Food For Thought

Holding The Hands Of God
(By Milton C. Gardner, Jr.)

Hand-holding is, I believe, a tradition as old as the creation of mankind. Somehow, I can imagine that Adam and Eve must have held hands as they walked through the Garden of Eden.

Through the centuries, lovers have held hands as an expression of fondness and devotion. In times of distress--even pain and anguish--caring people have reached out to hold the hands of the afflicted and in this silent way have said, "I care."

Often, God's people hold hands as they sing or pray. Thereby, they form a "bond of love" and forge lasting bonds of brotherhood.

Sometimes parents hold the hands of a child who is dreading some pain--perhaps a shot or a medical procedure. Hand-holding is reassuring and comforting.

"Let me hold your hand," we say to a child when we cross a busy thoroughfare. Hand-holding affords protection.

As the family of God, we have the blessed assurance of God's hand to steady and secure us. He offers His hand as an expression of His tender devotion and constant love.

"For I the Lord thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee" (Isaiah 41:13).

In times of loneliness and pain, we must needs slip our hands into the strong but gentle hands of God. He loves, He cares, and He protects His own.

Thought of the Day

"The Almighty appeared on earth as a helpless human baby, needing to be fed and changed and taught to talk like any other child. The more you think about it, the more staggering it gets. Nothing in fiction is so fantastic as this truth of the Incarnation."

- J.I. Packer

Good Morning Everyfriend!  And a special "Good Morning to you, Joanie.

I'm marking my place for later since I'll need to go feed the doggies and myself and get ready for the early service at my church.  I'll be trying out my new toaster this morning to toast my English muffin.  I'll report later.

Make it a good day, Everyfriend, full of everything you love!

Good morning everyone...

No new snow over night but I do think we will get some today..

Had a great time at the craft show, they had a lot of venders with a little bit of everything there...even came home with some goodies.

Today we are heading back up to pick up daughter in loves quilt. She had it sent to the quilter and now needs to put the binding on it .She is giving this one to her Mom and Dad for Christmas.

That is about it for today, I also need to finish putting a binding on a quilt, but can only do it when hubby isn't around...tis for him for Christmas.

Phyllis ,love the Cozy and Warm graphic!!

Jane,enjoy your new toaster.

Joan, thank you for breakfast.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning, Amy.  At least you don't have to dance with any snow removal equipment this morning.  I love craft shows.  There's always something at them that I just can't resist.  I know those that receive your and your daughter-in-love's quilts, made with love, will treasure them.

I would like to say good morning but it hasnt been a good start for me....

Took another fall just before 9am, this time a fuller and heavier fall, full length down onto my front.......To make matters worse I was in my dressing gown, carrying my freshly made bowl of hot porridge in one hand, pot of opened yoghurt in the other....I certainly made a noise as I went down, R came to my rescue, I couldn't move, plus both the porridge and yoghurt flew out of my hands....Picture this, it was rather like a carry-on film....R held out his hands to pull me up, I told him I cant move yet, I will have to do it in my own time, R was dabbing bits of porridge from the corner of the sofa, from the carpet, not forgetting the bottom part of my dressing gown was literally covered with thick porridge...while in the background behind me, our Toby was having a field day from licking the yogurt from the carpet....It did take quite some time before I could push myself backwards while wrapping the lowered part of my robe up so as not to make more mess than we already had....plus some had splattered onto the bottom of the door......It did take some time for me to get up, after a few twists and turns....over these last few months I have put on extra weight, plus my MS, MS stomach bloat, and with the nerves moving around inside the top of my right leg sure didn't help.....Compared to my previous fall of last week, this one was worse, but truly thanking the Lord, I never caught my head, nor broke any bones, nor came away with any bleeding...just a large carpet burn over my right knee, my bad leg, plus I felt the very hot porridge touching my leg at some point....This did leave me shaky afterwards, so I sat down for some time before finishing what was left of my cold porrige, before deciding to make myself some fresh......

Links to where this all happened....the first photo is from the kitchen to the porch, then I went flat out from the porch, straight through the glassed door opening into the lounge, in front of the sofa....the second photo is in reverse, the lounge into the porch alongside my walker....Of course my fear is, one day I shall go into the glass panellings....This is not the first time I have tripped here, usually I have steadied myself on the wooden part of the close panelled door, but not this time, I went straight through the gap....Links...

Hi everyone.  It is chilly here this morning as it was yesterday.  It is predicted we will hit 50 degrees about 3 pm today.  I will attend Sunday School and then come back home and pick up Pat so we can go to church together.  I will call before coming home to be sure she feels up to going to church.  Yesterday was a very laid back and restful day for both of us.  We did go out to Wifesavers for a good chicken dinner.  They have very good meals for a very reasonable price.  I will rest and watch football this afternoon.

