Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

I did a quick gasp and an "OH NO!" when I couldn't get in this morning.  Then I emailed my friend, Joanie, and she said "yes, we are down."  Another gasp and then, there you all were and I breathed a relieved "AHHHH!  Friends!"

How did it happen that we have become so close?  I really miss you all even if it's only for a couple of hours or whatever!

I'm doing a bit of laundry and starting to get ready for my trip to Texas.  Not packing yet but making dog food for the freezer so it's ready to feed while I'm gone.

Jackie, I looked at your pictures of the ocean and the doggies and I'm soooo envious!  What a beautiful country you live in!

According to our Michael/Oldiesmann, with the new host the  automatic backup of the site each night sometimes shuts everything down.  When we notify him it is apparently a simple procedure for him to restart everything.  So nothing to panic about.   ;)  Let's just be glad that the backup is being done!

Question?

When I come to this site a block pops up saying "You have a new personal message.  Would you like to read it?"  When I click on OK nothing happens.  Does anyone know what this is all about?

Joy, not realy as R doesnt have any spiritual connections, re, the beauty of a place, or how blessed he should be feeling.......I was the one who wanted to come here, but I feel he is ok with his new surroundings.....We did/ do face a major financial outlay...the previous owners had a ten year warranty which the last 2-2& a half years of it should be passed over to us but the warranty company are asking for the previous owners paperwork on the work to our property, re, every 3 years our properties have to be painted, re with the warranties chosen paints....needless to say, we found out only too late that our previous owners had been using a dubious and inferia paint which has left the warranty void, so we are facing some financial outlay and work that needs doing..... The strange thing was, we had a survey done on our property which showed some work that needs doing, and he quoted a sum, which the previous owners left us that amount in cash, but kept it quiet about them voiding their own warranty, how crazy of them.....and of course it left both of us, not too happy bunnies......

Mary Ann

Jackie, some of my immigrant ancestors came from Dorset - Beaminster.

I could not get here early this morning, did other things, then around 10 am I was able to make comtact.

Jackie, some people can't be trusted.  I hope you are able to take care of your new place as you know it should be taken care of - and come out OK financially.  From your pictures, I think you have a lovely place to live and I know all of us would love to see it in person.

Mary Ann

JoanFL

Jackie--I viewed your pictures.  That's a lovely area where you live, and I hope "R" grows to appreciate it.  That was not nice of the sellers not to reveal that they'd broken the warranty.  Here if you fail to disclose something like that, the sale could be considered null and void.

Joy--Enjoy the fruit.:)

Janie--My day's routine is all messed up when I find my friends here are not accessible.  That happens to me, too, but I X it off, finish what I am doing and then manually access the message.

Jeanne Lee--Thanks for the info about the site's downtime.

Mary Ann--I was out doing errands when the site became accessible this morning, but see we were back up and running shortly after I got home.

Hi Joan
Good afternoon Joan

Hanging in, trying to update avatar & temp thingy but info I save to tell me how is always on the "wrong" computer.  Have enjoyed all the chatter but buried under spring work.  So much to do before painters come to do the whole outside.  Yes, Joan, my demerits will spread into next year.

Oops, that avatar didn't land where it was supposed to... will try to change.  Selfie taken yesterday & shocking changes from the one in 2009 (I checked).

Think deep down I have been feeling a tad on edge this week as we had both registered with our new Dr surgery and when we took the papers in we both made an app, R with his Diabetes high sugar level and me with my MS and getting a new MS Specialist Nurse and Neurologist which has to be done via Dr referral.....so we have our joint apps tomorrow evening....I will and plan on telling him or her about my continual bleed of over a year now.....My Oncologist of last April said to me that I would only go back to see him if after my then opp I had cancer, so as I never had cancer nothing further took place but, he did say that if I bleed after 6 months, I must go back to him....The downside is I have never stopped my bleed, albeit a daily watery bleed with a tide mark surrounding it.....this has now been going on 5 months after the 6 months after my opp last April....The bleed doesn't hinder me but I know hand on heart I would be totally crazy to ignore it, as something is obviously still going on.....think I am just on egde incase I get booked for a hospital visit, I really want to leave all that behind me....

JeanneP

Jackie.  The area looks beautiful. Made me Homesick for UK. Looks to be a great place to retire.  Does look quite hilly but nice areas to walk . Now will you have Medical places close enough and good shopping area. Is it close to sea anywhere.?  Is the village close bye?

Looks like nice area for the dogs to get outside into a fenced area.

My Mum had a place down in Kent for the Winter time. Looks a lot like it.

Jane, that means that someone has sent you a Personal Message.  Go to the line at the top of the page and click on "My Messages" and scroll down until you find a link to click on and that will bring up the message.

Good Afternoon,

Jackie,  I love the sea view!   What is the island in the background?   I'm currently reading "The Road To Little Dribbling: Adventures of an American in Britain".   The author is basically walking most of England from "bottom to - I guess the top (he's only in Oxford now and I'm not quite half-way done with the book).  He started in the area where you have moved.  How neat to now be able to picture what it really looks like.

