I'm with Hal except for the coughing bit. My problem is swallowing wrong out of nowhere and engaging in a coughing fit. The wonders of aging.

Sandy

You mean  that I am not the only one who has coughing fits?

I remember an older friend doing it and offering her cough drops to which she replied irritably. Now I get it!

Mary Ann

I'm a member of that coughing/choking club too.  And it most often happens when I am home alone.

Mary Ann

I had my chili with crackers and cheese.  It was hot and delicious!

I'm going to be off to bed soon.  The zzzs were missing in my couch this afternoon and I'm tired so I'll say....

Good night Everyfriend and may God bless us every one!

Oh yes, count me in, so am I a member of the " choking " club...even choked on a sip of water one day last month, thought I was drowning.... ;D....seriosly though, no fun when your throat and airway is blocked, and you are gasping to take breath....and you start going blue in the face...it only comes back to life once I bring some wind up, do a burp....This usually happens when I inhale a tiny particle of food...

angelface555

Jackie mine comes out of nowhere as I seem to swallow somehow wrong and it cuts off my airways causing a coughing fit.

JoanFL

Good Tuesday morning, Everyfriend.   There's your choice of hot or cold cereal and choice of a fruit to accompany your coffee or tea. I wish everyone a great day!!

Food For Thought

Living For the King in 2017
(By Phyllis Eyerkuss)

I heard a message this weekend entitled “What Did You Give Jesus For Christmas?” A good question. How would we answer? Did we include Him in our shopping sprees and holiday parties? Did we remember the blessing of His birth as we gathered around our Christmas dinner? Was His Name mentioned as we tore through gifts? Or was the Christmas story just an afterthought as we careened through the hectic weeks of December?

"Praise the LORD, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise His Holy Name. Praise the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefitsâ€"" (Psalm 103:1-2 NIV)

In these verses David commands his soul to praise His God! He puts aside his kingly responsibilities, the concerns of his family, and the demands of his people to worship and praise Jehovah! Perhaps we should follow suit! As the world spirals out of control, we must stay grounded and focused on our King! We cannot be carried away with the things of the world, or caught up in its clutches of materialism and greed. Yes, we must be in the world, but we must not be of it!

I pray in this coming week we would all prayerfully consider the coming New Year! Considering that Jesus could return any day now, we should be more focused on being God’s hands and feet in the earth in 2017! Our Spiritual priorities should be much higher than our earthly aspirations! By focusing our “inmost being” on His Holy Name, we won’t lose sight of our primary mission of sharing the message of reconciliation between God and man (as 2 Corinthians 5:18-20 puts it). Once we remember that our God will supply all of our needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19), fear, anxiety and stress should be minimized! And when we can calm our soul with The Word, then worship comes quickly and ministry usually follows: a secret satan does NOT want you to know! Because IF he can keep us bound with earthly concerns, then the concerns of The Kingdom take second place. And I don’t know about you, BUT I don’t want to be caught off guard when that trumpet blasts!!!

I want to be found faithful and embracing all of the benefits of The Kingdom of God available in Christ! I don’t want to remember a manger once a year, or a Cross only on Easter. I don’t want to compromise the Truth of God’s Word with worldly traditions or thought, but I want the wonder and majesty of Jesus Christ to reign in my heart 365 days a year! I want to let The Holy Spirit consume me with His Presence and Power! I want to appropriate every drop of Blood that was spilled at Calvary and embrace the grace that was purchased there! I am a child of God and I belong to Him! And one day He will take me HOME for Eternity and I will live in His Presence forever! Beam me up Lord! And until that Day, may I live for You!

Thought of the Day

Look ahead with expectation and joy. Our King & Friend walks with us this new year.

Good morning
I just knew there would be a date with the snow blower this week and when the world has woke up some I will dance with the snow blower. At least it is much warmer out now at 16°F but the weather guessers are calling for more snow today and on Thur we are to get rain!!Really don't want the rain as we have a trip to the city on Fri for hubby's chemo.

Not a lot on the agenda today ,hope to get in some sewing later.

Gloria must be miffed at that darn computer, I still think the company needs to give her a new one and not a lemon like this one.

Larry, how does your wife like her new Featherweight machine?

