CHUCKLES

If Only I Could Take  It Back

On a family vacation in Texas, my brother-in-law Mike exhibited the exuberance of a tourist. At a diner, he and his brothers ordered cheeseburgers. When his meal arrived, the first thing Mike noticed was its size.

"Wow," he exclaimed, "everything IS bigger in Texas!"

As he lifted the burger off the plate, his eyes met the cold stare of the 300-pound waitress.

Food For Thought

I'd Rather Have Jesus
(Author Unknown)

The Apostle Paul wrote, "What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ."

On a recent TV program, I saw George Beverly Shea, now 98, being interviewed by Bill Gaither. Since close to the beginning of the Billy Graham Crusades back in '47 (made "famous" in '49), Mr. Shea has been the BGC team soloist. Over the years I've attended several Graham Crusades in both Australia & the US. When in Chicago, a few other college students and I cheated a little. We joined the choir and we had great seats and could observe the evangelist close up. We were reasonably good singers back then anyhow. In every one of these crusades it was always inspiring to hear Bev Shea with his rich baritone voice sing his signature song which was, "I'd Rather Have Jesus." I didn't realize it until I heard Shea on the TV interview that he wrote the music of this well-known gospel song - the words of which are a devotion in & of themselves:

"I'd rather have Jesus than silver or gold;
I'd rather be His than have riches untold;
I'd rather have Jesus than houses or lands,
I'd rather be led by His nail pierced hand.

Than to be a king of a vast domain
Or be held in sin's dread sway,
I'd rather have Jesus than anything
This world affords today.

I'd rather have Jesus than men's applause;
I'd rather be faithful to His dear cause;
I'd rather have Jesus than world-wide fame,
I'd rather be true to His holy name.

He's fairer than lilies of rarest bloom;
He's sweeter than honey from out of the comb;
He's all that my hungering spirit needs,
I'd rather have Jesus and let Him lead."

Thought of the Day

“One’s only rival is one’s own potentialities. One’s only failure is failing to live up to one’s own possibilities.  In this sense, every man can be a king, and must therefore be treated like a king.”

~ Abraham H. Maslow

Good morning, Amy.  I need a navigator, too, but do pretty good when using the car's GPS.  You sure got an early start this morning.

Good Morning Everyfriend...and a special Good Morning to you, Joanie.  You take such good care of us and give us such nice "goodies" every morning.  Thank you.

Joy, you did not come across as complaining.  Rather there was a wistful note in your voice as though you were thinking of days past and not to be any more.  And that's all right!  We all do that from time to time.  Our memories are what sustain us.

I'll be off to feed the doggies...me too...in a few minutes.  They will be here promptly at 7 to let me know it's time.

I wish you all a wonderful day.  Ours is to be sunny and reach the 70s by mid afternoon.  Right now it's 37 and the furnace is running.

Good Saturday morning.....dry and partly bright so far....

Gloria, glad I never missed your birthday as our BT hub went down, the light flashing from a stable blue to a flashing red, and another telephone call to BT had them sorting it out from there end, R then had to initialise it. Yet before it came back they made an app to send another BT engineer out...next Thursday, yes a 6 day wait....

Molly, nothing like buying some new plants to cheer oneself up... yellow this time of year brings out my gloom....

Junedrabek, wasn't that kind of your " sweet young girl " to come to your aid and help you set up a new pass-word?

Joy, I am with you when you mention you no longer can do various chores...My MS has been rather bad this last week or so, made worse after I have tackled some house hoovering ( vacuuming. ) In my mind I can and will still do these chores but my body reacts and tells me NO....
.......................................................................

Well I got on the phone yesterday chasing my birdseed up, usually it arrives within 24 to 48 hours at my old address but this time round they had an agency worker who supposedly didn't know the area ( they have sat-nav ) so my delivery never got here and went back, now it is out again for delivery Monday after I told the girl to look for a large brown landmark sign on the A road he will be travelling on....

Also another let down yesterday was in making my chosen hospital appointment online, before our line went down....it came up and told me " no appointments wetre available " so much for giving me a choice of hospitals.....It did give me a box to input my MS Specialist Nurse and MS Consultant request for an appointment in, which I done......I got in touch with my MS Centre who confirmed the best hospital for me to go with, and that is the one I am sticking to.....

