Detachment doesn't mean not caring. It's taking care of yourself first and letting others take responsibility for their actions without trying to save or punish them.
Cell phones bring you closer to a person who is far from you. But it takes you away from the ones sitting next to you.
sorry, I was late with the new page: with this cold, I overslept!
Happy new year to all!
Good 2025 morning!!
Happy new year, may health and happiness hug you tight!
The New Year came in without our help, we were sound asleep. Quiet day here..relaxing and just enjoying the day.
Bubble, thank you for the new start page. You need not apologize I do believe a wise woman posted this. It's taking care of yourself first . Wise words dear lady.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
May all your troubles during the coming year
Be as short as your New Year's resolutions.
As we start the New Year,
Let's get down on our knees
To thank God we're on our feet.

In the New Year,
May your right hand always
Be stretched out in friendship,
But never in want.

Good morning, I hope everyone is enjoying the start of a new day. And yes, Tome, you were missed. I went to bed early last night, so here I am at 3:55 am, no coffee yet, no meet and greets, they're still abed but Farrah's been fed.
I awakened at midnight by competing fireworks from the city and upon the hill from the university but soon fell back to sleep. Nothing planned for today but some reading and more internet wandering.
Good morning Patricia, hokey teddy bear you're up early!! :)
Hi Amy, I tend to sleep or more accurately nap at night and usually fall back into a doze but I guess my mind was going too fast to fall back easily. I'll probably end up in an inadvertent nap this afternoon.
Patricia, I love those naps when one can squeeze them in. Just came in from cleaning off the back walkway and the apron going into the garage. Although the snow is so pretty it is a stinker to move...rolls ahead of the shovel. :(
Tome, ditto what Patricia said.
Also missing for a while now is PatH2O (PatH), whom I suspect is also surrounded by family and friends and enjoying herself immensely.
I found some pork chops I forgot I had, so I am back to pork and sauerkraut for today. I also did another grocery order (early) and now have rye bread to make an open-faced Reuben with leftover sauerkraut. So, all set for the next day or so.
I guess a bunch of you will be watching football and the Rose Bowl Parade among others today.
:hb2: Happy New Year everyone!
Woke up to the news from New Orleans knowing my grandson was there with his girlfriend - could not get through to my son or to Cody and getting scared by the minute - finally after about a half hour got through to my daughter-in-law who had talked with Cody and all was well... I'm breathing again...
And so with that bit of wakeup news onward - hope everyone is ready to make the New Year great. Happy New Year!
Ah, MarsGal, I love a good Reuben! Wish I had one today.
Good morning...
Haven't been out yet but I think there may be a wee bit of a waltz needing to bo done. Not a lot of snow and I hope it is not as heavy as yesterday's snow. Temp is 24° do I think the moisture has gone out of the snow making it easier to move.
Not sure what else is happening, will know better tonight.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend! And just in case I didn't wish it to you yesterday "Happy New Year" I went over to daughter Cathy's for supper last night and I had my sauerkraut for the new year. I can almost hear my grandfather (he was German) saying, "You'll be lucky this year!"
I didn't make it in here last night. I had Cooper overnight and I fell asleep on the couch with the TV on and it was 9:30 when I woke up. My first thought was "at least I don't have to be up to mee Cooper in the morning". He was asleep on the couch with me. He spent the night. We just had our morning walk and it's COLD out there! It says 31 degrees, feels like 18 degrees! I think I'll stay in as much as I can today. I do have to stop by the dr.s office for a lab test and Cathy says we can stop by WM to pick up the stuff on my list.
I wish you all a great day! Make it your own in every way and pop back in and let us know how you did that. we might like to try your way and junk our own!
Happy New Year, Everyfriend!
I posted this just before Bubble changed the page! Seem to make a habit of that. Resolution is to keep up with the date and wait.
Until I married a Mississippi native, I didn't know about the southern tradition of having blackeyed peas on New Year's Day for good luck. So I learned to make them like his Mother did.. We used to make the sons eat one for each year of their birth. Yesterday, my son asked me if I'd had my 89 peas! (I cheated and had a spoonful with ham and biscuits).
It's terribly dry but temperatures are near freezing for a daily high. Supposed to change next week to "snow showers". Wouldn't you know I have things scheduled to do?
I need to straighten out my checkbook. Jane, would you like to junk your plans and try mine? (I didn't think so ;D )
Enjoy your day, Everyfriend. :)
CALLIE, I might be able to handle that problem. I have an Accountant in the family. I actually put her on my checking account and she checks me out when she thinks I need it. And that's more often than I think I need it. But I'm happy she does it! She keeps me honest and out of debt!
Good morning, very cold here through the fourth with ice expected again overnight. I ended up sleeping for four hours in the afternoon and then between one am and seven this morning so I'm hopefully caught up.
Meet and greets, and daily domestics finished, Farrah's fed and I'm having my first cup of coffee so I thought I would check in with all of you.
It looks like the entire world is in a deep freeze or expecting one this week. Amy, you and my sister have the same forecast while I'm the exact opposite! :-\ We'll be back in the pluses on Sunday rather dramatically with a 24 degree jump.
I'm basic about my accounting, list what comes in against what's due and split the remainder between spend and save. So far, my bank has liked that idea. My issue, I like to shop but don't need anything. I've also kept up my de cluttering so I tend to look more on what can go out then what I can bring in. That puts a damper on my shopping.
Noon and still cold - just got off the phone to a squirrel removal company - I've been hearing sounds and then New Year's eve with all the fireworks it was just after 11: and this awful caustic smell - could not figure it out and thank goodness it was a bit less in my bedroom at the end of the house but I still had to cover my head with a blanket and breath inside that space.
It wasn't till yesterday I realized it had to be animal - remember from my house in Austin when I had a racoon get into the attic - also had lots of birds get in and die up there but this was not a dead animal odor. I think the fireworks scared the wild animal just as the fireworks scares pets and so nature reacted.
I've an empty half acre lot next to me covered in trees. Between the empty lot and my own yard I never in my life saw so much squirrel activity and so I finally called and they will be out here tomorrow to inspect every inch of this house before they do anything and then if they detect entry points they will close them up and set traps around the perimeter of the house.
Not an expense my budget included but it has to be done - just spent a fortune on Furnace box and AC coils that now I'm thinking may have been damage caused by squirrels in the attic. It never stops does it...
I shall be glad when all the days get in order!! Anyone else having a problem remembering what day it is?
Jane ,told David about your sauerkraut.
Barb, it never stops. Neighbour went to go into town and her brakes fail, thankfully she was still in her yard and not on the highway when they failed. Shook her up some.. now her vehicle has been towed to the garage and another expence they don't need.
Patricia, I bought Callie a can of sardines to try...haven't heard yet how she liked or disliked them.
Amy, Farrah was on a chicken only phase and then switched to fish only, preferably salmon. Now she's turning a nose up on fish, particularly salmon. Unluckily for her, she gets what I have until It runs out and I go shopping again.
Her wet food, in conjunction with the always available water and dry food, is only a tablespoon at a time three or four times a day. She lets me know by going to her dishes and giving me a skin and bones look.
Barb, squirrels can be an issue. They're smart enough to try more than one way to solve a problem. I remember once years ago, one of the senior homes had an issue with animals getting into the food supply. They researched, and had an entire reorganization with an expensive company and thought they had solved the problem.
A couple of days later, a kitchen worker walked into the pantry and found a squirrel sitting on a fancy decorated birthday cake, enjoying the frosting immensely. The photo she took made the news.
Years ago I saw a Documentary, probably on PBS, about squirrels, and how they can solve problems to get to food. Maybe I'll try to find it.
I wish we had squirrels here, they are so fun to watch - better than our plentiful feral/wild cats.
Good mmorning..
Oh boy are we lucky!!!No dancing with Mr SB! To the south where my son lives they had to deal with snow yesterday and again today! My friend just sent a photo of her hubby out blowing snow again as he did clean it up last evening and it looks to be a foot deep! Phewww. We are usually the ones that get dumped upon with snow but not yet.
Today is nip into town to deal with a few things then home to purge the closets. One has so much fun (not).
Bubble you may have our red squirrels..they are even so bold as to have a stand off with the big crows over food.
Better get the day started.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Don (radioman) good morning to you!!!
Couldn't find the squirrel Doc I was looking for, but there are some via a search engine.
We have grey and black squirrels, and a couple of reports of a white squirrel but not red. Years back I had one that would jump up on a bench on my front porch and eat sunflower seeds out of my hand.
S&F seems to be bogging down again - slow responses.
Bubble you may have our red squirrels..they are even so bold as to have a stand off with the big crows over food.
Amy, here crows are biting off pelt from the cats back, to try and steal their food. Outside cats, not domesticated cats.
It is painful to see those wounds.
Good morning, 7:47am and it's minus 36 out there I'm looking forward to Sunday when it warms up again with that promised 23 jump. altho, we're colder than forecast, so Sunday may be iffy.
Unfortunately, I too need to go out later today to get some needed errands done so I'm hoping for an alleviation in the weather. I'll wait until after the 10:52 sunrise.I heard on the news that we had some new families arrive on one of the bases for that new fighter wing they have. I'm thinking they may not be so happy with their new assignment, or the arctic. However, after Sunday, January forecasts appear quite mild.
We have red, grey, and brown squirrels here, as well as flying squirrels. I looked it up to check my memory and found this,
"There are several subspecies of northern flying squirrel in Alaska. The subspecies Yukonensis is the most widespread in Alaska and is found throughout the Interior. Zaphaeus is the subspecies most widespread in Southeast Alaska. Griseifrons is a subspecies found only on Prince of Wales and a few closely adjacent islands. Another subspecies, Alpinus, is found in B.C. and the Yukon and is also found in Juneau area — it is believed that animals came down the Taku River corridor and the dispersed."
It's something to see them use telephone and other wires as highways and their quite adept at it.
Good day and HAPPY NEW YEAR to EVERYFRIEND 🥳
After a wonderful Christmas Eve and day spent with our little family here in Prescott AZ we saw the New Year in by watching on CNN the "Boot Drop" from Prescott live at midnight locally. It struck us funny that Prescott would be the main thing shown on national TV.
We are currently sitting with our little grands. Their mama is a RN and works three days a week while the two boys are in school. We have been filling in during the holiday vacation days so today will be our last one as school starts again next Monday. These special one on one days are exactly why we are here....
We have been having unseasonably warm temps here like many places this year. Our condo is right on the golf course where our son is the head pro and we sure have been enjoying the views of all the happy golfers out there. They are continuing to water the course as it has been so dry here.
Scary how big the drought areas are.
I wish you all the best in this new year.
Interesting article... that fits most of us...
99% of people born between 1930 and 1946 (GLOBALLY) are now dead.
If you were born in this time span, your ages range between 77 and 93 years old (a 16-year age span) and you are one of the rare surviving one-percenters.
You are the smallest group of children born since the early 1900's.
You are the last generation, climbing out of the depression, who can remember the winds of war and the impact of a world at war that rattled the structure of our daily lives for years.
You are the last to remember ration books for everything from tea to sugar to shoes. You saved tin foil and poured fried meat fat into cans.
You can remember milk being delivered to your house early in the morning and placed in the "milk box" at the front door. Discipline was enforced by parents and teachers. You are the last generation who spent childhood without television and instead, you "imagined" what you heard on the radio.
With no TV, you spent your childhood "playing outside". There was no city playground for kids. The lack of television in your early years meant that you had little real understanding of what the world was like.
We got "black-and-white" TV in the late 50s that had 3 stations and no remote. Telephones (if you had one) were one to a house and hung on the wall in the kitchen (who cares about privacy). Computers were called calculators; they were hand-cranked. Typewriters were driven by pounding fingers, throwing the carriage, and changing the ribbon. INTERNET and GOOGLE were words that did not exist.
