Love, love, love
Love, love, love
Love, love, love

Nothing you can sing that can't be sung
Nothing you can say, but you can learn how to play the game
It's easy

Nothing you can make that can't be made
No one you can save that can't be saved
Nothing you can do, but you can learn how to be you in time
It's easy

All you need is love
All you need is love

There's nowhere you can be that isn't where you're meant to be

For 50 million years our biggest problems were too few calories, too little information. For about 50 years our biggest problem has been too many calories, too much information. We have to adjust, and I believe we will really fast. I also believe it will be wicked ugly while we're adjusting.

Bubble , thank you for the new start!

Another  damp cold day on the way out. Managed to get some work and some play (sewing) done.

Patricia, please don't  share  the snow!

Rick, Nice, that all the heavy trucks have gone and left you with a new road.

Good morning

We may see sun this afternoon....maybe.

Work around home today a bit of cleaning and doing some baking.

Patricia, your snow stopped in Alberta, they received 11 inches! This will be good for their fields and is as good as fertilizer!

Callie,I just asked David to find out and when he gets back to me I will let you know.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Nice to see a quote from Penn Jillette although I only ever read the "back-page" columns he wrote for PC/Computing Magazine back between 1990 and 1994. He also did some columns for the web version of PC/Computing in 1997, but I missed those. A man of many interest and talents.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm safely in Oklahoma and the tornadoes went around Cindy and my granddaughter.  However, the rain did a number on Ali's flowers and she's thinking she might not have any to sell this week!  We're hoping for it to dry up a bit and that they will raise their heads in time for the weekend.  I guress the rain was the outskirts of the tornadoes.  Darn!

I read all the posts but my memory isn't great so I'm not going to try to comment on them.  I'll be back later.  My PA daughter and my Maryland daughter are both here and it's nice to see all three girls visiting with one another.  Last night. Ali and her husband and 3 kids joined us for supper and spent some of the evening playing with us.  They've all grown so much and I got my hugs all around.  Jim said that Mikey announced my arrival as soon as he saw Cindy's car in the driveway.  and I didn't have to wait for my hug this time!  I even got one from the little guy!  He's super friendly!  And of course Emma was right there with her hugs!  L love these kids and I'm going to enjoy having them around!

Back soo...make your day a good one!

Jane, I was happy to read that you arrived and the horrible storms missed you.  Sounds like a wonderful family gathering and I know YOU will enjoy everyone being together.  Hope this weather settles down for the rest of your stay.
Doesn't look good for us to get together.  :(  but we'll see how the month of May goes.

It was as dark as midnight when I woke up at 8:00 a.m. this morning.  Weather gurus were tracking a storm but it apparently missed my area. My "hidey-hole" is a corner of a closet right behind the shower and I've left it arranged "for the duration".

Sun is shining now.  So happy that son/I did errands and got plants for my "pot garden" yesterday - and he planted all of the eleven pots!! Now I have color on my patio and in the yard around the bird feeders.  :)

Have some Desk Work to do today and may put something in the Slow Cooker for "later".

Enjoy your day, Everyfriend.

Good morning, 36 and another cloudy day. I've been cleaning and prepping for a few re-arranging in some areas, and will probably dive into more of that today.

Jane, I'm glad you arrived safe and sound and glad you and your family missed those horrible tornados and severe damage.

Callie, those flowers must look lovely.

I'm also glad you missed the tornados, too. Those terrible photos and videos I've seen, especially the one about the two brothers being catapulted into the air end over end. I cannot imagine the destruction and loss.

Amy, the snow missed us and stayed above the 17,000-foot level in the mountains. We barely had enough rain to dampen the pavement. Tomorrow, temperatures are forecasted to begin climbing again, after today's expected high of only 48.

Evidently, the expected snow stopped in Alberta instead of continuing on to us.

I'm glad your son sent you the photo of Jane and her daughter.

May everyone's Mayday be pleasant, and the rest of the week too! I remember in Kindergarten we had ribbons attached to a long pole which we danced around and put on a show for our parents and the rest of the school. Do they still do that, I wonder, for the first of May.

Patricia, we have reached a high of 60° and the sun said hello!

Finished baking and put some buttertarts in the hidey hole.  made pearl tapioca pudding  ,that is cooling off now. Do you remember when we could get the large tapioca/sago? Might find hens teeth sooner than a bag of large tapioca.

Gosh, all kinds of things going on while I have been concentrating on other things.  Glad that Jane arrived safely and that she and all her family are safe from the trip and from the storms.  Too bad about her daughter's flowers but they will recover while lost lives will not.  Still, it is upsetting to lose so much work and time spent and beauty.

Callie, I'm glad you are OK, as well.  Thought about you when I heard about the storms.  When Tom and I bought this house almost 40 years ago we were delighted to have a full basement, rare in No. Carolina, and that is the hidey hole.  Thank goodness, it hasn't been necessary to run for the "root cellar" (as my son calls it) for a long time.  We had a brief shower last night but are in an "unusually" dry spell now and people are beginning to worry about forest fires.

Patricia, we danced around the Maypole, too.  We chose a Queen of May and made dandelion necklaces for her and ourselves.

Amy, my three older brothers convinced me that I was eating frog's eyes when Mother made tapioca pudding.  Still don't like it after 94 years.   ::)

Take care, All.

well I'm going to try this again1  We are having a great visit.  The little guy only took a couple of hours to give me my first hug!  He's such a sweetie!  And it nice to watch my three daughters visit with one another!  they talk almost continually!  Somehow, I managed to raise a family that loves one another!

We're getting ready to go somewhere later this morning.  I don't know where.  I just tag along because I like the "togetherness"!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!  Make it your own in every way!

Good morning, 34 degrees after a chilly night, but we are to begin warming today. Meet and greets, morning chores, everyone fed and coffee's ready, so here I am.

Amy, we were promised more rain and a little snow mixed in but, we have seen none since that first little bit of rain yesterday. Now they're promising rain on Monday.

Alaska saw its first tornado, a landspout, near Wolverine Peak in Chugach State Park on April 19th. It was in a remote, uninhabited area, according to the National Weather service.

I was wrong, this is what the news had to say, "Landspout tornado spotted near Rusty Point on April 19th!
These events, while not rare, go mostly unnoticed due to our topographically diverse area."

I believe this will be a cool summer, judging by its chilly Spring start. According to AccuWeather, we won't see the seventies until late June. It wasn't that long ago that we expected the snow to be gone by Easter and hiding outside eggs for the kids in shorts, thongs, and a tee.

Phyllis, We had a huge Mayday celebration in the school's primary grades, but at home, it was all about cleaning the house from top to bottom, and preparing the summer garden. Everyone worked, parents, kids, animals, back in those days before statehood and few conveniences.

Jane, it's nice to hear about you, your daughters, and the little ones. My sister and my niece live 16,646 miles from me, in Idaho, and my 34 married niece I haven't seen since she was four. And she and her husband have no plans for kids.

The Raung supervolcano, which has been ongoing since April 16, is spouting enough gases into the upper atmosphere to cool the earth this year. I haven't seen any predictions on how much cooling the scientists expect. It depends on how much and how long it keeps going. Last I saw, it is still going strong. This is from a couple of days ago. Pretty spectacular. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HcLLe9HQTwk

Good Morning Everyfriend1  I just sent a picture of my daughters and me to BUbbLE to ask her to post.  It's the first of some to come.  We went to a flower show that granddaughter Ali was part of yesterday.  The flowers were gorgeous1  And the people who ran it did a great job1

AMY, it's nice to see the flower's bloom but it's still cold nights in Oklahoma1  The days are getting warm.   and it's going to be hard to see the two daughter leave for home on Saturday.  It's been such fun watching the communicate this week.  I don't always hear everything but I love watching them!

PATRICIA, your family is really separated1  Have they ever visited Alaska1

Guess I better get moving.  I don't want to miss the togetherness1  Have a great day Everyfriend1  Make it your own in every way1  And don't forget to share it with us

Good morning, 41 degrees and sunny presently, I will be spending sometime downtown today shopping with friends, which will be nice.

Jane, My sisters and I were born and raised in Alaska, although we left via marriage or other reasons in the sixties and seventies. I returned and my one sister visited once or twice with her daughter. I've been back and forth, but prefer where I'm at.

They had a birthday party for me at Ali's house tonight.  We brought a cake with us and dinner was ready when we got there.  It was great!

I'm beat right down to my bare toes tonight and I'm ready to hit the hay!  Christy and Cathy are both heading for home tomorrow.  They will be on separate planes leaving within one hour of each other from the same airport and arriving at different airports when they get home.  Christy will be in Maryland and Cathy will be in Pennsylvania.  I'm going to miss the togetherness we had this week!

