Good afternoon, on another cheerful day.  I did not go to Homemakers to day, as I am still recovering from the three wonder days I had with my DIL.  Have to go to meeting next week, as I am teaching a class, how to knitt texing gloves.

Jane, Tuesday the day my DIL arrived from Mass. I had sauerkrat & bratwush plus potatoes, made in the crockpot. easy dinner.
Shirley and Beverly safe trips.

Joan, thanks for breakfast, sound good.

June, I am lucky with my two DIL's. Just like you.

Gloria, I go to bed about 10, read and watch TV, but it is between Midnight and 1 before I fall asleep.  We are also expecting a cool front for the weekend, and then  quite cool for the rest of the week.

I'm home from work, chased the doggies out and then gave them a snack and ate my lunch.  Now I'm ready to get up a searching party to look for zzzs on the sofa.  I'm REALLY tired today for some reason.  And I'm thankful for 3 days in a row to do whatever...

Linedancer--It sure is nice that you have such wonderful daughter-in-laws.

Janie--I already had my rest, and now can make it through the day.

Joan, Jane and Hal, lets say I  was in the pink. Of course I had to reach up so the liquid would run down my arms.....not a pretty sight.

Joan, no demerit points...I only chased dust bunnies  and then did some sewing :)

Lloyd, my husband was Polish and we lived for four years in a Polish neighborhood so I learned to eat Polish sausage and liked it. But my folks used Pork ribs, cooked with the sour kraut, and they were sooooo tender and good.

Larry, I am so glad you are feeling better and taking a day off. You have certainly earned it.

Bis, Yes, I seem to be the first on her list for cleaning, and she works her way on down the hall. I am the second door on my side of the hall, but my neighbor has a different cleaning lady. Some of them clean on different days too, depending on the time they moved in. I don't mind, as I'm usually awake for a while before she arrives. She does all the linen changes, then comes back for what she calls "deep" cleaning. Beds and baths and done weekly, deep cleaning is every other week.

Janie, I am not surprised you came home from work tired..you didn't feel all that great when you first started this morning. Is retirement in the near future for you ?

I went down for lunch today..had a jumbo salad. I am going back for supper though..they are having trout, and I can't resist that. Just hope I don't give out before then. Have to listen to the body..or else. A nice nap is calling to me, and a fresh book. :sleepy:
As long as we are here, let's dance.

JaneS

June, what does that word (retirement) mean?  I'm not familiar with it!

JoanFL

Amy--You must have been a sight.  OK--chasing dust bunnies doesn't count.:)

June--Thanks for explaining how housekeeping works there.  Oh yummy!!  I love trout.

Janie--It sure would be nice if you were able to retire.

June Drabek

Janie, I am not surprised you do not recognize retirement. If you live to be a hundred and five, I think you will still be putting "up" food, taking care of people, and raising puppy dogs. And I pray you will be able to enjoy your life all along the way. You are special, my friend.

Bis, the trout was very good, but a very thin fillet. I could have eaten three or four more slices, also very good scalloped potatoes. I didn't recognize the  oriental vegetable tho..rather tasteless. But I'm glad I went for dinner. Now I will return downstairs as I am curious about the entertainment. It is listed as "Documentary: Our Last Tango." If I'm still awake when I get back home, I will discuss it.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

JaneS

I'm on my way to Dreamland early tonight.  Tomorrow some friends and I are travelling to western PA to attend a memorial service for one of our classmates who died recently.  Daisy was one of the nicest people in our class.  I don't think I ever heard her say anything nasty about anyone and everyone loved her....agriculture boys, business students, academics and teachers alike.  She will be missed!

It's almost a 2 hour drive to where she lived and I'm taking my car but 3 of us will share the driving.  It might turn out to be a pretty drive because it's over the mountains into western PA.  It will be a sad trip but I always enjoy the time spent with my high school classmates.

Bed time for bozo.  Been a quite day and cant say I accomplished much.

Nite, nite, God Bless and Sweetdreams.

June Drabek

I really enjoyed "the Last Tango" even though the speech was in French, reading the printed caption was easy enough. It was sad. Related by the woman who was the dancer, for forty years she danced with the man she loved, but he did not love her. The dancing was fabulous.Tomorrow I have a program at 2 p.m. and another Hymn Sing Along with my Gary as guest performer on his guitar and his good loud singing voice. I'm really looking forward to that.