Newspapers and magazines were written for adults and your dad would give you the comic pages after he read the news. The news was broadcast on your radio in the evening. The radio network gradually expanded from 3 stations to thousands.
New highways would bring jobs and mobility. Most highways were 2 lanes and there were no Motorways. You went downtown to shop. You walked to school.
Your parents were suddenly free from the confines of the depression and the war, and they threw themselves into working hard to make a living for their families. You weren't neglected, but you weren't today's all-consuming family focus. They were glad you played by yourselves. They were busy discovering the postwar world. You entered a world of overflowing plenty and opportunity; a world where you were welcomed, enjoyed yourselves. You felt secure in your future, although the depression and poverty were deeply remembered.
Polio was still a crippler. Everyone knew someone who had it.
You are the last generation to experience an interlude when there were no threats to our country. World War 2 was over and the cold war, terrorism, global warming, and perpetual economic insecurity had yet to haunt life. Only your generation can remember a time after WW2 when our world was secure and full of bright promise and plenty. You grew up at the best possible time, a time when the world was getting better.
More than 99% of you are retired now, and you should feel privileged to have "lived in the best of times!" If you have already reached the age of 77 years old, you have outlived 99% of all the other people on this planet. You are a 1% 'er!
That makes me feel a little better.
Rammel, the site is not the only one that slowed down this morning, About the same time you were having problems, so was I. And, when I got to the bank, they were having slow down problems too. We were hit with an X-class CME today. https://www.spaceweather.com/
I'm definitely in that 1 percent! Today is my sister's 91st birthday and my 90th is coming up in April! We both still live in our houses alone and take care of ourselves! We talked on the phone today and we both wondered how we made it so far! Of course, we had grandparents who lived into their 80s when their life expectancy was in the 60s! And our father was 84 when we lost him! We're following in their footsteps!
Today, I cooked the beef to make vegetable soup. I have some promised for the Church soupp sales which they do on the first Sunday of the Month. I promised for March!
I'm off to the haystack early tonight. It's been a busy day today! I hope your year started off great and I hope it keeps on being great!
GOOD MORNING EVERYFRIEND! I'LL BE BACK LATER WHEN SOME OF YOU ARE UP AND ABOUT!
Good morning..
Tis a bit chilly out there today temp is starting at 5°. Today we are planning to visit my sister as it is her birthday today. Not sure if this will happen
if the weather doesn't behave, will just take the day as it happens.
Jenny, good to see you..have fun with the grands.
Jane, do you remember in the winter when the milk would freeze and push the cardboard top up?
Patricia, hope you bundled up!!I must admit I am procrastinating about going out today. Will see how it goes. I took different cat food for Callie along with the sardines the other day and Callie loved the sardines!!! At least it is protein for her.
Bubble, are there that many cats running about? Poor cats!
Barb, good article.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
I remember everything in that article, Barb. The body doesn't always work but the brain is still doing pretty good for 95. I am definitely a 1 percenter.
Good Morning, All. I have had my coffee, checked my email, made sure my bank account is in good order, watched the local news, and all before the sun came up. Everthing is OK in my world. It's cold but I am warm under my furry blanket so no complaints.
Hope all is well in your world and today will be a good day for everyone.

Bubble, are there that many cats running about? Poor cats!
Dozens of them everywhere. They sleep under the parked cars on the street and fight each other for the newly arrived car so as to take advantage of the heat from the motor.
Good morning, it's minus 38 presently and yesterday, the buses were packed and taxis initiated a minimum fee. Thursday and Friday were also minus 38. The forecast was for minus twenty three and is still listed although the present listed temperature is correct. Unfortunately, I have to go out again today for some business that cannot wait.
Ouch cannot imagine living in that kind of cold... we too are expecting a freeze but nothing like you are describing... Out wrapping pipes and bringing hoses into the garage along with potted plants.
Right now it's 24 degrees here and heading for an overnight low of 22. That's COLD for this area! I took a walk today and I was loaded with clothes including long underwear and I still got cold> I think I'm very glad I don't live in Alaska!
I made an egg and potato casserole tonight. I'll let you know how it is after breakfast tomorrow. I almost dipped into it tonight. It looks tempting!
I got my beef roast cut up and put in the freezer. I'm going to need to go buy som beef broth because there's not enough on the beef to make my vegetable soup. I have 5 quarts promised for the first Sunday in March so that's what I'm aiming for. Also some to eat while it's cooking. It gets tempting!
Now I'm on my way to the haystack. No Cooper today and no Cooper tomorrow! However, Frankie did say she might make a trip over here to give him a bath. She only has a shower where she lives so he gets his baths here. And usually, after his bath, she decides to make a quick trip to WM. I send my list with her and I watch Cooper while she oes. Works out fine for all of us!
I wish you a peaceful night's sleep and a great day tomorrow. Let us know how you spend it. Maybe we'll join you! Might be better than what we have planned for ourselves. Nighty night!
on our local news this morning:
A man was found unconscious on the street in town. He is in serious condition, suffering from hypothermia.
No identity on him. Maybe he lives alone, fell down and could not get up? With the cold, not many people are
around.
It is unusually cold and humid this week. Where is sunny Israel??? Bundled up and with the heater on, I am still freezing :(
Good morning
We are starting off at 16° and there is snow to deal with. Think Mr Shovel will handle it today. There may be 3" of light snow, will see when I go out.
A day of rest here..I just may get into the sewing room!!
Bubble what is the main source of heating there?
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend! I just finished my breakfast. It'was the egg casserole that I made last night and it was DEEEE-licious! I think I'll try to keep this one in my memory!
I have to be off and getting ready for church pretty soon. Cathy will drop me off and one of my friends at church will bring me home after the coffee hour! I don't know if I told you but my sister (the one who passed away in her 50s) her granddaughter has returned to our church. I didn't even recognize her but she knew who I was. I eager to see her again! It's almost like having Leslie back!
I wish you all a good day. I'm going to be looking for the oncoming snow and trying to avoid it! I hope it doesn't get any of you!
I wish you all a great day! Do what pleases you most! And come by and tell us what that was!
Amy,our a/c are converter: used for cooling in summer and heating in winter. All electric of course, so quite expensive.
Good morning, I slept in until nine, 12 hours, and totally missed meet and greets and need to do catch up. After two days braving the crowds and finishing errands and buying groceries, I came down with the sniffles. I'm not used to being out among crowds anymore. We did warm up over Saturday night and are firmly back in the pluses again.
My major purpose was buying a new coffee pot. I'm fed up with the Mr. Coffee brands and didn't want a Keurig or one with pods. I like to grind my own beans so I bought a Cuisinart 14 cup programmable one. I'm not one who wants homogenized cremes or fancy flavors, simply a good tasting black cup of coffee.
Reading the instructions was enlightening. The things it cautioned about made me worry about the brain capacity of the average consumer. Such as not putting the glass carafe on a burner or in the oven, nor putting water in the machine if the filter basket has been removed. It does have a cleaning program which will be nice.
My sister found a rescued abused dog, a seven month old black labradoodle who was so emaciated he couldn't stand. The shelter had him on hold until he put on ten pounds so he could be adopted. Since she had in the past, been a breeder who showed and raised Dalmatians,(until the 101 Dalmatians craze infuriated her and she quit); she was able to adopt him and knows how to care for him. He's already beginning to gain weight, and looking for affection instead of shying from humans. She named him Flynn.
Instructions are always enlightening. "Do not use while in tub", "Do not unplug by yanking cord. They're often fun to read.
They do make one wonder...
I do wonder but recently saw a comedian show different reactionsm according to age range, to everyday activities like going shopping or cooking a meal - if he is correct those born since 2000 are clueless about so much - they don't know how to change oil since that is the job of the Uber driver - they don't know how to turn on an oven since all their meals are brought in cooked - they don't have a time-frame they typically grocery shop because all their groceries are delivered...
And so with that I began to see these basic instructions on new appliances and even on bottles and cans as more needed than I ever imagined. I keep wondering with all these time saving activities what are they doing with all the time that is being saved...? they don't seem to be producing children, getting married or creating some great piece of art or the next invention - they do, once hired, change, now at least twice a year a new way to access anything and everything on the internet. Maybe they are bored with all the time they saved. Yep, being sarcastic - just don't see a lot of value in this so called progress.
Good Morning Everyfriend! I'm ready and waiting for Cooper's arrival. Frankie usually calls when she leaves home and I know I have at least 5 or 6 minutes until they get here. He's usually ready for breakfast and a walk when he comes. So I'm ready for that too. I had my breakfast and his is ready to go!
Don't know what else we'll be doing today! They just discontinued our Sunday Paper and beefed up the Saturday edition. I'm not sure I like that yet. We shall see.
I was up very early this morning so somewhere in this day, there's a nap waiting for this old lady! Also have the rest of the Christmas things to put away and I'm trying to think of a casserole to make for supper. I have some tuna fish and also some hamburger. I also have a bag of frozen cooked shrimp. Any good ideas out there! Casseroles seem to work best for me since the jaw surgery. It's easier chewing! I think there might be come chicken and pork chops in the freezer. Now let me think! And maybe you all have some ideas!
I guess I better get my dishes done before Frankie calls. I wish you all a great day! Enjoy every minute!
Good morning.. Seems this cold weather is right at home here with a starting themp of 6°.
We are off to the city this morning, a few things need done bought and then high tail it home.
I did start to cut out a new progect and maybe play with it if there is any umph left in me after the trip. Used to be that long drive didn't bother but now...sure takes the starch outta one.
Bubble, that sounds like the heat pump that is being forced upon us to save the planet ,yet the powers that be don't mind jetting around the world or up in the world with their planes and rockets.
Better shake a leg and get moving.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
The snow, that was supposed to be South of us, obviously changed it's mind. The road out front is heavily salted. Does that say something?
Good morning, I've a bit of a head cold this morning, it's hung on since an abrupt Saturday appearance but other than that I'm fine. Meet and greets and domestic chores, thank you Callie for that expression, are done. Farrah's fed and watered and I'm waiting for that first cup of coffee to finish brewing. So far I love my new coffee maker. Three settings for the hot plate as well as three for the strength of coffee, Plus no paper filters or pods to buy.
Here's to everyone having a great weather proofed day!
Well, we got some snow today! It wasn't enough to keep traffic off the road but it did lay on the ground areas. And it laid in my driveway but it didn't keep people out of my driveway. My eyedrops were delivered by the local drug store, a package was delivered and Cathy was in and out of my driveway twice. So I guess it wasn't keeping people home. And, oh yes, Frankie was in and out of my driveway twice to drop off Cooper and then pick him up!
I didn't get a lot done today. the rest of the the inside Christmas stuff is put away and the flags are down. I still have to take the (fake) poinsettias out of the flower box on the porch and put the othere winter fake stuff back in but that won't take long! And I have to put up the winter flags.
I guess I have some things planned for tomorrow! I wish you a peaceful night's sleep and a good day tomorrow. Do whatever suits your fancy! Have fun!
Good morning..
Not getting any warmer here, temp is 9° hope the sun puts some heat to the day. Making a quilt delivery this morning then home to continue purging. Anything that is not wanted or needed out it goes.
We have been so lucky in this area, others have been getting the snow around us and they have been getting a lot!. I don't mind not dancing.
Better get the day started.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning, Amy, et al.
It is 20oF right now. Brrr! It may only get to 29o, but it will be partly sunny. I don't think we got much, if any, of the wind we were supposed to get. The lane out to the main roads, and the parking lot behind the apartment got plowed, but the parking in front 0f the buildings did not. The plow attachment to the pickup apparently busted. They spent some time trying to fix it, but no go. I had cleaned off my car yesterday (most did not) so I would be ready to move the car should they want to plow the parking. I may go out later and shovel around my car with my handy new collapsible snow shovel just to see how well it works. Besides, I need the exercise. I may even venture a trip up to the trash bin. I don't plan on being out for long though.
