Soda Shoppe Week of April 17

Larry, Cathie has a Brother b&w laser printer which cost around  $200.  Toner is $50 at Sam's  for about 3000 copies.  It gets a lot of use as her school only has one copier for 60+ teachers and waiting in line is not her forte. Math teachers use a lot of copies for worksheets, lessons etc.

I have an HP Printer/Scanner.  I agree ink is expensive and since I seldom make color copies so quit buying the color cartridges.

Times have sure changed.  The first copy machine I ever worked with was a wet copier where you put your original between to pieces of film paper, got an image and then ran the film thru a chemical bath and hung them up to dry :(.  that copier and the old mimeograph were the bane of my existence for several years until I worked up the totem pole :).

MaryTX--I used one of those wet copies years ago when I had a summer job.  It sure was messy.

Joan, cartridges for the smaller printers are nearly as much as for my laser and my cartridge lasts a lot longer than those smaller cartridges.

I don't recall using a wet copier and for mimeograph, I could send it to another department for copying.  I was in charge of Word Processing for a time and the Xerox copy machine (huge) was in my room and I was able to make my own copies.  At home I've had various printers and don't recall what I had before my first laser.  A desk jet was good, but I needed both b/w and color cartridges and I didn't print enough color, so bought a laser for $100 and that was fine until I either changed programs or computer and they were not compatible.

Windows 10 goofed up my present printer, making it necessary for me to turn it on to work, but it prints beautifully.

Mary Ann--Thanks for explaining about the different printers.

Hal, I wondered where you were yesterday. I have done similar things with my post, or Non-posts. Sure I had written them, but evidently didn't click on Post. "Tired out" is my alias..welcome to the rest of us. Our news shows Houston practically flooded out, so hope you get as much a you need and no more.

Lloyd, give a fair chance, a dog will be the most loyal companion human beings will ever have…cats included…they will care for you even when you don't care for them. You are very lucky to have Luckie.

Janie, I have already prayed for you to have a great day…no stress.

Phyllis, we are so fortunate to be able to take our naps when needed. I have been up just a little over four hours, and my eyes are wanting to close already. The temperature is on it's way to 88 degrees. Seems too much after so many mornings of overcast. My A.C. is at work already.

Larry, I have a lazier printer and the ink seems to last almost forever. The first batch did not last long, but those I have bought since then are great. The lamp fell to the floor Larry, it was the light weight shade that ended up in my face. Quite a wake up surprise.

Hal, my toner comes in a big cartridge and they are quite costly in my estimation, but last and last. I do hope our Gloria is O.K., she was quite tired last evening. But who of us isn't tired ? I am saying a prayer for her.

Mary Ann, my cartridges cost $49.99 . I have a Brother printer.

Gloria….there you are ! If you were still  awake at three a.m. you needed to sleep later this morning. I too am the last of my family…some cousins, but not nearby. My boys are busy too, especially Gary and Dori, they are on the go all the time in their religious duties, and Dan and Nancy are too far distant to be here often. They come down from Santa Cruz once a year. But if I have a need…they are there for me, as yours are.

Mary Ann, my Brothers printer was 90 dollars, just black and white, which is all I need. Most all of my pictures are on my Computer and external disk.

Time to take this body out for a walk. And probably have lunch downstairs, and a program at 1:30. Star Wars movie and discussion…..I may stay, I may come home and sleep.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Mary Ann

The amount I mentioned for my laser cartridge was for a previous printer, much larger, maybe more commercial.  I don't remember what the cost was for this printer but I am very happy with the printer and the cartridge does last a long time.  I have a HP printer.

Mary Ann

JoanFL

June--It was a good thing that lampshade wasn't heavy.  You could have been wounded if it was.  Enjoy your walk, your lunch and possibly the movie.

Mary Ann--Truthfully, I don't need to buy cartridges near as often as when I was doing PSP and printing photos on photo paper.

Hi Jackie
The problem with PIP is it is unfair.

Only people with disabilities or those who have mobility problems caused by other conditions know what problems they have and how it affects them.

Not someone with a click board and a form with tick boxes!

As for enough on the subject, that is not the best idea, as it needs to be talked about so people in charge of our welfare know  the problems people face.

Good evening, what a day, got up to 80, had doors open, and over head fan on.  Made potatoe pancakes, with my fish to night.

June, glad to see your first day back went well, bet you are tired to night.  I know I am,  I open my 70 year old cedar chest, and got the summer cloths out, and put away the winter things., My bed is piled up high, have to clear it off, before I go to bed.

Maryann, I also have and HP printer which I am very happy with, I use to print a lot of pictures every month, as I took all the pictures at Red Hats, and made a scrap book.  After 15 years I ask someone else to do it, but no takers, so I just stopped.  It is cost a lot to print.

