Chuckles
"I'm Fine!" Farmer Joe had an accident and decided his injuries from the accident were serious enough to take the trucking company (responsible for the accident) to court. In court, the trucking company's fancy lawyer was questioning farmer Joe. "Didn't you say, at the scene of the accident, 'I'm fine'?," questioned the lawyer.
Farmer Joe responded, "Well I'll tell you what happened. I had just loaded my favorite mule Bessie into the..."
"I didn't ask for any details," the lawyer interrupted, "just answer the question. Did you not say, at the scene of the accident, 'I'm fine'!"
Farmer Joe said, "Well I had just got Bessie into the trailer and I was driving down the road..."
The lawyer interrupted again and said, "Judge, I am trying to establish the fact that, at the scene of the accident, this man told the Highway Patrolman on the scene that he was just fine. Now several weeks after the accident he is trying to sue my client. I believe he is a fraud. Please tell him to simply answer the question."
By this time the Judge was fairly interested in Farmer Joe's answer and said to the lawyer, "I'd like to hear what he has to say about his favorite mule Bessie."
Joe thanked the Judge and proceeded, "Well as I was saying, I had just loaded Bessie, my favorite mule, into the trailer and was driving her down the highway when this huge semi-truck and trailer ran the stop sign and smacked my truck right in the side. I was thrown into one ditch and Bessie was thrown into the other. I was hurting real bad and didn't want to move. However, I could hear ole Bessie moaning and groaning. I knew she was in terrible shape just by her groans. Shortly after the accident a Highway Patrolman came on the scene. He could hear Bessie moaning and groaning so he went over to her. After he looked at her he took out his gun and shot her. Then the Patrolman came across the road with his gun in his hand and looked at me. He said, "Your mule was in such bad shape I had to shoot her. How are you feeling?"
It was then that I said, "I'm fine."
Food For Thought
The Realm of Rituals
(By Jonathan Cahn) When you lose the fire, the zeal, and the first love of your faith, you'll often find yourself living in the realm of rituals...doing the right things, praying, going to service, worshiping, saying the right words, even abstaining from sin...but doing it no longer from your heart, OR from passion and love for God! Then you've entered the realm of rituals! Is that you? If so, then get back to the heart of worship, the heart of praise, the heart of serving, the heart of ministering, and the heart of obeying, the heart of repentance, and the heart of loving Him! For God doesn't want you to waste your life in the realm of rituals, but to come back to the realm of Him!

JOAN...
...good morning, you know I am approving Phyllis's teatime graphic? ;) :)
Good Morning everyone.

Lloyd
LLOYD HAMMOND...
...we must listen to our own body, as no-one else can hear it....I am sure Otherfriends would have given you the same advice, re couch was your place to be yesterday...
Vanilla-Jackie--Good morning. I was sure you'd like the graphic by Phyllis for this week.
Good morning, Lloyd. I sure hope you are feeling better today.
Good morning everyone.
I shall be off to the hospital again today..so far he is still in ICU as they don't have a bed yet on the other floor. This is a good thing as he gets a constant nurse with him.
Yesterday when I went down to the city there was a bad accident, someone went off the road into a very deep ditch wiping out numerous guard rails.
Phyliss love your graphic, looks likes plox in the bouquet.
Joan thank you for breakfast.
Enjoy your day everyone.
Good morning, Amy. GREAT that your husband is getting such good care. I hope there were no fatalities in that awful accident you saw.
Power is back on for us. Out most of the day yesterday. Neighborhood to the east of us still has none. Limbs, trees are down everywhere. Flooding all around. 4 deaths reported so far. We had 7 inches of rain here and to the south of us they had 14. Still windy but the sun is coming up. We have days and days of clean up work to do. I'm tired but David and I are OK.
Good Morning Everyone!
Phyliss happy to hear you weathered the storm with just limbs and debris. I know you must be really give out with the stress.
Lloyd happy you also feeling better.
Got to get ready for church. Talk to you later.
Good morning, Phyllis. I was one of the very few who did not lose power. Thousands in my county are still without it. Like you, there's lots of debris to be cleaned up. I am very glad you and David are OK.
halkel--Good morning. See you after church.
AMY...
...sending my regards to your hubby....
PHYLLIS...JOAN...
...I sense your relief that you both came out of the hurricane in one piece...even if the damage outside shows otherwise....I feel very saddened to hear the high death toll figure of 900 in Haiti, those people didn't stand a chance......
Hi everyone on a beautiful cool and sunny Sunday morning here in South Carolina. A lot of our State has been adversely affected by the Hurricane and now some areas are facing flooding as the recovery period starts. Today will be my usual Sunday with Sunday School and Church and then picking up something to bring home for lunch.
Yesterday Pat had a very good day, which made two in a row, and wasn't even using her walker. She helped me with a couple of things in the kitchen, including stuffing the peppers that I made the filling for using cauliflower rather than rice with the meat, sauce and spices. They cooked on low all afternoon and were very good. She was able to sleep in her own bed last night rather than the easy chair but she isn't up yet so haven't had a report on how well she slept during the night.
I will limit comments today as have less than an hour before needing to leave for Church and still have to fix Pat's breakfast.
Phyllis, I was thinking about you all and Molly when I heard of the tornado warnings. However, I see it didn't prevent the football games being played in North Carolina yesterday in all of that rain. That is a lot of rain. So glad you had no serious damage.
Joan, I had totally misunderstand thinking that your oxygen was dependent on power. However, certainly glad you didn't lose power with all of the outages up and down the Coast line.
Sandy, thanks for the compliment. I am just glad I have been able to pick up the slack and it is good to learn to do new things. So far no cooking disasters.
Amy, good news on your husband. Hope you are getting some needed rest. When will your husband be coming home?
Patricia, that is the kind of report I was hoping for from your eye appointment. I don't think I have ever met anyone before who has been to the North Pole.
Phyllis, what a beatific graphic. I love flowers.
Good Morning,
Continued good thoughts for those affected by the hurricane. News emphasis is now on the flooding. Hope none of you are affected by that.
Amy, continued good thoughts for your husband's recovery.
Lloyd, so sorry you aren't feeling well. Take care of yourself.
Larry, so glad to read that Pat is feeling better. I like cauliflower and rice doesn't like me so it's good to know about that substitution.
I'm somewhat of a cranky grump this morning. My morning paper was not delivered and I don't see one on any of the other driveways. I called the report line and got a recorded message that I should call later because of phone line problems. Whatever! :tickedoff:
Onward and Upward. Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere a Good Day.
Good Morning Everyone...
It is rainy and cool here on the rocky coast.
I believe that the remains "Matthew"
are paying us a visit, but of course,
now it is just breezy with lots rain.
Knowing that cooking was not your forte ,
Larry, I was very pleased (but not surprised)
to see that you again stepped up to the bat
and are continuing to do your very best.
So glad to hear that Pat is starting to feel
better, and that you are doing well.
Joan, how fortunate you are to be one of the
few who did not loose power, while
most others in your area, did.
I am wishing everyone a safe and good day.
Sandy
:coolsmiley:
Phyllis, What a delightfully inviting Tea table. I feel I should be wearing a fancy hat and white gloves. The flower arrangement is lovely. Thank you !!!
Phyllis dear, I had no idea you were in such danger from that hurricane. Our prayers should have followed the weather to your home. Thank God there was no great damage to your home and your selves inside it.The work outside can wait till you feel settled down.
Lloyd, I am happy you had the good sense to take care of yourself yesterday, and I pray you will do the same today. There is nothing…NOTHING.. as valuable as your health.
Hal, have a good Sunday, you are starting it out nicely.
Larry, Bless you for all you for your dear wife. You are turning into a true Chef in your cooking. I would never have though of using cauliflower in place of the rice. I'll bet it was tasty, and certainly original.
Callie, I find that Google has a pretty thorough section on News. Between the computer and the t.v. I no longer take a newspaper. They have many in the main building and more in our building in the lobby, so once in a while I look at one.
Bis, God has heard our prayers, and I am thanking Him. Hope Joe made it home safe and sound.
Time for me to have some breakfast and then get ready for Church and a quiet Sunday.
Good morning, EVERYFRIEND!
Thank you, JOAN, for our goodies this fine Sunday. So happy to read that everyone so far has come through the storm with minimal damage. The stress that you all were under though must be horrific. Do hope Joe arrived home safely to his family. I, too, sure am glad that he was able to be there with you as you endured the storm.
I have only been in one hurricane while at our beach cottage in Panama City Beach, Florida. I could not sleep for wondering when it was going to hit and what we would all do. One year we ended up heading north to Birmingham in the worse traffic jam! Had to take our rental car and of course needed to change our flights, etc., and it was quite the fiasco.
AMY, so good to read that hubby continues to do well. Understand your thoughts about the care he gets in the ICU. Seems these day everyone has to wait for a bed.....no wonder they are building so many more hospitals. Hugs to you today.
JACKIE, I, too, really like Phyllis' graphic today.....wish we could all gather at the table this morning and enjoy that setting together.
Today is 15 years since the PA Bash in Williamsport. What a delightful time we all had. I am sad to think how many of our friends have passed since that Bash.
MARK, etal had a safe drive to Gallup New Mexico yesterday, where they spent the night. They went through a very bad hail storm close to the end of the drive that they sure could have lived without. They are on the road again this morning and hope to be at their new home by early afternoon. I will be so relieved to get the call that they are there safe and sound.
LARRY, your Falcons are here playing my Broncos today. I hope it will be a good game without injuries! I sure enjoyed reading the kind words that Sandy had to say to you regarding the way you have stepped up to do what you could to fill in while your sweet lady was convalescing. Those of us that are blessed to have partners that will do this certainly are lucky. Sure happy to read that Pat is doing so much better. Please give her my best.
LLOYD, Happy to read that you are feeling much better today.
HAL, we are headed down your way, to Austin, on Tuesday this week. Looking forward to warmer weather.....it cooled off quickly here this week and we even had to turn on the furnace.
CALLIE, I am sorry those newspaper people made you have to be grumpy this morning! Shame on them!
Enjoy your Sunday, EVERYFRIEND! I do hope we will hear from JANE today and that all is well with her!
I see you are up and about Sweet JUNE.......ðŸ'—
Jenny
Good morning everyone, I was a slug a bed this morning, slept till almost 9:30 but did not get to sleep till 2am so guess that is OK. Had to finish a book I was reading. The rain we are having is from Matthew, tells you how huge that hurricane is.
JOAN glad you do not have to rely on electricity for your oxygen. I don't know one kind from another about how oxygen works.
JEANNE time for a housekeeper so you can take life easier? I know, easy for me to say, $$$ is always the problem with that.
HAL a true southern gentleman, you paid your debt to Callie.
AMY glad you checked in. Prayers continue for your DH.
PATRICIA could be that friend likes a faster pace of life. She would die of boredom in this town.
PHYLLIS beautiful graphic for this week, love it.
JOAN a breakfast buffet is great for a lazy morning. I'm Fine, who could blame that farmer after what the patrolman did and having the gun still in hand. Good quote. Thank you for today's goodies.
LLOYD hope you take it easy again today.
AMY safe travels to the hospital.
PHYLLIS glad you and David are OK and the worse is over there.
LARRY amazing what a person can learn to do when needed.
Good morning from seven am on a still dark Interior! I am so glad to be back sleeping normally again if only for two nights so far. Farrah has been fed; I have my ablutions done, and coffee poured, so it's a good day beginning!
Larry, you are having quite a success in the kitchen, I know both you and Pat are pleased!
Joan, you were so lucky re Matthew and Joe coming to stay with you!
Phyllis that is a beautiful teatime graphic! You and David were also lucky in Mathew's case. The entire east coast was expecting much, much more so you must feel as if you dodged a bullet!
Amy, it is always hard to have a partner in the hospital, but you know he is in good care!
Good morning, Sandy, Hal, June, Gloria and all those coming later!
Vanilla-Jackie--People in Haiti live in devastation--sad.
Good morning Larry. I am so glad to read that Pat is feeling so much better. Now flooding is taking place in some areas up your way.
Callie--Good morning. I am cranky if I don't get a paper, too. Guess you'll have to resort to reading the paper online.
Good morning, Sandy. At least all you are getting is rain and breezes.
June--Good morning. Joe made it home just fine. He called me when he got there.
Good morning, Jenny. As you can see above, Joe had a safe trip home. It was great that he took the time to come and be with me during Matthew. I hope Mark arrives at this destination without any problems.
Gloria--Good morning. There's different ways of delivering oxygen--some require electricity, some don't. Good you were able to sleep in after a late night.
Angelface--Glad you are back to a regular sleep pattern. I sure know I was very lucky.
Good Morning Pat !!!
I feel very fortunate to only be getting
rain and breezes, JoanFl !!
Larry, unless Patricia did go to the real North Pole, I think she visited the town/city of North Pole which is (I think) SE of Fairbanks. I have been there on a tour and they have a huge Christmas store there, complete with Santa Claus. I think I bought a sweat shirt.
Dot and I did our usual this morning, church then OTB/L. Tom drove for Uber last night and went out again after I got home this morning.
It was chilly in church this morning and I'm glad I wore my lightweight jacket.
Mary Ann
Hello all.Hoping that Matthew has left you unharmed and unscathed.
Mary Ann ...
How does Tom like driving for UBER?
How is it working for him?
Sandy
Sandy--Yes, you are fortunate.
Mary Ann--It's nice that you and Dot continue going to church and out to eat together.
Hi Radioman. All I can say is that I thank the Lord Matthew is done with us here in Melbourne.
MaryAnn, you are right. North Pole is a Christmas obsessed town. All the street lights and poles are painted to resemble candy canes, and the locals there do a booming business, one of the oldest of those doing so nationally, of answering Santa's letters and a huge Christmas store of mass produced, price enhanced Christmas goods. Outside is a pen with live reindeer and every effort made to capitalize on a Christmas theme.
The originator of all this Christmas cheer named all his children Christmassy names which they all promptly changed upon adulthood. He even applied for a name change to Santa Claus which the judge thankfully declined. However, as cynically outspoken, as I've been, he did create a city, and brought in settlers, and built a mystique that continues to this day. A sort of P.T, Barnum if you will.
As to the original North Pole, I believe there are two, one true north and one magnetic north and yes you can get there from here!
Patricia, I doubt the true North Poles are tourists destinations, at least not like the town North Pole or Santa Claus IN, however, I am sure there are those who venture to the true Poles just to say they did it.
Sandy, Tom likes driving for Uber because it is different. He is limiting his driving to Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights unless there is something big going on in town. He has a map of the area where he can see where there is the most traffic and he can go to those areas and check in. Those areas pay more then outlying areas. The customer contacts Uber in town and Uber contacts Tom, tells him where the customer will be. They also let the customer know what kind of car Tom is driving and how long it might take him to get there. The customer is charged to his/her credit card and it is not necessary for Tom to carry any money. Most customers do not tip, but the money is greater in the areas where there is the most traffic. He has some interesting conversations with some of the customers, but he also has some drunk customers, including young college age girls. But by the customer paying up front on their credit card, the drivers do not have to worry about dead beats. Tom has had some no-shows, but very few. The company pays Tom when the ride is completed..
Mary Ann
MaryAnn, I know that about the poles. I was jokingly alluding to the fact that commercial airlines flying over the polar route fly one of the world's busiest routes and Anchorage and Fairbank's airports derive most of their business from those European flights.
Newspaper was in the driveway when I left for church. Found out from the OTL bunch that it was a city-wide thing, including OKC. There's only one major newspaper for the entire OKC metropolitan area and the printing process has been moved to Tulsa. The OTL Ladies ( you know, the ones who solve all the problems ;D ) decided the truck was probably late getting the papers back to OKC. We shook our heads thinking about what the situation will be during our brief but intense winter ice times.
Settling into the recliner to read the paper should keep me occupied until time for the Sunday night t v shows.
It's a Good Day!!!!
P.S. Patricia, I got a small souvenir Christmas ornament in North Pole Alaska.
Good afternoon, on a very rainy day, with wind gust to 40per. To day was to have been our big country fair, which is now said to be the largest in NYstate. I still have my red and blue ribbons I have won, in years gone by. the last time was two years ago. I have won on my paintings, embroidery, also some plastic canvas, Never did any bakeing for it, some of my friends have won on their cakes.
First I will be happy when we hear from Molly and Jane.
I also hope Johann came throguh safe and sound, I talk to her Friday, and they were going to stay in their home.
Phyllis, so glad to see you and David are ok, with little damage. I also like Teatime. thanks
Joanof course we were all happy you had your son with you, and you are safe.
Lloyd, glad to see you are feeling better.
Chef Larry, so good to read Pat is feeling better. Now you take it easy.
Amy, a big hug to you, and prays still go to you hubby.
Patricia, I was going to ask you, if you saw Santa's workshop, but you answered the question, and as always your good discription of the town. :kitten:
Callie, I would be upset if I did not get my paper, I like to have my coffeee, hard roll or bagel OJ and just take my time and read, from cover to cover.
SAndy, love the new picture.
MaryAnn, that Toms job, sounds like it could be interesting.
Gloria, I think we are going to have the same type of weather.
June and Hal  also Jackie and Jenny
Mary Ann--I've never had the opportunity to use Uber so it's interesting to hear how they operate.
Callie--Glad you did finally get your paper.
Linedancer--I guess you are getting the remnants of Matthew. Wonderful that you have won ribbons at the fair.
Mary Ann, I've heard a lot about Uber drivers but never took the time to read about what they do/mean. I like that idea and can see where it would be great to have in an area of older people that don't drive anymore. My mother's neighbor gave up their car when her husband died (she never drove) & had a special cab driver she called any time she wanted to go places. Mother took her to Garden Club, etc, but the other lady was very independent about getting around. On the other hand, we've had some horrible cab drivers, especially when out of town & called for rides to the airport.... have a feeling they sent drivers with the worst reputations just to give them work & knew out of towners wouldn't be repeaters anyway. Uber drivers could establish long term customers, I would think, and companies could arrange for drivers for their own people when on business.
Larry, nice to hear Pat is doing better and I'm another that will sing your praises for taking over so many duties around the house. That's what it's all about, pulling together, right?
Phyll, your tea time is beautiful.... Glad everything still working for you. I have not figured how to even set up work space with the 2 newer versions of Paint Shop Pro so quit trying. The original one I have is for XP & works on Vista but says not compatible with this laptop that converted to Windows 10. Learned that Toshiba is being sold & warned their "warranty" might be iffy at this stage. I did get the Vista computer back on but been busy with outside work so haven't messed with PSP.
Amy, any idea how long they will keep your husband in the hospital or if he will need re-hab stay or daily? I do feel for you, 'tis exhausting at best, trying to keep everything running at home & the running back & forth. Hugs to you, and a little prayer every time I think of you.
Not sure what's going on with my computer, e-mail seems to be hit & miss & my posts have come & gone in here.... starting to look like it may be moi not working right, you think? :crazy2: :uglystupid2: Best wishes to all.....
Callie, I still haven't turned on my furnace but got a little nippy the last couple nights. I hate that smell & want to be able to open the house the first time, 'till the dust bunnies are blown out. Need to go vac the pool, I dipped out a lot of neighbors' leaves while ago, such a pain~
Joan & all East coast folks, a sigh of relief that "we" came through as good as possible. My sympathy for all the clean up that follows. We "pick our own poison"..... of where we live. Tornadoes are almost common around here and now Callie is rocking the boat with OK earthquakes, but so far only damage we've had is needing to straighten pictures on the walls nearly every day. Have not seen any foundation damage at my house. Hugs to all.
Good late afternoon,
Glad to read that everyone seems to have weathered the hurricane pretty well. I still have not heard anything from my grand daughter, who lives in Pawleys Island, SC. She and her boyfriend did go up to Charlotte, NC, but have not heard whether they are still there or have gotten back home. I have another friend, in Hilton Head, and I know they went to a hotel further inland, with their 4 cats. Late yesterday, they had not had the ok to go back home. Have not heard anything from her either. So, I guess I am playing the "wait and see" game.
Patricia, when my son worked for the Defense Dept. he called me one night and said "Mom, I am at the North Pole". And, he was literally at the actual North Pole. He had something to do with satellite tracking and they had a base at the North Pole. He had been hoping to be able to see the Northern Lights, but I guess it wasn't the right time for them. He was there for several days.
I am sure the little towns named after the Christmas holidays are nice to see. Similar, I guess, to Hershey , Pa. where the street lights look like Silver Kisses and most everything is related to "Chocolate". Fun and tasty place to go to.
It is a pretty sunny day here after several days of being dreary and rainy, except for the wind. And, I am sure that is from the remains of the storm. Down at the Maryland beaches, it hasn't been a very nice day.
Today has been a very lazy day. The Raven's football team lost their 2nd game in a row. Not a very happy day for all those fans. I watched some of it and then had a nap.
Had a nice day yesterday, One of my nephews got married on Friday and they had a big family party yesterday. Nice to see some of the family that came from out of town. Was a fun party at a local restaurant near me. Good food and good family conversations.
Almost time to think about dinner. I am thinking about putting the heat on for a little while to take the chill off. Our weather is changing and starting to get cool in the mornings and evenings. Hate to think about the furnace running almost fulltime.
Have a good evening.
Joy
I'm spending most of the TV watching on the Weather Channel. The winds have calmed down, but the rains and floods are bad.
I think the Uber drivers can be asked for as taxi drivers are. People have complained about the taxi drivers that sometimes it takes 45 minutes to arrive. I do think the taxi dispatchers ask about the customer's time limit so do try to get them to their destination on time, but if it isn't a rush call, it may take some time.
Tom takes time to get his car washed often and he keeps the car gassed up.
We have a possible frost warning for tonight, although the forecast is for 40 degrees. I have brought in a couple of plants but I am putting my amaryllis in plastic grocery bags on the deck so someone can carry them downstairs for the winter. I'll have to check periodically to see if there are any stalks showing.
Mary Ann
Shirley--Seems no matter where we live there is some type of natural disaster that could/will occur.
Joy--Hope you hear from those that you are worried about. The party after the wedding sounds like it was enjoyable.
Mary Ann--Sure hope you don't get any flooding. Sounds like it might be time to turn your furnace on.
Joan, I doubt we would get flooded from the Grand River, but in 1986 September, we had rain every day of the month and the water in our pond got to within two feet of my patio. We have had hard rains since, but nothing to compare with that time.
I have had the furnace on for some time. It didn't go on every day or night, but it has had the capability. When it has gone on, it has been to take the chill off the condo.
Mary Ann
It is still raining here, supposed to stop around midnight. Also have a cold front coming from the north, already down to almost 50°, possible into 30's over night.
JOAN glad Joe made it safely home. He must have driven straight home without stopping. I sure did not do much of anything today, raining too much to go out for a walk. Went down to the library and got another book. Could not find anything interesting on TV and tonight is sports and then the debate.
GLORIA de we are lucky here, we did not get ay wind to speak of. I was looking at the trees and they were hardly moving at times. On the news they said the Cape and Islands were getting some 40mph wind gusts. The October fest was this week end in one city and they were rained out today. On town has a big art festival this week end and they also were rained out. Tomorrow should be better for their last day.
SHIRLEY I use PSP 12 ultimate. I have 13 and 14 but do not like either one. Vista was on the last PC I bought and I disliked it, pre-ordered 7 and have been using that since it's release. My iPhone wants to upgrade to 10 but I will not let it.
MARY ANN we have already had frost and the heat in the building was turned on early. Usually not done till October but I think the maintenance man turned it on early because of the cold. It was on a Sunday night and the manager does not live on the premises but he does. I have turned it up a couple of times in the morning to get the chill out. Mostly I leave it at 65.
Think I will close down early and see it anything on cable looks good. I am disgusted with both candidates so doubt if I will watch.
Have a good night.
Back from Church. We had a very enthusiastic speaker this morning. He is only 34 and is Director of Student Ministries at his Friends Church. He will return again next Sunday. I'm looking forward to hearing him again.
Lunch is being served at this time, but I like to go in a little later. They have Prime Rib or Artichoke chicken. I will have the chicken...something different to try. I eat very little beef anymore. Then I will come home, put on some loose clothes and just relax for the rest of the day.
I came in to leave a new post, and find I have not entered the one I did before Church. Looks like my mind has taken a leave of absence again.
Oh my goodness, LARRY. MY Broncos looked terrible today and now your Falcons have beat them. So much for our winning streak! It wasn't just our back up quarterback not doing well, but the rest of the team as well!
MARYANN, we have never used Uber here in Denver, but other family members have. We did use them several times when we were in New York a year or so ago. We have had very good expierence when using them as have our family members. Sounds like a good job for Tom and I hope he does well at it.
Mark, et al have arrived safely in Arizona and they look forward to getting the key for their new home tomorrow so they can start the move in process. They are SO excited.
GLORIA, good to read they have turned on your heat. I feel the same about our candidates but will probably watch them to see for myself how it will go.
SHIRLEY, you might be needing that heat soon, so hope you can find a day to let it run to get the "stink" out! We have run ours three times...one evening and a couple of mornings. You have so many things that need your attention.....glad I do not have to do the leaf dipping out of the pool. Try not to be overdoing it!
JOY, I have had a few of those FUN calls from my boys as well, and it sure is nice.....not many will have one from the North Pole though.
GLORIA de, I did see on Face Book that Johann and Windel came through the storm with out much problems as well. Sure is nice to see they have the ability to check in as did JOAN and BEVERLY.
Good to read your newspaper did arrive, CALLIE.
Time to get started to gather the trash for the week..... I have done quite a bit of cleaning things out this week so the cans are going to be full.
Pleasant dreams to all.
Jenny
Jenny, Uber is not Tom's regular job; he has a job and does Uber on the side. It is a way to make more money and if he can get into the higher paying area, he does make more. Neither job will make him rich!
Gloria, I don't know when I first turned on the heat, but it was a chilly morning and I turned on the heat to take the chill off. When the temperature warmed up enough to open the doors, I turned the heat off so it wouldn't go on unnecessarily. I have the thermostat set at 72 degrees. My living area is on the north side of this building and when the wind is from the north, it is too cool in that part of the condo.
While I have an inside unit, the north side of the living area is not insulated good. I had frost on the paneling in the family room when I moved here and the builder took off the paneling and added insulation. The living area upstairs would have to have the wallboard removed and I am not sure I would have wanted to go that route. My gas bill on budget is $36 a month and I'm not complaining!