Otherwise, I can't think of anything interesting to report yet.
Good Morning Everyfriend! Cooper arrived a little before 6 and he's had his breakfast and is waiting for daylight for his walk. Right now it's 18 degrees and it says "feels like 7 degrees. I don't know if I want to go out in THAT. But sometimes I think that's one of the reasons Cooper likes to come here. He likes the walks.
I have a bunch of stuff to do around here today so inside will be be a busy day. I wish you all the best. Make the day your own in every way! And ENJOY it to the hilt!
Weather folks are talking snow in Dallas - some even infer snow here in Houston but I seriously doubt it - although it has snowed 4 times since the turn of this century where as the last century it snowed twice in Houston - Now in Austin probably since it is away from the Gulf Coast.
Just about have all my Christmas taken down - two wreathes without boxes that I'm not sure if a plastic sack will be enough - trying to decide if I should just throw out the batteries from the tiny indoor tree or save them - they would probably be more than half used.
Keep reading how in order to save many today are cooking once a month and freezing a variety of meals - not sure I would want to go through all the work to gather for an entire month but I really need to look at having a weeks worth of meals in the freezer from my own cooking rather than buying frozen meals - Amazon has 10 containers with lids freezer to microwave for $11.something that I'm thinking I should just go ahead and get them committing me to cooking a larger or double chicken and veggies or a larger pot of stew. I think the reason I have not done this before is I've been so focused on unpacking and putting things in their new home - deciding where that new home should be located is more than half the battle. I think I'm about ready to branch out now and just start living... a few shelves and closets need organizing where I just stuffed things to get them out of the way but organizing shelves and closets is a regular task moving in or not...
Haha writing this and I figure things out tra la... wishing y'all a tra la moment today - made me smile and hopefully one of those moments happen so y'all can smile...
I've been having trouble with my computer all day. I don't know if this message will post but I'm going to try. If it does, I'm going to head for the haystack as soon as I finish up some chores and see if it works in the morning. I hope you all have a peaceful night's sleep and a good day tomorrow. And that's all I'm going to type. I hope this works!
HOORAY!!!
Good morning..
Another chilly morning with a temp of -1°. Good day to stay inside and keep warm. Many things to do just need to pick one...
MG, our van needs a washing but until the weather warms up is is not happening.
Jane, hope your computer behaves today.
Patricia, I would really like some warmer weather......not hot just warmer that when you go out your breath doesn't freeze in front of you.
Barb, I am finding when I cook extra then vacuum seal it a meal is quick to make. Just pop it in the micro/airfryer or a pot of hot water to heat up...depends on the food which one is choosen.
Time to get the day started.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning! The computer still seems to be working! I have a casserole in the fridge to bake for supper and Cooper has been fed and had his walk in the icy weather. Right now it's up to 22 degrees with a "feels like temp of 7 degrees. It was even colder when we went for our first walk this morning!
Christy is coming up from Maryland today. She's supposed to text me when she's on the way and she hasn't texted yet. Cathy will be picking me up for a dr. appt. this afternoon and my guess is, that Christy will be on the way after lunch.
AMY, I'll take the warmer temps too. I'm ready for Spring! I have decided tha I do NOT LIKE WINTER!
I guess I better get back to work. Things have to be done whether we feel like doing them or not! I wish you all a good day. Make it your own in every way! Do whatever suits your fancy and if that turns out to be NOTHING, that's fine!
Good idea Amy vacuum sealing a meal - forgot I have a vacuum sealer - just now getting to the point where I am living again rather than existing while unpacking - haven't really cooked during these last 2 years and need to review what I own - when I moved I tossed so much and then replaced some of it when Amazon had their annual sale soon after I moved in and forgot what I purchased... Here I was going to buy plastic containers that went from freezer to microwave and I don't have to do that at all - as you say, just use the vacuum sealer.
Good late morning, its been busy with feeding Farrah, meet and greets and a grocery run all by 11.55.
Amy, our cold spell is over with yesterday and today well into the pluses. No humidity, no snow during the cold and now the weekend into Monday has icy rain in the forecast. Since we've gone from never having icy rain to it becoming common this year, you have to wonder if this is a new normal.
I've never used a vacuum sealer, I use those borosilicate glass dishes with multiple sizes and the snap on lids. They go from freezer to table to fridge safely and easily. I used to meal prep when I was married and then before I retired.
Now, my freezer is stuffed and I need to pull everything out, inventory the contents, eat what I have and go from there. I eat so little even compared with only a few years ago. My mindset is get what you can, when you can because you may not always have a ride, this leads to too much.
Barb, I did my first de-clutter in 2013 when I retired and periodically since then. The only issue I have is there is no shop for those who cannot always afford office or interview clothes. I have several blazers, scarves and skirts that I would love to donate to such a place but the one we had closed long ago.
Since then I've tried to follow the one in and one out rule. My apartment has two walk-in closets and a small storage room at the end of the hall that I tend to stuff and then clear out each subsequent de-clutter. I keep telling myself I don't need anymore but that self doesn't always listen.
OH Patricia we could be twins in everything you said :smitten: - with groceries delivered I've ended up with the same mindset - I might need it and there is no quick run to the store without it costing me, between tip and cost of a shopper $15 and so like you I get too much and after a few days hope against hope I can eat it all and also like you, saying I'm going on a no spend month or half year then I keep finding excuses to shop when I see what would be helpful or would make a great gift and oh it's on sale or it hardly cost anything...
My weakness is books and I've too many - some, yes, I want to refer to as I read other books but all the knitting and outdoor books is really from another life - first need to get these closets, shelves and the office desk organized and then like you a clear out -
I like to have a box or two for the Disabled Veterans - they come by every other month or so. They do send out a postcard saying when they will be on the street and all I have to do is call or email but as long as I'm giving that is the group I feel compelled to support.
That is the group I ended up giving most of my professional clothes to - even if they have a storefront and sell them I feel they are getting the profit and someone is wearing really nice things that many probably have no clue there original value -
Once I got past hanging onto things because of their value or some because how much or long I had to save to make some of those purchases - it got easier - the other that helped is being aware after I die my stuff will be either donated or trashed and so I might as well be the one to decide where to donate - None of what I have will have meaning - we lived at a different time when craftsmanship was even evident in a purchased blouse much less slips that no one wears any longer. I also notice they no longer business appropriate dress as we did as recently as 10 years ago - I think Covid changed a lot of that. I'm just hoping my good Geiger skirts and short jackets did not end up in a garbage pile in Africa or Indonesia. If so, I guess since we disintegrate after our life is lived then so too will many of our things. Talk about coming to terms with our life, Blowing in the Wind
Good morning..
We didn't get the snow yesterday and there is no snow in the forcast....just cold weather.
Need to make some inquiries as two more requests came in for quilts, one is fine but the direrctions for the other are not.
Barb,my vacuum ssealer saves a lot,no freezer burnt meats and a meal ready in minutes.
Patricia, I buy when sales are on but like you need to pull apart the freezer to see just what all is there.
Jane, I am with you on wanting Spring, I love Spring a new birth on everything.......but the bugs aka sketters and blackflies can stay away.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Some years back I saw something about what happens to our throw-away/donated clothing when it gets sent to Africa. Some of it is picked up and resold in the street markets, but a lot do go to the dump. The pictures that have stuck with me are of resourceful women and children sifting through the piles for colorful pieces were then cut into strips and patches, then sewn into colorful skirts, shifts and what-not.
In my pile of crafting books and articles (not all made it to the apartment, however) I had instructions for cutting down and making interesting things from worn clothing. From rag rugs, and quilts, to patchwork items like vests, to purses and cup holders made from jeans.
Good morning, Amy, et.al.
I was going to say Good "Morning" but I'm changing that to Good Afternoon! My visit to the chiropractor this morning was very successfu! She took care of me and then she and my daughter Christy had a great visit. Christy used to work for her and they've been friends both bofore and after that time.
Now I'm going to make this one a shorty because Christy is still here and she's leaving tomorrow. I want to visit as much as possible before she leaves! I wish you all a great rest of the day. Do whatever suits your fancy!
Good late morning at 11:15. I've been busy with meet and greets, feeding Farrah and myself, making needed calls and guzzling black coffee. My cold seems to be on the mend but several symptoms are doggedly hanging on.
Barb, the majority of my working life was unfortunately spent in hotel and retail middle management which I don't recommend as a career path. I usually work late afternoon into evening or all nighters which is still an influence on me.
You mention books, I have hardbacks in both cooking/recipes and home organization and on my Kindle for escapism.
Which is important, I'm on my fourth Kindle and Amazon has taken to sending me, Christmas cards... :-\
I've taken seriously the one in and one out rule and no more clothes! My gullibility is home organization and de cluttering and I've come to the point of being full with that as well. I see something bright and shiny and my heat speeds up and my head starts shaking no and my stomach doesn't know whether to be good, going with the brain or appeasing those heart strings.
MG, you and my mother would have been soulmates per fabric ideas!
Amy, I wish I had your energy and commitment. Even if I write a weekly or daily list on the fly, it may take the entire week to finish instead of the day or two I imagine. That freezer is still waiting and hopefully is first on tomorrow's agenda. I'm wishing both of us luck!
I had to come by and see what you were all up to but I'm heading off to bed when I finish here. Christy is watching a movie on TV and I don't have any idea what it's about. I've already fallen asleep twice in about a half hour. And Cooper will be here a bit before 6 tomorrow so I'll have to be up and attem and ready for him!
Frankie was over this afternoon to give him a bath and she spent some time visiting with her mom! That was a nice time!
I'm ready to throw in the towel and konk out for the night. I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a great day tomorrow! Make the day your own in every way and let us know how you did that. We might copy you!
Fell asleep on the sofa again watching TV and now can't get to bed - turned to news which is full of the California Fires and now they have people setting more fires on purpose as they ransack empty houses some of which are all ready on fire - this is surreal as we see the worst of man's behavior running rampant - reminded me of stories vaguely remember from the Bible where Israel was engulfed in flames -
I cannot imagine how this entire area of California completely destroyed is going to affect all of us - certainly the movie industry will take a further hit but with so many average middle class families now homeless and their home insurance only pulled a couple of weeks ago - one thing the wealthy but the news is not speaking to the middle class whose home was passed down in the family purchased back when homes were still affordable in California. But what is really base is looting from people who have already suffered - I can't believe I'm witnessing all this on top of hearing from my daughter again earlier this evening as she continues to share the devastation to families in her area of North Carolina.
I m trying to focus on my little area of the world where my life is centered which is all I can actually affect - it is difficult - the TV is full of one horror after the other, from weather, to wars, to unbelievable criminal behavior from those who we expected better, random murders and now these gut wrenching disasters. I'm finding it difficult to ignore all this with lively music or reading or watching a riveting or cozy movie. I guess all I can do is pray - that is it, yes, I just want to feel better but then all the wounded people will not feel better for a long time.
One thing I realize people will take advantage of whatever they can for their own ends and some will do it without thought for those they affect or for the laws that help control and foster reasonable behavior.
Well one more day of this cold front and then a warm up - maybe that is all I need is a change in the weather :)
Good morning..
Starting off at - 2° , with talk of snow later this evening. Busy day ahead pick up meds then home to take the garbage away.Need to figure out something for supper tonight.
Watched the news and saw the fires, such devistation and I wonder how anyone comes back from all this. Those that pillage the empty homes should be dealt with harshly..not just a slap on the wrist.
Jane, enjoy your time with Christy!
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Too much sad news. Barb, We'll keep the Movie business going for you. My Home Town is now calling itself "Hollywood On The Hudson". Currently a couple of Studios are building facilities here. Some movie and TV stuff already done. The bad part is that they are grabbing old, beautiful, parts of the City and putting up massive concrete structures. Wait till everyone realizes we have a problem providing water and sewer services to cover the new structures.
