Good Sunday morning, Everyfriend.  There's Belgian Waffles to go with your coffee or tea.  I wish ALL a blessed day.

Thanks to Phyllis for her lovely graphic creation which we are using this week.

Fair Warning

My creative mother enjoys doing crafts, such as making potpourri boxes decorated with ribbon and lace. Sometimes she gets so involved that she disappears into her upstairs workroom for hours, forgetting about more mundane things, like making dinner.

One evening, I arrived home to find the kitchen empty again. But this time, I found a note that said, "Warning! Small craft advisory. Buy yourself a pizza!"

Food For Thought

Merciful, Noble, Obedient
By Arie Leder
Scripture Reading: Ruth 1:16-17; 3:1-13

May you be richly rewarded by the Lord, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge.
Ruth 2:12
Why should Ruth obey Naomi and make herself available to Boaz? Why not make her own choices? The answer is straightforward. When she refused to go back home, Ruth “clung” to Naomi (Ruth 1:14). The same verb in Hebrew is used elsewhere to describe a husband and wife being united together (see Genesis 2:25).
As in marriage, Ruth left her home willingly to join herself to another. In this case, she willingly shared Naomi’s family situation, her God, her sorrow, her emptiness. Going to the threshing floor that night was a gesture requesting marriageâ€"for the purpose of filling a part of Naomi’s emptiness: her lack of a child and heir. When Ruth said to Boaz, “Spread . . . your garment over me,” it meant, “Take me under your wing to be your wife, by the terms of God’s covenant for our related families.”
In a way, this story is like Jesus’ parable of the good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37). Both stories teach God’s people what it means to love their neighbor. When Jesus asked which ¬traveler showed the love of God to the man who needed help, the response had to be “The one who had mercy on him.”
Ruth went to the threshing floor because she was a merciful, noble person who wanted to honor God. Let us also honor God by being merciful and noble to our neighbors.
Thank you, Lord Jesus, for not passing us by when we were in need of your love. Help us to respond with your love and care for our hurting neighbors. Amen.

Thought of the Day

“Instead of comparing our lot with that of those who are more fortunate than we are, we should compare it with the lot of the great majority of our fellow men.  It then appears that we are among the privileged.”

~ Helen Keller

Good Morning Everyfriend and a special Good Morning to you, Joanie.

I'm going to try to go to church this morning.  My back feels much better this morning.  There is still a spot that hurts but it doesn't feel nearly as bad as it did.

I'll just mark my place for later since I need to get moving and make sure the car will start.  It's been sitting there idle since
Thursday when I picked up Kiran after school.

Make it a good day, Everyfriend!

Greetings from Israel! It is sunny but cool in Netanya, having survived two days of heavy rain and gale force winds. Bubble has recovered to the extent that we were able to venture out and do a major grocery shopping this morning which took almost 3 hours to complete. But it was great getting out together. I'm still adjusting to the time difference: it's 2pm here and 7am in eastern North America.

JoanFL

Good morning radioman.  Good to hear that Bubble is feeling enough better so you both can get out and go grocery shopping.

Hi everyone.  It is one of our colder mornings as it was 37 degrees but we are headed to the mid-50's today.  There is not a cloud in the sky.  I think Pat is going to go to Sunday School with me this morning.  This will be the first time in about 8 months.  She will have to see if she can tolerate the chairs we have in the classroom.  We will then attend Church and go out to eat and that will be our day.  She did pick up her new glasses yesterday while I got a few items at COSTCO.

Joy, we have quickly become great fans of the online ordering of groceries from Walmart and then all I have to do is go and pick them up and sign for them.  My wife can put together the order sitting in her easy chair.  I have a feeling that more and more grocery stores will begin to offer this service.  Here you need purchase only $30 worth to use the service without additional charge.  You can also get items from the pharmacy and I don't know what else in the orders.

Phyllis, I remember my grandfather and father having lumbago and you never hear of that anymore.

Jackie, I have not heard of that type of burial grounds either.  When Pat and I first got married I bought a cemetery plot out in the country in the area of where I grew up.  I paid $10 for it.  I really would like to have my ashes scattered in that cemetery but that is not going to happen since we live a long way from there and so we will probably do what I wrote about yesterday.

JaneS, you are making all of us wish we lived close to a Amish store.  Those are wonderful prices.  Hope you back is feeling better today.

Don, I watched the video you posted and it sure gave me a laugh for today.

Callie, isn't Monarch of the Glen a great series with wonderful kooky characters, especially the father and his friend.

Hal, I hadn't heard about the mumps situation.

JoanFL

Good morning, Larry.  It's chilly, dark and gloomy here, and it's lightly sprinkling.  That's great that Pat feels up to attending Sunday School.  I hope the chairs/seats are comfy.

LARRY HANNA...
...now that is sad that you cant, or wont be, following your original plans for when you and Pat's time come to its endings.....especially that it has also been paid for...sadly these things cost a whole lot more nowadays than the monies you paid back then...but the country plot does sound ideal..