Emma is spending the night with us tonight and that means she'll be here a good part of the day tomorrow!  She has a good vibe with both her aunties and also with her GG.  I better get myself ready for bed pretty soon.  It's been a busy day and I'm ready for the haystack!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  Be sure you stop by and share it with us!

And a good morning to all!

Jane, I am enjoying your reports and pix. Looks like Cathy will be coming back to some rain. The temps have cooled down and we will get the rain all day and over night at least. Looks like more to come tomorrow.

I dispatched my first creepy-crawly here at the apartment, a centipede, the other day and a little one this morning. Got to small beetles of some sort in the bathroom night before and yesterday morning. Looks like it is time to get some bug spray. I didn't bring any with me from the house. I rarely used it at the house. There, I had mostly ants, spiders and those dad-blasted fruit flies and gnats. What I did use on occasion was a pet friendly contact stray that the Terminix guy gave me which smelled mostly like rosemary. It killed on contact and repelled the others for several days.

My first grocery order under the new program at Giant Foods arrived on Thursday. They dumped their Giant Direct/PeaPod trucks and drivers in this area and are going with InstaCart people to deliver. Also, they have switched from plastic bags to nice paper bags with handles. The drivers are using their own cars, so they are taking the brunt on car wear and tear, and the gas and insurance. Wonder if they are being given any kind of an expense allowance for that. No ice chests for the frozen stuff, though. I noticed an immediate decrease in online prices which surprised me. Wonder if it will last. I expect to switch back to doing my own grocery shopping when this membership year expires since the grocery stores are all very close and easy to get to. Well, I certainly need the exercise.

Good morning...

Muggy here, more rain in the forecast. Yesterdays rain hardly wet the pavement.

Nothing new here just catch up and see if I can put the quilt blocks together.

MG what about those sticky traps? When we had a probelm wih ants I used those and they seemed to work well. Putting them where the dogs couldn't get at trhem was interesting so I would imagine it would be the same with cats.

Jane, sounds like you are really enjoying your time there and the youngin's will have lots of hugs for you.

Rick, thank you for turning the lights out. There are some good shows on the history channel to watch.  I also enjoy the abandoned buildings and what they have been used for in the past...interesting.

Better put an egg in my boot and beat it......oh that reminds me I also need eggs!

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

A long time ago, someone told me to spread cinnamon sticks where the ants and other bugs seem to be coming in.  I do that every Spring and I have NO ants or bugs under on on the cupboards in the kitchen any more.  And it smells good too!

Emma spent the night here last night.  She slept in the upper bunk above Cathy's bed and she did great.  They were on the other side of the bathroom between us and I didn't hear a peep all night.  She's such a sweetie and she has so much to talk about!

They are all going to the ZOO this morning and then to the airport.  I opted out of that trip and I'll do my goodbyes when they leave here!

I hope you all have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Jane, in the fall the mice like to come in, someone told me to put Irish Spring soap around. Must have  put 10  - 2 bars around in the basement but all it did was make the mice holler for a towel to go with the soap! Then someone said to put peppermint as they don't like the smell of that..so that will be tried this fall. We don't get many but like flies I don't want any..........and they had better not holler for chocolate  on the peppermint!!

Laundry calling..

MG, I just saw this and thought it might be another pest avenue for you to try?

Another bug we don't have, thankfully. Those cold winters are, at times, a blessing.

They also had an article about earwigs, a bug we thankfully don't have, but it looks gross.

I looked up a list of common household insect pests in Alaska, and prominent on the list is a cockroach, which we don't have in the Arctic. It may be in the southeast because they don't have the severe winters that we do, which is why rabies is found in the Southeast but rare in the Arctic.

Bedbugs and mosquitos we have. Locally, the city library had to close down for two months while they eradicated bed bugs in 2019. In 2020, this building had them, which was traced to a guy on the bottom floor dragging in an infected couch from the across the street's garbage container.

We had to go floor by floor, bagging stuff up. Putting it on the balcony and leaving our apartments for hours while they sprayed. I never saw one, but the pest control guy said they travel through the walls and come out via overhead lights, electrical plates and sprinkler systems.

Then we had to rewash everything, vacuum, clean and replace the furnishing and the furniture. I remember I came down with eczema and hives and paranoia during that entire time.

The next three are butterflies, bees and beetles, all common. Then come black ants such as carpenter ants, which burrow into and destroy the wood in houses.

Hover flies, again, another I've never heard of, perhaps in the Southeast?

We do have fruit flies, sticky strips work with those and plant gnats, drain gnats and various gnats that come in via commercial plant soil. I solved my problem with that by keeping a 33 gal tub on the balcony with a lid, rubber gloves and plastic disposable silverware. Put the dirt in the tub, carefully pour in the granular beads and mix thoroughly with gloves on and using plastic spoons and forks. Place the lid back on, repeating the procedure every day for a week. You can then repot your plants. This is only for your ornamental plants.

You will need to soak your food bearing plants in a mixture of Apple cider vinegar and 99% alcohol. Then rinse thoroughly before repotting and bringing them back inside. I do the same treatment with any incoming fruit, bananas, apples, and berries.

I also read that non-native fleas, ticks and Asian ladybugs have been showing up in the state, especially on military bases. So far, nothing here but neither I nor Farrah have been out there much and not in the woods so, so far, so good.

You don't really soak your bananas and berrys in Apple cider vinegar and 99% alcohol, do you?

Yes, I do, as they're sealed in chemicals and lastly sprayed with chemically enhanced shelf extenders. Remember, I am very allergic to chemicals added to food to extend shelf life, so I add a little apple cider vinegar to my soak and when I say soak, I am not talking about an hour or two.

What kind of alcohol do you use?
Title: Re: Soda Shoppe May 1 , 2024
Post by: patricia19 on May 05, 2024, 12:52:19 AM
I do a final rinse with cold water and a cap or two of 99% alcohol. I use a colander, I have a set of three in varying sizes to lower the fruit, get it a good swish or two and shake dry before wrapping it lengthwise into my cotton dishtowel. While that sits, I put a paper towel in the bottom of my dish and then place the fruit inside and snap on the lid before turning to the next.

My dishes go from fridge to freezer. Let me put it this way. Without doing this, I would probably be back in the hospital, with tubes running here and there and every bit of cash running from my pocket to theirs.

FineDine 24 pc. glass storage containers with lids-Leakproof, dishwasher safe, for meal prep or leftovers. They have more than one color and more than one configuration, but these are best for me. I highly recommend them.

I have a severe food allergy, I'm unable to eat fast foods, convenience foods or microwavable food or commercial dried mixes or condensed foods. But even if I could eat regularly, I would still want to wash off the pesticides. Look at it this way, food allergies are the fastest growing allergy among babies and seniors and almost every single day, one food or another is being recalled.

Good morning..

Misty rain falling this morning..

Yesterday was a tad busy. Kyle needed better wheels for his cabinet so off to the store we went. Home brought filling up the generator, lawn mower and little gas can. Laundry and washing/vacuuming the van....that did me in.

Today is a day of rest.  Not sure what will be, I am not happy with the way the quilt is going so may have a date with Jack (the seam ) Ripper and take all the blocks apart.

Patrica, is that rubbing alcohol? Where can one get this a drug store? Allergies are not to be sneezed at (pun intended) We found out that Kyle was allergic to ibuprophen the hard way ending with a quick trip in the ambulance to the hospital. Other folks just have to touch an item , even a frozen packaged one and have a reaction.

Enjoy your day and stay safe

Patricia, - I think I mis-read your original post. To me it sounded like it was all alcohol and vinegar. Not a water solution with that in it.
In my pre twenties I had several food allergies. Groups, like citrus, spices, and some individual foods. White potatoes was one of them, and until I was much into my adult life couldn't eat them, or even peel them. Just peeling a potato would make my hands itch so much that it would make me want to scratch them on anything I could. I still have problems with those seasonal  airborne things (pollen). The food items I have mostly overcome. Melon being one of the remaining ones. Just get a scary itchy throat from that - so avoid it.
Seasonal Trees & grass' will be my next one to contend with.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's pouring in Oklahoma and it's supposed to last all day!  Cindy and I are heading out for the store a bit later because she has to catch up on her work tomorrow!  She took a lot of time off this week while her sisters were here.

Even in the rain I can get my walking in because she has an indoor walker that can be set to whatever speed I want and I can walk as long as I want!  I love it!  But I also love being outside in the weather when I can!

Have a great day Everyfriend!  Make it your own in every way and be sure to come by and share it with us!

