Good Sunday morning, Everyfriend.  There's  DDs to go with your coffee or tea.  Have a blessed Sunday.

Thanks to Phyllis for her lovely “Autumn Memories” graphic creation which we are using this week.

- "Dreamt" is the only English word that ends in the letters "mt".

- The microwave was invented after a researcher walked by a radar tube and a chocolate bar melted in his pocket.

- There are 293 ways to make change for a dollar.

- There are only four words in the English language which end in "-dous": tremendous, horrendous, stupendous and hazardous.

Food For Thought

Trying to Please Everyone
(By Alan Smith)

The story is told of a man and his grandson traveling down the road, walking and leading a donkey. They met a man who said, "How foolish for you to be walking. One of you should be riding the donkey." So the man put his grandson on the animal.

The next traveler they met frowned and said, "How dreadful for a strong boy to be riding while an old man walks." So the boy climbed off the donkey and his grandfather climbed on.

The next person they met said, "I just can't believe a grown man would ride and make a little boy walk." So the man pulled the boy up and they rode the donkey together. That is, until they met another man who said, "I never saw anything so cruel in all my life -- two human beings riding on one poor defenseless donkey!"

Down the road a ways, they met a couple of men. After they passed, one of the men turned to the other and said, "Did you ever before see two fools carrying a donkey?"

The point is: You can't please everyone! And it can be very frustrating to even try to do so because it's impossible. The truth of the matter is, even if we could please everyone, we shouldn't. In fact, trying to please others can [easily] distract from the One we should be pleasing, if we're not careful.

Though Paul was certainly mindful of the feelings of others, he wrote: "Am I now trying to win the approval of men, or of God? Or am I trying to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ." (Galatians 1:10, NIV)

Living our lives so as to receive the praise of people around us will only get us into trouble. I think of the chief rulers who "believed in Him [Jesus], but because of the Pharisees they did not confess Him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue; for they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God." (John 12:42-43). When we become attached to public opinion and pleasing others around us, we will eventually end up denying God.

Have you found lately that everyone isn't pleased with your decisions? Don't lose any sleep over it, as long as you're seeking to please the only ONE that really matters!

Good Morning Everyfriend!  We have a brief respite from the cold this week.  Today it will be in the low 60s and by Wednesday, we will have temps in the low 70s.  However, we will have rain most of the afternoon and evening today.

I'll be off to church in a bit.  It's my turn to read the Old Testament lesson today.  I traded with a friend who was to be out of town today.  He'll read for me next week.  After church, I'm going to stop by the Farmer's Market and get a couple things I need.

I hope you all have a great day doing exactly what you feel like doing.  This is the day which the Lord hath made.  Rejoice and be glad in it!

Good morning, Janie.  It'd be nice if you could send some of that rain this way.  I do thank the Lord for each day.

Amy--Good morning.  To me 37° is COLD.  Enjoy your day of rest.

Good Sunday morning, Joan and all the Sunday morning Friends.

Another beautiful  "spring-like" day here in Central Maryland.  Some areas are to be in the upper 70's today. Wish it would last,  but I am sure  it won't.

Joan,  thanks for the DD's this morning.   I will have one....... any kind with chocolate on it. LOL

Hal,  back to your question you asked on Sat.   The Schwans pot pies are just an individual serving,. You get 4 pot pies in the box, and I think they are $9.99.  Just about the same price as the grocery stores.  Schwans are  the same size as the Marie Callendars you can get at the grocery store.  I have only had the chicken ones, but the turkey and beef ones look just as good.    You can go to their website and see pictures of all their products.  And, a little write-up with each one will tell you how much you get and how many servings are in each. I have been pleased with all the things that I have gotten from them.

Gloria, glad you enjoyed your dinner.  I have never gotten any of the meals, but they all do look good.  I will be anxious to hear how you like the coconut shrimp.

Hope everyone will have a nice Sunday.

Joy

Good morning, Joy.  I guess you are having somewhat of an Indian Summer.  In your area, cold winter is sure to come.  The sun is brightly shining here, and it's 75° at my house.  The prediction is that we'll get to 90° by mid-afternoon.

Hi everyone on this Sunday morning.  We expect to see it get to 85 degrees again this afternoon.  I am ready for Sunday School and Church this morning.  I have things ready for Pat's breakfast whenever she decides to get up.  This afternoon or tomorrow I will need to make her another batch of the sausage muffins she likes for breakfast.  She alternates those with scrambled eggs and bacon bit or cut up ham and also will have a little bowl of strawberries or cantaloupe. I have no idea what we will do for lunch but will decide later.  Nothing of note occurred yesterday.  Once again the University of Georgia was beaten in college football by the University of Florida. South Carolina did beat Tennessee so all wasn't lost in with the teams I try to follow.   I will likely watch some pro football this afternoon as the Atlanta Falcons play a late game today.

The house across the street is definitely finished and I saw the new owners bringing in a couple car loads and a pickup load of items yesterday.  It is so nice to have our street finished.  Since this is a cul-de-sac we don't have any through traffic.

Gloria, it sounds like you have found a treasure with the Schwan's foods that are easy for you to handle and that you like.  I have never been one to use a salt shaker so if the salt isn't in the food already I don't add any additional to it like Pat does.  As a result I am very sensitive to something being salty.  I just checked our weather forecast for the next 15 days and it is going to warm everyday, at least into the mid-70's and a lot of days into the low to mid-80's with no rain in the forecast.

I just see that Italy has suffered another 6.6 earthquake this morning.

Joan, I think the nutritional drinks are probably more to assure we get the proper vitamins and minerals we need each day than about putting on weight.  I certainly don't need to add any weight but do not see that having one of the Equate nutritional drinks and a nutrition bar each morning is causing any weight gain for me.

Janie, since the new Aldi's store opened here in our town I have been able to buy a dozen eggs for either $0.59 or $0.69.  I am sure I couldn't pass up marshmellows at $0.25 cents as I like them and Pat can't stand them as doesn't like the way they feel in her mouth.

Joan and Phyllis, what a beautiful graphic and it looks like this time of the year although we haven't reached it here yet as the leaves are still on the trees.

I hope this Sunday is a good one for you all.  I know I am expecting it to be so and looking forward to being with friends at church in less than an hour.

Good Morning Everyone!

Just checking in and marking a spot.  Read the post and I see, as usual, I am tail end charlie.

Joy thank you for your answer about Schwans.  I am pretty sure my wife and I are going to try them.  Cooking around this house is getting to be a real chore.  And eating out is a pain to me and gets expensive if you go to a decent place.

Got to get a move on and get ready for church.  Everyone have a good day.

Our weather here is in a transitional phase, we are suppose to have a change for rain starting Tuesday through Thursday.  So they are calling for clouds and fog here this morning and sun this afternoon, but warm.

Good morning from an empty house.  Ken and Alice were both here most of the week.  I've been pretty much away from the computer and I'm waaaaay behind - so I'm not going to try catching up on what's been posted.  If I'm skipping over something I should know, post it again or PM me, ok?

During my last stay in the hospital I had a lot of help cleaning and all sorts of things got either moved around or thrown out.  That's (mostly) great until I can't find something - like my bread recipes when I wanted to make a loaf of bread this morning.   :(

Good morning everyone,  not feeling too great this morning. Lack of sleep again. I think I am wondering about the new doctor I will see next month. Just wondering if I will finally find one who can help this back of mine.

JOAN  with your health I can understand your loss or weight but I always had a good appetite and could really put a meal away. Now I can go all day without eating and not feel hungry.

HAL  I bought the chicken pot pies, they came 4 in a package, serve 1 size. I have not had one yet. If you look at some of the items it will tell you how many it serves. For me the meal I had Friday was 2 meals for me but would be good for 1. It was very tasty. Turkey with broccoli, cauliflower and carrots. I took a container of cranberries I cooked last fall and had some of that with it.

JANE  hope your daughter heard from her doctor. Around here you would not hear from your doctor on a week end, you would get a message to go to the emergency room.

JUNE  I let the answering machine get my calls. So many just phishing. They mostly just hang up when they get the machine. If my TV is on it shows who is calling and their number. Those I know I will pick up the phone.

JENNY  I have stopped asking the CNA to do any cooking for me. I cannot afford to throw food away. She is a very nice young lady and enjoys helping others. If I did not like her I could call and ask for a different CNA.

PHYLLIS  love your graphic for this week.

JOAN  thank you for the DD's this morning. Now a lemon one I will enjoy and eat every crumb of it. Maybe take a second one for later. Chuckles-sure glad out stomachs make new mucus. Food For Thought is one everyone should read and I will be passing it on. Like the quote, too. Thank you for all today's goodies.

AMY  I am glad I no longer have to go to the dump.

JOY  one thing I like about the Schwans site is you can click and read all the ingredients and also the comments from others who have tried the item. The coconut shrimp has 2 bags of pineapple/mango chutney. All things I like.

JOAN  have not seen the sun here for 2 days, no rain but damp.

LARRY  I never put salt on the table like some people do. Once in a great while I get a longing for something salty and that is the only time I will get some pretzel sticks. Have a hand full of them and am satisfied.

JEANNE LEE  like you, when I have been away from the SS for several days it would take me a long time to check all the posts I missed.

Good morning, Lloyd.  Enjoy that good weather.

Larry--Good morning.  You'll probably get to meet your new neighbors some time this week.  I guess by drinking the Ensure/Equate I have better nutrition even if it doesn't help with weight gain.

Good morning halkel.  I sure wish there was rain in our forecast.

Jeanne Lee--Good morning.  Keep look for those recipes and you'll find them just like you did your hearing aid.:)

Good morning, Callie.

Gloria--Good morning.  Sorry that worry over a new doctor is causing you to lose sleep.  I have no appetite either--just eat because I know I must.  Like you I used to be a big eater.  Take all of the lemon DDs you want--there's an never ending supply.

Hello world.  The Grinch came early this year: from Cherryhill Mall, here in London. They don't want me back as their mall Santa. The reason? They fear I'll have another heart attack. I guess they figure it's an annual occurence. This is a huge disappointment to me because in the years I've been doing this I've built a rapport between the children and families who return year after year. They will probably miss me and I know for sure I will miss them. So I'll move on and look for another mall and start over.

I discovered that this morning was a brunch served between the two services.  It was to celebrate the end of the pledge campaign.  I had forgotten about it but I did not have time for breakfast before church this morning so it was the right morning.

I made a quick trip to the Farmer's Market and got an acorn squash, some red beets, a pumpkin to cook for pies and one large onion to cook with the red beets.  Then I went to the Greek farmer and got free range eggs and some homemade stuffed olives.

Then I made a quick stop at WM for bread.  I came home and got ready to cook the pumpkin and made the mistake of sitting down for a minute and I nodded off for about 15 minutes.

So nice to see JeanneLee posting!  You certainly are missed when you're not here!

Good Morning/afternoon to Everyone else who has come in or who will come in.  Now I'm going to go cook the pumpkin so when pie time comes, I'm ready!  Enjoy your day

Radioman--I'm so sorry the Mall let you go.  Guess they think a heart attack is something you schedule to happen yearly.  They are covering their "tail" IMO.  Their loss.  I'm sure another mall will be more than happy to have you.

halkel--Right you are.

Janie--You've really made the rounds so far today.  In a few minutes I am going to check the couch for ZZZs. :)

A good Sunday morning to EVERYFRIEND!

Thank you so much, JOAN, for the wonderful goodies you have for us this morning.  I ðŸ'" the graphic OUR Phyllis has done.  It is very heart warming to look at.  Thank you, PHYLL.

GLORIA, it is awful when our minds keep us from sleeping, but I sure do understand what you are going through.

LARRY, didn't you already meet the new neighbors back before the home was being built?  Seems to me that you did.  Anyway, it sure is nice that your street is complete.  I hope you and Pat enjoy a restful day.

I have never purchased Schwann's but I know many that do and they all seem to love the product.

JACKIE, so with the "fall back" you got even less sleep?  We do not do our time change here for another couple of weeks.... I really wish we could just stay one one time.....we did it for many years and there was no problem!

JEANNE LEE, I sure hope you found your bread recipe.  Positive thoughts and prayers for you feeling stronger each day.

JANE, your body needed that little power nap as you had done a days worth already....love reading all the good stuff you got on your outing after church.

Just found this.....forgot I did not finish it, so best send it now.

Have a wonderful Sunday.

Just got a phone call from my son, Billy, in Arizona with news that makes the loss of recipes seem very unimportant.  His wife, Irene, after six or seven clean years has a recurrence of cancer.   This is the grandmother of the two year old twin boys.  Please keep Irene, and Billy and the rest of the family in your prayers.

Bis, thank you for missing me. This has been an off day for me.Dr. put me on some new meds, so I am blaming the change for feeling Blah. Woke up feeling really tired, so stayed home from Church and have done absolutely nothing worth while all day long. I did manage to come in and do some necessary email, and one snail mail, then back and forth to bed.

Dr. doubled my dose of thyroid pills, and put me on some strong Sodium tablets. Recent blood test showed the need for all this. So we do what the Dr. says and hope for the best.

Jeanne Lee, Prayers have been said for Irene and her loved ones, and for you. I can relate to your lack of recipes...same thing for me, plus some other minor items that I didn't think I would need in my move.

Time to heat up some soup for supper, and back to bed and book. Have a good nigh my dear friends. I love you all. June

It certainly has been a quiet day in the Soda Shoppe today.  Everyone must have been enjoying the nice weather or feeling a bit on the sluggish side.

I cooked my pumpkin and I have enough for 3 pies for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

I wish you all a peaceful night.  Sleep well my friends and May God bless us, every one.

DON....
....Cherryhill mall is not living the Christmas spirit that I would expect, shame on them for their treatment of you as their loyal Father Christmas for all those years, not a very charitable gesture......I totally agree with Halkel..." it is their loss and someone else's gain...."

JEANNE LEE....
...sorry to hear the shock news, re, your boys wife, your d-i-l......this news has certainly picked its moment...

JENNY....
...I think when it comes to your Spring, your clocks spring forward before ours do, yet when it comes to our Autumn, ours go back before yours do....

LARRY HANNA....
...I hope your new neighbours will be as happy as you and Pat are, in their new home....

Food For Thought

Harvest From a Stump

By Joel Vande Werken
Scripture Reading: Isaiah 11:1-9

A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit.
Isaiah 11:1
I talked with a man whose life could be described as a stump; the tree of his life had been cut downâ€"by his own hand. He had squandered everything he had been givenâ€"possessions, family, relationships. Looking at his life ahead, all he could see was years behind bars.
Stumps don’t typically make us think of a rich harvest. But God has a way of bringing new life to dead things. Israel’s time had come to an end, it seemed. The people had squandered everything God had so generously given them. As a nation, they faced exile and destruction. But God still had something in store for them: from a stump, fruit would still come.
Isaiah’s prophecy looked ahead to the coming of God’s promised Savior, Jesus Christ. Although the royal line descending from David, the son of Jesse, had been cut back, we are reminded that life is ultimately rooted in God. The faithful God would bring his people righteousness and justice, even if their stump seemed dead.
The result of Jesus’ faithful life and saving death is peace for God’s peopleâ€"transforming our driest and deadest landscapes into places of growth and hope. In Jesus’ death and resurrection, God has brought forth fruit from what seemed a dry stump. And he will do the same for all who trust in Christ.
Do you trust in him?
Faithful God, thank you for your miraculous work. Where our lives are dry and dead, fill us with the knowledge of your love so that we can bear fruit in Christ. Amen.

JaneS, one year I decided to cook a pumpkin for a pie.  Everything went well but I had a very pale pie.  It tasted fine, but didn't look so good.  I put some molasses in the next pie and that was the solution - the pie not only tasted good, but looked good too.  That was the first and only time I attempted that because it took too much effort to separate the pulp from the rind.

Good morning everyone..

Jeanee Lee, prayers going your way for your family ..

