" Those Who Touch Our Lives"
Every special person who touches our life leaves their own unique mark on our heart; a mark which can never be chiseled away even if the years eventually pull us apart.
We can take on their expressions and such the more we share of ourselves together. It's those little things about another person that can remain a part in us forever.
People who we have met throughout our life become a part of the person who we are today. We learn and we grow from the relationships each one touching us, in it's own special way.
We laugh about spending too much time together when we think we have become like each other. But it just shows how much we've been touched by the relationship we have found with one another.
Those special people who can touch our lives are like precious jewels amongst life's treasure. They shine on us and leave a lasting impression, a unique mark on our heart,
A gift without measures.

"One day you will realize that happiness is not what your house looks like, but how you love the people within its walls.
Happiness is not finding success by a certain time, but finding something you love so much time itself seems to disappear.
Happiness is not thinking you have earned the world's approval, but waking up each day and feeling so at peace within your own skin, quietly anticipating the day ahead, unconcerned with how you are perceived.
Happiness is not having the best of everything, but the ability to make the best of anything.
Happiness is knowing you did what you could with what you were given.
Happiness is not something that comes to us when every problem is solved and all things are perfectly in place, but in the shining silver linings that remind us the light of day is always there, if we slow down enough to notice."
"When the world is so complicated,
the simple gift of friendship is
within all of our hands."

Good morning..
A lovely day in the neighbourhood.....sound familiar?
Laundry will be hung on the line with care. :)
I hope to win over the quilt that is giving me grief today when possible. May not get it all done today but find a solution to the problem.
Phyllis, frustrating to say the least. Hope it all comes together soon for you.
Jane, market day today?
Patricia, did I ask if you have magpies out there? We encountered them in Alberta and they are not quiet!
Better get this day started before it heats up outside.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Just a quickie...we're getting ready to hit the market! Jim took her display tables and stuff in the truck and she's probably already set up! I still have to get dressed. Cindy said we'd leave sometime between 9 and 9:30 so I better get moving!
I wish you all a good day and I'll try to check back later! Bye for now!!!
Almost forgot...Thank you BUBBLE for the new opening! I loved it all!! Some of it was very familiar!
:coffee:
Laundry on line and some weeds pulled. While out in the garden 40 geese flew over.....first in v formation, then they scattered then back into v formation with a different leader. Fun watching the animals.
Bubble, yes, thank you, thoroughly enjoyed the new start.
:cup:
Good morning --- I think.
Amy, I would have sworn, positive, that there were no magpies in Alaska. I was dead wrong. They are evidently new to the state, settling into the coastal areas and following the highways with a fondness for parking lots.
"Since 2007, biologists at the Alaska Bird Observatory have tracked sightings of magpies in the far north. Reports of the black-and-white bird with the raven-like head, iridescent plumage and sweeping tail have come from as far north as Fort Yukon and from way down the Yukon River, where Nulato residents have seen them feeding on a carcass pile."
Amy had asked in the May posts if all was well with me. Didn't see that until Bubble had taken us to the new page so...
All is well but I'm getting weary of this "off and on again" weather. My immediate area hasn't been hit - yet! - but hail/tornadoes have been all around us. Same with Tulsa area (where Jane is) but the town she's in hasn't been affected, either.
Family doesn't like for me to post pictures and personal information on here so I can't show you Cooper's and my meeting on Memorial Day. I think he was tired of being handed around and my arms aren't as reliable as they used to be so he was a bit fussy. He's a cutie and I look forward to the day his neck doesn't have to be supported as much.
This weekend, I'm watching the OU softball team try to win their 4th championship at the college women's softball "world series", which is playing in OKC. If they do, they'll be the first team in history of the sport to have 4 championships in a row.
Off to the kitchen to find something to do with some things in grocery order delivered yesterday.
Enjoy your day, Everyfriend!
We're back from the Farmers Market in Broken Arrow! Ali's flower stand is doing well. She was busy every time I looked at her! Cindy and I did a little shopping there and at another little store down the street. I sure wish I had jars and my own freezer space. The veggies looked great and ready for the shelf!
AMY, I asked the ketchup guy if he'd be interested in a jar of homemade hot mustard and he got a bit excited. So I told him when my daughter takes me home, she'll bring one back for him and he knocked a dollar off my hot sauce!
CALLIE, you are enjoying your new little one! I bet he's a cutie but you're right. It's always more fun when they get a little bigger! I have another GGSon coming along in November this year. But he won't be any closer than the rest of them. He'll be in Houston, TX!
Also, you are right about the storms missing us! They can be scary when they get close!
Guess I better think about some lunch! Keep on keeping on! And enjoy the rest of the day!
AMY, good luck on the quilt!
Jane, I did peek in at the quilt but no work done on it today. Laundry, cooking, folding up tarps that I had used on the garden to ward the frost off and....shhh I had an HOURS nap!!! I need to also make mustard, we are licking the bottom of the jar at the moment. Another day that will happen...
Patricia, when I first saw the magpie I thought it was such a beautiful bird.....that was in Banff Alberta. We then camped out at Ponoka Alberta and in the morning magpies, their family cousins and more cousins were in the trees singing good morning at 5:30 am.......bless their belly buttons!!
Callie, I am glad the nasty weather has steered clear of both you and Jane!! Littles ones are so much fun to hug and cuddle.
Rick , every morning when we are on the right side of the grass is a good morning  .
Amy, I've never actually seen or heard them, most articles say their emigration is via the coast and northern larger rivers. So they haven't made it here yet, not even to the Wildlife refuge and sanctuary.
I'm going to wish you all a very good night. Cindy and I are getting involved in our usual evening get-together even though we had the morning today! I only havetw more weeks here and I need to fill them with love and company!
AMY, maybe tomorrow for the quilt! Or whatever!
PATRICIA, I bet, as it warms up, the birdies will find their way to your area.
Ali and family are coming for dinner tomorrow so we have our work cut our for us. We shelled fresh peas from the Farmers Market already!
Make tonight a good one! And come back tomorrow! We'll be watching for you!
Good morning..
Robins are singing for rain this morning...
So far we have been to town ,picked up groceries and I have replanted carrots and parsnips!
Now after lunch I am heading for the sewing room....I hope!
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
A good Sunday morning to EVERYFRIEND🦋🦋
My heart is so happy when I read about your days with your family JANE❣️❣️
CALLIE, we understand that some do not want us sharing pictures on the internet, but I sure would have loved to see you meeting Cooper❣️❣️
AMY, holding good thoughts for you finding some food that Babe will like eating.
PHYLLIS there have been so many terrible storms all over, like the one that caused your damage. Waiting for insurance can be so stressful 😢
Dave's wife moved in to his home this week. Her girls spend summers in San Diego with their father, so the big change of bedrooms will be the next step getting everyone under one roof. Her girls go to different schools in the same county and they wanted to finish out the year there. Can't wait for everyone to get settled in.
We are going to Vail tomorrow and will meet up with a Senior Net friend Eugene Thomas from Perth Australia. Some of you might remember he and his daughter Nadia. His wife Shirley passed a few years back and she was an active member as well.
We have been doing as much clearing out as we can. It seems like a never ending task.....😩😩
Enjoy your day EVERYFRIEND ‼️‼️‼️
Jenny ,good to see you!! Enjoy your time with your friends tomorrow!!
Family and friends makes the world a nice place..
Good morning..
Sunny with a starting temp of 51°. Not a lot on the docket today other than the usual. Will tackle that :tickedoff: quilt ,I hope to soon see the end of.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Sunny here too. But starting at about 70°. Nothing much planned here - as usual.
I didn't make it in last night. We had Allison and family for supper and I had to take my computer off the dining room table and after they left, I just plain didn't feel like putting it all back together again!
I hope you all had a pleasant evening and a good night! I wish you all a good day coming up.
I had my walk and did a few odd jobs around the kitchen and we're doing a bit of laundry today. I'm thinking that will be my last laundry until I get home. We're leaving here on the 15th. Our one and only stop on the way will be Indianapolis to have a short overnight visit with Courtney. And we're spending the night with a sister of one of Cindy's best friends while she was growing up. She found out that we were coming and insisted that we sleep at her house. I think it's not too far from where Courtney's apartment!
Once more...enjoy your day, Everyfriend!
Posted photos of a tree that my friend has but doesnt know the name. Loads of flowers.
Rick, does this look anything like your tree.
Quote from: Amy on June 03, 2024, 10:27:33 AMRick, does this look anything like your tree.
My only remaining trees are a Japanese maple (I think), and a pine tree.