I have my own feelings about looters of those burned out homes - but feel better not posting them.
We're starting out at 20° and sunny bright.
Good Morning Everyfriend! It's still dark out there but Cooper will be along in about a half hour. I have my breakfast in front of me and I hope I have it eaten by the time he shows up.
Christy has gone home. She's supposed to have a class on beekeeping today and I wonder how that will go! It's also supposed to be snowing where she lives in Maryland! Then she'll be back to take me to her house and a also for a short visit with my 91 year old sister who lives not too far from her. I don't get to see my sister much any more so it will be a nice visit all around!
Today I'll be finishing the laundry and getting my packing started. I'll also be looking after Cooper. I wish you all a great day. Make it your own in every way! I also am worrying over the bad weather that has hit parts of the country. Not much I can do about it but worry. I do hope things improve! People sometimes don't help they hinder but we can always hope!
Try to enjoy your day! It's important to you!
Good morning..
We has rain last night then it turned into snow. I may just leave what little fell so we have something to walk on other than ice. Looking after Callie cat today, trying to get her to eat is a full time job. She may eat salmon or sardines one day but not the next.
Laundry day and making a pot of soup and any other chore I may have to do.
Patricia, FWIW I didn't get the freezer cleaned out.....procrastination?
Jane, you have a busy time ahead of you.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
We'rre starting off with about an inch of white out there - unexpected.I think it has stopped so I will wish for some solar snow removal.
Rick, our snow was 3+ and the dance is done. Thankfully it was easy to move...everything is done out front out back and me! :2funny:
Good late morning, while my cold is disappearing, so is my energy. I did get a few things done, even, sorry, Amy, my freezer. I went to all the people who keep bringing me stuff and gave it all to them. I made sure to get out of there fast. A sort of pass and go, hit and run routine.
Our cold spell left last week. We've been in the twenties most of the week, today is thirty three presently and Sunday's high is to be 45. Tuesday and Wednesday will be snow days according to the forecast. We had our icy rain in the latter part of last week.
Meet and greets went well enough, everyone has been under the weather and growly with it. Farrah has been happy this week now that her treats are back. So far she accepts that if she doesn't finish her tablespoon of wet food, she gets no treats. Her cup of dry food takes her four or five days to get thru.
The vet says older cats and dogs aren't as active similar to older people so they simply don't eat as much and it takes patience to get them to eat what they should. I understand how she feels and don't eat as I used to either.
Today is packages day and I'm accepting a meals on Wheels for one neighbor and a food box for another. These are two of the group that received some of yesterdays shock and go food deliveries of my own. I have two Amazon deliveries of my own coming today or Monday, some books and a new type of cat treat. Then later next week back downtown for returns and some other errands.
Jane, you're so busy with Cooper, walks, and friends and family, I envy you.
Amy, procrastination and I are old friends. I used to have a daily cleaning schedule and now if it's done once a week I'm happy. My morning routine is enough most days.
Rick and any others stopping by, I hope you have a great day as you like it.
Where has the time gone - here it is after 1:30 in the afternoon already - appears we may be one of the few areas in this state that did NOT get even a sprinkle of snow - today is not as cold as the last few days and where there is no spike it is the start of the warmup.
Since it is much more humid here than living all those years in Austin I did not follow my usual during a cold spell of keeping a pot of water cooking on the stove with cloves and a cinnamon stick - with all the heat I decided to do it yesterday all day and I think it was a good thing - when the furnace caught up and stopped for a bit the moisture seemed to hold the warm air a bit longer plus my sinuses were not plugged up - may do it again this evening as it gets colder.
Here y'all are cleaning out freezers which is a nudge for me - not my freezer but my frig - what I really need to do is make a large pot of whatever soup.
First I really need to write a couple of letters that are long overdue - one to my cousin who is a year younger and now in a nursing home - not happy - none of her 6 kids have a life that they could take her in and she recently had a serious heart attack followed by a stroke so that she needs care - She misses all her 'things' and in order to swing the cost they had to empty her home in a week and sell it so the speed of the change I think is more than likely a big contributor to her feeling abandoned. And then I owe a letter to my old neighbor in Austin - we miss each other and she updates me on the construction of where my house was - they took it down to the slab and are building a 2 story in its place that took them forever to start - they may have finished in time for the holidays but I don't know till we talk.
Strange feeling learning the house you lived in for 55 years no longer even exists - We had it built and so we were the only family that lived in the house - a couple of houses from my youth no longer exist - strange to realize only our memory keeps things alive
With all the cold I brought in my Christmas Cactus which surprise surprise is still blooming up a storm and then, they were getting rid of Cyclamens before Christmas, selling them for would you believe $1.41 - I thought at that price even if it only lasts a week or two - well I fed it a spoon of Epsom salts and a spoon of sugar which allows a plant to absorb nourishment from the soil it is planted in and where there were a couple of buds not only have they bloomed but it has put out more and more buds - I've never been good with indoor plants and this is my daily surprise blooming up a storm in my kitchen.
Sounds like everyone is doing their thing - tra la... have a good one...
Well, I'm off to the haystack! Everything is done for today except the last eyedrops. My timer on my phone is set and as soon as it goes off and I can do the eyedrops, I'll be in the haystack!
I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a great tomorrow. Cooper will be here a bit before six so our day will be off to an early start. I'll be in to greet you whenever the time allows!
[/b]Good Morning Everyfriend!
Good morning..
Starting off a little warmer at 17° and no new snow to deal with.
I didn't get that pot of soup on the roll ,so today it is! Not sure if it will be beef barley or meatball bean soup. Oh these culinary decisions!
Cutting up more fabric this afternoon and then just coasting the day in.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
We had broccoli cheese soup delivered from Panera last night for a
warm supper on a very cold evening. So good!
Winter has come to the South. So cold and supposed to be this way for the next several days. Warm house, furry throw, hot tea and soup...these are a few of my favorite things. :dancingdog:
Special Weather Statement issued January 12 at 1:56AM AKST by NWS Fairbanks AK
A strong chinook will bring strong winds and very warm air across the Alaska Range today. Some of these winds are expected to make it to the Fairbanks area with gusts of 30 to 40 mph being possible Sunday and again on Monday as winds go from southeast to southwest. This pattern will bring unseasonably warm to near record temperatures from Fairbanks to Delta Junction today.
Expected high temperatures in the valley are expected to be up near the low 40 degree range with the Fairbanks Hills possibly as high as the mid to upper 40s. Places near the Alaska Range such as Delta Junction will also push into the mid to upper 40 degree range.
For reference, the daily record maximum temperature for Fairbanks today is 39 degrees.
Strong winds could cause tree limbs to fall along with localized power outages around the Fairbanks area since there remains some limited snow on trees. Road conditions could be impacted with temperatures above freezing today, and then refreezing overnight Sunday.

Plus 42 presently with an expected low of plus 27.
Well, I got a lot done today and I'm tired all the way up the gazoo and all the way down past my toes! Cooper is spending the night and he's already in bed and he's told me twice already that it's time to hit the haystack. I think I'll take his advice! I see you all in the morning! I don't have to set the alarm so I'm just taking my chances! We shall see! Good night Everyfriend. Sleep well and wake refreshed!
Sorry to read about the cold temperatures many of you are having. It is bad when you have the freezing temperatures and do not get any moisture with it.
Sadly, I heard on the news that the LA area had not had any moisture in 8 months....that is frightening. It is extremely dry here in Arizona as well and they are warning people to be prepared for fire happening here like the ones in CA😩
Our family in the south sure are not enjoying the cold weather and snow.
We are enjoying our time here. Saturday we attended our 6 year old grandson's basketballl. I did not expect it to be nearly as fun to watch as it was‼️
I can't seem to keep my eyes open so I will say goodnight‼️
ENJOY a good week EVERYFRIEND.
Good Morning Everyfriend! DENVER, how nice to come in and see a post from you. I for one, miss you when you don't stop by! You must really be enjoying being around your family members!
When I finish my coffee, I'll be heading back to the bedroom to get dressed, make the bed and get ready to take Cooper for a walk as soon as it's light enough! I'm not in favor of all this darkness!
I wish you all a great day! Make it your own in every way!
Good snowy morning..
Woke to more snow on the ground and more coming down! Mr SB and I will have a dance later on. Yesterday I topped up the fuel on MR SB , checked oil and filled washer fluid on vehicle so all is set to go. Light fluff snow that is easy to move.
Jenny, I bet there were lots of giggles watching the boys play.!
Jane, is it snowing your way?
Patricia, with the warmer temps will you get flooding in the areas?
Better get my dancing clothes on.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
[/b]So far, no more snow in my area! Please do not send it here!
I'm having my lunch and the taking Cooper for another walk. Lately, I have to coax him to come out in the cold with me! I think he dislikes it as much as I do. But then, both of us are getting older!
Guess I better get moving! I just took some time out and had a nap with him. This getting up at 5 a.m. is for the birds! In fact, even the birds don't get up in the dark these days! Enjoy the rest of your day Everyfriend! I hope it's warmer where some of you hang out!
Good morning..
More snow fell during the nigt ,may just have to clean off the garage apron and leave the rest. Will see just how bad it is when I go out.
Domestic duties (ty Callie) to do after coming back from town.
Jane,I hope you didn't get the snow.I must admit the trees are so pretty dressed ni white lace. I would have liked to stay up and enjoyed the look with the full moon shining upon them.
Better get this day started.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Does it look like this, Amy?
Phyllis, not quite as pretty as your photo but it is getting there.
Snowing again!!
hello
Hi Don
Are you getting this snow to the south of us?
Nice to see you drop around more often.
Hi Don, sorry I missed you today.
What a pleasure to drop in and see Don! Come back and see us again! We miss you!
Today was supposed to be a day without Cooper but I had a text from Frankie asking if it would be possible for him to spend the night with me. She dropped him off around 2:30 and will pick him up after work tomorrow. I think she might be seeing a guy but she doesn't tell us about it unless it takes off!
We're going to hit the hay a bit early tonight. We're both tired! I think I might have over done things today and I don't know what Coopers excuse is! I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.
Good morning..
Back to chill weather 9° at the moment. I cleaned up the snow last evening I would say another 3 inches came during the day. We are to see sun today according to the weathergirl.
Lots to play catch up on today in the house and make some pastry for tarts later.
Jane, Cooper was just trying to keep up with you!! That is why he is also tired.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend! We've had our morning walk and I think I was moved from Pennsylvania to the Arctic overnight. It's 13 degrees out there with a "feels like" temp of 2 degrees. W didn't wast any time! Cooper did what he did and headed for home!
I hope you all have a great day! Do what suits you best and let us know what that was! We're the nosy bunch in here!
Good morning everyone, our warmth has fled along with the Chinook winds. Unfortunately, the winds blew the clouds away and temperatures plummeted to minus two.
I've nothing really shouting at me today, coffee's made, morning chores finished and meet and greets went well and Farrah's fed and had her treats.
So, I'm off to see how things are going on the internet.
Greetings to Seniors and friends and may this year be a happy one for all. 2025. I see names I remember from Days gone by but not able to always get in here. Have had more than more share of life as had my 102 birthday last year. Shocked to read the NEWS from
USA, but remember well my time spent in your country. Must look for the news today. Junee
Hellow Everyfriend! And a very SPECIAL Hello to JUNEE! It was nice to look in and see you there! And HAPPY 102! That's amazing!
I'm on the way to the haystack because Cooper will be arriving a bit before 6 a.m. tomorrow! Morning starts early with him around! Today was a busy day and tomorrow will be busy too! We don't stay out on our walks very long and if he asks to go out in the yard, he never stays long. It's just plain TOO cold!
I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy day tomorrow. Stop by and tell us how you spent the day! We need ideas!