Jane, one time my friend phoned to see if I wanted some pumpkins to make pies so I said ok.......well she said we have 3 could you use them? Thinking 3 PIE pumpkins I said ok. When they drove in I could see pumpkin over the truck box, there were 3 humongous pumpkins!!!  The meat at the neck of them was 6 inches thick!! Well, I did down what I could and sent everyone and anyone off a piece of pumpkin to use. I boiled them down with the skin on, then used the blender to puree it. We ate a lot of pumpkin that year.... and always have a good laugh over it when we meet.

Joan, thank you for breakfast.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning Everyfriend!  We slept in a bit this morning.  I think I finally figured out why I haven't been sleepin well.  I was chilly!  I put an extra blanket on night before last and I've slept through the night both nights.  I do believe it is winter weather in central PA!

Amy, that a LOT of pumpkin!  And you mentioned necks.  It sounds like they are the kind of pumpkins we use for pies.  My dad, who grew up on a farm, said you never use anything but crook neck pumpkins for pie.  I even have to send one to Texas for my daughter because she can't find them down there.  And now I'm sending one to Tulsa to my married granddaughter because she was only 14 when she said, "Grammy, before you die, I want your pumpkin pie recipe!'  She has the recipe but I'm sending her a pumpkin this year.

Today, I've decided that I'm going to cook the beets.  I'll have some to eat just so and some to make pickled eggs.  I'll keep the acorn squash until Thursday and make a stuffed squash with some of the homemade sausage my neighbor gave me.  He and his brother made it and it's like I remember from the farm when I was little.

Time for seconds on the coffee.  I'll see you all on the PWP in the blink of an eye.  Enjoy your day!

Good morning, Janie.  Glad you found out why you weren't sleeping well.  I imagine it's costly to mail those pumpkins, and I am sure the recipients appreciate your generosity.  I love acorn squash stuffed with sausage, but am not fortunate enough to have homemade sausage to use.  I'll join you on the PWP with my coffee.

Good Morning Everyone!
Jeanne Lee you have my prayers.  It seems the big "C" touches everyones life at one time or the other.  Such a terrible, insidious disease. But science is making strides.

It is a coolish morning here. Overcast and dark out.  Everyone is sleeping in here this morning, including the pups.  My middle daughter came up yesterday with her Husky.  Her Apple laptop is not working and she has an appointment with them later today to look at it.  She has to have it for her work.

Her dog and my boxer are like sisters.  They are really attached to each other and love the visit as much as us humans do, I swear.  I can tell my Boxer that Lexie is coming and she gets as excited as can be.

Janie, mailed pumpkins......how do you package them?  In a big box?
Like someone said it must have cost a bundle to mail.  Hope they don't get mushy.

I order from Schwan yesterday and they are delivering today.  Pretty fast service.  I got a coupon, via email, for 30 percent off, so we ordered several items.

See you all on the patio.  Coffee ready, can I bring anyone a cup or should I just grab to pot?

Hi everyone on this sunny Monday Halloween morning.  We expect to get to 83 degrees this afternoon.  Today will involve going to my noon meeting and getting Pat to her 4 pm Chiropractic appointment.  I will just take care of several other errands around the house today including preparing some roast beef for our dinner tonight and taking care of some washing.

Hal, I agree with you how expensive eating out is becoming.  I am noticing that now it is taking $30 or more if we have a good meal at a reasonably nice place.  Even fast food places are not cheap anymore.

Gloria, yesterday outside our church the Boy Scout's, which have their building on our church grounds, were selling popcorn for their fund raiser as they apparently do each year.  All I'll say is that I had a very expensive bag of pre-popped corn last evening but didn't mind as it was a donation to a good cause.  It was suppose to be cheddar popcorn but couldn't taste any cheddar flavor.  Unfortunately they had sold out of caramel corn before I got to the table.  I did get plenty of salt for yesterday with the corn.

Joan, I see they are already moving somethings into the house from the back of their van.  I won't be surprised to see the moving van arrive sometime today.

Don, remember that when one door closes another one usually opens up.  I am sure the kids will miss you.

JaneS, yesterday was also our pledge Sunday at church.  They took a very low-key approach this year and I appreciated it.

Jenny, no I haven't met the new neighbor's yet only seeing them come and go a couple of times as the house was being built and then this weekend. I only saw the man and probably his son helping there this last weekend but this morning the lady of the house is over there.

June, it sounds like the new meds may be getting to you.  Hope today finds you feeling less tired.

Lloyd, Abraham Lincoln was very insightful.

Amy, I don't remember my wife ever trying to cook down pumpkin to make the filling for a pie.  She had made a lot of pumpkin pies over the years but has used the canned mixes and then added her own spices.

Joan, the most memorable pie I ever made was a cherry pie.  I like things tart, so I used a can of tart cherries, then did not add any sugar.  There were a few puckered lips around the table that day.  I solved the problem by lifting the top crust and sprinkling sugar over the cherries.

JaneS, your mention of acorn squash reminds me that I should add one to the grocery list.  Tom does all of the grocery shopping but I make up the list.  If I don't see the squash, I forget about it and I like acorn squash.  I also have found that a blanket over my sheet makes sleeping better.  I do find it necessary most of the time to get up in the middle of the night, but I go right back to sleep under my warm bedding.

With all the talk about Schwan's, I am considering ordering from them.  It sounds more practical for us than getting three meals a week from Blue Apron or one of the others, good as they may be.  Tom does much of the cooking now, but he is often gone and I see what is in the refrigerator, or eat a frozen dinner.  So many of the frozen dinners have the same taste, probably from preservatives.  I do like Mrs Callendar's pot pies, but how often so I want to eat a pot pie!?

My pumpkin pies these days, when I bake a pumpkin pie, are from the recipe on the Libby pumpkin can.

halkel, Good morning.  It seems talking about Schwan here in the SS generated quite a bit of business for them.  Coffee--just grab the pot.

Good morning, Larry.  It seems all items sold by youth as fund raisers are very high priced.  You'll probably meet your new neighbors before week's end.

Mary Ann--Good morning.  It makes my mouth pucker just reading about your tart cherry pie.  I get pies from a bakery called "Joan's Pies" when I really need a pie for a special occasion.  Her pies are costly, but large and delicious.

Good morning everyone, a bright sunny Halloween here but cold.

JOAN  I am just praying this new doctor can help me with this back. Would love to be able to move around at a more normal way.

DON  Those families with children will miss you at that mall. Big disappointment to you, too, because you enjoy that job.

JENNY  seems like I worry about every little thing these days. Clocks got back next week end.

JEANNE LEE  will be praying for Irene and Billy.

JOAN  I must be odd but I do not like the taste of pumpkin so will pass on breakfast this morning. Like the Halloween chuckles. Copied Food For Thought, another good one. Thank you for all today's goodies.

LLOYD  like the quote you posted by Abraham Lincoln.

JANE  I enjoyed the acorn squash I cooked last week.

HAL  I had one of the chicken pot pies yesterday. For me it was too salty so I did not enjoy it. I got that 30% off for a first order, too.

LARRY   sorry you missed the caramel popcorn.

MARY ANN  my pie making days are over. If I cannot make my own crust I will not eat the bought kind, no taste to them.

JOAN  glad I mentioned Schwans in here.

Good morning Joan, and all the other friends.

Gloria, I am really sorry that you didn't enjoy the chicken pot pie.  I don't find them too salty. I have only had the chicken, so don't know how the others are.

Don, I am sorry to hear that you have lost your "Santa" job.  How sad !!  I think they should have consulted you first and let you make the decision as to whether you feel well enough to continue the job.   Like someone else mentioned:   Their loss !!   I know you did enjoy it and you made a perfect "Santa".

All the talk about pumpkin pie is making me hungry for one.  But, I will take the easy way out..... either buy one or make my own from canned pumpkin.  I remember one of my aunts was a wonderful cook and baker.  And, she made good pumpkin pies.  My mother was just an average cook, and she was so surprised when my aunt told her that she only used canned pumpkin.  Here my mother could picture her cutting up the pumpkin and making the filling from scratch.  I know there is a different between the canned pumpkin..... some is a pumpkin pie filling and the other is just the pure pumpkin. I would use the pure pumpkin and add my own extra seasonings.  My mother would always add a little bit of "spirits" to the filling.   I would find it way to hard to cut up the fresh pumpkin.

It is a pretty sunny day, but will not get to  the 80 + degree temperature we had yesterday.

Hope everyone will have a wonderful Monday.

Joy

I'm not a good pie crust maker and I'm not a good cherry pie maker.  Most of my cherry pie comes from a place called "Margie's fine baked goods'.  That would be my sister.  She seems to have inherited my grandfather's baking talent.  He owned a bakery when he met my grandmother.  When we were growing up we had the best of anything baked and that was saying a lot in the day of a very erratic gas oven and the war years with almost no sugar or butter.

I forgot who commented on the cost of sending pumpkins to Texas.  No it's not cheap but the reward is very special.  They report on the arrival, the cooking, the baking and the sharing.

JeanneLee, I think I forgot to say how sorry I am to hear about your DIL.  I didn't forget to add her and her family and you to my prayers.  God worked a miracle once.  He can do it again.

While I was writing this, I had a phone call from my daughter in Maryland.  He almost 97 year old Father-in-Law passed away yesterday.  They were expecting it and he knew it was coming and he was ready.  They had obtained Hospice Care for him for the past week.  However, it's not every easy to lose someone you love no matter how prepared you are.  Please say a prayer for Lew that he is in a happier place.

I hope all's well in your world!

Joan, my favorite way to make a cherry pie is to use the Pillsbury crust (sorry, Gloria) and a can of cherry pie filling (not tart).  Easy as “pie”.  For apple pie, I do slice apples and add sugar, cinnamon and butter.  One of my favorite desserts is to make a biscuit dough (from Jiffy), pat it out thin, then chop up apples and nuts, put them on the dough and roll the dough, then cut it in one-inch pieces.  Make a simple syrup and pour over it and bake.  I once entered that for a cookbook at work and it was put in with breads - because of the word "roll".

That's a neat Halloween card, Gloria.  I received one this morning from a friend and it seemed too quiet; I'll have to go back to view it.  It was early this morning and maybe I wasn't awake yet.

Joy, I've been known to add rum flavoring to my pumpkin pies, but I haven't in many years.

I send prayers for all of those in need.

Mary Ann

Gloria--I pray the new doctor can help your back, too.  I am a salt lover, so am sure the Schwan items would taste good to me.  You certainly generated business for them.  Thanks for the link to the JL card--very nice.

Phyllis--Thank you.

Joy--My mother couldn't make a good pie, so I guess I take after her.  I don't care for pumpkin pie, but I like pumpkin bread and muffins.  My favorite pie is blueberry.

Janie--Lucky you to have had a father and now a sister who were such good bakers.  I most certainly will say extra prayers for Lew and that family--that he is in a happier place.

Mary Ann--Sure sounds like you are a much better pie maker than I am.

Joan, if you like pumpkin bread and muffins,  have you tried the Pumpkin Roll ?   It is like a jelly-roll.  The filling is a cream cheese filling.  They are really good.

I do like Pumpkin pie, but do not care for the pumpkin flavored coffee or the pumpkin bread or muffins.  And, the pumpkin pie HAS to have whipped cream on the top.  LOL

Like you always say.........whatever floats your boat.  Sure would be a dull world if everybody liked all the same things. That is what makes life interesting.

Joanie, it wasn't my father who was the baker.  It was my grandfather on my mother's side.  However, my father was a farm boy and one of 7 boys.  Since my grandmother didn't have daughters, she grabbed the nearest son when she needed help.  My father, being one of the younger ones was more often than not, the one grabbed.  So he learned to cook and bake at an early age.  He's the originator of the vegetable soup.

I have the beets cooked and eggs cooked to make pickled eggs but I need to get some cider vinegar for the pickling.  So I'll go a bit early for TLH and pick that up and mail my pumpkins to TX on the way.  By the way, beets are good for Cholesterol, heart and eyesight....and probably some things I've forgotten.

I think I better be gettin myself ready to roll.  Enjoy the rest of your day, Everyfriend!

:broomstick:HAPPY HALLOWEEN :witch:

I made pumpkin cookies with caramel frosting for my Bridge Club last week.  I put 4 cookies in a sandwich baggie as a Treat for each player.  I only saw one lady taking her baggie home;  the rest had eaten all of their cookies!

The motor in my vacuum cleaner burned out and housecleaners are due tomorrow.   I had done some on-line research and pretty well knew what I wanted was available at Wal-Mart.  So, this morning, Son and I went shopping and then stopped by KFC to bring lunch back to my house.

After that, he cut pieces of chicken wire to fit in my five pot/planters.  I want to plant bulbs there and have heard that burying chicken wire over the bulbs will keep squirrels, etc. from digging them up. The plants are supposed to grown through the chicken wire.
We shall see.

No Trick or Treaters in this gated complex since one neighbor's grandchildren grew up and she stopped bringing them over.
Looks as if the rest of my day will be "leisurely".

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere a lovely day.

Janie, my brother in law, some years back, went to the bathroom and his urine was a strange color.  He rushed to the emergency room and they took a sample and run all kinds of test and couldn't find the reason.  And, long story short, at supper that night he had had a over abundance of beets, hence the strange color.  And much to the relief of him and the doctors.  They all had a good laugh.

Joan, it's easy to make a good pie when all of the ingredients come out of cans.

My washer quit spinning the other day so Tom and I went shopping today.  I am the proud owner of a new laundry pair which will be delivered next week.  Funny, but when I was in the department selling appliances, it was no trouble to have appliances delivered in two days, not a week.  Oh well, we had a nice salesman.  I've mentioned that my present pair are 35 years old.  I know the new ones won't last that long - and neither will I!

Callie--Your cookies must have hit the spot with the bridge group if all except one person polished off their bag before they left.  Good luck with your planting seeds.  Bummer you had to buy a new cleaner. My housekeepers bring three cleaners with them.

Halkel--those beets caused a costly trip to the ER. :) :)

No June today.  Hope she is.OK.

Joan,  I guess the cream cheese is a no-no if  you are lactose intolerant.   I know you have mentioned before about that problem and I didn't give that a thought, knowing that the filling was cream cheese based.

I like pickled beets and Harvard beets, but don't care for just cooked beets.  Don't know why??  For a while now,  I have seen beet salad on several menus from different restaurants that I go to.  That doesn't appeal to me, either.

June, do hope you will start feeling better.

JOY, my beets are pickled.  That's the way I like them best, too.

My daughter ordered that beet salad at a restaurant once when I was with her.  It didn't appeal to me on the menu and I really didn't like the look of it but she said it was good.  I asked her, "good enough to order again?" and she said "yes".  We'll see!

Another day of rest. I did dress and go down to the library, got some bread, boxes of cereals, a banana, an apple, a jar of milk,  and two more books. So I am set for whatever comes. I'm hoping to get downstairs at ten a.m. tomorrow for our Community Residents meeting. And get my ballot filled out, and whatever else the day offers. It's up to the body, of course.

I like pickled beets too. My folks just used to serve them cooked, buttered, and seasoned, but even back they I sprinkled vinegar on mine. Pumpkin pie is not my favorite, but my Dori makes one that is delectable.  I have never cared for mince pie.

Gary called me from San Diego today. He and Dori are taking a couple days off..and they deserve it. He agreed with me that a change in medications may be what wiped me out for two days.

I have to place a grocery order soon. I had a frozen Healthy Choice fish dinner that was very good, will order another of those and perhaps some Marie Calendars pot pies.

That's it from my house to your house for today. I'll have a light supper and so to bed. Keep well my dear ones, I love you all so very much. June

Jane, do you put sliced onions in your pickled beets.   I like the onions almost as much as the beets.  I used to have  a good recipe for pickled onions.  The onions were sliced thin in rings.   My husband worked for Heinz, and I think this recipe was in a little pamphlet that had come in with some mail from Heinz.   Can't remember how they were fixed and I haven't seen the little pamphlet for a long time.  I will have to go looking for it.  I think it was a pamphlet for all different kinds of pickles made with Heinz vinegar.

I am sure yours are very good.