The purple picture looks to me like a Rhododendron. The yellow, - I have no idea, but it's a very nice looking tree.
Rick, thank you..The lady said that it was a gift a few years back and they didn't tell her the name. The bees sure love it too!
Good morning..
Temp is going to tickle the 80's today. Good day to stay in. Taking van back in to fix the problem on the a/c neighbour is picking me up then taking back when finished. Grass is close to being cut again...maybe tomorrow. I didn't get at the quilt as I had other jobs take precedence and I still have one to finish that today.
Jane, your time there has flown by fast it seems!!
Better get a move on and get things done or even started here.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend! I'm up,had my breakfast and I'm finishing my coffee with you! I don't know what today will bring but when I finish here, I'll go get dressed and take my morning walk. Cindy is already at work in her office corner.
It's going to get hot later but right now, it's only 70 degrees heading for the high 80s. I need to walk before it gets up there!
AMY, You're not putting off working on the quilt on purpose, are you?
I better go get dressed before the temp starts rising. Have a good day, better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow! And don't forget to share it with us!
Just waiting on the call for the vehicle.
Jane, for what needs to be done requires thought and not just 40 -60 min to get it done right. I did manage to cut the binding out and will sew and press that tomorrow......maybe. They are calling for rain tomorrow so that will be my excuse to high tail it to the sewing room. Grass can wait till Fri..I hope.
WHERE IS EVERYFRIEND?
Hiding :2funny:
Nothing much happening, nothing much to say. As my mother would say - "The cat have your tongue?"
Had a super busy (for me) day yesterday. Am having a "leisurely" day today.
Well, we finished our supper and Cindy went back to her computer to answer something one of her customers had posted. When she's finished, I'll be off here and ready to visit with her for the rest of the evening!
We made a quick trip to the store to pick up some stuff we needed and now (when she finishes) the evening is ours. Also had some time with Ali and the kids today! It's been a good one for me. I hope yours is, too! I'll look for you tomorrow!
Good morning..
We did get rain during the night, not much but we are to get more today.
Yesterday was busy! Making calls, changing appointment and just general "stuff"
Jane , I guess one could say I was busier than a centipede tying up 20 pairs of shoes!!
Callie, I would like a leisure, hope it is today but not sure if I will have to make arrangements to pick up the vehicle..
Best get this day started..
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend! It's supposed to be sunny and hot here today so I'm thinking I'll try to get my walk in early! I hope you all have a good day..better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow! Make it your own in every way and pop in her and share a word or two with us!
6/6/xxxx THINK REMEMBER
I remember what happened on June 6 but I'm an avid reader of war based novels![/i]
I also remember what happened on June 6 1944....I have some sand from Juno beach.
CSPAN has coverage of D Day Events. History Channel tonight (8:00 O'Clock here).
Well, folks, I had done a Word Document, detailing my woes since May 29th, and when I went to copy it here, I hit Delete instead of Enter, and it disappeared.
Is there anything I can do to get it back? I went to my Word documents and although it showed to be there, only the last sentence (on page 2) showed up. Is there help for me? My mind is still boggled. If anyone knows how to get back the deleted first page, let me know.
Tome - Using Windows?
You might try looking in the "Recycle Bin". It might be there.
I have never, and will not, shut off warnings - like "Are you sure".
Sometimes I find deleted things in Trash.
Good morning
Not sure what is happening today, called the garage and they were waiting on a part....so van -no -go(gh) home. Cut the grass last night but still have the trimming to do if it doesn't rain.
Better get the day started...seems to fly by anymore!!
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend! It's going to be another HOT one today....heading for the 90s! As soon as I finish here, I'm getting dressed and hitting the trail before the sun hits me!
We had a good day yesterday. The kids came over and I had specials with all three of them. Sometimes Mikey (the middle one) is a bit distant but we had a very special time yesterday!
Then after supper, Cindy and I had our get-together while we watched the special show marking the 80th anniversary of the assault on Normandy! There were about 12 veterans of that assault there and so was President Biden. It was a good show!
I guess I better get dressed before I get caught in my jammies. Tome, I hope you find your posting. I'm interested in seeing what you've been up to!
I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow! Make it your own in every way and PLEASE...share it with us!
Good morning..
Looking like more rain today.with a peek or two of the sun.
Laundry ,chase dust kangaroos and try to get some food into Babe.
We did get the vehicle back patched together for the time being.Parts that were to come in two days ago are being waited on.
Self propelled lawnmore may need a cable if the one it doesn't come lose. Thank goodness the riding lawnmower is ok.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend! I'll try to be back later. My computer is acting crazy and I'm not even sure this will post. Have a good day just in case I don't "see" you!
Good morning, early sixties for a low this sunny morning. Hope everyone will be having a good day, problems solved and to-dos marked off lists. We've had a couple of power blips this morning. We're heading for another day in the eighties with wind gusts and fire warnings,
The National Weather Service of Fairbanks has issued a Red Flag Warning, which is in effect this weekend, from 10 a.m. Saturday to 9 p.m. Sunday, June 8 through June 9. According to the National Weather Service, dry, warm and windy conditions will continue through this weekend. This could push trees into power lines and start fires.
Winds will blow from the east at 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 25 mph. Gusts to 35 mph over higher elevations and humidity will be as low as 18%.
A Red Flag Warning means that conditions are occurring or will occur which could lead to the development of large and dangerous fires.
A late good morning to anyone.
Yesterday was my good "to-do" day. So today will be a "do-nothing" day.
:cup:
Good Morning Everyfriend!
AMY, I sent you an email yesterday but things are not working as they should. If You didn't get it I'm sorry. I hope you're on the way to feeling better after the loss of your good friend!
We're on our way to play with the kids this morning while Ali and Dan go work on the flowers! I'll try to check back in later. Enjoy your day Everyfriend!

I'm waiting for mine..... ---Need Coffee.
Here we are at Sunday again‼️‼️
This week flew by and the whirlwind continues.
We did meet with our Perth friend for lunch on Monday. His dil and twin 14 year old grandsons joined us and we had a delightful visit together.
Bob got a few chores done at the mountain house in Vail. It was pretty dreary the entire time we were there. A bit of sun occasionally. We walked around Vail Village and enjoyed a nice German Cuisine meal. Many trees were in full blossom but not many pretty flowers that our high country towns are notorious for quite yet 🥰
We came home Tuesday as I had a pain specialist appointment on Wednesday that resulted in me getting two lower back injections on Thursday. So far so good. These were ordered by my spine surgeon. He wanted me to take note of the relief I received immediately due to the numbing (lidocaine) I was given. It was not as obvious as I hoped it might be but by evening I was definitely feeling relief.
Good Morning Everyfriend! GG Emma spent the afternoon here and she and Cindy were on the way to a restaurant to pick up our supper when they got rear-ended (again) at a red light! Cindy was just rear ended in April and had to get a new car. Now she has to go through all this again! The car that hit her ran a red light got the side of the back end of her car. Thank goodness Emma wasnt sitting on that side of the car! Now she has to go through all that again!
I don't know what's happening today but her job was supposed to take her to Texas tomorrow ans she has already cancelled that. The insurance company that the other driver uses wasn't open to talk to last night so that part has to wait for today! But the police were there and the woman driving was blamed! We're supposed to be leaving for Pennsylvania on Friday morning (I think). Cindy said if she has to, we'll have a rental because she's already made all kinds of arrangements for the trip!
Now I'm off to get myself dressed and go for a walk! I wish you all a nice day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow! Be sure to stop by and share it with us. We miss you when you're not here!
Where is Everyfriend, today????
Snoozing
Wide awake now. Looks like no one is home. I'll come back later. Need some coffee.
CHEESE
Looks like it's just you and me today, RICK! I'll shuffle the cards and you can deal!
It's coffee time again. I heard it just finish so will go pick it up, then continue here at S&F.
Everyone must be away for the weekend.
From Marilyn in a mail:
I noticed that maryz (Mary Zelle) hadn't posted in Bosom Buddies for about a month. I looked and found her obituary in a newspaper in Tennessee. She posted only in Bosom Buddies. She used to post in Library, which is how I knew her.
Good Morning Everyfriend!
I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of maryz! I hope she didn't suffer!
I'm also a bit worried about AMY! It's been several days since she posted and she didn't answer my email either! If she doesn't post today, I'm going to call her!
The rest of you have a good day!
I spoke to Amy yesterday. She is okay, just very busy presently with family and Babe.
I'm sure she'll post when she has a moment to herself.