Good morning, Meet and greets ran long this morning, and then I had domestic duties, thanks Callie, that term makes it sound so much better than it was, all hustle and bustle. I haven't even made coffee yet, and Farrah is being aggravating, She wants her treat but not her breakfast. This morning's low was 47 degrees, and it's clear and sunny.

Yes, it's alcohol, but sometimes I forget to explain myself and that last rinse is just that, not a deluge and the first soak is more of a swish as in the video. Water is the main ingredient. But I'm zealous in this step and yes, the fruit tastes better and does last longer.

Rick, I know what you're saying, sometimes we have a tendency, and sometimes it's inherited and sometimes out of the blue as mine was, and sometimes we grow out of them.

I think some of us have inherited traits or even tendencies in foods that run in families, I'm always curious if a familial tendency comes from a specific origin such as a region in Europe, Asia, or other.

I had a cousin, Richard, who was very allergic to bees, he took every precaution and expected to go by way of a stray bee, and ended up being in a car accident.

Good Evening,

I actually have a cooking subject to talk about!

Jane, I made the Egg Thingies this afternoon.  Had a muffin pan for big ones so made six. One was a delicious Sunday supper with a dish of  fruit.

How do you...or anyone who's made them... store the leftovers?  I have them in the fridge on a plate covered with clingwrap but that will only do for a short time. Doubt I'll eat another one very soon.

We're getting a short break from storms but tomorrow is supposed to be a High Alert time, This is getting tiresome!

Sleep well and have pleasant dreams. Every Friend  :)

Good morning..

Nice sunny morning here, temp is 37° at the moment. A mixed up day with a Drs appointment this afternoon.

Babe decided she wanted breakfast in bed again, ate a few nibbles and the rest I hand fed her. The dog food is mixed with beef liver and chicken hearts boiled and chopped up and the juice.....do you know how that makes your hand smell? Washing them about 3 times in Dawn dish soap helps :)

Rick, we get Oak Island tonight and it is going to be sad knowing it is the last of the season.

Callie, I believe Jane freezes them but she will be able to tell you just how she does it.

Better get the day started.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  The rain has stopped...finally!  It's not supposed to rain at all today and thank goodness for that!

CALLIE, the EGG THINGYS can be frozen.  I put them in the fridge until they're cold and then I put each one in aplastic sandwich size bag  and freeze them overnight on a plate and then you can pack them however you want them packed to fit your freezer.  I have a square plastic box that most of them fit and that kind of keeps them from damage and ready to serve.  When I know I'm having one the next day, I take it out of the freezer and put it in the fridge ready for breakfast.  It takes about a minute in the microwave to heat it up in the morning.  Quick breakfast!

WE didn't see the kids yesterday!  Ali and Dan were both home and they had a family day,I guess.  But I bet at least one will be here today.  The other two have school and preschool!

AMY, it sounds like your doggie might be taking on her "old age"!  Youre a nice "mama" to look after her like that and see that she gets fed!

I guess I better go get dressed and meet the day!  Cindy has a dr. appt and I'm going to take a walk while she's gone!  I wish you all a good day@  Make it your own in every way....except for the part you share with us!

Good morning, chilly today at only 30 and the rain continues from yesterday. After being in the mid-sixties over the weekend, we were surprised with raining snow on Monday morning. The sleet quickly melted into rain, which is still going on, albeit softer.

I have to go out sometime today for another pot and more planting soil for my rosebush, but other than that, with the week's promise of yet more rain, I'll be staying in.

Jane, hope you could get  what you forgot from home.  thank you, we both will hit the bed early tonight.that is if we can stay awake to do that. :)

Rick, temp is 71° at the moment here. Heading south we noticed just how much further along in growth on the trees than we are.

Patricia,we are to get rain on Thur much nicer than snow.

Putting my feet up and hope I don't go to sleep before bedtime!

They are just starting to leaf out, and will be loaded with small white flowers soon. It's nice that spring is here.

Glad to see that Jane was going shopping today.  Yesterday was so stormy that the weather gurus were on the air from mid-afternoon until way after midnight. There were 9 tornadoes in the state last night - mostly in the Tulsa area north and east from where Jane is. The biggest one (an F4 which has made the national news) was about 49 miles from where she's visiting.

Storms were all around OKC and there was an F1 in south OKC but my area and areas where family lives weren't affected.

Had to cancel all activities planned for yesterday but today was sunny and pleasant so son and I got quite a bit done.

I didn't get to watch "The Voice" last night but enjoyed seeing who made the finals on tonight's show.  Now going to watch "Password".

Well yesterday finished off by losing power, when I checked the hydro site is said an accident had caused 8000+ people to be without power. Thankfully we have a generator and once out of the garage and hooked up we were good to go!

Today is another busy catch up day along with phone calls. Oh for a day of nothing to do..

Callie ,glad all is well there.not a pretty site they showed on the news here.

Rick, I am anxious for the lilacs to bloom here, Mountain Ash is slowly starting to leave out. Rhubarb is just about ready to pick!

Better get this day on the road.

We have had rain off and on today, mostly on!  In between showers I would put food out for crow, give a shrill whistle and they soon would be taking the food away. Won't be too long and they will bring their young to est and that is alawys funny to watch. Babies as big as parents ,wings flapping wanting Mom or Dad to feed them.

Laundry done, baked beans made with a piece of smoked ham the neighbour gave us, refrigerator pickles  done just waiting till they can go in the frigerator. Love that recipe, so easy to whip up.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's a gorgeous day where I am in Oklahoma!  Not too hot yet and I took my walk this morning!  They have a long walkway that's always open and safe and I'm getting to know some of the people who go there when I do....not by name....just by face and we greet one another when we pass!

RICK, we baked chocolate chip cookies for the kids yesterday and I put some in the Soda Shoppe.  Help yourself!

ALI and DAN sold theri house and will be building on the lot where she grows her flowers to  sell.  Right now they are living with Dan's parents and today they are all coming here for dinner.  We'll be busy today!  I love it when the kids come by.  It didn't take the little guy long to start giving me hugs and I love it!

Good morning, it's 42 and partly cloudy here. The Southeast is cold, windy, wet and rainy, and has been for most pf May and expecting no real changes for the rest of May.

On this side of the Alaska Range, we're expecting partly cloudy with an occasional rain shower for the rest of May. The rivers are breaking up, and they've set off small charges here and there to try and prevent some serious ice jamming and floods.

Jane, I'm glad you and your family are safe, and you're enjoying your family and all the little ones you've missed.

Callie, I'm also glad to hear that you and your family remain safe from those horrible tornadoes and their aftermath. I understand that one city has been hit twice with severe tornadoes and damage.

Rick, we no longer see the smaller birds as management cut down all the trees in back and only left a few evergreens on the front side. I'm no longer able to visit the public areas of the small part of the wildlife sanctuary inside the city limits but have heard that many small birds and the swans have already returned.

Amy, I'm sorry that Jesse has to be sedated. One of my neighbors has a small black dog who growls and snaps when his are done; otherwise he's a happy soul.

We are back sooner than thought but that is nice! Have one very sleepy dog and the other one is just resting. No wonder m y legs go to sleep when Jesse is laying on my lap......he is 102lbs!! Everyone loved him and were warned ahead of time that he can't hold his licker and some did get a cleaning. Babe behaved, no muss no fuss, not like she does at home.

Kyle is out cutting grass and I have done the trimming and now to??

Rick, Jane came to your rescue but I have to warn you chcolate chip are one of my favourites......notice I said one.  :)

Patricia, for the most part the morning went well I was to stop at the drug store and get our names on the list for another covid shot but thought tomorrow will be alright to do it. Golden girl would lay right down and let me cut her nails, same with the neighbours dog no problem . These two are another story!

My vet is tall, thin, and very competent. His assistants are usually interning veterinary students, but I don't see him as friendly and not unfriendly. He's doing as much explaining to his intern as to the pet's owner.

I never thought if this was good or bad, simply what I had. There are a number of other vet clinics, but I had one or two issues with the others I've tried.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I had to pack up my computer because we had the whole family for supper last night.  And I never got it out until this morning!

I've taken my walk and had my breakfast.  Cindy is off to the Dr. and a couple of errands on the way home.  And here I am!  I read all the stories about treating the doggies and was reminded of when I took doggies to the vet.  Our first vet was a friend and school mate of mine and his wife was a Girl Scout worker with me.  And all his kids passed through my troops.  Now that office is staffed with 3 lady vets.  I like two of them but prefer not to have the third.

Today is going to be an OFF day.  No kids coming and no company for dinner.  Cindy and I are going todo a short shopping trip this afternoon.  I'm in the market for a new printer but not in a hurry to get one.  I think I want one that prints on both sides of the page and saves some paper. But I'm going to do a lot of looking when we go shopping!

