I know better than type in the posting box but do it anyway sometimes & cry & moan when I lose it... like what just happened. :uglystupid2:

Hal, I'm glad you are doing better, I've read about that treatment, heard great reviews so hope it works...make that "pray" it works.

Beautiful link, Gloria.  Don't know why I feel so weepy about the war this year, guess because so many of the guys & other family members from those years are gone now.  Seems like this is the only place to find others that care and remember.

Mycheal, touching poem... well written.  Thanks.

It has been a very long day for me and I want to get up early to take flowers to the baby area of one cemetery and to the mausoleum for my husband about 5 miles apart.  The cars will be bumper to bumper all week end, no rain tomorrow but predicted for Sunday, Monday & all next week.  I do this while I can, not everyone feels the need but I do, nobody is right & nobody wrong.  My sister has never been to visit our parents, says they are in Heaven & don't know.  I know they visited the graves of their parents & took flowers, usually peonies, every year and the whole town had a picnic after the graves were cleaned & decorated.  Little town had 2 cemeteries & we were related to darn near everyone in both ... and they were divided by only a wire fence because most of the families were like ours, had kin buried in both.  I like to read the names and remember.

Shut up, Shirley....  ::)    Good night, God Bless.   :smitten:

Jeanne Lee, Jane S, thank you both for your advise re, choosing light fittings, I have thought about that, whether one bulb or three, and the height, and nobody wants the job of cleaning brass.....but those days of me changing light bulbs is well in the past, could not stand on a chair if I tried, and if I could, I would not be able to look up, or stretch up to put one in, that job now has to go to R, and he is not the brightest if the lighting is more complicated..... :-[

The previous owners said they liked the chandelier lighting they had up and couldn't find the same Items again, so they were adamant that they were taking them with them.....also have to get a basic shade for the landing and my bedroom, and probably another for Rs bedroom unless he is happy with the " purple'ish - pink " chandelier shade that is already up there....I guess he isn't, but says he could live with it....

Another thing important to me with choosing our living room light fittings is, I don't want " bright..." I want that cosy warm feeling to the room....

Micheal, Everyfriend, thank you, very touching, very moving, brought tears to my eyes....But also not let us forget those still living, if any still are from WW2, being in their 90's....as my late father lived his life very affected and damaged from what he saw on the frontline as a paratrooper, fighting the Germans and the Japs....some things he told me, you would never be shown in the war films shown on tv......many who survived came home damaged, some to never speak of what they witnessed or what they done....and the ones who did talk, spoke of as if it was yesterday....I, like Everyfriends, pray for the day all manner of war ends, and our world lives in peace....So many boys who lied about their age, just so they could join up and do their bit for their country, robbed themselves of a life, and a future generation, so sad, so pointless and unnecessary......and so many mothers lost their " baby's " that day...some more than one never returned home.....

Just want to add, I grew up listening to both horror stories and some humour'us from my father....stories like....the " French letters " they had to blow up ( much larger than the ones we have today ) to place them under their armpits as floats, to get them safely across water...never see that on the films....

Literature Buff Message

A literature buff, my friend Larry installed an answering machine on his telephone. Instead of the usual instructions about leaving a message, Larry recorded a parody of Hamlet's famous soliloquy:

"To speak, or not to speak, that is the question. Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to leave a message after the beep, or to take arms against a sea of answering machines, and by opposing, end them. To dial, to speak, no more. Thus answering machines do make cowards of us all."

Food For Thought

He Knows What We Need
LIZ CURTIS HIGGS

“Get up, take your mat and walk.” Mark 2:9b (NIV)
Get ready, friend. Jesus is “in the house” (Mark 2:1, ASV), and it’s standing room only. In fact, that day in Capernaum, “they gathered in such large numbers that there was no room left, not even outside the door” (Mark 2:2a, NIV). People surely stepped on one another’s sandaled feet and craned their heads to get a better look.
Whatever they were seeking, the Lord gave them what they needed: “and he preached the word to them” (Mark 2:2b, NIV). Whether we’re fully aware of it or not, that’s what our souls hunger for most: God’s Word. We may pray for material things or mended relationships or financial blessings or easier lives, but what our hearts truly want is to hear His truth and experience His presence.

