others are owned by the same group. Only one time since I have been here did some of that group come and talk to some of the tenants they met walking around in here. I don't think any of the senior housing buildings here are owned by the state.
SHIRLEY beautiful work Jack did with that new program. I love wide open spaces and my daughter takes after me, just thinking of where they are now living and no matter what direction she looks in she sees mountain ranges in the distance. Love the photos of all the birds but especially the Cardinals.
JANE like you I don't know why I have lived this long, in my family no one lived beyond 72 or 73 and here I am at 91. WHY? There is a lot I would like to do but the body is pretty w ell worn out and it says no no. I always took pleasure in having a clean home, washing, polishing, dusting etc. I loved to cook and bake and now I cannot do any of those things. So why am I still here, makes no sense to me.
AMY HAPPY ANNIVERSARY to you and Kyle. You still on your Honeymoon? My oldest son and DIL will be celebrating 48 years on the 25th. Does not seem possible that many years.
SHIRLEY I would never turn down mashed potatoes, could make of meal of just that.
BUBBLE love your western graphic, hope that miner was looking at gold. Love the Ode to a Mocking bird. Only heard one once. Woke listening to it. Thought it was about time to get up in the morning, was very light out and could hear all the birds waking up. Laid there listening and it dawned on me the sounds were all coming from the same direction. Looked at the alarm clock and it was 1:30 am. There was a full moon that night. Life is good, I am not 102 and I am not pickled either so where do I fit in? Thank you for today's goodies.
boy am I messed up this morning. Thought it was Monday, turned on the TV for the local overnight news and it wasn't on. some crazy selling commercial. Changed channels and nothing I am used to seeing was on. Wondered if every thing was changed and they did not let us know. Very quiet here, too. Dawned on me at last it is Sunday- not mid week.
Time for a second cup of coffee and maybe I can drink this one while it is at least warm and not cold.
Have a good day and stay safe.
So far here it's another grey day. The ground is very wet so it must have rained. Warnings about thunder storms for tomorrow with a chance of a tornado. Unusual for here. But then the heat will move in.
I'm here. I'm trying to use voice input instead of texting. It takes a little practice I'm learning. I haven't had breakfast yet. I'll be back later. Take care, all.
Light rain here after a roll of thunder. THANK YOU JANE for the information on Rescue, gave Babe some and she has stopped her shaking.
Rick, hope you do not get the tornado!! We are 63° at the moment , C/A has been turned off for the time being.
:hello:
:walkwhistle: "It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood" even if it is :hot:.
Hope Everyone finds something to Enjoy.
:hello: :sun: :study:
Good evening. Busy day around here getting our patio cleaned up for the season. We started early power washing the furniture, cushions and then the deck. It took us hours and we are tired. Yesterday we planted flowers in all the pots. Another big job. Hopefully we can begin to enjoy some nice patio time.
GLORIA, sure glad your sons got your A/C installed. It has been pretty warm here but we have not needed the air yet. We still are having the awful winds. Not good for all the wild fires that are burning 🥵
AMY, belated HAPPY ANNIVERSARY wishes to you and Kyle. What restraint....saying no mashed potatoes 🤪🤪🤪. Turkey, stuffing need mashed potatoes ‼️
JANE, happy to read you and your sister had a nice visit together. Now you are back and jumping right back into your routine.
Hope EVERYFRIEND will have a good night of rest.
Jenny
Good Morning Everyfriend! I took off for the haystack without even checking out of S&F last night! I was so tired all I could think of was that comfortable haystack.
We had rain overnight and it's so foggy I couldn't even see my hand in front of my face if I was out in it. I hope it clears fast because Frankie has to drive in it to get here and then to work!
DENVER/JENNY, it was so nice to open up and see you here! It sounds like you're ready to enjoy some "outside time" on you patio. I've already had a little time on my porch swing and I love it out there! Enjoy yours!
Today, Cooper will be here to join me so I better get a move on and be ready for him. I love having him here. He fills an empty spot in my heart!
My trip west was supposed to begin with Cindy's arrival this past weekend but due to the time wasted by the contractor, the work on her house isn't finished yet so we're being flexible and will start when she's ready.
Christy is coming up this weekend from Maryland and they are in the process of ending the lives of some of their older chickens who can't produce eggs any more. Her husband called me yesterday to find out how many I wanted so I could make chicken broth to can. We ended up with him sending me enough to can 8 quarts of broth to keep on hand for recipes. Sounds good to me so we'll be busy with that project later this week!
I guess I better go get dressed so I can meet Cooper when he arrives. I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow. And I hope you all had a restful night!
Good morning...
Woke to the sound of rain falling. Picking a few things up in town this morning then home to see what needed to be done first.
Folks picked up their trugs yesterday.........first trip they brought their Bernese Mountain dog and the second trip they brought their Standard Poodle. Next came friends to drop off "stuff" and I gave them "stuff" and they left their dogs at home :( Sent dog treats home with them.
Jane, many years ago I worked on a farm during school holidays and the lady there would take old hens.soak them in water with baking soda ,then roast the next day......they were delicious! Meat wasn't tough and they were flavour packed!
Jenny, thank you. Hope you can relax today after all the work yesterday.
Gloria, for the past ywo days it has been a stinker. I am so glad we have the C/A and if it breaks another one will be put in. I see our Flowering Crabapple tree is full of bud and soon it will be dressed in pink blossoms.
Lloyd, good morning to you and Nancy.
Patricia.. :hello: :cup:
Better get dressed for the day.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Hey, AMY, that sounds interesting about the chicken in baking soda. Maybe I'll try to find it with amounts and time on line....unless you already know that! And maybe I'll ask for another chicken to try that out!
good morning AMY an evryone else that follow. I had a good post made and the grilmens got it. so here we go again, I went to VA yesterday, they scolded me for comming on sunday, they seam to think you can not get sick or hurt on sunday. but they seen me and put a patch on my chest monetering my heart. it is suposed to be in place for seven days I do not know what the plan is after that. they shaved the hair oll of of that aeria . and glewed the patch on that monerters my heart. well I am watching the barn swallos come and go , they are very bussy again today building building on there new nest. Have a great day everyone. sun is very bright this morning. rained very hard in me yesterday as I went to VA, but here at the house we only got 1/2" in the gage. so I should be abel to push the planter and plant seeds in th garden on the ground. we have , letietcs, carrets, redashes, beans, peas, cabbage ,culaflower, and tamatoes in the raised beds and mabey some that I can not think of now.Have agood day.
Lloyd
I am back again, yestery day I picked up some gerocerys at sam,s club. I got one pork loin, the one that is about 4" in dieameter and 30" long. I cut it up in slices about 5/8" thick. I usualy stop about 4-5" from the end. but got carried away and did not keep enough for a roaste. so I cut the last part and some of the stakes up into stew meat. Nancy is it the ketchien , Makeing ster fry out of it. oh well it all goes to my wasteline any way. I seam to be on a sea food dieat, see food and eate it. Have a good day.
Lloyd
Good morning everyone. I noticed yesterday -late afternoon another AC was in a window. Not the big one she has but a smaller one in her living room. I know she has trouble getting someone to put the big one in her bedroom. She sleeps in her recliner so maybe she will be OK with that smaller one. She is a nice lady and was the life of the party when we were on the porch or in the library in the cold months. Now we seldom see her, a different group now but still very pleasant. 64° and I have the bedroom window open but the AC was on all night, did not run the whole time. Took awhile for me to remember the settings I used last year so it goes a little under what I have the temperature to set at so it goes off when it reaches that. Was comfortable all day. Just saw the local weather, yesterday it was more than 20 degrees warmer here than at the airport near the ocean where they have the "official" temperature.
RICK yesterday they said we had a chance of thunder storms last night but nothing happened, no even a drop of rain. Like many places we could use some rain, getting very dry and warnings on TV about no burning or any kind of grilling outside. My daughter and SIL have a weather station at their house-not an official one and yesterday she emailed me picture she took of the humidity there. It read 1-ONE. That is way too dry. Sure hope everyone there in Arizona is careful.
CALLIE I had some thing to be happy about. My sons installed my AC Saturday so was comfortable with the first of the hot temperature of the season.
JENNY with only 2 windows in these apartments and mine are facing south-west get the sun the hottest part of the day, all afternoon till sunset. No breeze at night around here so I really need the AC to be able to sleep. I don't think there is much-if any-insulation in these walls. I know in the winter the walls are cold.
JANE I envy you and Amy and my daughter with all the canning you do. If I could still can like I used to I would have no place to keep the jars. I can cook few things that freeze good but the freezer is not big. Both sons try talking me into TV dinners but they are full of preservatives and some burn my throat.
AMY you know how deep a blue the sky is when the humidity is really low? That is how the sky is here now. Always reminds me of the color of my Mom's eyes. No rain here today
JANE back before WW2 my Mom had an egg/chicken man and he continued to supply us with both during the war. One thing she did with an old chicken was make chicken Fricassee (sp). We all liked it and I made it once and of course my husband asked if I was serving him garbage. The kids and I enjoyed it but I never made it again. His mother was a terrible cook. Friday was cans of Franco American spaghetti a can of tuna and cut up green pepper casserole. Just thinking about it upsets my tummy.
LLOYD wish I had a see food diet. I see food and my hunger is gone.
Have a good day everyone and stay safe.
Good morning from a still raining Interior. We did have cloudy skies yesterday instead of all white, giving us hope. But then the rain began again—nothing heavy here, just steady. There's been some low-level flooding from frozen culverts melting to ice jammed sloughs and low-lying areas by rivers. The ice melts further north and rises in sheets to float downstream, only to jam and flood further downriver.
We've had the greening overnight; everything leafs out within an hour, but I've never been in the right place to see it as some have, just the results. We had forty for a low, forty-five presently, and later sixties promised by Friday. Another new record for a cold spring.
Gloria, we have the same here. The official temperature is taken by the southwest airport, surrounded by a river and several floatplane ponds. Interestingly, the coldest temperatures lie at the southern end of this city, and as you move east, it sometimes rises by as much as eight to ten degrees, no two blocks the same.
Since they replaced the windows and balconies, we don't have the air whistling in from the cracks. But, I share others' alarms on the pooling melt, then rainwater. It has to evaporate with no place to run off, which may be a problem down the road.
I was supposed to have a quarterly subscription box, my last on Friday the thirteenth. According to the USPS tracking number, it had already stalled due to supply chain issues and spent two days in Washington state, with another 28 hours in Anchorage over the weekend. Today it is "promised" by nine pm.
I canceled the subscription; although I've enjoyed the offerings curated seasonally with always skincare, a wine glass, a hardback book, mittens in winter, beach straw hat and coverup last summer, and other seasonally appropriate items, I'm no longer subscribing. I can order on my own if needed, but this is extraneous stuff I don't need.
JANE, your talk about chicken made me think of what I had in the fridge and is now sitting in the singing canner for 9o min. I was going to freeze but this way (more work) is better. Just grab a jar and finish it off the way you want.
We did have some nice rain and then the lightening and thunder came. Jane, your Rescue came out and now Babe is ok.......not panting or shaking.
Almost time for a break.
The sun has yet to come out, but it's warmed ten degrees; last night, greening occurred ( a time when everything for miles around spontaneously bursts into bloom within sixty minutes or less); and warming more after twice setting records for a cold delayed spring. It's presently 47 at 11:48. I posted an 11:06 Pm sunset in photos, and we're on our way to summer's 24/7 daylight.
https://www.seniorsandfriends.org/index.php?msg=217987
Patrica...is it hard to adjust to 24/7 sunlight....I can't even imagine that.....CC
..meant daylight.......
I knew what you meant, CC! And we do hear that from newcomers and military families. However, think of it this way, I noticed at four years old, while we were visiting relatives in Colorado, and remember everyone laughing when I came in upset at sundown. They said I asked what was going on and they had to explain to me why the sun was going down. I evidently was very worried and asked my mom if the sun was mad at us!
It was the same for the 15 years I spent in the south while a military dependent. I always felt cheated.
Hello, Everyfriend! I had a return appt with the surgeon who did my jaw surgery last Novembember. He said it's healing "great" and he doesn't have to see me again until late August or sometime in September! That made me AND my daughter, Cathy feel great!
I got some stuff out of the freezer last night and stuck it in the fridge to make something today and it turned out to be something I didn't think it was. The meat was ok but I thought the other package was mixed veggies and it turned out to be mixed sliced peppers from my SIL. So I put the chopped up beef in the crockpot with some broth and seasonings, let it cook for a while and added a jar of my canned potatoes and the sliced peppers and later added some peas and boy is it ever good. I don't know what to call it, though. Surprise Soup? Beef Whatever? Good Stuff?
I'm going to finish cleaning up some stuff and then hit the hay early again tonight. I don't have my little buddy tomorrow because Frankie is off so I don't have to set the alarm. That means I'll be up early because it's natural for me!
I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow. And may God bless us, every one! And may He watch over the Ukrainians!