Food For Thought
So is My Word
By Joel Vande Werken
Scripture Reading: Isaiah 55:6-13 As the rain and the snow . . . [make the earth] bud and flourish . . . so is my word that goes out. . . .
Isaiah 55:10-11
Harvest is the conclusion of a long process of growth. In the spring, farmers plant seed in the ground. Over the course of the summer, God provides water and sunlight, causing the seeds to sprout and grow. Then, months later, the crop is mature, and the grain or produce is ripe for gathering.
Harvest is a time of celebration. As long as crops are in the field, they are vulnerable to damage from disease, animals, and harsh weather. But when harvested, the fruits of another year’s labors are safe.
The prophet Isaiah compares the work of God’s Word in our hearts to the growing season and the harvest. Just as it takes time for a crop to mature, so also it takes time for God’s Word to become established in our hearts. Some crops have a long growing season; others take less time to ripen. But the process of growth continues in each case. When we seek the Lord through his Word, when we turn to Christ in repentance and trust, we begin to see the Spirit’s work of bringing faith and hope to maturity in us.
Where is God bringing a harvest of righteousness in your life? Give thanks for the growth you have seen in this season and for the signs of God’s Word at work in your life. Also pray for continued spiritual growth and ¬maturity in your and ¬others’ lives.
Heavenly Father, send your Word into our hearts. Bring us to maturity. Weed out that which is sinful in us, and bring us joy in the work of your Spirit. Amen.

Good Morning Bis good to see you . I am going back to bed c you again later.
Lloyd
Good morning everyone. Well I did watch about the last half hour or so of the debate but the more I hear both of them the more I want to write in the name of someone else. Her I trust as var as I could throw her and he thinks he is the best of anyone.
JENNY glad Mark and everyone arrived safely in Arizona.
MARY ANN the side of the building I live on faces south/southwest. Gets really hot in here in the summer and in the winter I seldom turn the heat up above 65. Heat is included in the rent.
LLOYD your link will not work for me. Looks like I am not in the audience that is allowed.
JOAN good morning, bacon and eggs will be wonderful. Bacon crisp and eggs over east so I can dunk my toast in the yolk. Chuckles, I have a granddaughter that was like that. Glad she outgrew that. Thank you got today's goodies.
Am not up early, have not been able to fall asleep yet. Think I will try again.
sorry folks I do not know what to do but as soon as I can get help i will get them posted, the farther and the little ladies is posted in Facebook, also mother Hugh and cristal
LLloyd
Good morning everyone.
Have a fire going to chase away the chills.
Thank you all for your kind words, hugs and prayers.very much needed at this time. He may come home tomorrow...they won't let him out till he can walk better than what is . He still has wires and tubes coming out of him so I would say when he has been disconnected for a time then he can leave. The staff has been awesome..
Happy Columbus day to you..
Joan thank you for breakfast.
Enjoy your day everyone.
Good morning, Lloyd. I hope you are back to sleep by now.
Gloria--Good morning. Sure hope you can get to sleep and have a good rest. I watched about the first 15 min. of the debate and quit.
Good morning, Amy. I pray your husband is soon well enough to be released.
The housekeepers come today so I have a bit of picking up to do.
Hi everyone on a chilly morning for us here in South Carolina. It was 58 this morning with a high of 72 predicted for the next couple of days with clear skies. So this week is starting out great.
I did get to Sunday School and Church but we decided to eat somethings we had here rather than to bring something in. I listened to some of Don's radio program and then turned on the TV and watched Georgia beat South Carolina in the make up game that had been cancelled on Saturday due to the storm. I then watched the Atlanta Falcons game as they beat Denver without too much difficulty. Pat had another good day yesterday, which is so encouraging. While she is not without pain she at least is not crying out in pain when she moves a certain way.
Callie, you actually couldn't taste the cauliflower in the stuffed peppers due to the seasonings and how long it was cooked on low in the crock pot. However, it was very tasty and we have one stuffed pepper left over. I am glad you finally got your Sunday paper as don't want you to be cranky.
Sandy, hope it is not still raining up your way.
Patricia, interesting story about the town of North Pole.
June, I have a really long way to go to be called a Chef but thanks for the nice remarks. Pat did not want the rice in the stuffed peppers and it wasn't missed in the end product.
Jenny, know you are relieved that the trip has been completed for the move of Mark and his wife. I hope their moving in goes well. It wasn't Denver's day on the football field yesterday and the Atlanta Falcon's are looking pretty good so far this year. As you say it is a team effort and while a play or two may be picked out as the cause of a loss there was 60 minutes when others on the team could have made a different the the final outcome. Enjoy your trip to Austin. Thanks for mentioning that Johann and Windel came through the storm in good shape.
Lloyd, as Gloria indicted it appears only certain people would be able to see that Facebook page and therefore the link wouldn't work for others who are not in the allowed group as you are. Obviously you are special.
Amy, it sounds like progress in recovery is being made by your husband. Time does wonders.
I did watch the debate last night and it was like no other debate I have ever seen. I see the bricklayers have arrived across the street to do the brickwork on the house across the street. They certainly have a nice day to do the work.
Joan, our church will be sending a team to help with some of the recovery from the Hurricane and the flooding.
deAngel, I expect there were many disappointed folks who worked hard to get ready for the fair and those who wanted to attend. I also hope we hear from Molly and Jane soon.
Shirley, Pat has had to carry the load for us both numerous times as I have dealt with my heart situations. I am glad I am now able to take the burdens off of her and have generally felt like doing it. When I get tired I sit or lay down for a little while and regenerate some energy.
Mary Ann, nice that Tom can select the times he wants to be available to provide the Uber rides. Our house is feeling a bit chilly this morning but hope we don't have to turn on the furnace yet.
Good morning, Larry. The local weatherman on TV said this morning is the coolest we have had since May. I stepped out on the porch, and it sure felt nice. GREAT that Pat continues to feel better.
Good Morning Everyone!
Larry, it is a mite chilly here this morning. I turned the ceiling fan off when I got up. But it will warm up as the sun rises. Believe it is suppose to get into the 80's.
Wife and I went to Texas Roadhouse late yesterday afternoon and had some ribs for our supper. Brought home enough for a meal today. They, as usual, were falling off the bone good.
We watched the debate last night and it finally all hung out, I am surprised it took so long for it to surface in the debates.
Amy, happy to heard DH is progressing. Hopefully he will be home in short order and up and about. I know having to drive to hospital is more than likely a chore on it own.
I watched most of the Dallas game yesterday. The new QB is looking really good. Romo may have a problem getting his job back.
Gloria, bet you like the sunny side in the winter time. And you got the a/c to cool things in the summer. My house faces WNW and we get the afternoon sun on the front and side and it can really heat things up. My old a/c does get a workout. But my patio and back yard gets lots of shade.
Joanie, thanks for breakfast. I guess today will see folks really starting to clean up after the storm.
Coffee is ready, who wants a cup?
well I am sorry the link doesn't work for you all' I highlighted the address on Facebook and copped and pasted it then after posting it I clicked on it and it opened for me I thought it was OK. as soon as i can get help here i will post. they haven't named them yet one weighed 5 lbs and the other was 1 oz less both were 18 1/2" long. the possible Names are Gracie & Lila . tough job for a young mother to name the children ( lot of advice) you know. Have a great day.
Lloyd
I posted on Hals Skype and page and it appers that it worked for him but hall is not answering me so do not know for sure. We talked to the mother a few min. ago. all are doing ok. c u all later'
Lloyd
Good morning, halkel. Yes, there's lots of cleaning up being done. Many thousand still don't have power. I'll have a cup of coffee now that the housekeepers did their job and are gone.
Lloyd--I think if you copy from someone's FB page you have to upload someplace before being able to post here.
Good Morning all, my computer was acting a bit lazy this morning, like me, it is getting to be a slow starter, and stubborn, but I personally won this time, so up and running.
Lloyd, your clickable took me to Facebook, and I do not subscribe to Facebook. Would love to see the babies though. Keep resting my friend. Your body is telling you something, so listen to it and obey.
Amy, I'm glad you find the staff so helpful, that's wonderful. Can give you more peace of mind, and the hospital is the very best place for him till they feel he he up to leaving. I'm sure he was ready to come home, wires and all, the moment he woke up, but don't let him win Amy. You will have your hands full soon enough. My guy wss in the hospital for 6 weeks before release. His morale was lower with each day, but the body required attention.
Larry, you really deserve a medal for doing what you have learned to do since Pat's illness. And I know she appreciates you greatly. Thank's be to God the pain is lessening, and I pray she will soon be healed completely. I too watched the debate last night, from beginning to end, and i felt they should have been wearing boxing gloves. Both of them are inclined to be temperamental, not at all adult. I wish, how I wish, we had a third candidate.
Bis, I'm so glad you could enjoy the fresh air this morning. I imagine ti must seem very fresh after all the cleansing rain and wind. I'm glad you are not responsible for cleaning up the debris. We are both blessed in that area. Have you considered at all moving near to Joe and your daughter. They are both in the same area now, correct ? I feel so extra content having Dori and Gary just 15 minutes away. And if they were to leave, I would want to follow. I don't want to live in their pocket, just near enough to feel I am not bothering them.
Hal, I would like to hear your comments on the debate, but I know this is not the place for politics. I hope you will post your thoughts there. I just made a fresh pot of coffee..but thanks for the offer. I use Folgers brand..good.
June--I sure am glad I don't have to clean up all the storm debris. I have given thought to moving closer to Joe and Linda.
Happy Columbus Day! I guess they want to change the name to something else......I say, can't we just leave things alone???
Packing and preparing for our trip tomorrow, but I have to stop and play with this little girl a bit too. Sure do enjoy having her here.
We did watch the debate last night and just can not believe that we really have to endure some of the subject matter that we are. JUNE, I would delight in discussing this with you and anyone else that would like to, but it might have to be on the telephone as I am not sure I am up for a political forum! Maybe that can be accomplished? Will try to seek this out later. I personally do not care which political view you have as long as you are willing to discuss facts and weigh them out?... sadly many folks I know are just not open minded at all. They are set in their minds and are not interested in weighing things out.
JOAN, I know the thought of another move for you probably is not the acceptable, however, I for one would be very happy if you said you were moving to Alabama to be closer to your familyðŸ˜
Times up, I must get my self busy again. Sure hate to shoo my little friend off my lap, but I must!
Jenny
Jenny--Guess you can't get any w--- done, with your little friend on your lap. You are right. The thought of another move is very overwhelming. When I moved here it was at the urging of my daughter and my sister (then a snow bird) because they wanted me to live closer to them and now they've both up and left. While Joe was here we talked about it but came to no conclusion.
For some reason, I have had to sign in with a new password, so I have lost all my other forums. It is very confusing. I have tried to get in here through my Yahoo, and they want me to change my password again. I was not able to see pictures or videos, so my computer man came to day to fix it for me. I did get the videos, but now I have to resign in to all my forums.
this is to much for and old lady.
I do not know what my problem is, but every time I go to a new forum, I have to start all over again, this is the the 3rd time I have come in here, and I have to start all over again. I am also looking for the craft and TV forums, and cannot find them.
Gloria, if you look at the top left side of the page, you will see your picture and this information

