Ahh yes pillows...I have two sets on my bed, one set of goose feather and down, the other set are Dunlopillo ..I now much prefer the Dunlopillo ontop for comfort, more springy, whereas if one is looking for softness, the feather and down.....guess like anything it is a personal choice...

Good Saturday morning, Everyfriend.   There's apple fritters to accompany your coffee or tea. I wish everyone a good day!!

Surgery Bill

Margie received a bill from the hospital for her recent surgery, and was astonished to see a $900 fee for the anesthesiologist.

She called his office to demand an explanation. "Is this some kind of mistake?" Margie asked when she got the doctor on the phone.

"No, not at all," the doctor said calmly.

"Well," said Margie, "that's awfully costly for knocking someone out."

"Not at all," replied the doctor. "I knock you out for free. The 900 dollars is for bringing you back around."

Food For Thought

Eternal Life
(By Andrew Wommack)

One of the most familiar passages of Scripture is John 3:16. It seems like everybody knows that verse from a young age, yet I believe it has really been misunderstood and misapplied. John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life."

Traditionally, this scripture has been used to teach that Jesus came and died for our sins so that we wouldn't perish. As true as this is, this verse is saying that the real purpose of Jesus coming to this earth and dying for us was so that we could have everlasting life. It just so happened that our sins were a barrier that stood between us and this everlasting life.

It is true that Jesus did die for our sins, and it is true that if we believe on Jesus, we will not perish, but there is much more to the Gospel than that. The real message of the Gospel is that God wants to give you everlasting life. Now let me explain that.

The night before His crucifixion, Jesus was praying, and He said, "This is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ" (John 17:3)

This says that everlasting life is knowing the Father, the only true God, and knowing Jesus Christ, whom He has sent. That's what everlasting life is. Many people think that everlasting life is living forever. Well, every person lives forever. It's a misconception to think that when a person dies they cease to exist. The spirit and the soul go back to God. The body decays in the grave. The truth is, every person who has ever lived on the face of the earth will continue to live in spirit form. So, to say that eternal life is living forever is not the whole truth - everybody lives forever. This verse makes it very clear that eternal life with God is not automatically given to everyone.

Some people would say, "Eternal life is living forever in heaven versus living forever in hell." But eternal life is just what Jesus said in John 17:3 - to know God and Jesus Christ. It's more than an intellectual knowledge. This word "know" is used throughout Scripture to describe the most intimate, personal relationship that you can have.

The real purpose of salvation is not living forever in heaven, as great as that will be. The real purpose of salvation is to have intimacy - a personal relationship with the Lord God. There are multitudes of people who have cried out to God for the forgiveness of their sins but have never had intimacy with God as a goal.

By not explaining the real purpose of salvation, we are doing a disservice to the Gospel. When we present salvation as something that deals with just spiritual things that will only benefit us in the future, in eternity, we are not helping people. There are some people who are living in such a literal hell right now on earth. Many are depressed, living in poverty, dealing with strife, rejection, hurt, and failed marriages. People are just trying to survive day to day. They are just trying to keep their heads above water. By making salvation something that deals only with the future, many people put off that decision because they are too busy just trying to survive today.

The truth is that Jesus not only came to affect our eternal destinies so that we can live forever in heaven in blessing instead of the punishment and curse of hell, but Jesus also came to deliver us from this present evil world (Gal. 1:4). Jesus came to give you intimacy and a personal relationship with God the Father today.

Jesus came to bring you back into close, personal relationship with Him. Jesus loves you. Jesus wants to know you personally. Jesus wants to give you a quality of life that is greater than anything you could obtain through any other source.

Jesus put it this way in John 10:10: "The thief [speaking of Satan] cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly" (brackets mine). God wants to give you eternal life. God wants to give you abundant life, and I believe that you need that today - that you want that. Christ died not only to forgive your sins, but to bring you close to him. If you don't know the Lord, you need to know Him for that purpose. If you've already been born again, you need to go beyond just getting your sins forgiven and enter into everlasting life with the Father.