Good night and sweet dreams every one. JaneS sounds like what we used to make and called it Gulaish. that will woork if you Like to.
Lloyd
Jane, Pennsylvania Prep?
Good morning everyone.well this computer is all out of whack again this morning, saying no internet?
Lloyd
Good Morning Everyfriend! I'm up and attem and I don't have a doggie to look after!
LLOYD I can't call it what you suggested because it doesn't look or taste anything like the goulash we made all the years I went to Girl Scout camp and it doesn't look or taste like what my grandfather used to come up with.
PATRICIA, I kind of like Pennsylvania Prep but I think I'd shorten it to PA. Prep. It wouldn't take up as much space in the recipe book! I might have known our "recipe-a-holic" would come up with an acceptable name!
I'm going to do a little baking today. I have the stuff out to make some brownies and not much more planned for today! I'm still working on getting used to my email on this new computer. I thought I had it after Cathy put her hand and mind to it yesterday but I sent her one and she never got it so....back to work on that!
I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!
Good morning...
No rain..yet.
Need to pick up soil after getting the trug in the garden. May pick up tomato plants while the supply is there.
Jane, hot brownie with ice cream on top...brings a smile .Happy to read your good news!!! That too would bring a smile to both you and Cathy!
Need to rush this morning..
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good morning everyone. Weather guessers yesterday were saying thunderstorms last evening and ending near midnight. Not even a storm cloud showed up. We have that bright blue sky aging now but it is cooler, 58° and 75 for a high. I can take that OK.
PATRICIA one of my sons lives a little over 2 miles from me and it is a different temperature there -colder too. My other son lives 15 miles south of me and in the spring forsythia is in bloom there but just budding here and in winter people call this town the ice box of the state.
JANE at times throwing different food together ends up being good but we can never make the same thing a second time.
Woke late this morning and just looked at the time. Better get busy. lazy dirty hands will be here soon and want to be dressed before she gets here. Want t o put on something bright and cheerful. I still don't know if she only has one uniform or if everything she owns is black. I have to combat that dreary color anyway I can when she is here.
Have a good day and stay safe.

Shirley here is the link to Jack's gran-cat : Kimber, the Maine Coon
Good morning, I just finished my morning routine, and coffee's finished brewing. I've put chicken breasts out to thaw and I'm going to attempt Dora's Thai, Basil, & Sweet Chili stir-fry. It's basically chopped chicken, beef or seafood, sliced veggies such as onions, carrots, and long beans. Plus two cups of jasmine rice are cooked quickly, then added to cook with the rest with a small amount of oil in a wok. It's a great recipe to fool around with.
It's 40 degrees presently at seven forty-one in the morning with partly cloudy skies with a repeat possible of yesterday's afternoon rains.
The roads in the foothills are in bad shape, with many residents unable to navigate out of their driveways. "Potholes, eroded edges, and large cracks in the road: this is last winter's legacy in the Fairbanks North Star Borough." It continues, "We've had a number of road service areas that have been impacted very significantly by the winter storm and then two, the snowmelt," said borough Mayor Bryce Ward.
Ward added that in many remote areas around the borough, the situation is dire, with "overflowing ditches, culverts that have been frozen from the winter rain, and that's causing washouts and significant damage to the roadbed."
Some living in the hills can't even navigate in or out of their driveways.
Service Areas maintain these regions of the borough.
Residents within each Service Area pay taxes toward road maintenance. According to Ward, "Each of our road service areas is their own taxing jurisdiction, and so the revenue that's generated to pay for those road services are paid for by their residents."
Now, many of these areas are out of money. Ward said, "A number of those service areas have either extinguished all of their existing operating budgets and in some cases, that and their emergency reserves."
According to Ward, there's not much the borough can do, but they are looking into outside options. "We are having conversations with FEMA and the state emergency operations to talk about what options are available for our road service areas, but the options seem pretty slim."
Meanwhile, residents can report road issues to their Service Area Commissioners using the borough's reporting center."
Evidently, neither the city nor the borough has been prepared for two record-breaking snowy winters.
I'm glad I live on the city's edge, even without a view other than an older industrial area. The foothills, ridges, and domes are beautiful with close mountain views, but the land is wild, and plenty of black or grizzly bears looking to fatten after a long winter along with wolves, foxes, and other not so amiable critters.
Well, I'm heading for the haystack as soon as I'm finished here. Today was a busy one and tomorrow will be even busier. I have breakfast with my former high school classmates and then in the afternoon a dentist appointment. YUK!!
I've had two more suggestions for my "whatever it was I made". One was "Janie's Joy" and the the other one was "Mom's Meat Stuff". Of course there was a third; my son thinks I should just call it "What-cha-call-it"!
Now I'm heading out. I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one! And may he watch over the Ukrainians!
good Morning everyone. well I had a good sleep and am up and ready to face the day. I still do not reamber very well, so I do not reamber if I told you all or not, but I have a heart moniter fastened to my chest on the left side right to Left side of my heart, it has a speical cell phone sending activeity to va derictly. I am to wear it at least seven days. I have my regular head ace again this morning. Life is sure not fun any more,it would be alright with me if , god woud call me home any time.hope you all have a great day. JaneS put us to bed and I got us up today.
Lloyd
Good morning..
Foggy here ,no rain for today I hope. Will get the last trug moved into the garden area later on today.
Have nothing other than picking up soil and gardening today but one never knows how the day will play out.
Jane, enjoy your time out with your friends. Would Janie's Jumble be appropriate for your concoction?
Patricia, how did your stir fry turn out?
Shirley talked with my sister last night and she also has a Maine Coon cat.
Gloria, I don't think my strawberries made it through the winter. I am going to pull a few plants and see why no growth on them. :(
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good morning everyone. Slept with the window open last night with the cooler air coming in. At 7 this morning a loud noise woke me. Today is Wednesday and the landscapers are here making way too much noise for the neighborhood of mostly senior folks, not just the ones in this building.
I have time now for a nap before my good CNA gets here.
Have a good day and stay safe.
Good morning all! This morning I woke up at 4:15, and the room was daylit. I pulled up a blind and was gratified to see nary a cloud in sight or damp overnight streets. Satisfied, I went back to bed to sleep a few more hours, and here I am, coffee in hand.
Amy, Dora's recipe was delicious. I improvised with a few more spices and added green and red peppers and some small golden tomatoes. All told, it was something I'll make again with one difference. Due to my magpie sensibilities, I rarely do tasks the same way twice.
When I was growing up and my mother cleaned out the fridge and cooked it all together, we called it Slumgullion. Don't ask me why, Jane....that's just what it was called.
My younger son and dil got home from the cruise. The cruise was wonderful but the trip home exhausted them. They texted me about 6 a.m. and told me they were home and going to bed!
Take care, All. Maybe I'll find some time tomorrow to write more. Yesterday was a bad day for my body :dizzy: and today I was busy all day trying to get caught up with what I didn't feel up to doing yesterday.
good night everyone, I am going to bed it has been a good day but long one.went to the sams club and to VA alo. they told Nancy how to set the heart moniter on my chest. Our old cow is giving two gallons more milk per day more than her calf use,s. so we brought two gallons and a pound of fresh butter home. our cow is up at our deaughter's. both her andher calf is doing good. sil sterred the calf, we will fatten him up for meat. I have a colliney of aunts moove into my office so I am going goget the aint spray, and see if I can end them. good night and sweet dreams everyone.
Lloyd
Good morning.
I am on the road early taking my friend to an eye appointment in the city. We will shop a bit afterwards and then head home before the madness starts. Long weekend here ,road will be a snake of vehicles .
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend! I noticed that I did not post at all yesterday. It was "one of THOSE days" and I was so tired I couldn't even think straight! I had two major things to do yesterday...one in the morning and one in the afternoon and it just took the wind out of my sails! You don't suppose I'm getting old, do you?
And today my daughter will be arriving from Maryland. She's newly retired and enjoying being able to do as she pleases whenever she pleases. But I do have some things to do to get ready for her visit. She's also bringing me two chickens to cook for broth and that's one of our activities. Another will be to can the broth and the shredded chicken for soup later and a third will be for her to drive me to the kinesiologist appt this afternoon! She's taken on a lot but none of it is new to her!
I have to go get ready to meet Cooper! He'll be arriving at his usual time...about 6:45 and he'll be hungry. I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.
P.S. I think I'm going to go with Janie's Jumble for the new dish in my repertoire! Thanks AMY!
Good morning everyone, it is raining this morning, we need it but my back does not appreciate it. I have to start making appointments, eye doctor have ears checked, think my hearing is going or else everyone is mumbling lately and I do have to find a new dentist. The teeth I have left have to come out and I will not go where I have gone for years with that dumb one just loves prescribing antibiotics. A CNA was telling me she did the same thing with her husband. He called and said he thought he had an infection after she pulled a tooth and after she sent in the second script to the pharmacy Fran said it was twice the strength of the first one and she checked it after he had already taken a couple of the new pills and started feeling odd. She made him stop. I wonder how many others that went to that butcher that ended up sick because of her antibiotic scripts. It is over a year now and I still have problems and afraid to go to a dentist-if I can trust one again.
That was more than anyone is interested in but I am having a pity party for myself. I have miss lazy dirty hands coming today and I cannot stand her but am lucky to have someone to do things I cannot do. I cannot cook anymore but I will not let her cook for me.
Have a good day and be safe.
Good morning from a primarily sunny Interior; we're expected to reach mid-sixties today and perhaps seventies. That's the good news. The continuing bad news is that many of my friends are still stranded. While the main roads are paved, many of the little roads people live on in the foothills were damaged by the sheer unexpected amounts of snow and the snowmelt activities. There have been two sinkholes discovered that are rapidly expanding. A development that has never been seen here before. There is also the issue that multiple road service areas have run out of money due to increased, unforeseen spending.
While they are dealing with this in the hills, the lower levels and plains are seeing faster snowmelt in a time when the earlier cold weather and later snows left more snow to deal with. This area is a watershed with the five local rivers and numerous others draining into those five. The now warming temperatures and the sheets of river ice becoming unmoored and drifting have backed up and jammed at times, causing some village and small-town flooding. All of those issues and some refugees are on their way here.
We received yet another weather message in our continuing saga. "Middle Tanana Valley Alerts"
Increasing snowmelt and rising river levels...
Temperatures rising into the sixties and lower seventies will increase higher elevation snowmelt across the eastern and center Interior over the next few days. Some elevations in the Tanana-Yukon Uplands and the Alaska Range have a record amount of snow on the ground for mid-May. Runoff from snowmelt will bring significant rises to rivers and streams, especially along the Alaska Range and those draining the Tanana-Yukon Uplands. River levels will likely rise to bankfull and possibly higher over the weekend and into next week. This includes the Chena River, Salcha River, Tanana River, and Chatanika River, as well as drainages along the Taylor Highway. Residents are encouraged to watch river levels and to move items along riverbanks to higher ground."
Guess where all those rivers and drainages will end up and all refugees. Don't you love climate change?
Today has been a fantastic day.
We left here in light rain, but it did not spoil the fun day.
Appointment went well, shopping filled the van and so did our laughter.
We scurried home before the holiday traffic starts.
I don't think either one of us will need any rocking tonight.
I'm glad you had a good day, Amy! On this end, the fire alarm, a high-pitched rotating/reverberating sound, began at 12:45. Everyone assumed it was the usual idiot who opened his door to announce to everyone "that it was okay." and set off the building alarm, which would go until the fire trucks arrived to turn it off and chat with the offender.
However, the offender was maintenance as it reverberated through the building from 12:45 to 4:08. At 5:29, my ears are still ringing. So far, besides the fire alarm and the two-month broken trash compactor, and my Fridge shelf and long bar door that needed new fastenings and was reported on the eleventh, I'm among those upset.
And then the people from Juneau's head office scheduled to come to inspect on the twelfth only to have management drop notes on the late afternoon of the eleventh that any inspection would be postponed until sometime in July!?!
Hello Y'all! Hey AMY, what's the holiday you keep referring to? I've tried to look it up and I can't find it. So I'm asking you!
Christy arrived from Maryland today and she took me to my appointment with the kinesiologist. She used to work for her and they've remained friends. When I went in the inner office and told her that I'd had a special driver to bring me, Debra ran out to hug Christy and greet her leaving me alone in the office. I knew she would! It was a good appt and all went well. I have lots to do to help the healing process!
On the way back Christy and I stopped at an Amish Farmer's place. He sells milk and butter and cheese that he makes himself. When Christy lived in that area she shopped there often and he remembered her and they did a little remembering! Then we stopped at Davy's and got some things that we both like to eat so we have stuff for while she's here!
Now I'm headed for the haystack and I'll have two to sleep with. Christy will share my bed and Cooper will crowd us both. Frankie will occupy the single bed alone because she has to work tomorrow! I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one. And may He watch over the Ukrainians!
Good morning..