Overcast foggy all day - getting ready I'm thinking for this next norther although not coming till Sunday - well the look of the day fit me perfectly - had some precooked chicken legs included in my grocery delivery yesterday that I ate last night and oh oh oh - I have never - in my entire life - experienced Montezuma's revenge as I have today - best part of valor was to simply throw out the pants I was wearing with the undies - what I thought would be convenient turned into anything butt...
Really don't relish the idea of going to bed this early - its just after 6:30 however, I'm afraid if I sit on the sofa and watch TV I'll fall asleep and get up dizzy making the journey into bed a nightmare. I may break down yet and have the TV in my dining area installed in my bedroom after all...
Well tomorrow is another day and at least I have my home without a fire a mile down the road ready to take it all away... and I had a great chat with my daughter last night - and I've done enough reading and asking questions that not only do I understand now what happened to my furnace but I'm close to having a solution and so onward... wishing everyone a good night...
I am also going to hit the hay tomorrow could start out dancing.
Been a long day, some accomplishments and some mudane chores done.
:hb2: :hb3: Happy 102 birthday Junee :hb2: :hb3:
Let the pup out one more time.
Have a goodnight.
Junee, I hope your birthday was a happy one and I wish everyone a happier day tomorrow!
Missed your post Junee - 102 wow and you did that - amazing - have to assume you are housebound - hope you have a good size window to see the sky and all that is under it... Reading your post not sure if you are saying you had a recent Birthday or if at your Birthday last year you celebrated 102 but either way Blessings and Hope it was a wonderful Day.
Good morning...
Well.shhh..no snow to deal with yet.,,temp is 16° Do you think the few flakes that we got overnight are it? Gosh, I hope so but we do know it is coming.
Picking up meds and a few other stops this morning then home to bake.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Morning all! It is a bit nippy out this morning at 16oF and mostly cloudy. We were scheduled for 1 or 2 inches of snow today, but that forecast seems have to disappeared.
Today we are scheduled to get our fire extinguishers checked. Management is asking that we set the things outside so they don't have to come in. Now I have to figure out how to get it down off the closet wall. There is no light in the closet and the extinguisher is set a little high. There really needs to be a light in there. I will need my flashlight to read the small how to instructions of the thing. If the thing is a heavy as it looks, I expect I can get it off, but not sure I can hold it up to reattach it.
Oscar is having his ups and downs with eating. His newest food is Royal Canin's Renal Care/Early Stages canned food. It is a combo of pork, chicken and chicken livers. He loved it up to the 11th can. Then he didn't. He is making me frantic. Just when I thought he was starting to feel a little less bony.
Oh Gosh!!!! What a spectacular sunrise cloud show, all in brilliant red-orange and mauve.
I've been having some trouble the last several days logging in here. Login hangs up or tells me I am not authorized. ???
Good Morning Everyfriend!
I remember one of you saying that you had recently moved to the Mechanicsburp, PA area. I'll be there sometime during the next couple of weeks for a visit with my sister. If I knew where you were, and who you are, maybe we could meet face to face. You could send me an email if your interested!
I got some delicious baked goods in the mail this week and I just had one and my mouth is watering for another one!
I guess I better get busy. Cooper and I just had a freezing walk. He doesn't seem to mind it but I can't wait to get back homewhen the temp is 18 degrees and feels like 13!
I wish you all a great day! Make it your own in every way! And share with us how you did that. We're nosy!
Good morning everyone, I hope everyone is braced for the big chill hitting Canada and the US over the weekend and into next week.
Coffee's on, Farrah's fed, meets and greets are done and so are morning chores. Now to see what everyone else has been up to.
Using this lull in the weather to take my hanging plants out of the garage into the driveway for some fresh air and sunlight and also after purchasing this mop for wood floors a year ago finally took time to figure out how and where to pour waxing fluid and then did my bedroom and the hall floor.
My son called, he and Sally have Covid - they will probably be miserable for two weeks if this strain of Covid is anything like 2022 or was it 2023 - I've been tracking the last few years based on Covid and my last long trip in 2019 - not leaving my house now has its advantages - no exposure to Covid even if ordering cooked chicken from the grocery store was a disaster.
Tip: Don't know if I've shared this here or not but this is a boon - Amazon sells these pads for dogs - Nobleza Self Warming Pet Pad, Super Soft Plush - the idea of it being self warming hmm I thought would be great to have for myself - I don't have a pet dog or cat - and I was right - purchased the small one to sit on while watching TV - fabulous -
And then I purchased another larger one to go across the top of my bed pillows and cover my head and forehead - perfect - no more dry eye and no more morning sinus or headache - stopped the wind better than my using a throw or an old flannel shirt and and and each night I take the one from the sofa and put it under the quilt at the foot of my bed so my feet now stay cozy and warm -
Between my warm feet and warm and protected head I am getting the best sleep ever - I'm realizing it throws back the heat from our body so it is not too hot or too cold it is just right because it is our own individual temperature.
the large one is 21.99 with a 25% coupon making it $16.49 and the 24X18 is 14.99 again with the 25% coupon making it $11.25 - better than any throw and the soft side is every bit as soft as any of the newer throws that as pretty as they are they are no comparison to the warmth from one of these Pet pads.
A good Thursday afternoon to EVERYFRIEND.
PHYLLIS, the picture of the snow scene you shared is beautiful. It certainly looks peaceful and the kind I love to see......
So good to see you popping in DON. I hope you are doing well and will come in more often to tell us what and how you are doing. You are missed.
JUNNEE, wonderful to see your post. I think I remember you having your 102nd Birthday, but at a special age like you are you deserve to hear HAPPY BIRTHDAY WISHES as much as anyone can give.
I hope you are doing well and enjoying yourself everyday.
AMY, you said, "Well.shhh..no snow to deal with yet"..... of course there wasn't because you told me to come get MY snow and I did‼️‼️‼️😂😂
PATRICIA, from what I am hearing about that cold blast that you are sharing with Canada and the US main land it is a doozy‼️ We are even feeling its rage down here in Arizona. Denver is REALLY feeling it. Glad I am not there🤣
MARS, sorry to read Oscar is still continuing to have eating issues. So worry-sum for you. Not good that the fire extinguisher is that difficult to get down.... Hope you can get management to lower it for you. Don't hurt yourself getting it down... tell them to come in and get it down for you😡
JANE, I do not remember reading about any one mentioning that they were moving to Mechanicsburp, PA. Hope whom ever told you that you hear from the and can make a meet up happen. Happy to read you are going to visit your sister .
BARB, the dog pad information you have shared is worth checking out. Thank you. Sorry for your son and dil having Covid. Most folks these days say it isn't nearly as bad as it used to be however this noro-virus that is going around is quite bad. Hope they feel better soon.
Time to start some dinner. Have a good evening ‼️
Good morning..
Some snow fell overnight but I don't think it is enough to do a dance other than clean off the apron of the garage. No snow or sun today but snow on Sat..win some lose some.
Work around home after going into town to pay an oil bill.. I do miss the wood heat but oil is so easy to deal with!
Jane, I am so ready for the warmer weather. Each year I feel the cold more and more.
Jenny, thank you for picking up your snow , get ready for more on Sat, you may also have that!
MG, neighbour is also going through a fussy eating cat..Callie loved the sardines one day, then onto a tuna pate not sure what she is eating now.
Barb, covid is making its rounds again/still. Now RSV is making its rounds....no let up at all.
Patricia,I saw on the news we are going into a deep freeze...staying in and staying warm comes to mind.
Better get the day started.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend! I'm in here this morning to disconect my computer and pack it up to take with me to daughter, Christy's house. She and Cathy planned this when Cathy was making plans to visit with her new grandson in Texas. She didn't want to have to wonder if I was OK so Christy is taking over. Isn't it great how they worry about me!
When I'm off here, today I probably won't be back for a couple days. Don't worry about me. I'm in good hands. I'll let you know when I'm back! Make all your days great ones. I sure did enjoy the readings today. And I'm going to make notes about the doggy cushions! Thanks for sharing that. I'll see you when I see you!
Good morning, minus six here and we're on a warm up, heading back into the pluses again. All my morning routines are done and coffee's on so I'll head back into the Internet to see what's gone on while I was elsewhere.
Has anyone here subscribed to the magazine Growing Bolder and if so what do you think - worth it or not...
I looked it up and feel it's focus is on a very limited type.

Good morning..
Temp is starting off at 27°, so far no snow!! Laundry is on the to do list but we shall see how the day goes.
Jane, safe traveling today.
Patricia, the temp is to take a nose dive this coming week.Getting one day closer to Spring each day.
Enjoy your day and stay safe
Good Mornind Everyfriend! I'm here and thinking of all of you! I hope this goes through we shallsee!
Good morning, we're back into the pluses until Monday, the 27th, so that will be nice. The graders and snow trucks had taken all the snow and we never had new or any real accumulation in the minuses other than lots of icy rain and slick passages. A bit of ice on Sunday with some snow midweek. Anymore, each new snow brings some ice along with it.
Meet and greets, morning routine and coffee's all done and I'm planning to set up some new routines and some habit trackers. My new year's "intention" other than a "resolution", is to set up a schedule that I actually follow rather than just plan sometime in the near future after noting a need. I'm hearing a lot about habit stacking where you build new habits by adding them to something you already do.
I already have basic routines I've followed for years so know doing little things habitually adds up. And that's what I want to do instead of simply noticing something needs doing and taking two or three days to actually do it. I want to do several little things so I don't end up needing to do a big thing.
"We are the opening verse of the opening page of the chapter of endless possibilities."

Is everyone prepared?
https://www.cnn.com/2025/01/15/weather/arctic-siberian-cold-outbreak-forecast-climate/index.html
Well I'm thrilled. The weather people increased our snowfall from 1-3" to 4-6". I guess that means I will have to move my car out of the parking lot so they can plow. Maybe I should make an attempt to turn my car around to face outward so I don't have to try to back out.
Jane, I sent up a message via the messaging system here. I hope you got it.
It is TOO QUIET in here.....is everyone doing OK?
I am thankful to be in Arizona where it is cool vs freezing big time at home🥶🥶
Keep the home 🔥's burning.....stay warm EVERYFRIEND ‼️
Noise, noise, noise. Is that better?
Getting ready for a cold spell here, and some threatened snow.
Good Morning...
Geemogotchee day as Joan would say.....temp is 1 ( my computer is not letting me type the degree sign) and not going to travel much higher. A day of rest here managed to get laundry done yesterday and our supper was good. Speedy spud, ribs ,corn with cherry cheesecake for dessert..will see what I can come up with today.
I put a wood fire on last night. Oil is convenient but wood is warmer and cosy, there just may be another fire going today also!
Once Jane gets her computer up and running she will be in to say hello.
Jenny, we didn't get the snow that was talked about but we sure are in the cold here.
Patricia, that polar vortex can go away! Hokey teddy bear she is cold out, Jesse wasn't out long this morning and I noticed the snow crunched under his feet!! Pity any one or animal left outside in these next few days.
Enjoy your day and stay safe..
good morning! Things are not easy around here! They are working on a new kitchen send all the kitchen stuff is everywhere else. Christy seems to be working well wit it and she doesn't seem bothered!!
I just sit and watch or take the dogs out or make dinner or .... Whatever. Right now it's snowing and we're supposed to get several inches. We shall see.
I wish you all a good day. Make it your own in every way.
Good late morning, 21 presently on our way to a high of 23. A little sleet and freezing rain this morning and thankfully cloudy to hold whatever heat we have from going away. Same forecast listed through Saturday, the 25th.
Jane, you're lucky to have a close in heart and in distance family. While my sister and I talk almost daily, my niece who is 35, I haven't seen or heard from since she was four. My older niece and nephews are the same if not in age. Surprisingly, I'm more in contact with my maternal male cousins than my paternal side with I haven't heard from in many, many years. To be fair they were all much older than me.
