Larry - He has only a pacemaker. They did the incision in the same place for him, too, and he had no problem with pain. It's amazing the the things they can do in medicine today.

Not sure how long this will last, but today's outside temp is still at 80. It's overcast and we have had a light rain.

Joan - I am trying to send some of this cooler air down your way!

Feels like naptime.  :)

Hal asked about the eye dr. apt and I realized that I hadn't said what it was for.  This one was with a retina specialist and I found out that there was some pigment discoloration that had worried my eye dr. a bit and that's why she sent me there.  And I also found out that she wanted to rule out the possibility of macular degeneration.  The did do that!  Thank you God!  He said that there is nothing to worry about at this time so I'm not going to worry.  But my eyes were dilated so much that I still couldn't see well when I went to bed.

As to the rain, we did have rain off and on most of the day and evening but not thunderstorms.  Just nice gentle, misty rain.  Oakmont, where the Open is, is in the Pocono Mt. area and there are other mountains between here and there.  The worst of it stayed there and I think we got the fringes.

I just got dropped off by a guy from the garage.  They are holding my car hostage and I'm sure the ransom will be stiff.  The A/C isn't working and there is a leak in the water cooling system which they do seem able to locate.  It always wears me out to pay bills on the car.  With all this insurance available wouldn't you think you could get "Car Medical Insurance"?

Just in case they can't get it fixed before they close at 5:30, I've arranged with my neighbor to give me a ride to work at 6 p.m.  I'm working an evening shift tonight.  I'm sure there will be someone else leaving at 10 when I do but Cheri said if I don't have a ride, call her and she'll come back and get me.  Such nice neighbors.

I think it's time to check out the zzzs on the sofa.

Beverly--I'll appreciate every drop of rain you can send.

Janie--Glad to hear the eye specialist found nothing to worry about at this time.  I already found my zzzzz's about an hour ago.  Hopefully the cost of your car repair won't be atrocious.

The whole world seems to be now coming very International.  That is good. I like living here in this town for the same reason. Thing is we a becoming the minority all over the country it seems. If only people could be accepted for the religions. Colour, still a long way to go
I have traveled a lot in the past and seen the beauty in most countries I went to. Now to see the ruination of a lot of them. things gone that were centuries old. Never to be replaced. Makes one wonder why people can't be educated, have work and good lives and never want to leave their own countries.  I have met so many who would rather have stayed in them had life been better.
I am sure that people asked themselves centuries ago. Why are there Wars when world so big.  Still now answer to it. Now it is just getting more Greed and troubles.

Gee, I had better shower and leave the house. Getting morbid.  Thing is it is 90 deg. Planning to go to a outdoor concert and see a little bright side of life at 6pm. Hope it cools

JeanneP--It does one good to get out of the house.  Hope there's some shade so the hot sun won't be beating down on you.

Sure has been quiet here in the SS this afternoon.

June Drabek

I have posted my Congratulations to Bubble and Don in the photo section.

Gloria de, I pray that all goes well with your Grandson. Your Great Dane truly did have a nice long life for such a big dog..I like his name Tiny ! No matter how big the dog, they are still our babies at heart. I'm glad you went out to be with your friends dear, it does help to be with others in time when you would be worrying.

I have had a nice quiet day. Went down for lunch, and a visit to the clinic to pick up some meds that came in. Had good conversations with my lunch buddies,  and I  had a phone call from Gary and Dori. They really enjoyed their visit to Bend Ore., said it was so nice and green, but very crowded. They were calling from the car..were about an hour from their sons' home in McCall, Ida. I can almost hear the loving greetings happening about now. They will stay there about a week then get home to rest before going to Church next Sunday. This Sunday their oldest son will speak at their Church.

We have a warmer day today, 84 degrees, and the humidity is greater than what we ever had in Hemet, so I will have to reacclimatize myself from Hemet  to Stanton as summer wears on. I have a nice new A.C. unit and a great ceiling fan, so i will manage nicely.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Mary Ann

Don and Bubble, I'll give you a second congratulations here.  I think it is wonderful.

Mary Ann

CallieOK

Congratulations, Bubble and Don.

halkel

Don and ET, well you finally said what I suspected.  It couldn't happen to nicer people.  Congratulations.