My peepers didn't want to wake up this morning but it is another day. Have things to do places to go. Kyle would like a piece of pine , I would like a bag of peat moss and that should be it.......maybe :))
Jane ,it is Canada day here on Mon but traffic will be horrific as this is also the time cottagers open up their cottage. Have a fun time with Cristy.
Patricia, that is a sharp sound to listen to for that long!! Hope today is a much better day.
Gloria, when will Yvette be back?
Phyllis, not nice when the body has a mind of its own. Hope today is a better day for you.
Better get a hitch in my get a long..
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
good Morning everyone. we have over cast and cloudy skye this morning. do not kot why but my computer wanted to clean up and re set it,s self again this morning, done same thing yesterday. its miend is just like mine, dose not rember well at all. I had a rough night the heart moneter fell off or I knocked it off, either way had a hard time getting it to stay on. and am not sure i have it in the right place. so I will go back to the heart people at va today and and get hlp with it. hope you all have a great day.
Lloyd
Good morning everyone, overcast and did not hear local weather this morning so have no idea what the day will bring. All I know it is 55 damp degrees inside my apartment. I have my warm winter robe on and am not exactly warm. Of course the heat in the building is off.
time for breakfast and think I will have hot oatmeal, coffee did not warm my innards up.
Have a good day and be safe.
Amy, thanks for understanding. Summer weather in NC is hard for me because of the almost daily thunder/rain storms. It rained and thundered during the night but I didn't hear it. David told me about it. I only know that I woke up with a headache and having to be careful because my balance is bad and I keep getting dizzy. Today's temp. is supposed to go to 97 deg. and the humidity is very high. I don't want to complain here everyday so I usually don't say anything or sometimes I don't open S&F at all.
Take care, All.
Power is back on so now the fun of changing all those clocks (3 in kitchen alone). I was outside watering & heard a loud pop, usually means a squirrel was playing on a transformer.
Good chance to have me a camper breakfast with coffee water boiled in a pot, bacon & egg fried (gas stove but match light without power), then wiped out the skillet & toasted my bread in butter in the skillet. Yum! Had bird TV eating sandwich in front of the window where I just put out the food... cooked hamburger, grapes cut in half, walnuts, regular mixed bird seed & some bread for the black birds. I tear bread into bite size & put some in their bowl of water & some on the side. Robby (the one raised here, I'm sure), will sass me from the corner of the roof or even sitting on the edge of the post where I put the food... very friendly. The robin & mate are loving the grapes, I cut in half so easier for them to grab & go down on the grass or sidewalk to "kill it" bamming it to get the meat loose.
Woke up to 75° & now it's 64°, more to my liking. Was a tad chilly when I was out watering the seeds in the trug & some flowers in pots.
Happy Holiday, Amy. How far is "town" from where you live?
Busy girl, Jane, I'm sure those chickens taste better than anything you can buy but just reading about I can smell the feathers in that boiling water & plucking them out. I think my mother had me help so I realized ALL chickens weren't pets!
Phyllis, hope the body is better today. As we've heard all our lives, "Getting old isn't for sissies"... & they weren't kidding!
Lloyd, you go to the VA so often I'm suspecting there is a cute nurse you are flirting with, should we ask Nancy? Hummmmmmmmmmm......... Bad Boy! ;) My youngest son had to wear a heart monitor one long week & also had trouble with it. Take care.
Patricia, been reading about the flooding where you are... sounds as bad as St.Louis right now. The wind around here sucks up the moisture so fast the river didn't even come up behind my house.
Gloria, my house is a wreck & still haven't found my fav summer tops I wear to clean the pool, spend half my life searching for stuff. These are all cotton tank tops from the sale days so can't replace. I bought one of every color to have "sunburn" marks same. I always keep a shirt handy to throw on if anyone shows up to talk over the fence! Need to sort & donate, lots of stuff I'll never wear or use again. Easier to put off & face the MUST DOS of the day. But a nap first?
Not getting anything done & still have bedroom clock to re-set. I need to just unplug it because youngest son gave me a Google clock that will tell me anything I want to know. The radio on the old one set on the all news station drives me nuts the last year so I keep an old Sony handy & use it most. Don't know why these radio people think it's cute to play all the loud background noise/music when giving news or even advertising, I can't understand what they say with that noise. May be my hearing but didn't bother me until they started having the younger guy on & he is the one that started it.
Time to move, lunch time already! I need that nap!
Unfortunately, https://www.salon.com/2022/05/19/baby-formula-scams/
I'm off to bed! We've had a busy day! The chickens are cooked and ready to can the broth tomorrow for soup. My yard looks beautiful. Christy is my gardener. We went and bought mulch, some plants and a few other things today and she worked between storms. We also stopped in my son's store (he's Christy's twin) and discovered that his high school daughter was part of a chorus and orchestra concert tonight. So we went to that! Now we're both off to bed! Tomorrow is another day.
And tomorrow, the chicken has to be canned. And we have a couple of errands to do! And some shopping that we WANT to do. So another busy one is coming up! I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one! And may he watch over the Ukrainians!
Good morning.
Going to be a warm one with rain later on tonight. That will put a damper on the fireworks (I hope). Will have Janie's Rescue on hand just in case.
Today is going to be a tad busy, Kyle wants to hit a garage sale that is selling tools plus pick up more lumber. When home I will do laundry and vac seal some meat.
Shirley ,we are about 10 miles or so from town. Doesn't take long to nip in and out providing it is not a holiday then town becomes a sardine can!
Jane, sounds like a fun time for you and Christy today..lot of work but laughter also.
Lloyd, hope you got your monitor put back on.
Better scoot..
Enjoy your day and stay safe..
Good Morning AMY and everyone else that follow. do not know how much rain we got have not been out side to look at the rain gauge, but there are wattet puddels every where we had lot of loud thunder and lot of lighteining Last night. woke me severial times. it is over cast nowand light wend. hope you all have a good day today.
Lloyd
Good Morning Everyfriend! LLOYD, I hope you're feeling OK today and that you managed to keep the monitor in place!
Christy took off for WM to get some more mulch so she can finish up the yard work. She's also waiting for a call from her life-long friend, Julie. They always try to get together for something when she comes up here. They've been friends since they were 6 and met in first grade! That's awesome!
She just came back with the mulch and she's outside working on that. I told her to holler if she needs me.
The chicken is all cooked and there are about two gallons of broths in the fridge and about two quarts of chicken and same of veggies to be dealt with. AMY, the baking soda did the trick! The chicken is tender and delicious. I think I'll do a couple jars with the veggies and meat already in them so I just have to add noodles or rice for soup and then some of the broth plain for use in "other stuff". That's next on the agenda! It sounds like at least two canners full of quart jars! Busy! Busy!
I hope you all have a great day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!
Good morning everyone. We had thunderstorms in the forecast for last night but if we had any I did not hear it but it did rain overnight again, I can see the walks drying this morning. Shock!! we are in for 90+° today and tomorrow. Yesterday morning I could have used some heat in here and today hitting the 90's.
That's New England for you. Like the year along the south shore one year in mid June there was an 8 inch snowfall and this area had none. When I go to sleep at night others are amazed that I can sleep through a loud thunderstorm.
PHYLLIS I am like you in the summer months and when the humidity climbs with the heat I really just want to sit near the AC or sleep.
Better get a move on, after 10 and my son will be here soon.
Have a good day and stay safe.
Woke up to "not quite mid-50s" this morning but felt like 49. I've got on sweats & warm sox & shoes instead of barefooted. Fed the birds, fed the cat & fed me, so ready for a nap!
One of the young robins decided to fly off the nest to see what Mom & Dad are eating over on those brick posts.... landed on the hood of the motorhome & slid right off to the driveway. Blackbird flitted down to check on it & Mom & Dad nose-dived that blackbird so it ran over to hide in the flowers. Don't know where the baby went after that but the food I put out is already gone.
Phyllis, my daughter is in FL for her husband's 50th Class Reunion. They live in St.Louis & are used to humidity & heat BUT she is struggling with the humidity in FL & had to go back to their room after a short while of the party taking place outside.
Going to drink some more water, my kids keep pestering me to drink more water (they think it will puff out some of the wrinkles... :2funny: ::) )
Bad storms going through the area. We have lost our power and working on generator at the moment. Son sent photo of trees down, pounding rain in his area. Some areas also have high winds which thankfully we don't have them.
Janie to the Rescue and now Babe is quieting down...
Not much going on here.
It is too bloody hot to enjoy outside. I did do something that I hadn't done in years. My yard is simply awash with weeds. I had used Scotts weed and feed last year, but obviously that didn't last. So I had bought a container of Spectracide Weed Stop for Lawns. Really handy, as you just attach the garden hose to the sprayer nozzle, and go to it. I have a corner lot, so a lot of walking, dragging hose is involved. Did the front, went to the side and then back yard. I think I got it covered well.
I was fighting the approach of rain, (just sprinkles)but that stopped in good time! Then I had to roll up the backyard hose, which is a heavy-duty, black rubber one, which seems like it weighs 20 pounds. At one point out front, I disconnected the expandable hose, which takes an inordinate amount of time to drain itself out, at which point the hose did a "sea serpent"on me flopping back and forth across the walkway, and spraying me from head to toe!It was good exercise, an unusual amount of "fun" to be doing something so different, but wow was I tired from all the walking/dragging and my arm moving in a back and forth sweeping motion[/font ]Bet I will sleep good tonight, but probably won't be able to get out of bed in the morning!
According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, 14 people across 12 states have reported becoming sick after eating certain Jif peanut butter products, sending two people to the hospital.
The FDA states that Jif product lot code numbers 1274425 through 2140425 are affected by the recall and advises people in possession of those products to throw it away.
Lot code numbers can be found alongside the best-if-used-by date on Jif peanut butter products.
The J.M. Smucker Company says that the recall affects different types of its products including creamy peanut butter, crunchy peanut butter, to-go packs of peanut butter, and more.
Data from the FDA states that the first person affected by the Salmonella outbreak became sick on February 20, and noted that the actual number of people sick is likely "much higher" than the 14 people currently being reported.
According to the FDA, four out of five people who became sick reported eating "different types of Jif brand peanut butter" before becoming ill.
Salmonella, when it infects healthy people, causes symptoms such as fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.
The infection can cause more serious symptoms in young children, as well as frail or elderly individuals.
Hello Everyfriend! We've had another busy day but the yard work is all done and the chicken broth is ready to can. Tomorrow is another day!
PATRICIA, if it's not one thing, it's another! Now it's the Peanut Butter! I wrote down the numbers so I can look at my two jars the next time I'm in the kitchen. That won't be until tomorrow because I'm on my way to the haystack right now.
AMY, I'm so glad your doggies are suffering through the storms any more. It sure did relax Annie and Mickie when I started using it...Bonnie, too!
I'm off to the haystack. I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one! And may He also watch over the Ukrainians!
Good Morning everyone. looks like i am first in here this Morning, so I wish you all a great day. it is over cast, and the wether guesser here is saying 54º and sunney so mabey it will come out. see you all later.
Lloyd
Good morning everyone. lt time I checked the temperature yesterday it was 88° and today is supposed to get to 92.
PATRICIA I have not bought any Jif in a long time, have not had peanut butter in the house in a long time but will sure let my family know. Have heard nothing on the news here about that recall.
Nothing going on around here, just the same old thing every day. Just letting you know I am still alive and complaining.
Have a good day and stay safe.
Good morning...
That was one heck of a storm!!Power was restored around 10 pm and we got off lucky here. Other areas had trees down, and some had a dance with a tornado!
I have been to town to pick up the fixin's of Janes rhubarb juice. A day of rest after I wash the dog bed..Babe's stomach was upset, thunder and fire works didn't help .
I did manage to get my pots and urns planted with just a few more to go yesterday before company came.
Better get at it.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Just about the same here. It was 78 when I got up today so we're well on our way to a hot day. A/Cs are ready to go (I hope), with new batteries in their remotes.
A/Cs are ready to go (I hope), with new batteries in their remotes.
Rick do you remember a time when we didn't have a/c? I don't ever want to be without it now!
I do remember those days. Open windows and leave doors open and hope for a cross draft. If you were lucky you had a fan.
I think WW2 brought about A/Cs, antibiotics, and Microwaves. Somehow people made do.
Then, there was "swamp coolers".
I remember when we thought those window fans were great & then the water wheels (what were they called?) My father hated AC until his last days, he'd go sit outside on the patio instead of AC but loved the big old floor fans. We are having a few days of cool down, it was HOT summer before that. The time of year when summer & winter clothes are out & sometimes wear them both the same day!
Sun shining today, temp is 55° & feels pretty good to me. Looks like another robin just out of the nest, Mom was trying to show it how to come eat at the post but it just sat on a big lava rock by the front porch & waited for Mom to deliver. Don't know if it's the same one that landed on the motorhome yesterday & slid right down to the driveway, but they don't have any control over where they are going for a while. Mom or Dad just tries to keep up with them. This one looks especially small & young, it's speckled front looks so tiny.