What you call " Beets." we call Beetroot over here....we would eat cooked ( boiled ) beetroot, then sliced, in our salads......or some would roast beetroot in the oven, although personally, I have never tried that......Beetroot is good for you but, yes, you do have to remember it will temporarily change the colour of your urine, so remember, dont panic....

During one of our weekly weight-loss classes, the group leader was extolling the merits of the program's prepared-food products.

She raved about the rich, delicious flavor of the imitation chocolate fudge and the nondairy pops, assuring us that we could eat them without the least fear of ruining our diets.

The woman next to me nodded her head emphatically and then whispered, "They're even better when you spread peanut butter on them!"

Food For Thought

DO I KNOW WHAT I REALLY WANT
(By Debbie Preuss)

This fresh question now does daunt
Do I know what I really want
Money, power, love or fame
So many things that I could name
But these treasures will not last
When my mortal life has passed
There is One to whom I cling
Jesus Christ the King of Kings
He is all I want or need
This should be my daily creed
The longing in my soul He fills
He's there through the rockiest of hills
When I'm low He lifts me up
Then invites me to with Him sup
He is my Savior, Lord and King
My all in all my everything
Yes I fail Him this I know
For forgiveness to Him I go
He is there waiting for me
So He can loose the chains and set me free
So I know what I really want
This question does no longer daunt
There is one to whom I cling
Jesus Christ the King of Kings

Good Morning Everyfriend...especially you, Joanie and Lloyd.  I was up when you were writing but I was outside with the doggies.

There's no school this Thursday and Friday and since Thursday is one of my regular days with Kiran, I was going to lose out.  Instead, I'll be picking her up after my appointment at the bank at 9 and we'll be spending the day together.  I haven't done this for a while.  I think we'll also pick up her friend in the afternoon and they can spend some time together.  They haven't really had any time since Kiran moved to another building for 4th grade.  Gemma is a class behind her.

JOY, my pickled beets do have sliced onions in them.  I couldn't find my mother's recipe when I wanted to make them years ago but I found that the recipe in the Ball Blue Book is very similar to hers.  The thin that convinced me was that it called for stick cinnamon and that was also in hers.  They are very good!

It's almost time to go feed the doggies and get myself some breakfast.  I hope you all have a lovely day doing whatever strikes your fancy.

the other day they were here they did that. next day I was setting here looking out and the rain gauge caught my eye it had 4" water in it( some rain huh) they are a treat to have But also glad to see them go home and put the house back in order. have a great day with them.

Good morning everyone, another frosty morning here with 30°. Well I mote week to fined out who will win the drawn out election slander. I still do not understand the early voting and why they have it is many states now. Mail in ballots are great.

JOY  I had the chicken pot pie. I use very little salt so could be why I found the one I had salty.

JANE  I made cherry pies with the cans of cherry oie filling. That was what older son wanted instead of a birthday cake. Sorry to read Lew is now with our Father. May he RIP.

MARY ANN  I have tried the Pillsbury piecrust and even the ones that are premade in the aluminum pie plates but do not one came anywhere near home made.

JOAN  last night ai had 4 of the coconut shrimp, yummy. They filled me and there are a lot more in the bag. The chutney with them was pretty good, too. Like you I do not like pumpkin pie but do like squash pie. I think it is the different spices used. I like most pies and when I could I rather make pies than a cake.

JANE  I love pickled beets, only one in my family who does.

JUNE  hope you adjust to the new meds soon.

CALLIE  sure glad I can eat tomatoes, would have a nice fresh one every day if they were available.

JOAN  a cheese Danish will taste good this morning. Food for Thought I another good one. Will copy that one. Thank you for all today's goodies.

LLOYD   I agree with you, 2 pair of glasses is a pain.

JANE  enjoy Thursday with Kiran.

Good morning, Joan and all the Tuesday morning friends.,   Joan, the Danish pastries will be a nice treat this morning.

JaneS.  I just posted a recipe I found on the Blue Ball canning jar site, over in the "What's For Dinner" message board.  When you have a little bit of time,  can you check it out and see if it is similar to the one you have.  I am particularly interested because it reads that you don't have to process the beets.   I wrote a little bit about my canning experience years ago.  So, I think I might try this recipe.

Good morning, Gloria.  I voted by absentee ballot.  Sure will be glad when this election is over.  Good to know that shrimp was tasty.  I never had squash pie--to be honest, I never heard of it.

Joy--Good morning.  We used to have to help my mother with canning, but I  NEVER canned after I was away from home.

Where's Amy?  I hope all is OK with her and her husband.

Hi everyone on an overcast first day of November.  My agenda is fairly light today with the main activity being an appointment with my Cardiologist at 12:15 this afternoon.  It is a followup appointment from seeing her two months ago.  I have already fixed Pat's breakfast as she wasn't moving very well this morning and have emptied the dishwasher and cleaned up the kitchen.

Yesterday was a very busy day.  I contacted Comcast as I had decided the modem/router I was using was failing and will could be the source of many of the problems.  The tech at Comcast agreed with me so I took the device back to Comcast, which isn't very far from where I live and replaced it.  I then went on to my meeting stopping at the Target store for a tube of Crescent rolls that Pat wanted for a recipe.     I came home and rested for awhile and then got up and helped Pat get our roast beef in the oven for our dinner.  It was soon time to go to the Chiropractor and when I got home I spent an hour with Comcast to get my new device activated.  Scott was off work yesterday as it would have been his 24th wedding anniversary and he came out and had dinner with us and stayed a couple more hours.  He was very down yesterday.

Our new neighbors moved in yesterday as the big moving van arrived and was here most of the day.  Seeing all of those boxes going into the house brought back some memories of us a couple of years ago and I have to say I am glad it is them and not me.

Joan, at least when you serve the pie and another asks you can say yes this is Joan's pie and maybe they will assume that you made it.  :)  We have found that COSTCO has delicious pies but they are really too big for two people or will seldom buy one.

Gloria, you sound like me with the food tasting salty since I seldom salt anything.  Do you like the graham cracker pre-made pie crusts?

Joy, as you do my wife always adds spices to pumpkin or other fruit pies.  We have found that the Aldi's apple, cherry and blueberry pie mixes make a very quick and easy pie and no other spices are needed. I have never heard of pickled onions.

JaneS, times of death within a family circle are always difficult even when we know it is coming and the person is ready to go.

Gloria ,you made my mouth water with the coconut shrimp...love those too.

Joan, thank you for breakfast.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good morning, Larry.  You sure were busy yesterday.  I hope the new modem/router makes a difference in how your equipment works.  I'm sure you understand how those special dates make one feel "down".  It was nice Scott could spend part of the day with you and Pat.  Yep--you come to my house, and you get one of "Joan's Pies".:)

Amy--Good morning.  That's a nice service your doctor has for getting a flu shot.

Gloria, if I want to make a pie, since I don't make them from scratch any more (and didn't do a great job when I did), it is either the Pillsbury or store brand or no pie.  I can't say that I've ever noticed the taste of the crust anyway.  I do not buy the crusts in the aluminum pans they're not deep enough - I need an honest to gosh 9-inch pie dish.  I did not cook regularly for a family as you did, but I did do all of the desserts even before my mother died.  I got to be quite a good cake baker and I had a folder that had many cake recipes in it - a great variety.  I even made 7-minute frosting which others seemed to avoid.  I'll tell you - "them days are gone forever!"

Joan, I must vote this week and I plan to have Tom take me to the Township building so I can leave my ballot there.  We have some local issues on the ballot too, besides the Presidential and Congressional issues.  I still do not know which Presidential candidate to vote for as I don't like either one.  Things may have changed, but it was my understanding at one time that the pumpkin in cans was really squash.  I know it is a lot darker than what I ended up with when I made pumpkin pie from scratch.  The Libby's pumpkin I buy does not have any seasoning in it, I have to provide that.  They have a recipe on the label that I follow and it is good.

Good morning, Mary Ann.  I like to eat just plain pie crust.  When my fraternal grandma made pies (she'd make 8-10 at a time) she made a couple extra crusts for me.  Oh my--7 minute frosting.  I haven't made that in years.  Hmmm--the pumpkin in cans is squash?  There sure are lots of whitecaps.

Good Morning all, I am running late this morning. Woke us at 3:30 this morning and body did not want to go back to sleep, so got up at four and filled my medicaton boxes, and did a few minor chores. Back to bed, to doze a bit, then up at six to start the day.

Now I am due downstairs for a Community meeting. We will be voting on new Community Executive Officers. Then I am free till 2:45 for exercise class. I missed last time, so have to get back in shape. Still a bit weary, but that may be a normal condition now.

Time to make the bed and ready the body for clothing. see you later, June

Good afternoon, cool and cloudy day. A little wind, but nothing like we have had for the last week.

I was suprised I had only one child come to the door,  I had made up 20 bags of candy. Generally we have children by the carload, as parents field safe bring them into a senior park.  I just read that the Key Club at the high school turned the halls into Halloween spooks with cob webs. They had candy, games etc. Parents and children all had a good time and they were off the streets. I like reading about the good things high school students do for others.

Joan, I also like cheese Danish,  Thanks

June, hope you get to feeling better.

Yesterday, I went for my new hearing aid, it will be over $3000. if I get ins. for three years.

Gloria it got down to 35 here.  the man next door said he had ice in something on his porch.

Prays to all in need.

Amy sounds like you have a nice doctor. My primary doc. I have had for 20 years. Next week I have 3 doctor's appointments Hemotalagist, breathing doc. and dentist.

I am not going to my Lassie meeting to morrw (women's club, in park) as I will not be able to hear anything being said.

Linedancer--Apparently the "trick or treaters" you usually had went to the event that the Key Club had at the high school.  Kudos to those students for providing a safe place.  Wow--a hearing aid sure is costly.

Linedancer, I'm so sorry you had to go ahead and replace your hearing aid.  I found out that if I'd had to replace mine it wouldn't be covered by my homeowners insurance. And since I really need them for both ears you can imagine what they would cost   If I wanted them covered I'd need to add a rider to the policy.

Back again, I went to the Residemts meeting. It was interesting, but glad to be home. I feel like I'm getting a head cold, so I will see what the rest of the day brings. I will have some lunch at home, and hopefully manage to get a monthly grocery order posted. I made myself a cup of hot tea, with brandy and honey added. It is a family type thing for many ailments, and it is a great recipe. If it doesn't really heal, it still makes you feel good. I was thinking chicken noodle soup for lunch, but since the cup of tea, I may switch to Hormel's chili with beans.

Good afternoon everyone!

As you can see I am running late today.  Been a kinda busy morning.  My daughter had to go up to Best Buy and get a power cord for her laptop, expensive things, almost 80 bucks. And then I had to check on an appointment for my injection.  I was looking and said that doesn't sound right, so I called and the young lady who answered confirmed my suspicion the guy who booked me got the date wrong.  The only do injections on certain days.  At any rate it was corrected and now all I have to do is get out tomorrow and pick up the med.

Weather here is hot.  Cool mornings and hot afternoons.  Storms predicted for later tonight.  We can use the rain.

Amy, my primary care doctor is young and eager and hasn't learned that old folks have more ailments than the law allows and the more you dig to more you find.  No way he is going to make me feel like a young man anymore, just, hopefully stop the aches and pains.  But in our part of the world it seems that there is a doctor for every part of the body.  I yearn for the old days, you get a good doctor and he takes care of you.  Not some specialist who has a waiting room full and not a lot of time for the patient.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Jeanne Lee--And aren't you a happy camper that you found your hearing aid?

June--I once had a boss who, at the sound of any of us sniffling, he dragged out the tea, the liquor and the honey.  I didn't like the taste, but I guess it helped.

halkel--Good thing you discovered you had your appointment wrong before it was time to go there.

Well, I came home from work and sat down here to read and could not keep my eyes open.  So I took my blanky, my doggies and my weary body to the bed room and stretched out...for almost 2 hours.  I guess I was more tired than I thought!

I have a meeting at church tonight and a friend is picking me up so I don't have to drive in the dark.  I'm grateful for friends who will do this for me.  I'm sure they don't realize what a great service they do for someone like me.  And I think they are happy to be of help.  I did my share when I was younger and I never thought of it as a burden.  I also didn't know how big a difference it made in someone's life.  I guess it's like the kids say nowadays "you gotta be there".

Guess I better get the doggies fed and get myself ready to be picked up.

JOY, I answered your question about the pickled beets over in the cooking forum.

Janie--Like you, I was the one who picked up friends and did most of the driving.  I was glad to be able to do it.  I don't drive anymore at night either, so on the rare occasion that I go out after dark, I have to ask someone to pick me up.  Glad you got such a good nap.

Hi Kids, I think I have acquired a new enemy..sore throat and slight cough. I don't feel good. So changed back to nightgown and stayed home after the meeting this morning. I have cough syrup, cough drops, thermometer, which registers as normal. The tea, brandy and honey did help, and I ate a hearty lunch, but things always seem more bleak at night fall, so I think I'll do another tea drink, have a light supper, take the rest of the daily meds, remove the nitro patch for the night hours and just relax, and let go. I know I should avoid the public, as it is too easy to pass things along to the other elderlies. If I don't feel better by morning I will call down to the clinic and arrange to have meals sent up.

Take care dear hearts, be well and happy. I love you much. June

I think I'll do like JUNE and opt for an early bedtime tonight.  I have to work tomorrow and then I have Kiran on Thursday so early to bed makes sense tonight.

I wish you all a peaceful night's rest and a good day tomorrow.  May God bless us, every one!

Jane, yes, I saw your message over in the "What's for dinner" board.

Now, I have to wait until I can get some beets.  I don't remember seeing beets at our grocery store, but might have missed them, since I really wasn't looking for them.  I wont' be going to a Farmer's Market until probably after Thanksgiving.  We have an indoor market/craft show after Thanksgiving up to right before Christmas. There are several produce people there.  Unless, I can get to the Amish market up in Shrewsbury, Pa.  Where in Maryland does your daughter live?

Have a good evening.

Good evening.....running behind again, but did get all the posts read and know what you all are up to.

We went to Dr. Dave's for Halloween.  Enjoyed our Michele's special home made mac and cheese for dinner. It has been the tradition for many years, and it sure was delicious.  We stay at their home to pass out the candy so they can all go out as a family and have fun.  All the kiddos we had at the door were the most polite ones we have had in years.  They were all delightful.  Older kids on an average...think little ones are doing more organized trick or treating these days.

Today was the community bus to Black Hawk, our gambling town.  We had a fun chat session on the way up....pulled a few one arm bandits arms and enjoyed a nice lunch.  It was a beautiful day.  On the way home, my dad called to tell me had a fall when he got out of bed very early this morning.  He ended up going to the ER but was released after several hours.  He is extremely bruised and has a very large blood thing pooling just in front of his arm pit.....they just want him to keep ice on it and watch it....so I am breathing easier now.  So hard to have him so far away when issues arise like this.

GLORIA, Bob and I use no extra salt at all, so we, too, find many prepared meals much too salty.  Hope you enjoy the next one you try more.

We have a family friend's funeral tomorrow.  It is in MN so we will not attend but sure will be there in spirit.  Sorry about your loss, JANE.

JUNE, I am sorry you have managed to pick up a cold...I hope you can rest well tonight and hope you are feeling better tomorrow.  Hugs.

I have been on the telephone making calls, so time has slipped away.  Will say good night for now.

JENNY...
...Sorry to hear of your fathers fall, times like this one feels so helpless, as you say, re, the travelling difference....

Jenny, I hope this time round you got the better of that one armed bandit...
..............................

Been another restless night for me, we both got up around 3.am...then I managed to grab another hours sleep in bed, 30 or 45 mins later..... Its now 5.15am...been up half hour already, and I am now up and about drinking my first cup of tea of the day...and pondering on which way today will go...been a " swings and roundabouts..." last couple of weeks.....

Good Wednesday morning, Everyfriend.  There's a breakfast buffet to accompany your coffee or tea. I wish everyone a good day!!

CHUCKLES

Diet Additive

During one of our weekly weight-loss classes, the group leader was extolling the merits of the program's prepared-food products.

