June--My Life Alert functions like yours.  I don't know about dropping it, because that's never happened to me.

JeanneP and Vanilla-Jackie--Sounds like you have an abundance of knowledge about your medical problems and how our bodies function.

Now many of us remember Eloise. Beautiful Lady. Went to most of the Get togethers when in Seniornet. Was a shock when she past so fast. Was also a gentlemen for years in SN also. Lived close to Eloise. We didn't here from him almost at the same time that Eloise passed.  Fantastic Dancer they say. I know Glady's and he danced a lot together.

I just watch things that I am interested in when the Olympics are one. Just Can't stand the commercials. Silly to watch the bicycles racing. Just catch the begining  and the end. Same with swimming. Love to watch Gymnastics. Will watch the Horse riding. (Is this new.? Never saw it before but thought I saw it listed.)  Did watch a Travel show yesterday showing Brazil and Rio. Had to show mostly the poor areas. Beaches and the Fancy Hotels. Not the middle clase at all.
Some of my Family in UK like taking their holidays in Rio. Fact they named their youngest Son Rio.

Going to have to tell Molly. Just got a E-M from them in UK.  and next week they are leaving on  Holidays with the 4 youngest and going to Egypt for 2 weeks.  See not having any problems as one of their sons as been twice last 2 years.  Molly should take a trip and see her husbands family.
People from there who live in my town just returned back from Egypt. Says quite safe to go and lots of tourist from UK there. Safer than Europe now.

Good morning from a startlingly sunny day in the Interior! I wonder how long it will last. It is an hour later and it is cloudy again !

Farrah is getting bored as after one of her naps she will come to me, touch a leg and say "er-wa." I wish I was allowed a second cat as she would then have company. I am just too old and unwieldy to play as rough with her as she probably needs or wants.

Whenever I speak directly to her, she will answer in a questioning tone. I've seen this in other cats, but it is always fun to attempt a conversation with her!

I didn't watch the Olympics as I do not have a television and have loads of paperwork to get through. I went through the tennis match last week with the doctor regarding medical information, tests and scheduling more details gathering in the future. Not something I'm looking forward to but hopefully the result will be worth it. I have to say after my father and my daughter, I am not as trusting with doctors as perhaps I should be.

I was asked about several committees here and a couple of building board offices, but I have declined as I have so much other occupying my time these days. I filled out paperwork applications for a new medic alert that will be through my phone, one for a CNA although I'm not sure why on that one and one for a housekeeper that I know I need assistance. I am fine cleaning the middle of the apartment, just need someone to catch the top and bottoms!

One new thing I've noticed besides the shaking  I have when attempting simple jobs such as filling the water in the coffeepot is a lack of strength in my fingers. For example, pushing buttons or typing requires remembering to thump the key or button rather than tapping it. My childhood spinal meningitis aftereffects are meeting up with my arthritis and eagerly joining forces!

Vanilla-Jackie

Joan, " I take a leaf out of the ( same ) book " after Junedrabek, she too looks up everything medical on the internet.....I am now a dab hand at doing that...

angelface555

Jackie, my mantra is and I highly advocate it, "Google is my friend!"

phyllis

Yes, Google can be very informative but beware, it isn't always accurate.  The info is only as good as the author who wrote it.  My doctor doesn't mind if I Google something, in fact she encourages it, but she says only go to a trusted site.  She uses WebMD and recommends that to me, as well.  Some doctors don't want you to Google because it is easy for a layman to mis-interpret the articles they find and become alarmed over something that doesn't even apply to them.

Hot again and humid.  Tomorrow "they" are promising cooler.  Please let them be right!

When I see a new site on Google, I look first to my WOT or Web of Trust app. Not only does it note suspicious behavior or malware, stopping you from reaching the site and letting you know so you can decide to stay or go, it also contains users, not company reviews of that site.

There are some sites on the web as well that give you reviews of sites similar to WOT. You just have to look and then vet them as well. One thing to look out for is company-sponsored studies that look realistic but aren't and a good sign to never go near the site again or buy any of its products.

