Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

Good Morning Everyone!

Well, a warm sunshiny day out and the wife just left headed to the dentist.  She has a tooth that is hurting.  She has had a bad year with her teeth.  Matter of fact she has used all her benefits up for the year so this visit is out of pocket.

Larry, interesting your friend thinks it was the Mafia.  And from what I have read the Mafia was upset with the Kennedy's because they delivered on the election and felt like they were not getting the pay back promised by Joe.  I remember the killing well, I was in Turkey a the time and one of our friends woke us with news in the wee hours of the morning and I turned on Voice of America, only news we could get, but they covered it completely.

Got the following email this morning and thought you all would appreciate it.  a little humor is always welcome, except there may be a grain of truth in some of this......... ;)

Oldie thoughts for fellow seniors

1. My goal for 2016 was to lose 10 pounds. Only 15 to go.

2. I ate salad for dinner. Mostly croutons & tomatoes. Really just one big round crouton covered with tomato sauce. And cheese. FINE, it was a pizza. I ate a pizza for dinner.

3. How to  prepare Tofu:
    a.  Throw it in the trash.
    b.  Grill some meat.

4. I just did a week's worth of cardio after walking into a spider web.

5. I don't mean to brag, but I finished my 14-day diet food in 3 hours and 20 minutes.

6. A recent study has found women who carry a little extra weight live longer than men who mention it.

7. Kids today don't know how easy they have it. When I was young, I had to walk 9 feet through shag carpet to change the TV channel.

8. Senility has been a smooth transition for me.

9. Remember back when we were kids and every time it was below zero out they closed school? Me neither.

10. I may not be that funny or athletic or good looking or smart or talented... I forgot where I was going with this.

11. I love being over 60. I learn something new every day and forget 5 others.

12. A thief broke into my house last night. He started searching for money so I woke up and searched with him.

13. I think I'll just put an "Out of Order" sticker on my forehead and call it a day.

14. November 6, 2016 will be the end of Daylight Savings Time. Hope you don't forget to set your bathroom scale back 10 pounds on Saturday night.

15. Just remember, once you're over the hill you begin to pick up speed.

I think number 15 is the most true.

Have a great morning.

Good Morning dear Hearts and Gentle People..that's a song. :smitten:

I woke up with pains in my left shoulder, pondered a bit over what it could be, then decided it wasn't serious enough to worry about. A few minutes later..about six a.m. a gentle knock came on my door. My doctor told me yesterday she was ordering a blood test as my sodium count was down last time, so here was the vampire all set with her needle. She was quick and gentle, and soon on her way to the next victim. I lay and luxuriated over the life of a retiree at Rowntree Gardens and thanked God. Had a quick shower, then reheated some of yesterdays coffee and here I am. Now I have got to get off the computer and prepare for Gary's Bible Class that is due In an hour. See you later kids.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Again I was out much longer than I expected to be.  I ate breakfast out.  That's getting to be a habit.

Amy hasn't been here today.  I hope things are OK with her and her husband.

Good afternoon, sunny, but I am writing again very windy and cool.

Joan, good to see you are getting out, and having breakfast.

Larry, when I moved in here everyone had and umbrella cloth line, that is the only kind allowed.   I have worry beads, that i bought in Turkey, you see people setting around with the worry beads in there hands. I also brought home bells with the evil eyes. People hang them on their doors. I have never hung mine.

Hal, i enjoyed reading your post, still LOL

HAL, my favorite is #3 and truly dislike tofu!

LARRY, there are to be 7 sessions of our Faith and Fear gatherings.  2 are at my Episcopal church, one at an Episcopal Church in a nearby town, 2 at the Unitarian Church, one at the American National Catholic Church, and one at Beth El Synagogue.  There are participants from many religions including some muslims, quakers, the above mentioned, and some that I did not hear they say.  When I decided to go, I thought I'd be there as a listener and learner only but participation came naturally.  And I already learned some things about myself.

And now, I think I'll turn on the TV and see if there is anything worth watching through my eyelids while I rest my eyes a bit. Please continue doing what you've been doing and don't forget to report it.  I might want to try it out.

Linedancer--It is very windy here, too.  I once had some worry beads but never bells with evil eyes.

