Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

Amy--Glad your waltz with the snow blower is done for today.  I'm heading for the "hidey hole" now to get a tea biscuit with lemon butter.  Thank you.

CallieOK

Wait, Joan - I'll go with you for a tea biscuit and lemon butter.   Is that like lemon curd?  Yum.

Brrrrrr cold in central Oklahoma today - with 2-4 inches of snow predicted to fall between 10:00 p.m. and noon tomorrow.
"They" are also saying the temperatures could be near 70º by this time next week.   Crazy!!!!!!

Hope Everyfriend Everywhere is having an enjoyable day.

Sandy

Good Afternoon Everyone...
It is cold here in Maine,  although the sun is still shinning.

Our problem now is WIND....  The "Wind Chill"
changes everything as to how the air feels  when
we go out.

So my next time out I will wear  my Eddie Bouer Windbreaker over my sweater and down vest.     That should keep me toasty  when I venture out.

And so it goes in the Winter here in the North East.   :'(

Callie--GREAT!!  I'd love to have you join me.  The weather sure is fickle.

Sandy--Wind sure can change how the temp feels.  Good you dress in layers.

Joan, maybe you should save me some because it will take the broom some extra time to warm up before I can be   :witch:.

Back to the "sorting and stacking"......... :whip:

Callie--Sure, I will save you some.

Mother Nature sure has it in for us here in the Interior! Not only is it getting colder, but that wind is back with 40-50 mph gusts and whiteouts through tomorrow. We're having drifting snow and people scurrying about, trying to get everything done and back home. Lots of minor fender benders and the police are out ticketing those who are still trying out for an Indy type race.

After yesterday's errands, I won't leave again until it warms up again!

Lindancer

Good evening again, I just wrote a long post, hit spell check, and everything was gone. We had blue sky for the whole day, but a gain windy.
Gloria, I guess we are going to get the same snow storm. They say Eastern LI, get the worst in NY. I was suppose to go to a RedHat get to gether, in the mall, we would set to gether, but go get their own food, Feb, going to do the same thing, as you never know what the weather will be.
I got dressed to go, but by 9, I started not feeling well, so had to stay home.

Shirley, I did three paintings last year to prove to my self I still could handle a brush at 92. I did one oil (turned out the best) and two acrylic

June, the only reason I came in here was to check on you. I am so happy you are home where you belong. There is nothing like your own bed, and to be able to sleep, without a lab tech jabbing you with needle at 4am.

Larry glad to see you and Pat got out to eat.  I enjoy going out to breakfast sometimes. Also happy to see you enjoying the new addition  to your family.

Well the blessing here is we do not have but a genital breeze out of the north west 5 -7 mph but it is the high today 12º .  had a hard time getting the tractor to start and run but did and the cows fed. sure glad we have a warm house.
now days , not like the old days that burnt burnt wood to heat the house. the tea kettle would water freeze in it setting on the stove before morning to crank the fire up. we have four pipelines go across our farm ,and we are hooked up to one of them. not free gas like they told granddad but never got documented when they came across it in the 30y's. oh well it is all brick and tight built. good furnace set on 72º and Nancy sets with a blanket on her in her easy chair. I came in from feeding and asked her how she would like to go back to them good old days ,i think she almost shook her head off.(HA HA HA)

Beverly

I intended to come in and say hello after dinner but fell asleep in the recliner.

Joan - Furnace is on tonight!  We're already down to 58.

June - So glad to hear you are back home. Last night where our group played cards, my friend's daughter is staying with her and has a huge black labra-doodle. Such a nice dog.

I didn't get home from Triple Play till 10:45 last night.

Jane S. - I have been wondering if you ever got to drink a cup of coffee!  :)

Shirley - The couple who are leaving have a home in England and have spent winters here. They feel it's getting to be too much to keep up both places. They're only allowed to stay six months here in the U.S. The single lady is also from England but has been living in France most summers with her daughter.  Some weeks are much busier than others for me. I love playing bocce and soon I'll be playing bocce twice a week. Chape and I will be replacing the English couple as partners with a couple of mutual friends. We play in teams of four.

Patricia - Hope your weather improves soon.

Larry - The restaurant where we had breakfast/brunch after golf yesterday has the best grits! Wish I could make them the way they do. They also serve small bowls of shredded cheese around the table.

Sorry for not responding to everyone but please know that I read and enjoy each and every post.

BEVERLY, once everything was cleaned up and I'd run 2 pots of vinegar water and 2 plain waters, through the pot, I tried a one cup and it worked fine.  My coffee pot is one of those that can make a pot or a single cup.  I haven't tried to make a pot yet but I'm sure going to stay right there and watch it when I do take a chance.

We got a dusting of snow tonight but it's supposed to start again around midnight and last until about 4 a.m.  I hope it's all cleared up by the time I have to go to work at 9 tomorrow.

I'm off to bed now.  Good night Everyfriend and may God bless us, every one!