Jenny, when I remark about the cost of maintenance for my wife she usually responds "well I'm worth it!" and she is.

JaneS, I had an aunt and uncle who ran a rock shop in downtown Denver for many years.  He gave my mother some beautiful rocks (geodes) that he had cut in half and polished.  Nice that you were gifted with a new toaster and you can go ahead and use it before getting it under the Christmas tree.

Joan and Phyllis, that sure is a cute graphic for this week.

Jackie, certainly not a good way to start any day.  Just glad you were not hurt more or had a broken bone.  Several years ago we bought a utility cart that we use everyday. It looks nice  and is heavy duty.  It rolls easily and has a nice handle at the end to hold onto.  Perhaps something like this would be useful to you.  Here is a link so you can see what I am talking about.  https://smile.amazon.com/Seville-Classics-Industrial-All-Purpose-Utility/dp/B00BN46WIQ/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1481463905&sr=8-3&keywords=utility+carts+with+wheels

Good morning, Vanilla-Jackie.  (Or maybe I should say Bad Morning).  That sure was some big fall and also a big mess.  I am glad you didn't break any bones or cut yourself.  Imagine you will be sore for a few days from it all.  Thanks for the links, so we can "picture it".

Larry--Good morning.  It'd be nice if Pat felt up to going to church and out to eat.

Good morning everyone, a tad warmer this morning that yesterday but still in the 20's Sun is shining for now but clouds are starting to roll in and be with us all day till it starts snowing this evening. Sure makes me glad I do not have to go out.

JANE  my daughter used to collect rocks from every place she went. She got one when we went to the top of Mt. Washington in NH. It went to San Siego with her and is now in Arizona. I think that is the only one she kept. A toaster that works good is wonderful, so happy they surprised you with that new one.

PHYLLIS  that puppy is in the right place when there is snow and cold outside. Sure fits the weather we will soon be having. Thanks for sharing your creations with us every week.

JOAN  I will enjoy an English muffin. I have not bought any in quite awhile and do like them. I like all fruit so surprise me. AHA now I know why I lost weight. I do not walk by all those places in chuckles. Love Foood for Thought. Another keeper. Thank you for all today's goodies.

AMY  must be hard working on the quilt for your DH when he cannot see what you are doing.

JACKIE  glad you did not really hurt yourself with that fall. I noticed you had the photos in Photobucket. I have been having trouble getting in there since the end of October.  Keep emailing them and get the same runaround. I don't carry anything. I have a tray I put on the seat of my rollator and put things on that. I do not walk anywhere without the rollator.

LARRY  I have half a geode my daughter sent me. The big one show how beautiful they are inside.

LARRY HANNA...
...thank you for the link...not seen one of those before for using inside the home.....Have to admit it would have stopped my breakfast from flying over the place, and would have steadied me as I walked.... Not sure our Toby would appreciate it, sure it would frighten him out of the way, same as my rollator does, although I dont need that around the home, well not yet but I am sure that day will come...

JOAN...
...I could really do with getting some weight off, at least as and when I fall, it wouldn't be so hard to get myself back up again....although a lot of my trouble is terrible MS stomach bloat...possibly to do with bowel and bladder function changes...

GLORIA...
...these last few weeks I am finding photobucket a kindof hit and miss...a few weeks ago they were doing some kind of maintenance, think it was the time I lost my Benji and I desperately wanted to get his photo on here so, I registered once again with a hosting site I had used a few years ago, only that time it was free, but not now, you have to pay....but at least you dont get all these sordid pop - ups as you do with photobucket....I will still use photobucket as and when....Oh and the other site is called......Imageshack.us
....it is much more on a professional basis, and with no irritating adverts..

Good Morning Everyone, from the icy cold,  rocky coast of Maine.
No doubt about it.   Winter has arrived and we need to remember that when getting ready for the day.

Jackie
So sorry to hear that you took another tumble. That is no way to start the day,  on the floor covered with Oatmeal!

I have found,  as my body has changed,
(with me it is only the eyesight),  that
my  brain  has a remarkable ability to
go into denial...

And try to act and react to life's situations,  as it use to do before my bodies newly acquired limitations had permanently settled in.

So it is not surprising Jackie that you still
think that you can move around with your hands full,  and are shocked when you take a tumble and everything turns to crap.

I hope that you didn't seriously hurt your self,
other then your pride,  which always takes a beating when  your body let's you down.

Oh boy,  I think warmer weather is just around the corner.   Not sure for how long,  but some
relief from the cold appears to be on the way .

Have a good day,  everyone.

Good morning, Gloria.  Aren't you glad you don't have to shovel that white stuff?

Vanilla-Jackie--You could give me some weight.  No matter how hard I try, I can't gain.