Oh thank you so much, PATRICIA! I've been really worried and just about the time I was ready to try calling her, my great-grandkids showed up! They just left and I came by to check if she had posted and then was going to call her! Since I know she's OK, I won't bother her!
The past few days have been interesting to say the least.
Lost my friend, quilting mentor, and confidant on Sat. She is at peace now but left a void in a lot of lives. Her grandchildren were sending her questions each month on things of her past and they were going to put them made into books for everyone. She was going to be a great grandma this fall.........twice!!
Been busy doing work here, taking Kyle to Dr and trying to get Babe to eat.
I finally finished the quilt and will post a photo.
I am sorry to read of Maryz passing.
Jane, you are never a bother to me!!!
Patricia, thank you......I still have two pies and 6 dozen tarts to make........maybe tomorrow. :)
Good Morning to whoever shows up today and especially to you AMY! We all missed you! I hope life is better for you soon. I know what it means to lose a close friend and I wish there was something I could do to help you. Hang in there!
We're taking off for Pennsylvania tomorrow with a stop in Indianapolis on the way for a visit with my Gdaughter, Courtney. She just moved there and is settling in for her teaching job! I'll be back later to check up on you and then I'll be packing up the computer so I won't be around for at least 4 days...maybe 5. I'll be thinking of all of you!
Have a great day today and don't forget to share it with us! We miss you when you're not here!
Safe trip - enjoy the visit.
Busy day again, managed to get pies and 6 dozen buttertarts done. Into town to pick up a few things then home to flatten anything high winds would pick up. We are under a tornado watch and large hail.I did cover what could be covered and the rest I hope survives.
Jane safe trip. I slipped some buttertarts in the hidey hole.Know you like them!
Patricia, how are things going your way? Found lean ground chicken, made it into patties and Babe will eat it,as along as I hand feed her. What ever works
Jane, enjoy your return trip and visit with Courtney. I know you'll miss the g grands and everyone, I know you must have several pictures and wonderful memories of this trip. And also, be glad to be back home again with Frankie and Cooper.
Amy, same old routine which you know, and is why I no longer frequently post.
We're into the eighties now, today will be 21 hours and 56 minutes of daylight. And we had a huge fire just to the south of us, started Monday, but it's in a wilderness area so they're only monitoring it. On Sunday and Monday were thunderstorms with high wind gusts and power outage blimps, but nothing major or unusual in a town surrounded by forests.
I've been on a protein kick, lots of meat, noodles, carrots and onion dishes at night with apples, oranges or peaches the rest of the time.
The building is having its biannual structural inspection on the 27th, with my floor between 2:30 to 4:30.
Good morning
We were up and on the road before 6:30 am yesterday,Kyle's appointment went well. Now to wait for the results and get another MRI appointment.
Today we are delivering pies and tarts to our friend and then home to cut the grass. The tornado didn't touch down here but we did get pounding rain, lots of thunder and lightening on the plus side although power flickered it did not go out.
I had better pu an egg in my boot and beat it.lots to do today.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning,
Amy, glad the tornado didn't hit you! My area has been lucky - so far - in that none of the more than 100 tornadoes in the state this year have affected us.
Patricia, "Amy, same old routine which you know, and is why I no longer frequently post.: Same here! I notice in the list of posts that most are posting in the Game forums - almost none in the "Conversational" ones. I miss the ones that used to make observations, offer opinions and discuss them.
Am caught up on Domestic Duties and can't think of any desk work that needs to be done. No activities to look forward to. So will probably :study: and :sleepy:
Enjoy your day, Everyfriend.
Good morning
Starting out at 42° and nice sunny day..
A day of rest here...
Callie thank you. Although not common here we have had a few tornados say hello.Glad you are also safe.
Jane, enjoy your trip homeward bound.
Patricia, I think Cooper will be all over Jane when she gets home!! May end up following her like a shadow.
Bubble,feel better soon.
Rick, hope all is well there.
Phyllis, did you get all your ducks in a row to get the house repairs done?
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Quote from: Amy on June 16, 2024, 07:54:21 AMRick, hope all is well there.
All's fine here, but nothing doing. Just heard our weather forecast for the week and it will be HOT. Hope no power "adjusting" will have to be done.
Jane may want to go back where she was.
Everyone - keep your COOL.
Good morning, this weekend will be clear, sunny and again in the eighties, We seem to segue between either hot or rainy weather each week. We only have one close fire to the south, 32725.9 acres as of this morning.
Since it is an uninhabited area, south of the city of North Pole; they're mainly keeping an eye on it and stationing some firefighters around some vacation area cabins.
I cannot imagine living in a tornado zone, especially as forecasters say those zones are increasing. The past three years have seen severe weather related disasters increasing all over the world.
Amy, I agree that Cooper and Jane will have a warm reunion. She'll miss everyone in Oklahoma and be glad to see her house and everyone in Pennsylvania.
Rick, last week we had some rain squalls with high wind gusts so we had some power outages but more of a blimp than lasting ones.
Callie, I agree with you on those who've left us. It's the same here, with many passing or moving to live with adult children, The ones that are left simply aren't able to do the activities we once so enjoyed.
As you may recall, My aunt and uncle and their children lived in the Oklahoma City area, but we rarely hear from the cousins and their families anymore.
I hope we hear from Phyllis soon about her house repairs.
This morning's newspaper contained this article about an event today at a locally owned bookstore:
"Typewriters will be on display for people to peruse and to touch at no charge. Learn how to type up a page the old-fashioned way or commission a work from the typewriter poet on site. All ages welcome."
"Old fashioned" ? :) Maybe I should have taken my blue ribbon for first place in an area typing contest when I was a Senior in high school! ;D
Rick, we are to get the fry weather also.....not looking forward to it. Happy Fathers Day!
Callie, they should also put out rotary phones or better yet this one and ask the young ones to use them.
Remember party lines with 2 to 4 families?
When I was in High School there was still "party Lines" in this City. I still remember our old number. When I went to work for the Phone Company we learned about 8 Party, Semi Selective Service. All long gone.
We had a wall phone like that when I grew up. Son#2 has it now but just for show. Number was 1608-F-2 but we had a private line because my dad had business calls from home.
My maternal grandmother was on a party line. Supposedly, when she wanted to make a call and someone was on the line, she would say, "I smell your beans burning" and hang up. Line was clear when she picked it up again. ;D
We often had this one woman who often listened in.
I would say Carol, hang up with no response. Then I would say, don't make me tell George, her husband, then you heard a click.
Our number was, 3201 in the fifties. I was in my teens before we had to input the middle three numbers, and it was fifteen or so years later when they added the 1-000-000-0000 full sequence used now.
HAPPY FATHER'S DAY to ALL of the dads in our group‼️‼️
We will be celebrating tomorrow when Dr. Dave returns from a conference. Bob has had calls from all of the family and he is enjoying a restful day. It is HOT out so we aren't even going to stick our noses out😍
Weather has been hot hot all week and will continue to be for a couple more days😩
JANE, I am sorry to read that Cindy was rear ended again. Thankfully no one was hurt, but what a headache trying to get the car fixed or replaced😩 Enjoy the rest of your trip and safe travel home.
AMY, I send my condolences for the passing of your friend. Glad Babe will eat as long as you hand feed her.
RICK, I did not realize or have forgotten you were a telephone man. I come from a long line of ma bell employees and that also includes my husband.
MARILYN, I am saddened to read your news about Mary Zell.
I wrote my post earlier today but got called away.....so I lost most of my post,. I have tried to recreate it. Now I best hit SEND before I do something else.
Goodnight and pleasant dreams to all.
Thanks Amy and Patricia: I am totally "restored" now, feeling back to normal.
Now it is just that persisting heat weave in Israel. The last few days we are between 35C to 40C! The worse are the nights...
Thankfully I have a little breeze from the sea during the day:
I try not to put the a/c because it gives me headaches (especially in shops and malls). But when Illy is here, it is her first move even before greeting: the a/c.
Good morning..
We had a nice rain during the night.....saves me from watering the garden
Lots to do today, due to our temps racing to the top of the thermometer we are taking away our garbage today.
Patricia, yes I remember party lines....at times they were a curse and another a blessing. I used to work on a farm in the summers and they had the wall mounted phone. Since her husband was in the hospital we were doing the chores. One morning the phone rang to say he had passed, I think we may have started the milking and trucks pulled into the farm. Neighbours had also heard the message and they sent us to the house and they finished the chores.