Jesus encountered a man that day who wasn’t content with simply hearing Him speak. This man wanted to be changed, forgiven, healed. He wanted Jesus, but he needed help to reach Him. Then, “Some men came, bringing to him a paralyzed man, carried by four of them” (Mark 2:3, NIV). What a perfect picture of how we’re to bear one another’s burdens!

Sadly, no one made room for a paralyzed man on a mat. No one gave up their place. So, his resourceful buddies “made an opening in the roof above Jesus” (Mark 2:4b, NIV) and lowered the paralyzed man into the house.

The crowd must have looked up in astonishment as a man on a mat entered the room through a door that didn’t exist before. A helpless man who didn’t have the ability to create that opening or lower himself down.  This is how God rescues us, beloved. It is not of our own doing. The Holy Spirit is our Helper, our Comforter, our stretcher-bearer, delivering us to the only One who can save us.
When He looked up, “Jesus saw their faith” (Mark 2:5a, NIV). Yes, their faith, not just the faith of the paralytic man. Faith might be invisible, but the evidence of it was clear in their brave, bold, collective move.

Then Jesus spoke directly to the man lying before him. “Son, your sins are forgiven” (Mark 2:5b, NIV).

Oh, my. We weren’t told the man was a sinner. We thought he was merely stricken with a malady and in need of a physician.
But Jesus was far more concerned with the state of the man’s soul than the state of his body. Like many of us, this man on the mat was paralyzed with fear, with shame, with guilt. Jesus had to address that first, just as He does with us.  At once, the deed was done. Jesus told him “the penalty is remitted, the sense of guilt removed, and you are made upright and in right standing with God” (Mark 2:5b, AMPC). Glory!  But not everyone in the crowd was pleased. The teachers of the law watched all this unfold and thought to themselves, “‘Why does this fellow talk like that? He’s blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?’” (Mark 2:7).
How this truth must have irked them! Because if no one can forgive sins except God, then Jesus must be …
Right. God. In the flesh.

With the crowd hanging on His ev0ery Word, Jesus told the teachers of the law, “But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins” (Mark 2:10a). To further prove His power, Jesus said to the paralyzed man “I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home” (Mark 2:11, NIV).

The man arrived unable to do any of those things. He couldn’t stand, he couldn’t hold his mat, and he definitely couldn’t head for home on his own. Now, because of Jesus, he “walked out in full view of them all” (Mark 2:12a, NIV).

No wonder people praised God, saying, “We have never seen anything like this!” (Mark 2:12b, NIV). Now, you and I have seen it as well, through the eyes of a broken man made whole.

Lord, You really do know what we need most: Your truth, Your forgiveness and the freedom You offer us through Your Son. Give us the humility to accept help and seek You, whatever it takes. Only You can forgive. Only You can heal. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Good Morning everyone.
Molly  to try to clear up,yes I posted about head and pillow contact, and Shirley you are right getting old sucks.
Molly my problem is from the accented i had from roiling my four wheeler again. Not as bad as about two years ago.
if i had a brain I would take it out and play with it I think. two years ago they drilled two holes in left side of my head
and let the blood out with a tube and before all my brains ran out they plugged the front hole with a titanium screw.
this time not quite as bad only had a 1/4" blood on the brain (I must be part vampire) they said my bod die will consume the blood.when I set down on the side ob bed(not so bad) and lay down My head spins.(Tarbell felling for a few seconds )
then it quits and when I am tired enough I go to sleep fine, with a few nature calls through the night. when it first happend the first time i woke and could only make jabber like a little kid could not make words spent 10 days in hp nick and tip but god decided he was ant ready for me up there. only 3 days in Hp  this time only had 1/4" blood on brain and it only affected my memory short term, they say that is normal for old people ( I will tell you when I get Old) so far only my bodied is all that wants to do that. my brain still enjoys looking at you young Ladies.Have a good day

Good morning everyone.