Joan, thank you for breakfast.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning, Amy.  Sorry you have to dance with that snow blower again today.  I sure hope you do not get rain that turns to ice when you have to go for your husband's chemo.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  And a special good morning to you Joanie and Amy.

AMY, if I were GLORIA I certainly wouldn't stop at being "miffed".  I'd be FURIOUS!  And I think I'd have been in touch with the Better Business Bureau if one still exists.  Our local TV station has a team that investigates things like this and I have a feeling they'd have gotten her a new computer by this time.

I'll be off to Wally World to meet and greet with my public today.  This is one of those days that I wish I didn't have to go.

JOANIE, thanks for all the goodies.  I liked the inspirational reading and the computer solution sounds like me.

I wish you all a lovely day full of whatever you wish.

Janie, I agree with you.....enough is enough.I would let the company know that my next step is BBB and the tv/radio station to let everyone know of the piece of junk that was sold to this lady!!Gloria has been more than patient with this .
Have a great day at work..

Good morning, Janie.  I'm glad you liked the "stuff".  I wish you smiles at WM today.

Amy and Janie--I agree with you about Gloria's computer.  Long before this I would have had the TV investigator in on her problem.

Hi everyone.  It is currently 28 degrees but with the expectation of the mid-40's this afternoon.  We have a pretty busy day planned as Pat has a doctor's appointment at 10:15.  After that we plan on stopping at COSTCO so she can ordered new glasses, I can get mine adjusted and to pick up a few items as well as fill the gas tank for the car.  We also need to go to Walmart to pick up prescriptions for Pat.  Later this afternoon or early evening we plan on going to Ruby Tuesday's for our main meal of the day.

I didn't make it through all of the college football championship last evening but only the first half.  It looked like Alabama would win so was quite surprised when I looked at the score this morning and saw that our Clemson team had won.  It is a great honor for a South Carolina school.

Hal, having a walk-in shower is certainly a lot safer.  We don't have a tub in our master bathroom but there are tubs in the other two bathrooms in this house.  They get no use from Pat or me and never will.  I have a good friend whose master bath shower's floor is one you could wheel a bath chair into as there is on step over.  It has a slight slopping floor to the drain in the shower so the water doesn't get into the rest of the room.  It does sound like it could be an expensive spring for you.

Amy, you remind me of one of the two last housekeepers we had who could do anything, including plumbing.

Sandy, I don't think you had mentioned that you were fighting a cold.  Glad you are in the last stages of it and that your ears are back to clear hearing.

June, that must be a very sweet picture of your great grandchildren and the reindeer.  I hadn't put together the ordination of your grandson as being Ryan.  I thought maybe it was another grandson. Being a minister is a very difficult job and most of us see only a fraction of what they do. I sure don't envy you in trying to keep track of 16 medications plus.  I would certainly have to get medicine boxes with much bigger boxes for each day.

Callie, always a good thing to save some money on telephone or cable bills.

Joan, I had hoped that Gloria's computer problems were over but see that is not the case.

JaneS, I don't think I have ever had potatoes in my chili. I like mine with beans and always put some ketchup in it.  We usually put some cheese on it and a little dab of sour cream.

Amy, my wife loves her Featherweight machine.  She has done a little sewing on it.  She has set it up downstairs in the sunroom area so can use it anytime she wants without having to go to her sewing room.  When our son was wrapping it for Christmas he accidentally turned it upside down and apparently it bent the spool holder a little which concerned her.  However, he took it and straightened it and she doesn't think it will be a problem.  It sure is a quiet machine.

Good morning, Larry.  I'd say you have a very busy day ahead.  Gloria sure has more patience than I do.  I would have gotten  the TV investigator on the case long ago.  Thanks for the link.  Math was never one of my strong points.

Lloyd--Good morning.  That's pretty warm for up there.  It is only 63° at my house.

Beverly

Good morning from Florida on this sunny but briskly cool day! I came home from bocce about 30 min. ago. It was 50 when we started our game but has gone up to 60. My team won our game by 3 points.

Joan - Was it a little warmer than yesterday down there this morning?