Good morning everyone.
Looks like bis and Amy are it so far. Amy glad you had good time doing the Quilting. here the Maple trees are leafed out,so are the lilac bushes but they never either (lavender or whits) had any flowers this year. the other trees except the black walnuts are budding hard, too early  for the walnut trees, grass sure is nice and green. I have been busy moving and piling up junk (cleaning up) to sell when the price of scrap goes back up. today until Bob comes after his skid steer I am going to do some  landscaping around the green
house.

Good morning, Janie.   Thanks for your appreciation.  Forecasters keep saying we're to get rain, but all we seem to get is lots of thunder.

Jackie/Vanilla--Good morning. You sure have had frustration between your delivery, your appointment and your phones.

Good morning, Lloyd.  Don't work too hard doing that landscaping.

Good morning Vanilla
We have a 24 hour phone service to MT, being Manx Telecom.
And they will talk you through any Broadband or Wi Fi problem.

But if it is something that is unknown to the customer in that they cannot understand the computer technology, then an Engineer will take over your computer and fix the problem from the telephone exchange.

And if need be, an engineer to your home would be in two days.

Hi everyone.  It has been a rather long night as woke up at 2 am and wasn't able to go back to sleep.  So a little after 5 am I got up and got cleaned up and dressed for the day, washed my CPAP hose and related equipment that can be washed, unloaded the dishwasher and am now in my office for the morning.  I should get a lot done getting an early start.  We are predicted to get up to 72 sunny degrees this afternoon.  Yesterday Pat and I went to the bar-b-que restaurant for lunch and then drove down to our new Aldi's.  They were busy but there was parking spaces.  It is the nicest Aldi's I have seen, well organized and small enough that you are not exhausted when you finish shopping.  They are going to give the other large grocery stores some competition.

I expect to have a quiet day today with nothing on the schedule.  I will probably see if I an have a quick nap sometime this morning and will also rest this afternoon.  I did get to feeling better yesterday morning and Pat and I agreed we had enjoyed a very pleasant afternoon.

Joan, if you have never had a pedicure I would certainly suggest you give it a try.  They do more than just cut your toes as they trim dead skin away.

deAngel, do you have a screened or glassed in porch?

June, so glad the young lady was able to salvage your Gmail account by resetting your password.

Gloria, have you ever tried using the electric riding carts in the supermarkets?  It certainly cuts down on the exhaustion in your shopping although it isn't easy to reach items on the higher shelves.

JoanFL

Good morning, Kelly.

Larry--Good morning.  Sorry you didn't get much sleep.  A  couple naps today would be good.  I guess I am going to have to try a pedicure.

Good Morning Everyone!

Patio was wet this morning, so guess we got a shower last night.  They say lots of rain this weekend, but the percentage of chance has gone down.

Sun when are they going to do the hand?  I understand the sugery is very successful.

Joanie, thank you for breakfast, but I am going to pass this morning, going out for breakfast with the men of the church and a guest speaker this morning.

And I need to get a move on.

Gloria

Good morning everyone, finally up 'n at 'em this morning. Does me no good every time I go out anywhere. Wears me out, and will be out this evening,  too.

MARY ANN   I saw on the news the destruction rom the earthquake in Japan but have no idea where Sato and Sachiko live.

JANE  it is a bright and sunny morning here.

JUNE  I worked most of my married life.

JOY  I think we all have our days to have a pity me party. We do get over it. Like you when I get groceries in the cold things are taken care of and the rest will get done when I get to it. Getting to see my great grandson is what I am looking forward to. He is now 8 months old and last time I saw him was Thanksgiving. They grow so fast at that age.

JENNY  thank you. Never too late for birthday greetings. Hope you do not get a lot of snow or ice.

SUN  thank you. Glad you went to the doctor about your hand. Start practicing typing and using the mouse now with your other hand. Do not want you missing while your hand heals from the surgery.
.
KELLY  good morning. Have a wonderful day.

JOAN  apple fritters are always great. Food for thought is copied to save and share. Thank you for all today's goodies.

AMY  you are like I was. I would drive anywhere as long as I had a good navigator.

JANE  it is 48° here now and I love it.

JACKIE  goodness I would have stayed away from the computer too if I saw anything flashing.

LLOYD  looks like you have a busy day planned.

LARRY  only place I have been that has those carts is Walmart and Target. Markets I go do do not have them.

HAL  have a good day.

Mary Ann

Gloria, both Sachiko and Sato live in Yokohama and Sachiko has a cottage at Fujiyama (not sure of that spelling).  She has shown us pictures of both places.  I sent an e-mail to Sato so I hope he is able to answer me.  I really think the earthquake is further south of Yokohama and that they are not affected.