She raved about the rich, delicious flavor of the imitation chocolate fudge and the nondairy pops, assuring us that we could eat them without the least fear of ruining our diets.

The woman next to me nodded her head emphatically and then whispered, "They're even better when you spread peanut butter on them!"

Food For Thought

Crops and Weeds

By Joel Vande Werken
Scripture Reading: Matthew 13:24-30, 36-43

When the wheat sprouted and formed heads, then the weeds also appeared.
Matthew 13:26
In farming, weed control is a common process, and it takes a lot of work. Today herbicides and other products are often used to control the growth of destructive, unwanted plants.
In Jesus’ day, however, no such products were available. Undetected weeds would grow along with a crop, crowding out growing plants and competing for valuable sunlight and for nutrients in the soil.
In our growth and development as followers of Christ, we learn that the devil works to choke out a possible harvest. He can’t uproot the good seed sown by God’s Word, but he can try to crowd out its growth. Perhaps you’ve seen this in your own life. Broken family relationships and friendships, selfishness, greed, immorality, and turning back to old habits seem to overtake the growth of God’s good seed, and we wonder if there will be a harvest.
Jesus’ story makes clear that God is not the author of evil: “An enemy did this.” And yet the story also shows God’s ability to produce a harvest despite the presence of evil. While we should not embrace anything that works against God’s will, we need not worry that evil can choke out the growth of the good seed God sows.
This is good news! Though we can’t protect ourselves from every evil influence, we can be sure that God will protect his harvest in us.
So many weeds grow among the good seed of our lives, Lord. By your Spirit, work within us, guard our hearts, and keep our hope of the harvest alive. Amen.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  And a special good morning to you, Joanie.  And thanks for your extra work in making this a good experience for all of us.  I know I don't show my appreciation as often as I should but I feel it every day.

Lloyd, prayers go with you today.  I trust that all will go well and recovery will be speedy.

Joy, my daughter lives in Frederick, MD.  I don't know how far that is from where you live but it's about 2 and 1/2 hours from here.  Since my granddaughter now lives with her, I don't see her as much as I used to.  I miss that contact but I know that the two of them are enjoying being together again.

Amy, you sneaked in while I was typing.  "No Snow" isn't quite the forecast that I look for.  Although it's definitely a good one.  What I'd rather hear is, sunshine and temps in the 70.  I guess we won't hear that one around her for a while!  Darn!

It's getting on toward time to feed the doggies and start getting ready for work.  I've had my first cup of coffee and I'm ready for breakfast.  I wish you all a good day full of whatever pleases you the most.

Good morning, Lloyd.  I hope all goes well for you at the VA today.

Amy--Good morning.  No snow there means no dances with snow removal equipment.:)  I imagine your husband will be very glad to get out of the house.

Good morning, Janie.  Your kind words are appreciated!!  Up that way it'd be a miracle to have a winter without snow.  I wish you all smiles in your line at WM today.

It's errand day for me--and maybe breakfast out.:)

Good MOrning Everyone!

Joanie, thanks for breakfast for the tummy and soul.  I think we all have had a few weeds in our life.

Lloyd I hope things go well with you and everything heals up quickly and nicely.  No fun being cut on.

Janie, I hope your day goes well.  Give the pups a hug for me.

Jackie, hopefully your sleep returns to normal soon.  It makes a long day when you get up so early.

Amy, enjoy the day out with your hubby.  Maybe you can find a nice cafe to have a noon meal in.

I have to go pickup my med for my injection next week.  I still haven't figured out why they don't have the med on hand at the hospital.  Oh, well, hopefully this is the last one for awhile.  I will have to see how my blood test comes out and if my PSA has gone to zero.  If not, I will have another series of three shots.

Everyone have a good day.

Good morning everyone, no frost this morning and is warm 48°. Crazy weather still going on.

JOAN  a squash pie looks like a pumpkin pie but the taste is milder. May be a Yankee thing.

LARRY  I had a SIL who was a good cook and baker but when she got older and she had company she would take bought pastry and store it in the oven, then she would tell her guests that she just took it out of the oven. She did not lie. The graham cracker pie crusts are good for some pies but would never use one for a fruit pie.

AMY  at least there are 2 things I will order from Schwans again. Still have more to have. Come opn over, still have a lot of those shrimp. Only had 4 of them and I did not count how many there are in that bag.

MARY ANN  I had a lot of cake recipes and I also made the 7 minute frosting. It was not hard to make, just took more time. I did even bake bread, so tasty compared to what we buy. All those things I can no longer do. I always thought pumpkin pie was darker with the spices used.

JOAN  if my Mom had extra piecrust she would roll it out and spread some sugar and cinnamon on it and roll it up. Make tuts about every inch and bake it. I did the same thing only I would add some nuts and of course my 3 always looked forward to that.

AMY  I would love to find a good old fashioned doctor who would take care of every thing, now you get an Internist and they send you to all kind of specialists.

JUNE  hopr today finds you with more of your energy.

GLORIA de  I saw one little one here, her Mom brought her to see her Grandma and she was dressed like Super Woman,. That was the only one I saw but AI know one lady's great grand would have been here. Yesterday at this time every thing was covered in a heavy frost and now from what I see on the TV it is 50°

JEANNE LEE  I am glad my hearing is still good. I would never be able to afford hearing aids.

HAL  I am with you about having one doctor who gets to know the patient and not a lot of specialists who give you 15 minutes if you are lucky.

JANE  I know that time when driving at night gets to be hazardous. Last time I did it I was shaking by the time I pulled into the driveway. Now I do not drive at all and I sure miss that independence.

JENNY  sorry about your Dad's fall. That is the one thing that scares me. I did enjoy the coconut shrimp. I have 3 more of those chicken pot pies and do not think I will try them.

JACKIE  no fun when we do not get the sleep we need.

JOAN  a buffet this morning will be great. Getting tired of oatmeal every morning. Chuckles, don't like artificial food so would not  want what that group leader was trying to sell. Another Food for Thought copied. Thank you for all today's goodies.

LLOYD  my thought and prayers are with you today.

AMY  have a nice day taking your hubby out for a drive.

JOAN  enjoy you time out for errands and don't rush home.

HAL  hopefully that shot will do what it is supposed to.

Hi everyone.  We have sun today after a day yesterday when it stayed overcast all day and the temperature went no higher than 75.  Today we expect to get to 80 degrees.  Yesterday I saw my Cardiologist for a followup appointment and don't need to see her again for 6 months.  I was shocked as was finished and on my way home within 30 minutes of my appointment.  That was most unusual.  Later I took Pat  to the chiropractor.  Today should also be quiet and I will fix the sausage muffins for Pat and I don't know what else.  I will eat tonight at the church with Scott and then he plans on coming out to spend a few hours with us.

Joan, so far so good with the new Gateway.  Pat used her computer all day without having to reboot it or lose the wi-fi connection.  Glad I tumbled onto the fact the router was going bad before I spent a lot of money trying to get her computer repaired.  My Dad always wanted pie crust with his strawberries and cream.  It had to be very thin and crispy.

deAngel, that was a great thing for the high school Key Club to do.  I am sure my wife is going to have to get hearing aids one of these days.  I am having to raise my voice for her to understand what she is saying and she is speaking more softly and I am having to ask her to repeat herself a lot.  My hearing may be weakening but certainly isn't bad.  Hearing aids are certainly expensive but glad they have them to help people hear.

June, hope you have been able to ward off the head cold and that today finds you feeling a bit more peppy.

JaneS, like Joan said she felt when she was able to drive a friend somewhere, I too find it satisfying to do something like that.

Jenny, sorry to see that your Dad had fallen and I bet he will be very sore for awhile.  Sure glad he didn't break a bone.

Jackie, you sure are having short nights.

Lloyd, I sure hope you get the non-cancerous report that you are expecting.

Mary Ann, I haven't had a 7-minute cake frosting for years.  My mother used to make it and Pat made some in the past.  It sure was better than what we get in the cans now.

Amy, I can understand your hubby needing to get out of the house for awhile.  Pat feels the same way as other than go to the chiropractor and a few times out to eat she hasn't left the house.

Hal, are you taking the Lupone shots?  I hope your PSA has also gone to zero.

Gloria, I like what your SIL's did with her pies.  It is like buying potato salad or something at the store and bringing it home, adding something to it, and putting it in your own dish to take to a potluck or to serve at home.  My mother also would use the left over pie crust and make strips with sugar and cinnamon on it.  It sure was good and crisp and a real treat.  Good memories.

Good Wednesday morning.

Joan, the buffet breakfast was very good this morning.  I hope you get to have breakfast out today.  I will add my thanks for all you do here to keep us all up to date and fed.  LOL

Jane, I am not quite an hour from Frederick.  That is a very nice town with a lot of history.  I haven't been up there for a good while.  A few years ago, I had read that they had created an area they were calling the river walk.  My DIL and I went up to see what all was there.  It was a nice little promenade along a little stream, I guess you would call it.   Several restaurants and other shops.  Nothing like the River Walk in San Antonio, tho.   We had lunch and looked around.  We also went to a farmers market that was in the area.  I would like to go to a restaurant up there called Dutch's  Daughter, I think it is.   Looks like such a nice place.  There is also a wonderful, huge Joann Fabric's Store in one of the shopping centers.

Gloria, I am getting an order from Schwan's today.   A bag of corn dogs and a pumpkin pie.  All the talk here lately about pumpkin pie was making me hungry.  Schwan's had a special on the pumpkin pie.  I won't have room in my freezer, so I will bake it when it comes.
I will have to try the coconut shrimp.  I am not a big "hotdog" person, but I do like their corn dogs.  Nice thick coating of the corn meal coating. A quick lunch or dinner.

When I make up my pie dough, I always make a double batch, as I only make a one-crust pie.....so I will use the rest of the dough and make the little cinnamon and sugar "things".  I roll it out and sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar, roll it up and slice it into little circles and bake them.  A nice little homemade pastry for breakfast.  Also, lots of time instead of making an apple pie, as such,  I roll out the dough into a large circle and put it in a deep dish, letting the extra dough fall over the sides of the dish,  fill it will apples and just fold all the extra crust over the apple mixture.  Makes like a tart, I guess.  A lot easier than making a regular apple pie.

Hope everyone who is not feeling up to par this morning, will feel better and have a good day.   Our weather today is supposed to be up in the 70's.  I know that cold weather is on it's way,  so I will enjoy these special warm days as long as I can.

Joy

Gloria, I'm looking into Schwan's too, along with several others.  I had Tom look at their site and told him to take note of the quantities.  Tom has a habit of grabbing something regardless of size and I end up throwing half away often.  With Schwan some things serve 12, others four.  Tom often is gone around suppertime and I am left to fend for myself, which is no problem, but other than Mrs C's pot pies (esp Chicken Mushroom) I usually am not too fond of what we have.  It isn't that I am too picky, it is that there is a sameness with the taste.  I think pumpkin pies may be darker, especially if cloves are used as a spice.  It's been so long since I made a pumpkin pie that I forget about the spices:  ginger, cloves and cinnamon?  What my mother did with extra pie crust was similar to yours, Gloria, but there wouldn't be enough for big pieces and she'd just take what was there, sprinkle sugar and cinnamon on the pieces and bake them.  I've done it for myself too.

We didn't have any trick or treaters Monday and I have two bags of bite-sized candies.  If I open a bag, I'll eat the contents, so I'll let someone else open one.  Quantities again.  I didn't tell Tom we usually don't have any kids and I like to be prepared just in case, so one bag would have been enough.  Oh well, Tom helps me in so many ways, I won't say anything.

Joy, I'm not sure we'll get up to 70 today, but we are at 61 degrees now.  Several in our family get together for lunch each week and today is the day.  There will be only Tom, Terry, Dot and me so we're going to a sports bar where the food is good and the place is noisy!!!

I didn't expect to be gone so long, but you know how the time sometimes flies when you do errands and then have breakfast and chat with a friend.  I've read all the posts and now must do my nebulizer treatment.

I'm home from work but I have to scoot back to the store before 4:30.  One of my special working friends is retiring and today is her last day.  I want to take a little gift and a not to her before she leaves.  I'm giving her a jar of homemade black raspberry jam and a dishcloth that I knitted so she can remember me every time she does the dishes.  We've laughed together, griped together, had lunch together and compared notes on lots os subjects and I'll certainly miss seeing her!

After that, I have NOTHING planned for the rest of the day and that's exactly what I think I'll do!

Well I am home.tired. the worst pain so far was the shots the put in my face to deaden it. they covered my whole face except where they were working. a male senior doctor and a female doctor  and a nurse.
I told them they needed to put a mirror up so I could watch and see they were doing it correct. they just chuckled. I could here every word they said . the senior doctor was mainly guiding her and she was mostly doing the cutting. they put in a small bottle in salutation to send off for testing. said did not think it is can-curos though. they showed it to me it is about the size of a marble (medium size) have a great day .I am off to the couch for a nap.

Hi, all, another not so good day, so I am staying in, doing what I have to do. Taking the meds, eating enough to keep the body going, and just reading and resting. A scratchy throat, a tickle in the chest that keeps me coughing. So that is my story for today. Keep well, be happy, my Love to you all. June

Good Afternoon Everyone...
I was fortunate today to spend time with
my daughter Kelly,  her daughter Madison and Madison's daughter Fi.

We went "Good Will hunting"  (thrift shop),
then went out to lunch and on to get me
some groceries.    It was a good time had by
all.

Fi was great and we had a good laugh
about some believing that she was
naked  in that pumpkin..   (giggle)

She had her diaper on and
the whole pumpkin was covered
so that she did not get any
pumpkin on her  skin.

Except she did try to eat the pumpkin
(around the rim)  before they rescued
her.      She just loves to eat food.

All the time that we were  eating
lunch today,  Fi was sitting there getting
her share served up from her Mom.

Even though she has been
nursing for six months,  she love eat
real food.      Funny and cute.

So we had a great day  ...  All four
generations!!!

Have a good day,  Everyone ...
And June,  I hope that  you are
feeling better soon.

Hello Friends!  Today was one of those days that renews one's faith in the goodness of people.

One of my customers was an elderly (about my age) gentleman pushing his favorite lady in a wheel chair.  I spoke to her as I always do to those in wheelchairs.  She didn't respond and he told me that she doesn't speak and she has the beginning stages of Altzheimers.  They had quite a lot of stuff so I suggested that I might get a cart to put it in to take to the car, thinking that I'd get a stock person to help them out with it.  When it was all loaded, he said that he thought he could handle both the chair and the cart.  The people behind them in line was a lady and her grown daughter.  I heard them discussing something and the younger lady took off after the couple.  I looked at her mother and said, "She's going to help them, isn't she?"  Her mother nodded.  She checked out and her daughter wasn't back yet.  I said, "when you see your daughter, give her a hug for me and tell her she made my day special."  And she really did.

A few customers later, an older lady forgot a package and the next customer in line, grabbed it and ran after her to give it to her.  Two good people in less than half an hour and both of them in my line.  It's been a good day!

I forgot to say that the elderly gentleman told me his mother is still living, is 101 and lives alone and takes care of herself.  He said she tells everyone that she has to stick around to take care of her "little boy".

A sign of our times?
I went to a mall here in London where I had worked about 12 years ago as a Santa and where I hope to gain employment this year.
I was informed that they have not had a Santa for the past three years and when I asked why I was informed "political correctness." There were many complaints from the new arrivals in the neighbourhood about Christmas adornments---including Santa----so they discontinued it.  I pressed him further and asked, do you mean Muslims? He reluctantly said yes and added that the mall Christmas decorations will be at an absolute minimum this year.

I wonder if in a few years Christmas will be against the law.  :tickedoff:

it's my opinion (for what it's worth) that we are bending over backward to accommodate those whose beliefs are different than those on which our two countries were founded.  If there is to be equality, we deserve to have our beliefs respected also.  That's my soapbox and I'm standing on it!

My two cents worth.  These folks knew we were Christians when they came here and if they don't like our belief/customs then they can, as Amy said, go back to their country where they are king of the hill.  I could care less how they live or the customs they observe. So they can butt out of our business and our cowardly merchants better wise up.