Lloyd - I've often wondered if late night posts are seen as that's when I usually post mine. One of the problems of being a night owl!  :) I always read your posts but I can't get into the habit of posting daily. I don't get up early and am frequently "on the run" when I do get up. Plus, I'm not much of a communicator before I have my coffee. I have a mug given to me by a friend from Maryland. It says, "Crabby till I have my Coffee".  ;) I hope you begin to feel better soon.

Gloria - Hope you are able to get that computer running again. I agree with what several other people have said. Enough is enough!

Jane S. - I love chili but I want mine with lots of beans and a little on the soupy side. Always have mine with cornbread. I break up some of it into the bowl of chili. Yummy!

Amy - My husband is like you.........insists on doing most things himself rather than hiring someone. He always has! I've been "delicately" trying to tell him that some things are better hired out at his age.

June - I always enjoy reading your posts.

Larry - One of my bocce friends is from Alabama and she was disappointed in the game!

Hal - Last summer we had our A/C and furnace replaced and then our dishwasher broke down, (love my new one!). Plus some expensive and necessary dental work for both of us. I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop.   ::)

Sandy - I hope your ear problem was temporary. I have both impaired vision and hearing and it's not fun! Fortunately it doesn't all happen at once so gives you time to adjust.

Time to decide what to make for tonight's pot luck.

Mary Ann

Beverly, I always read all of the posts, whether posted at night or during the day and I usually read the night ones the next morning - when I am not awake enough to talk/post to anyone.
By the time I'm really awake, the posts are out of sight.  I usually feel I don't have that much to contribute anyway, but I like to get my 2c worth in occasionally.

Mary Ann

JoanFL

Beverly--Yes, it was a bit warmer this morning, and they say temps will continue to go up all week.  As you know, both my daughter and son and their families live in Alabama and they were not a bit happy about the outcome of last night's game.

Mary Ann--I always enjoy your posts.

It seems very quiet in here today, or I have come in on the wrong page..which would not surprise me. My mind is very foggy early in the day.....who am I kidding....foggy MOST of the day is more like it. In any case, I have to get myself down to the clinic for a bandage change, but first, the bed needs to be made. I need to wash my face, and dress, and gather the essentials I may need in case Claudia has time to chat ove prescriptions.....see y'all later. June
As long as we are here, let's dance.

I did get out of one dance with the snow blower., hubby thought he would have a go at it. Next dance is mine and I am not sure if I will do it later tonight or wait till this storm is over. It is blowing snow and no fun to be out in...think I should go sew.
I like listening to me... :2funny:

I'm home from work and customers told me that we would be getting anywhere from a micro measurement of an inch of snow to a foot.  We got a dusting.  But we are due for some freezing rain later and then just plain rain after that.  I'm in for the the day!  I have no plans to go anywhere and my care is under cover.  I'm inside, warm and cozy.

I like to hear from EVERYfriend on this site.  Please don't anyone refrain from posting because you think what you have to say is not interesting.  If you do that, I'll have to stop posting entirely because there's nothing exciting in my life.  And by darn, that's the way I want it these days.  The most exciting thing I do now-a-days is to get out of bed in the morning.  And some mornings I feel like shouting "HOORAY! ANOTHER DAY!

Amy--It's good to hear that your husband is feeling well enough to dance with the snowblower.

Janie--It's good that you can stay in and wait to see what transpires with the weather.  Like  you there is nothing interesting in my life and I am glad to just get out of bed every day.

Some days when I wake at 5 or 6 am, I argue with myself as to whether I get up so I can go back to bed in an hour or so, or do I lie in bed, trying to go back to sleep until 8 or 8:30 am.  Either way wins occasionally.  One reason I like to stay in bed is that it is warm in bed.  It's warm in the house too, but not as cozy!

We are having rain and it is 43 degrees out.  Tom was nice to get the mail when he was out anyway, so I didn't have to brave the elements.  It is not raining hard, just that it's a cold wet rain, not like the summer warm rains.

Mary Ann

CallieOK

Good Afternoon,

It's "shirt-sleeve" temperature in central Oklahoma!  Unbelievable that just a few days ago, the temperature was in the single digits.

I did all my errands this morning except go to the grocery store.  Decided to go a little after 1:00 p.m. because that's usually a good time.  WRONG!!!!!   The checker said it had been that crowded ever since she got there at 6:00 a.m.