AMY, Cooper is a licker doggie too!  If I sit down and start petting him, he always returns it with his tongue!

I'm sure glad the tornadoes passed over us and I'm sorry for those that got hit.  It must be awful to lose everything and sometimes life in that kind of weather!

Guess I better see what needs doing!  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!  Be sure to share it with us.

Good morning, 40 degrees and sunny presently, I've fed Farrah, made some coffee, had my meet and greets and did my morning chores. So, here I am.

Amy, there are three main vets in the city and a couple of large animal vets. None of them seem less than professional, and none of them seem to suffer fools, either the human or animal variety, gladly. It is what it is, no matter how we might wish otherwise.

Jane, enjoy your day of rest and your shopping.

Hello Everyfriend!  Today didn't turn out to be a 'slow" day after all!  Ali showed up with the two boys and we all had lunch together and then we went to the biggest greenhouse I've ever been in!  I was in one at home with my DIL that I thought was pretty big but I'd say this one was AT LEAST 5 times bigger!  I couldn't close my eyes!  They kept seeing more and more!  And then they saw more and more and more and more!

On the way home, Cindy and I stopped and did some shopping....well, she bought and I shopped!  I saw a lot of nice things but I held onto my money!  At this age, I have to really need it to reach into my pocket!

We came home and did a bit of reading, then had supper and now I'm ready for the haystack!  I'm tired right down to my ugly toenails!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  Be sure to stop back and share the day with us.  We miss you if you don't!

Another lovely day here, sun is awake with white wispy clouds  not the rain clouds they were calling for.

Ususal chores this morning,  then try to get the trugs ready for planting.Have most of the seeds and bought two kinds of tomato plants that will be shared with our neighbour. Just need constant weather to warm the soil.

Jane, I bet that was  lovely to walk amongst all the plants!! A lot of eye candy to see!

Patricia, the farm vets  ,all but one were amazing. The one that was checking
Pansy (Jersy cow) out was rough with her. She did get pay back though when he checked at the back and she deposited some hot steamy cow patties in his coveralls.

Good morning, another partly cloudy day, 44 degrees at 8:44. I repotted two more of my plants yesterday, and I am debating about doing five more. Of course, that would necessitate another trip to purchase more, and I'm ambivalent about that.

Tome, my meet and greets are a group of old friends, some of whom I've known for forty years. For a long time, we've visited, played cards, partied, gone upriver, and seen our kids play together. Then Covid and age struck, and that group has narrowed to nine.

We began calling and texting each morning as a way of keeping in touch and looking out for each other. After covid, we stopped, but the women missed it, and we started up again. Then the men joined in again. And that is our way of staying close.

Jane, I'm glad you're enjoying your trip and the little ones! As Amy, said, those flowers sound wonderful, what an experience to have!

Amy, we're up to 18 hours and 20 minutes of daylight with sunrise at 4:38 and sunset at 10:58, so people are, again, out at all hours.

Good for Pansy! She let that vet know just how she felt about his roughness.

The rains are expected back tomorrow. It has been raining, two days of possibles and then rain again. We are about twenty degrees colder than average.

Well imagine my surprise and delight to open up and see LLOYD's post!  Welcome back dear friend!

We had a busy day today!  Dan went to the flower garden with Ali to help her get it in shape after all the rain and Cindy and I went over and watched the kids.  That was really fun but we both came home exhausted!  I do it again  in a minute!  But I bet we'll both sleep well tonight!  I don't have a clue what's on the agenda for tomorrow but whatever it it, I'm going to love it!

Now I'm ready for the haystack!  When I finish here and do a couple odd jobs I'm going to find a soft spot in the haystac and snuggle in!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  Make the day your own in every way!  And stop by and share it with us!

Good morning

No sign if the northen lights here although I did look out at 11:30 pm .
Overcast with a temp of 44°, may see sun.
A day of rest here, although I am beginning to wonder what constitutes rest!

Babe is doing not too bad, vet said I can up her pain pill if needed at this stage of the game. Her hearing is spot on, just try and sneak a cookie and Miss Babe will let you know she also wants some.

Lloyd good to see you.

Better get on with the day..

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

to ALL our special MOM'S ❣️❣️❣️

We have been very busy this week helping one of our sons and his family move from Colorado to Arizona.  Son drove a big rental truck and Bob and I drove their car.  Mama and the two littles flew in the following day.  Their home is coming together very nicely and we all think they are going to be very comfortable here in Prescott.  Mark is the director of golf at a private golf club here. He is very excited for what we hope to be a long term location for their boys to grow up in🙏🙏 Thank you AMY, for keeping in touch and checking on me.  I am not able to do much but I can keep the little boys busy so everyone else can ‼️

I've been on line with the storeback home whereI bought my computer and he has me back on line!  I thanked him profusely!

We had dinner last night at Ali and Dan's and Dan did most of the work for our Mother's Day present.  He did a great job!  Everything was delicious!

Now it's raining again here.  I hope it doesn't ruing Ali'sflowers!  I don't think they've had this much rain since they moved here!  And it's a tad chilly too!

I don't know what's on our agenda but I know Cindy has time to make up on her work-at-home job because she had my computer hooked up to her monitor while my guy was working on it!  She's a sweetheart!

AMY, good luck with the rhubarb.  I did juice last summer but I bet I won't be home in time to do that this summer!

JENNY, you sure are enjoying the kids!  Keep at it whenever you can.  That's a special job!  I'm loving my time with the Great Grands while I'm here!  They wear me out but I love it!

I wish you a a great day!  Make it your own in every way!  And don't forget to share it with us!

Good morning, it's 46 degrees at 9:06, partly sunny and nice outside. I have nothing going on except a series of serial email conversations with a number of folks and trying to clean out my fridge.

Jenny and Jane, enjoy your time with the littlest. The youngest in my family is 34 and has her own husband to cuddle with.

Amy, the Native Elders Center below and across the street from me, is bringing in soil and preparing their multiple trugs for planting on Memorial Day. They grow food to share with the Native Elders in their communities. I admire that Natives, both Eskimo and Indian, revere and respect their elders, who are the backbone of their communities.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I've been up and attem for a bit now.  I went for a walk, had my breakfast and hid in the background while Cindy had a call with several of her people all at once!  I'm so impressed with the job she does!  It's amazing how they stop to listen and absorb her opinions!  I knew she was smart but it's always nice to know that others know that too!

I'm not sure what's up with us today but there's an Amish store a little way from here and I know she wants to make a trip there because they carry the lunch meant and cheese that is special to Pennsylvania.  Don't know if that will be today of not.  And I don't know if we're getting any kids today either.  It's "wait and see" for me!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as  tomorrow!  Make it your own in every way and don't forget to pop in here.  We miss you when we don't see  you!

Good morning, after a night of showers, it's 42 and cloudy, heading to only 60 today. I hope everyone is having a good day re quilting issues or Amish trips and that Rick is doing well.

I'm in the middle of some chores I've been putting off and trying to finish what I'd already started, so hopefully, a productive day.

Likewise, I hope everyone reading this or passing by has one also.

The day didn't go as planned but that is ok.  I did manage to get some trug beds cleaned and ready plus mow the lawn.  Maybe tomorrow will have time to do quilting..maybe.
Noticed that the swallows have chose the birdhouse on the right......same as last year. Others have two nests in the shed where the riding lawnmower is kept.

Rick, no Oak Island !! I do watch Mysteries of the Abandoned  and find it intersting.

I check in every day but don't always post. Things have quieted down considerably. Nothing exciting happening at the moment unless you consider me exile from the TV for a few days because I need to replace the remote batteries which should arrive in a few days. In the afternoon, I played around with the all-in-one computer that my sister gave me. Of course she can't remember, and has not run across, the password for it so I can get into administrative to change the name, photo, and email. Jim took care of most of that stuff for her. Having said that, I discovered that there is one thing at least that I can change anyway even though it gives me the "you need to sign-in with a verification code message". I just click through until it does what I want. Sue never even changed her email account login. The one it wants to send to is no longer used. The thing has a wonderfully sharp monitor. Jim always bought high end computers. Lots more RAM, lots more storage. I accidently installed Windows 11 on it when I ran update on it. It looks nothing like the setup on my Windows 11 Laptop. Much more like Windows 10. Now I have to disappear that blasted Co-Pilot and download another browser to avoid all those annoying ads and nanny messages from MS and advertisers.

Oh, and I stayed up until around 2:30am reading a book I just could not put down. Keep in mind that the cats start trying to roust me out of bed around 4am. I did have a cup of tea and then napped out on the sofa for a few interrupted hours, but you can bet there is a major nap coming up this afternoon.

So that was my "exciting" day yesterday. Not sure what I am going to do today.