Sandy--Good morning.  I think it's going to be a LONG time until it really gets warm.:)

Good morning, Callie.

I have that same cart. I purchased it in 2006 and it was just afterward that I fell and broke my right foot. When I tried to use crutches, I felt unbalanced and that I was going to fall over backward. Although my cats at the time hated it, it worked perfectly for the three months I was immobilized.

Jackie, it might be something for you to consider.

I'm checking in before heading to drag up more Christmas decorations & put the porch lights up before we get another winter blast this afternoon.  Almost felt balmy this morning (above freezing) damp & spring like.

Jackie, so sorry about the fall but a blessing you have Richard there to help.  One thing about being alone is nobody knows if you are down or missing.  These cats just won't bark & raise a racket... I need a dog~~  take care & hope you don't end up with too many colors of purple, green & yellow to go with your Christmas outfit.

Now I know not everyone enjoys and gets a thrill at the sight of snow, won't name names, Joannie, but I do & check the Monarch Pass in CO nearly every day.  It is just above where my son & family love to camp, too high for me to stay overnight at 10,000+ feet.  Anyway, near white out this morning so I'm bringing the link to share with Gloria & anyone else that wants a look.  I am green with envy but don't have the snow blower out yet, got it out last year & nary a chance to dance with it like Amy does.   :'(  Have a super Sunday!

Joy

Good morning, Joan and all the other friends.

Thank you, Joan, for the English muffins this morning.  Another one of my favorite things for breakfast.  I usually keep some in the freezer.  I really like the ones that Walmart has in their dairy section over the ones in the packages.  The dairy ones seem to be a little thicker.  I love the graphic for this week.   Plus, the Italian Pasta Diet is a keeper,  I have saved it and will send it onto my Italian brother-in-law.  He will like that.

Jackie,  I am so sorry to hear about your fall.  Even tho I don't have MS,  I do have trouble walking and I always try to hold onto something, especially when I am carrying something. Also, like Gloria, I use my rollater seat as a "tray" to carry food items.  Or, I will carry a big item from one place to another.

I had a nice day yesterday with my DIL, her sister and niece.  Went to our local Ag Center who has a Christmas farmer's market/craft show on Sat. during November and December.  Got a lot of goodies and some small gifts. I also did buy some home-made cookies, as I just can't stand to make cookies anymore.   They were expensive, but by the time I bought the ingredients and the time I would have  spent, I guess it was worth it.  I  got 4 or 5 different kinds and will make up  containers for my family and several friends here where I live. I have had them before, so I know they are good.  The gal who makes them has been at this market for about 30 years and her items sell out very quickly.  That was the first stand I went to, and she was already sold out of a lot of the most popular ones. Bought a few other items for gifts.  Then, we went out to lunch, and was able to watch the opening ceremonies for the Army/Navy game.  It was a beautiful scene watching all the groups form on the field.  Looked like it must have been several thousand guys and girls.

When I got home, I finished the little Christmas tree out in our sitting area and then did 4 loads of laundry.  A lot to do in one day, but it felt good to get those chores done.

Nothing going on today, except for a nap or two.

Hope everyone will have a good Sunday afternoon.

Joy

Shirley

Maybe this is a dumb question, but why does my post skip so many spaces & not let me correct?  I went back 3 or 4 times trying to fix & that one line defies me.  I'm supposed to be dragging more boxes up so maybe a thump on the head to get me moving?

Good morning, Radioman.

Shirley--Good morning.  I like to look at snow in a photo, but don't want to live where it snows anymore--been there, done that.  Thanks for the link.  I don't know why your line stops in the middle.  I'll go into "modify" and see what's happening.  Edit:  I just did a delete after the last word in the two sentences that ended in the middle and it's fixed.

Good morning, Joy.  Sounds like your outing yesterday was fun and productive.

Denver

A good Sunday morning HELLO to EVERYFRIEND!

Thank you so much, JOAN, for all the goodies this morning. You know there are a few of us that would like nothing better than to share some weight with you....  just not fair that you can not put a bit of weight on your bones.

JACKIE, I am so sorry to read about your fall.  Of course I am thankful that you did not break anything or hit your head.....however, I am sure you are going to be plenty sore.  The pictures helped to see where you fell, so thank you for sharing them.  My concern is, that I see several throw rugs around on the floor, and you know they just are a terrible tripping hazard!  They look nice, of course, but it is a concern.  Do you think you tripped on one of them or the gown/Robe? The cart Larry suggested sure would help you to have something to hold onto and would be a place to put the items you are trying to carry.  I saw one a couple of days ago that was half that size, that would work perfectly for you.  I thought you have a "rollator"?  It would serve many purposes for you.  Sorry for the mess too......that is the worse as stuff doeS fly all over the place!  HUGS.