Later on in life (rotary phone) we had a neighbour who would listen in on conversations. We knew who it was but his coo coo clock gave him away when it chimed. :2funny:
Bubble we are also in for some heat and I am not impressed. We either freeze or fry here. Glad to hear you are feeling better.
Jenny, thank you. We were two peas in a pod with our thinking.
Rick, hope you have a/c. I have ours on right now..best to get the house cool now than have the a/c work hard during the heat.
Better gather my wits and get on with the day. Two deliveries of treats for freinds to be made then home to load up what little garbage there is.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Half the month gone by before I noticed that I haven't posted here. Shame on me.
Oscar is here helping me type. He and Shan have been taking turns using the new pad I got them for in front of the patio door. It is big enough for both to stretch out on at the same time. I noticed Oscar looking intently out the back window after his breakfast. Went to see what he was looking at and was surprised to see a doe out on the small grass patch. While we watched, she gradually moved over to the tree line and slowly nibbled her way down the tree line until she was out of sight. This is the first time I've seen a deer here, and Oscar's first time seeing one period. One side and behind the apartment grounds is bordered by a stream/drainage area that feeds Cedar Run which, in turn, feeds into the Yellow Breeches Creek and then out to the Susquehanna River.
MG. hope you keep a camera close by as she may be back again!! Lovely to see this.
Good Morning Everyfriend! Day is well on the way around here! I was up in time to get dressed, make the bed and have coffee and half my breakfast before Cooper got here! He ran in the door and gave me a welcome home and then went looking to see if anyone else was around. Then he was back again and all over me to welcome me home! He had his breakfast and we took a nice long walk and then he had a good half hour in the yard. Now he's asleep on his mat!
Cindy is at the computer doing her daily job from here. When she's finished, I think she's going to go meet a lifetime friend. They grew up todether and the distance has not changed their close relationship!
Cathy camer over last night to welcome me home and have a visit with Cindy.
I'm pretty much unpacked but I still have some stuff to put away. My house was spiffy clean and the yard showed labor there. Christ, Cathy and Frankie did a great job for me while I was gone!
I've read all the posts and it's really good to "see" ALL of you again. I have missed this place! I'll be back! You all come back too!

RICK, I did not realize or have forgotten you were a telephone man. I come from a long line of ma bell employees and that also includes my husband.
Do you remember Dave Bate?(from this group) He was also a Tel guy. Luckily I spent my career on an inside job - CO repair. We also took care of all those "Cord Boards". I always felt lucky because I don't do well up in the air, and if they had me climb a pole I might have just had to quit. I miss the old Pioneer group but still follow a group called "Association of BellTel Retirees" - https://belltelretirees.org/ (https://belltelretirees.org/).
I better post this before I lose it.
According to the Weather Man, tomorrow starts our heat spell. I use a big window A/C to cool most of the house, but have small units in the bed rooms. I'll start early and get a jump on that heat (I hope). Must make sure there's water outside for the birds and squirrels.
Good Morning Everyfriend! Yesterday was a busy day and when evening came and I turned on the TV, I saw about 10 minutes of the first show and then fell asleep!Cindy tapped me on the shoulder and told me it was time to hit the sack! This morning, Cooper arrived a bit before 6 for Frankie's early day at the hospital and we've been up and about ever since!
We're in the middle of a high temperature week here. Every day will be into the mid to high 90s! It's almost as if we stayed in Oklahoma! My Dad used to come inside back in the days of no air conditioning and say, "it's hotter 'n the hinges of Hades out there". I know exactly what he meant this week!
I have everything unpacked but I still have some stuff to put away today and some stuff to get ready for Cindy to take back home with her!
Guess I better get busy! I'll be back later...i hope! It was a great visit with Cindy and her family but I think it's pretty good to be home!
Good morning..
We have been out and now home to stay....I hope. Going to be a blistering day out there for the next few days.
Jane ,good to have you home. We are also experiencing that nasty weather. Pity the folks that have to work out in it and animals that have no shelter!
Enjoy your day day stay cool and safe!
Put some water out there for the animals and birds that can't come inside.
I do Rick, plus I put their food over in the shade of the pine tree.
I'm all unpacked and everything is put away! Now I have to get some stuff ready for Cindy to take back with her. Some she'll leave at Courtney's and some go all the way.
Keep out of the heat!
Ok, if nobody's hanging around here, neither am I. Cathy came over and spent most of the day here. We did some shopping and I made dinner for the 3 of us! It was a nice visit. Cindy is back on her computer finishing up her day's work and here I am. Cooper isn't coming to stay tomorrow because Frankie has the day off. But she did say she might be by to give him a bath and then leave him while she runs to the store1
When I finish here, I'm going to turn on the TV and probably fall asleep in front of it. I was up at 5 a.m. today and my eyes are fast entering the click shut phase. I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow! Make the day your own in every way and then let us know how you did that!!! Good Night Everyfriend!
I'm in and out of here several times a day, but being I rarely do anything there's little to post about.

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzz
Good Morning everyone! It is going to be another very hot day today (and for the next week or more).
Jane, nice to see you got home okay and had such a nice time.
Oscar and I both were watching for the doe yesterday morning. She didn't come back. The birds seemed scarce too, but Oscar seemed intent on keeping an eye out for quite a while. This morning he was already off his perch when I got up. Nothing was moving, again no doe and no birds in sight at all now.
Good Morning to Everyfriend! I'm up and attem but not as early as usual. Frankie has the day off! She said that she'd be over later to give Cooper a bath. She only has a shower at her apartment and she tried to do it there a couple times but it didn't work. He got away! I don't mind because it gives me a visit with her. However, she usually leaves him here to dry off and hits the grocery store the same day. I always get my list ready and she picks up the stuff for me that I need!
MG, too bad about the deer not coming back! It could still happen! Keep your eyes open!
RICK....WAKE UP!!!
Gotta go get dressed and make my bed. Cindy is already up and at her job on the computer. When one of her customers calls and it's an open conversation, I am so impressed with what she does!
I guess I better get on the ball and get my day started! I wish you all a good one...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow! Drop by when you can!
have a good midday everyone. I read but have a very short remember span. had a very good father's day. both of our Deuters came by and brought Me a new office chair, they bought it together. My wife knew what they were up to, but they wouldn't let her Shre in the expense. it is overcast here today. top of the day everyone

Hello Lloyd --- Good to see you post .
We just hit the 90° mark. Keep in and cool everyone.
Good afternoon.
We were up and running ...well one in a wheelchair and the other one a "fast" walk .:)
Went to Kyle's appointment then onto Costco....I will NEVER go that late in theday again!! Talk about an ant hill of people! Managed to get whewe needed
then to Staples for printer ink. Grabbed a bite to eat atDairy Queen, ate some and brought the rest home for dogs and crow.
Jane, looks as if Rick is awake now. :)
Lloyd good to see you.
MG .the doe may come back .
Unpacking done now to do the fine tuning..
Hi, Lloyd!
I don't know about the doe. One of the grounds people was out this afternoon cutting back the lower branches along the tree-line. Looks like there are still a few to nibble though. Interesting that he cut only half-way along the parking area. I didn't watch the whole time, so I don't know if he went the whole way down the side of the grassy area though. The rest is untouched.
MG - Oscar will likely see the Doe before you do.
Good morning..
Nice misty rain happening, taking away one job I had to do to today. I won't be sorry if the heat wave doesn't happen again today.
Jane, are you settled in? Getting back into your routine?
Patricia, I wouldn't mind if you sent cold air this way.
MG, there was a moose in the city we go to, she has now been traquilized and relocated .
Rick ,do you get another uncomfortable day hot there also?
Better start the day...
Good Morning Everyfriend! I didn't get in last night before I hit the hay!
No, AMY, I'm not getting into my routine! Cindy is still here and Christy came up from Maryland for a visit and will stay until Sunday or Monday. Cathy is in and out so she can visit with Cindy too. And Cindy's "growing-up" best friend is in and out! It's a bit busy around here. I also have Cooper daily while Frankie works and Christy brought her little doggie along. One good thing, these kids will cook something when they're hungry and so far, all I've dealt with is main meals and I always have help! I don't know how these kids turned out so great but I must have done something right!
Almost forgot, son PHIL is the busy one but he's even been around when he can!
MG it sounds like you've been watching for the deer1 Maybe the doggies will tell you if them see it out there!
Gonna be another hot one today. The temps are going into the 90s again! We already how one doggie walk this morning and it wasn't too bad at 7:30! I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow! Make it your own in every way and PLEASE....share it with us!