I have been sleeping much of the day again, and glad I am to be able to snooze and enjoy. I am having the Clinic handle delivery of my medications through the end of the week. I don't trust myself enough yet, but they are not doing a very good job of it either..oh well.. life is not meant to be perfect, we will all spoil like over-ripe fruit. It is the little complaints that strengthen our spines.

I have had two meals downstairs today, and plan to make it a habit. I am entitled to three meals so might as well quite piddling around in my little kitchenette.

We had light rain last night and early this morning,so it has been a fresh cool day. Great sleeping weather. Now I am off to prepare for beddy bye, and book till sleep takes over. I love you all. June
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Good Friday morning, Everyfriend.   There's bear claws to accompany your coffee or tea. Make it a good day!!

Warning Labels

In 1997, Michigan Lawsuit Abuse Watch (M-LAW) began a contest to expose how frivolous lawsuits, and a concern about potential frivolous lawsuits, have led to a new cultural phenomenon: the wacky warning label.

You have probably heard about the lawsuit over a spilled cup of coffee. However, there are many other silly lawsuits involving products that have received far less attention. For example, did you know a man received $50,000 when he sued a small company that makes basketball nets because he claimed the company was responsible when he caught his teeth in a net while dunking a ball? People who make products hear about these outrageous lawsuits, and they often decide to slap common sense warnings on their product... "just in case."

Over the years, M-LAW has received hundreds of warning labels from people around the world. M-LAW verifies the authenticity of each label and selects the "Top 5" for each year.

Following is a list of some of the best labels from the first five contests:

A warning on an electric router made for carpenters cautions: "This product not intended for use as a dental drill."

A warning label found on a baby stroller cautions the user to "Remove child before folding."

A prescription of sleeping pills says, "Warning: May cause drowsiness."

A sticker on a toilet at a public facility in Ann Arbor, Michigan actually warns, "Recycled flush water unsafe for drinking."

A massage chair warns, "DO NOT use massage chair without clothing... and, Never force any body part into the backrest area while the rollers are moving."

A snowblower warns, "Do not use snowthrower on roof."

A dishwasher carries this warning: "Do not allow children to play in the dishwasher."

Food For Thought

On Your Side
(By Ted Torkelson)

Two Scottish schoolboys out for a hike one morning came to a cliff overlooking the sea. As they stood admiring the scenery and listening to the breakers below, they heard in the distance the blast of a hunter's horn, the baying of hounds, and the beat of horses' hooves. A hunting party on the trail of game, they thought. And they were right. Soon a deer rushed out of the underbrush panting with fear, obviously the object of the chase.

The boys watched the terrified animal pause at the edge of the cliff as if debating what to do, whether to jump for its life into the sea below or run to the left or the right. How the boys wished they could help it!

Suddenly, the deer turned sharply to one side and sped away along the edge of the cliff, quickly disappearing from sight. The boys knew that the hunters would soon arrive in hot pursuit. "What shall we say if they ask us which way the deer went?" the younger boy said.

"Oh, we'll just say we don't know," replied the older one. "But that would be lying," the younger objected. "We don't want to do that."

Then, just as the hunters arrived on the scene, an idea struck the older boy that solved the dilemma. When the hunters asked if the boys had seen the deer and which way it had gone, he said, "It's not fair to ask us. We're on his side."

A simple story, but how profoundly suggestive of Christ's care for His people here on earth! And how reassuring. He's on our side. The Bible says so, in just those words. Read Psalm 118:6, NKJV: "The Lord is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me?"

Thought of the Day

"There are two hundred and fifty-six names given in the Bible for the Lord Jesus Christ, and I suppose this was because He was infinitely beyond all that any one name could express."

Gloria

Good morning everyone. Boy did this pain doctor poke and prod my back. He found the area that hurt the most by pressing on it and I let out a yelp. I really hurt. Well he put 2 shots in that are, he said to try and relax the muscles because they were so tight. I go back the end of the month for some shots by my spine. I told him what the last orthopedic doctor said about the rib bone hitting the hip bone, He laughed and said that was impossible. I can see why my SIL likes him, and she had been to many back doctors and even to a back clinic in a hospital in Providence and she said he is the first one to make her back feel better. He checked my feet and legs and my shoulders  Felt the shoulder that was replaced. Was surprised to see the limited motion I have in the left shoulder. Just laid on the couch when I got home. Talked on Skype for a short time and back on the couch watching TV and dozing. When I got up this morning I was surprised I was standing a little straighter. Yippee, maybe there is hope for me yet.

CAROL  I made cranberry/sliced almond biscotti once. Very tasty but too much work. It was before Christmas and had too many other cookies and candy to make for gifts. I was still working then.

JOAN  you and I must have failed the same quilting lessons.

JANE  I did not have my coffee yesterday. I opened a new can of Maxwell House and it smelled funny. I put the lid back on and into the trash it went. I have used that brand for years and never had a problem. I ended with a cup of hot cocoa.

HAL  the weather guesser said we would have snow before midnight but when I got up at 4 it still had not started. Wish I had a fireplace to enjoy.