PC be hanged.

Jane, sorry to hear about Lew but when the person is ready to go it usually is a blessing for them.  Sincere sympathy for the family that will miss him.

Mary Ann, I always secretly thought my husband married me because my sister would bake a
banana cake with 7 minute frosting for him all the time.  I did learn to bake it & make that frosting stand up & salute!  I don't think I even have a double boiler anymore.  I never had any doubt where my vote would go this time, I wasn't crazy about any or all of the people running from the beginning but from the start I liked the idea that "nobody" owned one person.

I started this when I woke up (today but seems like a week ago) but since I work my way from the last post of the day to "back where I've read before".... my thoughts are kind of scrambled.

Jane, love hearing about the good deeds in your line today.... I've gotten to where my heart just wells up when people (especially the young) show thoughtfulness & kindness, and, like you, I usually comment to let them know the act was appreciated.

Don, I am so disgusted with being "politically correct" when it is one sided and our so called majority seems to be getting the short end every time.  When you tally up all the minorities it turns out we have become the minority.  I'm ready to quit shopping any place that can't give me (I'm about as middle of the road/country/race as one can be)... a fair shake.

I'm with  you on that soapbox, Jane & Amy, let everyone go back to where they were born if they can't believe in the society that our long ago teachers called "the melting pot of the world".    We agreed on one language & respecting all religions, nobody was allowed to dominate or threaten a smaller group or community.

Jackie, I am on no schedule at all these days.  If I wake up hungry at 2:00 am or 4:00 am I fix me something to eat.  I have been taking naps during the day to make up for lost sleep.  Not getting a lot done as far as shopping or daytime activities but it will work out eventually.  The cats are sleeping outside at night while it is still warm, they are missing my walks to the river with them lately....  I blame the unusual weather for the sleeping problem.  This is the first summer I can remember that I didn't open doors for fresh air at night.... had to keep the AC running day & night.

We bought this house in 1988, I loved fresh air all my life so was shocked when we discovered only sliding doors open on the south side, no windows that open at all.  Have large windows and dark tinted storm windows over all, including the 5 sliding doors on the south, but the windows don't open.

Gloria, when my mother baked pies (all the time) she would make the cinnamon & sugar crust with the "scraps".... sometimes she would put shredded cheese in the dough & cut into strips before baking.... that was SO good.   I liked that better than the pies.  I checked for apples when in MO last week but couldn't find any orchards or farmers markets.

Joy, I like your idea of folding that extra dough back over the top of the pie.... I am going to watch for sales of Golden delicious, my favorite for apple pie.   I love hot apple pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top.  My mother always put the top on a pie with special cut outs to let the steam out.... & would flute it perfectly after she sealed the top to the bottom with a pat of milk.  Her cream pies were a French recipe that I've only tasted one other time, at a French bakery.... sadly, her recipe is lost.... she tried to give it to me but something lacking as it didn't cook up the way hers did, nothing like it.  She used lots of egg yolks & cooked in a double boiler is all I remember.   She didn't use a recipe so by the time she tried to write it down.... it had been too many years & nobody left that knew how.

June, do hope you get over that cold/bug soon.  Awful early in the season for this!

For all those doctor visits, God Bless & hope you are better for the treatments.  Hugs all around.

Hal, I'll join you in that BUTT OUT of our way of life!  So many come to this country thinking it is that land of freebies....  and don't consider that we pay extra on our hospital & doctor bills to cover for those that don't pay, that we pay higher taxes to keep schools open so their kids can have teachers able to speak the different languages.... and our teachers can't even ask if a child is in this country legal, parents don't care if their children attend if they are old enough to get a job, so we have to "dummy down" the classes so the poor students don't feel bad.  I am very negative tonight, tired and seems a constant crisis of house problems lately.  Got to find a plumber that isn't learning on the job..... in case the dripping/running faucet has a pipe behind the tile wall that needs to be replaced.  Used to be companies had experienced people that worked for them.... now we get a young kid that doesn't know as much as I do & that is pathetic!!!

Better get that last load out of the dryer, feed the cats their last meal of the day & get myself to bed.   Love to all.... Shirley

Good evening.  Just finished watching the Cub's win the World Series! Wow, miracles do happen!

Thank you for the kind words for my dad.  He had a rough day with dizziness and did go to his PCP.  They ran several tests and he has a appointment with a cardiologist on Friday.  He is very sore from the fall he had.  The blood pool near his armpit is very large but they do not seem to be that concerned about it.  He is just keeping ice on it.  I have not made a decision yet, but feel like I should go down there and be with him.

JUNE, I am sorry you are still feeling punk today....take care of yourself and rest as much as you can.

LLOYD, I am glad the procedure went well and I hope and pray that the little marble is benign. Hope you will not be too uncomfortable tomorrow.

Good to see your post, SHIRLEY.  Are you back from your MO trip?

Oh my goodness.....I have done it again.....got side tracked and forgot to get this finishes.

Good morning, JACKIE!

Pleasant dreams to all......

Guess I got some sleep in through the night, early hours of the morning, even if it was interrupted two or three times through the night doing a walk around check-up...2am, then again 3am, then up and about at 5.30am...I did go to bed 8.30 or was it 9.30pm when I dropped off...

DON....
...How disgusted I am that we are made to pander to the foreigners ways of life, while living in our respective countries..... Christmas is for the likes of us, we people should come first, we, that were born and bred in our own country, we have a right to our traditions.....If we lived abroad we would have to abide by that countries customs and traditions, wouldn't we? why should it be any different in our homelands...... Same happens over here....

Don, I hope you find your next Santa job...dont give up, there is one out their just waiting with your name on it...

Don, edited to add another crazy.....Link....

CHUCKLES

Military Time

My wife never quite got the hang of the 24-hour military clock. One day she called the orderly room to speak with me. The person who answered told her to call me at the extension in the band rehearsal hall.

"He can be reached at 4700, Ma'am," the soldier advised.

With a sigh of exasperation, my wife responded, "And just what time is that?"

Food For Thought

FORGIVEN FOREVER
(Author Unknown)

Lisa sat on the floor of her old room, staring at the box that lay in front of her. It was an old shoe box that she had decorated to become a memory box many years before. Stickers and penciled flowers covered the top and sides. Its edges were worn, the corners of the lid taped so as to keep their shape.

It had been three years since Lisa last opened the box. A sudden move to Boston had kept her from packing it. But now that she was back home, she took the time to look again at the memories.

Fingering the corners of the box and stroking its cover, Lisa pictured in her mind what was inside.

There was a photo of the family trip to the Grand Canyon, a note from her friend telling her that Nick Bicotti liked her, and the Indian arrowhead she had found while on her senior class trip. One by one, she remembered the items in the box, lingering over the sweetest, until she came to the last and only painful memory. She knew what it looked like--a single sheet of paper upon which lines had been drawn to form boxes, 490 of them to be exact. And each box contained a check mark, one for each time.

The story behind it..........

"How many times must I forgive my brother?" the disciple Peter had asked Jesus. "Seven times?" Lisa's Sunday school teacher had read Jesus' surprise answer to the class. "Seventy times seven."

Lisa had leaned over to her brother Brent as the teacher continued reading. "How many times is that?" she whispered. Brent, though two years younger, was smarter than she was.

"Four hundred and ninety," Brent wrote on the corner of his Sunday school paper. Lisa saw the message, nodded, and sat back in her chair. She watched her brother as the lesson continued. He was small for his age, with narrow shoulders and short arms. His glasses were too large for his face, and his hair always matted in swirls. He bordered on being a nerd, but his incredible skills at everything, especially music, made him popular with his classmates.

Brent had learned to play the piano at age four, the clarinet at age seven, and had just begun to play oboe. His music teachers said he'd be a famous musician someday. There was only one thing at which Lisa was better than Brent--basketball. They played it almost every afternoon after school.

Brent could have refused to play, but he knew that it was Lisa's only joy in the midst of her struggles to get C's and D's at school.

Lisa's attention came back to her Sunday school teacher as the woman finished the lesson and closed with prayer. That same Sunday afternoon found brother and sister playing basketball in the driveway. It was then that the counting had begun. Brent was guarding Lisa as she dribbled toward the basket. He had tried to bat the ball away, got his face near her elbow, and took a shot on the chin. "Ow!", he cried out and turned away.

Lisa saw her opening and drove to the basket, making an easy lay-up. She gloated over her success but stopped when she saw Brent. "You okay?",she asked. Brent shrugged his shoulders.

"Sorry," Lisa said. "Really. It was a cheap shot."

"It's all right. I forgive you," he said. A thin smile then formed on his face. "Just 489 more times though."

"Whaddaya mean?" Lisa asked.

"You know...what we learned in Sunday school today. You're supposed to forgive someone 490 times. I just forgave you, so now you have 489 left," he kidded. The two of them laughed at the thought of keeping track of every time Lisa had done something to Brent. They were sure she had gone past 490 long ago.

The rain interrupted their game, and the two moved indoors. "Wanna play Battleship?" Lisa asked. Brent agreed, and they were soon on the floor of the living room with their game boards in front of them. Each took turns calling out a letter and number combination, hoping to hit each other's ships.

Lisa knew she was in trouble as the game went on. Brent had only lost one ship out of five. Lisa had lost three. Desperate to win, she found herself leaning over the edge of Brent's barrier ever so slightly. She was thus able to see where Brent had placed two of his ships. She quickly evened the score.

Pleased, Lisa searched once more for the location of the last two ships. She peered over the barrier again, but this time Brent caught her in the act. "Hey, you're cheating!" He stared at her in disbelief.

Lisa's face turned red. Her lips quivered. "I'm sorry," she said, staring at the carpet. There was not much Brent could say. He knew Lisa sometimes did things like this. He felt sorry that Lisa found so few things she could do well. It was wrong for her to cheat, but he knew the temptation was hard for her.

"Okay, I forgive you," Brent said. Then he added with a small laugh, "I guess it's down to 488 now, huh?"

"Yeah, I guess so." She returned his kindness with a weak smile and added, "Thanks for being my brother, Brent."

Brent's forgiving spirit gripped Lisa, and she wanted him to know how sorry she was. It was that evening that she had made the chart with the 490 boxes. She showed it to him before he went to bed.

"We can keep track of every time I mess up and you forgive me," she said. "See, I'll put a check in each box--like this." She placed two marks in the upper left-hand boxes.

"These are for today." Brent raised his hands to protest. "You don't need to keep--"

"Yes I do!" Lisa interrupted. "You're always forgiving me, and I want to keep track. Just let me do this!" She went back to her room and tacked the chart to her bulletin board.

There were many opportunities to fill in the chart in the years that followed. She once told the kids at school that Brent talked in his sleep and called out Rhonda Hill's name, even though it wasn't true. The teasing caused Brent days and days of misery. When she realized how cruel she had been, Lisa apologized sincerely. That night she marked box number 96. Forgiveness number 211 came in the tenth grade when Lisa failed to bring home his English book. Brent had stayed home sick that day and had asked her to bring it so he could study for a quiz. She forgot and he got a C.

Number 393 was for lost keys...418 for the extra bleach she put in the washer, which ruined his favorite polo shirt...449, the dent she had put in his car when she had borrowed it.

There was a small ceremony when Lisa checked number 490. She used a gold pen for the check mark, had Brent sign the chart, and then placed it in her memory box.

"I guess that's the end," Lisa said. "No more screw-ups from me anymore!"

Brent just laughed. "Yeah, right."

Number 491 was just another one of Lisa's careless mistakes, but its hurt lasted a lifetime. Brent had become all that his music teachers said he would. Few could play the oboe better than he. In his fourth year at the best music school in the United States, he received the opportunity of a lifetime--a chance to try out for New York City's great orchestra.

The tryout would be held sometime during the following two weeks. It would be the fulfillment of his young dreams. But he never got the chance. Brent had been out when the call about the tryout came to the house. Lisa was the only one home and on her way out the door, eager to get to work on time.

"Two-thirty on the tenth," the secretary said on the phone. Lisa did not have a pen, but she told herself that she could remember it.

"Got it. Thanks." I can remember that, she thought. But she did not. It was a week later around the dinner table that Lisa realized her mistake.

"So, Brent," his mom asked him, "When do you try out?"

"Don't know yet. They're supposed to call." Lisa froze in her seat.

"Oh, no!" she blurted out loud. "What's today's date? Quick!"

"It's the twelfth," her dad answered. "Why?"

A terrible pain ripped through Lisa's heart. She buried her face in her hands, crying. "Lisa, what's the matter?" her mother asked.

Through sobs Lisa explained what had happened. "It was two days ago...the tryout...two-thirty...the call came...last week." Brent sat back in his chair, not believing Lisa.

"Is this one of your jokes, sis?" he asked, though he could tell her misery was real. She shook her head, still unable to look at him.

"Then I really missed it?" She nodded.

Brent ran out of the kitchen without a word. He did not come out of his room the rest of the evening. Lisa tried once to knock on the door, but she could not face him. She went to her room where she cried bitterly.

Suddenly she knew that she had to do. She had ruined Brent's life. He could never forgive her for that. She had failed her family, and there was nothing to do but to leave home. Lisa packed her pickup truck in the middle of the night and left a note behind, telling her folks she'd be all right. She began writing a note to Brent, but her words sounded empty to her. Nothing I say could make a difference anyway, she thought.

Two days later she got a job as a waitress in Boston. She found an apartment not too far from the restaurant. Her parents tried many times to reach her, but Lisa ignored their letters.

"It's too late," she wrote them once. "I've ruined Brent's life, and I'm not coming back."

Lisa did not think she would ever see home again. But one day in the restaurant where she worked she saw a face she knew. "Lisa!" said Mrs. Nelson, looking up from her plate. "What a surprise."

The woman was a friend of Lisa's family from back home. "I was so sorry to hear about your brother," Mrs. Nelson said softly. "Such a terrible accident. But we can be thankful that he died quickly. He didn't suffer."

Lisa stared at the woman in shock.

"Wh-hat," she finally stammered.

It couldn't be! Her brother? Dead? The woman quickly saw that Lisa did not know about the accident. She told the girl the sad story of the speeding car, the rush to the hospital, the doctors working over Brent. But all they could do was not enough to save him.

Lisa returned home that afternoon.

Now she found herself in her room thinking about her brother as she held the small box that held some of her memories of him. Sadly, she opened the box and peered inside. It was as she remembered, except for one item--Brent's chart. It was not there. In its place, at the bottom of the box, was an envelope. Her hands shook as she tore it open and removed a letter.

The first page read:

Dear Lisa,

It was you who kept count, not me. But if you're stubborn enough to keep count, use the new chart I've made for you.

Love,

Brent

Lisa turned to the second page where she found a chart just like the one she had made as a child, but on this one the lines were drawn in perfect precision. And unlike the chart she had kept, there was but one check mark in the upper left- hand corner. Written in red felt tip pen over the entire page were the words:

"Number 491. Forgiven, forever."

Thought of the Day

To forgive and forget is better than to resent and remember.

Good Morning everyone! Have a great day. I spent a very restless night,i think I was afraid of breaking the incision open. I  think they put strictures inside the incision but glued the skin to gather. they said not to rub or wash for a day or two. I used not to worrier but Nancy's attitude is rubbing off on Me.
Have a great day.
Bis I liked your thought for the day.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I also slept in and like Amy, I'll have to "put and egg in my boot and beat it"!  Or, as my school friend used to say, "I better get a wiggle on!"

I'm off to feed the doggies and then get myself dressed for a 9 o'clock appt.  After the appt. I'll be picking up TLH for the day.  Make it a good one Everyfriend!

Good morning everyone, a week ago it was freezing here and the geemogotchees were needed, yesterday we were in the low 70's. Sure not not normal weather for here. On Halloween the kids needed their warm jackets on.

LARRY  it does get tiresome when we do not get away from home for a few hours of a different view.

JOY  I never made only 1 pie, I would make at least 2 and at times 4. My family liked pies and I would rater make a pie than a cake. I made pies with a lot of different fillings.

