Lindancer, if a word is underlined in red as spelt incorrectly, once your cursor is over this word when you are preparing to type in the box...you can easily right click on your mouse to see the correct spelling, then click to change....that is the way I am doing this until spell checker takes over....

JoanFL

Linedancer--We have terribly high humidity, too.  It's too bad many parades got cancelled because of inclement weather.  I haven't heard anything about spell check, but Vanilla-Jackie gave you a tip.

Lloyd--Be VERY careful out working in the shed.  You aren't completely healed, you know.

Vanilla-Jackie--Thanks for helping Linedancer.

Still morning in my neck of the woods. Had a restless night, and don't feel too good today..another repeat of yesterday, so I am staying in and doing nothing. I wonder if the diarretic is not for me. I need salt in my system, and this medication does remove salt. Very tired and dizzy feeling. Oh, well, one day at a time.

Overcast again, but it usually clears up by afternoon. High is to be 74.

As long as we are here, let's dance.

JoanFL

June--Sorry you are still not feeling well.  Do you think you should see the doctor to find out if the diuretic is causing problems?

Junedrabek, If this is a new drug, maybe you are having a reaction to it....

"I spell like I hear, and I am deaf".  Linedancer....  I was reading along & caught that & had to stop & laugh... You slipped that in pretty slick!

"My sister-in-law  in Syracuse went and decorated Ray and Rich's graves...." Joan, I think I remember that you lived in Arkansas when he died.  That is such a strain to have to send someone "home" for burial and I always think how difficult it is for the ones left behind. My admiration for the family that does it.

My daughter-in-law's mother had her father's body brought back to the small town in Kansas so his surviving family could be at the service.  The couple had lived in the south for many years but "home" was Kansas, so quite a sacrifice for her.  My husband said many times that THIS was his home, so I kept him here in a place where  I was comfortable joining him someday.

June, I don't know anything about most meds but do remember when the lady we bought land from years ago went to the hospital because she was taking a diuretic & was extremely low of potassium or something.  Cas had to take iodine to make up for his lack of salt/iodine and also potassium.  I would think your doctor would have given you another prescription for that, though... but maybe it is working better than she expected & you are losing too much too fast.  Hope you feel better quick.

Trying to get laundry done & so far nary a load has hit the machine!  Phone keeping busy & WWII movie I had not seen before keeps stopping me as I go through the kitchen.  Last phone call I picked up here by the computer so watching as I read.  Onward, Shirley!

June Drabek

I called downstairs and spoke to a Nurse, and told her I was going to quit taking the dirrhetic because I am feeling so blah. She agreed with me, and said my Dr. was not not working today, but she would let her know tomorrow. I'm sure it is to blame for how I feel, as I really need more salt in my system. I eat plenty of bananas so the potassium should be o.k....I think it is the lack of salt. We shall see.....
As long as we are here, let's dance.

JoanFL

Shirley--You are right.  We lived in Arkansas when Ray died, but had no relatives there and both of us wanted to be buried where we grew up.

June--Glad you are going to see the doctor tomorrow about the way you feel.

Many thanks from me also for bringing me up to  date. Like others you give of your time when some of us need help.

Molly

Thanks to all Friends here for sharing many personal family experiences RE earlier times as we remember what TODAY has meant to us and our families!  I talked with CHAPS (my son David) a while ago and he sounded tired.  He's been busy working around his family home to get it all settled for his family while he is stationed in Korea for a year.  He mentioned that Church friends gathered to give him a wonderful "Send Off" and they all shared stories RE their own family experiences in past years during Military service.  I could certainly tell from his tone of voice and choice of words that he has a lot on his mind, so kept our conversation short - but "Loving."  I mentioned that several friends in these online posts sent best wishes for him and he is so tremendously grateful.  AGAIN, my own Thanks for the best wishes and prayers!

Mohamed called a second time earlier this evening and once again, he, too, extended his thanks for the prayers and best wishes sent forward for his safety and safe travel as he travels to the USA for a couple of weeks in mid-June.

Well we sure got some needed rain over night, almost 2 inches of it. At least is was cooler today with only an hour of sunshine but quiet with no AC running. I even went and sat on the porch for a couple of hours. Fresh air felt great.

JOAN  the association had a cook out Saturday but that is about it. Parking lot was almost empty today with everyone going someplace or other. I cannot go out in hot and humid days, just cannot breathe right and get dizzy if I am in the sun for more than a few minutes. Summer and I just do not get along.

JENNY  does not take much to turn me off from eating something.

SANDY  glad I am not the only one with that broccoli experience.