Mars - I had a cat, named MAX, who was an indoor/outdoor cat. Every day he would show up around 4 O:Clock and make me take a nap. He would stand on the floor near where I was and look back and forth between me and the sofa, till I went there and lied down. Then he would join me.

Sorry I have been missing but have been dealing with a big problem. On last Tues. evening a large tree fell on my house.  It did a fair amount of damage to the roof but no injuries to David or me.  Right now I am dealing with the insurance co. and other local repair and restoration companies who are helping me to restore my house.  It is a headache but everyone is being very helpful and accommodating and it will just take time to get everything done.  I'll come in here when I can.  Meanwhile,

Take care, All.

Good Morning!  As of yesterday afternoon...I'm a Great Grandmother!!!  Cooper David was born at 2:24 p.m.  Father is "Sir Carson", as I've called him on here.  Cooper weighed 7 lbs, 15 oz. and was 20 1/2 inches long.  He is the 5th generation to be named David - although my husband was the only one who was/is called that.  Cooper's parents and the grandparents live about a 40 mile drive away. I'm guessing I'll meet him when uncle/aunt, who live across town from me, go out to see him.

Phyllis, lots of trees falling on houses across Oklahoma in the past two weeks.  So sorry you're having to deal with that, too.

  Enjoy your day, Everyfriend.

Good morning, I'm late checking in as meet and greets, plus morning chores, ran long. Phyllis, I'm sorry to hear about your house and hope it all gets resolved soon. That must have been a shock when it happened, I can't even imagine.

Calle, that is such exciting news and welcome to Cooper David! I love that name and that family names are contained on through families. Congratulations to Carson and Cooper's mom.

Thanks, Jane, for helping and enjoy visiting the Oklahoma Amish store. The only ones close to that locally, are two settlements in Big Delta that have roadside stalls, Old Believers, Russian, and Mennonites, both sects have several farms in the area.

Amy, it's nice to see you posting. Jane said it best, we miss you when we don't hear, but hope you take care of yourself too when you're caring for others.

Hello Everyfriend, especially those of you who have posted.

CALLIE, Congratulations to you and to the rest of Cooper's family!  what a special event!

PHYLLIS, thank goodness, you are both safe.  The repairs will take some time but it's infinitely better to be repairing the house than it would be to be repairing YOU OR YOUR SON!  What a blessing for both of you!

To all the rest of you, keep on keeping on!  We'll miss you if you don't stop by.  We'll even miss you if you stop by and don't say anything!

We did go to the Amish store today and we spent a bundle and got some good stuff.  I let Emma pick a little container of candy and she bought gumdrops and they were all kinds of sizes.  They have a little restaurant there too and we had lunch.  I had some of the best home-made potato soup ever. Now I have to go get ready to go with Cindy to stay with the kids while Ali and Dan go out to dinner to celebrate their wedding anniversary!  We've sure as hack had a fun day.  Emma stayed all day and it was great!  I wish you all a good rest of the day.  Make it a good one!

Good morning..

A day of rest here..maybe.

Phyllis I am so glad you and David are fine...houses can be repaired .Good to hear that everyone is being helpful. You have enough stress without adding to it.

Jane, hope you are keeping a journal  of your days there.  We have a Mennonite market here in summer. I get my bushels of cucumbers and tomatoes there. Get them all at once and not wait on what the garden is producing.

Rick, famr stands are good! You also get fresh produce and maybe even baking there.

Patricia, nice chatting with you. I think I have everything in order here now....sometimes the schedule will go out of whack but that's  ok . Most of the garden is in all but tomato plants.

Callie..........congratulations  GG!!! I also like the name Cooper DAVID  :smitten:

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

George used to stop at one up Rt. 15 between here and Mansfield, PA. I was only in it once.

Rammel, we used to have a lot of market stands near here, but it is a rare sight now. I am not sure how many orchard market stands are left. There might be one or two. We used to got out to get strawberries, and a few of us neighbors would pile into a car with our baskets and head on over to pick your own cherries, blueberries, apples, etc. Jane, our blueberry picking was up near Winfield if I remember correctly. Otherwise, we did our fruit picking south on Rt. 15, mostly around Biglerville, home of the PA Apple Museum,  and Aspers, home to a Mott's apple processing plant.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's going to be a hot one here!  The temp is going all the way up to 88 today!

MG, I bet the Farmer's Market where your guy stopped is the one that is practically in my backyard.  It's open every Saturday and it has EVERYTHING!  I go there regularly!  We also have one that is open every Wednesday and there are lots of Amish farmers who bring their fruits and veggies there.  I haunt that one also!

I'm not sure what's on the schedule today but tomorrow I'm on my own. Cindy has a call to report for jury selection.  She's hoping NOT to be selected and I'm hoping that she isn't selected, too. Although, she would probably be a good one!

Don't know if we'll have kiddies today or not.  Daddy is off work and he likes to be with them when he can!  But if Ali needs him to help her with the flowers, we might have the kids. Sometimes they go with them to the flowers and sometimes they don't!  I guess we'll see!

I wish you all a great day today!  Enjoy every minute!  And don't forget to peek in here!

Good morning..

Starting out at 48° heading to a high of 80+°.  Company came  on their motorcycle/trike yesterday just as I was watering the flowers. We have been friends for over 50 years  and always enjoy our time together. She said as long as they can swing their leg to get on the bike they will be riding it.  I should have told her my friend in another province who is 79 rode her trike here on her own to visit friends! Now her husband is trading in his motorcycle for a Honda trike..age has a way of creeping up but that doesn't mean one has to give  up!

Being a holdiay weekend here there are lots of tourists /cottagers up. Firercrakers broke the stillness  of the night last night, hope no repeat tonight. Traffic will be a stinker tonight.

Today is doing the trimming where the lawnmower couldn't get yesterday. Gardening and whatever comes along ....

Enjoy your day and stay safe

The tornado that went through the other side of the suburb in which they live was a BIG, long-lasting one.  News this morning said it began in the Texas panhandle and fizzled out east of OKC - a 202 mile path!!!

Fortunately, all of my family who lives in that suburb are fine (hope Mary Page's granddaughter and family are, too) and I haven't heard of any damage to their houses. My area wasn't affected.

Today is sunny and supposed to be in the 90's.

Off to find something useful to do.  Enjoy your day, Everyfriend.

Good morning, a little cooler this morning but sunny. We finally reached the early seventies over the weekend and hope that continues rising!

Nothing new here, meet and greets, morning chores and some vacuuming yesterday and today. I've been doing some re-arranging and spot cleaning here and there as I can.

Callie, I'm so glad Cooper and family are safe and accounted for. I understand that a new series of storms will begin tomorrow from the west coat through Maine. I hope all in its path stay safe!

Jane, I hope you're doing well today, Phyllis, MG and Rick you as well,  stay safe, please.

Amy, what a nice visit that must have been with your friends. I have a few from forty years and one who was actually in my Kindergarten class, which I find remarkable. What is that saying, it popped into my mind, reading your post about silver and gold?

I found two. One from the Girl Scouts, that I partially remembered, "Make new friends but keep the old. One is silver, the other gold." It's from a poem by Richard Parry,

New Friends and Old Friends
Poet: Joseph Parry

Make new friends, but keep the old;
Those are silver, these are gold.
New-made friendships, like new wine,
Age will mellow and refine.

Friendships that have stood the test -
Time and change - are surely best;
Brow may wrinkle, hair grow gray,
Friendship never knows decay.

For 'mid old friends, tried and true,
Once more we our youth renew.
But old friends, alas! may die,
New friends must their place supply.

Cherish friendship in your breast -
New is good, but old is best;
Make new friends, but keep the old;
Those are silver, these are gold.

Just as I started in this morning to see what was going on, Ali called and asked if Jim and I could mind the two boys while she kept an appointment for car repairs this morning.  We did and they just left.  I think Jim's as worn out as I am. I loved it but I'm tired.  Just getting up and down on the floor to play with Cam is a chore for me!!  But it's a chore I love!

We used to sing "Make new friends" regularly in Girl Scouts and at GS Camp.  It's one of the songs that is permanently stuck in my mind!  I love it!  I sing it still about once a week!

Cindy is still off to see if they want her for Jury Duty!  It sure does take longer in real life than it does on Perry Mason!

I guess I'll go read a bit and maybe stuff something in my face while I read!  Have a good rest of the day!  Don't forget....stop by and share it with us!

Good early morning..

Woke to thunder and lightening show. Made sure the dogs had water in case we do lose power...hope not.

Yesterday was busy doing odd jobs outside ,I managed to get the trimming done around where the lawnmower wouldn't go.

Due to rain work will be inside .