MARY ANN  I forget how many servings in the coconut shrimp but I do know there are a lot more for me to enjoy. The Schwans pot pie came 4 to the box and they are the size of the pot pies you get in the markets. They have 11 1 serve meals and I did enjoy the turkey/mixed vegetables. Was more than enough for 1 meal for me, I could not finish it.

JOAN  glad you enjoyed getting out yesterday. Getting away from the computer for several hours is good for you.

JANE  very thoughtful of you to go back to WM with a gift for you friend as she retires.

JEANNE LEE  I did see the new graphic on the home page and thought it a wonderful one. Been a long time since we saw Ginny Ann in the PSP forum.

LLOYD it is weird when someone is cutting into you and you can hear every thing they say. Now for the healing and the prayers that it is not cancerous.

JUNE  do you have some honey? Take a spoonful of it and let it just dissolve in your mouth slowly. It really soothes a throat.

SANDY  it is fun to see a baby eating all food in reach. My daughter was like that.

JANE  does the heart good to see a stranger help someone.

DON  so sad that traditions five way to immigrants. They come into out countries and want what they left in their countries here. Those who have lived here for generations don't seem to count anymore. We once had a governor who refereed to the Christmas tree as holiday tree and at first did not want one in the capital  building but finally gave into the uproar and had the tree put up but would nt attend the lighting of it. He only served that 1 term.

JANE  I am on that soapbox with you. Used to be when one moved here they learned the language and a new way of living. Sad.

AMY  my thoughts, too. If you like your way of life so much go back where you came from.

HAL  that PC had caused more problems than it has helped.

SHIRLEY  last placed I worked we Americans were the minority. Must say though that the Latinos and Asians did speak our language and tried hard to get the words right. I have enjoyed orchard fresh apples since I moved her 66+ years ago. Some of the orchards have since closed and others like my son's have gone into business. Such a difference in flavor from what you get in markets. My Mom never had a recipe either, and didn't measure, a handful or pinch of what ever and she was a great baker and cook. Of course in those days she used lard for piecrust and it was tasty and flaky.

JACKIE  hope you get back to sleeping better.

JOAN  an Egg McMuffin would be great for a change. Forgiven Forever brought tears to my eyes. Terrible what being thoughtless can do. Thank you for all today's goodies.

AMY  glad you had an enjoyable drive yesterday.

Hi everyone on this Thursday morning.  It is to be another nice day here getting up into the low 80's this afternoon.

We had a nice dinner at church last evening, one which Scott thought was among the best he had eaten there.  Then he came to the house and we had a very nice visit.  He seemed to be over the down mode he had been in on Monday.

I seemed to stay very busy yesterday.  Today will be no exception as need to stop at Walmart for a prescription on my way to pick up my friend for coffee, will bring him home and then go back to the church for the Wisdom Class, which doesn't end until 12:30.  Then Pat has an appointment at 4 pm with the Chiropractor.  I am going to suggest that if she is up to it we go out for our evening meal.  I did watch most of the World Series game last evening but fell asleep and missed the 10th inning and had to check the news this morning to learn that Chicago won.

Joy, let us know about the pumpkin pie.  It sounds like it will be long gone before Thanksgiving.  :)

JaneS, those are nice retirement gifts as they were prepared or made by your hands.  There are a lot of wonderful, caring people in this world and you certainly encountered a couple of them yesterday.

Don, "political correctness" is going to be the undoing of all.  We see a lot of that occurring here in the USA as well although the last couple of years there doesn't seem to be as much evidence (at least that I see) surrounding the Christmas holidays.  I just can't understand why people coming to our countries seem to think we need to change our long followed traditions just to please them.  I agree with Jane's  and others comments.

Lloyd, those shots, like at the dentist, are usually the worst part while they are working and that is only momentary discomfort. Glad that is over for you.

June, do hope today finds you feeling better.

Hope everyone has a good day today.

Good morning, Gloria.  The weather seems to be fickle in many places.  I thoroughly enjoy the times I can get out with my friends.

Larry--Good morning.  You certainly have had a couple busy days.  That baseball games last night was a nail biter.

Jackie, I enjoyed all 3 links & had not seen the 105 year old before (my hero!) and had not ever seen the Willow sculptures.  I did similar type figures for a Nativity Scene.... animals & all.... long ago.  An American artist in Arizona did colorful creations that inspired me & right now my brain went blank, but I'll remember later & put in a link for you to see.

JOAN....
...Two pieces caught my eye, just perfect for what I need....I will soon tell you which two pieces they are, just not at the moment....just getting them in readiness...

Joan, I meant to have commented on your " Forgiven Forever " story....and yes, I read every bit of it.....

Good Morning Everyone,
from the cool and rainy,  rocky coast of
Maine.      After that nice day that
we had yesterday,  we are in for
a few wet days.

But the good news is,  come Sunday
thru long after the Election,  the
weather here is going to be very
pleasant  and dry ...  so it will
be easy for anyone choosing to vote
to get out to the polls.

Hopefully we won't have to blame the
weather for the way things turn out.

I went out and bought some pretty
blue lights to put in  the windows of
my corner apartment ...   Along with
a white Christmas Tree...       I do
love blue and white for the holidays ...

Soon we will be getting a gigantic
Tree put up in Monument Square.

People celebrate their holidays any
way they want to around here.   And
pride ourselves on allowing every one
to celebrate their seasonal holidays,
they way that they want.

Always have and hopefully always will.

'Tis the seasons to be jolly and joyful.
And allow others to do the same.

(I ain't so happy about Winter,  :ugh:
but  I have learned to live and make the
best of it...  :snowball: giggle ... !)

Have a great day everyone.

Good Thursday morning,  Joan and all this morning's friends.   I have been up for a while, but haven't got around to breakfast yet, so the Egg McMuffin will taste very good. I love them, but don't get to have them very often.  A nice change from my normal breakfast.

First,  Jackie,  I am very familiar with the Willow Tree figurines.  I have several of them, plus, I have the whole Nativity Set along with the "stable".  Over a period of several years, my daughter-in-law would give me the different pieces as gifts..... Christmas, birthday, etc.  It makes a lovely display for Christmas.   I love all their pieces.

Also, Jackie, I had seen the video of the lady who was 105,  and also watched another one when she was on the Ellen show.  Comments on that page mentioned that she had died at 107.  For some reason,  I had followed the website for the Direct Relief charity that she had volunteered at and had remembered that I thought I had read that she had passed away.  She was still driving at 105.  She was an amazing lady and certainly lived a remarkable life.

Larry, the pumpkin pie from Schwans is very good.  Since I didn't have a lot of extra room in my freezer, I baked it as soon as it came. It took a little over an hour to bake, and then, I was so hard waiting for several hours for it to be cool enough to eat.  I was able to have some for my dessert after dinner.  It is probably one of the best non-homemade pies I have ever had.  The filling is delicious and the crust was nice and flaky.  The only thing missing was the whipped cream.  :( The price was $6.49, which I think was reasonable.  I had another piece before I went to bed, also.  Since it is a seasonal item, I will get another one to save for the holidays.  By that time,  I should have a little more room in the freezer.  I had read the reviews on their website, and most of the ones who commented felt that it was a very good pie.

Gloria,  I usually keep pie dough in the freezer.  I never could make good pie dough until I got my food processor years ago.  Now, I follow the recipe that came with that.  In addition to shortening,  it calls for several tsps. of frozen butter.  I will make up 1 or 2 batches at a time.  It freezes very well.

I will have to try those coconut shrimp.  I have never gotten any of the whole meal selections.  I do buy ice cream sometimes.  When they first started coming to my place, there were quite a few residents who would buy from them.  Now, yesterday, I was the only one who had ordered anything.  Several people sitting outside yesterday mentioned that they stopped because so many of the items are so high in salt.  I don't have a problem about watching my salt intake.  I never add extra salt to anything, except what I use when I am cooking. And, I don't over salt what I make.

I hope everyone has a good day.

Joy

Joan,  you sneaked in while I was typing my message.

I see that you also have the Willow Tree Nativity set.  It really does make up a beautiful Christmas scene.   I used to have an entertainment center where I would put it at Christmas, but when I got the flat screen TV, I had to get rid of my entertainment center.  So, now, I don't really have a good place for it, unless I undo a book case  shelf for it.  I didn't even put it out last year.  There is a nice sitting area right outside my apartment that I and another lady decorate for the holidays.  There is a perfect table out there that it would look so nice on, but , of course,  we are not allowed to display anything religious outside of our own apartment.  Plus, there have been several times that little items have "walked" away. So, I guess, maybe there would be parts of the nativity set would might disappear at some point, also.  We have a nice fall display out there now,  with several nice bird houses sitting around.  Last week, one of those went missing.  So sad that those kind of things go on.

The smaller Willow Tree angels I have stay out all the time.  Our local hospital shop has a wonderful variety of them.  I really think they are very unusual and I love the ones I have.

Joy

Good morning!

I have seen the Willow Tree items for sale in stores where I worked and they are really nice.I used to have a number of Hummels and gave those away a few years back to my younger sister.

We have had that problem here with things vanishing off walls, tables, and hallways. Even whole plants ripped out of planters! The upshot is the cameras in public areas and a note on the first-floor common room's bulletin board  soon appears. It will say something about the cameras, mention it is known what happened and by whom, and gives a time period for the item's return before the name is made public and action taken. The item miraculously returns in place soon afterward.

There is one man who is well known for "borrowing" things and we tend to be aware of others here although I can't think of anyone publicly outed by the office as the threat seems to work.

Thanks Joan, when I lived close to the public areas, it was a great place to walk in the afternoon and evenings.

angelface--I just can't imagine taking something that doesn't belong to me, but guess many don't operate that way.  My sister had many, many Hummels.  When she sold her house two years ago and moved to Independent Living she sold them all since none of her children/grandchildren wanted them.

Joan, it is sometimes sad here. I gave away several palms and other large plants when I received Farrah as she could and did jump anywhere. Many of my plants were poisonous, but as my other cat couldn't jump, I had no issues. The plants were set out on the first floor in the lobby and nooks and crannies by the manager and staff. Within a week, all but my ponytail palm had vanished, and two plants were large, over five foot tall.

Soon the note went up on the glassed-in bulletin board, and people started talking. Two mornings later, all the plants were stacked in front of the manager's door. Since the security office is open all night, that must have been a humiliating return.

I also mislaid a nice fountain pen downstairs in the mailroom. Within the hour, a knock on the door and there was staff with my pen. Having the public cameras is a blessing for me and others here.

This week while they are replacing and readjusting the hallways lights and HVAC systems, they are also mounting carbon dioxide filters on the outside light casings every few feet for winter. This summer, they painted and recarpeted the public areas which was nice after living in so many places where that wasn't a priority.

I'm home!  My son called right before I left for the bank and said that Kiran was still sleeping and because last night wasn't a school night, she'd been up pretty late.  He wanted to know if I could come there and stay until she got up instead of picking her up at the store.  I went early to the bank for my appt and he waited until I got there.  She didn't get up until almost 11 and then we played a couple of games and she went and got dressed and we come home to let the doggies out and then had lunch at MickieD's.  I dropped her off at a friend's house for the afternoon.  And that's been my day so far.

I have 2 of the Willow Tree figurines also.  They were given to me for Christmas by a very dear friend!  I have the Friendship Angel and the Kitchen Angel.  The Friendship Angel sits in my living room where I can see it from many angles and the Kitchen Angel watches over my kitchen.  I love them both because they are lovely but even more because I love the FRIEND who gave them to me.

Jackie,  I'm so sorry to learn about Benjie.  Gentle hugs to you.

My Manger Scene belonged to my grandmother and some of the pieces may go back farther than that. The set looks its age but I wouldn't change it for the world.
One year, younger son decided that the cow should go on top of the manger.  His older brother would come along and huffily put it back where he thought it should be.  Younger one would wait a bit and quietly put it back on top.  This went on for the entire Christmas season.  Never did find out what younger son was thinking of in the first place.

Not much going on around my house this week.

Yesterday was so warm and humid that I was really dragging my heels. Then there was a nice rain during the night and today really feels like a Fall Day.

I did manage to stay awake long enough to see the exciting end of the World Series.  Really didn't have a preference - would have been happy for either team to break their long drought.  Congratulations, Cubs!

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere a pleasant evening.

halkel--Thanks for the link.

Hi Shirley.

Callie--I have an old, tattered manger and Nativity that my twin brother gave to use the very first Christmas we were married.  I cherish it and put that out, too.

My sister inherited the manger scene that I remember from my growing years.  I think her daughter uses it at her house now because Margie doesn't do a lot of decorating and Suzi's kids always loved helping to set it up....they still do.  Can't say that my kids wouldn't have enjoyed it as much but I'm glad it's still in the family.

I took a ceramics class early in my marriage and the first thing I made was a nativity set.  I was still using it up to 2 years ago but my daughter has it now and she cherishes it.  I just have a nativity family that I still put out...and sometimes it's still out in July.  That way, I know where it is when it's time for it the next year.

Time to go feed the doggies....and me!  Enjoy your evening Everyfriend.

Don.  Now I wonder if the reason they are trying to cut back on the Christmas decorations also is because even the people who enjoy Christmas. Santa, Shopping. Decorating etc.  are now getting a little tired of watching it get started even before Halloween. Lots of the big stores look already like what it use to take until after Thanksgiving. Think how it has changed for the kids. Seeing all this going on so early. Must feel like for ever to them for Santa to get to them.

I say cut back on the Commercial things that  they are doing which has spoiled the Christmas Season. Why even the Muslems may get to like the joy a little. After all very little religion seems to be attached to it now. Not able to do anything Christmas like  in the Schools. I use to love the School Christmas Plays why mine were young.

Around here it has been a few years since I have seen any of the churches putting things on their Lawns. Now ringing of bells on Christmas Eve.  To much on TV wanting to collect and do so much for the poorer families.  One is trying to collect so can give a child $250 to be able to buy for his family. Already  Police, Firemen  I know wanting to collect all  the money they can. I know one family ( Not that poor) who got 5 Full Turkey full Dinners just from lining up last year. No body is checked anymore. I remember when all that was done in the churches.
Look back on the Christmas times or years back. I think they were nicer times.

I look to be hearing Christmas music being played around the big stores with their Big Christmas Displays and Toy Dept. If they do have a Santa he will be in there around Thankgiving.
I would like to see you being him around Christmas time.  You were a perfect one.

Lighthouses

I live in Texas. I have two friends that are blonde and sisters. One day, they approached me and asked where the lighthouses were.

When I tried to probe a little bit, I was told, "Yeah, they're good paying jobs and have lots of ads in the paper, but we don't know where the lighthouses are to apply."

I told them, "There are no lighthouses in Texas. Let me see that newspaper."

Sure enough, there were ads for... "Light Housekeeping needed. Apply in person."

The Harvest of the Earth

By Joel Vande Werken
Scripture Reading: Revelation 14:14-20

Take your sickle and reap, because the time to reap has come, for the harvest of the earth is ripe.
Revelation 14:15
Though the harvest represents the climax of a season’s labor, it can also be a messy business. Grain must be separated from the stalks on which it grows. Fruit is gathered, washed, and separatedâ€"and to make juice for human consumption it is pressed and strained, and the peels and seeds are cast aside.
The Bible often uses the harvest as an image of God’s judgment on both God’s people and his ene¬mies. At the end of time, God will gather up our life’s work and measure its eternal value. Judgment may be favorable, for a crop worth preserving. Or it may involve destruction.
Judgment does not sit easily with us today because we ¬often operate with an “I’m OK, you’re OK” mentality. But the Bible reminds us that God is a holy God and that evil has no place in his presence. Does the abuse, violence, manipulation, and hurt in the world trouble you? There will come a time when all that has been inflicted on usâ€"and what we inflict on othersâ€"will be strained and cast out of God’s presence. Only the good will remain.
All of us deserve judgment. But those who trust in Jesus have the assurance that he has already endured the “winepress of God’s wrath” for them.
Praise God for this harvest hope, which is the only hope to which we can cling.
Righteous and just God, we know that judgment is a serious thing, because sin is serious. Thank you for the work of Jesus, which gives us a firm place to stand. We pray in his name. Amen.