FACTS ABOUT ETERNAL LIFE
A. The purpose of the Gospel is eternal life (John 3:16).
B. Eternal life is knowing God (John 17:3).
C. Knowing God is an intimate relationship (1 Cor. 6:16-17).
D. Eternal life is available now (1 John 5:12).
E. God wants a personal relationship with you (Rev. 3:20).

Thought of the Day

"I am convinced if the Church went back to the main task of proclaiming the Gospel it would see people being converted to Christ, and it would have a far greater impact on the social, moral, and psychological needs of people than anything else it could possibly do. Some of the greatest social movements of history in this country have come about as a result of people being converted to Christ."

Gloria

Good morning everyone, ccccccoooollllldd one. 3° and wind chill feels like -20°  below zero.  The sun is shining and from inside it looks beautiful. Somehow I do not think I will be going outside for a walk.

LARRY  I can sympathize with Pat and the pain getting out of bed.  I have no room for a recliner in here so for me it is either the bed or the couch. The bed is more comfy but the last few days it is easier getting up in the mornings.

JEANNE LEE  my sympathy for you and family about the passing of your DIL. Then I know about your making ride arrangements gets to be a big job at times. Checking my appointments yesterday I found one for this coming Tuesday and I forgot to set up a ride so will have to call and reschedule that one. Then have another appointment on Friday.

HAL  just how cold was it there? I know I do not intend to go out the doors today. I turned my thermostat up this morning and it feel better in here now. I have been waiting for more normal winter weather, now all we need is snow.

JUNE  there are some days when I feel like staying in my nightgown and robe all day but dress because I never know when someone will knock at my door.

GLORIA de  looks like you had a feast yesterday.

PATRICIA  thanks for that review of My Pillow. I would not be happy with any lumps in a pillow.

JOAN  like you I want comfort in a pillow, one reason I like the solid foam pillows.

JOAN  an apple fritter will be so good this morning. I hope this morning finds you a little better than yesterday. Surgery bill is too true. Eternal Life is a different way of looking at things. Like the Billy Graham quote. Thank you for all today's goodies.

LLOYD  you will be very happy when Nancy gets home.

Gloria, you have us beat as far as low temp is concerned.  I got up at 3:30 for the usual reason and on a whim decided to see the temperature - it was 11 degrees.  When I got up for good, the temp was 18 degrees and when I got out of the shower it was 20 degrees.  It's 21 now.  All I can say is BRRR.  The sun is shining at 9:15 and we may get up to the 30s today.

I'm not awake yet, so the above is all I can offer now.

Hawaii consumes more Spam than any state in our union â€" in total, 7 million cans a year. According to the SPAM website, the island's love affair with Spam began in World War II, when GIs were served the salty luncheon meat because it didn't require refrigeration and had a long shelf life.

Jeanne, I certainly extend my condolences to you and your family on losing your daughter-in-law.  You have certainly been busy and hope the juggling worked well.  Glad you found a good place to get your hearing aids and can look forward to better hearing.

Hal, like you I really like Mexican food and we eat it often.  How authentic it is may be questionable but I still like it. My wife makes great enchiladas and we have them fairly often, including Wednesday night when our granddaughter helped prepare them.

Sandy, glad you hadn't lost your purse.  I wonder why the bus didn't stop for you as obviously many people look at their cell phones while waiting for its arrival.  Don't be hard on yourself when you screw something up.  We all do it on occasion.

deAngel, you two playing cribbage sounds pretty good as it was something you both enjoyed doing together.  My wife never cared for cribbage.  For several years I played it during the lunch period at work although sometimes we played bridge.  I expect the group of men having lunch is very similar to the groups I do and have participated in over the last several years.  While I have participated in coffee groups of men for more than 20 years, the luncheon groups were in the last 8 years or so and one of them met weekly. Since I moved I only go to coffee with the men once a week and have no men's luncheon group.  It sounds like you had a great meal.

Joan and June, I think my get up and go must have gone the same place as yours for the last couple of days as I just wanted to lay down and rest and go to bed early at night.  June, are you still paying for your meals when you don't eat in the dining room?  Joan, it wasn't a waste of money if the new pillows are giving you comfort.