Patricia, love the poems. If we have compnay and another friend pops by and says I won't come in you have company. I just tell them  they are friends you haven't met yet.

Callie, so glad to read everyone is safe and  sound. I can't imagine enduring tornados and happy to read they have a storm shelter.

Jane, I bet you slept sound last night after having fun with the kids. Don't you wish we had their energy?

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  RICK,  you are so right!  We didn't even know what it was we were wasting back in the "olden days"!

Cindy is gone again!  They haven't finished selecting the jurors yet.  She says it's a slow process and there must be a way to speed it up! If she served on that committee, she'd find a way!

I don't know what I'll be doing today...maybe making more cookies for the doggies...maybe some  cleaning...maybe some supper!  Maybe all of the above!  Or maybe the kids will come  over again!

You all have a great day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!  And don't forget to share it with us!

The rain has taken the crab apple blossoms and made the ground pink! Lilacs are sharing their scent but all too soon they shall be gone. The rain will certainly help the seeds in the garden.

Rick, time was something we didn't put a value on back then. Now we covet every second. I know time slips by so fast anymore.

Patrica, do you have lilacs there???

"Known for its vigorous nature, longevity, and beautiful flowers, 'Primrose' is a truly unique French Lilac featuring abundant large clusters of butter-yellow buds that open to soft yellow flowers, which stand out remarkably well against the backdrop of deep green heart-shaped leaves.

As with other lilacs, the flowers of Primrose are delightfully fragrant filling the yard with heavenly sweet aroma in spring. Can be grown as a large shrub or lower branches removed to form a highly attractive tree 8 to 12 feet tall and 6 to 8 feet wide. Excellent in the flowering shrub border or as a specimen or background in sunny to partially shaded landscape borders."

Good morning..

Looks to be a nice day with no rain in sight. The rain did put a push on the grass and the rhubarb too!
A few errands in town to do then home to get things done.

I made Flapper pie, a recipe my friends Mom would make when she was a child. Put some in the hidey hole , more like a cream pie to me.

Jane, talked with David and he is off to Harrisburg PA.  is this close to your home?

Patricia, I am going to look for those ,can't you just imagine having a row of purple ,yellow ,purple?

Better get the day started.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend! I was just getting into bed last night when I realized that I had not checked out here! Cindy and I just got to talking and doing things and I simply forgot to check!
Sorry about that!

AMY, David is about 60 miles south of me when he's in Harrisburg!  But he's only about 10 miles from my sister's house!  He has gone through Lewisburg before and that's where we met!

I've never seen yellow lilacs either!  and yes, a row as you suggest would be beautiful!

We're about to get another storm this morning and I'm guessing that my walk today will be upstairs on Cindy's (whatever you call it).  It's thundering like crazy.  Ali was going to bring the boys over so she could go work on her flowers but I don't think that's going to happen.  I guess we'll see how fast it passes!

I wish you all a good day, better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.  Make it your own in every way!  And don't forget to stop by!  We miss you when we don't "see" you!

Good morning, 53 and partly cloudy. Tomorrow's forecast is for cooler weather and some rain. Amy, we have several different types of lilacs grown locally, so I thought they had to be in Canada. I checked and yes,  available in Canada.

It's a "common Lilac" shade, Syringa Vulgaris,  Syringa Primrose yellow lilac which is rarer but grown locally and in your area according to my search.

"Primrose is an extremely rare Lilac adorned with unique buttery-yellow blooms, that is much sought after by gardeners but seldom found. The color actually deepens & grows more intense as the season progresses, especially in colder areas."

Jane I hope that latest storm passes right on by!

Found this.

AMY, if David was passing the hospital he was less than 5 minutes from my house and less than 2 minutes from the Wal-Mart parking lot where we met the last time he went through!  I missed him this time!

We  had the boys for about 3 hours today while Ali worked on her flowers.  She came by just in time to get them home for naps and boy were they ready!  And, boy, so was I!  But I didn't give in!  I took my walk right after they left! And now I'm going to play on the computer a while.  Bet I'll be ready for bed early tonight!

Have a good rest of the day!  Enjoy it in every way!

Something to think about. Do we really want Microsoft to keep a permanent record of our keystrokes and actions? And why I'm staying on W10.

Microsoft's New 'Recall' Feature Is Equal Parts Cool and Dangerous
It takes screenshots of nearly everything you do on Windows 11, so you can search for a specific activity later on. How does a feature that records everything you do on your PC sound?

We take the search function for granted—when it goes well. If you search for a particular email, photo, or document on your PC, and it pops right up, you don't think twice about it. But if you spend 10 minutes scouring your hard drive looking for that one file, you lose your mind. That's where Microsoft hopes its new Recall feature can help—even if it comes with some major security risks.
What is Recall?

Recall, at its core, is simple: The feature quietly takes screenshots of what you're doing on your PC throughout your session. Whenever you perform a search with Recall, it pulls from all these screenshots to find relevant moments in your PC activity history that might be what you're looking for, stitching them together into a scrollable timeline. For example, if you're looking for a slideshow you were crafting for work, searching for it may pull up the times you were working on it in PowerPoint, as well as the presentation you gave with it. The same goes for an image: If you're looking for the photo of your dog at the park, you may see it from the time you opened it in your photos library, but also in the messaging app you used to send the photos to friends and family.

I just saw what Microsoft if trying to foist on us about an hour ago. Between them, Amazon and Google, I feel like we are heading to a kind of stealth enslavement. This machine is still Windows 10, but my laptop came with Windows 11 and the all-in-one that Sue gave me has a desktop that is just different enough from mine or I just plain hit the wrong key accidently, that I ended up with 11. Next time I have turn it on, I hope to see a button I can click to revert back to 10. Otherwise, I am likely to install one of the Linux systems. I like Linux, always have, but my computers, after a few months, didn't. It is just too bad that more people don't switch. The very, very few computers I see on sale with a Linux OS installed are very expensive, sold mostly for business use. Linux desktops have become much, much more user friendly and easier to work with now. You won't see some of your favorite programs, but they have plenty of alternatives.

I'm also still using W10. I like it. If it does what I want, and isn't broke. why "fix" it?  But that little button remains down there in the tray. I've warned my son to never click on it. I'm sure someone has come up with a way to remove or hide it.

Mars - My head seems to recall  that there is a way to revert to 10.  If I stumble across it, I'll let you know.

I have a laptop still on W-7, and an old puter downstairs still doing W-XP.

Oh great, it is been more than 10 days I think. The nice thing about Lenovo computers is that they are compatible with Linux OS. I only have to decide which iteration I want to use. The last few installs and upgrades I had were Ubuntu, but I am seriously thinking about going back to Mint or Cinnamon.

We haven't had any of those thunderstorms the weather forecast called for this week. If we had one last night, I didn't hear it. We are supposed to have some rain this morning, but so far it is just cloudy.

To my knowledge no wind damage here from yesterdays storm, it was a doozy and they did have tornado warning out.

Picked up dog food, checked the oil  and windshield fluid , planted tomatoe plants after mixing sheep gold and soil for them. Now I just have to plant a sorry looking cucmber plant that I took pity on from the grocery store. There he was on the reduced table all alone and soon he will have a new home in the garden.

Good morning, another late night and following morning for me.

Amy, Jane, is it possible it's a chrysanthemum?

Phyllis, I hope they can free up time soon to repair your roof.

MG, I went back to W10 on my older computer after over a year with W11. But, perhaps Microsoft in their zeal had closed that loophole? With the one I have now, I was able to buy it on sale with W10 still on it.

Of course, I get constant nags about how my world would be brighter, richer and so much better if I only gave in to the wonders of W11. Unfortunately, after 10/25, W10 will no longer have updates, but I can live with that.

JUST AN F.Y.I. --

Rhubarb stalks are a beloved ingredient in pies and desserts, but their leaves contain oxalic acid, which is toxic to humans and can lead to the formation of kidney stones or even kidney failure in acute cases. Despite warnings, some mistakenly incorporate them into dishes, likely due to their similarity to spinach leaves , risking severe illness.

Jane, thank you. David said he saw many and in different colours.

Rick, I did look up the rhododendron  but it didn't  seem to reach the height that David saw them.

Patricia I totally forgot about that.  Apparently  we did get another storm last night around 11 pm light show, thunder and inch size hail! I never heard a thing!

Tome  yes leaves are poisonous! Some people have taken the leaves blenden with water to use as bug spray on plants. I can't  help wonder though if that would find its way into the vegetable.

My bet is on Rhododendron, too. They are blooming here now, generally May and June. But it is hard to see the leaves under all those beautiful blooms.

Hydrangea was my very first impression. I thought hydrangea start blooming a little later, but I just looked. The web says late spring through summer, depending on what kind. Mine didn't bloomed this early, though.