Okay, who jinxed me, our air conditioner went out tonight and we are off to stay with my oldest daughter.  I tried calling my a/c guy, no answer.  But I haven't used him in so long he may have gotten out of the business.

Beverly

Hal - Guess it's just that time of year! Our A/C completely died this past week and we had to replace it. Hope yours is fixable. Our temps were in the 100s when ours went out. We were going to a hotel but decided to stick it out. (Probably not a good choice as it made us both literally sick.) Glad you have family nearby.

Good Saturday morning, Everyfriend.   There's scones to accompany your coffee or tea. I wish everyone a good day!!

CHUCKLES

Cats

I telephoned the veterinarian's office to ask when I should take my three month old kitten in to be vaccinated for rabies. After a few initial questions, the woman who answered the telephone asked, "What is the kitten's name?"

"Demon," I replied.

"Demon? That's an odd name," she said.

"Maybe, but it's appropriate anyway."

I heard clicking of a computer keyboard, then she said, "Our records show that you have cats named Gato [which is Spanish for 'male cat'], Scamp, Stinky, and now you named one Demon. Is that right?"

"Yes, it is."

"You really don't like cats, do you?"

What God Has Promised
(By Annie Johnson Flint)

God has not promised skies always blue,
Flower-strewn pathways all our lives through.

God has not promised sun without rain,
Day without sorrow, peace without pain.

But God has promised strength for the day,
Rest for the labor, Light for the way.

Grace for the trials, help from above,
Unfailing sympathy,
Undying love . . .

Good morning Everyfriend!  And a special Good Morning to the two swimmers!  I extended my congratulations in Photos but let me second them here.

I have a day off.  What shall I do with it?  I'll have to find some mischief to get into sometime today.  I'll have to wait for my car to be fixed before I can go anywhere.  I called them right before closing and they had not yet found the leak in the water line.  This sounds like it's getting into $$$.  Maybe I'll just sit around and worry today.  Oh well!  What happens...happens!

Have a lovely day, Everyfriend!

Good morning everyone.

Congratulations to Don and Bubble!!

Going to be another hot one here today. I am getting my work done up early then I can do little the rest of the day

The trip to the city went well till I came home another way and got hung up in construction. She has to go back in Aug for another check up  but everything looked good they said. The nurse showed us the wire that went from the pacemaker to the heart..amazing how it works!!

Better put an egg in my boot and beat it before the heat of the day is here.

Jane, enjoy your day off..I don't have to find mischief ,it usually fins me :)

Joan thank you for breakfast.

Enjoy your day everyone..

Good Saturday morning Everyfriends.....

Re, our Benji's cancer.....what I suggested to R early this morning is that female vet said we shall monitor him by bringing him in now and then...but what I said to R we shall do is to bring Benji in maybe in a weeks time but, I shall specifically ask not to see her, but to see one of two male vets who in the past done an anal gland search, although said lump felt soft, female vet said lump is now feeling hard...the other male vet who done Benji's teeth op, also looked for body lump while he was under anaesthetic but never found it....I-we just need to hear another vets opinion, see if they are in agreement...without doing tests or opp's, I wont allow that to happen to Benji, wont put him through any of that...unless of course its to save his life...

Good morning, Janie.  I know you'll be glad when you car is fixed.  Then you can throw your concern in the "worry" waste basket.

Amy--Good morning.  Sorry you got caught up in construction yesterday.  I never heard the saying "Put an egg in my boot and beat it".  I'll have to remember that one.

Good morning, Vanilla-Jackie.  Good luck getting Benji rechecked by a different vet.  Glad you enjoyed "What God Has Promised".

I posted my congratulations to Bubble and Don in Photos, but I'll happily wish them well again here in the SS.

I'll add my congratulations for Don and Bubble.  Many best wishes for your happiness.

Beautiful day here but I have no plans.  I'll have to look around and see what mischief I can get in to.

Gloria

Good morning everyone. Lost track of how long I was on the phone yesterday or what they did but this PC is running again.

PHYLLIS  you are right about missing a loved pet for years. I still miss the dog my son had, I always called her my dog. She would hardly let me out of my car because she would want to get in closer to me. She followed me around when I was at their house like my shadow.

HAL  at least HP is better than Dell. All the trouble I had with the last one they never did anything but tell me it was a good computer and nothing wrong with it.  I did ask yesterday about getting a different pc but that went over their heads.