Janie--I am with you in the dislike of tofu.  I think your Faith and Fear gatherings sound very interesting.  I flopped on the couch and tried to get a nap, but sleep eluded me.  At least I rested for 30 min.

Still no Amy.  I am worried about them.

Angel.  Now will you be back sleeping in your bedroom tonight. Have they not said anything about the stuff they sprayed with?. I would be a mess. Least little thing in a spray seems to get to me. Even hair spray.  Are you eating someplace else?

We are really having  a bad storm here at the Moment.  Went to a funeral at 1:30 today. Just managed to get home before it really got bad. Wasn't a big one as he was cremated and just a small service. Glad it wasn't one where I had to go to a Crematory. Seems the ones I have to attend always fall in the Winter when it is snowing, really cold. Always the saddest ones. But more and more seem to be cremations now.

Hal, re: Amy, you are right , we have to stay positive. And sharing our concerns in prayer sure helps to be positive.

Gary did a wonderful job of preaching the bible this morning. We are studying the book of Daniel, and he sure brings the characters to life, and is able to relate happenings from way back then to our lives today..even the politicians.

I got my list of people to visit at the Care facility, but was too tired to carry through with it today. Had a long lunch downstairs, then home to take a long nap. Got a call to pick up my prescriptions downstairs. Will start my nitroglycerine patch tomorrow. Also a new prescription for allergies. And so it goes. Time to think of something for supper now.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

angelface555

Jeanne, they will spray each floor 4 times in total so I remain on the couch and my items bagged, boxed or crated for the remainder if the month. They are now starting on the third floor. Other than a strong chemical order in the entire floor, I haven't noticed anything. Aerosols don't bother me as it is food chemicals that upset and close down my system.

Good Night Everyfriend!  May God bless us, every one!

Amy has gone AWOL for a day before, I am sure she will show herself today with apologies and a simple explanation for making some people worry....but yes, if she doesn't show today, our Joan maybe right to be concerned...

Good morning, it is now 5.30, been up some 30 - 45 mins already...

Shirley

I'm still up, was ironing some COOLER clothes to wear for the 80+ weather this last week of Oct.  I wonder if anyone has done an account of all the records broken with this crazy weather in 2016.....

Good night, June, I'll turn out the lights.  Shall we tell Amy she is grounded for not checking in.... you think they are out parked on Lover's Lane?  God Bless, Amy, an extra prayer for the two of you tonight.

Hugs all around..... Shirley

Oops, good night, Jackie.... I'm falling asleep in my chair & still need to see if the cats want a midnight snack.

SHIRLEY....
...a good morning and a goodnight to you, also to JENNY, if she shows...sleep well....

Food For Thought

The Lord Leads
by Denny Meyer

Many years ago I was blessed when someone gave me a little booklet entitled "The Tyranny of the Urgent". The premise of the book was that we need to learn to recognize the difference between that which is "urgent" and that which is "important".

The enemy likes to surround us with all sorts of urgent things to do. Many of these urgencies will even seem as if they are of the Kingdom. But there is only one thing that is important ---- sitting at the feet of our Lord.

Are you feeling driven to do something? Be careful. THE LORD LEADS, the devil drives.

Having owned a sheep ranch these past few years, I have had the opportunity to see this in practice. It is much easier and peaceful to have the flock follow you to a new pasture then it is to try to drive them there.

Not long ago I read an account of a tourist group in Israel. The tour guide, as their bus was rolling, told about the wonderful shepherds they have in Israel. He told how well they treat their flocks and the devotion of the flock to the master.

Not long after, as the bus was rolling again, they saw a man driving and beating a flock near the road. When asked about this scene the guide responded, "Oh, that is not the shepherd, that is the butcher."

If you honestly evaluate your ministry, are you driven to make it happen or is the Lord your shepherd and leading you where you belong?

Don't let the urgent swallow up the important!

What is important in my life? Getting before the Father in prayer, for when I work, I work, but when I pray, God works.

PRAYER: Father, life gets overwhelming at times and what I need to do then is just "stop" and wait on You. Please help me to know when this is so. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!