Is the hydrangea the one that your pour your old pickle juice or vinegar on to make the color brighter?  If so, my M-I-L had one that was about the size of the one shown in your picture, but it was blue.  I don't know what other things you would feed it, but hers was way past the windows on her mobile home.  Of course, she had a "green thumb" and could grow almost anything without trying.
Title: Re: Soda Shoppe May 1 , 2024
Post by: MarsGal on May 24, 2024, 07:31:09 AM
Haven't heard that one Tomereader, but it is most likely. Hydrangeas thrive in acidic soil, so adding something acidic to the soil around them enhances the color of the bloom. Other plants that love acid soils are strawberries, blueberries, azalea, rhododendron, camellia, many pine and spruce trees. I had very acid soil when I had my big garden so I didn't need to add any soil amendments. The hydrangeas I had at the house I just sold were blue, but I only ever saw them with blooms even close to the one pictured once for twice. I could never get them prune right.

Rhododendrons do have compact varieties, but they can get to 20 feet tall depending on the variety. I didn't know that they grew minis that only get to about 16" high until I just looked them up. Did you know that azaleas are a subgenre of rhododendron? I didn't.

Here is one we don't see much about these days: Mountain Laurel. Native to the Eastern US, they grow between four and ten feet tall. I used to see them a lot when traveling through forested areas. They are toxic to humans and pets, so I guess that is why people don't plant them anymore. The are the state flower of Connecticut and Pennsylvania.

I've had my coffee, breakfast, shower, and my walk this morning!  We're going to have all three of the kids later while Ali gets some work done on her flower garden!  I'm thinking she might be back in time for lunch and then take at least the boys home for their afternoon nap!  I'm pretty sure that's when she gets a few minutes rest, too!

My plan for the rest of the day is play with kids and then REST!  I love them all over the place but they do wear me down!

Good morning, only 50 presently with rain and drizzle to continue overnight, and possibly into the weekend.

MG, our black glacial soil must be acidic as we have all those plants and trees you mentioned. We live in a huge boreal forest that spans most of the state's Interior. When I attempted to discover its size, I found something very interesting, or at least it was for me.

"The boreal zone is a broad belt of forest that spans the top of the world covering vast expanses in Canada, Alaska, Northern Europe and Russia. In Alaska, the boreal forest is found in the interior lands between the Brooks Range, north of Fairbanks to the Chugach Range outside of Anchorage. Because of the northerly latitude the growing season is short and the winters are long with snow cover that lasts several months. The best place to experience the boreal forest is a drive from Anchorage to Talkeenta, Denali or Fairbanks and exploring some of the trails along the way."

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's a beautiful day in Oklahoma.  Cindy and I already made a trip to the Farmers' Market and I bought some stuff  to cook here and some bottled hot sauce to take home. The gentleman who makes it is named "Dan" and he labels it "Dan Hot Sauce".  You might notice that using his name allows him to omit the "m" in that word because it really is HOT!  He gave me his card and said that if I run out, I should call or text and he'll mail some to me!  Wasn't that nice!!!

I also got some flavored butter to use here and a head of cauliflower to cook for supper!

When we got home, I took my walk and I'm ready for a bit of a rest!  It's going to be a hot day here!  And the kids have gone to the lake house with their other grandparents so we won't see them today or tomorrow!  I'm gonna miss them for sure!

AMY, I sure hope that crow appreciates what he gets from you!  He's a lucky guy!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!  Make it your own in every way.  And don't forget to stop by!

Good morning, 47 and cloudy after a day and night of rain. Meet and greets, morning chores done, coffee's on, and now I'm off to see what everyone else is up to.

Jane, you should share your hot mustard with Dan! Lots of fun watching the crows here, soon they will bring their young and watching them is better than TV!

Patricia, our temp is 58° at the moment and I am wearing a heavy long sleeved shirt. More rain on the way plus a storm on Monday.

Almost time to say "Good Night".

AMY, I bet he'd like the hot mustard!  If I had some here, I'd offer him a jar!  With everything I needed to bring and having to fit it to fly here, I left the mustard at home.  I do have his address though.  I suppose I could send him a jar when I get home!  I bet that would surprise him!

We have a leak in some kind of line and I think Jim said it's a natural gas line.  They don't know where it's leaking....can't find anything and Jim seems to think it's the warning buzzer that's bad.  I sure hope he's right or we might all wake up conked out tomorrow!  Oh well, Cindy just took off to go get a new one so we shall see!

I wish you all  a peaceful night's sleep and a good tomorrow.  I'll report in tomorrow (I think)

Good morning, 46 and partly cloudy this morning and people are readying their gardens for Memorial Day plantings. The various "troubadours" have taken up their assigned corners, and bandstands, to spend the day singing to us. I'm so glad that they added a provision against any powerful mics.

Alaskaland, opens its gates on Memorial Day and the 10K Midnight Sun Run, is on June 22nd this year, and has evidently been selected to be a 2024 Road Runners Clubs of America National Championship Event per the news.

Baseball, softball, soccer, adult and children's leagues are claiming their fields and settling in. The semi-professional Alaska Goldpanners, will host the Ventura County Pirates for their first game this week and on June 21st, for the solstice game that starts at midnight under no artificial lights, they're playing the Seattle Studs.

The Yukon 800 Mile Marathon, a two day, high speed, riverboat race, begins on the Solstice and runs on the Chena, Tanana, and Yukon Rivers, traveling through hundreds of miles of Alaskan Wilderness, it's billed as the roughest, toughest, speedboat race in the world.

So, as the weather finally warms, people are not only planning but enjoying their summer.

Well, we all woke up this morning so I guess Jim was right.  It was the warning buzzer that was bad and not the heater leaking gas!  Thank goodness for that!

Cindy and I went out to Ali's garden to water for her this morning and then we stoppedand did some shopping on the way home!  We've had lunch and she's catching up on something on her computer job and I'm catching up with my friends!

PATRICIA, it sounds like Alaska is waking to Spring in a big way. If you wanted to find something to do or something to watch it would be easy from now through the summer, wouldn't it?

AMY, they can keep their snow up there.  I don't want it to show near me until next winter!!

Now I think I'll go do some walking but not outside in 89 degree weather!  I'll use Cindy's walking machine upstairs! Have a good rest of the day!  Do whatever suits your fancy!

A Tale of Six Boys

Each year, I am hired to go to Washington, DC with the eighth grade class from Clinton, WI where I grew up, to videotape their trip. I greatly enjoy visiting our nation's capitol, and each year, I take some special memories back with me. This fall's trip was especially memorable.

On the last night of our trip, we stopped at the Iwo Jima memorial. That memorial is the largest bronze statue in the world and depicts one of the most famous photographs in history; that of the six brave soldiers raising the American flag at the top of a rocky hill on the island of Iwo Jima, Japan during WWII.

Over one hundred students and chaperones piled off the buses and headed toward the memorial. I noticed a solitary figure at the base of the statue, and as I got closer, he asked, "Where are you guys from?"

I told him we were from Wisconsin. "Hey, I'm a cheese head, too! Come gather around, cheese heads, and I will tell you a story."

James Bradley just happened to be in Washington, DC to speak at the memorial the following day. He was there that night to say goodnight to his dad, who has since passed away. He was just about to leave when he saw the buses pull up. I videotaped him as he spoke to us, and received his permission to share what he said from my videotape. It is one thing to tour the incredible monuments filled with history in Washington, D.C., but it is quite another to get the kind of insight we received that night. When all had gathered around, he reverently began to speak. (Here are his words from that night).

"My name is James Bradley and I'm from Antigo, Wisconsin. My dad is on that statue, and I just wrote a book called "Flags of Our Fathers," which is number five on the New York Times Best Seller list right now. It is the story of the six boys you see behind me."

"Six boys raised the flag. The first guy putting the pole in the ground is Harlon Block. Harlon was an all-state football player. He enlisted in the Marine Corps with all the senior members of his football team. They were off to play another type of game. A game called 'war,' but it didn't turn out to be a game."

"Harlon, at the age of 21, died with his intestines in his hands. I don't say that to gross you out. I say that, because there are people who stand in front of this statue and talk about the glory of war. You guys need to know that most of the boys in Iwo Jima were 17, 18 and 19 years old."

(He pointed to the statue). "You see this next guy? That's Rene Gagnon from New Hampshire. If you took Rene's helmet off at the moment this photo was taken and looked in the webbing of that helmet, you would find a photograph. A photograph of his girlfriend. Rene put that in there for protection, because he was scared. He was 18 years old. Boys won the battle of Iwo Jima, boys, not old men."