Hi Sandy
I think the off switch is a good idea for the television, so much in the way of repeated programmes!!

Bis, it was just a small bedside lamp with a small paper shade..no danger at all, just surprise to be awakened with a lamp shade on your face. I wish I could have seen it all happen..must have been Hillarious.

Janie, I am so happy you made it through your day, and I'm sure TLH will take good care of her Grammie if you explain it was a tiring day.

Lindancer, most people enjoy  things like the scrap book you did with pictures, but when needed to take over the job themselves, no one is interested. We have a lady here who has been President of an organization for five years…supposed to be a three year limit…but no one will take the job, so she continues.

I did go down for lunch, then on to watch the Starwars Four..it netted Billions of dollars from the public. I spent probably 30 minutes, bored out of my senses and got up and left. It was a two and a half hour movie. Took another trip down stairs to go to the library and over half of the viewers had left.Sort of tells you something about our generation doesn't it ?
As long as we are here, let's dance.

JaneS

Joanie, my eyes would like to take a nap but my body is tense that it won' let me relax enough to go to sleep.  Maybe I'll try to get to bed early again tonight.  I slept well last night and I was in and settled by about 10.  I might try for even earlier tonight.  I don't know what hours I'll get for the rest of the week but I know I'm not working tomorrow.

I hope you all had a lovely day today.  Enjoy your evening.

Oh June Star wars  , what for me and sounds like you a waste of good time  on nonsense, one has to be inclined with space fiction to enjoy  such, so your tolerance of 30 minutes far exceeded what I Could handle.

Enjoy :) Mycheal

Mycheal,  it was a wasted half hour. I'm surprised they even chose to show it. Our generation is not attuned to that type of entertainment.

I am stressed out.......attempted to change my information with Amazon, and they would not accept my address change or Visa card, a woman told me I had to contact my bank about my card. I quit. But even though I did not complete my order, they have already sent out a portion of it. I also  supposedly paid for Prime shipping too, where is that coming from if my Visa card is not acceptable. I'm too old for this sort of annoyance.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

JaneS

June, I've stopped shopping at Amazon.  Every time I try to buy something from them, there's a problem.  It's either my card, or my password or something.  I've changed my password so many times on there that it's a miracle I can still remember it.  I have a little book where I keep my passwords and the one for Amazon has so many crossed out and changed that I needed a new page.  And they still won't accept it.  And they don't recognize my Amazon Store Card either.  Even though it says it "never expires".

Good Night Everyfriend.  I'm off to Dreamland.  I'll try to get here in the morning but I have a Dr. apt and a 45 minute drive to get there so I may not see you until afternoon.  Sleep peacefully and wake to a good day tomorrow.  Make what you wish of it!

Food For Thought

Unity and the Body

While I discussed the subject of balance in "Unity & The Body", that article was admittedly more focused on the "unity" side of the "strive for unity but watch out for heresy" equation (on purpose). It did not take long, less than 30 minutes from the time I originally sent that article in fact, until I received an email implying I was leading people astray. I think with many of the articles I've written that I have been told that in some fashion, so you'd think I would expect it. I've been told how people's "blood is on my hands", etc. But it still always somehow manages to take me a bit by surprise.

This time though, I confess, I found it profoundly ironic that with an article about love & unity and the need to be careful about what we say towards others in the Body, in less than 30 minutes, I was being accused of leading people astray, not teaching correctly from God's Word, and being given a "reminder" that as a leader I "will be held to a higher accountability by God."

Why was I told this? Well because there is so much error and heresy within the "church" that I should be calling out as such. That I should be teaching people to "defend the faith" in these last days and watch out for heresy which is so common. I should be giving people Scriptures such as 2 Timothy chapters 3 and 4, and 2 Peter chapter 3, which provide clear instruction on watching out for false teachers and false teachings.

Not only can I not argue against those arguments, but I am in support of them. There is definitely heresy and nonsense that has infiltrated the church. Those types of Scriptures ARE a part of the Bible for a reason, and we would be wise to heed them. Indeed, I have written (albeit somewhat indirectly) along those lines before and for some time have had articles swirling in my head along those lines, which I'm sure will come out at some point. Scriptures such as those, the book of Jude, Matthew 24, and others are in the Bible for a reason.

But so are Scriptures such as John 17, Romans 14, and 1 Corinthians 12, all of which were major foundational Scriptures to the "Unity & The Body" article.

My personal observation has been that those that are super "gung ho" on watching out against error, calling out heresy wherever they think they see it, being quick to point out where they think others are making mistakes, seem to be some of the most "loveless Christians" I've ever seen. And of course "loveless Christians" should be an oxymoron, since "love" and "Christian" should be synonymous.