It will have your name instead of mine and the correct date and time on the bottom line. I always click on the second line and it will take me to a page showing all of the sites I go to and showing all the posts I haven't read.
Others use links, favorites and whatever works for them.
I have used this way since 2000 when I joined SeniorNet without any problems.
well I am sorry the link never worked. My grand daughter sent me pictures of the two babels not being held just warped up almost like mummies. I forward them to Jeannie Lee .reticently as she has Ben in Hp. I told her if she is up to post them for me but other wise not to. we have been busy to day getting the track back in place for the friend and getting good tires and wheels on my lowboy and getting my dosser home ( DO THANK GOD) it is done. it takes me long time to do what i used to do in a short time.
Lloyd
Hello everyone from sunny (finally!) Florida! We had a lot of rain and some wind but escaped the hurricane for the most part.
Joan - I'm so glad you are giving some thought to moving closer to Joe and Linda. It would give you some peace of mind. It's hard when you have no family close by.
Phyllis - Hope you can get someone to clean up the debris from the storm. That's a difficult job.
I'm also wondering if Johann is having any more weather problems.
Thinking of all of you who live near the flooding.
My little state of Vermont has had a terrible tragedy. Five teens on their way home from a concert in Burlington, VT were killed on I-89. A pick-up truck driving north in the southbound lane crashed into their car setting it on fire and killing all five. They were all around 16 yrs. old. I can't imagine what their families are going through. To make matters worse, it appears the driver of the pick-up then stole a police cruiser at the scene and drove the wrong way again hitting seven other cars. Five people are in the hospital. Sorry to bring up something so sad, but it has been on my mind a lot. :'(
Jenny - I agree! Vermont's governor has signed a bill re-naming Columbus Day "Indigenous Peoples Day". I'm trying to picture "Indigenous Peoples Day" sales in the stores. I get what they're saying but it's time to stop re-writing history! (And, yes, I know that Leif Erickson is thought to be the first one to discover this continent!)
Lloyd - I'll check Photos for pictures of the babies. Congratulations!
A cup of tea sounds good right now. Wish I had a muffin to go with it.
Beverly, my sincere sympathy for the sadness you are feeling.... when a group of teenagers get killed we just can't get past the "waste of life.... maybe the person that would have found a cure for cancer" is always what comes to mind. We lost most of our football team in a car wreck when I was in high school..... drinking & driving and ran into a concrete culvert. The ones that weren't killed had such injuries their lives would never be "normal". So many years ago but the heavy sadness comes over me when I think of it.
Lloyd, I don't do Facebook but I thought you had to accept friends for them to see your photos. All of my children & grands share photos with Facebook so my daughter "snags" photos to e-mail me. This is the only place I come to talk online. I will check for your twins over in Photos! Congratulations to all.
I've been nipping at the Halloween candy (shame-shame).... still have to find my Hershey fun size. Yum... They were out of the milk choc without almonds. I quit opening the door for trick or treaters when they started coming to the door taller than I am and no costume or little ones.... just a grocery bag begging. The problem was I would open for the little kids that had parents following them on the street but the big people would come to the door while it was already open and I just didn't feel safe by myself. So I don't turn on the lights anymore, but I have candy for anyone that comes to visit!
Joan, hard to decide when there's no guarantee the kids will stay in one place forever. Hardest part is having to make new friends when you move and all the medical changes. My sister said she would move into a retirement center immediately if her husband died, can't understand why I'm still in this house more than 3 years later. I don't like changes. How long have you been there? Comes down to "whatever floats your boat", right?
I am sleepy tonight & really going to bed. Last night I came in early & ended up not going to bed until about midnight. Sweet dreams to all and God Bless. Shirley
Patricia, you did a good job in helping our Gloria de. I hope it works for her. That is exactly how I enter S.S. and other places I visit. I hope she is connecting to the program itself.
I decided to do a load of laundry tonight and it wore me out...just doing a simple chore like that. I'm really feeling worthless, so will have an early to bed for sure.
I wish you all a very Good Night and a happy healthy tomorrow. Prayers, Hugs and Love to all. June
well Ladies one of our grand children put Facebook on my computer .I do not much or nothing about it.
and since our G D started teaching we don't see much of her. life goes on and as my old desktop with xp is not supported I am dead in the water so to speak. but if Janee Lee dose not feel up to posting will have to weight until the weaken . I have a few of your email addresses I could mail what I got in the email today.
Lloyd
Lloyd I got the picture on skype. Like you said, two little mummies. But that smile on the Dads face just about covers it all. One proud Dad.
Jenny, sorry you feel that way about the political forum.
Beverly, the Albany TV stations have been reporting all day about that Vermont tragedy. The idiot is himself in the hospital, and they are saying he was "high on marijuana". And they're legalizing that stuff!!!
Good Tuesday morning, Everyfriend. There's your choice of cereals and a fruit to accompany your coffee or tea. I wish everyone a great day!!:smitten:

Real FaithA grandfather was going by his little granddaughter's room one night when he saw her kneeling beside her bed, with head bowed and hands folded, repeating the alphabet.
"What are you doing?" he asked her.
She explained, "I'm saying my prayers, but I couldn't think of just what I wanted to say. So I'm just saying all the letters of the alphabet, and God can put them together however he thinks best."
Food For Thought
The High Cost of Living
(Author Unknown, Provided by Student Discipleship Ministries, TX) Matthew 16:24-27 (NIV) says:
"Then Jesus said to his disciples, 'If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it. What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul? For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father's glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what he has done.'"
What does Jesus say about "profit" in this passage? How do you think that relates to your life?
When the city of Pompeii was excavated, the body of a woman was found, embalmed by the ashes of Vesuvius. Her feet were pointed in the direction of the city gate, but her face was turned back in the direction of her outstretched hand. Just beyond her frozen fingers was found a bag of pearls. In her flight to save her life she had hesitated, though death was hot on her heels. Her hesitation likely cost her life. Was a bag of pearls really worth that price?
How much is real life worth to you? What is it that you are reaching out for that could cut you off from the life the Lord has for you? Sometimes the very thing we want most may cost us more than we ever dreamed. Think about that area and make a choice to turn away from it, turning your face toward the Lord.