Amy, your past dinner sounded great, stay inside and stay warm, I don't think this weather is going to be over soon.
Poor Jesse, having to do his business outdoors. Farrah has been very moody today, following me from room to room and meowing to let me know she's bored. I wish she was still an age to play, and she hates being picked up or held. All she want is a good rubdown and her head knuckled every five minutes.
I hope Rick and everyone else who posts or checks in today is staying warm and cozy!
Farrah's been fed, meet and greets went well and my second pot of coffee just finished so, I'll leave you here to see if anything else interesting is going on in the Internet.
Checking in from just North of NYC. Snow started at around 200pm. We're to stay below freezing for a week.
Pat - When we had a cat (MAX) he never liked to be picked up or held. But he would always lay either close to my leg (touching it), or in between them if I laid down on the sofa. My guess is he always wanted to be in control. I miss MAX.
Oh sorry Rummel... yes, missing the antics of a pet is hard...
Wow Jane that was super of you to get your computer up and running so quickly - wonderful...
Patricia I guess you are closer to Siberia than any of us... amazes me how you do it in such cold... And you also Amy living way up North is Canada - kudos to both of you.
The real cold started here during the night and I'm dealing with a wonky heating system that they were supposed to show up late yesterday and did not - it has already tripped one of the 220 breakers and so no dryer - hate this not living long enough in this house to learn all its quirks - can't call on Paul since he and Sally have Covid and so I'm learning as fast as I can but the anxiety as to what is next and how to do things like turn on a breaker without sizzling myself is wearing me out... In between I've the TV on and tonight I'll be watching the next phase of James' return from the Air Force on All Creatures Great and Small followed by Vienna Blood.
Thank goodness still have left some Butternut Squash soup - looks like tomorrow will have to include making a pot of soup - think I've got in my freezer and frig enough to do a chicken carrots and potatoes with of course onion and celery to start. Even have some chicken stock.
Stay warm everyone - as Denver said, keep the home-fires burning, looks like a long week keeping the house warm and dealing with ice and snow out of doors.
Our family has checked in from all over the US today and it is unanimous the temperature are freezing‼️🥶🥶🥶🥶
Hopefully you all were able to keep nice and toasty today. Feeling sorry for all the pets, and their masters that have to go out doors to take care of their business ‼️🥶
Enjoy your evening EVERYFRIEND and keep warm.
Good chilly morning..
Tis a tad cold out there with a temp of -18°F..Sure hope this polar vortex gets some speed on and moves out!
Work around home after paying some bills in town, may even squeeze in some sewing time.
Patricia, we have a fenced in yard for Jesse and I do go out with him at times, this cold weather he is going to be solo!
Barb, here we have a choice of weather......you either freeze or fry. My favourite times of the year are Spring and Fall.
Enjoy your day and stay warm and safe!
Not looking forward to going out and cleaning off my car. I expect they will be letting everyone know when we need to move the cars so they can clean the parking area. I haven't seen anyone out yet. The temp is a wonderful 170, and it likely go over 20o. Sun is just brightening the sky now.
Oscar has been refusing almost all the canned and pouched cat food the last three days, but he is eating people food pork and fish as well as nibbling on his dry food. Also, I expect to take some turkey or chicken down out of the freezer. Odd that he refuses to eat canned but loves fresh cooked turkey. Today, I expect to get in another package which includes some new stuff to try on him; I suspect it will be delayed due to the snow storm though.
I have nothing other than some snow clearing on my agenda today, so I think I will do a little picking about to see what I can get rid of or reorganize to better advantage space-wise.
We're starting at 12° today. The snow has stopped but left about 2 or three inches --- on top of some frozen rain. Slippery out there. Hope old man Sol does his job soon.
Another late good morning, it's 9:13 and 20 degrees outside. Farrah's fed, meet and greets are finished and coffee's on. Not much else going on here, I don't really want to do much more than perhaps wander around the computer, perhaps go downtown tomorrow.
Good Morning Everyfriend! My computer died so I'm stuck with trying to communicate with my phone!
We got lots of snow here yesterday and Christy and her hubby spent time digging out vehicles and cleaning sidewalks. I watched!! Now they've made a grip to the hardware store to get some stuff they need for working on the kitchen. It's undergoing a major change!! All that's out there now is the stove and the fridge. We cook and then eat on paper plates at the coffee table. Someone is coming tomorrow to install new cabinets and then someone another time to do counter tops. They said I'll have to come back to see the final fittings. It's going to take a while!
They are back now. I'll see you all later I hope
The culprit for this week and next...
The polar vortex is a large area of low pressure and cold air surrounding both of the Earth's poles, according to the U.S. National Weather Service.
Does climate change have anything to do with the frequent cold?
Generally, there is no place that's safe from climate change and research shows climate change is a big driver of extreme weather.
As for the cause of extreme cold, the jury is still out. Some researchers do believe there is a connection between climate change and the impact to the Arctic and polar vortex activity, but for others this is still an active area of investigation.
What is clear is that many areas of the central and eastern U.S. are experiencing a colder than usual January, Taylor said. These areas have "been kind of stuck in this pattern where we've had periods of colder weather basically since the beginning of the month. And that pattern looks to continue really through the end of the month," Taylor said.
I hope this works as well as it did earlier today. I just stopped by to say Good Night and to wish you all a peaceful night's sleep. Hopefully I'll be able to visit tomorrow!!!
Well it happened - there is snow in the Houston area - roads are not covered but everyone's lawn and bottom third of roof tops are covered - so far they are just saying school will start later - we'll see by morning - no one including the city has any snow removal equipment nor shovels and most don't own clothing for winter - for many it will be layers of PJs and a couple of layers of Hoodies over a denim jacket
Good morning...
We are starting out a bit warmer today at -5°. We are off to the city to pick up quilts and do a fast shop at Costco. Too many requests have come in and I don't have enough to cover them.
Barb I can't imagine the look on childrens faces when they see the snow!!
Patrica,that culprit can dissapear!!
Jane, we know what kitchen renos are like and how dusty they can be!!
Better scoot.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Sounds like we're a bit warmer than the rest of you. We're starting at 8° but bright sunny. Hoping our solar snow removal plan will continue to work today.
Morning everyone! It actually made it over 20o yesterday. I didn't check the temps when I got up, but right now it is at 8o. Sun is trying to shine through thin clouds.
Yesterday I managed to clean off my car. Noted that my back doors are frozen shut.
The cats: Oscar is holding his own, but he does not like the cold dry weather, even though he doesn't go out. I have finally discovered that Shan has decided that peeing just outside of the two potty boxes is a great thing to do. The pet matt is in the bathroom needing a second scrub. Boy that that stuff stink. Removing the scene of the crime didn't help, he tried to pee in the same spot this morning. I put him in his box with the pellets, but he jumped right out, then I quick scooped him up and put him in the box with the regular litter. Success, if only short-lived. The new pee pads are down in front of both boxes. They are extremely thin, so I don't know if they will hold up. Under the pee pads is a long piece of cardboard. Originally the pet matt was on top of that, but I am thinking, even though the mat is getting washes, again, it will have some slight residual smell to attract him to outside the box events, so I am not likely to use it again. I may use it as an outdoor mat if I can find something to hold it down from blowing away. Trouble is, it is likely to attract some local cats. Extra cold weather will be around for a few more days, so I am not anxious to cart anybody to the vets just yet.
MarsGal can't the pee pads be put in the washing machine - thank goodness you found some success with the older cat litter.
Rammel by solar snow removal am I correct thinking that means allowing the sun to melt the snow rather than the traditional shovel removal?
Amy do you have some sort of quilting business where there are others in the area who quilt and like a co-op you are the contact person for those wanting to buy these home made quilts? If so Amy what are the prices of the quilts? Do you have a website where they can be seen?
Well, Houston was told to stay home today and probably tomorrow - mostly to keep roads clear for emergency vehicles - no one knows how to drive in snow or on ice and if they do, because they recently moved here, there is always someone from the area that stubbornly gets out and of course crashes causing the driver who may have known how to manage to be wrecked
All schools in this part of the world are closed today and tomorrow. Sun is coming out and so either it will melt before the evening freeze causing icy conditions or the sun won't last long and the predicted snow for today will start up again -
All I'm doing is looking out the window and boiling water for hot tea - just can't settle down to even read much less watch something on TV - did my marathon TV watching yesterday. At lease I'm able to keep the house snug and warm.
Quote from: BarbStAubrey on January 21, 2025, 02:34:43 PMRammel by solar snow removal am I correct thinking that means allowing the sun to melt the snow rather than the traditional shovel removal?
That's it. It's worked well for years - especially on blacktop and dark colored cars.
Barb - Bad driving, even here where people should know better, they don't think to slow down a bit when it gets bad on the roads. There's always someone that has to beat you to wherever.
Hello my friends! We stood in doorways or sat in them today to watch 2 Amish workers install cupboards they got on wall finished and will be back tomorrow to work on another wall. Then they go down the middle and do two ends. Then a lot of them will be getting marble tops. There will also be a new stove and fridge. A long way to go yet!! But it will be gorgeous when done!!
We got a lot of that snow too. And daughter Cathy is in Houston welcoming her new grandson. And they are all suffering the snow. Daughter Cindy in Tulsa OK area is fighting snow too! She said they don't even plow the streets down there!
Time to think about supper. Guess I better get off my chair and help! Have a good rest of the day and a great tomorrow!!
Jane they do not plow because no one owns, much less a city owning snow removal equipment - when there are years between snow falls maintaining snow removal equipment would add up to far out cost the use of the equipment - some southern cities do use dump trucks filled with sand and gravel to spread on overpasses but that is about it.
At least with the phenomenon of snow there is a slowing down so that the few public services operating seem to be less frantic and therefore more caring and friendly - even the personal in the few retail establishments that are open there is more conversation and banter with customers.
What I am really missing is there are no hills here in the Houston area as there are in Austin and with the snow the kids, starting in the middle of the night were out using anything from cardboard, to roasting pans or laundry baskets sliding down hills - I had a huge hill that was the side of the Mesa where I lived in Austin and hearing those kids whooping it up always put a smile on my face as I would go to the windows and watch - not so here, as I said flat, flat, flat and even fewer with clothing to keep warm enough to even go outside and build a snowman. Even I got rid of my lined trench coat and wool sweater.
Ended up taking a long nap this afternoon and still fell asleep in front of the TV this evening - trick now is to actually sleep in bed - here I am already up for not sleeping - hate taking something and so my life may be scattered the next day or so till normal winter returns. Prediction is for rain all next week but at least back to normal winter temps.
The news from around and about. Watched clips of the snow in New Orleans and in Florida. When was the last time snow reached that far down? Just got an email from a friend in North-Central PA whose husband decided to mostly stay under the covers in bed. I take it their almost new furnace is not doing the job. My sister in North Carolina says they are all waiting for the snow to reach them. She hasn't seen snow since she moved there years ago. Meanwhile, the cats and I are hunkered down for the duration. It is 1oF at the moment.
Looks like most shipping is paused the Great Lakes. The most activity is on Lake Erie, and that is not much. Noted three Coast Guard ships out doing their thing at the western end of the lake.
Good morning..
Temp is lazy this morning , it refuses to get up,tis -31° at the moment, MERCY!!
Yesterday went well manged to get all that was needed and come home. Today is is do whatever day as a trip to the city tuckers me the next day.
Barb, I am with a group of ladies that make qults for cancer patients. My supply dwindled and there is a call for 3 if not 4 quilts and I deliver them in this district. My friend did make quilts for sale and she would take them to the farmers market, some of hers went for 1000.00.
Patricia, I think this is your kind of weather , do you mind taking it back? :2funny:
Better get on with the day.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Our snow a few years ago.Not sure if this will work or not??
https://www.seniorsandfriends.org/photos-and-more/photos-old-and-new/new/#new
MG, your sister may have seen snow depending on where in NC she lives. I live in Cary, next to Raleigh, and we got an inch and a half. That is a lot for here and everything is shut down. We just don't have the equipment to deal with it. The snow isn't much but the temps are staying below freezing and that makes driving and walking treacherous.