Quote from: Amy on June 20, 2024, 07:19:54 AMRick ,do you get another uncomfortable day hot there also?
Predicted above 90° temp's through Sunday. TG for A/C
TG for A/C
Rick, amen to that!!
Stay cool..
While I may not see my doe again, Sue has been seeing a doe and fawn in her neighborhood for several days now.
For a relatively small number of years, we've been getting more and more black bear sightings in developments. They have been coming down into yards, mostly across the river just above Harrisburg proper. But this year, one was sighted somewhere a few miles away by or near the Wertzville Road, aka: "the backroad to Carlisle". Just last week there was a report of a black bear even further down from here towards York in, I think, Adams County. All those old orchards are likely a big attractant to bear as they are deer. A few winters ago, someone reported seeing a bobcat just up the road by a few blocks from where I lived at the time. My next door neighbor found a huge turtle navigating her yard a few years back. Last seen, it had apparently traveled up a steep wooded hill from the creek, crossed the road (risky business) and started on down the other side through her yard heading towards the Susquehanna River. Hope it made it, but that way it would have had to cross the highway and railyard, then go around or up and down another steep hill. All it had to do was continue to float on down the creek to get to the Susquehanna. No one else, to my knowledge, mentioned seeing it. Maybe it was a frmale looking for a safe nesting site.
Good late morning, Amy, you don't want our weather. Or perhaps you do if yours is in that heat dome they're talking about. Ours is in the mid to late eighties.
We've had gusty, erratic winds that have increased one large fire to the south with some smoke. Tuesday's forecast is more thundershowers and gusty winds, hail.
Tomorrow is the solstice and afterward, we'll be on the downward side of light until the winter solstice, December 21st, when it begins another cycle and light increases. Tomorrow will bring parties and celebrations with store sales, streets blocked off for food stalls, exhibits, loud music, and marathons, boat races, including a one thousand mile speedboat race ending. And the Midnight Sun baseball game with no artificial lights beginning at midnight. The Seattle Studs will play the Fairbanks Goldpanners.
The only time the game has been canceled in its 64 years was in 2020 during the pandemic. The Goldpanners have sent over 200 players to the majors, including Barry Bonds, Tom Seavers and Dave Winfield.
The entire city will be partying with noise and loudspeakers 24/7, with the main carnival area less than two blocks from me, unfortunately. I won't expect much sleep those two nights.
I spent yesterday rearranging, watering plants, and deep cleaning while moving and re-arranging furniture. Today will be more of the same. The weekend will be the last part of tidying up, including the automatic oven clean. Then I will be ready for the structural inspection on the 27th.
I do this every time for a 10-minute walk through and a nod...
I'm hoping there is some cooling down for all you folks suffering in that heat.
MG, it's interesting to read about your wildlife sightings. We have a lot of wildlife, including an estimated 200 moose living within the city limits, usually by one of the creeks or sloughs in town. We've had a few stories in the past where moose have entered a bank, retirement home and mall via automatic doors. Although we rarely see them other than during winter. They crossed the rivers, and entered the city limits to get away from the wolves.
In the suburbs, there are bears, black, grizzly, and Kodiak brown. Heading south, there are caribou, musk oxen and Wood Bison, a larger cousin to buffalo. Although, I've noticed fewer sightings and incidences than what there were from my childhood.
An interesting fact is that caribou and reindeer are the same animal. Reindeer are the domesicated version.
From an article decrying self checkouts;
" There's a term for the steady decline of so many aspects of contemporary life, online and off: enshittification. Coined by author and journalist Cory Doctorow in 2022, it initially referred to a decline in service quality on the part of tech giants who had so thoroughly captured users that they could extract value from them without being sensitive to their preferences or needs. Social media platforms, for example, hoover up your personal data and, in return, fill your timeline with bots and trolls. Or rideshare services gouge you because it's busy hour and you've hit surge pricing, but you have few other options because the apps crushed the taxi industry and public transit sucks."
Hard to accept that tomorrow is summer solstice.....I am enjoying every bit of these nice long days.
We have had a couple of nice cool days and they sure have been enjoyable. Last night we went to an outdoor concert in the park and boy was it cold. I fixed nice salads for us and boy we could have used some warm soup instead‼️ Hotter weather is to return now.
PATRICIA, we managed to get us an Alaskan Cruise finalized this week and we are super excited. It is later this summer. Your state is one of the last three we need to see visit to say we have been to all 50 states. The Dakotas and Minnesota are left.
Happy to read you are getting settled back in at home JANE, after your nice family time away.
AMY, you and Kyle seem to be back at your daily tasks as well. Costco is one heck of a crazy place most all the time, so I understand what you are saying.
RICK, I do not recognize the name Dave Bate. I started in CO Repair then moved to line assignment before my hubby rode up on his big white horse and swept me away and took me to Germany. My dad was supervisor in plant for years. Then retired as a training manager at ma bell training center here in Denver. My brother was top craft doing business lines then subscriber line carrier. He started out climbing poles as did my dad. When my dad first started after ww2 he hung on the side of mountains putting in lines all over the state of Colorado. Not something I would ever wish to do. When we drive up to Vail we always comment on the wires we can see high on the side of canyon walls and think about my dad. I tried to go to the site you shared but could not find a place to sign up and join. 2 of my dads brothers also worked for ma bell. One was an engineer here in Denver the other was outside plant in Wyoming. My husband started as a a dial administrator in traffic when he got out of USAF then moved to engineering and did several jobs in this capacity. Ma Bell was a great company, as we all know, but divestiture pretty much ruined it for all of us.
We enjoy all kinds of wildlife here in our area also MARS. I take a lot of picture from our video cameras of them moving about.
Time to get some dinner started.
Have a great evening.
Denver - I'm guessing Dave Bate was way back there in SeniorNet. He lived in Oregon and was a big computer help here.
My brother, three years older than me, worked for N.Y.Tel - started as a Splicer's helper and then worked his way up. His best assignment was the Bloomingdales Installer. Later into "Special Services" including NYC's OTB stuff. I followed his lead but was lucky in starting right off as a CO Switchman (having studied electricity/electronics in High School.) Eventually took a Foreman's job in our first electronic switch, and ended up in Trunk Assignment - converting records to computer. Then ----- retirement. So many different jobs, and training. My need to fix things remains.
Regarding "The Association of BellTel Retirees" I couldn't find a place to join either (didn't look too long) so sent them an email asking about it. If you're of the mind to, their Phone No is 1-800-261-9222. I've been a "member" pretty much since the beginning, and appreciate their efforts on our behalf. I'm one of those who's Pension has been sold off to an Insurance Company.
Good morning...
Another hot one again today! Last evening we had a heavy down pour, plants were sighing with relief out there.
Busy day playing catch up..the faster I go the behinder I get it seems. Need to use up some strawberries so a strawberry rhubarb pie is in order.
Picked up some probiotics to see if the will help Babe and the girls at the pet store gave me a sample of raw food for her...not so sure about that but will try it.
Jenny , I usually go just when it opens and 20 - 30 mins later I am out the door!
Patricia, I refuse to use self check outs. I go to a cashier and when asked if I would like the self check out I tell them no, and when people use them they are doing cashiers out of a job. The store usually has one girl over seeing 4 -6 check outs!
MG ,we have all kinds of wildlife here not the variety of what Patricia has but a lot. Nice to see them about. When city folks come to live up here and copmplain about the animals I am quiick to tell them you are in their (animals) home so you behave , as they were here first.
Jane, enjoy your time with your family..routines can wait.
Better get the day started..
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Evening, Good Night and Good Morning!
I've been up and attem for a while....met Cooper on his arrival, took him for his morning walk (Christy and her doggie, Lennie went with us). He's had his breakfast and he told Lennie, in no uncertain terms) that he doesn't want to play with her.
Cindy is up and on her business computer and I think Christy is in the shower! Day is on the way! I don't know what kind of plans they've made for today. We had lots of company yesterday and last night. Cindy is arranging her time so she can spend some with family and long-time friends while she's here.
I guess I better get going. I still have stuff to get done! I wish you all a good day....better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow! And don't forget to share it with us
Almost forgot...It's still "hotter'n blue blazes" around here. That's one of my Dad's expressions! Bye for now!
A bit East of Jane, we are starting at 82° this morning. Looks like three more days in the 90's, but with some rain each day. That should help raise the humidity (Bah).
I note that the "net" is a bit slow - last night and this morning - so don't be surprised if it looks like S&F is down. It's not.
