Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

angelface--I just can't imagine taking something that doesn't belong to me, but guess many don't operate that way.  My sister had many, many Hummels.  When she sold her house two years ago and moved to Independent Living she sold them all since none of her children/grandchildren wanted them.

Joan, it is sometimes sad here. I gave away several palms and other large plants when I received Farrah as she could and did jump anywhere. Many of my plants were poisonous, but as my other cat couldn't jump, I had no issues. The plants were set out on the first floor in the lobby and nooks and crannies by the manager and staff. Within a week, all but my ponytail palm had vanished, and two plants were large, over five foot tall.

Soon the note went up on the glassed-in bulletin board, and people started talking. Two mornings later, all the plants were stacked in front of the manager's door. Since the security office is open all night, that must have been a humiliating return.

I also mislaid a nice fountain pen downstairs in the mailroom. Within the hour, a knock on the door and there was staff with my pen. Having the public cameras is a blessing for me and others here.

This week while they are replacing and readjusting the hallways lights and HVAC systems, they are also mounting carbon dioxide filters on the outside light casings every few feet for winter. This summer, they painted and recarpeted the public areas which was nice after living in so many places where that wasn't a priority.

angelface--too bad people have to be. Threatened/humiliated to return stolen items.

It is sad, but some never learned consequences when young.

I'm home!  My son called right before I left for the bank and said that Kiran was still sleeping and because last night wasn't a school night, she'd been up pretty late.  He wanted to know if I could come there and stay until she got up instead of picking her up at the store.  I went early to the bank for my appt and he waited until I got there.  She didn't get up until almost 11 and then we played a couple of games and she went and got dressed and we come home to let the doggies out and then had lunch at MickieD's.  I dropped her off at a friend's house for the afternoon.  And that's been my day so far.

I have 2 of the Willow Tree figurines also.  They were given to me for Christmas by a very dear friend!  I have the Friendship Angel and the Kitchen Angel.  The Friendship Angel sits in my living room where I can see it from many angles and the Kitchen Angel watches over my kitchen.  I love them both because they are lovely but even more because I love the FRIEND who gave them to me.

angelface--Thanks for the link and the last of your Aviary photos.

Janie--Your day didn't go exactly as originally planned, but I am sure you enjoyed what time you did have with Kiran.  I feel like you do about the Willow figurines that I've been gifted with.  I love them and especially love those who gave them to me.

JaneS

I'll say a prayer for Benji and for you, too, Jackie and for R.  You will miss him but you'll see him again at Rainbow Bridge.

I'm sure you do know what I mean about loving the figurines and the giver of them even more, Joanie!

Jackie, I am so sorry! I know what Benji meant to you and Richard. I still remember some of my cats from twenty and more years ago as if it was yesterday. I am sorry.

Hugs Jackie and Richard, not an easy thing to do but one that must be done...as Jane said he will be waiting by the Rainbow Bridge for you...

Shirley

I am so sorry, Jackie & Richard.... I'm sure your hearts are breaking ... but he isn't suffering now so give yourselves a chance to think back over his life and know he was a lucky pup to have people love him and care for him like you did.  Hugs to you and prayers that this brings peace to your lives.

Hal, got it bookmarked & will be looking out with a camera on a tripod.  Thanks!

CallieOK

Jackie,  I'm so sorry to learn about Benjie.  Gentle hugs to you.

My Manger Scene belonged to my grandmother and some of the pieces may go back farther than that. The set looks its age but I wouldn't change it for the world.
One year, younger son decided that the cow should go on top of the manger.  His older brother would come along and huffily put it back where he thought it should be.  Younger one would wait a bit and quietly put it back on top.  This went on for the entire Christmas season.  Never did find out what younger son was thinking of in the first place.

Not much going on around my house this week.

Yesterday was so warm and humid that I was really dragging my heels. Then there was a nice rain during the night and today really feels like a Fall Day.

I did manage to stay awake long enough to see the exciting end of the World Series.  Really didn't have a preference - would have been happy for either team to break their long drought.  Congratulations, Cubs!

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere a pleasant evening.

JoanFL

halkel--Thanks for the link.

Hi Shirley.