Just read up on the Vermont car tragedy story...How dare they mend him up in hospital when the five innocent passengers dead, never got to have that privilege...
JOAN...and EVERYFRIENDS...
....good morning...been up since 4.45am to let our Benji out to do toilet....didn't bother going back to bed once a cup of tea or two got down me.....
Good morning everyone..
Have a fire going again this morning and will likely put one on when I come back from the hospital.Everything seems to be going well.....just need to get a few of his numbers up and then maybe he can come home.
Need to get a move on here.
Joan, thank you for breakfast.
Enjoy your day everyone.
Good morning, Vanilla-Jackie. That VT car accident sure was a horror. You were up extra early today.
Amy--Good morning. I pray your husband continues to improve so he will soon be well enough to come home.
I'm sure missing Janie and hope she soon gets her computer back so she can be back here.
Good Morning everyone. I see Vanilla-Jackie ,AMY , and Bis are on the go already.
Amy my prayers are in place for your husband. we turned our heat on a few days ago. chilly in earlier mornings but warms up by mid day lately. got the dosser home still on lowboy.I will un load it park it and change tires on the service truck today.then if I am not too tired I will come in and do some more work on getting Nancy's new laundry room in shape. she can do laundry in it now but a couple shelves in there with lot of junk needs to be removed and then to garage and some through away and some moved to shop. amazing how much we collect (string and nail saver).have great day
Lloyd
Good morning, Lloyd. It's very easy to collect "stuff" that we should have tossed out.:)
Good Morning Everyone!
A little chilly here this morning, but like Lloyd said it will soon warm up. I am going to go get my flu shot today and get the car inspected and new tags for the coming year. Seems like I just did all that yesterday, a year seems to go by so quickly anymore.
Amy, hope they get those numbers up quickly and you get hubby home where he belongs. I know he must be tired of the hospital. I was once in the hospital for 10 days and boy was I ever ready to get home.
Joanie, hope your day goes well. I wouldn't blame you for moving closer to the kids. You must get lonely and miss them. I sometime wonder, when moving, if it wouldn't just be easier to sell/give away/donate all your furniture and buy new, it cost so much to move anymore. But there is no way I could move myself again.
Think coffee is ready, who wants some.
Good morning halkel. It's overcast here and much cooler than it has been for months. When I moved here, I did just what you suggested. I packed up 25% of my clothes/shoes, my jewelry and a few items that were special to me. I bought everything else new here.
Good morning everyone, a cool one here, some places went below freezing last night, we are one of those places. When I pulled the shades up I could see frost on the cars that are still in the shade.
AMY good seeing your post and that your DH might go home today. A good staff at the hospital is a good thing. Last time I was in a hospital the staff left much to be desired. I would not send anyone there.
JOAN I had a great sleep last night. No CNA here yesterday because of the holiday. I sure missed her. She will be here tomorrow. I am spoiled with her here 3 days a week.
LARRY my older son called me and asked how to make stuffed peppers. I told him the way I always made them and he added some different things to his and he said they came out great. My DIL enjoyed them and took one to work for her lunch the next day. My other son had asked me one time and now he makes them often, There are so many different ways they can be stuffed. My grandson put Face book in my PC but I only want to see what family is doing. I really dislike it. If I check it once a month that is a lot.
HAL from what I see on the TV it will not get out of the 60's here today. Nice. Being on the top floor with the empty space above under the roof it does get hot in here in the summer even with the AC going full blast. I still rather have a window AC over the portable one. According to the manager the window ones take away from the beauty of the building.
JOAN it would make all of us feel better if you were closer to Joe and Linda. It would be away from the Florida coast and safer for those hurricanes. Would make your family feel better, too.
JENNY I have heard nothing about changing the name of Columbus day. I could understand about changing Armistice day to Veterans day but still think of it as Armistice.
GLORIA de I have Ccleaner installed and when it runs it gets rid of all cookies and I have to sign in again. Big pain.
BEVERLY that was so sad about those teens in Vermont. Been too many times an accident has happened because of someone driving the wrong way on a highway. Don't understand how or why they can get on the off ramp.
SHIRLEY glad I no longer get kids at Halloween. Even years ago when we had our house I would get some teens and I really hated to see that.
JUNE I can no longer do my own laundry, the washers and dryers here are so big I cannot reach all the clothes in the bottom/back. Thank goodness I have help.
JEANNE I will never understand how any state can legalize marijuana. This state is starting to talk about it.
JOAN you know me, for cereal hot oatmeal. Like Real Faith, leave it to a child. I cannot think of any material thing material that would make me turn back. Thank you for all today's goodies.
LLOYD like you I have a son who has more things saved in his garage for that -just in case he needs them.
Hi everyone on a beautiful, cool and crisp Tuesday morning. This will be a laid back day with no need to rush to accomplish anything. I may make a short trip to Walmart to pick up a prescription for Pat and get a couple of items but other than that plan on staying home. I need to fix some coleslaw and perhaps a macaroni salad, neither of which is difficult to do. Most of the morning chores are done except to water the flowers and Pat has had her breakfast. I know that Pat is feeling a lot better as yesterday she did the washing and helped clean up the kitchen following supper last evening.
Joan, glad you are finally getting some cooler weather. We are having beautiful weather up this way. Today is suppose to get about 80 degrees but if the humidity stays down it will be nice. I know from our experience how thankful we are that we did move close to our son but know it is a big decision and not an easy one.
Hal, I had to put on a sweat shirt this morning to be comfortable as the house is a bit chilled. However, don't want to turn on the heat at least for a few more days. I think Texas Roadhouse has great food and it is reasonable in price.
Lloyd, usually new parents have names picked out in advance. Pat's chiropractor and his wife just had twin baby girls born last week and they weighed about the same as your new great grandchildren.
Jenny, it seems that all of our traditions are now up to being changed.
deAngel, apparently the man who worked on your computer deleted all of your cookies which are used to remember out sign in information. Once that is done every site you visit where you have signed on will require a new sign in so hope you have all of your passwords handy.
Beverly, I heard about that terrible crash killing the 5 teenagers. Glad you didn't suffer any significant damage from the Hurricane. I think flooding is now a real problems for people here in South Carolina as well as in North Carolina.
Shirley, I don't think we will participate in Halloween this year. Our family room is at the back of our house and we have to go up a fairly long hallway to get to the front door. I do enjoy seeing the little ones but not the big kids. I will probably get a bag of candy just in case I change my mind. Our church sponsors a Trunk and Treat event for children in our church parking lot.
Amy, glad to read your husband is doing well and hope he will soon be in condition to come home and recuperate.
Today at sunset begins the holiest day in the Jewish calendar: Yom Kippur. Prior to that families enjoy a large meal because following that everyone will fast until sunset on Wednesday; no food, no water. There will be no radio, television or computer activities either, just a day of prayer and contemplation. Given what's going on in our part of the world, perhaps a time of reflection might be a good idea here as well.
Good morning, Gloria. The cool weather you like so much has finally arrived in your area. I haven't had stuffed peppers in years. Ray loved them. Me--not so much. I am so glad you have that CNA who does things that you can no longer do.
Larry--Good morning. It sure is good to read that Pat is gradually feeling better. Yes--moving to be near children is a big decision. I made that decision when I moved here and then they moved away.
Good morning, Radioman. Thanks for reminding us about Yom Kippur.
Bis, I am saving "Thought of the Day". We had a Priest named James H. Miller, and it sounds so much like something he would say. I miss him.
My Dori will be flying in from Idaho tomorrow night. It will be so good to have her home again. Dan and Nancy arrive the following day, and they will be staying with Dori and Gary, so I'm praying she won't be over-tired when entertaining them. She is such a giving personality.
Janie is SO missed. I hope she will return soon.
Gloria, Doing the laundry is really getting to be too much for me. The linens are all done by Rowntree..it's part of my contract, but just taking care of my personal things is very tiring. I can have it done here, but it will cost me. I will have to enquire about the prices.
Bis, reading about how you did your last move, do you ever wish you would have saved particular items. I have a few regrets, about some things I left behind that the family did not want, and cannot be replaced, but I keep saying, "it's only things, things are not important. People are important". and I have to remind myself to agree with that.
I feel this is going to be pretty much of a stay at home type day. I will make myself get out to do some walks, but even after a full nights sleep, I feel so tired. Like I would just like to crawl under the covers and let the world go by. Not a good attitude to have. I better go take my morning dose of medicine…I am getting too careless lately.
Getting ready for my monthly MS social evening, be leaving within the next 20 -30 minutes....R out with the dogs, soon be back...The talk tonight is on our air ambulance....My MS is not too good, stomach bloat like I am 5 to 7 months pregnant...this stomach bloat affects all of my body, including my eyes and head.....Taking a small bag of stuff for their next MS fundraising sale in a couple of weeks...
June--I think maybe it's time to have someone do your personal laundry. Once is a long while, I'll think of something I wish I had brought with me, but the thought passes quickly. The estate sale lady I hired to get rid of the contents did her job and that house full of furniture and "stuff" now resides with somebody else.
Vanilla-Jackie--I hope you find your meeting to be informative.
Good afternoon, on this cool , but sunny day. Fall is here.
I cannot stay long, as my friend from another park, just called and said get desert and coffee ready, as she will be here within the hour bring KFC
Patricia, I want to thank your for suggestion, that's the way I do come in here, but it came up and said I had no messages. Thanks all others also, I think I am about strighten out, as Gloria said big mess.
Jane and Molly are still missing, Does anyone know if Molly has big rivers near her. NC is a mess if you watch the weather channell. the river are going to keep riseing maybe till Sat.
Linedancer--How nice that your friend is coming with KFC. I know that parts of NC have been hit hard, but I don't know exactly where Molly lives. Janie said last week that she wouldn't be back until she got her computer back from the repair shop because using her iPad was too hard on her eyes.
Bis, This last move I made, I just left behind in the Apt., I had only seen this place once, and that was a quick visit as they were still remodeling it, but I knew I would not have a bedroom, nor a full kitchen. I had sent a whole bunch of stuff to Salvation Army too. I use a lot of paper goods instead of dishes, no pots and pans. My kitchenette here has a microwave and tiny refrigerator/freezer. plus my own toaster oven and elec. coffee pot.
Gloria de…….ummmmm, I love KFC. So good to see you back here dear one.
I got my lazy self dressed and went down for lunch. Had a scrumptious barbecued beef sandwich, tater tots, cole slaw, and fresh fruit. Brought half of it home. I just can't eat as much as I used to, so I will have the rest for supper.
We were discussing voting at the lunch table. I get the feeling most everyone at Rowntree are very conservative voters. It makes me feel even more at home.
June--I still have a single family dwelling--not terribly big--1900 sq.ft., 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, so it took quite a bit to furnish it. I didn't buy nearly as much cooking utensils as I'd had--do so little cooking. Your lunch sure sounds good.
Back from exercise and mobility class. Had a good time, lots of laughter and fellowship. It is so encouraging to see people in wheelchairs doing their very best to keep themselves active and finding fun while doing it. I am so proud of them. I will have a couple more walks..have some books to take back to the library, and hopefully enough gumption to take an evening walk. Onward and upward........
Joanie, I have had my computer back since 10[5 (see my post #11). Then I immediately ruffled a few feathers. I seem to be doing a lot of that lately so I'm taking a vacation to gather my wits.
Thanks very much for thinking about me. I haven't meant to abandon friends in these posts, but with the terrible Weather we have been having in our area of Concord, North Carolina (North of Charlotte), we have had some REALLY enormously challenging weather for several days - which has been a bit better for the past few days. Fortunately, the Sun has begun to shine again and that sure is a bit relief.
Friends here may recall that my son is still stationed in South Korea, but his wife and daughter remained in their home in Columbia, South Carolina. Recently, that area was absolutely almost destroyed in many areas with the horrible torrential weather which surrounded the area. When my son called from his Duty Station a few days ago, he told me that miles of
areas surrounding their home was absolutely devastated: Houses flattened, huge trees split and fallen to the ground, parked cars outside smashed to the ground, etc. He was almost crying while he talked about his concern for the safety of his wife and daughter (who jut began her second year of College. Their son lives in Atlanta, but traveled quickly to check on his Mom and Sister.
I was able to reach my DIL a few days ago on her cell phone, so we are back in touch again. Their house is still standing, but the ground around the house is like a river, trees are tipped over and also bent to the ground. They are able to remain inside the house, but with no electricity. Their dogs have been too frightened to go outside, so have been "camping" inside. Things are a bit better now, but was not able to reach her yesterday or today. I'll keep trying.
Folks in our local Church have contacted me several times in the last few days and today the Pastor came by to visit briefly. Sure appreciate his taking time from his enormously busy schedule! Many thanks to all friends here, too, for keeping us all in prayers.
Molly
Molly, it SO good to hear from you and know you are o.k. but I am so sorry your DIL had so much devastation where she lives. It will take a long time to get things back to normal for her the children, and I know your son must be very concerned for their welfare. It must be very difficult for him being so far away at a time like this. I pray all will be well for all of them before too long.
JaneS, I can't imagine YOU ruffling any feathers! Never! I come & read but don't always talk... and when I do I get carried away & have to apologize for being so long winded. Besides, I've been doing yard w**k and know Joan will throw the book at me. ;)
Molly, glad to see your post & so sorry about all the water & your son's family's disaster.
Prayers for all in need. Hugs & God Bless.........
I am going to bed.... got a busy day tomorrow so up early, bright eyed & busy tailed.
JaneS....
I went back and read a response that I made
to something you said about the weather.
I realize now, that my response did sound very
snippy.
I apologize for my poor use of
words at that time.
I want to assure you that in
the future I will edit my posts carefully,
so that I do not unintentionally offend you
(or anyone else.)
I am sorry that I hurt you.
Sandy
Good Wednesday morning, Everyfriend. There's egg, sausage and cheese croissants to accompany your coffee or tea. I wish everyone a good day!!:smitten:
CHUCKLES
SurgeryOur 4-year-old daughter's surgery was scheduled for 11:30 a.m. We were becoming anxious as time passed and no one came to get her.
Finally at 12:30, the surgeon arrived at her room. Knowing my husband is a minister, the doctor asked us if many people were praying for this surgery. Edgy from the delay, I said, "They were praying for you an hour ago." With a smile, he shot back, "Thanks. That surgery went very well."
Food For Thought
Present With the Lord
(By Adrian Rogers) "We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord." (2 Corinthians 5:8)
A man named Solomon Peas died. His tombstone in London reads:
"Beneath these clouds and beneath these trees,
Lies the body of Solomon Peas.
But this ain't Peas - it's just the pod.
Peas shelled out and went to God."
I like that. That's what your body is. It's just a pod. What happens to a child of God who has trusted Christ as his personal Savior? When he closes his eyes in this life, he opens them in the next. Jesus did not say, "After two or three thousand years, you'll be with Me in paradise." Jesus said, "Today, truly, you'll be with Me in paradise" (Luke 23:43).
Are you confident that, if you died today, you'd be with Jesus? If not, then confess your sins and believe upon His name to save you. Now, go and tell someone!
Thought of the Day
"Heaven goes by favor (grace). If it went by merit, you would stay out and your dog would go in."
- Mark Twain
:smitten:
Good morning everyone.
Went to the hospital yesterday and they said hubby may have to stay in another day,not because of his surgery but because of his bp!! As the day wore on it did settle down and was allowed to come home......boy talk about two happy people!!! The staff was amazing during his stay and i/we can't say enough about them. Now the hard part begins, making his do what the Dr said...no driving for 6 weeks is not going to make him happy but it is what it is.
JANIEEEEEEE.......so good to see you in here.......now please don't go AWOL again unless it is puter problems.....hugs to you. I missed you!
Need to pick up a few groceries and pay a garage bill.I also have some bananas that need to be put in some muffins.
Thank you all again for prayers and good thoughts.
Joan, thank you for breakfast.
Enjoy your day everyone..
Good morning, Amy. I am so glad for you and your husband that he was allowed to come home. I hope he follows doctor's orders.
Janie--I am sorry that someone caused you to take a vacation. I sure have been missing you.
It's a bit cooler here this morning, and I will get out and do some errands.
Good midweek morning....still have signs of sun, but thankfully temps are more down to what I feel comfortable with...I do now put our radiator heat on first thing in the mornings...
Yesterday evening driving home from my MS social evening and just driving down our parkhomes private lane I spotted a Barn Owl perched on the low barbed wire fencing,...If we had our car windows down we could have reached out to touch it as our headlights did not frighten it off, this is the first time both myself and R have ever seen one out in the wild, unless it has been outside with its handler showing to the crowd...so quite a rare sighting for us...
I enjoyed our lecture talk last night on our local air ambulance volunteer service, it was a real eye opener to the amount that goes into the running of it, not just he money side but the organisation of having everything ready for its next call out emergency....I was quite shocked to hear that the cost for every call out comes to £2,500 ( $3064 )
Good morning Vanilla-Jackie. What a treat that you and "R" got to see that barn owl. I've heard hear that those trips on air ambulances are VERY costly.
Good MOrning Everyone!
Amy, that is good news, hubby is home and back under YOUR control. ;) Get a couple of those banana muffins down him and he will be feeling new as rain.
JaneS, we need an update on your adventures. So get on your new computer, okay it isn't new, but it is all repaired, and tell us about the fall season and what you have put up for when: "the snow flies".
Well yesterday went nothing like I was planning. First I went out to go get the car inspected and my flu shot and it wouldn't start. Dead battery, seems like I had just put one in the car, but it was four years ago. So called AAA and they were prompt (he had been in neighborhood replacing someone else's battery) and he got it replaced. Another hundred plus shot. But no way could this old man have done the job. These newer cars make it a real chore to do simple jobs anymore. After that I went to my doctors office and got my flu shot, which took longer than anticipated. After that the morning was gone and the inspection station was stacked up when I drove by so I came home and called it a day. Will try for the car inspection this morning, after the sun rises.