Looking like rain, let's hope that it does rain!
Yesterday was a fun day with the kids, then daughter in love and I left the two men in the vehicle with the a/c going and we fabric shopped. We both came away happy, especially me as I found the perfect backing for my blue quilt!

Today is laundry day here...after I do a bit of grocery shopping and go to the Co-op to pick up dog food.

Good morning Lloyd.

Gloria ,so far no a/c on in the house but today may change that if we get into the 90's!

Joan ,thank you for breakfast.

Enjoy your day everyone..

Lloyd Hammond, one things for sure, you past and present brain injuries have definitely not affected your good humour....and in my book, humour, smiles and laughter are the only things that keep us going....natures best medicine....

Good Saturday morning, almost lunchtime here......Weathers dry, but looks a tad grey'ish with glimpses of sun.....I have been up since 6.15, an hour later than usual but then last night I dozed off for I know not how long, before I got up and found my way to bed, round about midnight I think....

Already done a couple of postings this morning, before Joan came along with our breakfast, talk about Sun, where is she? not been in for three weeks.....

JoanFL

Good morning, Lloyd.  I hope soon you'll be completely healed.

Amy--Good morning.  Good that you found fabric you needed.:)  I'm wishing for rain, too.

Vanilla-Jackie--Good morning/afternoon.  I agree with you about Lloyd's sense of humor.

I wish you all a good day!  Feel good, be happy and have fun!

I have been doing that thing called " work " again....didn't realise how much kitchen we got....I have been meaning to take up blue matting previous owners left us, this matting is fine, just has tiny holes within the pattern, I had often lifted the corner up only to find broken dried spaghetti pasta underneath so I knew bits of food was getting through....not my pasta but from previous owners....While R was out I lifted the mat, rolled it up, placed it outside the back door, part shaking it....lifted up the dogs water bowls, moved the spin dryer and birdseed bucket, then hoovered, ( vacuumed ) the wooden laminate floor, then mopped over it, that was one half of the floor done....Waited for that half to dry...then R came home, got him to help roll the matting back before starting on the other side, the breakfast table side......So the both of us moved the table and four chairs, the other matting, the same as the first, only more of it...the tumble dryer machine tucked to the side before I done the whole process over again......How has our kitchen gotten larger?......all this has started my MS off, doesn't take much, the heaviness around the stomach, the achiness in the lower centre of my backside, not forgetting the top of leg vibrations....had to do some resting in-between doing the two halves, anyway job done, kitchen now smells fresh as a lemon....should be ok for the next couple of months.....

Vanilla-Jackie--You sure have been doing some heavy cleaning in your kitchen.

Hi everyone.  It is a clear sky and only to get to 83 degrees this afternoon, a bit cooler than yesterday.  Yesterday was a nice quiet day and I expect today will be the same here at home.  I will just work on a couple of projects here at my desk.  I plan on watching some of the golf tourney later this afternoon.

Gloria, they say laughter is the best medicine and I think that is true and smiling is a close second.  It sounds like your temperatures are about like ours in the high 80's.  At least suppose to be low 80's today.

Jackie, I looked at your link to the lighting and Cantabria 6ft Fitting looks much like the one we had in our last house in the dining room and it had a dimmer switch.  I am sure whatever you choose will be quite nice.  I am happy for you that you now have a very nice home.

Jenny, that is a nice achievement achievement for Mark.   Glad you are safely home and take good care of that foot.  Glad you explained what is involved in the certification process and the different levels of the PGA as I had the same question.