OUR NEIGHBOR JUST CLEARED OUR DRIVEWAY AND WALKS!! BLESS HIM!!
I feel for everyone shivering in the cold, Amy, I cannot access your link for weather.do.
All the morning routines are done for the day, I've been having trouble sleeping at night, thus sleeping in on the mornings. Presently it is only 12 degrees with rain and snow, mixed outside and very slick outside.
Barb lives in Wilmington, Phyllis. She says they got three or four inches.
Thanks, MG. The storm moved farther to the east so that is why the coast got more snow. Our local news station said Nag's Head got an amazing 8 inches!
Just in case you're snowed in and are looking for something fun to do ---- Take a look at this old S&F page, --- and have some fun. I stumbled on it before and got stuck there for a while.
https://www.seniorsandfriends.org/village-clubhouse~place-for-fun!/'jokes-and-humor'/
Phyllis my daughter lives in Saluda, east of Hendersonville and west of Tryon and my sister lives in Corolla out on the northern outer banks and my cousin lives in New Hill southwest of Raleigh - of all things my daughter in Saluda said they only received about an inch if that - they are on the lee side of the mountains and that may have made the difference - where as my sister said she got 8 inches which is about what you said Nag's Head received.
Amy before your quilting is forgotten - how fabulous that y'all make quilts for Cancer patients - what a precious thing to do and give - and yes, I can well imagine a quilt selling for 1K - are the quilts mostly traditional patterns or are they free style more of an art form?
Good morning
Another chilly day but not like the past few days, temp is 11° and we have had about an inch of snow.
Picked up a few groceries this morning and now laundry is calling..
Patricia, warmer weather here but it also comes with snow.
Jane , how are the renovations coming?
Barb, the quilts are a bit of both.
Time to get my work done/started.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
It's now 12:07 and I'm just checking in. Amy, it's 24 presently, and still simply snow and ice, lots of sleet and freezing rain. Not much going on here with the roads so slick plus a number of colds and flu in the city that I don't want to mess with.
Hope EVERYFRIEND is keeping warm.
AMY, the temps are much too cold in many locations. It is time for this cold front to move on‼️‼️ Unfortunately I can not see your picture of "your snow a few years ago"😩
PATRICIA, it seem that it is warmer in your neck of the woods than most of the mainland.
JANE, what fun to be there watching the remodel job going on. Loved seeing all of the pictures
you shared of Isaac and his family.
B8BBLE, little Lynn is so cute and growing up much too quickly like her big brother. So sweet to see them in the picture with you.
Heading off to bed.....pleasant dreams to all.
Good morning..
Back to chilly temps again - 9°. We did get some snow but not the amount to the south of us received. Tis a catch up day, plus sewing. Will make a lemon cake with lemon filling for dessert for supper tonight.
Patricia, you were warmer than us!!
Better start the day.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good morning, 34 this morning with rain changing back to freezing rain. Every surface out there is slick. We've been warmer than most of Alaska as well, Amy, but don't expect it to last. Our high will be around 37.
The Interior was out of range of the polar vortex that took the cold air with it into Canada and the US from the northern pole. My sister in northern Idaho was also exempted. We haven't had that much snow at all this year and the snow we have is battened down by continuous rain.
Nothing going on here, meet and greets, Farrah care and basic routine is done so off to the Internet I go.
Worn out doing nothing - this is ridiculous here the sun has been out all day and we are actually in the 50s and I'm feeling like a worn out dishrag - Partly I think it is because I've received emails from several in my family who are all cranky and complaining about things like the fact that mail was not delivered the day of the snow storm even though we were told only emergency vehicles were allowed on the roads or this or that was closed because of weather and they could not order to be delivered their usual and my sister's dog did not want to walk on the snow so he did his duty at the bottom of the porch stairs - there was no being reasonable in a reply but I just could not match their level of vitriol over what I consider weather related inconveniences. Ohhh talk about taking the stuffing out of a girl. If I was only a drinker - a glass of something would be perfect just now but I'd end up paying for it tearing up my stomach.
Sun is going down and there is already a drop in temp but I really think I need to hustle up and with my walker at least circle around my driveway and breath in some fresh air - till later - hope y'all are having a good day and that I will soon be able to say the same...
41 degrees right now, surpassed the expected high of 37, but the wind and rain continues with lots of people and cars sliding here and there.
That's warmer than here.
Right now we're warmer than many places because we were to the left of the polar vortex. But we're making up for it with lots and lots of wind and freezing, icy rain.
I posted four soggy photos in Photos, Old & New,
https://www.seniorsandfriends.org/index.php?msg=258701
Time to sy good night Everyfriend! Im not finding it easy to work on this computer but i'llbe going home Sunday and things willreturn to norma; Sleep well! And have a great day tomorrow!
Good morning..
Temp is 1° this morning. no new snow to deal with .
Laundry today and other chores that need done. Made a pots of cream of broccoli soup yesterday so lunch is covered. Breaded pork tenderloin, baked potato and carrots for supper. Have some time to sew!
Jane, good to see you! Returning to normal always feels good.
Patricia, send some warm weather this way please!
Barb , in this cold weather dogs don't even want to stay out.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Today will be the last below freezing day give or take a degree. The next day below 32o isn't scheduled until Thursday. Night temps will still be below freezing. Yesterday, even though the sun was out, the snow was being stubborn about melting. It did more melting the day before than yesterday, which i attribute to the sun not being out much even thought the temperature was up a little more than the day before.
I took my car up to the dealership and got my car a new 12volt battery. It seems to me that the last time I replaced it was not more than five years ago. I forget whether it was the service guy or the tow truck guy who said he was surprised that mine lasted so long (huh?). It seems that the newer batteries only last three or four years these days. The original 12 volt in my hybrid car lasted from when I bought it in 2010 for at least ten years. I did get mildly lectured to drive the car more. Sometimes it sits two weeks or so before I have to take it for a short spin. Not doing the battery any good, not doing the engine fluids any good, not doing the undercarriage any good if I don't. While I was waiting, I checked out the new cars in the showroom. I liked the new basic Corolla. It is just the right size and the in the new, beautiful, Blueprint color. The disadvantage is that it is gas fuel only and, because it is lower to the ground, not as easy to see what is ahead in heavy traffic. I still need to decide whether to buy or lease. Never leased before, but my sister has for years and really likes it. BTW, I researched the cars that were rated a bit better able to resist low mileage driving damage and, Toyotawise, Corolla was one of them, so was a RAV4. So, my hunt for another, smaller car, has begun.
Good morning, the usual snow and ice out there with more freezing rain, thank you, Climate Change. I finally received a good night's sleep, from ten pm to four twenty-four am.
I've yet to do anything other than feed Farrah, my computer had some issues with an update and had to play around with it a bit. Furthermore, I did manage meet and greets and need to get some coffee made and some morning routine tasks finished.
Here's to everyone having a good day
GOOD MORNUING EVERYONE.
I HAVE NOT FORGOTTEN YOU ALL,I CHECK IN TO CHECK ON BEHAVIOR :)
FOR I AM LOOSING MY EYESIGHT MACULAR DEGENERATION.
so UNTIL I GET SOME MAGNIFUING EQUIPMENT I WILL MAKE DO A QUICKIE NOW AND THEN

Mycheal, good to see you. My husband is taking Vitalux that we get at Costco for macular degeration. When he got his eyes tested last fall the optometrist recommended it. Check with your Dr to see if it will help you.
sorry. I just lost a long post. I'll try again later.
Wow finally can see across the street - dense fog - forecast says rain but so far notta - however, cold temps are gone, tra la -
Shoot frustrating Jane - look forward to your posts - you are always full of energy and good things...
Yes, Amy I was trying to tell my sister she was lucky her dog even ventured to the bottom stairs to her porch - she, like my other sister and my daughter and my daughter-in-law were all cranky yesterday making mountains out of molehills and being the oldest I seem to be the one they all feel safe complaining to, wanting an ahh ohh - with all of them in a similar mood it was over load.
Looks like my little driveway walk last evening with the setting sun may be the last of seeing the sun for the next week. Temps go back but rain is showing for each day. We usually see rain starting in February and so it appears to be starting earlier this year.
MarsGal Yes, i went through that where I was not using my vehicle for a couple of weeks at a time and the Battery kept dying then it completely died and had to replace it twice within 8 months - my Son told me when I go out for the mail just start the car and let it idle for a minute or so - don't even have to drive it around the block - just let it idle - since I'm here he has the battery hooked up with an electric cord that I don't understand but I'm no longer driving and so this simply keeps the battery from going dead - keep the car for my daughter when she visits and also, the combo of car insurance and house insurance is less than if I just had house insurance.
Well I need to get the hanging baskets and porch plants out of the garage and see if rain will revive them - didn't do the best job of keeping them watered when I brought them in as protection against the cold. We shall see... I found giving plants a dose of Epsom Salts does wonders.
Ha wanted to say, smile your on Candid Camera - I wonder what happened to that guy - Just looked it up and that show was first on TV would y'all believe in 1948 and then revived in '89 and '90 - Heck in '48 we were still watching TV standing in front of the Hardware store where one was placed in the front window and left on so it even showed the test patterns when there was nothing showing... trying to remember but I think it was '54 when we got our first TV.
Well we can all smile as it appears the worst of the cold is over... :)
im going to try this again. Christy and I just took the doggies for a walk in the cold. It wasn't so bad! In fact, I kind of enjoyed being out there for a bit. And both doggies seemed to enjoy it!
They are still working on the kitchen here and I'm going to have to come back to see the finish. It's going to be bigger and easier to use. My son the appliance dealer (and also Christy's twin) will be bringing appliances to install the middle of next month! I just might see if I can bum a ride down with him! It won't be finished but it will have moved along!
It was nice to read all your messages. And it's always nice to know my friends are there. Have a great rest of the day!!
NEW KITCHEN - Always an exciting event.
Good morning..
Looks like another dance with Mr SB this morning. We had a dance last evening but now more snow to deal with.
Jane ,safe trip home.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good morning, 37, cloudy with icy rain at 5:58 this morning. No new snow here, everything is an icy gleam out there, so another day inside for me. Everyone, stay safe and stay warm.
The science behind the Polar Vortex;
The polar jet stream was positioned over the Gulf Coast states, which was thousands of miles south of its normal location. The polar jet was displaced by the Polar Vortex which is typically in northern Canada. The position of the jet stream over the Gulf helped to activate a stalled front, which also initiated a low pressure center to develop (and its moisture) while all the cold air was being forced south. The result is what is called "overrunning," where the warm air is forced north by low pressure, and because it is lighter (and cold air is heavier/denser), the warm air "overruns" the cold air at the surface.
No ice or snow as y'all are experiencing - We've thick fog and rain all day... dreary but I better get used to it since it will be like this for at least another week and maybe longer.
Patricia thanks for the explanation on the recent weather - I knew hot air was lighter - except in this part of the country where it is heavy with humidity ;) - however, I did not know it could over-ride cold air - the more I think it makes sense since hot air rises in the house which in a sense is like over-riding the cold that stays closer to the floor. Great in summer 8) , horrible in winter :tickedoff:
Better get-in a quick nap now - good TV on PBS Sunday nights... hope everyone is staying warm...
Good morning...
More snow overnight and the temp is 19°F at the moment and windy! I think that snow is a leaveright..leave it right there till the wind goes down, it isn't much maybe 2 inches? Will get a better idea when I go out.
Patricia, warmer weather would be nice here and tht polar vortex can take a hike somewhere else!