Luke 6:12 says: "Jesus went off to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God." NIV

Thought of the Day

"Someone asked me recently if I didn't think God was unfair, allowing me to have Parkinson's and other medical problems when I have tried to serve Him faithfully. I replied that I did not see it that way at all. Suffering is part of the human condition, and it comes to us all. The key is how we react to it, either turning away from God in anger and bitterness or growing closer to Him in trust and confidence."

- Billy Graham

Gloria

Good morning everyone, I think I was asleep before 9 last night and here I am at 3 AM again. I did something different for me. Have any of you heard of Schwan? It is a food delivery service. They had all kind of frozen food, even meals. And NO preservatives.  Now I have a freezer full of things that look good. Will have at least one later today.  Know I have not been eating right because I cannot cook much any more.

JOAN  with this sudden freezing temperatures I sure do not want to be cold so geemogotchees were necessary yesterday and will be today, too.

JANE  it is 29° here now according to my PC. Sure glad I no longer have to go out early in the morning anymore. All those winters of starting the car to get it warm or clearing snow/ice off of it before heading to work. I love that line. I would like to add that to my prayers, too. The rock sounds like a worry stone.

LLOYD  seems no matter how hard we work and how careful we spend what we make there is never enough for anything we want.

JACKIE  I remember you talking about the young man who was mugged. Glad he is doing good now.

LARRY  I have had 2 good doctors over the years, one local in this town and long gone and the other sold hi practice and went to work for Blue Cross. He was the best, too. Hope this new one will be OK. Several in this building go to here and have heard others say she is great and caring. The one I just left at least never double booked. No matter what time my appointment I was never kept waiting and he would answer questions but he never helped. Always said “I will look into it.” and that was the end of it. I can imagine how Pat feels about not standing for long, I have not been able to do that for more than a year now. Where I was living my son had a pulley line in the back and I used to love hanging my clothes out.

HAL  we had a sunny day yesterday but far from being warm. Love your post. #9 I don't remember having snow days when I was a kid either. Now 3 inches of snow and they cancel school for the day.

JUNE  wow the vampire goes to you, how nice that is. You do not have to go there and maybe wait at least half an hour for your turn and by then you are starving.

JOAN  breakfast is the meal I love to have out.

GLORIA de  the wind is still pretty strong here, been that way since last Friday.

JANE  Faith and Fear sounds like a wonderful thing. My daughter tried getting her family and me to eat Tofu, no one would eat it, even her.

SHIRLEY  crazy all over. Last week we broke a record for the warmest October day and this week it is below freezing.

JOAN  waffles are a favorite of mine so will enjoy your breakfast choice today. Like the puns. Just copied The Lord Leads. Wonderful Billy Graham quote. Thank you for all today's goodies.

Like the rest of you I am worried about Amy, too.

Good Morning Everyfriend!

Oh Amy!  As glad as I am to see you back among us, I'm so sorry that your news is not good!  I will add more specific prayers for your hubby and ask God to keep him in His constant care.

I'm going to spend the day "putzing"!  Attention Joanie!  That word does not mean w**k so no demerits!  It just means attending to things that have been neglected and attending to them in an offhand manner.  In other words, if I decided to neglect them once more, so be it!  The only thing I'm obligated to do is pick up TLH after school and go to the library.  And that's FUN!

Have a lovely day, Everyfriend.  Do what gives you pleasure!

Good morning, Gloria.  I've heard of Schwan, but don't personally know anyone who buys from them.  I see their truck in here making deliveries.  I am sure you're glad you have those geemogotchees.  Thank you for the accolades about the items I posted.

Lloyd--Good morning.  I know you will be glad when that laundry room is totally completed.

Good morning, Amy.  I am sorry your news was not good.  I will pray that the chemo takes care of the cancer.  I am proof it works.  I had chemo and radiation for my lung cancer, and I have been "clean" now for 7 years.

Vanilla-Jackie--Good morning.  I often have coffee in the middle of the night.  You are right.  Parkinsons is another nasty disease.

Good morning, Janie.  OK-- will take your word for it that "putzing" is not w---.:)  Enjoy your time with TLH.

Good morning, Joan and all the friends.  The waffles and sausage sounds good.   Very hearty and tasty breakfast.

Gloria, I have been getting food from Schwans for almost a year now.  They started coming to our place and quite a few people started buying from them.  The amount of people has dropped off a little, but there are still a few who participate.