Ah, that's the name I was looking for, Rick, "swamp cooler"...
Son called to say they are still without power in their area. Garage is limiting gas to 25 liters and cash only.
Rick ,I was going to ask what a "swamp cooler" was but with Shirley's post it has something to do with a water wheel???
Amy - A swamp cooler is basically air moving over something wet - causing it to evaporate and be/feel cooler. There's probably a million descriptions of a swamp cooler - from the original to some made today. Google might help.
My son said this morning that he spent over $100 for the 35 gallons of gas he bought WITH HIS DOLLAR OFF FOR THOSE 35 GALLONS! I'm still mulling over the math on that. :2funny: :tickedoff: Think what it will cost to fill my motorhome that holds 55 gallons! Scary!
Does it feel like we are finishing each other's sentences? :)
Rick, thank you. Makes sense to me. Will google though just to see the differant ways of doing so.
Shirley I got roughly a half a tank of reg gas for $84.51 and that was for 41.234 litres. OUCH!!
Took a peek and this is what they say.

Why hasn't this made the news?
"INDIANAPOLIS — A military plane carrying enough specialty infant formula for more than half a million baby bottles arrived Sunday in Indianapolis, the first of several flights expected from Europe aimed at relieving a shortage that has sent parents scrambling to find enough to feed their children.
President Joe Biden authorized the use of Air Force planes for the effort, dubbed "Operation Fly Formula," because no commercial flights were available."
https://www.politico.com/news/2022/05/22/baby-formula-arrives-indianapolis-00034279
Patricia, I saw on last night's news that the baby formula shipment was to arrive in the USA today. Haven't had the news on today to get an update.
Not very busy in here today! Christy is safely back home in Maryland (I missed her before she made it to the highway) and Frankie is home in bed preparing for work tomorrow! She will drop Cooper by around 6:45 tomorrow morning! I have gallons of chicken broth in the fridge to can tomorrow and is it ever going to taste good in soups, stews and other recipes next winter! Another busy day tomorrow!
I'm off to the haystack for an early night tonight. Everything is out to start the canning in the morning and I'm going to have things heating when Cooper gets here. I hope your days past were as good as mine were and I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow. And may God bless us, every one! And may he watch over the Ukrainians!
Good morning
Having a giggle here, loons and the rooster are competing for morning song.
My friend called last night, they are still without power and may get it back on Tues. She said line up at gas stations was unreal. Makes one think to have extras on hand for times like this.
Taking garbage away then home to work maybe garden, maybe make Jane's rhubarb juice ,not sure yet.
I managed to get another cancer quilt done and start on a log cabin quilt.May work on that.
Jane, the lady that told me about the baking soda could cook up a storm. I worked for them in the summer during school holidays. We milked cows and sold the cream, milk went
to calves, chickens and pigs. If a calf was sick with the scours .I was sent to the hen house to get a couple of eggs and then he would put the raw egg, shell to in the side of the calfs mouth break it ,the calf would swallow the egg and crunch on the shell.Made my stomach queasy as I don't like runny yolks never mind raw!
Better get a move on
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend! My first batch of chicken broth in quart jars is in the canner, the timer is set and the second set of jars is waiting it's turn.
AMY, I don't mind the yolks a bit runny but I like my egg whites cooked! I've never tried eating a shell but I rather think I won't ever try that! Thanks again for the tip of using the baking soda. I think that one will be moving to Maryland with Christy, too. She said they always just grind up the meat for dog food! But she ate some of it here when we were stripping the bones and said it was good!
I have to go fill my bird feeder. There are sometimes a dozen birds around it and yesterday we even had a couple squirrels come in and clean up the ground around it! They sort of took turns.
I guess I better get back in the kitchen. That's my space for today. And Cooper is in the yard so I better look out on him too. I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!
Good morning everyone,60° now at 7:15 and a high of 75, I sure can take that. No AC will need to be running so will be quiet. It is overcast now. Just saw the forecast and looks OK for the next 4 days heat going up for next weekend. The guesser was talking about the dewpoint, hate that word-means humidity getting high. I noticed yesterday only 3 people were sitting on the porch and they did not stay long, too hot.
PATRICIA with they let us know when they will inspect our apartments, they just show up and if you are not home they come in anyway. I never liked anyone being in my home when no one is home. This place is as clean as I can keep it and do not have things hanging round. My rollator wheels have taken most of the wax on the floor in the bathroom and I cannot use one of the machines thy have to strip the floor and then use their wax. Same with this cheap imitation wood floor in here. You can see the tracks where I walk and where I sit in front of my desk. First time she noticed a spot in the bathroom she asked if I was using Clorox on the floor. I am I not that stupid.
AMY I have left messages on Yvette's phone several times but she has not answered any yet. I am beginning to think the surgeon she had at that hospital is like the one who did the first carpal tunnel surgery on my right hand. When I called his off to have it done on my left wrist and said the right one will need doing again whoever it was I talked with said they cannot do surgery a second time on the same wrist. OK so much for the doctor I was going to that sent me to that old know it all. I started asking around and one name kept coming up so called and got an appointment, When I kept an appointment with the doctor I had I told him about it. All he said is "I hope he knows what he is doing. I asked him if he saw that months Rhode Islander magazine and he said he reads that magazine every month. I asked if he noticed the doctor on the cover. The top one of the top 50 in the state, he said he saw it and I just looked him in the eyes and said that is the one who is going to do the surgery and do a secomd one on the first one that was not done right. He just walked out of the room saying he would see me in 3 months.
LLOYD we could use some more rain here but none in the forecast this week.
AMY AND JANE just what is this baking soda with chicken? Only when boiling or simmering chicken or what?
I am sure it isn't for baking or frying chicken.
RICK much easier using a remote for the AC instead of standing in front of the AC with the air blowing in face and eyes. I never heard of swamp coolers until my daughter and SIL took me to Arizona one year when I went to San Diego to visit them. Hw had a cousin who lived in Az. and we stoppd to visit her and she had a swamp cooler going. To me is seemed to just add humidity into her house. I remember my Mom canning on hot summer days and do not know how she did it. The stove we had was a big old cast iron one with chrome trim. We had a lot of windows, no fan and even as a kid of 7 or 8 I knew it was hot and it bothered me at that age so I do not know how my Mom had that stove heating up the house and her canning was the water bath adding more heat and steam to the kitchen. Not even a fan till after WW2 and one brother home from the Pacific bought her a fan.
PATRICIA I heard about the baby formula coming in from Europe on the 6 pm news yesterday
Finished my coffee so now it is time to eat and take pills. Not that I like taking pills of any kind, I remember when I only took an aspirin when I had a really bad headache and that one only 1 aspirin.
Have a good day and stay safe.
well I will try again. the grimlens keep eating my post,s it is very bright sun shine here today 49º. I hope to get this heart moniter off today, It fell down in the night, I put it back up I hope where it belongs. Have a good day.

Good morning; we're still at our evening low of 50 degrees at 9:25 AM. Today's high will be 73 and sunny. The trees are now budded out, and people are finally out and about other than those trapped in the foothills.
The morning news talked about the ice jam flooding causing slower internet and data speeds as a flood knocked out a repeater station that helps distribute the internet. "GCI communications director Heather Handyside said that flooding at Manley Hot Springs in Interior Alaska on Saturday knocked out power to a repeater station that helps distribute internet to the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta. The repeater has been running on backup battery power for over 48 hours, and that power is about to run out. GCI has been unable to install a generator at the site due to the flooding."
Hello You All out there! We had a gorgeous day today. The high was olnly 71 and the sun was shining! Cooper arrived at 6:45 and he had breakfast with me and then we took a nice walk while my first set of jars sterilized. When we got back he asked to go out in the yard and he spent most of the rest of the day out there. He came up on the porch and barked at the door 3 different times but when I went to let him in he just looked at me as if to say, "I was just making sure you were still here. I don't want to come in." Even the birds have got used to him but not the squirrels.
I have 14 quarts of GOOD chicken stock canned and added to my stock. It sure looks like the start of some good soup or casseroles of a nice crock pot stew! I love looking at the finished product as it cools on the table. Makes me feel good.
GLORIA, the baking soda is only for taking the toughness out of old birds that have passed their prime for laying eggs. If you don't use a little baking soda in the cooking water, the meat is almost too tough to eat!
I remember the old days when my mother and grandmother did the canning thing. There were no fans or A/Cs around back in those days and we had a gas stove that had a flame and it was HOT to begin with. Then if you added a canner, a large post of whatever you were canning and a pan to sterilize the lids, 3 out of 4 burners were on the whole time you were working. Sweat was a big part of it. I remember my Dad coming into the kitchen with a newspaper and fanning my mother as she stood at the stove! And we all helped with the prep. I get tired now until I remember back.....when! Then I know how easy I have it!
I'm off to the haystack to get some sleep before Cooper hits in the morning. I'm ready for him! I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow. And may God bless us, every one! And may He watch over the Ukrainians!
Good morning..
Going to be a busy day here, Kyle wants his hair cut and the village he gets it done has no power. Storm hit them hard with trees down, lots of barns down in the area and they don't know when power will be restored. Friend is suppose to get her power back today. I haven't been able to get my sister as the storm hit their village knocking out power, car wash is gone and a hardware store lost heir roof I am told.
May have to look after the critters next door :smitten:
Will get the rest of the garden planted today, I hope.
Jane a lot of hard work but you will reap the benefit come winter.
Patricia, ice jam made me shiver! I would like to think ice is out of all ours.
Gloria, hope you do hear from Yvette soon. I used to enjoy the heat but not anymore. You had no choice but to accept it when farming and I would also get the heat from the tractor :(
Better get a wiggle on...
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend! I was going to wish myself a good morning but Cooper's arrival interrupted me and when I had fed him and returned, AMY was here! So....Good Morning AMY and anyone else who arrives later.
AMY, it sounds like Kyle might have to live with his long hair for a while...unless he trusts you with his head and a pair of scissors! Lots of damage around your area. I'm glad it didn't get to you!
Now I'm going to go get dressed and take Cooper for his walk. I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!
well I am haveing a hard time getting a post to Go this morning. so this is the third time this morning trying.
well I said good morning AMY and JaneS , whome is all i sean at that time. It is light rain here this morning and over cast. Not shure what I am going to do for shure. the heart moneter time was up yesterday. so i have to either pack and mail or take equipment back to V A in perison. I think it would be safest to take back in perison. Have a good day.
Lloyd
Good morning everyone, 56° now and slept great with just a fan on in the bedroom window.
JANE thanks for the explanation of the baking soda and the "tough old birds".
AMY was that a tornado up there to do that much damage of just a bad storm? I know a hurricane can do that much damage, too. This coming week end when we celebrate Memorial day is when most here will be planting their gardens.
LLOYD with something as delicate as the heart monitor I would take it back in person.
Being lazy this morning, must be because i have dirty hands lazy cna today. Laundry day so she will have to do a few things besides sit with her eyes closed.
Have a good day, keep cool and stay safe.
Life sure making U turns lately, needed rain & have 3 inches in my rain gauge since last night. We DID need it but weather guesser says it will keep on keeping on thru tomorrow! My plans to head to Missouri ended because my fav campground has a low road at the entrance & I've gotten there before to barricades across the entrance.
Amy, only one package of lettuce seed has sprouted & those little roots are hanging on for dear life! They showed up a couple days ago but the other 3 packages are "no shows", with the price of those seeds, I will go into mourning~~ :'(
Lunch time & maybe a nap, why not? Y'all behave, Monkey Pox will getcha!
Shirley you may stop here 2 highwa to highway zz south to the three black mail boxes on your right, make a right turn right aroubd them , that is our driveway. the left hand duplex is our,s. we are most always home. we went to V A today and got all problems resalved. and stopped at sams club and got grocerys , so have plenty to feed you. we also stopped at SIL & deaughters house and got a couple gallens of fresh cows Milk. it is raning here now and has all day and last night. But we have good soliad graveled drive way. just come on any time. we have plenty of room for your RV. if i do not have the plug in installed I have two genaraters so can hok your camper up or we havesome place for you to sleep.
Lloyd
Another day has come and gone! I'll be off to the haystack in a few minutes so I can drag out and meet Cooper early in the morning. Today was a slow day! I got a few things done but not as much as I wanted to do. I think I might have been resting from the doings when my company was here and all the chicken and broth processing in the past few days. I just felt a bit out or sorts! Tomorrow is another day!
One of my jars of broth didn't seal so I'm making a pot of chicken noodle soup with it! And since Frankie will be here for supper tomorrow night, I'm doing a "Coca Cola Pot Roast" recipe that I ran across on line. It sounds good! I'll let you know how it works out!
Now I'm heading for the barn and the hay stack! I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow! I wish you no damaging storms and good growing things! Today, our two local mallards decided to take up residence in my yard. I looked out and they were parked under the bird feeder. It's becoming a regular gathering spot out there! I went out and spread some dry bread chunks and they're all gone! I don't know if the ducks got them or the squirrels. Guess it doesn't really matter! Good night Everyfriend!