JaneS, I think you are facing left if your left arm is resting on the bed.

Good Morning Everyone.

Kinda in a rush.  Have a funeral to attend this morning, one of our bible groups wives died.

Everyone have a great day.

Good Morning, Dear Hearts and Gentle People……isn't that the title of a song ?? In any case, that is what you are to me..so there ! It is Saturday, and our gardener is out blowing pine needles off the side walks…noisey machine !!

Gloria, someone gently knocks on my door at 6 a.m., delivering my first pill of the day. It is a thyroid pill and has to be taken on an empty stomach, and nothing else ingested for a half hour at least. So, here I am buried in my blankets with hair all askew and still not awake. A half hour later comes six more pills, two of which have to be taken with food, or they make me sick. Long about 10:30 are two vitamins, them I'm free of meds till 3 p.m. when two more of those icky salt tablets and a vitamin are delivered. Two more pills at 8 p.m., or thereabouts, and a sleeping pill at 9 p.m. If I am out to a program or in the shower they leave the pills on my table and trust me to use them. Oh, and I get my blood pressure taken twice a day. Of course I pay for this service, but it gives someone a job and things are done properly.

Mary Ann, Our temp today was in the low 50's at early morning, and will be going up to 66 for a high. It runs about the same every day at this time of year, unless we are blessed with some rain, then it is cooler.

Larry, I used a lot of Spam during ww2 and I still buy it occasionally. It is good made with scalloped potatoes. Yes, my meals are part of my rent. It is my choice to eat at home at times. And if I want a meal delivered to my apt. the charge is 11 dollars. We get a lot of gripes about that as our meals are already paid for, but they have to have someone come with a cart and tray to deliver and pick up. I belong to the dining room assoc. and those in charge are going to press for a lesser charge on delivery.

I'm praying for our Bis, she hasn't done her "chatting" with us yet.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Good morning from an ever changing Interior. Farrah has been fed, and I am sitting on the couch and drinking my coffee. We were minus 32 yesterday and today we are minus 8. In April we will be looking at green haze on the trees amid melting snow and so it goes in the arctic.

June, with my dead white skin, blue bags under each eye and hair either totally flattened on one side or sticking out and up on the other, I would probably frighten any early visitors!  :P

Janie, I hope you got my email re the early recipes? If you are lying on your side, you are either facing right or left. Think of it as Larry said or if you are facing the door or the opposite direction. No matter where I go to sleep, I am invariably lying on my left side upon awakening.

I used to love playing gin rummy or poker for chips, but no one here plays. I never got interested in cribbage although so many I know played cribbage daily. Here it is cribbage, hearts, or bunco. Bingo is every Tuesday at 5:30 according to the monthly activities calendar they send out.

We recently got notice of some new rules and procedures the company has made. The wheels grind very slowly in "bureaucratville." Last summer they sent out a questionnaire asking what we would like to see changed. Mid-February we got the first draft and the first of April, we will receive the final version. The reason I bring this up is that they finally outlawed smoking on the grounds. Initially, you could smoke in your apartment or outside in the picnic tables in the corner. There were smoking and nonsmoking picnic tables!

I am very glad to see the property go completely non-smoking although several people are upset. In the summer folks would go out on their balconies and smoke, and it would seep into your apartment. Or you would smell it in the hallways or the elevators. There has been enough written about the dangers of second-hand smoke, and we have many on oxygen or with breathing difficulties.

There were some other changes such as reminding folks that it is our responsibility to escort our visitors in or out and not to just rely on security to do so. There are more penalties for residents not doing that and also for not calling maintenance, but grabbing one in the hall and expecting immediate service.

There is also a new ruling that you cannot only give a visitor your keys if you are to be away and expect them to stay in your apartment. You have to notify the office and give your caretaker's name, and they will issue a temporary key to them and they may not live in your apartment but can stop in to care for plants or pets. You also have to notify the office if you are gone for longer than 48 hours which all makes sense. Any people visiting you are limited to two weeks and you must notify the office of the names and length of stay. These regulations have been tightened as many residents just ignored the rules.