Shirley, I have to admit a tear or so in my eyes as well when I watched that salute to our old service members. I was only five or six when the war ended and was shielded from the hardships of it.  Stay safe with all of those storms and bad weather out in Kansas.  Hope you have a basement where you can go if a tornado is spotted anywhere close to you.

JaneS, glad to read you were able to get your A/C working again.  It sounds like that rude customer was a very unhappy person and is probably rude to everyone.  Hope you didn't let him upset for more than a couple of minutes.  That sounds like a lonely bad of potato chips as it kept calling and you ignored it.

Mycheal, thanks for the Memorial Day poem.

Hal, I am keeping an eye on the weather but it looks like where I live is so far inland that it is unlikely we will even get any rain from it.  Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas have really had a rough Spring weather-wise and it sounds like it isn't over yet.

halkel

Good Morning Everyone!

Still no rain here, all around us, but none for us.  My oldest and her husband went to Houston for the weekend to visit his kids and got caught in their storm.  Carrol called and said they were there and had no problems except the heavy rain really cut down on the visibility.

Nothing really on tap here today.  I feel back to normal, thank goodness.  And I am happy to hear others are feeling better.

Coffee ready, I slept in this morning.  Who wants a cup.

angelface555

Good morning everyone from a hot, bright, sunny Interior with nary a cloud in sight. I'm not sure if I trust that.I had a bad night, up until two am, even with awakening at five the day before. Then I woke this morning at six am so hope to find a nap this afternoon.

Farrah has discovered this is a nice house and she might be okay here. I woke up scrunched down in the bed while she lay on my pillow purring.

I hope everyone is feeling good this morning and has the weather they need and I'll just mosey over to Hal's for a cup of good strong coffee and a pet to Lady and a look at his yard.

JoanFL

Good morning, Larry.  Weatherguessers says we're to hit the low 90s today with no rain.  Enjoy your quiet day at home.

halkel--Good morning.  Glad to hear you're feeling back to normal.  I'll have a cup of coffee, please.

Good morning, angelface.  Sorry you had a bad night and hope you can get a good nap later.

MYCHEAL  wonderful way to start Memorial Day week end.

JANE  we all have our memories of those years and all we did and collected and helped with.

DONKLAN  glad you enjoyed that link. I know I did, even with tears in my eyes.

HAL  glad you are feeling better. Weather guessers are saying Monday we will have rain. We need something to break this heat we are having now.

BEVERLY  I have seen fiddleheads at the market but never tried any.  A niece’s husband said they were good and his Mom cooked them when ever they were in season. Have a safe trip to Vermont and a good family visit.

SHIRLEY  seems like the younger generations think of Memorial Day as having a day off work and a long week end to party.  They knew none of those who served and died for all of us. They don't seem to think of the wars since much either. They just showed on local news something new at Roger Williams Park in Providence. Over 6,000 boots with flags and names for all lost in this current war. Then a special circle with desert boots for all from this state who died. I filled a huge area of the park. Said it was bigger than 2 football fields. They said they intend to do it every year. Touching to see it all.

JACKIE  I never like the overhead light on except in the kitchen. I always preferred lamps.

JOAN  oh good, cinnamon coffee cake, love them. Chuckles- I will keep my answering machine till the telemarketers stop calling. Food for Thought is a keeper. Thank you for today's goodies.

LLOYD  good morning. Love your sense of humor. I do get a chuckle from a lot of your posts.

AMY  ahh  a blue quilt, is that for me? Would fit right in here and of course blue my favorite color. Already 79° so it says on the TV. Might have a pop up shower of thunderstorm this afternoon.

JANE  how great you are feeling better and breathing better once again. Meds are great when we get the right one to help.

JACKIE  you did enough in your kitchen to deserve doing nothing the rest of the day.

LARRY  the sky here is hazy, that alone lets me know the humidity is up. Not a day for me to go outside.

HAL  so you are back to normal again?  Oh wow, do we have to get ready for your jokes again? Really I am glad you are feeling better.