Now I need to go back on what you wrote yesterday...

JOAN...
... guess similar weather here but without your heat, rain, dark, dull and gloomy...

DON...
..that is good news that Bubble is recovered enough to get out of her home again...

Gloria

Good morning everyone looks like we might have a sunny morning at least.

LARRY  my oldest grandson sold his motorcycle. 3 years ago he slid in sand and fell with the bike on one of his legs. He had surgery on it and was out of work for almost a year. He has a great boss and is a good worker so he had no problems. It still gives him problems at times. Will check those links. I get Babamail, too. Some good things in there and some days I spend hours checking out what is included.

JOY  the wind finally calmed down here yesterday. For a change it did not keep me awake last night. Like you I am lost without my computer. I ordered groceries last night online and will be delivered Monday. I picked the delivery time for when my CNA will be here.

PHYLLIS   just heard on local news that by the end of the week nights might get down into the teens. That sounds more normal for here. Tuesday and Wednesday a chance of snow flurries. Have appointments both of those days. One with pain doctor and more shots in my back. Oh if only when  in high school we knew what an aching back was I wonder if that would have been a popular saying. I hate ticks, too. When my son told me about that one I thought we really need some freezing cold weather for a few weeks.

JOAN  I sure hope Tuesday's shots will work as good.

PATRICIA  like you when air pressure changes I can feel it.

JANE  gee, maybe in heaven I can knit or crochet again? I sure miss being able to do either one.

GLORIA de  no he did not get bit by that tick. His FIL had Lyme disease from those tiny ticks. He was lucky to have a doctor treat him that had it and knew how to treat it.

JANE  wow you got some great buys at the Amish store. Those ham slices you got are a steal.

JEANNE LEE  here the white/milky clam chowder is Maine chowder. Red is Manhattan chowder and then there is the clear which is RI chowder. Best chowder used to be at the 2 amusement parks we had  in their shore dinner halls. At Rocky Point they had the best clam cakes. Small ones and cooked through. Some places make them big and the centers are never cooked. Only potatoes were in the chowder with plenty of clams.

MARY ANN  to me I never drove miles away for groceries. Not really saving anything. I was lucky to live with 2 close to each other. I would get groceries in one and the other meat and produce.

SHIRLEY  glad your family is keeping a check on you. Hope each day finds you feeling much better.

JUNE  my ex was just brought up to think he was better than anyone else. I thank God my 3 turned out as good as they have. They learned what he was like early in their lives and not by anything I said.

PHYLLIS  thanks for another graphic and love the quote.

JOAN  love Belgian waffles with strawberries and cream. Yummy. Good Chuckles. Thank you for all today's goodies.

DON  glad Bubble is feeling much better. Wow 3 hours grocery shopping. Did you buy the stores out?

A day of rest here....may head to the sewing room .

Gloria, my friends had a bike but when his knees started to give him trouble they made it into a trike.

Joan, thank you for breakfast.

I sure won't miss either one Joan. Right now the sun is shining, something it hasn't done much of for over a week, fat fluffy flakes of snow  are falling and look like cotton balls on the tree limbs.....so pretty out there now :)

Good Morning Everyone,  from the cool,  but bright and sunny rocky coast of Maine.    I believe that we have a couple more warmish days before the real February Weather begins...   And that can be  miserable ....   But soon after the short month of February,  we can start wishing for warmer spring days,   ("March winds and April showers"  and all that  stuff!)

But for today I am enjoying the bright warmth and sun shinning in my Windows to the world...

All is well here!

Good morning, being lazy, still am not dressed :o the sun was out when I got up, but it is now cloudy, but no wind.

Patricia and Joan, I like N.England clam chowder the best, but my mother made good NY clam chowder. When I was a kid, we always had a bushel of clams and oysters in the garage aso a bushel of potatoes. My mother always told me after I got married to keep potatoes in the house, in case of bad storms and we could not get out. I could always make Fire Island Starve to death. (potato soup) :)

Callie, I always keep chicken broth in the freezer, I always boil up what is left of a roast chicken with Veg. I guess that is left over in me, from growing up in the depression. The first time we had Thanksgiving  dinner with our new DIL she was throwing the turkey carcass out I ask to take it home, she was shocked.

Hal, here on Long Island they are worried about measles, as a baby was in two hospital this week, before they found out what it had.

Don, glad to read you and Bubble were able to go out, and she is feeling better.

Gloria, would you believe I have foot doctor on Tuesday and Hematologic on Wed. for a shot, and they are saying possible snow. AS I wrote I have had Lymes disease. You do not hear of Rocky Mt. fever, as much. When I worked in the Hosp. we would always have a few cases in the summer.