Now I know that some of you get Baba Mail and have seen this. But for the eternally curious, trivia folks like me, this was instantly bookmarked! I loved the idea of totally free guitar lessons and the cooking by engineers!  And I already subscribe to the Ted Talks but this has so much more and all free and not skany offerings.

Denver

Good morning from a dreary, rainy, Austin, Texas.  Oh and chilly, too.  Not that cold but the humidity in the air sure makes it feel cooler!  I am wrapped up when sitting here more than I am in Colorado.

We are enjoying this granddog!  He is high maintenance though....still being a puppy, one has to be involved with him most of the time.  He is completely house trained, a lets you know when he needs to go out, so that part is great....well, not on a rainy day as he brings in a lot of debris with his fluffy fur! We are getting quite the enjoyment out of him, but both agree that a cat is so much easier to deal with.  Well, not if you are Our Shirley who spoils her cats something terrible!  Now those are high maintenance cats that she has!

Thank you for our goodies today, JOAN.  I hope you can say again that you are feeling a bit better today!

JEANNE LEE, I am sad to read of your daughter-in-laws passing.  My condolences to the entire family.  Good to read that you got your hearing aids....hope they work out great for you.

ANGELFACE, all of the new rules you have mentioned seem very reasonable to me.  I know change is hard for many.

GLORIA de,  I love to play cards, etc., but anymore it just is not all that popular with friends or the like.  We do play games with the grands and it is always enjoyable.  Most recently we have been playing Mexican Train or Left Right Center.

I was in a Bed Bath and Beyond yesterday and saw the MY PILLOW.  In feeling it, all I could say is it felt very lumpy and cheap....a pillow I would never consider buying.  Glee one never knows unless they try it!  I guess.

SANDY, I felt sad for you with your frustrations regarding not knowing where your purse was.  I often have little episodes like that and it makes me extremely frustrated, and concerned about myself!  My hubby and I have been attached at the hip for so many years since his retirement that I find it very stressful to be out and about on my own.  I am making a conscious effort to make myself do more on my own, even though I do not like it.

I wish you all a good rest of your Saturday.

PATRICIA, I did not get any recipes from you.  I even went back and checked my junk mail folder but since I have you in my contacts, it shouldn't go to junk.

I just got back from the Amish store.  My daughter called to say she was going and did I want to go or could she get something for me.  GLORIA you'll like this one...I got two Honey Crisp apples for $1.00.  They are currently selling at WM and other grocery stores for $3.57 a pound.  My two apples weighed just over a pound.

Everything is put away and I had my lunch, the doggies have been out so I think I'll take a short nap.  My eyelids are droopy and my body is saggy...oh wait, that's not due to lack of sleep.  That's old age setting in! :2funny: :smitten:

Jane, I attempted a resend after rechecking your profile address.

Carol

Good day all.  I am catching up after fixing dinner for 3 neighbors last night.  It is an easy meal to eat and lots of effort to make.  A few times a year, Don asks me to make a Swiss meal that calls for a special toaster for the cheese.  We have to really watch the cheese as it begins to melt to just the right look - then scrape that little bit onto veggies and I also made meatballs, plus a baguette.  Fun for conversation - I was exhausted - this is getting to be much more of an ordeal for me anymore.

So, I am thinking of what Sandy wrote about and just want to say - we are all in the same boat and frame of mind that life is not calm anymore.

The world we live in today is so much busier - I long for the days of turning a t.v. just on or off.  Everything is so complicated and MUST be accomplished a rigid order or else.  We "hate" to get on the darn freeway - why is everyone going OVER the speed LIMIT?  The list goes on and on - why in heck do I have to fill out 3 pages every single time I see my doctor?

I keep losing my phone and nearly panic with counting out what I need to do - if it is over 3 things, I seem to lose something.

If I remember and am not pushed - I try to remember the five things to get out the door.

Gloria:  Glad you were not "blown away".

Lindancer:  Save that cake for me.