Rick ,we are at 64° at the moment. I have turned the a/c off and opened the doors and windows. We have had a light rain and it is still overcast out. I sure don't mind this weather but really disliked the heat dome effect!!
Rammel, you're having Oklahoma weather! Miss Ellen should feel right at home!!! She took her Nanny twins to a splash pad in the park the other day and said she let them get her wet. They loved that!
Over in Senior Learn, the page where you can reply, is not there. Now my computer is wonky, and it's probably me. If anyone has ideas how to fix/find it, please state your name, rank and serial number (LOL) just joking!
Good morning, I lost my post so I'll summarize. It's hot, going to again be in the mid to late eighties, people are already busy setting everything up for all the solstice activities and its going to be a late night considering my building is only a block away from activity center. Numerous activities will begin or reach a high point after midnight. A golf game, baseball game, river regatta, peak store sales and an antique car show...all within a two block radius from my building.
I've been busy deep cleaning and re-arranging my apartment for the every three year structural inspection where the bigwigs come up from Juneau and stress everyone out. I do this every time only to have them breeze through, say very nice and then on to their next one. My floor is scheduled at two thirty on the 27th. This year, I decided to re arrange everything just to make it more interesting.
Amy, this portion of the primordial forest and major rivers covering the state, used to be prime hunting grounds for the Athabaskans before the Russians and Americans took over and then the Alaskan gold rush marginalized them in 1902. In 1903, the gold camp became an incorporated city and major supply center so we're late to the civilization game and many animals have more forest to hide out in. The rest of the US and Canada has had more time to build up.
Denver - Sent you a PM
Light rain still continuing, nice were are not frying today.
Callie, has been fed and had her tummy rub.
Strawberry rhubarb pie in the hidey hole...........think it could have used a tad more sugar but ice cream or whipping cream will take care of that.
Is S&F slow for anyone, or everyone?
Thermometer hit the 100 mark. Again, TG for A/C.
I can not get to the hide hole quick enough......my very favorite pie...strawberry rhubarb‼️ I bet your pie would be the best EVER, AMY❣️
RICK.....it is very slow today. I am going to look for your PM
I need to pay better attention, the festival is tomorrow, Saturday!
I'm heading for the haystack! The girls are getting ready to do that too but not as early as I go. Cindy is still on Okla. time and that's an hour earlier than here.
I hope you all had a good day today. I did! I wish you all another good one tomorrow! I'll "see" you then! Rest well!
Good morning...
A damp one here this morning with a starting temp of 60° but feels hotter due to humidity.
Working around the house today after I go feed Callie and pick up meds.
Crows are hollering for their breakfast! Have yet to hear the rooster at the back crow.........maybe he slept in??
Jane, have fun with your girls and da Cooper!
Patricia, glad to see that I am not the only one to get my days mixed up.
Jenny, raspberry pie or rasin pie is my favourite pie.
Rick, it seems S&F is better this morning..
Better start the day before it becomes too hot.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
We're starting off at about 80° after hitting 100° yesterday. The air out there isn't very nice. The rain we were to get went North of us.
Good to see our speed here has picked up.
Good Morning Everyfriend! I've been up and attem for a while. Frankie is off today so we don't have Cooper....yet! Maybe later! Christy and I took her Lennie for a walk earlier. She's just a little bitty thing, I forget what kind she is but she sure is a cutie and still a bit of a puppy! She's into everything and then all of a sudden she takes a nap!
Christy went to meet a friend that she's known since 6th grade. They get together whenever they can! Cindy is on her job! She's playing catch-up for taking some time off yesterday! So here I am. I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow. It's going to be another one in the mid to high 90s. I'm ready for a normal summer around here....80 to 88 is ok! See ya'll later!
I stopped by on my way to bed to see who had been by and I was the last to post so I'll just say ....
Good Night Everyfriend! See you tomorrow! Have a good night wherever you are!
I've been by --- a couple of times, but had nothing to say.
I see we're running slow again.
Good Morning Everyfriend! And a special "Good Morning, RICK! Looks like everyone is out and about!
I have a picture to post just as soon as I figure out how to separate it from what my DIL sent me yesterday! I guess I'll be back later. I hope all's well with Everyfriend!

Have you tried dragging it to your desktop and post from there?
Good morning
Starting out at 69° with more rain in the forecast. A day of rest here ,a welcomed one.
I do believe the probotics helps with some of Babes problems, finding something she likes to eat is still on going.
Jane, not me..I think the past few days caught up with me and I slept in!!!
Best get the day started.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good morrning Bubble ..
Good morning anyone. Starting off hot again - 82° and humid. We did get some nice rain yesterday but it only cooled us for an hour or so.
All's quiet around here/ Every one must be sleeping late or on vacation. ----- But quiet is just fine.
Just came back from checking on Callie cat. Owner said she has been hiding a lot lately so don't expect to see her but every time I have go in she meets me at the door! I have no idea on how she hears me as I walk on the grass then unlock the door.???
Noticed the swallows have vacated thier nest and are flying about. While I was gassing up the lawnmower they told me to hurry and get out of their nesting area!
Good morning, another hot one for us, with smoky haze from the McDonald's fire.
Amy, Farrah is sick again, same symptoms and the third time for this particular one. She doesn't eat, stays hidden and usually seems better after three days. I can only keep an eye on her.
Patricia, email sent..
It is a very HOT Sunday.....and there is a week more of this same temperatures to come. Bad news is once it leaves us here in Colorado it heads East to make you all miserable too. Of course we do not have the high humidity to go along with it and I am very thankful for that.
We are getting ready to go to our son's home for dinner. We get together almost every Sunday and it is wonderful.
AMY, good to read that you feel the probiotics are helping Babe.
JANE, looking forward to seeing your pictures when you can find them and get them posted.
Our Boston Family got out of Dodge just in time to miss the awful heat wave. They are in Iceland with winter gear on exploring cave. We sure enjoy the pictures they are sharing.
PATRICIA, I am sorry Farrah is not feeling well again🙏
My brother just called....his wife fell and broke her hip and is in surgery. They are in the process of preparing for a move😢😩
Enjoy the rest of your Sunday EVERYFRIEND🦋

Good Morning Everyfriend!
Thanks m million, BUBBLE for posting my kids for me!
I'll be back later. Keep on keeping on!
Good morning..
Interesting day yesterday. Neighbour called to say a rather mangy fox had come into our yard. When I went out it had moved on to the next door neighbours. Not sure where it will be this morning but every time the dogs needed out I went with them.
Our power bliped in the night and now we have blinkin clocks. :(
Washing floors is one of many jobs to do today..
Jane, loved the photo!! You my dear lady are surrounded in love.
Jenny, our heat wave broke and we have had a lot of welcomed rain. High winds also the past two days.
Rick ,we are starting off at 58° and we just may see sun so that will end up a humid day here.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
We're getting a break today - not to go above the 80's. But tomorrow looks like we're back to the 90's. Looks like we'll be supporting the Power Company for a couple of more days.
Good morning everyone, I hope everyone has a good day, we're going into the mid to late eighties, perhaps nineties today. The skies are filled with smoke as we're surrounded by different fires, so a typical Alaskan Interior summer.
Farrah is back over her upset, and I'm relieved to see it, as it was my fault. I spoke to the vet yesterday and learned the minimal, bits of cheddar I gave her were at fault.
From the info the vet sent me," However, many—perhaps most —cats either have lactose intolerance or an allergy to dairy products. This means that quite a few adult cats will experience gastrointestinal upset such as vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, or gas after eating only a small amount of milk or cheese. Unfortunately, this means that these cats shouldn't be fed any dairy products at all."
Amy, you are smart to watch out for them. We don't have your typical red fox, ours are either black, or gray and black. However, it's extremely rare to see one inside the city limits. In the suburbs or across one of the rivers, it's a different story.
I'd love to see more rain here, it's so smoky that you can't even open a window or door without your eyes burning.
Jane, thanks for the lovely photo, and Bubble, thanks for posting for Jane, You're an unsung hero with all you do for us.
Jenny, so nice to hear from you and sorry to hear about your sister-in-law.
Rick, try to stay cool.
Patricia, good to hear Farrah is back to her ol self.. We sure worry about our furkids when thaey are under the weather.
Grass is cut ,just need to do the trimming and that may happen tomorrow..maybe :))
Good Night Everyfriend! I'm off to the haystack!
I'm glad Farah is feeling better, too. It's a worry when our "friends" are ailing!
Goodnight, and goodnight Mrs Calabash, wherever you are.
Good morning..