Thought of the Day

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Our temps have been moderate for the past few days.  We had some heavy rain for a short time yesterday but right now it's 48º and heading for a high of 55 today.  I can take a whole winter like this but I'm sure it's not going to stay.

I'll be off to WM this morning.  I know I can't expect another day as good as Wednesday but I hope for happy customers.

I wish you all a good day in which you only have to do what you want to do and all your contacts are happy ones.

Hi everyone on another beautiful Friday in South Carolina.  Today will be COSTCO day as have a 10 am appointment there to see the eye doctor for my yearly exam.  I plan on picking up just a couple of items after the exam. Then this afternoon, if Pat feels up to it, she will go to the optical department to see about getting new lenses for her glasses and wants to look around as she hasn't been in a store for probably three months.  She will use one of the electric carts to get around so should be OK in doing this.  I will do some more shopping as we need to restock several things like meat for the freezer.  The housekeeper will be here this morning and the yard was done on Wednesday so things we will be back in order by the afternoon.

Joy, thanks for the comments on the pumpkin pie.  That price does seem reasonable.  However, I expect Pat will want us to make our own at least another year.  We have a can of pumpkin and she has a large selection of spices.

Joan, I am with you about taking something that doesn't belong to me. Patricia, glad your apartment building practice causes the items to be returned and they have the cameras.

Jackie, I do feel for you on your loss of Benji.  I expect most of us have gone through similar experiences with pets and it is never easy.

Jenny, I am sure your presence will be comforting for your Dad.

Good morning everyone, looks like our spring like temperatures are gone. 2 days of 70° were sure a treat at this time of year. Spent most of that time outside enjoying it.

LARRY  I do not like baseball but was glad to see the team win after more than 100 years.

JOAN  I know you used to go out with your friends often before you moved to Florida. Then you made new friends and you are a good friend to all who meet you.

JOY  I like the comments others made at the Schwans site. I had looked at the apple pie they have and I just might get one the next time I order. I don't use much salt but like you in cooking I do but never add more later.  I know a few people who grab the salt shaker and add to the food on their plate even before they taste the food. So far I have not heard of anything disappearing here. One lady has a collection of Christmas Angels that she sets up in the library every Christmas and no one ever touched them. Of course don't leave and food out of that will disappear.

PATRICIA wonderful photos. I remember how you used to walk all the time and all the photos you posted. Thanks for the link. There are cameras here in the hallways.

JACKIE  so sorry about Benji. I do know how you feel.

HAL  wish my apartment was on the other side of this building, I would be looking for that moon.

JEANNE P  I so agree with you about Christmas being so commercial now.

JENNY  my prayers for your Dad and you.

JOAN  blueberry pancakes and crisp bacon will be wonderful. Chuckles, talk about not understanding what you read. The Harvest of the Earth is a keeper. Makes me wonder ig that is why I always loved this time of year. I know I enjoyed my son's orchard at harvest time or going to the farm with the scent of things being harvested to enjoy. This is one to keep on my desktop. Thank you for all today's goodies.

LLOYD  I like pancakes but with blueberries in them I love.

JANE  hope your time at WM is at least half as good as Wednesday was.

AMY  I used to love driving through small towns at this time of year. There are a few just over the border in Conn. and Mass. That are old and historical and typical New England towns. Enjoy your drive today. Hmm a blue quilt, has it got my name on it?

LARRY  I am running out of some spices I use often. Will have to go online to Penzys and order what I need. They have really fresher spices than what one finds in the stores. When I see the large jars of spices for $1.00 I can only imagine how pure they are.

Time for me to get a move on and get something done.

Gloria--Good morning.  Maybe you'll get one more streak of nice weather before the snow flies.  I am sure you miss going to Mike's orchard.

Jenny, I'm so sorry to read about your father.... and so glad you are going to be with him.  I do understand about having parents so far away, mine were as well and it was so difficult to be two places at once.  I'm sure he is fearful about being in the hospital and will be glad you are there to hold his hand and make sure everyone takes care of him when he needs it.  Most hospitals are so short handed the nurses have trouble getting a drink of water or juice or whatever so family does help.  The many times Cas was in the hospital the nurses were grateful to have me "go fetch" and showed me the little frig where to get the Jello or juices, etc.  Give him a hug for me. My thoughts & prayers will be with you all.

Another nice day here, in the low 70s so "tolerable"...  ;)  .... I am ready for winter but so much to do first.  I went out yesterday to buy the candy to hang on the Christmas tree.... have 3 greats this year that will be excited about it.  My big kids always enjoy the sight (and taste)... I do restock quite a few times before it comes down.  Same old tree but every year it looks a little different because I come up with different candy.  Used to be able to get those long "pixie sticks" that had the colored sugar inside (remember all those penny candies of long ago?).... peanut butter logs & the ones that had about half a dozen little balls of candy coated chocolate in a long skinny bag.... of course lots of candy canes.

Got to get through Thanksgiving & all those birthdays first.  The next great grandson is to be delivered about the 20th.... think he was originally scheduled for the 29th so could make it difficult to get the family portrait.  Had to "photoshop" one of the adult grands in a year or so ago.... If nothing goes wrong the whole gang will be in town and we will move our turkey day to the Sunday before the actual Thanksgiving Day.  Must get busy, still have that water problem to take care of.  I cleaned the pool yesterday & this morning nary a leaf in it, guess the wind was just right to send those leaves somewhere else.  They are dropping all over this morning.  Have a great day where ever you are.... be happy!

Oh, my daughter gave me a pancake mix she bought online.... she thought she was buying just a couple bags & got boxes.... so shared.  They are delicious & I'm not a big pancake lover.  Will have to get the name for you, it is a higher fiber that doesn't taste yucky.  Gloria, you can plop those blueberries in & enjoy!  Okay, got the box but didn't look it up.  Pretty sure she got it from Amazon.  Kodiak Cakes 100% whole grains: Frontier Flapjack & waffle mix  .... whole wheat, oat & honey  (add water only)  Great for baking...recipes at:
www.kodiakcakes.com     & I'll go look it up 'cause I love 'em!
Edit: What I have is the original.... and I just noticed it says "for freshness store in 'frig after opening".  I have a box in the house & one in the RV.  Frankly, if you make a nice thin one it could be a "wrap" for an egg...

Haha, Joan, but I am fixing the turkey, dressing & gravy (all goes together, right?) and the day before I bake a turkey breast (some years it's cheaper to bake a whole turkey) to have that broth & drippings to make the "turkey & noodles" that my DIL grew up with.  It is a southeast KS thing, my best friend grew up in the same area & when I was shocked at people putting the turkey & noodles over mashed potatoes.... she straightened me up about it being the only way to eat a Thanksgiving dinner!  I howled about putting starch in noodles on top of starch in potatoes.  Now it is as important as the turkey itself!   Other years I also fixed a ham but not this time.  Every year I say this is the last time for me.... even sent the big stock pot home with my daughter last time but I asked her to bring it back for T-Day & she can take it home with her again after. Having the dinner at oldest gr-son's house since his whole basement is a big toy room so the kids can yell & run & only one adult at a time needs to ride herd on them.

I am cleaning off the top of the bathroom vanity & same time pulling stuff out of shelves & drawers to put in a couple big boxes to decide later what to get rid of.  My daughter buys lipstick that doesn't work for her & gives it to me.... our skin colors are completely different.  I have several boxes of lipstick, mostly Chanel at about $40 a tube.  I can't just throw stuff away.  ::)  She has a bad habit of buying things on the fly & never bothers to return if it doesn't fit or she doesn't like.  She looks forward to when she retires & has time to slow down, but I don't think she will know how to relax.... she's just like her father!

Back to business.... #1 son is going to stop by after his classes today to see if my "leak" is something simple or time to call in the plumber.  He was horrified at what these companies charge for a few minutes & will do what he has time for.  My clutter caused mainly by so much running lately, has caught up with me. Bring on the demerits~

Good Morning Everyone from the cool but clear rock coast of Maine..

Yes, as soon as
:angel3: She :angel3:  becomes our new President ,
we are going to have to get down
to the business of the Holidays.

I  have my decorations bought and
will wait until Thanksgiving to put
them up.

That just about does it for me ....
People have been complaining
about the
holidays being too commercial since I was a child....    Then,  Christmas's were HUGE with so many gifts that they didn't fit under the
tree,  but instead spread out all over the
living room.

I do not buy nor receive Christmas Presents now...  My family pretty much stop that a couple of years ago.     Of course, now
that we have a new baby,  in a
limited way gift giving will become
the thing to do,  and I suspect that we
will do some of it for  the new little one.

So for now the holiday music is nice
as well as the lights,  and those I will
enjoy for as long as I can.

The countdown is on...

Only four more days to go before we
can start complaining about the 2020 Presidential Election...

I hope that every one gets what they want.

Have a great day.
Sandy

A new experience today!

I've had a Handicap Parking card and used a Rollator for quite a while because of walking/standing difficulties. Even with that, I was dreading the lines at my polling place

Son who lives here called this morning to tell me he had voted early at the County Election Board satellite location here in town - and that there was a designated area for people like me. So I decided to try my luck.

As directed, I pulled into the entry turn-around and a worker came to the car, checked my i.d, got signatures, etc. - took those inside - and brought out a ballot. I marked it in private and then, as the lady who helped me instructed with a smile, "waved it out the window" when I was done. One of the workers picked it up - and away I went.

In and Out in 20 minutes. There were 4 cars in front of me and a growing line behind me. The walk-in line was 2-3 people deep around 3 sides of the very large church.

What a GREAT service - and much appreciated.

Oh, June - I do hope and pray that your low sodium problem is solved PDQ.

Shirley,  my Mother's family was from southeast Kansas and I'd never heard of noodles on mashed potatoes!!!!
One year in Colorado, another family joined us and she brought Green Chili casserole, which was traditional in her Arizona upbringing.

I've been told where the family is gathering for Thanksgiving and know that somebody will "fetch and carry" me.  Also know that I'll take cornbread dressing (nobody else makes it and my blood-kin can't do without it) but think I'm going to announce "retirement" on making the chocolate dessert.  May replace it with cookies.

Miss Ellen will not be here but is planning to come home for a week at Christmas.  Sounds as if she could have friends in New York to celebrate Thanksgiving with.  Don't know if she/they will try to "experience" the Macy parade in person.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere healing, comfort and a lovely day.

Callie--Different places--different customs.  I had never even heard of cornbread dressing until we moved to Arkansas.  Tried it the first year, and my family didn't;t care for it.  We stick to our bread dressing.  What a great service that drive up voting is.  I mailed my ballot.  This Thanksgiving will be a new experience for Miss Ellen.

Joan,  my Mother and grandmothers made bread dressing.  I knew about cornbread dressing and had eaten it - but didn't learn to make it until I married a Mississippi native.  Same with fried okra and black-eyed peas (although I chose to make Hoppin' John with rice).  However, I drew the line at turnip greens and told him he'd have to go to his Mother's for them!!

Joanie, Polk Salad was a family tradition when I was growing up.  The family all got together and we would walk the lane to my Grandmothers house and gather it, including us kids.  Cooking it was done carefully, first boiling, water was poured off and discarded and boiled the second time.  I liked it as a kid, guess because I helped gather it.  It grows wild around where I grew up.

Hal, I did a Google & am right about having a "poke plant" in my flower bed!  For sure, but wasn't until just now.  I knew it was familiar but didn't know what when it got the little berries on it.  My mother loved any kind of cooked greens because she couldn't eat anything raw.  I was a picky eater & being the last of 5, got away without tasting anything/everything, except peanut butter & jelly, meat & potatoes.

Callie, I drew the line on "fried green tomatoes".  He tried to explain what it should look like & my skillet was such a mess when I got done that was the first & last ever served in our house!  I'm surprised your mother didn't fix the turkey & noodles.  One time we stopped at a KFC near the MO/KS state line that had the buffet.... and they had turkey & noodles to put over the mashed potatoes!!!  Always tried to stop at that KFC from then on but they don't have a big parking lot & not an easy out for a big rig.  I have a delicious recipe for green chili from a long ago friend raised by her Mexican gr-mother.  I make it to go over cheese enchiladas.  Good stuff~

Nobody in my family liked turkey so Mother would roast (or bake?) chickens.  They were always that perfect brown & so nice & tender.... and she made "stuffing" from scratch (I use Pepperidge Farm herb).  She made the fresh cranberry salad with oranges & walnuts... (that I didn't eat) & plenty of veggies.  She was a great cook & "back in the day...." went to cooking schools every time one was offered.  Usually she took me along & I sat on a chair without moving the whole time (for fear the chair would fold me up inside).  Mom was always lucky about winning the door prize.  This was before WWII started.

Good news, son had me shut the water off & checked the faucet, discovered the whole inside was bad so we went to Ace Hardware & found just what was needed & no more leak.  Got a spare because they were so much better quality than the ones we'd bought before from a different store.  I stuck a $100 bill in his pocket & in spite of his protest, convinced him I wouldn't let him know when I needed help next time if he didn't take it.  I'm sure a plumber would have charged at least double that & since I didn't know one, probably would have gone ahead & tore out the whole wall & cost more like $5,000 before done.

Cats got fed well & I'm thinking about falling asleep early.  Probably be watching Blue Bloods through the eye lids.  On Thursday ION (on antenna) has Blue Bloods all day long... only present day show I watch.  OH... this is Friday so I don't get re-runs.  I vote on voting day.... just stand in line & visit with the neighbors.  My mail in ballot is on the table but with all the fear of things going wrong, I'm thinking of asking for a paper ballot instead of the machines.  Terrible feeling when you can't trust anyone these days.

QuoteOh Hal......

It seems that you are insinuating Canada is
full of losers???      Gosh.

We here in the North get along very
well with our Canadian Neighbors.
We already share a 983 km (611 mi) border with them.

So I forgive your insinuation.....
(but I am not sure that they will. )
:crazy2:

poor wording on my part.  I was referring to all the Democrats who say they are moving to Canada if Trump wins, hence the use of the word "losers".

Thank you, thank you, all from the bottom of my heart, I am overwhelmed, I have counted 15 people that have responded, re, the loss of our Benji...... To say I - we are heartbroken is an understatement.....I am finding the early mornings are the toughest, this home is now so very empty....I miss Benji's greetings, he was always such a happy dog, always happy to see you, with his tail wagging, and would always tilt his head sideways to pucker up for a kiss, you only had to say to him...." kiss, kiss " and you would get one.....

Benji sealed his fate on the day...although he still gulped down his food, ( with 3 times over a 5 week period did he bring up all of his food ) and he still was eager to go out for his walk with R, although at times he did struggle...but on the sad day he had done nothing but pacing, from 5.30am when I got up, to the time we took him, 5pm, pacing in and around the furniture, the length of our home, from lounge to my far bedroom, not once would his now cancerous heavy back part of his body would allow him to rest in his bed, we just couldn't allow this to go on, 11 & a half hours of non stop pacing...as I told R he will do this till his body becomes weak and he will go down, that is what he did later in the day, yes he picked himself up, but still continued to pace....Throughout the day I had desperately tried to get him to settle in his bed, if only he had done so, he would have safeguarded himself another day with us.....Benji as far as were aware had not lost weight, infact the kidney diet food we had to put him on had bulked up his weight, adding to the now large anal cancer lump which was now making it harder for him to get out any toilet, you could tell by the flat and dented shape his toilet had now become as he tried to get it out, but this was now his cancer lump he was now trying to get out......so we knew two weeks ago that the growth was now doing its damage...his back end was becoming heavy and was starting to weigh him down, on occasion had tilted or gone down, plus his body was more twisted when in his bed, and took him some time in getting up and about... but on the whole when he was out for his short downhill walks he was still in his element, you could tell that was the place he was happiest to be, I have never ever known our Benji to turn a walk down, not even to his end....