By all means, be on guard against false teaching. But by all means, also strive for unity in the Body.

Be careful not to be taken in by false teachers, yes. But also be careful that you're walking in (and speaking forth) love.

Those that focus only on the need to be ultra-careful in these last days and watch out for error, yet miss the other side of the coin are out of balance.

The Pharisee Spirit lives on today. That was one of the things that struck me not that long ago. I used to read of the Pharisees and the Teachers of the Law and what Jesus said about them (both of whom He reserved some very strong rebukes for) and just see them as "back in Bible days." Then one day the light bulb went on, and I realized that the exact same people exist today - and they are just as prevalent in our churches as they were in the days of Jesus. Just as the Pharisees and Teachers of the Law thought they were "defending the TRUE faith" in their day, such people exist today. Jesus spoke often of their blindness, hypocrisy, pride, lack of love, and much more.

The thing is they THOUGHT they were representing God. They THOUGHT they were doing God's Work. They THOUGHT they were defending what was right and true. But they THOUGHT wrong!! I'm afraid there are many who might just fit the same category today and be absolutely deceiving themselves!

With that said, on the other side, there are those that are willing to let go of or minimize the Word of God, all in the name of "unity" and "loving others." They are also very wrong, and there are some very strong Scriptures along these lines as well.

There are indeed quite a number of churches that are getting very "wishy washy" these days - very "ambivalent" about things - playing "fast and loose" with the Scriptures even on major fundamental issues of the Christian faith. This is usually because they don't ascribe the proper place to the Word of God to begin with. Although unity is important, sometimes division is sadly necessary when such people will not align themselves with the clear truth in Scripture. If it comes down to standing with a pastor or standing with God, I want to be with God. If you want to see this whole thing in action "in real life", I would encourage a read through of the "'Rationalizing Sin' Follow-Up" article which actually shows a letter from a pastor that seemed to have a faulty foundation, and my response where you will see that I do believe division is sometimes sadly necessary. (I personally believe it to be a very "eye opening" article as the pastor's letter is so representative of how many think - you can find it at the link given above at the start of this one).

In addition, the Bible says a lot about sin, the need for repentance, hell, the importance of making sure you're not on the "broad road", watching out against deception, etc. There are a lot of churches and pastors that have seriously downplayed these themes. In other words, they've gone out of balance, instead placing most or all of their emphasis on things such as God's love for us, how God's always with us & for us & wants to bless us, and how we're just to love others. Don't get me wrong: Those are important themes too (any many churches miss them) but there is a balance to be struck.

The truth is that ALL of these topics are important and worthy of consideration. Standing on the truth of God's Word is important. Defending truth is important. But so is loving others, and not just in word, but in deed. So is treating the Body of Christ as the FAMILY in Christ that it is. So is watching out for a critical, judgmental spirit. So is looking out for pride - especially "religious pride" - one of the most insidious kinds!

The truth is that there is a balance to all of this stuff and we all need to strive to find that balance.

I'm trying to do so as best I can, albeit probably making some mistakes in the process.

I hope you're striving for the same.

With love,
Chris Long

Joan, thank you, oh I know only too well how frustrating it is being without computer connection... If I know Gloria she will be up and running in no time.....

Good Tuesday morning Everyfriends......we have the sun out, it is dry but some dark clouds are circling....

I have been up early of course, took in my vegi box delivery, he turns up nice and early at 7.30am, I seem to be his only customer on this site, he comes in, turns round, then goes out, as we are the first home on the site to reach, going down....

Joan, ha ha, toys never came with a waning in our days....

I will be taking in two deliveries,  Lily's Kitchen and Betty's tearooms, one is trackable, so should be here within the next one and a half hours, just as well as both me and R have a nurse appointment, or vampire appointment mid day at our new surgery....a good excuse to come home, make a cup of tea and get out the biscuits, well I have to replenish my blood, don't I?   ;)  ;D

I am trying to attract birdies to my brand new feeder and water bowl since my birdseed delivery came yesterday, but so far with no luck, oh yes I hear them and see the occasional small bird, but cant yet show it the way to where its food waits...

Amy

Good morning everyone.

I do believe we will have another beautiful day here...very little rain fell during the night. Have yet to hear the frog singing, guess they are still snuggled down in the mud.

We are off to the city today, need to return some things at Costco and pick up a few things at Fabricland..

Yesterday was fun with the ladies, I did get another quilt cut out so when I am done working on this one I have another one to start.

Hope Gloria gets her computer fixed, it is so frustrating when you can't be here with your friends.

Good morning Jackie, those little feathered friends will soon find their way to your buffet for them.

Joan, thank you for breakfast..

Enjoy your day everyone.