Callie--I have an old, tattered manger and Nativity that my twin brother gave to use the very first Christmas we were married.  I cherish it and put that out, too.

JaneS

My sister inherited the manger scene that I remember from my growing years.  I think her daughter uses it at her house now because Margie doesn't do a lot of decorating and Suzi's kids always loved helping to set it up....they still do.  Can't say that my kids wouldn't have enjoyed it as much but I'm glad it's still in the family.

I took a ceramics class early in my marriage and the first thing I made was a nativity set.  I was still using it up to 2 years ago but my daughter has it now and she cherishes it.  I just have a nativity family that I still put out...and sometimes it's still out in July.  That way, I know where it is when it's time for it the next year.

Time to go feed the doggies....and me!  Enjoy your evening Everyfriend.

Jackie - I am so sorry about Benji. You gave him the happiest and best life possible. As you said, he is at peace now with no pain. Hugs!!

JeanneP

Don.  Now I wonder if the reason they are trying to cut back on the Christmas decorations also is because even the people who enjoy Christmas. Santa, Shopping. Decorating etc.  are now getting a little tired of watching it get started even before Halloween. Lots of the big stores look already like what it use to take until after Thanksgiving. Think how it has changed for the kids. Seeing all this going on so early. Must feel like for ever to them for Santa to get to them.

I say cut back on the Commercial things that  they are doing which has spoiled the Christmas Season. Why even the Muslems may get to like the joy a little. After all very little religion seems to be attached to it now. Not able to do anything Christmas like  in the Schools. I use to love the School Christmas Plays why mine were young.

Around here it has been a few years since I have seen any of the churches putting things on their Lawns. Now ringing of bells on Christmas Eve.  To much on TV wanting to collect and do so much for the poorer families.  One is trying to collect so can give a child $250 to be able to buy for his family. Already  Police, Firemen  I know wanting to collect all  the money they can. I know one family ( Not that poor) who got 5 Full Turkey full Dinners just from lining up last year. No body is checked anymore. I remember when all that was done in the churches.
Look back on the Christmas times or years back. I think they were nicer times.

I look to be hearing Christmas music being played around the big stores with their Big Christmas Displays and Toy Dept. If they do have a Santa he will be in there around Thankgiving.
I would like to see you being him around Christmas time.  You were a perfect one.

CHUCKLES

Lighthouses

I live in Texas. I have two friends that are blonde and sisters. One day, they approached me and asked where the lighthouses were.

When I tried to probe a little bit, I was told, "Yeah, they're good paying jobs and have lots of ads in the paper, but we don't know where the lighthouses are to apply."

I told them, "There are no lighthouses in Texas. Let me see that newspaper."

Sure enough, there were ads for... "Light Housekeeping needed. Apply in person."

The Harvest of the Earth

By Joel Vande Werken
Scripture Reading: Revelation 14:14-20

Take your sickle and reap, because the time to reap has come, for the harvest of the earth is ripe.
Revelation 14:15
Though the harvest represents the climax of a season’s labor, it can also be a messy business. Grain must be separated from the stalks on which it grows. Fruit is gathered, washed, and separatedâ€"and to make juice for human consumption it is pressed and strained, and the peels and seeds are cast aside.
The Bible often uses the harvest as an image of God’s judgment on both God’s people and his ene¬mies. At the end of time, God will gather up our life’s work and measure its eternal value. Judgment may be favorable, for a crop worth preserving. Or it may involve destruction.
Judgment does not sit easily with us today because we ¬often operate with an “I’m OK, you’re OK” mentality. But the Bible reminds us that God is a holy God and that evil has no place in his presence. Does the abuse, violence, manipulation, and hurt in the world trouble you? There will come a time when all that has been inflicted on usâ€"and what we inflict on othersâ€"will be strained and cast out of God’s presence. Only the good will remain.
All of us deserve judgment. But those who trust in Jesus have the assurance that he has already endured the “winepress of God’s wrath” for them.
Praise God for this harvest hope, which is the only hope to which we can cling.
Righteous and just God, we know that judgment is a serious thing, because sin is serious. Thank you for the work of Jesus, which gives us a firm place to stand. We pray in his name. Amen.