I did get an appointment with pain doctor, quicker than I had anticipated, and will get started with him and see if he I can get some relief from my aching back.
Tisie, you aren't long winded, I, and would bet everyone else, enjoys your description of what is going on in your life. (and adventures of the "kittens".)
So go Tisie, GO!
Joanie, how's your day going. You never sleep it seems and always have a good breakfast for us, mind, soul and body. Thank you.
Good Morning Everyone, from the
cool but sunny rocky coast of Maine.
The weather here is seasonal, and it will
not be long before all of our beautiful
foliage has fallen to the ground.... (So sad)
But soon the holidays will be upon us and
for a while that will be enough for most
of us to forget about the changing
weather and concentrate on peace and
good will towards man.
Opp's, I forgot about the fact that
fortunately we now have less the four
weeks before, hopefully, the US
Election will be determined, and OVER.
And then we can get on to concentrating
on "peace and good will towards mankind" ..
(I am trying here, folks... :smitten: )
I am off this morning to spend some time
with my daughter Kelly. She comes once
a week and helps me with grocery shopping and
any other errands that I might have.
I really appreciate her being able
to dedicate some time to me. I am
very lucky to have both my gals close to me.
Have a good day, Everyone !
Peace!
Sandy
:frog: :fish:
Good Morning everyone.
AMY do not take Hall's advice Let him enjoy being home. take good care of him for a few days before getting into the old retune of boss. Have a great day everyone. we are having liquid sunshine again today.
Lloyd
Good morning everyone, another cool night and good for sleeping. Turned the heat up again this morning. Sunshine and blue sky will warm up into the mid 60's.
LARRY glad Pat is getting better.
JOAN love the temperature we are getting now. Just realized I need a new winter jacket. Will have to call my DIL to see if she can take me shopping for one. Has to be lightweight and warm. With my shoulders I have to get one I know will be too big but even the one that was replaced does not move normally and I never wanted the other one done. My oldest son did not like cooked peppers so I would make the filling separate and give him a raw pepper. I did not like cooked peppers when I was young either. My MIL said I spoiled him. I would never force a child to eat what they did not like. I saw a BIL do that to a nephew and the kid would be sick after.
JUNE when you can no longer do something it is worth the price to pay someone to do it for you.
JANE good seeing you. I cannot picture you “ruffling a few feathersâ€. At times I think we all need a break from routine. We all missed you. You know we worry about our “family†members when we don't see them every day.
MOLLY glad you and family are OK. Glad you posted.
JOAN yummy breakfast. Food for Thought, a different way of looking at it. Good quote. Thank you for all today's goodies.
AMY glad your DH is home. At least you do not have that drive to the hospital every day. I wish him a fast recovery and you the patience to make sure he does what he is supposed to do.
JOAN enjoy your trip out this morning, don't rush, we will behave.
SHIRLEY I think we all enjoy your posts. You have more going on in your life than some of us here that lead a boring life.
JACKIE wonderful seeing that owl. I have heard one at night but never seen one out of a zoo. The rescue is called here often, if someone falls no one here is allowed to pick them up so they call the rescue. Just heard yesterday that the cost for each time it $2,000. The fire station is about 1 mile from here.
HAL I have just changed my primary doctor so hope this new one is better. Also go a business card for a back clinic at a hospital in Providence. I know what back pain is like so know how you feel.
SANDY I wish my daughter was closer, 2 sons are but not like having her here instead of the other side of the country.
LLOYD we have beautiful sunshine here.
Hi everyone. Once again it is a beautiful, cool and crisp morning in my part of the world. The painters are busy on the outside of the new house next door and know they appreciate the cooler weather. There is no chance of rain in our forecast for today. There are only two things on the schedule for today. The first is Pat's chiropractic appointment at 4 pm and then I will meet Scott at the church for the Wednesday night dinner (Italian menu) and then we look forward to his spending a couple of hours with us afterwards.
Yesterday was a most enjoyable and laid back day. We decided to go out for a late lunch and early dinner, which we did. Prior to that I had the best afternoon nap I have had in a long time. It was a very laid back day.
Joan, I certainly understand your hesitancy in making another move. We thought we were set in the Atlanta area and then our son moved here to North Augusta and after Stacey passed we had no relatives in that area. The move was not easy but would have been easier had we done what you did. However the movers put the furniture where we wanted it and it was just the packing and unpacking of everything that was the hassle as well as finding new doctors and the other things involved in moving between States. For us the move was the right thing to do and our son assures us he has no expectation of moving away from here although I realize nothing is certain.
June, I hope you will let the staff there do your laundry if it is becoming burdensome for you. I see you did have a pretty active day.
Jackie, sorry that your MS is becoming so troublesome for you. Glad you attend the social evening.
JaneS, I hope your vacation from posting here is about over as I know I have missed your postings. I am sure we seldom, if ever, intend to say things that are offensive to each other. However, written communication is sometimes difficult since we don't see facial expressions or hear tones of voices when things are said.
Molly, so glad to see your posting. I take it you had no problems at your home. So sorry to hear of the problems being encountered with all the flooding and that your son's home has been so impacted by the Hurricane. I expect your son is beside himself being so far away. We haven't heard much about the problems in the Columbia, South Carolina area here in Augusta. We were very fortunate to really not be impacted by the storm other than providing shelters for many folks who were impacted. Glad your grandson was available to check on his mother and sister.
Shirley, your postings are always interesting. We are what we are and each have our own styles of writing. I also write too much but know that folks are perfectly free to scroll on through my messages if they want.
Amy, glad your husband is home and the recovery can begin in earnest. Glad he had good care in the hospital.
Hal, I know how frustrating getting in your car and having a dead battery or bad starter or faulty ignition can be having experienced all of these in the last four or five years. I do hope the pain doctor will be able to give you relief from that back pain.
Gloria, I like most vegetables raw rather than cooked but prepare peppers to be cooked. I didn't like peppers when I was young along with several other vegetables.
Good Morning All, I see I didn't get in to say Goodnight. I am happy to see you all here, so you made it fine.
Janie, you are being missed by all of us. You received a very nice apology. I have said it before, and I say it again. No matter how we print out our thoughts, they can always be misconstrued by the reader. And what we feel is insulting, was not meant that way at all. I always worry that I may be careless, but I don't think any of us would intentionally mean to be cruel.
We are having another cool overcast morning. I enjoy that. I went to bed to read at my usual time last night, and needed a bathroom call after three hours of solid sleep, then I could not get sleep to come back again. Tried for two hours. Gave up and opened my book and read for a few hours. Tried again to sleep, no luck. So I gave up and just read. My son will be giving Bible study this morning and also delivering me some more Ensure, so I will have some more coffee and try to be alert. After Gary is finished I will just let happen what happens. Nothing else I am committed to do. Thank you, God.
I read this a few days ago, and it stuck with me, so I would like to share it with you. I felt like I was being spoken to directly.
"Trust me enough to let things happen without striving to predict or control them. Relax and refresh yourself in the light of My everlasting love. My love-light never dims, yet you are often unaware of My radiant Presence. When you project yourself into the future, rehearsing what you will do or say, you are seeking to self-sufficient: to be adequate without My help. This is a subtle sin-so common that it usually slips by unnoticed.
The alternative is to live fully in the present, depending on Me each moment. Rather than fearing your inadequacy, rejoice in My abundant supply. Train your mind to seek My help continually, even when you feel competent to handle something by yourself. Don't divide your life into things that you can do by yourself and things that require My help. Instead learn to rely on Me in every situation. This discipline will enable you to enjoy life more and to face each day confidently."
From the book "Jesus Calling"
by Sarah Young
I am having trouble with my computer and trying to get help. Using my iPad just isn't the same.
Hello Everyfriend! I didn't mean to imply that anyone had offended me. What I feared was that I had offended someone with my offhand sort of humor. And if someone indicated that, perhaps others had been offended and refrained for saying so.
Therefore, I did not mean to make light of anyone's suffering. I just wanted to indicate that we in our generation deal with adversity so much differently than the young people of today. Our fears were (and are) just as great but not impossible to overcome. Our generation made adversity an adventure to our kids. I sometimes wonder if the younger generation even knows how to turn things around for their kids.
And if I've ruffled any more feathers with these remarks, let me add that I thank God every day for giving me the chance to "meet" all of you and I love you all for your diversity, your courage, your humor and your tenacity! That's what makes friends!
I wish you all a good day today and a good tomorrow.....
Good afternoon, on another cloudy cool day.
Joan, i am sorry to read you are having trouble with your PC. I still have Vista, so my man was here the other day, as I was not able to get videos, now I can see videos, but had to start all over with new passwords. He is going to look around for a new reconditioned PC, as I do not do any business on this one, only games and email.
Jane, of course we miss you, and as Larry said no one in here means to hurt anyone. Years ago there was one man, who did, but they got rid of him, He use to make fun of my spelling. I do not post every day, as Ido not have anything interesting to say, but I do love to read what other folks are saying.
Molly, I am glad you are OK, but sorry to read about your family in SC.
Hune you mention cole slaw the other day, to me I like it from KFC, if I cannot get home made.
Amy, I had a very dear husband, but he was a poor patient. He even signed himself out of the hospital where I was working.
Jackie, I would love to see and owl in the wild, when I lived in WaterMIll, I use to hear them.
Sandy, I do not think there is anyone in the US, that will not be glad when this elections is over, and we can get back to someone who will talk about important issues.
Gloria, if someone falls here in the park, the police come and pick them up, or puts them back in bed. If the officer thinks its bad, then he calls the ambulance. Sometimes they just cannot get out of bed or a chair, and the spouse is to weak to help them. If you call an ambulance, the police come first.
Good afternoon.
Sending you, Joan, a late afternoon hello!
Am slow moving today. I didn't sleep well, so after I ate my breakfast, I went back to bed for a while.
It will be a very lazy day today. I have not accomplished anything important. Did have a nice phone visit with a friend. She has been a widow for a couple years now, and her son and DIL insisted that she move in with them. They are very good to her, but she is just not happy. All her friends think she would be much happier in a senior living place, where there would be things that she could do. She loves to sew , and play cards, but the family doesn't want her to go to a place like that. And, my friend is very timid, and won't speak up for herself. I feel so bad for her, as she just is so down all the time. Hard to have a conversation with her, but I try.
It is real pretty sunny day today. The Fire Alarm company has it's inspectors here today testing the fire alarms. Every once in a while the siren will go off and it is just deafening. I can go into my bedroom and shut the door, and it is not so bad. However, by the time I get myself in there, it goes off.
Jane, I went back to some old messages, I have yet to see anything that made me think that you had said something to "ruffle anyone's feathers". You, of all people, seem like such a kind and caring person, that I am sure you would not say anything to hurt anyone.
This is such a nice group that I am sure we all feel the same way. I always enjoy all your messages about your days at Walmart, and all the cooking and preserving that you do. Wish I had your ambition. Just keep staying the way you are. LOL
I made up some pie dough yesterday and I have some apples to use up, so I want to make "something" so that I will have a sweet dessert for later. And, I have some chocolate ice cream to go with it.
Hope everyone has had a nice day and will enjoy a nice evening.
Joy
That little two year old boy they found dead in the tiny village of Broadmayne near to us...they have charged the mothers male partner with his murder, he appears in court tomorrow....As I have previously mentioned, the sad thing about this is that the house is next door to a small church....Link...
http://www.itv.com/news/westcountry/2016-10-12/man-charged-with-murdering-two-year-old-boy-in-dorset/
Janie--I understand.
Linedancer--My computer is hobbling along with a temporary fix. I use Windows 10. Glad you got your passwords straightened out.
Joy--Sorry you didn't sleep well. I feel sorry for your widow friend. My sister sold her home and moved to a lovely independent living facility. She loves it. Mainly she moved for social interaction.
Vanilla-Jackie. Thanks for the link. So sad.
Jackie, he was fine looking youngster. We seemed to have our share of child abuse here in San Antonio. I have yet to figure out why there is so much abuse of children.
But much of it occurs by couples who live together and not married.
Janie, I love you girl, as do many of us. We are Blessed.
Bis, my computer is getting very slow about opening. Especially if I shut it down at night, so I have leaving it on the "sleep" mode.
Gloria de, I too like KFC's cole slaw recipe…The best every. Rowntree runs a close second, but more coarse cut than KFC. Here we have the Paramedics to call in an emergency. They are well trained and can give emergency treatment to the patient on the way to the hospital. Nice guys too.
Hal, anyone who abuses a child, be the abuser male or female, are cowards. They take out their frustrations on a helpless little one that cannot protect itself. The worst kind of criminal in my estimation.
I went to Gary's Bible class today and enjoyed it tremendously. He also brought me two cases of Ensure, so that is much appreciated.
I have been home all day, reading and napping. Looking forward to seeing my older son and his wife, along with Dori and Gary. I'm hoping they will come in time for lunch here. Having all four of them at the same time is a mammoth treat for me. most of all, I hope my energy doesn't flag, where I have to go lie down. They would understand, but I would not like for it to happen.
I'm going to have some supper here at home, go down and check my mailbox, then home to an early bed and more reading. Hoping and praying for a strong, healthy tomorrow.
Have a good night my dear ones. I love you all. June
Good night everyone.
well cloudy and a little rain here today.the weather guesser says scrape frost in the morning. well it is about that time of year. sweet dreams.
Lloyd
Lloyd, I hope you are feeling better & up to your old tricks.... you have not sounded like yourself lately.
Jackie, that is such a darling little boy & can not understand how any mother could or would put their child at risk like that. I doubt if it was the first time he was abused, so horrible to think about.
Joy, sad that your friend can't explain to her kids that she needs to be around people, not just "kept" safe. I know some families think it is a disgrace to not take care of their parents but are so busy with their own lives they don't realize how lonely life can be without friends.... especially if they don't use a computer.
June, glad you will have your whole bunch together & know you will be so happy your body will dance with joy. I know I do better when I NEED to.... and am lazy when no deadlines. Right now I've put off doing laundry & will run out of clothes (not a chance~ ) maybe run out of space to pile the clothes up.... I do not like yard work so have been concentrating on that & then take a nap. Just plain lazy.
Joan, my computers have had so many ups & downs lately I just take advantage of when one works right. Today I managed to get the best of the photos cropped & put on a SD card to take to Sam's Club & have prints made.... of the Baptism of the latest gr-grand. One of the 5 of them came out really good so I had a dozen 4x6 prints made. Usually I have some 8x10s made but nary a one mentioned if they frame them or even got a note of thanks.... I always have prints made for the other grandparents & families. I will laminate one for myself to put with the other photos I keep in the RV for when I visit "back home". Don't have to worry about finger prints or bent corners on the photos when laminated. So that's all I have to show for my day. Good luck with your computer.
Linedancer/Gloria, had to laugh at your husband checking himself out of the hospital. My husband did the same one time.... they had to wait 24 or 36 hours before running a certain test so he wanted to sleep in his own bed. Doctor didn't show up to release him so he dressed & had the nurse in a fit, she told him he couldn't do that! He told her if the doctor got there in the next 15 minutes "he'd see him, otherwise he was going home". Believe it or not, the doctor showed up & signed the release. Cas was a big man & nobody called his bluff. This was before he retired & was not on Medicare....
Jane, I'm always afraid I will say something that "comes out wrong"..... with my long winded posts. It probably would be a blessing if my next computer keyboard didn't operate as well/fast as these Toshiba ones. I've never found any other keyboard that springs back & move along as fast. Back in the mid '50s when I was training on a teletype they were set at 60 wpm & I would trip over my fingers trying to slow to that pace. I have no idea what these computers can do but will have to get something different now that Toshiba is being sold. Boo-hoo.... Since all are within 6 months of being the same age... old in computer years.... that day will come.
Sorry about the dead car battery, Hal..... I am so pleased with the one I had to replace in the RV (accessories) since the new one holds a charge much better than the other did when new. El Cheapo lasted about a year & half & now I don't have to run the generator to charge it every 3 days!
Sandy, you are lucky your daughter can spend that much time with you. When my daughter comes to town she has to divide her time between her oldest son, wife & 3 of her grands, & her youngest daughter that just graduated from college but still loves to take Mom shopping for clothes & groceries so Mom can pay.... plus she is usually on a working trip so doing conference calls & giving lectures.... I get the late night visits & stops to & from the airport. I try to have them all for at least one gathering, her brothers will drop everything for a chance to get together. I had a neighbor that set aside one day a week to spend with her mother.... I thought that was so nice.
Gloria, we had our kind of weather today.... even dropped too chilly to sit out when I walked across the street to visit my neighbor tonight. Must have dropped 10-15 degrees in half an hour & I didn't have a coat on. To be back in the 80s over the week end so summer is hanging on.
Larry, you amaze me with all your activities & how well you pace yourself. You are such a good sport about eating out and fixing meals at home. You do a great job of rolling with the punches, making the best of each day without being stressed about it. Sincere admiration for your control.
I do think I learn from everyone in here, a super gang! Sweet dreams & God Bless. Shirley
Agree with Halkel, so many of these child abuse-killings happen by the child's mothers partners....
Shirley I am same sweet me just busy helping the Nadie. sorry i missed you. you will be one of my best buddies.