Our temperature is now in the mid-60s and we should get into the low 70s.  Great!!!

Sandy

Good Afternoon,
from the beautiful Rocky Coast,
of Maine.

Good weather ahead,
for the next 10 days.   Getting warmer,
sweater type weather predicted.
Hooray!

My son (the computer Guru) is coming over
to my home this week to get me set up
to go cable tv free.     I have been
fretting about it,  and having him by
myside will insure that it all
goes as smoothly as possible.

He actually used to work for the Time
Warner Cable Co,   so he knows
what he is doing,  instead of me
having to go it on my own.

Hooray.

All is well,  here.
You all have a good day
Sandy

Hi Sandy
I have only a 19 inch television and can only watch TV through the laptop.

But I have come to the conclusion that in my case I watched too much television.  And I try only to watch a few hours a day and leave the television off a good part of the day.

Kelly

Good afternoon, just a little after 12. on another beautiful day, but still a little windy. Ginny, my friend that use to clean for me and said she would like to come out and vistit this PM.  she lives about and hour and a half up the island from me.

Joan thanks for goodies.

Maryann, I was also wondering about Sato., I miss his poems and pictures.

Larry, my husband built our porch, and it is all windows, but I can put screens in, in the summer., I love setting out there, and of couse, it is a change from being in the house all day.  I also have and open porch.

Gloria, glad to you had a nice birthday.

Joy, I feel the same as you, I can still do my laundry, make my bed, cook, etc.  but do it very slowly, I always  say, I am in great shape if I did not have to walk and breath.  I guess at 92 I cannot complain, when I see others.  I do have a pity party once in awhile, when I think of no family near byl  I depend on my neighbors. A good neighbor comes in every two weeks, changes my bed and vacuumings, she is not much on dusting, but I am not going to say anything.

I do have cablevision, and I have to take a certain package to get the golf channel, but that is one of my main enjoyments, I do not go to the movies any more and once a month I go to a Red Hat luncheon. So thats the only money I spend on myself.

Joy, my dear one, I hope that what I wrote didn't sound like criticism. I was trying to point out that I feel the same as you do at times..we are bound to remember the "good times" and wish we could do now as we did then. I think every single one of us has days when we feel "down", and just being able to trust our friends with our feelings is one of the great, good things about being a part of this group of loving people. And I sure can associate with doing some chore and then being all beat up afterwards. The stamina just isn't available any more. I am still weary from my dental visit of two days ago. Big Hugs girl, and welcome to the crowd of sharers.

Jenny, I have been following your weather on the t.v. and it sounds like winter just doesn't want to leave your area. This too will pass, and I hope it is soon. It is time for Springtime in your life and the lives of others in your area. I am just so thrilled about Michelle. She is one of the valiant ones for sure.

Sun, my prayers are with you dear. It is not going to be a very good time for you in the healing process. It will hamper your operating the elec. cart you use too. Since your daughter works, I am going to pray you can find a companion to come in during the time you are alone. Maybe your doctor can recommend someone in that area of care giving. God Bless you dear.

Vanilla, it sounds like your MS Center is truly a good help for you. I am happy  that you were helped in locating the right hospital. That is an important issue.

Bis, I would love to hear some thunder out here, the sun is shining so brightly I feel the need to put on my dark glasses. All my windows are on the East side as is my computer..at right angles to the window. Maybe a brimmed cap will help..it DOES…must look pretty crazy but makes it easier on the eyes.

Some weariness has hit me, so I'm going to lie down for a bit.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Joy

June, dear,  don't worry about what you said.  I certainly did not take it as criticism.  No problem at all.   Thank you for your comments.  I guess lots of us get to feelings like that at one time or another.  As I said before, I am grateful that I am able to do the things that I can.

Joy

Molly

Today has been a really good day including a long visit with my son - he just left a few minutes ago - and a call from Mohamed on a clear phone connection so I had no trouble hearing him.  Chaps planted several beautiful plants for me - bright red and pink with beautiful deep green leaves - in the side yard and I will enjoy them each time I walk out that way.  We had a good conversation while enjoying lunch and then he snuck some ice cream!  He left a few minutes ago to visit with his wife's Mom, who is now living with her older daughter after quickly selling her house.  That sell was truly a God-send!  Mohamed is still grading end-of-semester final exams, while also working with the moving crew assigned to his new apartment.  Very busy man and sounded so tired.

Hope all had a great day.  Enjoy the rest of the weekend.