We had a bit more snow over nigh.....and now we head again into the deep freeze!  Urgggg. Just wish it would not get so darn cold!

I am off to have a real muffin this morning....

My Broncos will be on the tube soon....GO BRONCOS!

Enjoy your day, friends.

SNOW!  HERE!  NOW!  ALL DAY PREDICTED!

Jackie, has no one told you that you are supposetd to EAT oatmeal...not WEAR it?  Please be more careful and I agree with Jenny about the throw rugs.

I've put in a full day and with snow coming down, I'm not in the mood to work.  The only thing that is necessary to finish today is the box for TX and the one for my granddaughter in OK.  I have everything assembled and it will take about a half hour so I'm going to close my eyes for a bit and see what happens!

Everyone take care (especially you, Jackie!

Jenny--Believe me, I am trying, but can't put on a pound.

Janie--You watch the white stuff for me.  Does that mean you will have to shovel?  Hope you're able to get some zzz's.  I am headed that way shortly.

Shirley

Well, let me tell you, Joanie, try eating 3 jumbo bags of Hershey fun size bars... since Halloween!  Good thing I finally ran out.  I was showing my son & wife this morning that it's time to quit... cause they are all gone.  I had on a zip front shirt not worn since last year & my tummy filled it out, didn't touch last year.  I have bags & bags of candy to hang on the tree but I can leave all the other kinds alone.    Thanks for fixing my post!

Sandy, I will try the 10 instead of 12 on size & see if that stops my problem.  Thanks, I aim to please.   :-[

I am stalling 'cause it's time to go outside & finish my job & then off to drag up more boxes.  Every year I say I'm not going to do this & every year I put everything up.  This year I didn't bother lying to myself.

CallieOK

Good Afternoon,

Disaster Days continue!   Went out to go to church.  Car battery deader than a doornail.  AAA guy was here in 30 minutes but had to replace the battery (well - it is as old as the car and doesn't get used on the highways any more).  He finished just about the time the pastor would have been saying the Benediction.

Shirley,  a Leadville friend posted a Facebook picture of about a foot of new snow there.  Someone replied that they had been stuck on I-70 because it was closed.  This is why I do NOT miss living there!!!!!!

Jackie,  So sorry about your "messy" fall.   I also carry things on my rollator - and I agree about the throw rugs.

JaneS,  how about making a "certificate" for Kiren - "Good For One Rock Hunting Adventure"?

Church or not,  I had planned to write Christmas cards this afternoon.  Now I'm wondering if I'll screw that up, too?

Feeling  :uglystupid2:  wishes Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

JoanFL

Shirley--Every two weeks I buy 3 family size bags of York Peppermint Patties, 2 regular bags of Hershey's dark chocolate nuggets and one family size bag of dark chocolate M & Ms.  Between my three meals, I nibble--still no weight gain.

Callie--Sorry about your car battery.  Mine is also as old as my car, and I've been thinking it's probably not got much more life in it.

For all my fussing about keeping the areas in my apartment free and clear from anything that I might trip up on (especially scatter rugs ),  I spent years before just a couple of months ago, purchasing a mat for my tub:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00J0JLYBQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

So every time I got in the tub to shower,  I worried about falling, slipping and really hurting myself.

Since I got that awesome mat, I now can
get in the shower without fearing a catastrophy..

So it is easier for me to give advice then it is for me to follow my own advise...

Today was the first time I ever wore porridge....I do not want to make a habit of it...

JENNY...
...not sure what actually happened, just happened so quick...dont know if my feet are now trudging along on the ground or....my slipper soles are suctioning onto the carpeting or rugs or, my body gave way to my MS, ( the nerves dancing in my leg ).....Jenny I placed the rugs so NOT to slip, the wood floor can be slippery, ( our Benji was always slipping on the wood ) but then so can the rugs....The rugs you see scattered around are " HugRugs " dirt trappers for soaking up wet and dirt from pet dogs paws.....This is two falls in a week, the worry is that number three might be more serious...and I know there WILL be a number three....

SHIRLEY...
...R hadn't long got out of bed, he came from the loo, he couldn't miss me sprawled out on the floor, nor fail to have heard me yell out as I went down....not so sure he would have come so quick to my aid if he was still tucked up in bed, or the time was a whole lot earlier...he doesn't like being disturbed.....But he did come and offered me his hand with the help of getting myself up, which at the time I had to decline because I just could not move.....well I had managed to turn myself over and sort of sit up, but the lower part of my body from the waist down I could not move....

LARRY HANNA...
...I am now looking at indoor mobility carrying trays, just for the purpose of carrying food...such as..." Lets Go Indoor Rollator....but I am still wary of manoeuvring wheels over the metal or wood floor room dividers...as you can see we have wood - carpeting and rugs throughout our home, so varying levels of thickness.....