The Five-Finger Prayer"
(Author Unknown) 1. Your thumb is nearest to you. So begin your prayers by praying for those closest to you. They are the easiest to remember. To pray for our loved ones is, as C. S. Lewis once said, a "sweet duty."
2. The next finger is the pointing finger. Pray for those who teach, instruct and heal. This includes teachers, doctors, and ministers. They need support and wisdom in pointing others in the right direction. Keep them in your prayers.
3. The next finger is the tallest finger. It reminds us of our leaders. Pray for the president, leaders in business and industry, and administrators. These people shape our nation and guide public opinion. They need God's guidance.
4. The fourth finger is our ring finger. Surprising to many is fact that this is our weakest finger; as any piano teacher will testify. It should remind us to pray for those who are weak, in trouble or in pain. They need your prayers day and night. You cannot pray too much for them.
5. And lastly comes our little finger; the smallest finger of all, which is where we should place ourselves in relation to God and others. As the Bible says, "the least shall be the greatest among you." Your pinky should remind you to pray for yourself. By the time you have prayed for the other four groups, your own needs will be put into proper perspective and you will be able to pray for yourself more effectively.

Good morning everyone.
I hadn't planned on getting up early but I guess at 4 am I had had enough sleep. Have laundry going but it will have to be dried inside as it is raining out.
Hubby has had some great sleep/naps..nothing like your own bed and and home.
Hal, he doesn't want to go back to the hospital so he had better behave.....or else :)) I am going to make sure he behaves along with cast iron frying pan and rolling pins .. :2funny:
I did manage to get the banana/pineapple muffins made along with some biscuits too so check the hidey hole for some.
I hear laundry calling me
Joan, thank you for breakfast
Enjoy your day everyone.
AMY....
....If I had known, I would have put the kettle on for you as I too was up at 4am, after only 4 hours sleep....had trouble getting off to sleep....too much on my mind...
Jackie, thank you. I too, was having my tea then :)
Good Morning Everyfriend! And I do mean EVERY FRIEND! We've had our first frost so now we can have Indian Summer. I really love Indian Summer. It's God's gift to us before the ice and snow come.
I wish you all a lovely day full of things that please you!
Hi everyone on a 56 degree morning with no chance of rain today. Nothing unexpected occurred yesterday so it was another pretty restful day. Today will be my typical Thursday with the exception that I will not pickup my friend for coffee. There is a special meeting at his retirement home that he will attend today so can't go to coffee. I am going for my social time with my friends and then to the Church for the Wisdom group. Pat has her final chiropractic appointment for this week late this afternoon. I plan on getting some cooking done today, hopefully before I go to coffee.
Pat Halbach posted in the Christian Photographers discussion that Jeanne Lee was back in the hospital. No other details available.
June, the little piece you posted is how I try to live my life.
Joan, I am using my iPad this morning as not yet time to get up as Pat had to go to her easy chair for the last part of the night and I don't want to walk her yet. However the iPad is easier to use than the iPhone for writing as has the bigger keyboard. You are having more than your share of computer problems.
Joy, sad story about your friend who is so unhappy.
Hal and Jackie, just yesterday we had a man convicted of murdering a young child in the home. There are some very evil people in the world.
Shirley, something wrong with my eyes as sure I saw you describe yourself as lazy. That image just doesn't fit my mental picture of you. ðŸ¤"
Amy, nice to read your husband is getting good rest in his own bed. I don't think anything makes you appreciate home like being in the hospital. Those rolling pins and frying pans would sure keep me behaving myself.
Enjoyed all of the postings. Hope all have a good day.
Good morning, Amy. I am glad to read that your husband had such good sleep. Getting up so early, you are going to need a nap. I'll check the "hidey hole" for those muffins and biscuits. Thank you.
Vanilla-Jackie--Good morning. I was up then, too. I would love to join you and Amy.
Good morning, Janie. When we lived up that way I always looked forward to Indian Summer.
Larry--Good morning. You are sure going to keep busy today. Thanks for telling us about Jeanne Lee. She is having a really rough time. I will add more prayers for her. I'm sorry Pat wasn't able to sleep all night in her bad. Yes, the iPad is easier to use than the iPhone, but I like my computer to be operable, too.
Good Morning Everyone!
Tisie, have to go along with Larry, lazy you aren't. You, like so many ladies of this group have more irons in the fire than the law allows.
Well, our group is finally getting "somewhat" back to normal. Janie is back, Lloyd claims he is normal ::) (and he has broken or torn up anything in almost a week).
Amy, give your husband my best. I know he must be happy to be under the care of an expert, you. And the aroma of fresh baked muffins floating through the house has gotta be good therapy on it's own. I am headed to the hidey hole.
Larry, is Pat going to continue with her treatment with Chiropractor? It seems that you are starting to see some good results. Pain is such a debilitating thing.
Well, I need to get a move on, bible study and breakfast with the men this morning. Always great, food for the body and soul.
Oh no, Jeanne Lee back in hospital? I thought she had only just come out....
Amy, Joan, maybe we can set our clocks for an early morning cuppa, maybe for 4am...we can start our own club...call it the early risers...or if anyone can think of a better name...or maybe the " brew club.." ;)
HALKEL...
...Let us just hope, Lloyd continues to stay in one piece...
Good morning, halkel. Enjoy your food for the body and soul.
Vanilla-Jackie--The "brew club" sounds good to me.:)
Good morning everyone, it is foggy, don't remember the last time I saw fog like this here if I ever did.
LARRY glad you had a good day Tuesday. I always liked raw vegetables, then I like most vegetables any way.
JUNE so often I know I cannot express what I mean and it comes out wrong. I would never say anything to hurt someone. I like what you quoted in post #105
JUST saw on the news they are working on a drone so small they insert it in someone to deliver medicine to a certain part of the body and then it will disintegrate. Good Lord, what next?
JOAN hope you get help with your computer. No fun at all, and boy did I find that out since February.
JANE I doubt you would ever say something to offend anyone. I have often worked with others with an odd sense of humor, sarcastic or insulting remarks that were meant as fun and not to be taken seriously. I could dish it out, too. Know some folks are too serious and dislike that humor.
GLORIA de I know who you were referring to about the trouble make who started back in SN and then learned we were here at S&F and started up again. Glad Pat banned him. Never came in contact with someone like him before or after.
JOY I feel bad for your friend. I know when I told my son that I was moving here he was not happy. I had my own apartment in his house but needed help to go up and down the stairs to get outside and the only one I saw most of the time was him. I do miss his daily visits but here there are others to talk with and I can get outside thanks to the elevator.
JACKIE there is a man on trial here for killing his 7 month old baby. How anyone can hurt a baby I will never understand.
LLOYD we have had a few mornings already with frost.
SHIRLEY you lazy? No way. I get worn out reading all you do. I have finally started going through my boxes of pictures. Some old one of my family that neither sons want and some my daughter said she would like. Instead of sending them to her I will scan them and get them on a thumb drive for her. Don't think we will see the 80's again this year, had not hit 70 this week. Nice, put a light jacket on and go outside.
JOAN a cheese omelet will be so good this morning. Good chuckles. Copied the Five Finger prayer and will share it. Thank you for all today's goodies.
AMY glad your DH had a good night.
JANE we have had a few frosty mornings but no killing frost yet.
LARRY thanks for letting us know about Jeanne Lee.
Good Morning everyone. This old verse keeps popping into my mind, so I will share it.
"This is the day the Lord has made, so rejoice and be glad in it ."
I have had my first cuppa', and ready for another and a bite to eat. Did my exercises and massaged these poor old legs and cold feet, washed and lotioned so partly ready to face the day. Dan and Nancy will arrive around mid morning, so I had better get the bed made and myself dressed. But first...more coffee and conversation with all of you.
Tisie, I echo your feelings about our friends here in the S.S., they are all so dear and it is such a joy to see them each morning..a perfect start to my day.
Larry dear, thank you so much for informing us about Jeanne Lee. She is really having a bad time recovering from her stay in the hospital.
I love hearing of how each of us starts our day, we are so similar in many ways, yet as individuals in other ways...just the way God Planned it. Life is good. And I love you all. June
HI GLORIA.....have a good day dear friend !!!!!
Gloria--We quite often have fog here. So far the band aid fix on my computer is working, but I know it could snap anytime. I am really glad you moved where you can have some social interaction.
June--Enjoy the visit from your kids.
Good Afternoon Everyone,
from the cool and dry, rocky coast of Maine.
All is well here.
I am going to listened to some of
last nights programs that I have recorded.
It is great to be able to review "stuff" that
I missed at the viewing time.
I particularly like "The Rachel Maddow Show",
and "The Last Word with Lawrence O'Donnell",
as well as the new and older shows that are
showing this season.
Fun to play "Catch Up" !
Have a good day, everyone!!
Sandy
Sandy--I seldom record any programs. That's another "whatever floats your boat" thing. Your avatar is adorable.
My ability to record programs is
attached to my Time Warner Cable Box ....
Easy to use... And very helpful for someone
like me who enjoys watching many of the new
and old series on TV....
As you say JoanFL... "what ever floats your boat",
and my boat would definitely sink without my
ability to record many of my favorite shows.

Sandy--It would be a boring world if we all liked the same thing.
Hello Friends! The weather was beautiful in Central PA. I often wonder when I say that if anyone really cares what kind of weather we have in the countryside of PA. It doesn't matter though, because I care about it.
I hope you've all had a lovely day, so far and that it continues to be just that. JUNE, I hope you're enjoying your visit with your kids as I'm sure they are enjoyin visiting with you.
Molly, I hope your family continues to be safe and that their cleanup proceeds well.
I wish all of you health and happiness.
Kiran and I spent a happy hour together at the library. She has become quite a reader and I'm happy to have been a part of that. She takes about 5 books home with her and she's finished with them before it't time to go back the next week. We have something special to do together and we both love it.
I'll say my good night now because I'm reading a biography of Gene Kelly and I'm probably not going to get back later. Good Night Everyfriend. Sleep peacefully and know that God watches over all of us.
Hi, All.......I'm still waiting for Dan and Nancy. This has been a long, long, day. However Dan has contacted Gary twice now, and Gary calls me. The first call was they were doing some sight-seeing on the way down. Second call they were about a half hour away, but in a lot of traffic, so Gary just told me to plan on seeing them around supper time. ho hum....... In the mean time I have cleaned out a saved file and tossed stuff that I had started saving since I joined Sr. Net way back in 1997. So that is one less thing my kids will have to do when the day comes they have to dispose of "stuff". Gave me lots of good memories though. one is a group picture of some of our people from 2002 when were still Bis' Nest. Nugget and his daughter were there along with some I have forgotten "talking" with. Makes me a bit sad not to remember.
I'll try to send it to Bis, in case she wants to post it.
Oops....I can't send it. It is a print-out and not on this computer. Dumb me.
Kettles on for our " Brew Club...." :kettle: .... sorry a tad later than 4.am...its now 5.50am here in UK...better late than never...
Junedrabek, and Shirley, I see you are both up and about, will you be joining me? are you on your way to bed, or are you just getting up?...
Good Friday morning, Everyfriend. There's Eggs Benedict to accompany your coffee or tea. Make it a good day!!:smitten:

Food For Thought
It IS the Thought that Counts
(By Kerry Doyal) Great news: Deepening your mark for Christ on others can be very easy! Expanding your impact for God is not usually complicated. Brace yourself for a cheesy phrase on how to increase impact for the Lord. I hope you will stick around for an explanation. Here's the cheese: "Put your mind to it and then just do it."
For those still with me, I even have a verse that will justify everything. Pitiful, huh? My assumption is that you desire to maximize your service for Christ seen in changed lives by His grace. That is where we are heading, but first, a story:
Paul, an apostle of Jesus, is in jail - again - this time in Rome. Always the disciple-maker, he is writing letters to churches he has served. One is a joy-filled thank you note to the church he started in Philippi. These generous souls had supported him many times in the past, but most recently they lost contact with Paul.
Concerned about his babies - believers he was growing into maturity - Paul had sent co-laborers to check on various churches' health. Epaphroditus stopped in on the church in Philippi and was glad to see they were doing well. They were glad to hear news about Paul and be able to reconnect. Seizing the opportunity, they sent a gift back to Paul via Epaphroditus. They once again had a chance to show their love through support.
With this backdrop, we better appreciate Paul's words in Philippians 4:10, 11, 14. "But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now at last you have revived your concern for me; indeed, you were concerned before, but you lacked opportunity. Not that I speak from want... Nevertheless, you have done well to share with me in my affliction" (NASB).
The Message reads: "I'm glad in God, far happier than you would ever guess - happy that you're again showing such strong concern for me. Not that you ever quit praying and thinking about me. You just had no chance to show it. ... I don't mean that your help didn't mean a lot to me - it did. It was a beautiful thing that you came alongside me in my troubles."
Expressed thoughtfulness touches people deeply - even the mature, confident, competent, content types, like Paul. Though their gift was appreciated, it was their concern, their thoughts of him that was valued most. "Thanks for thinking of me!" he writes. "Not that I was in need because, I have learned to be content. Nevertheless, your gift was appreciated. It was a sweet smelling sacrifice that pleases God" (vs. 18).
That is lofty language. Thus my cheesy ministry advice: "Put your mind to it and then just do it." When we keep people in our hearts and minds and then express it, we set off parties of praise to God. Prisoner Paul "mega-rejoiced." So do people when you revive your concern for them by expressing it in any one of thousands of ways (chocolate being near the top of the list :) ).
Practical acts of kindness encourages others and prompts praise to God. Though Paul had learned contentment - how to live with a little or lots - he was still stirred by their present. They remember him. He was not forgotten. They had ongoing love for him and their gift was proof. Hallelujah.
Which life-prisoners would throw a party of praise if you were to let them know you still thought of them, loved and appreciated them? A card, a call, an e-mail, flowers, a txt msg, a gift, dark chocolate. Simple words and acts of love leave deep marks. Some two thousand years later, we still hear echoes of Paul's thanks.
Are people disposable or expendable to you? They serve your purposes for a season and then you are done - moving on. "Next!" Hold on a moment, please. The Greatest commandment was to love God. Number Two was to love people, as much as we already love ourselves - untold bunches.
People are precious and fragile- they need love, to be remembered, respected and thanked. Many folks are often refueled with hope and purpose by someone simply saying "thanks, good job, I appreciate you, care for some chocolate?"
God's love for us was shown in giving His one-of-a-kind, only-one-qualified Son to die for us rebels. He considered our need and - dare I put it so blandly - did something about it. He did not simply hatch a plan back in eternity; He acted on it, conveying His glory, grace and covenant love. Just maybe He is a worthy model to emulate.
Soap box alert: We have gotten so used to doing ministry via church programs - which can be great tools of God - that we forget to love on people outside the "ministry" we have. "They are not in my class. Sorry." It seems God only works in 13-week segments, in hour-long blocks inside church buildings. We do our thing and are through for the week. Thus the anemic church (please read Ephesians 4:11-16).
Extending and deepening your ministry is not hard: show genuine concern for others in practical ways. Do you keep-up with people or forget them? What long-lost friend, old teacher or student can you track down and convey your love, respect and fond memories?
Who do you need to let know that they are in your thoughts and prayers? Seems that telepathy is faulty stuff. Thinking it is not enough. Thus the profound advice: "Put your mind to it and then just do it."
Okay, all the cards on the table: yes, this is Pastor appreciation month (did I mention chocolate?). But, pastors are not the only ones who need blessing. After you thank current and former Shepherds, keep going (read James 2:14-17; 1 John 3:16-20). How about that Camp Director, neighbor, Sunday School teacher, Queen of the Casseroles, Deacon, Elder, nursery worker, Youth worker, Mom, Dad, secretary, bus driver...?
It was in response to the kindness of these same Philippians that Paul wrote: "And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Now to our God and Father be the glory forever and ever. Amen" (Phil. 4:19, 20 - NASB). Amen indeed! Now, go get 'em.
Thought of the Day
"The greatest proof of Christianity for others is not how far a man can logically analyze his reasons for believing, but how far in practice he will stake his life on his belief."
- T.S. Eliot

Good morning Joan, I have been up since 3:30. I am now heating water to wash, went to take a shower last night and found I have no hot water. I could not sleep. I am suppose to be at Homemakers in Jamesport at 9, as there is a meeting, the speaker is from the Senior center. I also have to finish teaching my knitting class. I already have coffee on.
Lindancer we had the same problem a couple weeks back. we lucked do not know why but it had thrown the circetbreaker all had to do was push for a reset and weight for it to heat the water,
Have a great day.
Lloyd
Good morning everyone
Nice to sleep in a bit!! I did wake and peek at he clock but it was only 3:45 so I stayed in bed and went back to sleep!
Not sure what the day will bring other than the usual chores. I did manage to finish another quilt top last night and now just have the binding to make for it.
Joan, thank you for breakfast.
Enjoy your day everyone.
Good morning, Linedancer. Bummer to have to heat water to clean up. Enjoy your outing to the meeting and to teach the knitting class.
Lloyd--Good morning. I wonder whether Linedancer has an electric or a gas hot water heater.
Good morning, Amy. Nice you could go back to sleep after waking so early. I hope your husband is sleeping well as he continues his recovery.
Good Morning Everyfriend! It's 36º right now and only supposed to go into the low 60s today but it's also supposed to be sunny. This is my favorite weather!
My only plan for today is my 4-hour shift at WM. I wish you all a pleasant day filled with whatever you wish!
Good morning, Janie. Great that you have the kind of weather you like. Hope all the folks in your line at WM today are wearing a smile.
Thank you, Joanie. That would make my day! And thank you for all the goodies this morning. I think I got that form letter a couple of times. :2funny:
Janie--Glad you liked today's "stuff". I, too, have received variations of that letter.:)
Good morning everyone, hope you are all fine and dandy on this cool sunny morning. The sun is now hitting the swamp maples in front and the leaves look like shining rubies. That is my beautiful view at this time of year. Of course if I looked down I would just see cars. Had politicians here at suppertime, they supplied a chicken dinner from a restaurant noted for their dinners, Chicken is what they specialize in. I was surprised there was not a lot of speeches. They introduced themselves and that was about it. I knew the parents of a couple of them. We have 2 power plants in town and now the governor wants another even bigger one to come in here. Most everyone in town is against it because of the pollution. Some of those here last night have been in town for 6 generations and want to keep it with clean air. There used to be a polio hospital here because the air was so clean.
JUNE you know what they say about cold feet, “cold feet warm heart†that fits you. Like you my feet are always cold except in summer.
JOAN when I booted up this morning I had something I never saw before. It had a message -cleaning up, do not shut down. Heck I clean out junk every night and after all these years I never saw that message before. I have not downloaded anything new either since it came back from HP. It is good to be with other people as much or as little as I like. I grew up in a big family so there was always a lot of others around. I know where I was before I liked being near my son but my social life was with the Nest and then here in the SS. Especially when I could no longer drive.
SANDY I have not seen any of the new shows this season. I really do not watch much TV.
JANE like you I usually say something about what the weather is like here. Glad Kiran still enjoys reading. I remember when you first took her to the library. Is that biography of Gene Kelly a library book? I always thought he was a better dancer than Fred Astair. I know, different styles, but I always enjoyed his movies.
JUNE I have a picture that BUNNIE did of everyone that posted in the Nest. I had printed it out and I have it in a frame and I do look at it every day. We were a large group then. I remember making a Christmas tree and the faces of all of us were on it like ornaments. Of course BIS was the star at the top. I think I still have that on the external.
JOAN will enjoy eggs Benedict this morning, better than my usual oatmeal. Yikes Chuckles, wonder how many would fall for an email like that. I am too much a Doubting Thomas to fall for anything. Food for Thought should have many thinking about those who were lost contact with. Thank you for all today's goodies.
GLORIA de no fun when you go to take a shower and no hot water. That has happened here and the reason why they just put in a new much bigger water heater.
LLOYD good morning.
AMY glad you got to sleep later this morning.
JANE Sunday night we might get down to 32 and by mid week will be in the mid 70's. Will wait and see.
Good morning, Gloria. I do miss the leaves changing color. I remember that picture of those that posted in the Nest. Sadly some are no longer with us. I never had a "cleaning up" message on my computer. That's strange. How nice that the politicians provided a chicken dinner for the residents.
Hi everyone on another clear and beautiful 66 degree morning here in South Carolina. I basically have my normal morning chores done for today and as soon as Pat gets up I will fix her some scrambled eggs and the strawberries she likes as well as her coffee.
The calendar is clear for today. However I plan to put together a couple of casseroles that we will freeze to take to the church bazaar next Wednesday. Pat has a recipe for a Tator Tot recipe that is good. I will have to brown a couple of pounds of hamburger with two chopped onions and then layer the other ingredients which involves frozen vegetables, cream of mushroom soup and cheddar cheese. At the first of the week we will fix a cake to take also. Yesterday after Pat's chiropractic appointment I fixed a meatloaf and acorn squash to go with the coleslaw I had made yesterday morning and we had it for dinner.
Hal, yes Pat is going to continue the Chiropractic treatments following the plan outlined by the chiropractor. She has one more month of three times a week appointments and then will have a reduced schedule of treatments that should taper down to maybe once a month to maintain her back. I just want her to be feeling better so she can enjoy life again. The last couple of months haven't been very enjoyable as they have been painful and caused her to miss the normal things she likes to do like working on her quilting, going to church and participating in her crafts group at church. About the only things we have been able to do, other than the chiropractor, is go out to eat a few times.
Jackie, Jeanne Lee hadn't been out of the hospital but for a few days. She has access to the Internet via a laptop or a tablet or smart phone as she was able to post briefly again yesterday as well as let Pat know she was back in the hospital.
Gloria, some of the things that are being done with drones and robots are surely unbelievable and get they are happening. It seems like drones just exploded on the scene but obviously people had been working on them for quite awhile.
Sandy, we love the ability to fast forward through those long commercial breaks when we have recorded programs.
JaneS, I find comments about the weather conditions in other locations to be interesting. The contrasts between areas of the country I find fascinating. However, glad I live in the South and don't have to worry about snow and seldom ice. That is a wonderful things you are doing in taking Kiran to the library as that will be of benefit her entire life.
Good morning, Larry. You sure are becoming quite the chef--meatloaf, scrambled eggs, tater tot casserole, baking a cake etc. Bet you even have a chef's apron.:)
Good Morning Everyone!
Well old tail end Charley (Me) finally go here. Actually I read most of the post early this morning but didn't post. I wanted to get down to get my new windshield sticker for vehicle registration. I wanted to beat the crowd but that didn't work out too good. I go to the local super market and they can handle it, first I had a hard time finding a parking spot and then I wanted to pick up a coffee cake for breakfast and when I went to check out there were two people in front of me and the cashier was taking her time. Anyhow then when I got to service desk there was only one window open and that lady was taking her time. Anyhow, finally got things handled and went over to get gas, no problem there just had to fill up (1.89 a gal) and came on home. Wife informed me she had already fixed herself something to eat.......so I ate alone....
Larry, obviously you and Pat think the treatments are helping. Hopefully now that she is up and about she will improve rapidly. I hope so.
Gloria, the big question: was the chicken good?
Yard guy here, got to go.
Shirley ......