MaryAnn, when I was first married, the grocery (Bohacks) was on our corner. One side was the meat dept. and the other groceries . I would stand at the counter and the clerk would reach for the things I wanted, then the butcher would cut the meat to order. Generally  I would have spent $15. when I walked out. That was for the week. Of course I did have a breadman and milkman.  I almost forgot I also had and iceman.
I guess I had better end this long walk back in time.

Gloria D, the first grocery stores I remember were as you said.  My mother made a list and we (Dad, Mother and I) went to the grocery where they got the items for us.  I'm trying to think where my folks got the meat because the grocery did not sell meat.  I seem to remember a big barrel of pickles by the door.  Eventually either Kroger or A&P opened a larger market that did include meat.  We had two drug stores nearby.  Our first grocery store was owned by a man named Cooper.  Later John Joyce bought it and Norm worked for him for a few years while in high school.  Later when the big supermarkets came, the small groceries disappeared.

Dot and I did our usual, church, then OTB.  Today we both had hamburgers, in fact, we usually have burgers but last week we split a tuna melt.

Tom has gone to Holland to see a friend, so Kendrick and I are staying here.  I am sure a nap is on the agenda.

Mary Ann--I remember going with my mother to A & P and Nuway for groceries and to a meat market--but can't seem to recall the name.  You have a better memory than I do.

Good morning from the Interior where I am still trying to talk myself off the couch and onward to the many chores awaiting me!

When I was young in the fifties, we had many small neighborhood groceries. We went to Lindys for our groceries which they also fetched for us; Gordons for shoes, boots, and outdoor goods and clothing, Mode 'O Day for my mom's hats, handkerchiefs and gloves, and Hazel's for lunch.

We always got dressed for town. In fact, we had an entire wardrobe of dresses, hats, and gloves for church, shopping, and visiting. There was that, then school clothes and finally play clothes. And heaven help you if you wore the wrong clothes for the wrong activity back then because "we were ladies!"  ::)

That was certainly another time and place then and of course, once we hit our teens and the sixties, it completely and radically changed.

Sandy

I forgot to mention that I got up early today,    made the bed,  took shower, washed hair and got dressed for the day to wait for Kelly to come pick me up so that I could go get my new teeth today a 1:30....

The I sat down to wait and put the tv on to watch a morning show while waiting for Kelly.     At that time I realized that today was SUNDAY  and not Monday,  when I have to pick up my teeth.      .....

Oh my goodness  ....    I got all my Monday Morning chores done before I realized that it was Sunday Morning...

Angelface--I am going to my couch shortly to see if I can find a few zzz's.  Like you, we had school clothes, play clothes, church clothes and "go to town" clothes.  The church clothes and "go to town clothes" were most often one in the same.  And then we had school shoes, play shoes and church shoes.  We were lucky to have several pair since my dad owned a fine shoe store.

Sandy--Well at least you got a day ahead on your work/chore schedule.:)  Thanks for the link.

Mention of special clothes for special activities reminded me of going downtown.  We lived a mile from the bus stop so Dad would take us there.  Buses ran quite often in those days.  My mother didn't wear gloves when going downtown, but many women did.

Of course, we had our Sunday clothes for church and special things.  I wore a hat to church well into the '50s but when I realized I was one of four women wearing hats and the other three were older than I was, I quit wearing hats to church. I don't know when I got my first pair of slacks and it could have been after I started working.  I wore skirts to work most of the time except when I broke my leg but when the cast came off, I went back to skirts.  I wore heels and at the last I had a job that took me all over the building.  I thought nothing of it at the time,  and I guess I'd think nothing of it now, only a reverse thought.

Mary Ann

JoanFL

Sandy--:)

Mary Ann--Being Catholic,  females wore hats to church for a long, long time.  Heels were a requirement my first job at Kodak office.  Slacks--no women wore slacks back then.

Phyllis, A perfect graphic for our group, in my estimation. This is exactly what I find here in our S.S.

Larry, I well remember the term Lumbago, another was Rheumatiz. Cancer was a term that was said in a whisper, as if it were "catching"

Sandy, I'll help you look for your mind if you will help me find mine. They are floating around out there somewhere.

I have a tale of woe. I woke at two a.m. with hard leg pain, so put on my robe and slippers and went out to walk the hallways, and hopefully lose the pain out there. Coming back through the door a surprise was waiting for me. Half way through the door my cart collapsed, and me on top of it. lay there in shock for a bit, no one appeared as usual with the life line, so I poked at it several times, and then a nurse appeared, she called downstairs and here came another nurse, then a male nurse. The two girls got me back of my feet and into my recliner. The male took over the repair. Wouldn't you know…on my leg that they have been treating for two months, now has a relative just above the old wound. Fortunately the skin stayed in place, just a jagged cut in the skin which he taped in place and bandaged up. It really done me in though…too much shock I guess, so I spent the better part of the morning in bed, sleeping off and on due to the percocet they gave me for pain. Around 11 I stirred myself up and got dressed, had some coffee and a muffin. And now here. Whoopee.
As long as we are here, let's dance.