Jane, hope your drive home was a good one. Jesse is still in the habit of bringing a stick of wood in each night!! I did fill up the woodbox after snowblowing but there is always room for one more stick.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning! We haven't left for home yet! We're just about to start loading the car now!! Then we'll be on the way! When I get set up at home I'll be back with you all! Take care of yourselves! And have a good day!
Safe drive Jane.
We are experiencing high winds that could cause power outages..oh boy.
Good morning, 32 presently with snow expected this afternoon. Temperatures to drop tomorrow through Saturday but rising again on Sunday. Absolutely nothing to report, other than the usual routine and coffee finished brewing, so with cup shortly in hand, I'll go see what else is brewing in the online world.
Good morning
Looks like a dance is on, maybe 4 inches of snow will know better when out in it. Mr Snow Blower is all gassed up and ready to go,just needs a dance partner.
We are at 4° F at the moment..think my down jacket will get worn while dancing.
Not sure what the day will bring, just hope it is not more snow. :2funny:
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend! I'm home, unpacked, and slept in my own bed last night! My computer is set up as it usually is and Christy is taking me to the bank this morning and then she will be on her way back home!
I loved watching what they were doing with their kitchen and I'm hoping to ride along back down there with son, Phil when he takes their new appliances in mid-Feb. They won't be done but they will have moved along!
I just got back from taking Cooper for his first walk with me since I came home! It was "COLD" out there and I don't care if we don't go out again until the temps rise a bit. But when Frankie dropped him off, he was all ready to head out. It was still dark and I had to make him wait but he followed my every footstep and when I said "Let's go" he was at the door waiting for me! I think he missed our daily walks!
AMY, I hope you have a nice dance with the SB! I think I might prefer a different partner!
PATRICIA, you sure are having a mixture of weather in your area! I don't think I'd like that any more than I like winter in PA!
I wish you all a great day! Make it your own in every way! Do whatever suits your fancy! And don't forget to stop back and share your day with us. We're interested! (Or we're nosy, whatever suits you best)
Good morning, Amy and Jane and whoever follows or looks in!
Morning routine, meet and greets, Farrah fed with fresh water done and my first cup of coffee before me so, I'm checking in to see what S&F and the rest of the internet are up to.
It's zero presently, the low will be minus ten, but the warmth has left us. "Strong Arctic Blast Begins Today...
The prolonged warming event has come to an end as much colder air moves into the Interior. Temperatures will be well below zero for much of the week with minimum temperatures approaching -40 or -50 in the coldest spots by Thursday/Friday. Any wet surfaces have frozen resulting in slick conditions, so travelers should remain extra cautious."
Just a note, our lows for the week will be only minus thirty to minus thirty-six. The mountain passes, surrounding us, will hold the minus forty or minus fifty. And Sunday will bring us slowly back into the pluses.
Good Night, Eveeryfriend! I'm so tired I can't think straight! And tomorrow I'll have Cooper a little before 6 a.m. so Frankie can get to work by 6. Later in the morning a guy will be stopping by to take a look at a flapping board on the end of my house. I'm hoping that he decides that he can fix it! I'm sure I'm getting cold air into the attic area from it! We shall see!
Now I'm going to get ready for bed and hope that I can sleep soundly until 5 a.m. I'll be getting up to get ready to meet Cooper. I wish you all a pleasant night's sleep and a happy day tomorrow!
Good evening, and goodnight - should anyone happen by.
Good morning.
Looks like another dance is out there...think about another 4inchesof snow. The neighbour was in again with his plow and took about 3 swaths again and I just have the sides of the driveway, front deck and outback to the wood pile and area for Jesse to run. Our neighbours are fantastic!! Temp is lazy hasn't hasn't got up past 8° F .
Jane. as long as the dance is a waltz and not a jitterbug or breakdance I am good with it. This light fluffy snow is easy to move not that heavy snow that come out the chute like a slushy.
Patricia, please keep the minus 30 there!! I hope it you need to go out you have a downfilled coat!
Better get my dancing shoes on.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend! I'm waiting for daylight to take Cooper for his first walk of the day! He just came in and gave me that look that said, "Isn't it time for my walk?" I told him that I'm watching for the sun to make it's appearance and I pointed to the window. He left and my guess is that he went back in the living room and is just sitting and waiting.
Later this morning I have a very nice sounding young man coming to take a look at something that I think is a loose, flapping piece of siding on the end of my house. If it's not one thing, it's another! Life goes on!
I wish you all a great day! Make it your own in every way! And don't forget to tell us how you did that1 We're VERY interested!
Good morning everyone. Morning routine, meet and greets, everyone fed, and coffee in hand, so here I am.
Amy, that thirty and forty to fifty below is for the upper mountain passes, not in the valley. We're minus eight presently, but Thursday and Friday's evening lows will be very cold. February will bring us back into the pluses and milder weather.
Well they are here - the heating people - thermostat that was installed just a few days before Christmas has a mind of its own and high heat comes on in the middle of the night and again in the early hours of the morning even though I have it set for off - tried to get them here almost two weeks ago but it became a mixup as the contacted my son who knew nothing about it and cancelled them - for the last few nights I've had 3 hours of sleep each night - needless to say sleep deprived and in that state called - the poor girl on the other end - for the first time in my life I just blew - hung up and finally about 5 minutes later called to apologize and talk reasonably - two guys are here now and fingers crossed they identify and fix the problem
Actually today is my birthday however just getting this heat and AC fixed will be the biggest birthday celebration I can imagine - daughter sent me all sorts of things from a flag to a cup and socks with the Astro's logo - love it... set and ready for the next season. Till later - oh yes, warm, foggy with rain in the forecast.
Quote from: BarbStAubrey on January 29, 2025, 02:30:23 PMhigh heat comes on in the middle of the night and again in the early hours of the morning even though I have it set for off
Is it possible it has AM and PM mixed up?
hmmm a thought - am versus pm - thanks for the Birthday wishes.
I'm half asleep. I fell asleep on the couch so I'm heading for the sack now. Sleep well everyfriend! Wake to a new day and make it your best!
Good morning...
:cheer: :cheer: No dancing this morning!! Instead of snow we have colder temps -11°F.
Picking up a few grocery items this morning then home to make soup. Then a chicken pot pie for dinner tonight.
Jane, already my day is the best, no dancing!!
Barb a belated Happy Birthday to you. :hb3:
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend! I was up (way before) the crack of dawn this morning. Cooper is here and he had his breakfast and his walk! Daily household chores are done and I'm ready to "set a spell" and rest my bones from all the activity.
AMY, I'm glad you don't have to go out and dance! It's COLD here but I can't tell you the temp because my phone is acting crazy and it won't tell me!
I have some stuff planned but cooking isn't one of them. Well, it really is but I'm in no hurry because my daughter's friend stopped by here yesterday on her way home from the farmer's market and dropped off a LOT of fresh made food from there. She wouldn't take a penny for it but she sat and visited for about a half hour! And I had a delicious supper and enough for supper tonight, too! Wasn't that nice of her!
I wish you all a great day! Make it your own in every way! And don't forget to stop by and tell us how you did that! We very curious...or maybe very nosy!
Happy Birthday, Barb.
Sunny, a little cooler but still above freezing and that is fine with me.
Kitchen food disposal quit so had technician out yesterday. We both agreed that my 15 year old unit needs to be replaced. He ordered a new one and will replace it next week. And after that is done I will just wait until the next time something breaks down. <sigh>
Take care, All.
Good morning, minus 16 here but an expected low of minus 33. Similar weather expected on Friday, but temperatures return to the positive on Saturday and more on Sunday.
Barb, happy belated birthday to you, 🎀🎂🎁 I hope it was very nice!
My morning routines are finished, meet and greets went well, and Farrah content with her morning salmon. I even did well on my morning Mahjong Solitaire game, one I highly recommend for those wanting a fast-paced matching game with various levels. It's also good for these older, arthritic hands.
I need to go out for a few items on the first, but, I also have an Amazon order due, so it might be the second before I can go uptown. Otherwise, I've enjoyed my staying home, indoor life.
[/b]Well, my day is coming to an end! I got some cooking, some laundry and some odds and ends done today; And one of daughter Cindy's friends stopped by and dropped off some supper for me. She also asked me if I wanted to go to the grocery store with her tomorrow. I begged off on that. Can't think of anything that I really need and I have to use up some of the stuff in the freezer pretty soon!
II wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a great day tomorrow. We're supposed to get some rain/sleet tomorrow. I sure hope the weather man made a mistake! We shall see! Cooper won't be here until a bit before 7 tomorrow. Frankie has a later day tomorrow! Good Night Everyfriend!
Goodnight anyone. Woaooo - is that an echo I hear?
Good morning..
No new snow and starting temp is 11°. Today the snow will be coming off the bck sunporch, we have a roof rake and that is what will be used.If we get rain on Sunday that will be a heavy weight so off it comes.
Phyllis, I will make your custard up in the IP.....always tastes good and easy to do.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend! I just finished everything I had planned to do before Cooper arrived when Frankie called to say she was on the way to drop him off! When she arrived, she warned me that the wet roads are really icy and that I should be careful when we go for our morning walk! They do seem to care about me! Isn't that a good feeling!
Plans for today are a bit of cooking, some more laundry and some more putting away and loving up Cooper! Thank goodness I don't have to go out and scrape the roof, AMY! You be careful!
I wish you all a great day! Make it your own in every way! And don't forget to stop by and tell us how you did that. We need ideas! (And we're all a bit nosey, too!
A ROOF RAKE. Haven't heard of them in years --- but --- I have one I keep to get my front porch roof cleared a bit. So ice or snow doesn't fall on anyone coming or going from the porch. Haven't needed it in a couple of years.
Good morning, minus thirty-two and mostly clear. Tomorrow, the clouds move back in, and we begin moving back into the pluses. Tonight's low will be minus 23 and tomorrow's high will be five.
Meet and greets went well, most are still with colds and running noses. Farrah's been fed, morning routine finished, and I started a large pot of mixed bean soup after soaking overnight. I have that last bit of Christmas ham which will go nicely with.
Jane, you be careful and safe out there on that ice, although realistically that's come and gone with me being four hours behind.
Amy, Rick, that was one task I always hated, I always ended with snow down my neck and in my boots.
I started a new bag of coffee beans today, which I'm not too sure about. I always drink coffee black, no sugar or sugary creams but this was a Christmas gift of Christmas coffee from North Pole, Alaska, a town that trades heavily on it's name and even has striped poles for streetlights and a forty-two-foot Santa figure on an eight-foot base, weighing 900 pounds. There are even several reindeer in the corral out back.
Anyway, these coffee beans, St. Nickerdoodle; are flavored with "cinnamon, hazelnut, and a hint of vanilla."
It has a slight dark chocolate aftertaste that I don't like, but it was a gift, so I'll drink it. I'm not one who likes sweets or sugary food and drinks, but perhaps the coffee taste will grow on me.
Well, another day has passed! I'll be heading for the haystack as soon as I finish up some last minute chores.
PATRICIA, I'm with you with my coffee. First thing in the morning it has to be COFFEE! I like a little cream in it and nothing else! And that first sip is heavenly!
No Cooper tomorrow! Frankie has the weekend off so I have some plans that I don't usually try to do when he's here. I have some special cooking to do and I won't have someone underfoot while I do it. Also a couple other jobs that he's usually right there with me. I love him dearly and I'm glad I have him but he does like to BE THERE! And he's not quiet about it!
I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow! Don't forget to stop by and let us know you're still around! I, for one, always wonder when you don't post, if you're OK!
I am right behind you once I get some things done Jane. Managed to get the back roof done andcleaned away, laundry done and two wheelbarrow loads of wood in.
Maybe tomorrow I can get the front done...maybe.
Rick roof rake worked great.
Patricia, no snow on head or boots ,just had to snowblow it away from the house.
Enjoy your evening and stay safe,
Amy, I was always in the wrong place when that snow came down! :(