GLORIA de  when my in-laws had a summer home on the beach in Maine it was great. All private property and no one bothered anyone. Before my FIL sold it the people from the town close by started parking in their yards to go to the beach.  They were rude and messy. He had it and sold the place, many of the others sold too. Lot of parades and celebrations here were canceled today. Too.

JUNE  my daughter sent me an email with a picture she took this morning of the mountain at the end of the road they live on. All that showed up was the TV tower on the top of it.  All fogged in. Best to stop that new med.

AMY  I was here this morning. Gee when did I become invisible? I am OK as usual and still here in Rhode Island.

JUNEE  hi, good seeing your new avatar.

MOLLY  my thoughts are with  Chaps and his family.  Not pleasant to know you will be separated for at least a year. That is what our troops faced in WW2 when they were sent overseas. No cell phones then to keep in touch and letters took a long time to get through.

MYCHEAL  so many these days don't know the meaning of Memorial Day. Sad.

Good night everyone.

I hope it was a peaceful Memorial Day for everyone.  Last week, the bank had a trivia question on what other name was Memorial Day - I told them Decoration Day and they were all shocked because they didn't know.  I never knew it as Dec. Day either but it is trivia like that running through my head.  Don't ask me why.

Callie:  I never get around to making a data base for everything - for instance, I just read a book or watch a movie until something sounds familiar  :-X

Gloria:  Wish you could sit in on a quilting gathering.  I am a novice compared to all the others - they are so helpful and friendly.  I have been pushing myself to set aside more time for sewing and now working on a large lap quilt.  Too many projects, too little time.

Lloyd Hammond

Good Night everyone. C you all tomorrow

JaneS

Gloria, my grandparents always called it Decoration Day.  It grew out of "decorating" the graves of the soldiers who died during the Civil War.  Whole towns turned out to decorate the graves beginning right after the war ended.  It was subsequently changed to Memorial Day and the soldiers of all wars are now honored.

There were 6 of us at my daughter's today for dinner and we spent more than half an hour remembering members of our family who fought in various wars.  It was good remembering them.  And it was nice to be able to share some of my personal memories with the next two generations.

Good Night Everyfriend.  Sleep peacefully and may God bless us every one!

The other day we were talking about fiddleheads. Here is a picture of the fiddlehead pickles my granddaughter, Erin, made.

Beverly

Wishing you all a good night.

Shirley

Oh, Beverly, don't you tell your gr-daughter but since everyone has been talking about worms in veggies & even fish... my first thought when I saw the photo was "worms" :creepy:   ....and they really are beautifully canned.  I stopped at Long John Silver's tonight & when eating the fish I thought about worms someone mentioned and couldn't get the 2nd piece down.  Just now I heated it in the microwave & shared it with the cats... they got more than I cared to eat.  Awful what imagination does to appetite.  I would imagine the fiddlehead pickles would be good. Surprised I never heard of them before, growing up in the world of French cooking & the various dishes & drinks they created from just about anything that grows... wonder where the dish background comes from.  More to Google, huh?  Where did Erin get the recipe to can them?

Yep, Carol & Jane, we called it "Decoration Day", too, back in Missouri.  Decorate we did and after cleaning off the graves & mowing grass there was a picnic in the field/park at the end of the road where my gr-mother lived.

Gloria, I was also moaning about the heat & humidity this week... we will have a LONG summer, I'm afraid.

Cats are all accounted for, fed & ready for the night.  I am off to bed, got in one minute shy of 8 hours last night & after sleeping in this morning.  One more pill to take & guess I'm all cured, no headaches since taking them... 6 days.  Hope that will do me for another few years. No reaction from the Zpac .. good stuff.  My lights are dimming off & on, no storms, I just checked radar.   :yikes:

Vanilla-Jackie

Good Tuesday morning, its now 7.20am and as soon as my Riverford vegi box delivery arrives, usually on time, 7.30am...we will be off to take Benji to the vets for the day, going to be one mighty long day, for both of us.....

Good Tuesday morning, Everyfriend, on this last day of May.   There's omelets to accompany your coffee or tea. I wish everyone a great day!!

CHUCKLES

Prayer

They walked in tandem, each of the ninety-three students filing into the already crowded auditorium.

With rich maroon gowns flowing and the traditional caps, they looked almost as grown up as they felt.

Dads swallowed hard behind broad smiles, and moms freely brushed away tears.

This class would not pray during the commencements ----- not by choice, but because of a recent court ruling prohibiting it.

The principal and several students were careful to stay within the guidelines allowed by the ruling.

They gave inspirational and challenging speeches, but no one mentioned divine guidance and no one asked for blessings on the graduates or their families.

The speeches were nice, but they were routine... ....until the final speech received a standing ovation.

A solitary student walked proudly to the microphone.

He stood still and silent for just a moment, and then, it happened.