I don't buy a lot from them, as I don't have a lot of room in my freezer. I like their chicken pot pies, and the big black Bing cherries, the corn dogs  are a good quick  lunch, and I had their Tilapia fillets.  And, I have been getting the little pints of Jack Nickalas ice cream. They do not take up a lot of room. So far, I have been very happy with the things I have bought.   I hope you will be pleased with the items you bought.

Amy, sorry the news for your husband wasn't what you were looking for, and will keep both of you in my thoughts and prayers.  Glad it is in the early stages.  So many good treatments are available today.

Jackie, hope you are getting along better.  I know you are very concerned about your little doggie.

Jane, I will be doing just about the same things that you will be doing.  I have a bunch of papers that I need to go through and also get started on writing checks for the new month's bills.  That month sure comes around quick.  I just had to sign my lease for the coming year and my rent goes up a little bit each year, so I have to remember that.

It is a dark, dreary, misty morning here in Central Maryland.  Not quite as cold as yesterday morning, when it was down in the low 30's. I did push my thermostat up a little bit just to take the chill off.  Supposed to be a nice week end with temperatures warming up to the mid-60's.  Which will be nice !

Have a great day.

Joy

Good MOrning Everyone!

Amy, such bad news. But the good news, they do have treatments now that do cure and one thing you can count on, you have our prayers.
I thought you were going to get that undercoating a couple of days ago.  I didn't even know they still did undercoating.  But what do I know.

Seems we are getting a bunch of night owls in this group.  I am up so many times during the night that I wouldn't know what it is like to sleep a full night.

I need to get a move on.  Bible study and a snack this morning and the wife is still a little under the weather.  She wasn't feeling good at all last night.

My Gr. Grandson put another rock in his nose, he is autistic and his father read the riot act to the day care about the small pebbles they have that are accessible to the kids.   At any rate this time Dad was able to remove it, no doctor needed.

Thanks Joanie for the usual great start of my day.

larryhanna

Hi everyone on an overcast morning but no rain predicted.  I have a very light day planned today with only a quick stop at the Credit Union to cash a check and then will pick up my friend and we will go to coffee.  I won't be returning back downtown to attend the normal Wisdom group as the pastor is having some shoulder surgery this morning.  I have a couple of tasks I plan on doing in the kitchen and hopefully can take the rest of the day quietly and restfully.  Yesterday was as busy as I want.  We did take Scott out to a nice lunch, which we all enjoyed and then I did go to the Wednesday night dinner but ate very lightly as had finished a big lunch no too many hours before.

Hal, my neighbor brought over the book he mentioned for me to look at and I started reading it.  It is a very big book and I have ordered my own copy but it won't be here for a few days so will get started on the loaned copy.  I liked the humor you shared.

JaneS, thanks for the further information on your Faith and Fear gatherings.  I also don't care for tofu.

June, I did a correspondence Bible study on the book of Daniel several years ago and found it very interesting.  It sounds like you are all set to start your visits with other there when you feel up to it.

Joan, another winner with the "Food for Thought" today.  I have copied it and will put it in my Devotional materials folder to use probably the next time I bring a devotion to our Sunday School class.

Gloria, we have used Schwan foods in the past but had basically forgotten about them.  We always found the quality good and liked what we bought.  My folks also used them as they would deliver to the farm.  They have very good ice cream but don't ask me how I know that!  :)  I know I am going to have to help Pat more in the kitchen to avoid her having to stand too long as it brings on her severe pain.  I get tired but at least I don't generally ache from the standing.  She is starting to try to do a few things in the kitchen and that is a help.

Lloyd, the laundry room sounds like a nice addition to your home.  Having the laundry on the same floor as the living area is very helpful.

Amy, I join the others in hoping the chemo will assure that there is no spread of the problem and that the surgery got all of the bad cells.  Early detection is so important.  He will be in my prayers over these next months as he takes the treatments.  I feel that keeping a positive attitude during times like this is so important.

JaneS, I guess what I plan to do today falls in that category of "putzing".  I haven't heard that word for a long time.  Enjoy the library with TLH.

Joy, we have the same problem with limited storage for frozen items in our refrigerator freezer.