Starting off at 50°, sure hope it has a slow crawl up the thermometer. Taking van in for final work on a/c this morning. Neighbour is bringing me home then taking back to pick it up. Then home to wrangle dust kangaroos and wash floors.
Babe is back to being picky eating so it is back to the drawing board to see just what might tickle her fancy.
ENjoy your day and stay safe
Good Morning Everyfriend! I'm up and attem! Cooper arrived; we took a walk; he ha ate his breakfast and he's out in the yard checking things out.
Cindy is up and at her job on my dining room table already! I hope her clients appreciate all the time she puts in for them!
We have to make a quick trip to town and a quick stop at the CVS store on the way back!
AMY, I hope your car has learned how to behave itself after it's trip to the fixer-upper!
Hello to Everyfriend and I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow! Make it your own in every way and don't forget to tell us how you did that!
Taking a break...the morning took on a different tune. We left here only to be told of road closure ahead and to take a different route! What they didnt say the secondary road was twisty and flooded over in places....oh fun!
Floors are done now to do the grass trimming..then I think the afternoon may be free! :)
Good morning, another hot smoky day for us again. Although late yesterday afternoon, we did get a twenty-minute hard downpour. The smoke has tinned a bit, enough to see some pale blue washes in the background.
Farrah is back to normal, I appreciated the vet emailing me back yesterday with a longer list of what not to feed your cat and local yard plants that are poisonous as well.
I'm almost ready for the inspection on the 27th. My apartment, except for the bathroom, today's task, is looking nice, re-organized and clean. It's remarkable how much larger it looks now... :-[
Good Morning to Everyfriend! I'm up and attem but I don't have Cooper today. Frankie has the day off. She did say she might be by later and that probably means Cooper will hang around here while she makes a trip to the grocery store. She was going to go after work yesterday but she changed her mind. I'm thinking what I might need to have her pick up for me is she does go....probably nothing because Cindy is going to make a trip this morning and she's getting a couple things I need!
PATRICIA, that inspection time that you have for your apartments must keep everyone on the ball! I guess it's a good idea especially for people who are inclined to let things go!
AMY, how was your afternoon "off"? I bet you can't say because you didn't take it "off"! You always seem to find something to keep you busy!
I need to go get dressed. When Cooper doesn't come I'm a bit lazy about that. My bed is made and i'm having breakfast in front of the computer. Cindy is already at work at her computer! After I get dressed, I think I'll take a short walk! I don't get enough steps in when I don't do doggie walks! Have a good day Everyfriend and don't forget to share it with us! We miss you when we don't "see" you!
Good morning...
Another lovely day in the making ,sunny with a temp of 65° to a high of 73°. With the rain we have had no watering the plants but it is making the grass grow!
Today is going to be a lazy catch up on jobs day. Need to go into town to pick up a few things before the long weekend crowds get here and pay a bill.
Neighbour took me in to pick up our van....a/c is now working in front and back!! Wallet is crying but we need the a/c in back for the dogs. I do think of all the fabric I could buy for that amount of money and know I wouldn't be able to carry it out of the store!
Jane, I did coast a bit, did laundry and pulled a few weeds and found something that Babe would eat!! Talked with David and he was just coming through or going from Williamsport..is that near you?
Patricia, tomorrow is the big day and I would say you are more than ready for the inspection.Happy to read Farrah is back to her ol self.
Rick, are you still under the heat dome?
Phyllis, any word on how the repairs are going?
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
AMY, Williamsport is about a 25 minute drive from my house. I was born there and for 8 years, my dad drove to Lewisburg to work and then they finally decided it was time to move to Lewisburg. It was about a month before my 12th birthday when we moved here. If he went through Williamsport, he probably passed Lewisburg!
Not bad outside now, and later we get a big storm - predicted. So now it looks like today is the last of the 90's for a while. Maybe I'll be able to give the A/C's a rest. The grass is now a nice brown mat. Since I can't do the lawn care any more I have a "Lawn Care" guy that does it. Being they mow grass in other places they bring in weeds from them on the mower. So I gave up as to having a nice lawn. Later today they are supposed to trim the hedges. It's all just survival now.
Good morning, another hot smoky day here with little end in sight, It's been our new normal these past few years.
Jane, the people coming in from the capital are more of a "got ya day" for management than tenants. We've always had to call an automated answering machine to leave maintenance notices. So when they send a notice of inspection beforehand, they want everyone to re input their maintenance calls. There are seven residential buildings along with the other state buildings in the city, so we're not always top of the list.
My issue is that when these every three-year state structural inspections come up, I always tend to go overboard on some big project. This year, with a two-week notice, I decided to totally revamp and re-arrange my apartment. Then, when the group comes through, it is usually a five to ten minute sweep, a nod and a "this looks nice." and out they go again. I do this or something similar every time, as if it's a challenge.
Amy, we're expecting ninety degrees today, and those fires on military land have made it difficult to be outside for many. I know my eyes burn, so I cannot even open a slider until evening, if then.
I'm glad your AC is working again, and that Babe is not being as persnickety about her food.
I finished my re-arranging so now, I need to head downtown, possibly Monday for groceries.
Yesterday, they had what, I believe, was a pile driver going most of the afternoon at that building demolition, a block down. They said it would take until October thirty-first for a full demo of the block long building.
Farrah is definitely back to her old self. I was awakened this morning at five to find her face three inches from mine. Evidently, she wanted an early breakfast.
Phyllis, how are the roof repairs going?
Rick, that's too bad about your yard. Since they took out all the trees on this side of the building, everything in sight is houses, cars and concrete.
Repairs are going along slowly, Amy. The roofer was here today evaluating what is needed to do everything including replacing damaged roof and sub roof, facia and shingles, gutters, and painting, but he won't start the actual work for another 7 to 10 days. It is a long process and unbelievably expensive. The insurance covered some but not all of it
and withore and more storms it could happen again.
Phyllis, I agree on expensive. We had part of the garage roof done this year and hokey smokes it was a lot! In "our" day we would have done it ourselves but age and health factors have put a stop to that. Why is is we pay insurance but when it comes to collect they have a tight fist??
Patricia, we are sitting at 74° at the moment with a beautiful breeze......please don't share your hot weather. :)
Just stopping by to say Good Night! We had some hard rain today and now our temp is down to 71 and only heading for a high of 80 tomorrow! I'm in favor of that! The high 80s to mid to high 90s is BAD! I have to be ready for Coopers arrival at 7 tomorrow and for Cindy's departure at 7:30. I'm going to miss her something fierce! I sure wish they lived closer. She's got most of her stuff packed up in the car and ready to take off! DARN! DARN! DARN!
I wish you all a good night and a good tomorrow! Make it your own in every way and don't forget to share it with us! We miss you when you don't show up!
Jane, - That hard rain is headed this ay. WWe've had a "Severe Thunderstorm" warning a while ago. We could use the rain but it should be nice easy rain.
Good Morning Everyfriend! It's getting on toward's Cooper's arrival and Cindy's departure! Cindy and Frankie are exchanging hugs this morning so I have to make sure Cindy is up and about before Frankie gets here! I'll be back later to see what's going on here! Enjoy your day!
Good morning...
Bright sunny day here with a starting temp of 50°........nice!
Crows brought their babies to eat for the first time!! Fun watching the babies try to get mom or dod to feed them but they just show the kids how to peck at the food (corn) and hope they do the same.
Work around home today, might make some windows giggle.
Jane get in the middle and get a group hug!!
Patricia, still smokey your way?
Rick , I agree no storms please just a gentle rain..
Bubble, any more photos of Lynn to share?
Better go on with the day before the heat arrives.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good morning all, and a scratch for Cooper. I had a new visitor for this morning's wildlife feeding. A chipmunk came by repeatedly for peanuts. Fun to watch them.
RICK, Cooper said "AHHHHH! Thanks for the scratch!"
Good morning, It's to be another hot one today with a dense smoke advisory and a fire generated weather pattern of high wind gusts and lightening. The forecast is for 88 today but possibly higher.
Today is also the inspection, they did the first thee floors yesterday and Wednesday and will finish the fourth and fifth today. They're due to fly home Saturday and I imagine that flight will be interesting, flying over the fires.
Jane, It will be bittersweet to have Cindy leaving this morning, but you will have Cooper to cheer you up and keep you moving, getting those steps in. I have a phone app, Habo, for habit tracker that I use, basic, and I only use the features I need to track any habits. One of them is movement, and another is for fruit and vegetables daily.