Since I am disabled since birth and am familiar with doctors, studies, exams, and systems, I tend to be very critical and note everything said to look up later. When my daughter was ill for three years and then with my father, it depended on the money you had and who was paying the bill that determined the amount of attention and care you received.

Many doctors, unable or unwilling to simply state they didn't know, requested a second opinion somewhere else. One eye doctor even told me that there was nothing wrong, that sometimes, insecure teenage girls did this sort of thing for attention. This was a month and a half before she died of a brain tumor. Of course, after her death, I received letters from almost every doctor she saw, including that eye doctor telling me they had lawyered up. Not a note of sympathy either.

So I would say, you are your best doctor and source of reference. However, when searching do so intelligently and cynically, don't accept information simply because it sounds good or if it agrees with your thoughts or opinions.

JoanFL

JeanneP--Could the gentleman you refer to be Robby.  If so, he didn't live near Eloise.  I think he lived in Virginia.  I, too, only watch the events in the Olympics that interest me.

Angelface--Good thing you are getting all your medical concerns checked out.

Vanilla-Jackie--I use the internet, too, to look up many things.

JeanneP

JoanFL. Now I remember Robby. For some reason I am thinking there was also one In Montreal. Just can't think who. Lot of years gone bye now. Forgotten many of the ones that were in Seniornet.
JeanneP

JaneS

Peter and his lovely wife lived in Montreal or nearby.  He did a lot of travelling very cheaply.  And he was at the Montreal Bash.  He and his wife sat at our table at the closing dinner.  He was very nice and I have a picture of him in my gallery that comes up on my screen saver sometimes.  I can't remember his last name but I think it also began with a P.

Beverly and I have had a busy and a tiring and a rewarding day.  Everything we did was good.  Now we're having fresh corn on the cob for supper and leftover pizza from last night with fresh cantelope for dessert and a glass of wine with it all.  Then we're both going to collapse in the living room and watch the Olympics.

Enjoy your evening Everyfriend!

Phyllis, depending on what medical thing I question, I either Google, use Web MD, or Mayo clinic. Web MD is great for learning about medications too.

I am certain that I have learned more since I received my first Apple computer than in all the previous years I lived. I think following through on something that truly interests us, gives us more retention that the years we spent in school trying to learn the things the teacher had been told we should be taught, but that we had no interest at all in learning and remembering. Just my opinion.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

JeanneP

JaneS. Now that name Peter does sound Familiar.

I had the privilege of seeing Eloise and Robby at several Bashes, including the one in Montreal. She was delightful and a joy to know.   I have a picture of Robby and me dancing at the Bash in Tucson.

WebMD and Mayo are two sites I use frequently as guidelines or for explanations.

For many years, Luby's and Furr's were big cafeterias  in this area.  Loved going to either of them.
Now - everything is a "buffet" and I don't think the "safety" guards are much help.

This has been a "leisurely" day around my house.  The most useful thing I did was one load of laundry.  We had a nice rain overnight so I don't have to water the pot garden this evening.

Guess I'll see how many commercial breaks there are on the Olympic broadcast tonight.  I gave up on watching the Opening Ceremonies.

Sleep well, Everyfriend and have pleasant dreams.

Mary Ann

I remember a man in Montreal whose name I don't remember; I thought it was a French-Canadian name, but Peter doesn't fit that description.  I had been on a tour that took us to Montreal and I took a picture of the building that had housed Olympians when the Olympics were held there.  Somehow or other I sent it to him, whether e-mail or having someone post it for me.  Long, long time ago.  I think he had three names.  I might have been in Montreal in 2007.

JaneS

I think Peter's last name was Payan or something like that.  I remember his wife had an elegant French look about her but she was very down-to-earth and friendly.  So was Peter.  I really enjoyed visiting with them during dinner and Peter and I had chatted earlier in our group's social room.

I'll be off to Dreamland in a few minutes.  I wish you all a peaceful sleep and a happy awakening.  May God bless us Every One.