"The next guy here, the third guy in this tableau, was Sergeant Mike Strank. Mike is my hero. He was the hero of all these guys. They called him the "old man," because he was so old. He was already 24. When Mike would motivate his boys in training camp, he didn't say, 'Let's go kill some Japanese' or 'Let's die for our country.' He knew he was talking to little boys. Instead, he would say, 'You do what I say, and I'll get you home to your mothers.'"

"The last guy on this side of the statue is Ira Hayes, a Pima Indian from Arizona. Ira Hayes walked off Iwo Jima. He went into the White House with my dad. President Truman told him, 'You're a hero.' He told reporters, 'How can I feel like a hero when 250 of my buddies hit the island with me and only 27 of us walked off alive?' So, you take your class at school. Two-hundred and fifty of you spending a year together, having fun, doing everything together. Then all 250 of you hit the beach, but only 27 of your classmates walk off alive. That was Ira Hayes. He had images of horror in his mind. Ira Hayes died dead drunk, face down at the age of 32, ten years after this picture was taken."

"The next guy, going around the statue, is Franklin Sousley from Hilltop, Kentucky. A fun-lovin' hillbilly boy. His best friend, who is now 70, told me, 'Yeah, you know, we took two cows up on the porch of the Hilltop General Store. Then we strung wire across the stairs so the cows couldn't get down. Then we fed them Epsom salts. Those cows crapped all night.' Yes, he was a fun-lovin' hillbilly boy. Franklin died on Iwo Jima at the age of 19. When the telegram came to tell his mother that he was dead, it went to the Hilltop General Store.

A barefoot boy ran that telegram up to his mother's farm. The neighbors could hear her scream all night and into the morning. The neighbors lived a quarter of a mile away."

"The next guy, as we continue to go around the statue, is my dad, John Bradley from Antigo, Wisconsin, where I was raised. My dad lived until 1994, but he would never give interviews. When Walter Cronkite's producers, or the New York Times would call, we were trained as little kids to say, 'No, I'm sorry, sir, my dad's not here. He is in Canada fishing. No, there is no phone there, sir. No, we don't know when he is coming back.' My dad never fished or even went to Canada. Usually, he was sitting right there at the table eating his Campbell's soup. But we had to tell the press that he was out fishing. He didn't want to talk to the press."

"You see, my dad didn't see himself as a hero. Everyone thinks these guys are heroes, 'cause they are in a photo and on a monument. My dad knew better. He was a medic. John Bradley from Wisconsin was a caregiver. In Iwo Jima, he probably held over 200 boys as they died. And when boys died in Iwo Jima, they writhed and screamed in pain."

"When I was a little boy, my third grade teacher told me that my dad was a hero. When I went home and told my dad that, he looked at me and said, 'I want you always to remember that the heroes of Iwo Jima are the guys who did not come back. Did not come back.'"

"So, that's the story about six nice young boys. Three died on Iwo Jima, and three came back as national heroes. Overall, 7,000 boys died on Iwo Jima in the worst battle in the history of the Marine Corps. My voice is giving out, so I will end here. Thank you for your time."

Suddenly, the monument wasn't just a big old piece of metal with a flag sticking out of the top. It came to life before our eyes with the heartfelt words of a son who did indeed have a father who was a hero. Maybe not a hero for the reasons most people would believe, but a hero nonetheless.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  My father is a veteran of WWI and, thank you, God we don't have to honor him until Veterans Day!  He made it home but I know he had memories that he wished he could forget from that war.  And he remembered friends who didn't make it home!

I sure do miss the kids this weekend!  I know they are having fun at the lake because we got some good pictures!  But I still miss them!

Have a good day Everyfriend!  Make it your own in every way!  And don't forget to peek in here!

You've taken a misconception and run with it.

I was not in any way speaking against Memorial Day or against the military men and women who fought and died for their country.

What I thought I had gotten across was that often wars are begun where diplomacy fails and that are often the result of a few people's greed or religious ideology and men and women suffer and die for that.

War is horrendous, and what it does to millions and millions of people is incalculable. And how do you glorify that?

That was my point.

Checking in after a very busy past week of celebrating our oldest Grandson Matt's graduation from high school.  The parties are now like something we would have for a wedding back in the day😉😉 Lots of fun but way over the top‼️‼️‼️

Like many we have just finished all of our planting of flowers.  Now if we can just keep the darn hail at bay all will be well.  Sure nice to have lots of color on the patio‼️‼️

Today I visited my spine surgeon for a consultation on my lower back issues.  He wants me to try a couple of injections and see if I get immediate relief, even if it doesn't last to see if it is in the right area he may need to address with surgery.  And so it all continues.....

This afternoon we are gathering in the area golf club house for a happy hour catch up time.  It will be good to see everyone again.

Today would have been Dave and Michele's 30th wedding anniversary.  These momentous dates keep coming on, and they are still a rough time to get through.  Of course it was hard that our M was not here with us to enjoy her first born child's accomplishments 😢. Life must go on🦋🦋

We had a quiet Memorial celebration yesterday at Dave and Carolyn's after they planted their new garden area.

We did not get to the cemetery as planned but hope to go tomorrow when it is less crowded.

PHYLLIS, I do hope the repairs on your home are coming along well.  So sorry for you and David to have to deal with this.

GREAT GRANDMA CALLIE.....I was so pleased to read on FB about Cooper David joining the family.  Congratulations to you all.....love that your Dave continues to be honored with his name.  🥰

Take care EVERYFRIEND 🥰

Hi Jenny, nice to "see" you!  Stop by again when you have a minute!

Ali and the kids came by today and we all had lunch together. Cindy, Jim and I did "catch as catch can" for supper.  We've been accumulating a lot of leftovers and we decided it was time to get rid of some of them. I had a piece of meat cut up in some leftover pasta and a half cup of leftover cauliflower on the side.  It was a pretty good supper.  I don't know what the other two had.  But I guess they had enough because I haven't heard anyone at the fridge. OOPS!  I just heard the fridge door!  Wonder who got a yearning!  And one of the dogs just got off my feet and took off for the kitchen!  I'm planning on a popsicle later when everything settles!

I hope you all had a good day!  I hope it was yours in every way!  You can share it if you want to!

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm just about ready to head upstairs to take a shower and get dressed before heading out for my morning walk!  Don't know if we'll have the kids or not!  Cindy just left to get a hair cut and Jim is eating his breakfast while he checks his mail!

We sure aren't a bunch of exciting older people!  Cindy is the busiest.  She still is working practically full time from home.  I sometimes hear her with customers and I wonder how I ever produced this smart gal. Sometimes I wonder that about her siblings too!

Guess I better get moving! I wish you all a good day....better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!  Make it your own in every way!  And don't forget to pop in her and say "HI"

Trying to find a food that Babe will eat has been interesting.
Lean hamburg was fine for a while but not now. Beef liver and chicken hearts also did it for a while. Now we are trying chicken breasts along with the broth and cooked mashed sweet potato and YES it is working. That along with being hand fed is making her happy! What we don't  do  for our furkids!

Good Night Everyfriend!  I'm going to hit the hay early tonight because I have to be up and attem early tomorrow to get ready for Cindy's cleaning lady!  I have to have all my stuff off the floor and the windowsill and night stand before they get here.  I'm sure glad my suitcase is empty and that it fits on the bed!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  Make the day your own in every way but share a piece of it with us!  We miss you when we don't "see" you!

Good Morning Everyfriend!  The cleaning ladies were here when I got back from my walk today so I took up residence on the porch swing until they left. It smells good in here and Cindy got a message from Ali while we were out there that they won't be coming over here today. So I have to watch myself so Cindy can enjoy a clean, non-messed-up house for a day!  I don't think she'd really mind if they did come and mess it up. She truly loves those kids!  I do too!!!

AMY, I hope the frost keeps on avoiding your plantings!  That could be bad, annoying, frustrating etc.  I'll be thinking of you!

RICK, Enjoy the sunshine!  I know they've had lots of rainy days back where I live.  I'm glad I missed them!

I wish you all a good day today...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!  Poke your head in and share it with us!  We don't want to miss you!

Good Morning Everyfriend!

AMY, sorry I didn't make it back in last night!  Cindy spends her days on the computer working at her job from home.  I do what I can  and usually have lunch with her and a few times when she takes abreak. But when she shuts down for the day, that's our special time together. Sometimes we take a short walk. Sometimes we make a trip  somewhere but we always spend that time together.  I'm often on my way to bed thinking of my computer friends and remembering that I haven't had an evening visit.  Please forgive me.  I really need my time with Cindy.  We'll be back on our schedule for sure when I go home and when she has left to  come back here!

I miss  you all when I don't get a couple of visits in!  Remember that!  You are all very special friends!  Enjoy your day!