Time now to get to bed and book and sleep. Have a blessed night my friends. I send you Love and Prayers and big hugs. June.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Food For Thought

When You're Gasping for Air
(By Larry Eide)

I remember an incident as a boy when we were at the Oregon Coast, and I was knocked over by a wave. The back pull of the current was so strong that I couldn't regain my footing and was being dragged by the waves, gasping for air and thinking I was going to be dragged out to sea. Thankfully I wasn't, so that I'm able to write you these thoughts. But for a few moments of struggling on that Oregon beach, I had trouble catching a breath or getting control of the circumstances. Although it wasn't at a beach, my wife had a similar experience growing up on a farm in Iowa when she was playing around a grain bin while it was loading, lost her footing, fell in and was being covered by grain until noticed by her father and rescued from her crisis.

All of us have incidents and experiences and seasons in life when it feels like things are out of control and inwardly we're gasping for air, trying to catch our breath but feeling overwhelmed and a bit like the waves of worry, fear, sorrow, anxiety, depression, discouragement, or other emotions are sweeping over us and we're fighting a losing battle. If you're in one of those seasons, or when you are, take heart and have courage remembering the character, promises, and plans of God for you. When you're caught up in the experience or immediate circumstance it's easy for that to become your main focus, but returning to the big picture in your heart and mind will bring renewed strength, hope, and courage to catch your breath, regain your footing, and find the ability to move forward and through the circumstances.

I experienced this personally during this summer season, which held many blessings for which I am deeply thankful, but also some heavy testings which related to the struggles of three of our children. As parents we naturally identify with them and carry their burdens with them, and at one point I found myself inwardly feeling like I was gasping for air, pleading for the mercy of Christ. It was in focusing on the character, promises, and plans of God for my children as well as my wife and I that I was able to regain my footing and move forward with confidence and courage.

Jesus has said that he will be with us always, that he uses all things to work for the good of those who love him, that he loves us and is accomplishing supernaturally a plan for our lives that is good and pleasing and perfect. It's important to remember that when the struggles of life start to overwhelm you and you feel like you can hardly catch your breath. At those times, take a deep spiritual breath and let the life and love of Christ renew you and let his strength be made powerfully evident in your weakness!

"Breathe on me, breath of God! Fill me with life anew, that I might love as you've loved & do what you would do! Help me BREATHE in Your Holy Spirit and exhale SELF. I can do all things in Christ, Who strengthens me!  In Jesus Holy Name!  Amen!  POW!

Good morning everyone, sell my son called me yesterday and he came and took me to Staples. Got a new keyboard, mouse and pad. Since I cannot get to the back of the PC anymore my grandson will be here later to unplug from the back of it and install the new ones.

JOAN  just heard by tomorrow morning it will be in the 40's, maybe I can get the AC put away for the season again and have the window area back again. Room is not that big that this portable is out almost 4 feet from the window, that takes a chunk of out of the room. There are some here who would like to order groceries like I do but they do not have computers and want nothing to do with them.

JUNE  glad my CNA  does not get here that early in the mornings. They start working at 6AM so they have to get up and out early.

GLORIA de  one thing I was never able to do was read in bed. I have to sit up to enjoy reading and I never had a TV in the bedroom.

JANE  enjoy a restful week end.

JOAN  breakfast looks good. Good Food for Thought.  Thank you for today's goodies.

JANE  a sad trip for you but know you will enjoy being with your friends.

AMY  just heard that tomorrow morning we will wake to the 30's Yesterday the high was 85°, big change fast.

Hi everyone on a bright and clear Saturday morning.  It is going to be warmer today getting up to about 90 degrees.

I am looking forward to mid-afternoon as I have a ticket to a Barbershop Chorus and Quartet Concert.  This is their annual concert and is being held out our church in our Fellowship Hall.  Other than that I will work on getting our dinner prepared and a couple of other projects accomplished.  Yesterday was a nice stay at home day and I got the washing done and the chili made among other things.

Gloria, I drink a small glass of cranberry juice every morning with my breakfast.  I sometimes get it with apple or grape mixed with it for a change.  I understand getting so exhausted that it takes all of my well power to just move around and hold my head upright.  Glad your have your CNA.  Not long ago the checker at COSTCO told me around 4 pm is usually a lighter time with fewer shoppers.

JaneS, glad you have a few days off and hope you can get rested up.

June, Pat and I like salad meals with chicken, tuna or salmon salad on top of it with a lot of different vegetables.  I am going to make a Caesar Salad for dinner tonight to go with roast beef, broccoli and Cauliflower, cooked with cheese or lime juice on it and I will have mind raw.  Glad you got to enjoy the trout.