PATRICIA  looks like we both had the same kind of night. I finally fell asleep after 4am  so now the morning is almost over.

Good Morning,

Finally - a sunshiny day with no storms predicted.  Since I now have flower beds (thanks to landscaper designer son's hard work),  I guess I have a Pot/Perennial garden.  Everything looks so bright and washed this morning.

Wish I could post the pictures I took yesterday of the sky to the east of me.  (I have never had good luck putting anything in Photos and wouldn't do it enough to work on learning how  (sorry  :( ).  Took them from the same spot.  The one at 6 30 p.m. was of angry dark "bubbly" clouds full of wind; the one at 7;30 was a beautiful rainbow.

I know there's a top to this work table because something has to be holding up all the "stuff" there.  Guess I'd better start the search.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere a lovely day.

Sandy

Good Morning Everyone,
from the warm and sunny,
rocky coast of Maine.

If I can't find a lamp worth
restoring at a yard sale or a thrift
shop or a Goodwill...   I will go
with out.

I despise over head lights,  except
for in  the kitchen...  Even in the
bathroom,  I only turn on an overhead
once in a while.

With a little creativity I can take a $10
thrift shop lamp and make it
awesomely beautiful. (for less then $25) ..

Oh sure... if I were a very wealthy person
then my second hand options would
cost a bit more ....
:bash:

Fortunately,  how we choose to
spend our money is very personal a
and no one else's business...

So I always try to wish everyone
has a productive "thrift shop" day..
and hope that they wish the same
for me.

I love fiddleheads.  Haven't had any for awhile but I saw a can of them in the gourmet section a while back.  First time I had them was in Montreal.  Loved them from the start.

Warm here but not hot yet and not a cloud in the sky.  It's a beautiful day.

Thanks for the Memorial Day poem, Mycheal.  Lovely.  I was 16 when WW II ended.  All three of my brothers were in the service.  2 in the Navy and one a Marine.  Hard times for everyone.  A couple of my brothers' friends did not come home and my cousin was killed in a plane crash when the transport plane with 60+ marines flew into the side of Mt. Ranier in a snow storm.  The bodies are still up there buried in a glacier high on the mountain.  Our flag is out on the front of the house and I am remembering so many things.  My husband was stationed in Japan during the Korean War and, of course, that is the one I remember most.

MYCHEAL - Indeed your post was a marvelous way for all of us to remember what MEMORIAL DAY means and recall memories.

When my son visited a few days ago, we talked a lot about the Holiday as he is an Army Chaplain preparing to be transferred to Korea on June 6th.  He mentioned that although right now he has been told that it will be for one year, he was also given a "heads up" that his service might be extended to two years since his special military background has included working with Special Forces as well as jut the regular Military Chaplain's duties.

SHIRLEY - WATCH YOUR LANGUAGE!!!!! ;)  I've always enjoyed reading your posts (regardless of the topics) as you have the verbal and written skills to allow all of us to feel like we are sitting with you face-to-face inside or by a Happy Grill near the Pool!

LLOYD - Although I am sorry that you have such pains on a regular basis, your personality is always a pleasure to witness through your posts!  Keep on being the Positive Fellow we have come to know.

I'm expecting Mohamed to call in a few minutes so will excuse myself and get ready to note his flight schedule from Egypt to the USA for a brief visit between teaching his University classes.  He's due to arrive in the USA in mid-June and return to Egypt in early July.  Many thanks to all those friends here who have kept him in Prayers RE the enormous challenges going on in Egypt.  We truly thank you all!

halkel

Well I learned something new today.  Fiddleheads, I had never heard of them nor seen them until I Googled them.  And from what I read you must be careful to get the edible kind and it is a fern.  Quite unusual in appearance.  And not sure when the picture was taken, but it is quite expensive at 16.00 - 17.00 a pound.