Jane, I took out some stale crackers & crunched in the bowl of water this morning & those blackbirds that hang out under the hanging feeders went wild. They love bread & crackers more than the bird seed but all love the walnut meats! Only one robin eats the cooked hamburger but they all seem to like the grapes, especially the robins. I cut them in half so easier for them to pick up to take to the ground to pull the juicy part out. This last bag of birdseed I bought had more sunflower seed than anything & read that is why so many doves. Not seeing as many squirrels as earlier, but I think most of the neighbors are also feeding.
Lloyd, that is very kind of you & Nancy but I've called off my trip for now. Looking at radar I doubt if my favorite campground will be open, it has a low entrance road & got there one time to barricades at the entrance (it's on highway 7 between Clinton & Warsaw, name is Long Shoal) and I'll just wait until the weather tames down. Do hope when I get down that way we can meet, maybe in Warrensburg? I know how to get into the McDonald's parking lot with the "Elephant" & be able to get back out. Thanks for the offer, I do appreciate it. Glad you got the heart monitor back to the VA.
Gloria, hope your good back massage person come back soon so you don't have to put up with Dirty Hands any longer. Hard to find anyone willing to do a good job these days. I gave up & turned the furnace back on, couldn't pile on enough clothes to keep warm. I've been washing up the winter clothes to put away & dragging back out. I suppose in all our years we have seen crazy weather like this but NOW we have time to think (and gripe) about it.
Off to bed, hope we don't get rain all day again, plan to get the pool uncovered & cleaned over the weekend. Today the water is standing on the cover, the water is up to the top. Lucky when they put the pool in they saw fit to put the lower side away from the house so it doesn't seep into the foundation. And that is the ONLY thing I can say nice about the pool!
Sweet dreams and God Bless. Love ya'all.
Good Morning Everyfriend!Right now it's 53º here and heading for a high or 73 and cloudy all day. Not too bad! I checked the bird feeder and they've almost emptied it already. There was a squirrel and two grackels under it. The "unders" will disappear when Cooper appears but the birds that frequent the feeder have become used to him and they still come even when he's out in the yard.
SHIRLEY, thanks for all the info about feeding the birds! I can do some of that stuff!
I need to get something to eat before he arrives and get ready for him. I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!
Good morning..
Beautiful day in the making here...temp is not to go above 72°.
Not sure what is happening today...will toss a coin and see which way the day goes. Beans ,peas and cumbers were planted yesterday along with the rest of the blue and yellow wave petunias.
Gloria, they are calling it a derecho.......and in some areas yes a tornado did touch down. Many are still without power today and it will be a while yet before it is restored. All the food in fridges and freezers is spoiled if one didn't have a generator to keep them running. Each day on the news we are seeing the devastation it has left behind. So far 11 people have died from it.
Derechos (pronounced like "deh-REY-chos") are fast-moving bands of thunderstorms with destructive winds. The winds of a derecho travel at least 58 miles per hour and have been recorded as fast as 130 miles per hour. That's as fast as some tornados! But instead of spiraling like a tornado or hurricane, the winds of a derecho move in straight lines.
Jane, that is my favourite soup..comfort soup!
Shirley, our beans that I first planted are up as the swiss chard, carrots and a few garlic bulbs are peeking.
Best get ready to meet the day..
Enjoy your day and stay safe..
Good morning everyone, For a Wednesday I slept late, the landscapers were quiet , they were busy clipping the bushes and making sure they were shaped just so. Looks like they want to put the best look on for Memorial (remember when it was called Decoration day?)Day. At least I was awake when they started the mowers and sweepers. Have to make out a grocery list and send Fran-CNA- to the market. I had her before Yvette started so we know each other and I like her. She is one of the few who do not stop and always find something to do. Lazy dirty hands found time to sit an hour out of 4 yesterday. She sits with her eyes shut and when I see that I always ask her if she is that tired she might as well sign out and go sleep in her car. I have a CNA on Mondays -Nancy- who is busy all the time and she never forgets my back massage either. She is 71 and puts dirty hands to shame and she(Diane) is in her 50's. I so wish I could do my own work again. These days if I am on my feet longer than 15 or 20 minutes my legs feel like they are ready to fold under me so that lets cooking out pretty much. Both sons have bought me different TV dinners and I just cannot eat them with all the junk-preservatives-in them.
Bill did get me some stuffed shells at the market near where he lives-best market for fresh produce-and at first I wondered how they would sit in my tummy, some things with tomato sauce upset it but these are great. This market has 6 stores in the state and family owned. I freeze half of the shells for a later time and they are yummy. I really need to eat more of a variety than that though.
SHIRLEY another good reason to make sure Dirty hands washes them good when she comes in here. I think she is afraid to get them wet and she will not wear those plastic gloves the company gives them. She has an excuse for every thing, will not use hand sanitizer-dries her hands with the alcohol in it. I have some from Hempvana and it is a foam with no alcohol in it-all natural. Everyone else who comes in likes it and I have a bottle of the liquid form of it and they use one or the other and like it. Even my little great grand got his Mom to get the foam one for at their home.
JANE every day is a good day when I get a good CNA so today will be good. Fran knows how to shop and will no get me anything not on the list or substitute with a different brand. I think dirty hands gets me something from the market i don't want on purpose because she knows I will give it to her to take with her. I have noticed her eyes when I do that like she has pulled the wool over my eyes to get something she wants.
AMY there have been storms here in the states they call straight line storms and sounds like that Derechos you talked about. Don't think any area on earth is free from all storms of one kind or other or earthquakes either. A couple of weeks ago they were talking about a series of quakes over 2 days here in Rhode Island but they were not felt because they were off shore. Another words on the ocean floor.
Goodness just looked at the time and Fran will be here inn 20 minutes. I have time to least get dressed before she is here. Still have not had breakfast either.
Have a good day everyone and stay safe.
Good Morning everyone. Is 10;30 AM here. I have not ben up but a few min. was after Midnight when I finely got to sleep,is the reason i was so late getting up this morning. I f Like I could take a nap soon. It is over cast but no clouds any where. Have a good day everyone. Gloria you had a intersting post. I do not know whom you can tell about to get rid of the Bad cna. do the best you can. I do not travel anymore. so can not come help you,Mabey you should try mooving in with one of your children. they Lived with you when they were young. reamber once a man and twice a chiled. you should fit in there ok. we are blessed with the duplex,s two sets of double garuges in between. and the great and great grands check on us regular and are more then ready to help. we keep gudies on hand for me and the great grands. do not know if it is guddies or love keep,s them comming but dosenot matter we enjoy them.

Beef Pot Roast is in the slow cooker and now I'm going wait to make the noodle soup for tomorrow. I had a couple phone calls I had to make and I was on hold both times. But I finally got something accomplished.
I'm going to finish up the carrot soup that I made with the stuff that we had in the pot with the chickens when we cooked them. I'll have that for my lunch today. I'm trying to use up stuff that is in the fridge and not leave stuff that I know Frankie won't eat. And I'm trying to leave space in the freezer for the stuff she'll probably bring over here. I expect her to be here most of the time that I'm gone because it will be a lot easier for her to get to work and she can just let Cooper out in the yard if she comes home tired!
I had a cardinal and 2 red winged blackbirds at the feeder this morning! When I saw them I really jumped. That's the first time for the RWBB. I had a cardinal once before.
Didn't accomplish much here but tomorrow is another day. I was worried about my sis so off we went. On the 70 mile drive we saw some of the devastation, trees toppled over, some twisted, highway signs down, shingles off of roofs and when we arrived in the town my sister lives in we saw more wreckage. Looks like God has taken over the car wash and you now drive in and wait for rain...no roof on it. My nephew's car had the back window shattered by a branch but they got off lucky compared to others. Power came back on last evening for them. We took a different way home and saw a highway dome flattened along with a barn and many trees into match sticks.
I am enjoying the sweet scent of lilacs coming in the open windows and door...just wish they lasted longer.
Jane, your house must smell so nice with your roast cooking!!
[/size
"Beef Pot Roast" :smitten: My mother used to make the best Beef Pot Roast. And she did it in the rattiest old aluminum pot. That pot was so beat up that most people would have thrown it out. She would do the pot roast and veggies in it, and then it was the men's duty to get the mashed potatoes done (with lots of butter and milk).
Now I'll just sit here and drool.
Hi There, Ya'll! The Roast Beef was great! RICK, no mashed potatoes! This one called for cutting up the potatoes in chunks and adding them to the crock pot. It was yummy! We both had two helpings and there's plenty left and I only did half a recipe!
And, AMY, you're 100% right! The house did smell delicious and I could hardly wait for Frankie to get here to eat!
Now I'm off to the haystack. I think Cooper is already there. He disappeared about an hour ago and I bet he's all cuddled in by now. I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow. And may God bless us, every one. And may He watch over the Ukrainians and all the school children!
P.S. I had 3 squirrels, and a Cardinal today plus all the birds who frequent the feeder regularly. The feeder empties out fast!

How's chances of sending that recipe - to my email. I have my mom's recipe somewhere on my computer. Many years ago (like 65 years) she typed it up and mailed it to me when I first got married and was in Charleston . The ribbon in her typewriter was on it's way out so some parts are almost impossible to read - even computer enhanced. She used an old pot on the stove top, but I am more likely to use the slow cooker. I also do like the veggies cooked in the pot with the meat.
Do love a good chuck roast but haven't seen one cut the way I like for ages. I keep asking the butcher if he want's to go with me to rustle a nice beef in the Flint Hills. He just smiles. ;)
I didn't get the birds fed right today, sassy pants must be working on another nest, but did see her out there once. I have not seen any red winged blackbirds at the feeder, I get such a kick out of watching all the birds.
The birds are all waterlogged.... poor babies. More rain for tomorrow morning & no let up all day today. What I can see of the river through the trees is it is higher than we've had for a couple years. The many trees the beaver cut down should float on down to the dam... In the 33 years we've lived here I've never seen so many downed trees from last year to this. Been busy little beavers!
Amy, I drove thru Greensburg, KS after the tornado wiped out that whole town, one of the TV weather men that visited right after has put together a video I'd love to see. Bobby Gould & January (her dog) make it thru just before it hit. They rebuilt the town "green", never be the same & still a lot of stubby looking trees. Glad your sis is okay.
Can't keep my eyes open so time to shut up. Sweet dreams & God Bless.
Good morning...
My wake up music was loons, crows, robins and gentle rain..
Would like to finish off the garden today if the rain holds off for a bit. Will take the day as it comes..
Phyliss, hope all is well at your end of the world.
Janie, PA is sending men to help restore and clear up down trees.....so thank you!!
Patricia, how is it in your corner of the world...ice all gone now?
Lloyd, enjoy the cream off of that milk, what you buy in the store is garbage compared to the real cream.
Need to skedaddle..
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend! Frankie is up and off to work and Cooper and I have had our first walk of the day. I sat and watched the birdies on the feeder while Frankie got dressed and while I drank my first cup of coffee. HARRY, the black squirrel was there. And so were George and John (his two grey friends. I wonder if anyone can guess why I call the black one "Harry"?
RICK, I'll be happy to send you the Pot Roast recipe. Do you want it the way I found it or with my adjustments? I suppose I could do it both ways I'll try to remember to do that today!
SHIRLEY, I didn't actually have the roast that they showed in the picture but it was a good one from Davy's Market.
Now I better get on my horse and get moving! Or should I put an egg in my boot and beat it? Either way, thigs to do are rearing they heads and hollering for help. I hope you all have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow?!
AMY, amazing that PA is sending help to Canada for after storm cleanup. Kinda makes me proud of where I live!
Good Morning AMY & JaneS. well the grilmeans did it again ate my post and it is gone. well what I said was, cloudy and the treas are setting stil no weind at all. not a leafe moving at all. I have not built feince here yet. so our cow is up at our deaughter and sils. deaughter is determand to skim the cream off and keep it. not good . I like to have my owen cream and do as I wish with it. well off my pedstial and on with my day. Have a good one and better than tomorow. I have taken my vitals and sent them on to V A with sadilaite. that device that va gave me is amazing. it sends the vitals to va and is not hooked to a phone line or any thing else. just dose it via sadalight. I push the butten and it say,s good morning and are you ready to start your day, talks me through what to do next and so on. I set here in my office and do a lot of bird watching. also. Nancy has a bird feeder for the humming birds on the back of the house, sure is fun to watch the humming bird eat and dive bom each other. it is amasing how much feed they drink out of the feeder. see you all later.

Quote from: JaneS on May 26, 2022, 07:33:07 AMI wonder if anyone can guess why I call the black one "Harry"?
George and John were already used?
Wrong Rick! He's named for my all-time favorite black actor whose book on his life I've just recently read. Guess again?