".......now that Toshiba is being sold."
I must have missed that in the news.
Good morning from the Interior! No sign of snow here although the leaves have long fallen and temperatures dropped. We do not even have fresh snow on the mountains. After such a soggy excuse for a summer, autumn is very enjoyable! Our "usual" first snow is generally just before Halloween. I say usually because nothing weatherwise is typical anymore.
June you can always have someone copy your photo of the Internet group into a drive that allows you to use your computer to access it and send it to whom you please.
Joan, I enjoyed your "form letter," this morning. I no longer use Wordpad or Notepad to copy and paste an item I wish to save. I have a "screen grab," application that allows me to capture either an entire page, section, or just a visual part of a page.
The application then asks if I want to save it as a photo or PFD. Then it asks where I want it saved. This way I have a copy of what I want saved, in my documents folder to keep or send with an email.
For someone like me who has trouble physically using a computer, (I use a program that allows me to operate the computer verbally); not using WordPad or Notepad, saves time, trouble and effort! I do enjoy your chuckles. Bis's Nest was one of my regular reads from SeniorNet.
Good Morning all, I am not yet awake even though I have not been asleep since five this morning. I can't believe how tired one can get when doing nothing. I think it was all the anticipation of waiting for my kids to arrive all day yesterday, and they finally got here so we could all have supper together downstairs and a nice chatty visit afterwards. They left here about nine o'clock,so I went to bed early. Today they are going to be touring with Gary and Dori. They will pick me up this afternoon to go to Gary and Dories home where she will have a good supper for us and more visits. They plan to leave early tomorrow morning from here to get through the So. Ca. traffic and then spend another night at their favorite motel in Moro Bay. They had planned to stop here to say goodbye on Sat. but since they had such a time getting through L.A. traffic they wanted to leave very early, which suits me fine...I HATE saying "goodbye".
So I will have a fairly quiet day here which suits me fine. I am still weary physically for some reason.
halkel--Too bad most everyone you had to deal with this morning was in slow motion.
Hi Donklan.
Good morning/afternoon Angelface. That "screen grab" sounds interesting.
June--GREAT that you are enjoying every minute of your kid's visit.[/color
Jackie. When you are up at 5:50 am in UK it is still the prior day 11:50 PM for such as myself here in the Midwest. I would be fast asleep still. 6 hour difference. For June who I believe is California would be 9:50 PM I believe. They are 2 hours behind me and the East is 1 hour ahead of me. Crazy country for keeping time here. Not like UK where all seems to stay the same. Small country. My State is larger than it. Think Illinois is about 490 miles NS and about 300 plus EW.
JeanneP, why do you say we are a crazy country in keeping time? I am in the EDT zone, the same as New York. June is three hours behind me. Would you expect New York and California to be on the same time? I do think Michigan should be in the Central zone, but that is not up to me. The UK being smaller can have every county/shire in the same zone, but it would be ridiculous here.
Mary Ann
We are four hours behind the east coast and Michigan, two hours behind the west coast, and 12 hours behind Israel. We are waking up when most of you folks are either lunching or getting off work. Jackie and Bubble are starting to post as I'm ready for my bed!
These are my newest great granddaughters. They are identical twins! They belong to my granddaughter, Crystal, from Arizona.
Hi Everyfriend! I got home from work earlier, had lunch, gave the doggies a snack, let them out, read some of my book and then caught a few zzzs. I've been doing some research on the computer and trying to clean up my desk a bit. And now Mickie is sitting in the doorway trying to sound pathetic enough to let me know it's time for her supper.
JUNE, I'm so glad you had a nice visit with your family.
LARRY, I'll keep on giving the weather report for you so you can tell yourself that you're glad you don't live where I do. Although you would have loved today! it got into the mid 60s and the sun is still shining. I came home from work without wearing my jacket! The weekend is supposed to be in the mid 70s and making it to 80 on Sunday. My kind of Autumn!
Lloyd, I'm sure the babies are gorgeous but all I can see is a pink hat. Darn old eyes!
I'll try to come back later and see what ya'll are up to!
LLoyd.....
Those twins are gorgeous!!!
Sandy
:woohoo:
JeanneP--I have trouble keeping track of what time it is where all our participants reside.
Mary Ann--I simply have trouble keeping the time zones correct.
Lloyd--I know the twins are beautiful babies, but I don't see any image.
Janie--Glad you got a nap and some research done after work. Your sweet doggies have built in clocks.:) You see a pink hat? All I see is text.
Sandy--What browser are you using to see Lloyd's picture?
I "refreshed" and now see the adorable babies.
Since my kids are still busy with one another, I went down to the party for eight of our residents that 100 years of age or more. It was a really full Full House. They served Cider, cheese, crackers and fruit for a snack and had a huge cake for the Birthday folks and their guests. It was quite inspiring.
I have done nothing but loaf and read and snack today, and enjoyed myself thoroughy. Looking forward to a trip to Gary and Dories to have supper with the four of them and then a good visit, till I get tired out. then Gary will take me home.
Bis, I saw a young man, presumably the father, holding the twin babies, and then another of the babies in their little hospital beds. I'm on my iMac, and my browser is Safiri.
Lloyd, great pictures of the proud Dad/daughters and the precious twins in their hats.
Every time I see a Facebook post from Ellen with an early a.m. time, I have to remember it's an hour later in New York.
Nothing of interest going on in my little corner of the world. Ho Hum.
Lloyd, the babies are beautiful and just look at the smile on the daddy!!!
Had the fire going this morning so put a pot of soup on to cook, then made some raisin bread. Took one loaf to the neighbours and while there trimmed their dogs feet. :smitten: that dog!
Just going to rest tonight.
Enjoy your evening everyone.
Lloyd, I was able to enlarge the picture of Dad with the twins, but could not do that with the babie's picture. I didn't notice that the hats were pink, either. Anyway, congratulations to the happy family.
Mary Ann
Lloyd - Beautiful babies and what a happy looking Daddy!
I was able to open both pictures by clicking on the thumbnail photos.
Today was a strange day for me. We got ready to drive 15 miles to the dentist to have a tooth extracted. It had been through two crowns and a root canal and then broke off at the gumline. (not the first time this has happened to me!) At the last minute I re-checked my appointment card only to find out I had the wrong day! I had already taken an ativan (for anxiety)! It made me want to sleep all day! It finally wore off late this afternoon. Now I have to repeat this performance on Monday. ::)
Good night all!
Thank for all the praise. sorry not up to par on what is visible. grand daughter posted for us and did all she could with what she had to work with.

Don, I was just sick when I ran across these sites..... I was ready to try again to get a new laptop but can't bring myself to buy a different type. Nothing I have tried at any of the stores has a keyboard that springs back to type as fast as Toshiba. Last time I ordered from Toshiba Direct but the one they sent (& it was not a cheapie) didn't have the wi-fi built in. Took my son a whole day to convince their tech help that it just wasn't there. He could take them deeper into the innards than any of the techs could go, so they gave me a full refund. This time I was going to get one through Best Buy, to let them set it up, etc. & figured I'd have to order to get what I wanted. My youngest son was trying to break the news to me gently that "most don't come with DVD & CD reader & writers..... ".... & I naively explained that I'd get them to order the way I wanted it built, having done that online before. Best Buy didn't list any Toshiba laptops online. So I started digging & sobbing.....

Lloyd, those are darling babies and since we have met, I will tell you that I do think they look like you already! They sure look nicely filled out for twins.
Joan, I'm using Google Chrome & a click on the thumbnails bring them up a good size.
We've had enough cool days that I started moving clothes around from summer to winter... and back to the 80s again this week end & next week. Does not make me happy. Gee... I sound like such a whiner tonight. I'll get a head adjustment & be back later.
Oh, Beverly, my stomach did a flip at your tooth problem. I had one break off at the gum & was "sweating bullets" when the dentist took it out. My heart goes out to you, along with a prayer & hug.
Amy, have a good rest tonight girl. You sound tired.
Beverly, isn't that frustrating when you get a date mixed up, and especially an important one with that broken tooth. The dentist should pay you for all the bad luck you have had with the crown. Darn !
I am back from a visit the Gary and Dories lovely home. They had it all re=done two years ago, and it is so lovely. I really enjoyed myself, but I hate to be parted from Dan and Nancy. They will leave early tomorrow and drive straight through to Santa Cruz. Dori sent home a big packet of her homemade Spaghetti and salad. Scumptious. I will enjoy it tomorrow. I do hate to be separated from my kids, but that is a part of loving….letting them go.
I will be going to an early bed so I will bid you all a goodnight, God Bless, with Love, hugs and prayers. June
Good Night Everyfriend and may God bless us, every one!
JANE S....
...Click on Lloyds baby photos to bring them up larger...such a pair of cuties...but then all new baby's are... :)
Good Saturday morning, Everyfriend. There's bear claws to accompany your coffee or tea. I wish everyone a good day!!:smitten:

Out of GasAfter finishing an out-of-town errand, I discovered that my car wouldn't start because it was out of gas.
A passer-by told me there was a service station a half-mile away, so I took a gas can from the trunk and trudged the distance in the sweltering sun.
The attendant filled my two-gallon can, and I lugged it back and poured the gas into the tank. But when I tried to unlock the car door, it wouldn't open. Just then, I noticed an identical old car parked a short distance away. That was my car; I had filled a stranger's gas tank.
Wearily I walked back to the station. "You know," the attendant suggested helpfully, "instead of walking back and forth to fill the tank from the can, you could put a couple of gallons in the tank and then drive the car here."
Food For Thought
Taking God’s Care for Granted
By Joel Vande Werken
Scripture Reading: Jeremiah 5:20-24 Let us fear the Lord our God, who gives autumn and spring rains in season, who assures us of the regular weeks of harvest.
Jeremiah 5:24
Little children are full of questions: “Why does the corn grow? How does a seed sprout?†They are filled with wonder at the miracle of creation and of all living things.
But adults often forget the wonders of creation. We take for granted that seeds sprout and plants grow. Agricultural advances shelter many of us from the worst effects of drought, disease, and insects that kill crops. Many city dwellers rarely give a thought to the wonders of harvesting. It’s as if food simply -appears on grocery store shelves.
Scripture pleads with God’s people to remember the source of every blessing, to see his hand of provision in rainfall, in the harvest season, and in the working of creation in general. We are far more dependent on God’s grace than we often think. And our failure to acknowledge him is not just ignorance. It is sin.
Sin deprives us of good because it keeps us from seeing God in all his goodness to us. Human relationships suffer when we take them for granted. And when we look at the world without seeing God, we miss out on God’s goodness.
Jesus came into this world to help us see again the goodness of the Father. Won’t you pray that he helps us to recover our wonder at God’s care for us?
Gracious God, we repent of taking your care for granted. Help us not to look at the growing world without seeing you at work. Open our eyes, for Jesus’ sake. Amen.