Memorial day is observed here in San Antonio since we have so many retired military and more than our share of military bases plus a national cemetery. I served from shortly after WWII (1947) and through Korea, Vietnam.  I never was in a war zone (combat zone) but served with many that were and when I first went in with many that were POW's.  I have nothing but admiration for our armed forces, past and present.  I feel for those serving now with the lack of leadership and lack of support because of politics. I see the new recruits at Lackland AFB, Gateway to the Air Force, and say to myself, was I really that young once. ;D
And of course mustn't forget that they ladies served and died too.  And it appears are going to be placed even more-so in harm's way.  All in the name of political correctness.

Plenty of coffee, so help yourself.  Angel your welcome to sit on my patio anytime, have some nice blooms and the grass is lush and green, for a change.
My old pup will enjoy the company. As well as myself.

Radioman34

Hal, having spent so much time in Canada, I was surprised that you were unaware of fiddleheads. We don't have a national dish per se, but if we did fiddleheads would be at the top of the list.

JoanFL

Gloria--I had never even heard of fiddleheads so had to "google".  I'd like to try them.  Sorry you had a bad night again.

Lloyd--We have sun, and at my house it is presently 90°.

Callie--I'd love to see your pictures.

Sandy--Right you are.  We all spend our $$ differently--for several different reasons.

Phyllis--Thank you to your Tom for his service--and to your brothers.

Molly--How nice that Mohamed will be able to come to the US for about a month.  I always pray for you and your family.

halkel--I see I was not the only one that had to "google" fiddleheads.

Radioman--I'll have to reserve judgment on fiddleheads until I get a chance to try them.

Fiddleheads are a new one on me too, now have to google and put myself out of my misery....

Edited, found them......" Fiddleheads have antioxidant activity, are a source of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, and are high in iron and fibre. Certain varieties of fiddleheads have been shown to be carcinogenic. (See bracken poisoning).."

Hm thought for a minute omega 3 and 6 which is what we with MS need to take on a regular basis, but the " some have been shown to be carcinogenic " has now put me off.....

Good afternoon, on another hot one. As soon as it get hot my feet swell, even though take a water pill.

Joan as always thanks for good reading and of course breakfast.

June, as I have wrote before you have such a beautiful way with words.

Mycheal thanks so much for lovely poem.  My husband was on a DE in the Pacific nearly the whole war.  Same as being on the front lines, he was in most of the invasions.  Never talked about it.  My BIL was in the invasion DE Day.  As I have wrote also before A fellow I went to school with came to live with us in Charleston and worked in the Navy Yard.  Later joined the navy when THE war started, he was on the Arizona    So yes I do remember.  I went to Calverton Nat.  on Decaration Day, (I still call it that)the first year my husband died, It was so crowded they had to close the entrance. Such a sight with all the flags waveing. It is only a few miles from my house.

Patricia, I knew Farrah would finally adopt you :)

Jenny it is so wonderful to read about Mark.  I took up golf at 62 and became a golf nut.  I even now pay extra for the golf channel.
glad also to see your foot is getting better.

Beverly, I looked up Fiddlehead ferns on Google and it was quite interesting. A rare treat, some say they tasted like asparagus. I hope the weather stays mild for you in New England.

We have another overcast morning. Weather here is quite different than Hemet, and yet I lived many years not far from here. We certainly adapt  differently to the various climates. and the older we get the longer the adaptation takes.

I had a very weird night. Woke wide awake in the wee hours of the morning and could not get back to sleep, so got up, and wrote out the sentences we were supposed to do for our next writing class. Then back to bed to sleep in patches..very strange for me. I feel extremely tired today. Must be alert though for the reception for the newlyweds that will be held in our garden area. There are hundreds of chairs out there, and some tables and there will be more tables with cloths later on.

Patricia, it didn't take Farrah long to feel "at home" with you. And you did a perfect job of letting her accustom herself to you and her place in your life. Congratulations !

I must take myself out for a walk in the morning air, or I will end up going back to sleep, I am very boring company today.

As long as we are here, let's dance.