Good morning everyone, was another good night for sleeping with the fan going. Too bad the rest of the summer couldn't be like this. The days have been in the lower to mid 70's and cool enough to sleep without the AC. 57° now at 9:30. More my kind of weather. Still like winter better than summer heat and humidity.
LLOYD CNA's are is short supply or so the office says. They hire anyone who applies for a job. It can be a hard job because some of the clients need a lot of care. I still try to do every thing I can for myself. I need mostly someone who can cook something I can eat. I would never ask lazy dirty hands to even boil an egg. I would never move in with one of my children, for one thing they all have stairs and I can no longer climb stairs.
JANE my mouth is watering with the thought of your pot-roast cooking and the aroma filling the house. Some of that with mashed potatoes and home made gravy from the roast drippings and I would be happy. Of course if my oldest grandson was around I would have to share with him. He always goes to Arizona for Thanksgiving with Regina-her oldest son- and it is near his birthday so she has that for supper the first night he is there. That is his birthday meal that he asked for when he was 5 years old and he in now in his 40's.
AMY I miss the scent of lilacs coming into my windows. When I lived in the apartment in my son's house there was a fence on the side of the house by my living room there were lilac bushes along that fence so I had plenty to bring into the house and smell the air coming into those windows. I miss that and so does Regina. She tried several times growing lilacs in San Diego but they all died, even the ones that were for the climate there.
RICK no you went and did it, I will have to ask my sone before he comes here Saturday to get me a pot-roast at the market before he gets here. I will have to start cooking it early on Wednesday so the CNA that day can mash the potatoes. I never had a written recipe from my Mom. All the way she cooked anything was in her head and she was a good cook and baker, best pie maker, too.
SHIRLEY one of the men who lives where Regina is started raising some cattle, That place was a big ranch at one time, and when he butchered the first one he brought Regina a big chuck roast nice and thick. He knew the best cut for that. She had to cut it in half and freeze half of it and he would not take anything for it. Chuck roasts here look more like a steak now.
I did not realize how late I was here this morning when the cna got here. Just now turned the PC on again and there this was still waiting. Talked to the best CNA this afternoon for over an hour-I think I did say a few times she loves to talk? I now have my fingers crossed, I would cross my toes too but they will not cooperate. She goes to the job on Monday to see the nurse and get the OK to come back to work. She only has 2 clients and I have talked to the other one a few times-a wounded vet in a wheel chair. She has a good sense of humor like Yvette had and the three of us were talking on phones and laughing.
Maybe I will not have lazy dirty hands many more times. I just went to put away the dishes she washed this morning and out of 8 items 4 I had to wash over. Butter dish still had butter on it. Small pan and cover I used last night and had soaking and should have been easy to wash were were still dirty. as soon as I picked both up I could see the food on them. If I had to put up with her much longer I would be calling the office and complain. I know it would do no good, I would get the came old story "we are short of help"
Will be on Skype soon to talk to Arizona so think I will get ready to talk for at least an hour with Regina.
Have a good rest of the day.
well good night and sweet dreams. it has been a good day hope to see you all tomorow, in good health and spirets.
Lloyd
Well, I'm here but I'm thinking of taking a walk down to the river tomorrow and pitching this computer in and then walking home. If I do that, I'll have to start in the morning and probably won't get back until supper time! Or maybe I won't get back at all! I'm getting so frustrated with getting things done!
RICK, just in case you don't get my email (or you get the wrong one) I'm going to try to post the recipe in the recipe folder on here. The one I got off line was so many pages and so many words that I typed it up and was looking for the buttons to print a copy for me and to make a copy to email to you and I lost it. But I know I can put it on here and it will do as I say. You can copy it from here.
All these companies that make computer (and phones) should have classes aimed at old folks who didn't grow up with this stuff. When I was in high school I took a typing class and it was one of those old typewriters that you use a bar to return the paper roller to the beginning of the next line. If you every watch Perry Mason you might see a secretary using one of those. I loved my first electric typewriter but everything was still on one page and to send it you needed a 5 cent stamp and an envelope.
Oh well, I'm going to hit the haystack and hope for a better day tomorrow! It can't be as frustrating as this one was! Good night my friends!
Jane, - I'll be on the look out for that recipe. If by chance you can't get it here I'll just wing it (when I get the meat) and use my mother's old recipe as a guide. My mom's recipe is only partial, as the ribbon in her old portable typewriter was almost shot and pretty dry. But she did try.
Good morning
We had a gentle rain during the night, all the plants are well watered now.
Another day of not sure how it will go,need outside work, inside work and sewing to do.
Working off my tablet and will be back when computer is on.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend! The weather here is cooler (in the low 60s and only going to the high 60s today.
RICK, I got the recipe posted over in that place. It worked fine over there. I have to get some lessons from my daughter while I'm visiting her. I also noticed that you made my COWBOY STEW and liked it. I've already made that twice and I really like it!!
I have to get moving this morning. My daughter, Cathy, is picking me up to do some errands and I have a few things to do before she gets here. I hope you all have a great day!
We've always liked Dogs & Beans. But the Barbecue sauce adds much to the end product. I usually try to find the beans with onion and bacon - or is it bacon and onion. I know that's going to be done again soon.
Good morning everyone, Woke too early to stay up so laid on the couch and slept 3 more hours. Slow moving and almost 10 am already. After sunny days and cooler temperature it is overcast warmer at 66° but feels damp. No cna on Fridays so today I am on my own and can even stay in my night clothes and be lazy all day if I want. After talking to Yvette yesterday I am hoping with fingers crossed that she will be back next week. I think I am having it hard with that lazy dirty hands but her other client has only had a few in all the months we have had to do without Yvette. She does live pretty far for most people and she has dogs. Yvette loves driving so that is OK and she likes dogs. Now they are using the excuse of the cost of gas, the company is not giving them more for traveling and they use $2.00 as a base for what they give them for gas.
JANE I don't have far to take my this Dell to a river. Just have to throw it down the bank in back of this property and there is the river. I should not blame Dell but Microsoft or that that rich guy in Washington state. 10 I am used to and like but still not as good as the old XP we had but putting it together with 11 stinks. I am not into gaming like 11 is and I will not pay to watch a movie on the computer. I still have the HP here and if had the strength I would move this one off the desk and put that one back here. I would label all the wires first so I would know where they go.
Had enough coffee so think I will now have brunch-too late to call it breakfast?
Have a good day and stay safe.
GURRRRRR. I DID IT AGAIN‼️😩 Lost my post‼️
Another week over and done.....where does the time go?
Monday I had 2 MRI's....one on the hip and one on my lower back, as well as a CT of the hip. Hopefully they will be able to find out what is going on and it can be helped🙏🙏
Our grands have finished this school year.....hard to believe it is this time of year already.
This is a sad time for the family. Michele's Birthday and their anniversary is this coming this week, The 17th, the day she passed is quickly approaching .
Happy news is coming though too....our new grandson is slated to be delivered on the 2nd of June🙏🙏
I enjoy reading all of your posts so much, 🥰🥰. Cherish the special friendship s that we share here🥰🥰
I wish you all a happy and safe Memorial Day Weekend. Ours will be spent doggie sitting in the city by the bay....San Francisco 🦋 So excited to be able to go do something different 🥰
Jenny
I went out and did a little shopping this morning...got a new hose, a back brush, some bird seed, stopped at the ATM, got a graduation cared for my grandniece, and also picked up 2 candy bars for me! Just as we drove in my driveway, it started raining so I didn't need the hose today!
I didn't get much done around here today. I made the mistake of picking up my book to read while I ate my lunch. Then I transferred myself to the couch for more comfortable reading and ended up taking a short nap. Then I read some more, did some paper work and a little cleaning and that was my day. Oh yes, I filled the bird feeder and sprinkled some around on the ground for the squirrels! And now I'm gonna hit the hay. Tomorrow, we have to take the recycling to the place where they collect it and that's my only plan so far.
So I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow. And may God bless us, every one!
good Night and sweet dreams everyone. I had a good post almost made and the grimlons done it again, it dissaperied and I can not fiend it. I was saying that Nancy gave me a good night kiss and orders to shave.
shaveing is not one of my faveriots. but keeping peace in the familey I best go shave. I hope to see you all tomorow in good health and spirets. except for the smiles here in S & F,s life is no fun anymore. JaneS keep on takeing care of gods animals. I spend a lot of daylight time here in my office watching the birds. I need to make a bird feeder and put it way out front by the trees. so to keep the mess out there, when I was still on the farm i put one close out front and they made a big mess. good night and sweet dreams.

Good morning everyone. Had a call late yesterday from the office and I was told she had good news for me-she said she thought the best news lately. Of course I had already talked to Yvette but we aren't supposed to talk with each other except when she is here working. She told me she will be here Tuesday. YIPPEE now it is official. I think if I had to face another day with lazy dirty hands I would have called and canceled her and most likely lost all help I get.
It is 64° and the humidity is 96%. I have the AC on just to dry the air in here.
JANE I was wondering about your "Harry" Belafonte is the only one I can think of and he sure has got old but a handsome man and good actor. Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?
JENNY I have been lucky and only lost a few posts in all the years since I joined SN and Bis's Busy Nest. So glad way back in the Nest that Oscar told me about using Notepad to type on. When this site got changed Larry sent me the formula for getting my font big enough to read without straining eyes. Prayers that with all those tests the doctors can help you. I know my back cannot be helped. Nothing for arthritis in the spine, that cannot be replaced.
LLOYD hope those gremlins bothering your computer go bother someone else.
Have a good day and stay safe.
Good Morning everyone, It Is clear and 66º here this morning . Gloria I do not want to get you in trouble. But I would have a pan of warm watter and a bar of soap setting out and a iron skillet handy and tell dirty hands get busy or do not come back. it is clear and 66º here this morning. I shaved but Nancy has not noticed it. have a great day.
Lloyd
I got up about 3:30 to lots of lightning & thunder but just sprinkles of rain. Naturally the wind is blowing and it makes shadows on the wall in my bedroom from the tall crepe myrtle swaying back & forth.
My main reason for the wake up was Tiger wasn't waiting for her "midnight snack" and I don't have a clue where she might be. She has always had a habit of sneeking off to explore or sleep and get closed in a closet or outside. She has not been herself since her mother (Callie) disappeared. She didn't look for Tom because she watched him die and understood. These animals do think and have feelings.
I'll fry an egg & bacon and turn that half of a baked potato into yummy hash browns, with toast & coffee warm in my tummy, will go sleep for a few hours more. Cooking has not been fun since my kitchen TV went out. I did get another, same brand so I could set up myself. Wrong! Bought the smallest Viseo makes but 2" larger than the one before, but this one insists I connect it to my wi-fi and won't let me put in the password for that. I've tried all the learning videos from uTube but this is that stubborn streak in my head that causes me so much trouble. I hate changes & should have realized it would be very different, don't remember how old the other was & my son doesn't have a shop to know how many changes like Jane's!
My son will come bail me out again. He sneaked over yesterday & mowed the front yard with the new battery powered Toro, I never heard a thing & he opened the garage door, got the mower & weed whip out but didn't come inside the house. He thought my oldest gr-daughter had picked me up to go to lunch because the car was in the garage. Little unnerving to think I didn't hear a thing and that's my excuse for having a dog next time, cats just don't bark when someone is around, these just disappear.
Speak of the devil.... she showed up at the door just now, been outside all night! Not sure where they hide out when it storms but come in totally dry. She is drinking her milk and will wait for me to go back to bed & join me. I'm not thrilled about that since I know we have ticks down by the river & that the rabbits carry them up to the yard. Tiger doesn't have the flea & tick stuff on because I can't hold her & squeeze the tube at the same time. She hides when the kids come around & since she hasn't been out all night or even go out of the pool area for a long time, I haven't made it a priority. A must do (love hind sight, don't you?)
Gloria, I'm so happy for you that your buddy will be back this week. If you can spare a few minutes I'll bet we would all put a big "WELCOME BACK, YVETTE" you could show her, if you want. I will (if YOU want)... on her first day back. I'm grinning at this silly computer!
Lloyd, one year when Cas was making bird feeders for everyone for Christmas, he left one of the glass sides off & put it by the back door. A pair of red headed house finches was looking for a place to nest. Sure enough, male finch went into the opened side & wooed her down to have a look and she agreed. They started bringing in twigs & leaves for the nest & since the other side was glass, we could watch the whole process of laying eggs & feeding the babies. Didn't do it a 2nd time because it was messy! Then one day all the babies took turns flying off to a tree in the yard. They do want to build right next to the house, heard about one nesting in a wreath on the door. One of the kids had given us a bird feeder so Cas used it as a pattern, he was like you, always building something.
Tiger finished her bowl of milk & ready to get some sleep, waiting for me to get off this computer & go back to bed. She will be disappointed when I head to the stove instead! Been up 2 hours & won't get much sleep since early-bird son will call to see if I'm ready for him to come help. Checked Fitbit & only 4 hours & 32 min sleep with NO deep or even REM so far. I will be a zombie if I don't get a couple more zzzzzzzzzzs.