Rick, I wish we were allowed to feed the critters, but management complains about white streaks and other messes on the building. We do see the city pigeons and a few smaller birds, but that's all. I understand that the bird refuge, west of us, is getting a few avian fire refugees as well.
Amy, "There are 6 types of crows in Southeast Alaska and these include Black-billed Magpies, American Crows, Steller's Jays, Canada Jays, and Clark's Nutcrackers." I'm not sure if they have the correct information as those aren't all crows. But we do have separate types of species between the Southeast, Interior and North Slope.
A couple of examples is bald eagles are plentiful in the Southeast but not here. We have the Golden Eagles instead. They have red foxes and our foxes are black or black and gray. Even the black and grizzlies are different types of the same animal or animal species. We have ravens but no crows. Our ravens spend the winter here and the summers in the cooler mountains.
Today, I have no plans other than to wave at the inspectors as they weave their way though, but, I'm debating if I should grocery shop tomorrow or leave that until Monday. Such an exciting life I lead, with so many important decisions...

Anyone still up? --------- If so, goodnight.
I'm up and having my breakfast and coffee. This is Frankie's early day at work so Cooper will be arrivingin about 15 or so minutes. I'm ready for him and still missing the kids being around! The is off and running! I'll try to come back later to see what's happening. Have a great day, Everyfriend!
Good morning...
Temp is 43° out....great sleeping weather!
Going into town to pick up a new med for Kyle to try..I sure hope this one along with the plethora of ones he does take, works.
Company coming later on today so need to tidy up a bit and chase the dust kangaroos.
Jane, it would seem quiet around your home now.
Rick ,good morning.
Patricia, inspection over with for another year!!
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Jane, I forgot to mention ,your rhubarb pineapple juice is perfect for the hot weather!! I mix it with some ginger ale..!
Looks like a nice one today. Starting at about 65°, sunny and calm. The chipmunk came back again. I think he has found a new restaurant.
AMY, I never thought of mixing the rhubarb juice with anything fizzy! I'll have to try that!
Cathy is coming by in a bit to get my grocery list and do some shopping for me while she does her own. It works for me! Sometimes I enjoy shopping...sometimes I don't. Today is a "don't" day!
Rick, keep that "restaurant" open for that chipmunk! He's probably happy to have one that accommodates him!
I'm taking today off. My eyes decided to give me trouble! They don't want to see little stuff! So Cooper is getting lots of attention. I can see him fine!
I am going to make up some dinners for the freezer. And I got some good news this week. My cousin who lives in California will be visiting his brother in Maryland and he's renting a car and driving up here for a visit with me in the middle of July. This will be his third visit and he's spending the night. We grew up near each other but he's been in California most of his married life. He's a minister and that's where they sent him early on!
Gotta go! Enjoy the rest of your day. We have a cool one today. I'm actually wearing a sweat shirt. It's in the mid 60s! Make it a good one!
Good morning, 62 and gray, smoky and smelly inside and out, and heading back to the eighties today. We had the high wind gusts yesterday evening, but none of the fire generated, forecasted lightening. There are shelters in town for those with respiratory emergencies, and those afflicted are asked to stay indoors.
I had my inspection yesterday afternoon, and I'm good for another three years. Plus, I got a cleaner house and a new re-arrangement out of a ten-minute visit. I'm hoping to keep it that way and not to fall back into old habits.
I'm heading for the haystack pretty soon. I've been hearing fireworks for the last half hour but I suspect that once i take my ear batteries out, I won't hear them any more. There are supposed to be a lot more tomorrow. Both my doggies would head under my desk when the fireworks were going off. They did NOT like them at all!
I wish you all a good night and a happy tomorrow! Cooper will be here a little before 7 tomorrow and then she has the weekend off so I won't have him until Monday! Sleep well and wakke refreshed!
Good morning...
Rain during the night....lets me out of a job.. :cheer:
Work around home ,you know doing fun "stuff" laundry, cleaning and meal planning.
Jane, as you know Babe does not like fireworks or storms. I do have some Remedy to give her if need be.
Patricia, if you wish to keep in practice you can come here and keep up the momentum
Rick, does your Chippy like just peanuts or will he eat other things also?
Time to get the day rolling..
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning AMY and anyone else who appears!
My day is on the way! I got up, made coffee, drank some with my breakfast and met Cooper a little before 7! We took a walk and then he ate his morning meal. Right now he's resting up so he can go out in the yard and bark at anything that moves! I have my bed stripped, the sheets in the dryer and the blanket in the washer. Gonna be a busy day!
I sure do miss the Oklahoma kids! But I did hear from them!
I hope you all have a good day! Make it your own in every way! And don't forget to stop by and check in with us. We miss you when you stay away!
Quote from: Amy on June 29, 2024, 07:05:29 AMRick, does your Chippy like just peanuts or will he eat other things also?
He (it) joins the birds eating seed - sunflower and other small seed. But seems to prefer the peanuts. Easier to gather and take back to his hideaway.
Good morning, the smoke is denser and smelly even with the window and slide closed. People are urged to remain indoors if possible. The oft promised rain is promised again for this afternoon and evening. We have Californian and Idahoan smoke jumpers and other firefighters here fighting the various fires, in our area and while we've had some evacuations in outer areas along the Elliot Highway, nothing closer.
Amy, how about you cook and I'll clean? Plus, I'll love up Babe for you. ;)
Rick , is it just one chipmunk? They can be entertaining to watch!
Patricia, that works for me!! I am back to trying to enticing Babe back to eat so your job may be trying at times.
Beautiful rain here....makes my life easier until the grass grows. :))
Quote from: Amy on June 29, 2024, 12:55:01 PMRick , is it just one chipmunk? They can be entertaining to watch!
I think it's just one, but it is hard to tell them apart. There's also a couple across the street - saw them running around one day.
Rick, we used to see a lot of chipmunks but now red squirrels are what we see. I don't know if the two co-exist or not...will check into that.
We also have squirrels, but not the red ones. Black and gray, and they seem to get along with the other wild life.
I got my answer..
Do squirrels and chipmunks like each other?
Squirrels Vs. Chipmunks: How Different Are They Exactly (2024 ...
Sure, chipmunks are members of the squirrel family, Sciuridae, but that's where the similarities end. While they might be neighbors in the grand scheme of things, sharing the family tree with prairie dogs, woodchucks, and marmots, these two are like distant cousins who don't really get along
The squirrels are so much bigger than the chipmunks. Also, the chipmunks, at least around here, live in the ground, or burrow in through stone walls and the like. Whereas the squirrels are always up a tree. I haven't seen that they fight or chase each other.
In the Interior, we have Red squirrels, flying squirrels, and Arctic ground squirrels. There are no chipmunks in the Interior, but there are Siberian chipmunks in the Southeast.
When Cindy was here, she glanced out the window and then said, "there's a squirrel hanging on the bird feeder. It's a two sided one and somehow he got up there and was hanging on the top of the one side and eating out of the bird feeder. We've got to watching every day and he does it every day. I even tossed some seed on the groung and he ignored it. It did draw some birds that think they're too big for the feeder! But he still goes up and works for his!
I'm off to the haystack in a few minutes! And boy am I ever ready today! I'm tired right down to my bare toes! I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow! please come by and share your day with us. We miss you when you don'g!
Thunderous Ship Horn Startles Duluth Crowd in Dense Fog;
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_tnIezrKvRI
Good morning..
LOTS of rain last night peppered with fireworks in between.
A day of rest here...I did practise yesterday for this so I should have it down pat for today.
Patricia ,thank you for the video will watch it while having my tea.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Patricia, that ship was amazing! Thank you for sharing.
We usually have a two or three week Crescendo of fireworks, tapering off quickly after the 4th. It's been quiet this year --- what's up?
Good morning, nothing new here, still none of that promised rain, denser smoke, and it smells smoky inside and out.
Rick Central New York has a couple of severe weather alerts that may have something to do with it.
Thanks, Amy, that brought back memories of MaryAnn, Norm's sister who was from there.
I think of MaryAnn, occasionally, when I see something particularly noteworthy on the St. Clair and Duluth live cams. You should see some of the ones coming up by Marine City that have a sea fog just over the river. It is really spooky to see the ships with the lower parts disappearing into the fog. The best shot I saw was one of the barge/tugs where one of the crew stood at the bow looking out ahead of the ship. Very little of the barge was visible below the main deck.
Good Night Everyfriend! I'm off to the haystack! Today was a busy day and I'm tired and ready for the sack! I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow. I'll be up and attem early so I can be ready to meet Cooper when he arrives a bit before 7! I'll see you in the A.M!