JUNE and LARRY  when I have ordered from Blair I always call. I do better talking to a person. When I get groceries delivered that has to be done on the computer and I do not like that.

JOAN  there is a nice feeling getting into bed with fresh sheets. I still miss drying them out in the sunshine. That is when they really smelled good, too.

GLORIA de  like you if I see red lights flashing at night I know that rescue is here. Tuesday I have an appointment and there is rain in the forecast for then. Prayers for your grandson.

DON  congratulations to you and BUBBLE. She is a very nice lady a good cook  and helpful, too.

HAL  no time to be with no AC. Wonder wonder how we survived before having our homes cooed with AC. I would never wish anyone without in the summer.

JOAN  a scone will be great with my coffee this morning. Food for Thought, so true. If all we had were blue skies and flowers in our paths we wound not know how to face adversity. Thank you for today's goodies.

AMY  about time you have a restful day. We always said put an egg in your shoe and beat it.

Anyhow, I came home and put the coffee on, those that want to join me on the patio are welcome.

Hi everyone on what is starting out to be a great day.  It is only 71 degrees outside now and we are only suppose to get to 85 this afternoon after reaching 100 degrees yesterday and setting a new record for this area.  We got just a little bit of rain yesterday afternoon but some parts of this area had heavy rains and winds and lost power with trees down.

Nothing special to comment on for yesterday other than we now have a nice clean house.  It was so hot yesterday that we decided not to go out for lunch as we usually do on the day the housekeeper comes.  Today will probably be a repeat of yesterday as don't have any plans to go out other than perhaps to put gas in my PT Cruiser while it is a cool morning.  I will watch some of the U.S. Open Golf Tourney if it isn't rained out.  They are running pretty much behind.  However, sure I will find plenty to keep myself occupied.

June, you shouldn't feel guilty having someone help you with the housework for two reasons.  The first is that you are paying for the service in your monthly fees.  Secondly, that is providing a job for someone who might otherwise not have work.  We have had to have the help of a housekeeper for probably 10 years or more.  We pay her well and she does a good job and is very dependable and agreeable.

deAngel, sure hope your G. Son came through the surgery well and will be able to regain the use of his leg.  That is very frightening.

Beverly, when they had me see the doctor about the pacemaker I thought it would be a waste of time.  However, the doctor explained that with my heart condition I was at risk for sudden cardiac arrest and therefore needed  the pacemaker/defibrillator.  It won't prevent another heart attack but could restart my heart in the event of having one and give me a chance to survive, which is comforting.

JaneS, so happy to read that the maculer degeneration was ruled out.  Hope you get your car back quickly.

Hal, glad you had a place to stay cool until your A/C is fixed.  We would have to go to a motel but hope that won't be necessary since we have a new heat pump.  I was worried the one in the old house, that was 18+ years old, would go while we still lived there but it didn't.

Joan, I really liked your Food for Thought today and plan on using it a week from tomorrow as a part of the devotion I will bring to our Sunday School class.

Jackie, sounds like a good plan on having a second vet confirm the diagnosis.

Gloria, if you continue to have problems with your HP you might want to ask for a supervisor.  I had this experience and the supervisor could authorize a replacement computer and actually sent me one that was twice as much as I had paid for the one I was having trouble with.  This was a Lenovo computer.  I don't know what HP might do but that approach was successful for me.

Mary Ann

I did not have an a/c until I moved into this condo in 1981.  And from 1960 to 1976 I had a cottage where I spent weekends.  Of course, I didn't have an a/c there, either.  During the time I was at the cottage my house was closed up and during the week I worked so things were closed up.  When I would get home at night, I'd open up the house and when I went to bed, I had a fan going in my bedroom.  While I rarely have the a/c going at night, I do have it going during the day.  It is such a relief and I hardly am aware of heat - until I go for the mail.

Mary Ann

JoanFL

Good morning, Phyllis.  It's another hot and humid day here, so I won't be going out.

Gloria--Good morning.  Glad to hear your PC is up and running.  I hope that's the end of your troubles with it.  I'd have another dog in the blink of an eye if we could have fences here.  I am not physically able to take a dog for walks.

halkel--Good morning. Hopefully there's just something minor wrong with your a/c.  If mine goes, I'll have to go to a hotel/motel because I couldn't breathe in this torrid weather.