5:51 right now (CST) & expect both Amy & Jane has posted already. Have a great day & hope everyone plans a super gathering for "Decoration Day". Our bunch will be scattered, one family had a funeral on Friday (other side gr-mother) that changed their plans & we all adjusted ours to gather later in the week. Starting to get light so end of rambling.
I agree with Lloyd that this place is the highlight of my day. 67 degrees right now.
Good morning everyone. the bird trafic is light this morning, But I had a good suprise this morning two doe dear,s not in any hurrie wandered across the yard.
Lloyd
Good sunny morning ..
No rain so far so out the laundry goes on the line! Yesterday it rained off and on all day and into the evening. Babe said it was also thundering off in the distance too.
Blossoms on crabapple tree are almost done, thankfully the lilacs are still blooming.
Lloyd, did you take a phot of your deer or did they tip toe by you?
Shirley, happy to read Tiger made it back home.
Gloria , as Shirley said we will all welcome back Yvette!! I, too am smiling at the thought of her coming back and I am sure you could do a happy dance!! :pineapple: :pineapple:
Jenny, hope they find out your problem and correct it for you.
Patricia, what is the weather like there now? We have had a few heavy frosts here and we may get one in June but for the most part is is warmer weather for us.
Jane, I love getting lost in a book..time seems to fly by on me when I do.
Better get..
Enjoy your day and stay safe..
Amy No my thinker was dead so i just enjoyed watching them go by.
Lloyd
Good Morning Everyfriend! I'm a bit late getting here this morning. I had a few things that needed done due to my lazy day yesterday.
SHIRLEY, birds seem to find the wreath on my daughter's front door every year. She's had birds nest there for several years. She has year-round wreaths on her door. And yes, I will be happy to welcome back YVETTE if Gloria wants us to do that! At least she'll note how much GLORIA talked about missing her!
There are lots of finches coming and going on the bird feeder and Harry has taken up residence under it. I haven't seen George, John or Charlie under it yet and Stan Musial hasn't come by yet this morning. (FYI: Stan's a Cardinal)
Today will be soup day. I have everything set out and I'm ready to have it for lunch...and more!
Cathy will be by a bit later to take me and my recycling to the drop off center. She's probably going to holler at me because I have it all out on the porch. She doesn't think I should carry it...so I don't! I drag it! The worst part is the newspapers! They're HEAVY! But don't tell Cathy I said that!
I better get on my horse and get moving! I still have about 50 pages of my book to read and they're hollering at me. But there's stuff to do before I can finish that. And Cooper will be arriving shortly before 10 and he'll think we should take a walk! I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!
Good morning from a bright and sunny Interior!
Gloria, excellent news about Yvette! I'm sure both of you will be so glad she's back!
Jane, enjoy your busy day and Cooper! I'm odd with books I'm craving. I tend to put them off so I can savor the anticipation.
Lloyd, enjoy your birds and deer. We have a few moose in town, but it's nothing like it used to be. They say we have an intercity population of about 200, but you never notice them, even as large as they are unless they move. We have several creeks, rivers, streams, and natural ditches in this city of 100,000, so they travel along those.
The birds are limited as much of the Interior is forested, and owls and hawks watch the birds in the open areas. We have ravens in the winter who retreat to the mountains during summer and pigeons and robins and a few similar-sized birds but less and less seen as trees disappear in my area.
Shirley, Farrah is an older cat but still spry. Her comfort is to lie down in front of me with an audible oof! She lies on her side, straightens, and pushes her legs out in a straight line. She then moves her head to look at me and seems to wink. This is my signal to get down and run my right hand down her back-scratching while the left-hand does the same for her stomach. If I'm not down in a timely manner, she will come up to me, place both front paws on me, squeaking a bit before repeating the whole performance.
If I miss that signal, she retires to another area and ignores me as her punishment. Alan thought I imagined it until he and Dora saw it in person.
Amy, the weather has turned to blue skies, sunshine, and warmth, with everything budded out and thriving. Unfortunately, the rivers are still running high, at bankful, and some flooding upstream. Now they're talking about possible fires down south between Anchorage and us. You can't win weatherwise around the world, it seems.
I've got laundry to do; however, with only a washer and dryer for each floor and five floors of apartments, I've learned better. The weekend will be laundry busy, and Monday is busy because all the CNAs and other helpers will be using for all their clients they didn't see during the weekend. The middle of the week is best.
Claire told me that the dirt and gravel roads are still bad in the foothills. Supposedly DOT has some emergency plan they're going to implement sometime. One of the people has a hummer, and for the price of gas, he's taking grocery lists and or folks for supplies. "they" say that the snow we had last winter causing the damage and floods in the hills and plains were the most in 99 years of recordkeeping. Nothing new on the two expanding sinkholes. We had three in town during the 1967 flood but none since then. These two in the lower foothills are the first-ever seen there
https://www.msn.com/en-us/weather/topstories/sinkholes-their-causes-and-effects-in-alaska/ar-AAXO8aS?ocid=msedgntp&cvid=682793771c81492aab6d45fd51131938
.
Busy day here with a lot accomplished!! Laundry was solar dried . Kyle may have
sale for a 4 foot trug , long with a top for it so off we went to pick up lumber for the top. Traffic is not nice! All in a hurry to get to their grave!
Patricia, I think the last of the folks without power should have it on today...can't imagine all the spoiled food that has to be thrown out. Our friend has 2 hummers one of which he let me drive. Talk about a ride, and comfortable to sit in. We call the other one the "summer Hummer" that one goes up for the winter .
Think I will try and get a bit of sewing done..
Interesting article, Patricia. My husband was impressed when he was in FL with the sink holes down there (probably 25-30 years ago). He got invited to go on golf or fishing & hunting trips now & then when he was working.
Tiger is still huffy tonight about her food. I put some Friskies canned food, some people salmon & serving of KFC white meat chicken in her bowl (dish is oblong), food wasn't touching each other so hoped she would find something that pleased her. Didn't work, she walked away because this is the time of day she likes her raw eye of round roast meal (cut in small bites). She turned her nose up at the last steak so I didn't get more. She doesn't want it unless fresh, maybe 2 days in the frig but wants it fresh.
Most of this area had power out from an hour to long enough one of the stores mentioned having the throw away all the packaged meats in the deli... mine was off about 2 hours so didn't throw anything away, just didn't fan the frig door!
Son got over to fix all my problems. Simple things "they" assume everyone knows. How to get capital letters when typing in the wi-fi password. First place I didn't want TV to go to the wi-fi but couldn't get the page to choose. He showed me (not that I'll remember), but at least I can cook again!!! :crazy2:
I would like a brain transplant, ain't happy with all these electronics. While here son got the family room TV re-connected with the recorder so I can tape shows I want to see when I want to see them. Anything that could go wrong did it this week and any bill (such as the termite people & car insurance) sent their yearly bills. Termite people are to inspect once a year but said "someone would call back to set the time", nobody called so I'm waiting to pay for another year. The dryer earned it's retirement but could have waited until I caught my breath (54-55 years old)!
Had to buy the new battery powered mower last week so I can mow or gr-grandson can. He's 12 going on 18 & wanting to buy his own phone... I also had to order string for the weed whip & needed a new battery, same brand weed whip battery more than doubled in price so I checked with my Amazon what the "buy it again" price was & it was better to buy the whole thing. I watched for price increases & it didn't show up until the final check out (went up quite a bit but still better value to buy the whole thing). Tomorrow son & gr-son will open the pool. I called the pool guy to see how much the new rate is because while he does the closing, son usually likes to do the opening. Costs me the same either way (I insist) but son will do a neater job. Won't be surprised if the pump & motor will need to be replaced this year. All in all, I've had an expensive week and none of it was for fun & giggles.
Amy, I've never been in a Hummer but wondered why/what they were used for. I know the RVs have a kitchen, bedroom & bathroom but didn't think Hummer would haul like a pickup & no bed & bath for camping... so have not yearned for one. I do love vehicles so tell me your impression of their value, please, no intention of buying one but I enjoy looking!
Time for my Sat. night shower & wash hair. Hoped to finish scrubbing that utility room floor after I move out the litter box. Won't install the new until Tuesday so "one day at a time". Dozed off thinking so better get moving. Can't take that litter box out until time for them to deliver. Tiger will go hide out in the bedroom area (a litterbox back there) or down to the basement & one down there at the foot of the steps that I will have to move since they replace the hose that vents to outside.
Have a Marie Callender pecan pie waiting to eat before I hit the shower... I do love those pies, used to get the "turtle pie" but haven't seen those in a long time. Sweet dreams and God Bless all.
Hello Everyfriend! SHIRLEY, I thought I'd had a bad day a few days ago but mine was pretty good compared to what you just went through! Hang in there!
I'm off to the haystack! Having a quick snack while I type this and then I'm off! I hope you all have a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow. And may God bless us, every one!
Good morning
Another beautiful day in the making here. A day of rest, just let the day happen :) I did manage some sewing to the point of finishing off a quilt top and can start another.
Patricia, can you just imagine what it would be like to have the ground go out beneath your feet!! The not knowing if your house would ne next or driving down the road and have this happen?
Shirley, these are some of his play toys. With the price of gas I don't think I would want one. They did have their use in the army, now they are just an expensive vehicle to have. They would haul like a pickup. Good luck on getting a new dryer! I am still in a love/hate relation with this new washer.
Jane, each day I say I am going to make your rhubarb juice and each day something or someone pops in. I do have all the ingredients at hand. I am not going to use oj as I can't drink that but did buy 5 alive and for water will use peach juice.
Better shake a leg and get ready for the day.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
I'm up and attem. When I'm finished here I'll go get my shower and get ready to be picked up for church! The weather is in the mid 60s right now and heady for the high 70s with no rain expected today. When I get home from church I should be happily greeted by Cooper who will be dropped off as Frankie heads for work.
Don't know what's on the agenda for today since I finished my book last night. Maybe I'll do the switcheroo with the tee shirts and sweater drawers. I should be thinking about what I'm taking to OKLA with me.
I wish you all a good day....better than yesterday (especially SHIRLEY'S yesterday) but not as good as tomorrow! Take it easy and enjoy it!
Good morning everyone that showes up today. It Looks Like so far Is AMY and JaneS. we are at 70º and mostly cloudy Now according to the weather guesser. there was somengting laying in our driveway, I went out to see what it was, It was a peice of old dear hide the dogs have drug up. when i get dressed with my regulary shoes on I will og out and get it and put it in the dumpster. the wend is shakeing the trees pretty good.Only birds i have seen so far is one barn swallow and one sparo, the barn swallos have built a nest in our enteryway. I guess the wend has then settled in some where. I taken my blod ugar the docter has changed precduer he wants, me to weaight one houre after I have taken my blod sugar and meds, to take my blod pressror. have a good day,
Lloyd
Good morning, similar day to yesterday, low fifties reaching to mid-seventies. Although we recently had a quick cloud burst but all is sunny again.
Amy, I don't know what to say about the sinkholes. I would worry if I lived in the hills. In fact, I do worry as many of my friends do and, as a result, are stuck up there even with the snow receded and gone. With the weather running statements about minor flooding AND possible fires simultaneously, I'm beginning to feel like Jove.
Today will be another do-nothing day. It was late when I finally got to sleep and four when I awoke. It's only 5:32 AM now.
Not much action in here since I was here this morning....only LLOYD and PATRICIA! I hope everyone else is having so much fun they just don't have time to sit down at the computer!
I got a start on tomorrow's laundry. I started to lay out the clothes that I'm going to pack to take to OKLA with me and I had to wash some of the stuff that I've been wearing so I could lay it out. I also changed all the drawers around. I now have all the sweaters except for two that I might want to wear on a chilly day, packed away for the summer and all the short sleeved shirts are in the drawers. Now for the pants.
As soon as this load in the dryer is finished and hung on hangers, I'm hitting the hay. Cooper won't be coming until almost 10 tomorrow so I can sleep in...in hope!
I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one! And may he watch over the Ukrainians and the school children!
Good morning.
Sorry for the small print but I don't have an option on this laptop.
All is well in this neck of the woods.
Enjoy your day and stay safe
GOOD Morning AMY and everyone else that fallow. the weather guesser says mostly cloudy, and that is what we have at the moment. the scatterd clouds are setting stil,we have light wend, just gentialy shaking the tree leves and the sun is brakeing through now. so looks like we will have a good day. my vitals are confusing this morning. my blod sugar tested , 204 but I had last small fudge bar before midnight.? I am going to call the docter and see what he has to say.
Lloyd
Good morning everyone, had trouble getting here this morning. Kept looking for yesterday's post with no luck. I know I posted and we were talking about Yvette coming back tomorrow. Could not find any post from yesterday. Oh well what I posted was nothing important anyway.