What a morning!  I haven't had this much going on in ages!
My Project du Jour was to clean the refrigerator.   I was still checking e-mail and such when #1 son called (on his coffee break) to chat a bit.
He caught me up with Miss Ellen's Adventure.  She and her friend had driven to Dallas last night and were to take an early morning flight to NYC.  I assume they have arrived and hope they have found their way to where they're staying in Brooklyn.

While we were talking, #2 son appeared - ready to plant the three new flower beds in my back yard.  That took the rest of the morning, during which I cleaned the fridge and fixed us sandwiches for lunch.

There are large ceramic pots/planters in the center of each side bed - surrounded by perennials.  The bed under the windows has boxwood and hostas planted.  Later on, there will be a hydrangea in the middle of that bed and dwarf crepe myrtle at the ends of the side beds.
We'll plant the pots with annuals toward the end of April.
Everything looks a bit scraggly right now - but I think it will be very colorful and pretty when things get going.  The perennials have colorful foliage and are planned so there will be something blooming from Spring until Fall.

About 5 minutes after he left,  the a/c guys arrived to give that unit its annual physical.

They have now gone - and I'm ready to "set a spell".

Hope Everyfriend Everywhere is having a lovely day.

Mary Ann

Wednesday so Tom, Terry, Jan, Dot and I planned to meet for lunch.  Dot has been busy and had a headache so decided to stay home.  Terry said Jan would not be with us, so there would just be the three of us.  We ate at Yesterdog, a hot dog place (I thought we'd eat at Wolfgang but that is next week) and as we waited for Terry, we saw Terry, Jan and her parents come in.  So there were five of us.  Dot would have loved it.  My hot dog was two chili dogs and a root beer.  From the looks of others' dogs, we all had chili dogs.  We covered a lot of subjects so we do not eat and run.

We've had constant rain nearly all day and I think the storms will go south of us, more like in Kalamazoo.  Lake Michigan has whitecaps and the water temperature is 34 degrees - too cold!

Mary Ann

JoanFL

Donna--You're welcome.

Callie--It's been busy around your house today.  You're yard will be beautiful once everything "takes hold".

Mary Ann--Chili dogs sound good.  I haven't had one in years.

Lloyd:  So sorry to hear about your fire.  It is always a shock at how fast fire can cover so much space.

Gloria:  Is it you or a new Gloria - it says newbie.  New picture?

Vanilla:  Love your windows.  The entire area looks so peaceful and I see a place for walking.  Oh, to be in England in the merry month of May... and so forth.  I hope I remember correctly.

We just had a call that oldest son and wife are coming for a short visit today - they are moving to the state because of her new job and just found a place to rent for a few years.  I wish that she would  have a shorter drive to work though - Phoenix area traffic is awful.

Time for a little nap - my back acted up this morning.

halkel

Good Afternoon Everyone!

Looks like everyone has had a busy morning, as well as myself.  I had to go back to my old PC and get some reports from blood work that they performed.  My urologist called me yesterday afternoon and said he didn't like the blood work that he ordered and wanted me to gather all the information I could, even from an old operation I had over 20 years ago.  That office said they had no records that old.
So looks like I am back to square one, not knowing what is going on, or what he is going to recommend.  But, what will be, will be.  Like the old saying: this world isn't my home, I am just passing through.
I am just tired of doctors offices and labs and imaging centers.   And I know my daughter and husband are tired of having to drive me to the appointments at Wilford Hall, parking area is 1/2 mile from entrance.  So they drop me off at main entrance and then go park.  I like to have given out when I had to walk all over the place the last appointment.  Things are so scattered and I had to make an appointment for another ultra-scan and do the blood work.

Funny this is an old Air Force hospital and they are in the process of building a new facility, suppose to be a clinic, but it is larger in area than the old hospital. Which by the way was the largest hospital the Air Force had and serviced people from all over the world.  The old Shaw or Iran came here for cancer treatment.  Anyhow upon completion of the new "clinic" the old hospital will be torn down.

I was stationed at an Air Force base next to Lackland (Kelly AFB) when they opened the hospital back in 1960 and hopefully will see it torn down.

Jackie, I am not sure but think you were talking about what we call a Homeowners Association.  We have one in our neighborhood.  Some of them can be a real pain, depending on who is elected.  They sit the rules from the area and supposedly enforce them, like when garbage cans can be placed at curbside and put up after garbage collection and color you can paint your house and garden care (or lack thereof).  They have all kinds of rules.