Good Morning Everyfriend! And a special "Good Morning" to you Joanie and to you also Jackie! Here we are again, the 3 Js. It hasn't been happening so much lately but it was bound to happen again!
Right now the temp is 35º in Central PA. We are expecting a high of the mid 60s today. I have nothing special planned for today but I'll have to see what I can get into! Maybe I'll go get the meat for my veggie soup and get that cooking today. If I don't get it started pretty soon, I won't have any to eat "when the snow flies". And I'm hungry for some right now. It's beginning to be "soup weather". I think I'll pick up some sweet potatoes at the Farmer's market tomorrow and make some of Radioman's sweet potato soup.
How's that HAL? You wanted to know what I'm doing for "when the snow flies"
I better feed the doggies now. They are starting to shift from foot to foot to tell me they're getting impatient for their breakfast. Have a wonderful day, Everyfriend and do whatever pleases you.
Good morning, Janie. Nice to have the three "J's" here. Oh my--35° is cold. Do you have your heat on? Soup weather for sure. Yours sounds so good. I should give thought to making some.
Good morning everyone, a 34° reading this morning, wind chill feels like 28°, a killing frost and now we can get Indian summer. Bu mid week they are saying upper 70's here, I looked out and saw frost on everything.
JOAN that was the first time I saw that cleaning up message, not there this morning.
LARRY I have an acorn squash I want to stuff, have to wait for my son to come so he can cut it in half for me. One of my grandsons has a drone and he attached a camera to it to take photos of the landscaping he does, something good to show new clients and build up his business. Glad the Chiropractor is helping Pat.
HAL always seemed to be lines no matter what time I went to get my car inspected. At one time many gas stations could do the inspections but then the state set up a few places in the state and that is where we have to go now.
JUNE I know you enjoyed the visit with both your sons and their wives.
PATRICIA nothing usual in the weather here either this year.
JANE sure cannot complain about the weather right now. Cool for sleeping and comfortable in the days.
LLOYD the twins are beautiful, Dad looks happy holing them. Enlarged both pictures.
JOAN when my daughter first moved to California I had trouble with the 3 hour time difference. Now that they are living in Arizona will have to get used to the time there, Thy do not change to daylight saving time. Wish we didn't either.
SHIRLEY I just got winter clothes out and summer ones put away. I did keep a few summer things out, never can tell about the weather here.
JOAN I will enjoy a bear claw, love 'em. Your quote is so true. Thanks for all today's goodies.
JANE today is a good day for soup.
Good morning everyone..
Have laundry out on the line and a few more loads to go. Will try and get those pines needles raked up and take them to the dump today.
Need to run, washer just stopped..
Joan, thank you for breakfast.
Enjoy your day everyone.
Good Morning everyone. Gloria some worked alright and some not these computers are good but seam to have a mined of there own. Have a great day everyone.I have been working on putting the engine back together for my skid steer, seams i keep coming up short a bolt or two they are metric so i have to keep going to town for them. (slow going)
Lloyd
AMY you are a tough Lady doing wash on line thi time of year. carfule you do not take cold.
Lloyd
Good morning, Gloria. With 34° do you have your geemogotchees out? I used to fix stuffed acorn squash--haven't done so in ages. I stuff mine with sausage. I really dislike the time changes. Wish they'd pick either DST or ST and keep in year around.
Amy--Good morning. Your hands must get very cold hanging clothes out in your cold weather. I hope your husband continues to do well with his recovery.
Good morning, Lloyd. I know keeping your machinery running takes lots of time.
Bis i am with you on time changes. I see no mareits in it,
Lloyd
we all know our grand's and g great grand's are great fun. yesterday when Nicole was here helping me with computer had her children with her ; Braxton is coming three years old. we keep a candy dish on the hutch, normally on bottom shelf in reach, but when the young are here it gets raised to a higher level so they cant over eat. Braxton went over there and walked back and forth untill he figured out it was up . he got grma by hand and led her over by it and pointed to it and whispered please. so he thought his Mother wouldn't hear and say No. I sure laughed. and gram over ruled mom. he got candy.
Lloyd
Hi everyone on an overcast Saturday morning with mild temperature here in South Carolina. I awoke at 4:30 this morning and wasn't able to go back to sleep. About 6 I picked up my phone and started reading the email and then the postings here and in the Seniors and Friends and other discussions that I follow. Pat got up early this morning and have fixed her a breakfast of scrambled eggs with ham, cheese green onions and peppers. This was a large breakfast.
This evening we are planning on going to Pizza Hut for our main meal of the day. Pat likes the chicken wings and I will probably have a pizza or pasta dish. I plan on having an easy day today as yesterday turned out to be very busy. We did get the casserole dish made and it is in the freezer until Wednesday morning when I will take it to the church. I plan on watching college football this afternoon and taking a nap. Not an exciting day but one I am ready for.
Joan, no I don't have a chef's apron. Think I am aways from being ready for it. :)
Hal, your gas is cheaper than ours. The last fill up I had here last week was $2.00/gallon. I also hope Pat finds enough recovery so that she can do a few things.
Patricia, what screen grab program do you use?
June, nice to read you had such a good time with your family although expect you were beat when you got back to your apartment. I hope Dan and his wife got through L.A. without too much trouble.
Lloyd, I was able to see the picture by also just clicking on them. Those are beautiful babies and that was certainly a proud father. I hope they bring much joy to your family. Your little grandson knew great grandmother couldn't resist the request.
JaneS, your weather sounds delightful. It did get a little warm here yesterday but much better than in the 90s.
JaneS, do you can your vegetable soup? I don't mind soup or chili the whole year round although agree it is particularly good during the winter months.
Gloria, I know what you mean about cutting into the acorn squash. Once I got the knife started I had no further problems. We really enjoyed eating it after it had baked in the oven.
Joan, I am with you on the Daylight Savings Time. It won't be long before we switch again.
LARRY, I do can the vegetable soup and there's always enough of it to give some to the kids for Christmas. We have an outreach committee project where people donate 4 quarts of soup on their choice of the first Sunday of the month and it is sold between the two church services. I do my bit for this project and there are people who order my vegetable soup ahead. This group of people is referred to by other church members as "The Order of the Golden Ladle" It's kind of fun and helps the Community Outreach program!
Good Saturday morning to all the friends here. And a good morning to you, Joan.
I have not checked in here for a couple days. I have been trying to limit my time "sitting" at the computer. My legs have been swelling and giving me a fit for a few days, so I figured it was from sitting so long at the computer. So, I have been setting my timer for a certain amount and when it goes off, I get up and try doing something else. It is really amazing how quickly the time goes by and you hardly know that you have been sitting so still for several hours.
I know I have missed out on some of the activities of a lot of you. I hope all is well with everyone.
I plan on going out for dinner this evening with one of my son's and grandson. We are going to a favorite place that serves really delicious "sour beef and dumplings". Some of you will know it as "sauerbrauten" . I used to make it for many years, but we found this restaurant that makes it "almost as good as mine" so we have been going there for a few years now. It was my husband's favorite meal and I used to make it for his birthday every year and have his whole family. Used to be about 15 for dinner. Not really that difficult to make..........just very time consuming. Haven't made it for a long time now that we have found this restaurant. Looking forward to going. Will be nice to catch up with my son and grandson.
Have a good day.
Joy
Lloyd--Cute how your great grandson managed to get some candy.:)
Good morning, Larry. Maybe you aren't ready for a chef's apron, but your meal preparation skills have certainly multiplied. I do dread changing time soon.
Janie--Your church's outreach project is commendable. "The Order of the Golden Ladle" is catchy.
Good morning, Joy. My husband's favorite meal was sauerbrauten, too. His mother made it often for all those growing boys. I'd never had it until we married. His mother invited us one night when they were having it. Nope--didn't like it, so I told husband when he wanted it to go to his mother's house.:)
Good Morning Everyone!
Well this old week is about finished, never to return. And all this talk about food, well my mouth is watering.
Janie, I will make the cornbread to go with that soup. One thing I do love is good old fashion veggie soup, actually more like hash, when I have made it. I cook the meat slow and long and it really just falls apart in the soup and I don't scrimp on the veggies and like Larry said, on a cold day, hmmmmmm, good.
Wonder why I never ate any sauerbrauten when I was stationed in Germany. It sounds delicious. One thing they had which I loved was their herb butter. Especially with steak. Don't know what the German name for it was.
Lloyd, these kids know how to work us old folks, don't they? We are watching, well actually the IPad is watching, one of our twin grgrandsons this morning. His brother is playing basketball and this one is autistic and always wants to run out on the court to play with his brother. He is one great kid, until he get frustrated and then he gets really upset. But all my grands can bring a smile to my face in a New York minute. Now I know why it was worth keeping my kids....LOL.....so I could enjoy the Grandkids.
Larry, like you I plan on watching some college football today. Seems like they have all the games at night that I would prefer but don't want to push my luck.
Joanie, did you get all the mess cleaned up outside yet. I suppose everyone is trying to get things back to normal. I have some kind of problem with my grass in the back, cinch bugs maybe, got to get someone in to look at it and spray or something. Or just ignore it and wait till spring.
I don't recall seeing anything posted from Amy this morning. Hope no sitback for her hubby.
For all I may have missed, not intentional just need to get cleaned up.
Good morning everyone! I slept five hours last night, actually this morning and the way it's been going, that's an accomplishment!
Larry, I use both Screengrab and sometimes Capture page. They are both browser apps rather than independent programs, you can use both, independent or browser, and direct the results to where you would like to store them.
I always first check to see what a screen grab program has that I want and independent customer reviews go a long way with my decision. Company sponsored reviews are usually pretty easy to spot. There have been programs or apps that I liked until I saw some customer reviews.
Generally, you would want a range of options, full page, section or just the visible part; and a range of choices as to where you may place the information and or photos, where you want to store it.
I store everything in my Documents section of my Dropbox app, so it is on their bandwidth. That way, if I lose my computer or purchase new, that information is saved and retrievable.
I also have a 3T external drive that is a mirror of my computer. That drive is only connected to the computer when I am downloading, so it is never vulnerable for long
Good morning Hal, I'm lazy. Normally I premake the dry portions of cornbread or biscuits, bag them and just add the wet ingredients when I'm ready to use them. Cornbread from an iron skillet is always a pleasure, but particularly good in cold weather
Joan, it is 17 degrees out there but 80 in here. I never turn on my heat anymore as my apartment is surrounded. I do have a mini heater that I sometimes will turn on to heat the area I'm at if it gets really cold and the air comes in around my balcony doors. I haven't used the heater since February 2014, but it is there in case of need..
Angel, I like to make the cornbread muffings or corn sticks. I love the crusty part better than anything. With lots of butter or in cold milk......
Hal, yes to the butter, no to the cold milk as I am lactose intolerant. With parents from Missouri and Kansas, we ate tons of cornbread with beans, hot dogs or sausage, any type of main dish basically. Mom would also make a cornbread casserole. I have a cast iron skillet that is set up to make those corn sticks and yes, the crust is the best part. Have you tried jalapeno corn muffins?
http://damndelicious.net/2014/02/08/jalapeno-cornbread-muffins/
I'm told you can buy a cornbread mix, but that to me is like buying premade jello or premade hard boiled eggs.
halkel--I didn't have to clean up anything outside. Only small tree limbs and palm fronds all over and the grounds crew will take care of those when they get to them. You can have my share of corn muffins/sticks. When I moved to Arkansas I was astounded to see people crumble up corn bread in a glass, pour in buttermilk and have it as a snack.
Angelface--Your building must be VERY well insulated if the outside temp is 17°, and it is 80° in your living quarters.
Joan, it is a dry 17 as we have little to no humidity here. Our plus 17 would be similar to your plus 40. It is the humidity that drives the chill.
I am on the fourth floor of a five-floor building and have apartments above, below and to each side of me. Many people, especially those "big, tough guys," have never turned on the heat.
This should be filed under the heading, "The things you learn!" I subscribe to a daily trivia email and today's question was, What color are you afraid of if you suffer from Xanthophobia?
The answer was,"Xanthophobia is fear of the color yellow. While, at first glance, this may seem like a foolish fear, it is real to the people impacted by this phobia. Xanthophobia derives from the Greek word “xanthoâ€, meaning yellow and “phobos†which means fear. The common cause of this phobia is traumatic experiences involving the color yellow, like getting stung by a bee or perhaps getting hit by a yellow car. Sufferers would not eat cheese, mustard, bananas, lemons, or anything that is yellow."
Patricia, yep, have eaten alot of Jalapeno corn bread. I never make it because the wife wont eat it. My Mom and others of her era used the old cast iron for making corn bread. They would get them smoking hot and pour the batter in and could hear it sizzle all over the house. But they made a hot bread, biscuits or corn bread with almost every meal. Light bread, or store bought bread, was used sometimes but mostly just as a standby bread. You can buy the pre-mix here for cornbread but you can sure tell the difference in taste and texture. I will mix my own, thank you.
My Mom was a great cook except for one thing, biscuits. Bless her heart they always came out hard as a rock and you could break a plate if you dropped one on it. She loved the tube biscuits, it saved her from having to try..... ;D
They have some great tube biscuits now days. Making good biscuits is an art in my humble opinion, one which my Grandfather could do to perfection. And he didn't measure anything and could make them in 10 minutes not including baking time.
By the way an old cowboy told me how you could cook Pinto beans in 10 minutes. They way they did when working cattle. You ground them in a coffee grinder and put them in boiling water. I suspect that was the beginning of refried beans. Although I have had many sandwiches made from beans after you mashed them up and put them between two slices of buttered bread, suspect you have to.
With a family of five and both parents working as well as hunting, fishing and utilizing an acre in a garden, all three of us girls were put to use.
Also my father, before WWII, briefly worked in a canning factory and would never eat anything out of a can after that. So we learned how to do all of that.
Nowadays I cheat by premixing all the dry ingredients to biscuits and cornbread, and I put the water, grease, flour, and milk into a blender before putting it into the skillet for milk gravy. All my skillets & pots are either cast iron or copper based aluminum. I never measure because I'm always making them ever since I was tall enough for the counter.
My guilty secret is piecrusts. I just can't make them. So like your mom and her biscuits, all my pies have store bought crusts.
Angelface, I can make the best pie crust you ever tasted....if no one is going to eat it but me. If I have to take it somewhere, it's either hard as a rock or underbake. You might say i'm erratic....that's what I say.
My grandfather owned and operated a bake shop when he met my grandmother and he was like HAL's grandfather with the biscuits. I didn't get that skill. My sister did! I can make them and they turn out pretty well but I follow a recipe EXACTLY! He also made the best pie crust you ever ate and so did my mother and so does my sister. She claims it is because I didn't pay attention and she's probably right.
I have the beef cooked for the veggie soup. Tomorrow, I'll make the rest of it and maybe get some of it canned. I'll finish the canning on Monday. Sometime Monday, I'll put some in the Hidey Hole for supper. HAL be sure the muffins are ready for Monday supper.
Gotta go feed everyone around here. Make the rest of your day good. Do whatever y'all wanna do!
Thank you for the TOSHIBA links, Shirley
Angelface--Thanks for the explanation about your temps. Interesting about Xanthophobia.
halkel--One thing I do make good is biscuits.
Angelface--The girls in your family sure were put to use. I can't make piecrust either. I tried and tried and failed piecrust making 101.
Janie--At least some of the time you make good piecrust. I check the "hidey hole" on Monday for soup.
You all are making me hungry! I love cornbread. I have an old cast iron skillet, which was my mother's, so once in awhile I make it by heating the pan in the oven first and then pouring in the batter. Like you said......nice and crispy. If I'm feeling lazy I use a glass pan. I especially love cornbread with chili or pea soup. Nice, thick, green pea soup! (Pea soup and johnnycake makes a Frenchman's belly ache!) In case anyone thinks I'm not being PC, my mother was French and taught that to me. ;)
When we lived in Oklahoma a friend of mine made the best jalapeno cornbread! She used creamed corn in the recipe.
Hal - I have something in common with your mother.....never could make a decent biscuit. The first ones I made after we got married you could have used as hockey pucks.
Angel and Joan - Like you I have never been able to make a good piecrust. I love those you can buy in the refrig. section and just unfold!
My granddaughter sent a jar of her homemade zucchini relish home with us. I wrapped it in bubble wrap and in the center of our suitcase. It survived! I used to make zucchini relish long before she was born and love it on hot dogs in a roll. That was our lunch today. Yum!
Temp here at 6:00 p.m. is 81. We should be getting cooler temps soon.
I am just dragging in at nearly six p.m. I have been soooo tired all day today, Did a lot of sleeping, and stayed at home with just one trip down to the clinic to pick up some meds.
I had half the food Dori sent home with me, and I still feel full. I think I'll just pass on a standard supper and have a light meal. She is such a Gooood cook. I am still rejoicing in my memories of having all my kids together. Getting me in and out of the car, Dan handled me like I was made of fine china. I guess he doesn't realize I am still pretty agile, but how nice to be so cared for.
All this talk of food. I have to admit that my cornbread came out of a boxed mix. I feel I should hide my head in shame when you connoisseurs speaking about how you make it and eat it. I have a feeling it was more a South and Western type of food that where I was raised in Mn. We were into a lot of yeast breads, rolls, donuts, etc.
Tomorrow is Church, so I had better make out my check, plus fill up my med boxes before I forget. The mind still wants to sleep.
My problem with cooking is that I was taught to "eye" the amounts and didn't use a written recipe until Home Ec. in my teens. Then later I became the magpie lusting after everything bright, shiny, and sparkling. In my case, if it looked good or sounded as if it might, into the recipe it went!
My older sister cooks the same way except she eats the odd items such as bugs, snakes, and raw fish. Octopi anyone? My younger sister met an Italian when she traveled Europe and spent two years in Florence. She attended Italian cooking schools, cooked in class in Paris, France and ran away with a man from Sofia in Bulgaria who also taught her a thing or two around a kitchen. Now she has a few papers hanging on the wall and she follows a recipe religiously.
My father was the baker, my mother the sous chef. One time, inexplicitly, she made a chocolate sheet cake with frosting so hard no one could cut through it. My older sister took some to school, offering twenty-five cents to whoever could break it or cut it. She never had to give up her quarter and my mom never repeated whatever she had done. My first bread loaf was beautiful inside and out, gleamed and smelled delicious. That is until you reach the center of the loaf which was hollow. I cried over that one. :'(
Both of my parents, farmers and woods folk, born and bred, could make a meal out of what they gathered along their walks. I could too if you didn't mind eating hospital food for a while afterward.....
angelface555 I am with you if it looks good taste it ,If it teats good eat it; Nancy tell me now they say

HAL, might it have been Kräuterbutter that you are speaking of on a steak?
Lloyd, sounds good to me!
Jenny, I often add spices and herbs to butter. Just roll it around or smash them together!
I am up and about, its now 3.30am here in UK, got woken up, cant get back to sleep, sitting here with a cuppa and keeping you company till its your bedtime in the US...must be near your bedtimes now? soon this forum will become deserted........
Good Night Everyfriend....and Good Morning Jackie!
May God bless us, Every ONE!
Jenny, I really don't know. All I know is that they brought it to the table and it was the same size and shape as a pound of butter and full of all kinds of herbs and such. It was delicious.
June, I follow the old original recipe printed on the corn meal box and it always turns out great. (Quaker yellow corn meal)
Hal, I no longer actually "cook". I left all my baking stuff behind when I moved here. I have learned how to make a fried egg in the microwave, and it is good, otherwise my cooking consists of frozen dinners, canned food that can be heated in the microwave, etc. I am entitled to three meals a day in our dining room, but I usually go down for just the noon meal, then bring a bunch of other stuff home for supper.
I have had a very lazy day, and several good naps, so tomorrow I will be a bit more active.
Have a good night my dear ones. I love you all and wish you God's very best Blessings. June
I have been keeping on the go since arriving in Austin. I think about you all and keep you in my prayers even when I do not post.
I have to tell you this puppy dog is a sweetly pie....HOWEVER his teeth are razor blades for sure. He doesn't mean to bite you, but it happens and this old skin bruises and bleeds so easy. He got me a few times the first couple of days, but now is very gentle with me. Bob's arms look like he stuck them through barbed wire!
We are keeping busy and enjoying a lot of good food. Yesterday we drove to Waco and visited the Magnolia Market. For those of you that watch HGTV show "Fixer Upper" you will know what I am talking about. It was a fun day and Puppy Oliver went with us and was a perfect traveler.
JACKIE, sorry you could not sleep.... hope your day will be better than your night.
It is late so I will say goodnight. Pleasant dreams to all.
Jenny