All 92 students, every single one of them, suddenly SNEEZED!!!!

The student on stage simply looked at the audience and said, "GOD BLESS YOU, each and every one of you!"

And he walked off stage...

The audience exploded into applause.

The graduating class had found a unique way to invoke God's blessing on their future with or without the court's approval!

Isn't this a wonderful story? Pass it on to all your friends......... and GOD BLESS YOU!!!!

Food For Thought

I Thought I was a Christian
(By Marty Kasza)

You'd think that after years of attending church, Sunday school, vacation Bible school, church camp or youth group, someone would be a 'Christian'. But that's not always so. At least, that's not the way it happened with me. I became a Christian when I was 18 and a month away from leaving for my first year of college.

A pastor from the new church my family was attending stopped by our house and went through a small tract called "Steps to Peace With God." My 11-year-old sister and I confessed our sinfulness and professed our faith in Jesus that day, asking Him to be our Savior. But prior to that moment, I would have said that I was a Christian if someone had asked. I mean, people who believe in God and believe in Jesus are Christians, right? Christians go to church. Christians serve in the church. I did all of these things. So why weren't they enough to make me a Christian?

Looking back, I can't believe I missed the truth. My mother taught me about the Lord, and I even memorized the first part of John 3 for an Easter sunrise service when I was in high school - a good presentation of the gospel if I've ever heard one. I knew Jesus was born to a virgin, lived a perfect life and was crucified and resurrected. I knew about Him, but I didn't know Him personally.

While I had the truth in my mind, it didn't click in my heart until someone explained sin, how it had separated me from God and how my relationship with Him could be restored only through belief in Jesus and acceptance of Him as my Lord and Savior. You see, a Christian does believe in Jesus, attend church and serve others, but she does it because of a love for her Lord, not because of a self-imposed requirement to be a good person. My life has changed in the years since I became a Christian. Instead of simply going to church and being pleased with my contributions there, I have a real, growing relationship with Jesus. I have a desire to spend time with Him in prayer and Bible study. I like to serve because I hope to make Him known to others - people who may think they know what it means to be a Christian, but who haven't had a heart-encounter with the living God.

My 18 years of going to church and church-related events prior to accepting Jesus as my Savior weren't a waste. They were foundational for who I am today. They prepared me for the moment when I truly understood the gospel. The people who contributed to my first years of life demonstrated Christ to me so I'd be ready to do the same for others.

So I've gotta ask. Are you a Christian? Has the meaning of the gospel really clicked in your heart, mind and spirit? Are you growing in your relationship with Jesus? Are you going to church because you want to worship God, enjoy fellowship with other believers and serve as Christ served? I hope so!

But if you're not, if you're like I was, a church-participator who didn't have a personal relationship with Jesus, now's your time to make a change and relinquish yourself to your Creator. Now's your time to really start living! God's grace and forgiveness are available to cover all your sins. He has a desire to adopt you into His family. Won't you ask Jesus to forgive you and to become Lord of your life today?

By making Jesus the absolute Lord of your life, you won't be zapped into an angelic being. You'll probably still make mistakes from time to time. But when you do, go to Christ with a repentant heart (being genuinely and humbly sorry for what you did with no plans to do it again), accept the forgiveness He died to give you, and keep growing in Him. Jesus loves you, and He is an accepting Savior who holds open arms to you.

"But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions - it is by grace you have been saved" (Ephesians 2:4).

One more time... I've gotta ask: Do you know a lot about Jesus? Or do you actually know Him personally? If you've assumed you're a Christian, and you're really not, you can be right now!

Thought of the Day

“It seems to me that there should be a connection between what we know and what we do! Unfortunately, some of the most difficult Christians to deal with are those who like to argue Scripture but their life does not reflect either an understanding of Scripture nor a practice of it!"

Almost 9.45am, dropped Benji off at the vets ok, 8.am as told....sat in Vet consulting room while he asked a few questions, we reminded him that 6 days ago we were in there as Benji had a tick near his eye taken out...Vet same one who is doing the opp-surgery will also take a sample of lump that's if he can find it...we have also given vet permission ( at an added fee ) to do a blood test, recommended on older dogs, and a free heart check up before going ahead....Told he will clean his teeth, sort his gum infection, he may lose a tooth, or teeth.....told to ring around 1pm to check on him, should be able to collect him around 4'ish....

Just as I was typing this, phone rang an hour later than vet said, after doing Benji's pre opp assessment and just explained that his kidney level and function has dropped a little since last time vet done a check, three weeks ago so vet said it is still going ahead but will have to put Benji on a fluids drip, then to monitor his kidneys in a couple of weeks time....Vet is putting this down to maybe his age, although he agreed when I asked if it could be due to something new underlying....I am a natural worrier...I am praying to God to look after him today....