Food For Thought

I am a Soldier in God's Army
(Author Unknown)

I am a soldier in the Army of my God.
The Lord Jesus Christ is my Commanding Officer.
The Holy Bible is my code of conduct.
Faith, prayer, and the Word are my weapons of warfare.

I have been taught by the Holy Spirit,
Trained by experience,
Tried by adversity
And tested by fire.

I am a volunteer in this Army,
And I am enlisted for Eternity.
I will either retire in this Army at the Rapture
Or die in this Army;
But I will not get out,
Sell out,
Be talked out,
Or pushed out.

I am faithful,
Reliable,
Capable
And dependable.

If my God needs me,
I am there.
If He needs me in the Sunday School,
To teach the children,
Work with the youth,
Help adults
Or just sit and learn.
He can use me because I am there!
I am a soldier.

I am not a baby.
I do not need to be pampered,
Petted,
Primed up,
Pumped up,
Picked up
Or pepped up.
I am a soldier.

No one has to call me,
Remind me,
Write me,
Visit me,
Entice me,
Or lure me.
I am a soldier.

I am not a wimp.
I am in place,
Saluting my King,
Obeying His orders,
Praising His name,
And building His kingdom!

No one has to send me flowers,
Gifts, food, cards, candy
Or give me handouts.

I do not need to be cuddled,
Cradled,
Cared for,
or catered to.
I am committed.

I cannot have my feelings hurt
Bad enough to turn me around.
I cannot be discouraged enough
To turn me aside.
I cannot lose enough
To cause me to quit.

When Jesus called me into His Army,
I had nothing.
If I end up with nothing,
I will still come out ahead.
I will win.

My God has and will continue
To supply all of my needs.
I am more than a conqueror.
I will always triumph.
I can do all things through Christ.

Demons cannot defeat me.
People cannot disillusion me.
Weather cannot weary me.
Sickness cannot stop me.
Battles cannot beat me.
Money cannot buy me.
Governments cannot silence me
And Hell cannot handle me.
I am a soldier.

Even death cannot destroy me.
For when my Commander
Calls me from this battlefield,
He will show death who's in charge.
I am a soldier in the Army,
And I'm marching claiming victory.

I will not give up.
I will not turn around.
I am a soldier,
Marching Heaven bound.

Here I stand!
Will You stand with me?

Thought of the Day

"In vain I have searched the Bible, looking for examples of early believers whose lives were marked by rigidity, predictability, inhibition, dullness and caution! Fortunately, grim, frowning, JOYless saints in Scriptures are conspicuous by their absence! Instead, the examples I find are of adventurous, risk-taking, enthusiastic and authentic believers whose JOY was contagious even in times of full trial! Their vision was broad even when death drew near! Rules were few and changes were welcome! The contrast between then and now is staggering!"

Good morning everyone..

I hit the floor running thinking I had slept in!!Rushed and got dressed poured our tea then sat down at the computer to see the time was an hour behind what I thought it was. Well, I am ready for the day. :2funny:

We had a great day out yesterday, enjoying the country side then having lunch before heading home. Hubby had a snooze on the way home but that is normal for him.

Today, we are off to the farmers market in the city, meeting up with son and daughter in love there then out for brunch.
Have to take pants back to Costco  and hope they have the right size.

Hal, I understood the meaning of your comment,no need to explain

Joan, thank you for breakfast..

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good Morning Everyone!
Well this week is about gone.  We have one of the twins coming over this morning to stay with us while his brother plays basketball.  But he is a good boy, usually, and give him an IPad and he will sit for hours doing puzzles and playing games.  He may be autistic but he certainly isn't dumb.

Thank you Amy, knew you or Don would know what I meant.  Bet hubby enjoyed getting out and about.  Just the two of you enjoying the day.

I hope June had a good night.  I hope she gets back into the routine of things rapidly.  She will be missed with her words of encouragement.

Joanie your food for the soul was really good this morning.  I enjoyed every word of it.

Anyhow, coffee should be about ready.  I will meet you out on the patio, it is just about the right temp for comfort.

Jackie, time will heal the loss and the memories of the happy times will comfort, of course people may wonder why you have that funny little smile on your face.

Good morning halkel.  Glad you enjoyed today's "Food For Thought".  I have twin great nephews who are 11 and autistic.  They have never spoken a word, but are a whiz with the iPad.  I'll join you for coffee.

Good morning, Lloyd.  Glad you did well with the mask.

I hope Janie is OK.

Hi everyone on this Saturday morning.  It looks like our high this afternoon will be 71 degrees but sunny and no rain.  I did go to my eye appointment and found I needed new lenses and that the cataract in one of my eyes had grown quite a bit.  I made the decision to go another year before dealing with it.  However, to replace the lenses they have to send my current glasses off for about a week.  Since that isn't going to work for me I had to purchase a new pair of frames and will put back my old ones, which I got last year, as a spare.  For some reason I was tired the rest of the day and really didn't accomplish anything else.  Nothing on the schedule for today other than to clean and fix up some fresh vegetables and plan for dinner tonight.  I know we are going to have ham and acorn squash and if I don't run out of energy I will make up some coleslaw.  I am looking forward to watching some college football this afternoon although I see that South Carolina doesn't play until 4 pm and Georgia plays at 7:30 PM.  So my afternoon rest period shouldn't be impacted by football.  :)

Gloria, my wife recently made a Penzys order so we are well stocked again.  She has so many different spices, some as free samples from Penzys, that it is an adventure trying to find a particular spice in the cabinet.  Fortunately they are on a turntable in a corner cabinet so that helps.

Joan, unfortunately Pat wasn't feeling up to the afternoon trip to COSTCO yesterday so maybe she will get there next week.  We are getting a double whammy on the glasses as she also needs a new pair and has the same problem of having to send hers off.

Shirley, you are getting an early start on Christmas this year.  I am sure we won't do much in the way of decorating but will want to do some.  She has some angels and Christmas figures, including the manager scene, in a cabinet that is easy to get out.  I do remember penny candies and a nickle bought a nice little sack of candy to take home.  We have never had noodles with mashed potatoes and doubt that we will ever do so.  Glad your son was able to diagnose and fix your plumbing problem.

Sandy, as you indicate the little ones certainly enjoy Christmas.  We had the joy of one Christmas with our great grandchildren but probably never again.  We do not Christmas shop anymore unless Pat finds an item or two online to buy.  We give money gifts to the granddaughter and great grandchildren and their father.

Sandy, I bet within a matter of a few weeks after the election the race for 2020 will start or certainly the speculation will begin.  I think we will all be glad when next Wednesday comes around and I hope there is a definite winner so the outcome won't be in doubt or be forced to the Congress should there be a tie in the Electoral College vote.

June, we will miss your upbeat comments until you are back in your apartment and up to posting again.  That is certainly a problem you don't want to fool around with as it serious.

Callie, where we voted in Georgia they had a special line with anyone with a handicapped drivers license to needing special consideration.  I am pretty sure all of our votes in the future will be by Absentee Ballot.  That sounds like a great system in Oklahoma.  What will the lines be like on the 8th?

Lloyd, glad to see the CPAP worked for you last night and you feel better today. Did the VA give you a chin strap to keep your mouth closed at night?  My wife recently got one but doesn't use it every night although it does help with the dry mouth as she is a mouth breater.   I started using a different head gear with mine and now don't get the air leakage around the nose pillow as I often did with the other one.

Amy, I haven't been able to buy pants at COSTCO as they never seem to have a 29 inch inseam so the 28 is too short and the 30 is too long.

Hal, glad your grandson enjoys the iPad and can be entertained with the puzzles and games.

Good morning everyone, a frosty one here. More normal than we have been having.

JOAN  I think my son misses being in the orchard again this year.  Thanks to the gypsy moth caterpillars that stripped his trees of leaves and buds. I know he had many repeat customers and the last 2 years there has been no crop, next year will be none either because there are no buds forming.

SHIRLEY  I heard of that Kodiak cakes from my daughter. She bought it at Costco. Her menfolk all liked it. I would like to have some but know I would not be able to make them.

HAL  hope that check book balances right.

JUNE  hope your care facility will work for you instead of a hospital stay. Prayers for you.

CALLIE  what a wonderful way to be able for you to vote. I'm glad to have the mail in ballot.

JOAN  my Mom made her dressing with hamburg and potatoes, she called it French dressing. My MIL made chestnut dressing and I love it. Used to get 4 pounds of chestnuts for the dressing. Now with the cost of chestnuts they would cost as much or more than the turkey.

SHIRLEY  I make the cranberries with oranges and walnuts and it is always a hit. I do love my fresh cooked cranberries and will cook a couple of bags  when they first come out and put in small containers and freeze. Always great anytime I have chicken.

JOAN  I'll pass on the western omelet, only one I like is a cheese omelet. Still a picky eater. Chuckles so often some of those things have happened.  Great Food For Thought. Thank you for all today's goodies.

AMY  glad you and Hubby enjoyed your drive yesterday.

HAL  would love to join you for a cup of coffee.

LLOYD  glad I do not breathe with my mouth open. I often wonder how people who do not breathe through their nose make out in a dentist chair. At least the dentist I go to knows not to put the chair all the way down because then I start choking. Have to sit up some.

LARRY  I have all my spices arranged alphabetically.  Makes it easy to find what I want. Like you I want to wake Wednesday and find out who is the new president. Then will know if I am happy or in dread of the next 4 years.

Good morning, Larry.  Too bad Pat didn't feel good enough to go to COSTCO yesterday.  Quite an expenditure with you both needing new glasses.  Enjoy those football games.  I'll flip channels and find something to watch.:)

Gloria--Good morning.  Your son sure has had bad luck lately with his apple orchard.  I've heard of chestnut dressing but never potato and hamburg.

Good Morning Everyone, from
the cool but sunny,  rocky coast of
Maine.

Hal....  I know that you misspoke and
really do love the Canadians..    I believe that you live there for a few years,  right?

I also know that EVERYONE is a little
bit "whack a do" right now...
Fortunately the end of this craziness
is just a few days away.

And for that we are all very
grateful !

I got up at 5AM this morning  and started
in on my back room and have thoroughly
cleaned it out and organized what little is
left.

I took a mess of stuff down stairs to
give to the   thrift shop and low and
behold, it wasn't open !!!    So I had
to drag it all back up stairs again..
(boo hoo) ...  But Monday Morning I
will take it down again.  I am getting
rid of allot of the "stuff" that I used
camping in my van when I drove
cross country in 2011.

I never use it,  nobody wants it,
so I am getting rid of it.

I worked for about 5 hours arranging,
rearranging and saying good bye to
my stuff  and right now I am really tired
but a weight has been lifted off
my shoulders.

Oh happy day!
:wave2:
Now to sit back and watch
some TV...

Have a good day,  EVERYONE!
Sandy

Just heard the test sirens go off, as they do every Saturday at noon sharp  unless we're actually under a storm warning,
So I will say "Good Afternoon".

I think this must be the first year to offer drive-up voting for handicapped.  I'd never seen it mentioned before but an article in this morning's paper mentioned that all the precinct voting places (at least in the larger counties) will have it next Tuesday as well.

The article said almost 112,000 people in Oklahoma had voted early on Thursday and yesterday.  DIL went to do so this morning and posted pix of the line around all four sides of the church, up the driveway and the entire length of the big parking lot next to the driveway.   Early voting closes at 2:00 p.m.  I don't know how that's handled for those in line.
Edit:   She posted that it took her 2 hours and 57 minutes to get in to vote - but she made it!

It is not a nice day for standing outside, either - cloudy, chilly and a bit damp.   I went to the Memorial Service for a friend's husband this morning and am glad  I'm now "in for the duration".

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere a Good Day.

Jackie, lovely photos of your Benji over in Photos.  I think he is a Cocker Spaniel but any I have seen in the US have "docked" tails.  Same with the Dobermans..... docked tail & ears, but I read that isn't allowed in dog shows in the UK.  My Doberman as a child was pure bred but didn't have docked tail or cropped ears and didn't look nearly as mean.  I talked to a couple breeders at a show here about buying one un-altered but they wouldn't consider it.  So I didn't bother taking their cards.  Benji has a beautiful tail showing in that one photo.  I know you are struggling with the relief that his pain is over but it is a terribly empty day without him.

Gloria, have you got one  of the small skillets ... light weight & I discovered a perfect size for small pancakes.  So much easier to handle.  I pour 1/2 cup of water in my 2 cup measuring pitcher & pour it into a fresh coffee cup, then put the same amount (1/2 cup) of the flapjack mix into the measuring pitcher, pour the water back in & mix with a fork.  Makes 3 pancakes & that is all I can eat.  I put real butter on them & Mrs. Butterworth.  Pretty good & bet you could handle the small skillets.  I always used a big one before & surprised at what a difference it makes.

Sandy, I know we are on different sides of the fence this election and sorry I have such a dread about this year.  I have registered as Democrat, Republican & voted many times for an independent candidate.  I am convinced the people behind the parties are corrupt and feed on the power they have without us even knowing who they are, and we don't vote for any of them as a person but by party.

My main fear is that a deal was made with Bernie Sanders, at least he was honest enough to declare himself a Socialist, anyone that doesn't have a clear understanding of what that term means should do their research, that he will have a big say in how the country is run.   It is a fact that "a time of dictatorship must be in place" to achieve the ultimate Socialism.  Workers won't work when others sit and get the same benefits.  Both parties are out of control spending and over spending.  Most of us have lived on a budget & will until the day we die, so should the people that run the government.

I know you would like to see a woman as president..... I would not like her as a role model for my grands or great grands.  We have a man running for office in KS that I dearly love to watch his commercials.  Not a word has he said about the person running against him.  His wife made one to compliment his achievements & at the end he "approves the message and still crazy about the messenger".  His son also made a commercial for his father & Dad shows up to approve and loves the messenger".  Only kindness from this person and I heard he graduated top of his class at a military academy.  How I wish he was running for President.  This isn't the place for politics and I'm just making an observation of the facts as I see them.

Like you, Sandy, I'm dragging out stuff & taking to the DAV or Goodwill and will be so glad to have room to dust again.  I'm bad about throwing things away, carry over from those WWII days when we saved everything.

Must get back to work.  I love the cooler weather, wish Mary Poppins would show up & snap her fingers to put everything in place..... my eyes are calling for sleep.

I keep checking to see if there is any more news of June.  I Googled her sodium problem and it is scary how many things can go wrong with our bodies that I never thought of.  Hope she gets her treatment & it works so she can come make her joyful posts again.

SHIRLEY...
....yes this home is so empty, for me the early mornings are the worst when I get up and I cant find him...I still get up very early, yet have nothing to get up for....and then when R brings Toby back from his walk, our - my Benji would come straight looking for me, so happy and I would often get another kiss....Benji is - was a Springer X Collie....we - I bought him from a farm, his parents were farm dogs...I chose him as a puppy because he had the shiniest of coats of which he kept until his last...I cant fault him he was the perfect dog, a bit funny with other dogs but loved all humans....very affectionate but was never a lap-dog.....I miss him so much...the pain so hurts...

Good evening....
As Jane would say I am all in but my boot laces...we had a fun but tiring day. Lots of vendors at the market and we had a delicious brunch afterwards.

I did a load of laundry and hung it out to be dried in no time..the weather is perfect, can't believe how warm it is for this time of year temp is 50° F at the moment.

Larry, hubby takes a 28 leg so that means shortening them .I would rather make a quilt than do that job but I will do it!!

Amy, my husband was a REAL Tennessee guy .... "ridge runner" they are called, and had one leg not quite half an inch shorter (or longer, which ever way you look at it  ;)  ) & wanted his trousers perfect.  None of the stores would alter the legs different lengths, they would alter but I had to make it right.  Since I always had to shorten everything I wear it isn't a problem.

My sister came through Wichita years ago, after visiting a long ago friend... that showed her "how the professionals hem slacks".  So happened I have an old Brother sewing machine that has a zig-zag stitch....  it takes several stitches forward & then a zig (or zag).  It is all in the folding of the pant leg.  If anyone wants the method let me know, hard to explain without my hands waving.