Joan, I really liked the "Thought of the Day".  The past is over and nothing we do can change it.  Deal with things at the time and then move on.

Amy, do you have a large sewing studio and a big stash of fabric?

Lloyd, you can't beat good neighbors who help one another.  That was the way things were when I was growing up on the farm.

Gloria, in this day and age not using a computer is certainly a detriment.  For all the problems that often come with computers I can't image life without them.  I can visualize your apartment as know how small the apartments that Stacey had were although her last one was so well set up that she could store away a lot of things that she had to have out in the first apartment house she lived in.

Amy

Gloria, I love the cooler weather, I had thought of painting the hallway today but it is so nice out that I think I will tidy up the flower beds. Have a ling full of laundry blowing in the wind...doggies blankets too!!!

Larry, I have a bedroom that is about 8 x 10 for my sewing room plus the overflow into another bedroom. All my stash is in 3  four shelved cupboards.so yes a wee bit of stash :)

Good Morning Everyone!

Janie, today, as someone said, will be a bittersweet one for you.  But for those of you, classmates, that will be attending together it will be a nice get together, so enjoy the living because we will join the others soon enough.

My friends obit was in the paper this morning.  Funny how people put things in the obits that have no real meaning to others.  I guess the writers write it more for themselves than the readers.  But I guess some things are always best left out.  In my friends case, he was raised pretty rough by a tough old father.  As we used to say he was raised pillar to post.  But he made something of himself and was quite successful in his life.  Strangely what he was most successful at, there was not a mention.  Oh, well.

Not to much on tap today, just watch some college football.  Our Great Grandson is over and staying with us this morning.  His twin brother is playing basketball and since this one is autistic and prone to get excited and try and run out on the court we are keeping him with us.  He is a good kid and keeps himself amused with the IPad.  Kid will more than likely be a wizzard one of these days on computers.

I have to laugh, my old dog gets so jealous of the kids.  She wants all the attention.  Nooooooo, she isn't spoiled, like fun, she isn't.

Everyone have a great day.  I have rambled, haven't I?

JoanFL

I was away from my computer most of the morning--unexpected visitor showed up and now it's again time to use my nebulizer.  I shall return.

Janie, May God bless your day. I am so glad you are with like-minded friends this day.

I have no plans till two o'clock for a program, then our Sing a long at 6:30 . A couple of meals in between. Since I am calling it a free morning I stayed in bed later, then took a nice long warm shower. Just let the water pour down and enjoyed. Then follows the chore of slathering on the lotion. But now I am sitting here reading messages with my eyelids drooping downwards.

Yesterday, I met a new resident coming off the elevator and asked him how he like his new life here at Rowntree. He frowned and said, "there is nothing here for me". It made me feel very sad. He is still on my mind today, and I was thinking I would like to ask him what his profession  was during his working life. There are various things here he could be involved in if he were interested in any of them. Volunteers are needed in many areas. Life is too short to not enjoy each day that we are given.

Larry, I am glad you spent a day at home for a change, but you were still pushing things…laundry and cooking both. I'm glad you will take a break this afternoon and enjoy the concert.

Gloria, I am making up for yesterdays early rising by being really lazy today. I may even skip the program at two this afternoon….I'll just see how it goes. I am so glad your son took you shopping. When I need something new for my Imac, I just order from Apple and they send it out by snail mail. I have purchased both a keyboard an a mouse that way. Plus a few other items.

Hal, I can understand your dog resenting any child or adult that takes you time away from her. Our last dog, Penny, was definitely Ed's dog. They grew old together. He spent hours in his recliner, in front of the t.v. and she was right there in the recliner with him. She really declined in a hurry after Ed's death.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

JoanFL

June--Our last dog was like your Petey.  If Ray was home, she was right in his recliner with him.  If Ray was gone, she simply tolerated me.  How sad that the new man you met at Rowntree is so depressed.

I'm back and it truly was a "bittersweet" day.  I don't think the conversation there or back lagged at all.  And the memorial service was beautiful.  We all know that we loved Daisy and would miss her and it was nice to find that there were lots of other people who knew here after we did who also loved her.

I'm really tired now and I'm going to take a short nap before the doggies begin demanding their supper.

I had something nice happen today.  When I went to Indy last week, a last minute thought had me including a ring I had bought perhaps 60 years ago.  When I went to put it on Sunday, I could not find the ring.  I looked in all of the luggage I had taken with me, but I could not find it.  Today I emptied out my purse which has five zippered compartments.  In the last compartment I could search, I found the ring.  Big relief.