(Janie, if your lines were like that today,  I'll bet the couch is shouting ZZZZZZ at you!)

Whyizit that, when older couples are grocery shopping, most of the husbands have to pick up, inspect and discuss every single item?  She's probably been buying the groceries on her own for 50 years - what's to discuss????

I do understand why so many people were there.  Probably restocking after our snow last weekend.
And now, the weather gurus can't decide if the OKC area is going to have flooding rain or a treacherous ice storm from Friday afternoon - or maybe Friday morning - or maybe even Thursday night.....until Sunday...or maybe Monday.....

Not unusual for the far northwestern part of the state to have freezing conditions and the far southeastern third to have severe thunderstorms.  We in the middle can have either, both or neither.

Now I need to prepare for a two-meeting day tomorrow.  Forgot to type up the minutes of the December church Circle meeting so that's first on the To-Do list.

Hoping Everyfriend Everywhere is having an Enjoyable Day.

Good noontime, (It least it is here.); everyone!

With yesterday's hot, pun intended, discussion on chili, this is what came in from one of my weekly recipe sites. So I had to share!

http://www.justapinch.com/recipes/easy-chili-recipes?utm_source=170110&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=marketing-cow

JaneS

Whoever it was that said the "couch zzzs would be hollering at me was right.  They even came and got me!  Boring is worse than busy at the store.  I was on a register with no one near me for an hour and I think I had a grand total of 8 customers.  Then someone was assigned to the register behind me and it got even deader.  Then someone was assigned to the register behind her and we had some very nice, very long conversations while waiting for customers.  Then I came home and left them to the boredom.

Patricia, what a coincidence!  I don't think any of them are like mine and mine isn't like it was the last time I made it.  It's never the same twice.  That's how I got my picky eater kid to try new things.  She'd say, "I didn't like that the last time we had it."  And I'd tell her, "We never had this before."  She'd have to take the prerequisite 3 bites and sometimes she liked this version.

I'm going eat the chili for supper again tonight.  You all didn't eat enough of it last night and I have lots of leftovers.  Of course, I don't really mind because it was gooooood!

It isn't raining yet.  I let the dogs out and they came in dry!  That's OK.  I don't care if it hold off until after we go to bed.

I hope Everyfriend is staying warm and cosy and enjoying the day.

Amy..I like your statement of agreeing with your own thoughts. It certainly makes life more pleasant doesn't it. Enjoy doing the sewing you love to do on a blustery winter day...the way to go girl !

Janie, we are all in agreement with one another today. I am lost when I cannot be with you all here, reading your plans and thoughts, and finding how similar our aims are. It is a treat.

Bis. I thought the same when Amy wrote of her husband blowing snow..how encouraging to find he is feeling that much better. It makes me so happy for both of them.

Mary Ann, you sound like me about staying in bed for another hour or so. The medicine girl brought in my thyroid pill early...it has to be done on an empty stomach, and when she left, I snuggled back under the comforter and snoozed till she came back with the next dose of meds. What a life. I feel like a queen with all the attention we get. I am hoping to get back to doing my own medicating though. I need that responsibility so my brain does not decay entirely. Our head nurse is so busy, and I have to talk with here...hopefully will see her Thursday so I can resume medicating myself.

We too are having a nice rainy day..gentle rains off and on which makes Home that much more cozy.

Where are Hall and LLoyd today ? I saw Larry earlier, but are our men giving up on us?  C'mon Guys ! look alive and give us your in-put on what is happening in your part of our wonderful country.

Callie, when we moved back to Ca. from Chicago with three little children under seven years of age, we rented a place in No. Long Beach...no store in the area just house after house after house. So Ed took over the marketing on his way home from work. He like it so well, he continued to be the "buyer" all the rest of our 62 years of married life, with the exception of the last year or so when his mind deteriorated.

Sandy, we are all in the same boat in our life styles so don't give up the ship. Dip in your oars and keep us interested in what your day is about.

Patricia, I assume you really enjoy your cooking....good for you. Those days are past for me. I went downstairs for lunch today. Main course for me was a stuffed baked potato...I ate every bit of it, except the skin. It was loaded with melting cheddar cheese, bacon, and various veggies, topped with sour cream and chives.Oooh....so Good.
As long as we are here, let's dance.