Good morning, Larry.  Hopefully our weather will cool down a bit, like yours did.  Glad you can use "Food for Thought" in your Sunday School class.

Mary Ann--Good morning.  We didn't have a/c until we moved to Arkansas in 1980.  In NY there were few days that it was needed and for the most part fans sufficed.

Well, I found something to get into.  I decided the kitchen needed some attention so I obliged.  And now the rug between the sink and the dishwasher is almost dry and ready to replace.  When the rug finished washing and went in the dryer, I decided to wash my work clothes...and a few other things, too.  You can't call it w**k and give me demerits because it's a pleasure to see a clean kitchen.  Now if they'd just call and say my car is ready and it's really CHEAP!

God is good.  The doorbell rang and when I answered it, it was my a/c guy.  He wasn't suppose to be here until some hours from now.  Found the problem quickly, replaced a capacitor and now it is running and cooling.  His bill was quite reasonable, 125 dollars, and he was off to the help finish up his original job.

Halkel, isn't it a pleasure when things run better than the way we plan it, re your a/c man turning up pronto and putting things right...now if only all workman were like this, if only....

Jane S, Wishing you the same luck as Halkel, re, your chosen car repair man....
.............................
I guess it has been on your tv news of the sad news of one of our UK female MPs, the shooting and stabbing dead a young wife-mother of two young children whist out and about on a public constituency meeting, who also done so much work for charities....such a sad story, re, Jo Cox...so many " crazies " at large...

JoanFL

Janie--OK--no demerits.  Now I hope the car repair is not costly.

halkel--You won.  "Mr. Fixit" arrived early and you just needed a capacitor.

Vanilla-Jackie--Inexpensive repairs make us all smile, I think.:)

Beverly

Good morning. Our few cool days are history......temps were back up in the 90s before 10:00.

In the north we didn't need central A/C. We had window air conditioners in later years, especially in bedrooms on the second floor.  Down here it's not really a choice. It doesn't cool down much in the evening. I honestly don't know how people survived many years ago before electricity (no refrigeration or ice) and no electric fans.

Jackie - Second opinions are always a good idea. I've been watching the news about Jo Cox.......so sad.

Larry - Chape wasn't given a choice. His heart rate dropped to 30 and below and I had to call 911. They did an emergency pacemaker (through an artery in his neck) at the hospital. Your pacemaker/defibrillator has probably improved your quality of life.  I know that without the pacemaker I wouldn't have him!

Hal - That is great news about your A/C! Wish we had been so lucky.

Joan - Thanks for posting "Food for Thought". (and I loved the piece about cats!)

A comfortably cool house is on my gratitude list for the day. Now to see if I can accomplish something this afternoon.

Jane S. - I need some of your ambition!

halkel

I too hope Janie's car problem is just a hose or better yet just a loose clamp on a hose.

Jackie, to us it seems like everything is topsy turvey but looking back into history it seems assassination of politicians has been around forever.  But it seems politicians seemed to always be making people choose either or and talking about compromise.   When they themselves wont compromise.

I am going to see if Janie lost any zzz's in my couch.

Oh, Beverly, how we managed with no a/c was daytime we seemed always to have a good breeze.  Drank lots of water, sought out shade when we didn't have to be in the sun and slept outside at night.  Inside you would feel like you were smothering, it never failed that sundown the wind would lie still.  It would still be hot outside, but tolerable, except mosquito's would sometimes eat you alive or so it seemed.  But us kids used to watch for "falling stars" and believe it or not along in the wee hours it got downright chilly and you wanted a cover.  It was not unusual to  have screened in sleeping porches, we had one or seeing beds in peoples yards.

Lindancer

Good afternoon. Another nice day, beautiful sleeping weather.  Tuesday, may get to 90.

Larry, Jesse is still in ICU, I talk to his mother this morning.  When ever he gets out of the hospital, he will have to go to rehabe for spinal cord injuries.  Right now he nees prays.

Congration Don and Bubble.

Beverly, I agree with you about AC, I wonder how we ever got along without it.  When we lived in Charleston,SC in the early 1940's, we only had big fans.  I know one year it was so hot they fried and egg on Broad st.

MaryAnn, we did not have AC when we moved into our Mobile Home, but we got it after the first hot summer 1984

Joan, enjoyed the cat story. Thanks as always for goodies.

Gloria glad to see your PC is working again