Joan,

JaneS

Jackie, I also pray that Benji will come through this procedure safely.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Temperature here has dropped to the low 60s overnight.  It was very pleasant sleeping with the windows open. It is only to go to the low 80s for the day.  Not too bad for the last day of May.

Back when I was in elementary and middle school, all the school children marched in the Mamorial Day parade carring bouquets of flowers.  The parade ended at the local cemetery and we had been instructed to place our flowers on a grave that had a flag.  The flags had previously been placed by the members of the local chapter of the VFW.  I thought it was a neat tradition and my best friend and I always went to the far end of the cemetery to find a veteran who might not have been remembered.

I hope you all have a lovely day.  I'll be greeting my public behind the counter at WM today.

Good morning everyone.

Going to be another hot one here.We did ask for warmer weather and now we have it so I won't complain.

Need to do "stuff"round he house today. I see the garden is coming up and so are the weeds so they need to be taken care of.

Jackie, I know how one will worry when their furbaby is at the vets. Big girl had two teeth removed when she was 10 . Prayers going Benjis way that all will be well.

Jane, have a great day at work.

Gloria, I must have missed your earlier post.

Joan, thank you for breakfast.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Vanilla-Jackie

Thank you both Jane S and Amy, but somewhere along the line myself and vet has been getting somewhat confused, when I said this has changed over the last three weeks as....If I now remember no blood test ( kidneys ) was done then, only annual vaccination - checkup which included a heart check-up which told was absolutely fine...so not sure what vet was referring to as the last time Benji had a blood test for his kidneys....The only time we can think of was when Benji lost half of one of his ears a few years ago due to gypsy's that had buried shards of glass in the Glebe....maybe today's vet was going by that record, of course if he was, Benji was a few years younger....As for me, think over the phone I was getting kindof confused between three weeks ago his heart test....but vet was definite about his kidney function - numbers being lower than what he would have liked them to be....Its now 12 noon, told to phone around 1.pm, I guess the procedure is going on now as I type....

Gloria

Good morning everyone, rained overnight again but not too much this time. Going to be another hot humid one according to the current weather report.

CAROL  I tried making a quilt years ago and it was a disaster. Did better with making clothes, crocheted afghans and knitted sweaters. Now it is PSP on the computer. Those folks in those groups are all helpful. Joan was wonderful with PSP  before she had to fight for her life.

JANE  I grew up calling it Decoration day as that is what my parents called it. I still have trouble with Veterans day instead of Armistice day and President's day instead of Washington's or Lincoln's birthdays like when I was young. My sons seem to care more about today than those who went before. My daughter is the one who likes to know about my family. They knew my in-laws more because we lived closer to them.

BEVERLY  wish I had asked my niece's husband more about those fiddleheads. They look good in those canning jars.

SHIRLEY  like you I dread this coming summer and hope this AC does it's job. I still think window AC's work better than the portable ones. The layout of this apartment does not get the colder air to get to the bedroom. If I put the AC in there this living room would be too hot and this is where I spend most of my time. Glad your headaches are gone.

JOAN  an omelet will be good this morning, I woke hungry but need my coffee first. Smart graduating class with the last student to speak. Food for Thought is one to think about. Today's quote is so true. Thank you for today's goodies.

JUNEE  always good to know some troops are going home at last. Those who were “missing” always make families worry and wonder.

JACKIE  we do worry about our pets. I know when my DIL called me to tell me that she had their dog put to sleep I cried every time I thought about her. I always called her my shadow because when I was there she ways always next to me.

JANE  it is already 70° here so did not cool much. Have a good day at WM.

AMY  hope you do not have much stuff to do today.

junee--Your new avatar is lovely.

Good morning, Vanilla-Jackie.  I'll say a prayer that all goes well with Benji today.

Janie--Good morning.  That ceremony you participated in when a school child--marching in the parade with bouquets and then placing them was something you'll never forget.

Amy--Good morning.  Is "stuff" like w---? :)

Good morning, Gloria.  It's too bad you don't have central a/c there.  I am another who failed "Quilts 101" but did do well with sewing, knitting, crocheting and other needlework.

Click for Melbourne, Florida Forecast

JaneS

I also failed Quilting 101.  A friend and I went to a class taught at the high school by the local Farm and Home representative.  Joyce still quilts and I never made it.  However, I did sew and knit.  I failed crocheting, too.  And I have to admit that I love cooking and I'm pretty good at it!

Joanie, that is a good memory of school children being a part of all the Memorial Day activities.  I even remember that most years, my flowers were peonies because that's what was blooming at that time of the year.

Better get off this thing and go get dressed. I have an errand to do on the way to work.  Have a lovely day everyone!