JOAN  I will enjoy a bear claw this morning, Might take a second one for an afternoon treat. Yummy. Some of those warning labels are really funny. Love On Your Side, another keeper. Glad I have a lot of room on the external drive. Thank you for all today's goodies.

Good Morning Everyfriend!

Hooray, GLORIA!  I hope this process works for you!

We had a dusting of snow before I went to bed and we were supposed to have several hours of snow during the night.  There is still just a dusting out there.  I'm not complaining!

I'll be off to Wally World this morning.  It's still very busy but not like before Christmas.  Maybe it's me!  I'm not trying to get as much done at home and then going to work already tired.  I'm mostly living off the fruits of my labors last summer.  I'm eating my home canned foods....soooo gooood!

I hope Everyfriend has a lovely day full of whatever pleases your fancy!

Good morning, Gloria.  I sure hope the pain relief you feel is an omen of even more relief to come.  Strange that newly opened can of coffee smelled strange.

Janie--Good morning.  I'm glad that the predicted snow didn't materialize.  I wish you smiles today at WM.

Good morning, Lloyd.  It sure is cold there.  Keep yourselves warm.

Amy--Good morning.    Sorry your husband wasn't feeling well.  At least you don't have a date this morning with any snow removal equipment.

Gloria, I have two fireplaces.....you can have both of them.  I love watching a fire burn but I hated cleaning up after it and the smell of cold ashes is very unpleasant to me.  We had gas (propane) logs installed in the den fireplace several years ago, mostly to have as an alternate heat source if the power should go out.  David lit the pilot light yesterday so it is ready to use if the coming snow storm should knock out the power.  The weather people are saying 3-6 inches starting with sleet/frozen precipitation and changing to snow to last until Sat. evening. That doesn't sound like a lot to you all up North but Southerners don't handle snow very efficiently. We have enough food and plenty of sand to make a path to the mail box and I have 2 or 3 new books on my Nook so I think we are all set.

Jane, you reminded me that I should clean my coffee maker, too.  I haven't done that for awhile so should do it today.

Take care, everyone.

Lloyd--I hope Nancy soon feels better.

Good morning, Phyllis.  We had a fireplace in Arkansas, and I feel the same as you about the mess and the smell of cold ashes.  It's good you have those gas logs in case you lose power.  Glad you are all set with provisions should that predicted storm arrive.

Good Morning Everyone!

Well it isn't as cold as some of you, but it was 30 degrees when I got up and not suppose to go much higher today.  But I did manage to get some precautions taken late yesterday, it got almost really warm just before the front came through, not unusual.

Gloria, got my fingers crossed for you.  I do know, it seems, some doctors really seemed to have a talent for finding the root cause of problems while others cant find their way home.

I have been on this computer most of the morning checking our mail order drugs and it seems they change the format every time I get on there and I cant find anything.  So on to the phone and talk to an "agent" and see if I can get some answers to some changes I need to make.  Don't you hate it when doctors change strength of drugs?

Everyone have a great day.

larryhanna

Hi everyone on an overcast morning.  We are to get rain later today and it is will in the 40's.  If we get any snow it should be tomorrow but only for a couple of hours.

I have nothing scheduled for today that would require me leaving the house.  Pat is going to put together a vegetable soup for our dinner tonight so I got everything out of the freezer that she would need plus the crock pot. Yesterday went as I had expected it to and we have a quick supper of salad with tuna on it.

Joan, we have an electric fireplace that puts out no heat as it is just cosmetic.  We don't use it.  We only turn on the switch when we want to show it to a visitor.

Gloria, sure hope the shot will bring you some relief.

I have read all of the postings but am going to keep this relatively brief today.  We just had an internet outage and it has messed up my laser printer.  So I have to figure out how to get it back online, which doesn't make me happy.  At least the color printer is working.

JoanFL

halkel--It's chilly here, but the noon news is saying it is going to be MUCH colder tomorrow and Sunday.  I do dislike when doctors change the strength of medicines.  I have to go fill a new one and the ones I have left from the previous prescription are useless.

Larry--Vegetable soup sounds good.  Tomorrow I am going to make a big pot of chicken noodle soup.  A question--why do people have electric fireplaces if they don't put out any heat?

I done that once, it was during the time we had our house on the market just before December 2015..... where we were led to believe we would get an offer as this couple were supposedly very interested as we were basically the last house standing in our village, and they wanted to be in our village....The family turned up, we stayed in to meet them, I had previously turned on the fire but without heat, it was for show, just for the cosy homely effect, well this whole family seemed to huddle in front of our electric coal effect fire...of course I felt uncomfortable as no heat was coming from it but.....now in hindsight, this was the couple who made an insulting and paltry offer which we turned down, thankfully we did as it was a month later we got a respectable offer just when we thought it had come to an end for the year and the housing market wouldn't be starting again till Spring of next year ( last year....)

JoanFL

Vanilla-Jackie--The last laugh is on those who made the insulting offer.  Good for you that you waited and got a much better price.