June Drabek

Sun, when I moved here I was given the necklace as were all the tenants, with the order to wear it constantly. Even in the shower. Last nit I had occasion  to use it. I got so sick to my stomach, I felt I was going to faint. So I pushed the button on the necklace. Within minutes some one was at my door..all the help has a key that fits all the doors here..I asked the night nurse if he had something to stop the nausea as it made me feel faint from all the throwing up. He said yes, he could give me mylanta. I told him I needed some chipped ice as that always worked for me, He agreed. But first he took my pulse, then listened to my stomach with his stethoscope, then off he went to come back with a cup of chipped ice and a cold can of Gatorade…he said that replaced some of the electrodes that are lost by throwing up. It worked. I was able to go back to sleep, till he came back later to check up on me, and again before he went home this morning. So, do get the necklace, it is wonderful.

Feeling puny so I will back out for a while. :(
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Joy

June, I am so sorry that you weren't feeling well last night.   Hope today is a better day for you.  Sounds like a nasty bug found you.

I have one of the medical alert buttons that I wear..... have had it for almost 10 years, and thankfully, have never had to use it.

Hal, sure hope your health issues will be resolved soon.  Sounds like your doctor is on top of the situation, which is good.  Good luck!   I know what you mean about getting tired of doctor appointments, and tests.  But, if that is what will keep us going,  guess we have to make the best of things.

Joy
BIG BOX

JoanFL

Carol--How nice that your son and his wife are coming for a short visit.  Enjoy.

halkel--I know it's disconcerting to have to gather medical records and have more tests.  It's especially hard when you're not sure what your doctor is looking for.

June--I have Lifeline.  Living alone, it gives me a feeling of security.  Glad the nurse was able to help with your problems.  Sounds to me like they check often when a person is not feeling well.

Joy--I see you have a "necklace alert", too.  In six years I've had to use it twice.

CallieK, that must be the Isle of Portland you are asking about, I see it far away in the background but  I dont know too much about it but, have looked it up, and surprised to read there are 12,400 people who live on it.....The author must now be heading towards the Midlands.....

JeanneP, I have quite a distance to go to my nearest MS Therapy Centre, think 30 plus miles as the one that was nearest not long ago closed but, there is an MS centre ( not therapy ) a short distance, a 10 minutes drive heading into Weymouth which I am in the process of making enquiries, I believe they meet up on certain day of the week, month....

Halkel, we are told we have a Chairman, Treasurer and Secretary, we have met with 2 out of 3 already, I feel it will be a good thing to have re, our site....We were given a print-out from the minutes of last year so have an Idea what has taken place already......He has already asked us if we have any concerns and I brought up what R told me of one time during the day he found the entrance at top of lane, road almost blocked with 4 cars, sightsee'ers, re, the fact of emergency vehicles being blocked from entering in-case of fire, ambulance etc, and told of how this is being dealt with via the site manager versus the site owner who is a " good chap and a farmer, " who we havn't met yet....We do have site rules but it seems to be quite relaxed and our site manager is very down to earth, friendly, helpful and relaxed, we are not anticipating any problems.....
.....................................

Thank you all who have commented on my Photo[each photo's, yes it truly is a magical place to be, and I do feel very blessed.....

JaneS

I'm doing something I rarely do...having my dinner at the desk and checking up on my friends at the same time.  It's meat loaf, fried potatoes and onions and my own home canned corn.  It tastes like I just cut it off the cob!  There are leftovers if anyone is hungry.

Hopefully you will feel better soon.

Take care

June you did all the right things, happy you have the alert button to push....................Now you need another one that you push and it says "slow down June Rome was not built in one day " :) We do not rush from  activity to activity just because we feel a bit better, we slowly go and if it seems like it might be too much we go back to the apt and enjoy the window watching the movement of birds etc or a good ole nap :)

JUNE

I now have VitaCall and wear it all the time. Having had a fallin my lounge room and not able to get up,my daughter called ambulance who stood me up,in a second but also told Me all the reasons I
Needed toget it.  Sure gives me confidence when I am here by myself.
So,pleased you used yours last night and got the assistance you needed. Hope you feeling better today.
Crazy weather here, very hot yesterday but cold today. Dr Sue due here soon to give me flu injection and scripts for the next three months.

June Drabek

Hi Kelly, thank you for your kind thoughts. June

Micheal, honest, I am not knocking myself out..lots of resting in between things. This seems to be just a gut thing...probably from years and years of abuse. Or there is the slight possibility that my innards are old and tired. Denial of age is not a cure..darn it.

Junee, they seem to encourage us to use this call button, and it costs me nothing. Service  is part of my rental agreement, and they are all angels in disguise...so caring and loving. I thank God that my son encouraged me to make this move. And your Dr. Sue is another angel ! I'm so glad you have her.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

halkel

June that "old" stomach of yours is your giving you fits.  I hope it settles down and behaves itself.  I am happy that you can get a quick response when you have an episode.

Thanks to all you for your thoughtfulness on my problem.  I'm sure things will settle down soon and get back a normal routine.  It just goes to show never get too comfortable with things.... :)

Just got some more bad news.  My brother just lost his daughter-in-law.