66° and 81% humidity. The sky is blue and the sun is shining. Good day to celebrate the holiday and the parades
JANE hope you got to sleep in, I sure did this morning, got almost 9 hours sleep last night and feel awake but not moving all those hours I sure feel the pains this morning. Just think-tomorrow I will finally get a good back massage and that I have missed a lot. Yvette already knows I am looking forward to that tomorrow.
LLOYD isn't 204 high to start the day?
Had my coffee and now will get my breakfast.
Have a good day and stay safe.
Happy Memorial Day.
Working on the tablet (no fun)
The tablet doesn't have a problem with the codes. Thank you Glora for the codes I will try them with the laptop.
Taking the computer in to the tech and letting him find the problemHeoping Kyle 8n the shop and tea break is done. /color]
Good Morning Everyfriend!
GLORIA, I did sleep in...until 7 a.m. this morning. That's good because I usually wake up around 5 or 5:30!
My next to last load is in the washer and the last load is waiting by the washer for it's turn. It's just the towels. When the load in the washer is done, I'll have to make up the bed and that means I have to finish the folding because the bed is my folding table.
I have a suitcase laid open on Frankie's bed the the things that I'm 100% sure I'm taking to OK are in it. Beside it are the things I MIGHT be taking. If Frankie chooses to stay over, I'll have to make some decisions. If she doesn't, I have until Cindy shows to make my decisions.
Later, I have to go out and try to get the old hose off the outside spigot and attach the new one and make sure it's long enough to reach the plantings. When the sun sets a bit and it cools off outside, I'll have to water the plants. We're not doing as much this summer since I won't be here but Frankie has PROMISED that she'll water what's there!
One of the bonus's of doing the laundry is that it gets sorted in the back and transferred to the laundry room waaaaaay down the hall. This time, I transferred it by carrying one load and pushing one with my foot. The hall got cleaned up automatically!
AMY, I sure hope you get your computer back soon! It's a pain to be without!
GLORIA, OH, HAPPY DAY, TOMORROW! Tell YVETTE that we ALL welcome her back!
LLOYD, that sugar count sounds high to me, too. You better check it out and no more chocolate bars before bedtime!
The dryer just stopped so it's back to work for me...or should I put an egg in my shoe and beat it? Or should I climb back on my horse? Maybe I'll just do as my Gramma used to tell us and "Get a move on!" Have a great day...bnetter than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!
Merry Monday and a Blessed Memorial Day to everyone.
JaneS, I've forgotten when you're due to arrive in Oklahoma. Not sure what the weather's like on the East Side but here in the Central Part, the wind has been "sweeping down the plain" in gale force for several days. We've also had lots and lots of rain but - thank goodness - nothing severe (at the moment! ::) )
Lloyd, tsk tsk on that fudge bar! No wonder your count was so high this morning.
Gloria, so glad Yvette is coming back and know you're looking forward to that back massage.
Shirley, wish you could have a break from all those issues that keep cropping up. Smartest thing I ever did was move from the house with the big yard and multiple things to take care of.
Sons/dils are with "the other sides" today; Miss Emily and Sir Carson are with their "significant others". So it's a "usual Monday" for me.
Enjoy your day, Everyfriend.
CALLIE, the time was changed for travel several times due to some problems on Cindy's end but I think it's final now...we're leaving here on the 12th of June. It's nice to be old and flexible to change in my case. Both my Eastern daughters are making the trip with us so the four of us will have a fun trip!
Jane the young man said it would be a couple of days and then I hope to have it back.
Put rhubarb, strawberries on to cook and will put in some crushed pineapple to have for dessert.
Helped Kyle put up a led tri light then while he was having a nap, I put up two more that I had picked up. Nice surprise for him. :smitten:
Laundry again, maybe more sewing if all works out.Started another cancer quilt and hope to get 2 more done.
Break time over... >:(
Trying Larrys code...hope this is better.
Let It Be
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NtDiBqlQ4Vw
I'M DONE! AND I'M DONE IN! I did everything that I planned and a couple more things, too
I finished the laundry and got the bed changed. I have all the stuff folded and put away. I've been through most of my clothes and I pretty well know what I'm taking to OK. The nice part of this is that if I forget something or just plain don't take it, I can borrow from Cindy. Not pants but shirts and shoes are exchangeable.
I must say, I hate, loathe and detest TV commercials. I'm sure glad I don't know anyone who makes their living through them. I'm even getting tired of turning the sound off so I don't have to listen!
I need to make a trip to the store one of these days. I'm trying to use up all the stuff I have that I know Frankie won't use while I'm gone and I'm trying not to buy a lot of stuff but I've run out of milk and coffee creamer and I have a real hankering for some hot dogs. There are a couple of other things I need, too.
It was a HOT day today! The temp got up to 94º and there was only a slight breeze. Cooper and I took three walks and both our tongues were hanging out when we got home. We both came in and flopped!
Tonight, I had a bunch of visitors in the yard...Donal and Daisy Duck were back and when I went out with some bread for them they hippity hopped over to the side of the yard until I was back up on the porch then they moved in on it. Daisy got there first and she picked up a piece of bread, turned around and tossed it in front of Donald and her mouth moved like she was telling him to enjoy! Then she moved past some of it and had her own. After they finished, they walked down to the shady end of the yard and Daisy kept a vigilance until Donald found a nice spot to lie down and then she cuddled up. While I was watching them, George, the biggest grey squirrel, made himself at home under the bird feeder and was joined by a couple of the birds. I was sitting on the porch watching all this and a chipmunk ran so close his tail rubbed my bare foot. Nice way to end a day!
Now I'm going to hit the haystack early because Cooper will arrive early tomorrow and I'm beat right down to my sox...and I'm not even wearing sox. Good night my friends. Sleep tight and don't let the bedbugs bite!
good morning again, the grimlens are at it again. I had a good post made, hit post and it went away, can not fiend it. may not be a good day here, Nancy is not feeling good today, so shey is like a biting old sow this morning, so i may just go to shop or motor home by my self , the motor home has a TV in it. Have a good day enjoyyour selves.
Lloyd
Good Morning LLOYD and anyone else who shows up today! Cooper has arrived, had his breakfast and he's soon ready for a walk, hopefully before it gets too hot! It's supposed to be into the mid 90s again today.
I'm hoping that Cathy decides to do a little grocery shopping one day this week. I really need a couple things! I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!
Good morning.
Like Lloyd I wrote a long post and that is not easy on a tablet.
So will say enjoy your day and stay safe
About the time I come up for air something else hits... weather has been crazy with T-storms almost every night that wakes me up. Lack of sleep does things to memory so ...
Storm watch/warning for later today (about time the dryer is to be delivered & I have to get the car out of the garage for them to come thru that door), daughter should be driving in from St.Louis about the same time & I'm going to be cooking chicken & noodles all day to serve anyone that shows up hungry. Have to empty & scrub out 2 litter boxes & scrub the floor under the one in the utility room. I dread what the floor looks like & had hoped to not do a make over until the last cat gone & then put in new flooring. More to-dos & hope the rest of the week is a little easier.
And this is the day YVETTE RETURNS! Welcome back, Yvette, you have been missed!
Shirley in Kansas
GOOD MORNING GREETINGS FROM the left coast‼️
We have been enjoying our time with family in San Francisco. I love this city❣️ It has been my favorite place for as long as I can remember🥰 We arrived on Saturday.....got picked up at SFO driven around town to so many favorite sites. Another tour around on Sunday. Happy Happy‼️
GLORIA, so happy to read your good news.....YVETTE returns today🥰🥰
We spent a quiet Memorial Day with our Grand Doodle as his parents headed off for a couple of days of beach time💗. Their home here is lovely and we are so comfortable. We sat out in their back yard yesterday and felt like we were on a tropical island.
The weather has been perfect since we have been here.....beautiful blue skies....just lovely 😊
Only a couple more days and our new grandson should be arriving🙏 So excited🥰
Enjoy this blessed day, EVERYFRIEND 💗
Jenny
Good morning, bright blue skies here with the sun out and never setting. At 20 hours and 42 minutes of daylight, you can watch the sun skirting the foothills, never dipping below as it moves left to right.
Another blistering day out there. Planted some butternut squash and I think that will be it unless I find a spot for more bush beans.
Not a good day for Kyle....hope on Thur the Dr can come up with something to solve the problem. Tomorrow we are off to the city for his audiologist appointment. Will see if the neighbour will look after the dogs for us. I am looking after their pets today. :) Just came back from giving Rex his pill.
Gloria, I bet you and Yvette are having a wonderful chat time, with a good back rub thrown in. YVETTE YOU WERE MISSED!
Patricia, I remember when we were up in the Yukon then over to Alaska and not night to speak of..will try and find the phot that folks took of Kyle and I at 10:30 pm ..looks like day!!
Better quit while I am ahead on this ..take care
WELCOME BACK, YVETTE! GLORIA ISN'T THE ONLY ONE WHO MISSED YOU! WE ALL DID!
We finally hit 80 degrees yesterday!
A little over 21 hours today and increasing until June 21st and the summer solstice. Unfortunately, it starts to decrease minute by minute again until the winter solstice. If you can stay awake for the entire 24 hours, you will see the sun start on the right, move left, and then turn back right again, never passing behind the foothills.
Gloria, so glad for you and Yvette!
Jane, it sounds like you are enjoying the preplanning almost as much as the trip anticipation!
Amy, I'm sorry Kyle's not doing well. Your neighbors are so lucky to have you, and I'm sure will help!
It gets even crazier the further north you go as Barrow on the arctic coast has six months of daylight and six months of darkness.
Does the Canadian town of Herschel have similar daylight?
Here are a number of midnight sun, timelapse photos.

Just a quickie...I had a phone call from GLORIA and she isn't able to get on her computer. She said her mouse won't do anything and she can't go anywhere without it. She tried calling her grandson who is so good about fixing things for her and she got his answering system. She also said that having YVETTE there was a real treat! They talked. Yvette shopped, cooked and back rubbed and she stayed longer than her regular time to do the back rub! No extra charge!
Now I have to go watch my dinner so it doesn't burn! Enjoy!
Jane, thank for letting us know about Gloria.
Almost all of the folks have their power back on. NY,PA,and men from NB have helped. Here the hydro/power trucks have been on the go night and day.
Talked with the neighbour and she will look after our fur kids for us.
Temp is in the 90,s ac is working ,thank goodness.
I'm off to the haystack a bit early tonight. I'm wiped out! I bought one of those hoses that Richard Karn from the old "Home Improvement" show advertises on TV. It starts out about 10 feel long and as water fills, it's supposed to extend to 50 feet. I'd say it made it to about 15 feet! And that's about 20 feet short of where I needed it. I ended up carrying about 15 buckets of water to get everything that needed watered....watered. I'm not doing THAT again. I'm calling the local hardware store where I bought it and complaining. They're very good about complainers! Maybe I'm doing something wrong but there is water going through it. It's just not getting long enough!
Anyway, I'm tired and I'm gonna go conk out. I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow. And may God bless us, every one!
Jane, I keep the nozzle shut off until my hose expands the full length... I bought a 25' one first & next time got the 75'. The nozzles that came with them are worn out so I had to get another from Ace, chose the all brass but don't like it nearly as well as the others BUT they just came apart in pieces. The trick is to let it hold it's water in until it reaches the limit & then open the nozzle. After dragging those heavy "lifetime" Sears ones, I'm so happy with the lighter weight. Thanks for the news of Gloria!
Gloria, my son got tired of bailing me out so asked permission to take control of my computer from his house to make repairs. Worked & haven't had a problem since. Without them (computers) we'd be so alone, but they sure can drive us nuts!
Got the dryer in & set up, such a pain to install gas but they work so nice. Don't expect new one to last for 55 years but think they are worth the extra cost.
We're in the middle of major storm with all size hail & lots of rain. Poor little lettuce seeds, even the tiny sprouts will float out if it doesn't slow down soon. Lots of lightning. I took a video with the iPad of the hail, it was bigger than the weather man said we got. Hammered the water in the pool & bigger than those rubber balls that were attached to the wooden paddle when we were kids?
Jenny, do love how you & Bob bounce around to visit the kids. How's the shoulder & other parts doing? When we visited San Fran the company that provided the mini-bus to haul all of us around agreed to take us down that (stuck for name) winding street. Half way down someone asked if the driver ever had a problem on that stretch, to which he commented, "never did this before".... so we all took a deep breath. And to be honest, your woods & mountains are MY FAV place in the world! Any idea how long you'll be out there?
I'm dead on my feet, cooked a big pot of chicken noodle soup & enough chicken to fix a big bowl of chicken salad tomorrow. Have to run to the store for more grapes, these are not crisp & I do like crisp ones. The birds don't mind if not crisp but appreciate that I cut them in half, easier to pick them up to take to the ground to pick out the goodies.
Sweet dreams to all, my disasters are under control for today & I hope to get more than 4 or 5 hours sleep tonight! It has been a long day & not a second to sit down.