Jeanne Lee:  My condolences on the loss of your DIL.

June:  Would love to have someone "deep clean" - it is getting hard to stand up after working on the floor or putting stuff away.  The only way I can do it is to do something every day.

Jenny:  Dog-sitting - you two are game to go all the time.  Good for you.

June Drabek

Patricia, I purposely checked this morning and found I woke up on my left side. Will be interesting to see what happens tomorrow. I think I went to sleep on my left side too, but I do a lot of turning before I can sleep. I recently went on a different walk in our property, and there is a little enclosed building in the parking lot reserved for smokers. It is all glass, and has two enclosed pots where the butts go. I am SO glad I am 12 years (or more) smoke free. ( I still miss it at times though, so I know I am still an addicted, recovery person). When we are hospitalized. there is a lead knobby type of thing placed over our doorknob where the key goes. so only someone in charge can open the door.

Janie, you are not in the category of "old age" yet. The first step in is 89 years, and after that all of us are "there". That is what I experienced anyway.

Carol dear…don't give up !!!!!!! Be thankful you can still get up from the floor, and you can still cook all that good food. I agree completely that life has become much too complicated in many, many areas, and I am slowly retiring from some areas of life that I used to feel were essential. I no longer plan to purposely get down on the floor to prove to myself I can still get up……why ????? At my age I am told if I find myself on the floor to just STAY there till some one arrives to assist me. So I will.

Time to drag my bones down to the dining room for lunch, then home to act my age.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Shirley

Add my name to the "loosin' & confusing" roster!  I spend half my life looking for things & other half wondering "what I started to do".......

My mother used to always remind us to "sleep on your right side" because that's what her Papa did...  her mother died when she was 7.  Used to be believed the heart was on the left side & it is slightly to the left so guess it doesn't get quite a crunched if you sleep on the right side.  I start on the right & sometimes find myself flat on my back.... don't sleep on a pillow.

JeanneLee, so sorry about your DIL, sincere sympathy to you & her family.  God bless all of you & give you strength & peace for the days ahead.

Joan, do hope you are getting a nap, but concerned about you......

The wind is whistling down the fan/vent over the stove, had to get out of the kitchen.  Trees are blooming or leafing out & so much pollen in the air you can taste it.  Can't change the weather so might as well enjoy the sunshine today, after a nap.

Joan has been missing all day since posting our Breakfast goodies... I do hope she is alright...just not like Joan to go absent for so long without having good reason...If she is taking a nap, her nap seems a tad too long, enough to cause some concern....hope she will show herself soon, and that I am not over-reacting...

Shirley, I see you are showing concern too...

Edited...done a check and Joan did look in 4 hours ago..

Shirley, I recently read something to the effect of sleeping on your right side for your heart and other organs. However, no matter which position I'm in before sleeping, I always wake in the same left side position.

June, I smoked three packs of Kools a day from age 14 to age 40 and know that not all of the damage ever goes away! Maybe that is why I get so upset at the smoking here on balconies. The smell drifts right into other apartments!

Well, I had one of those days and its not even noon yet! 1st, I was standing in line for a disabled person to get their food box, holding my mug of coffee when suddenly I started to go over backward. Everyone else moved their carts and walkers back, and someone kindly took my coffee cup away. I proceeded to fall back in what felt like slow motion until I conked my head on the carpet. It took two folks to lift me back upright and while I appreciated the help, why didn't someone break my fall or attempt to?

2nd, I opened my door, put in my keys, coffee, and mail and for some reason set out to bring my neighbor his food box while leaving my keys on top if my mail in my locked apartment. It took 20 minutes after using my neighbors phone, to get a maintenance man and of course even though he knows me, he has to see my ID, check that he did on his paper, we both sign and I get my copy with a rote announcement that I can pay my $25.00 fee anytime up until the first of the month, money order only.

I wonder what the rest of the day will bring?

JaneS

Well, Patricia, here's a tiny smidgen of good news.  I received your email with the recipe files and I think I used to make that coffee cake.  I love what those people did for their dog.
