I still have a couple minutes before I must say Good Afternoon ..... Most of you get here so much before I'm even online, so when I come along everyone's ready to move on to other things.  That's okay.  I can entertain myself by just going over what y'all have been discussing.  I found the hidey hole, so I'm going to have some of that casserole, Jane S.  Thanks.

I wrote a post but I guess I forgot to post it, as others had posted in the mean time.  I am on the post page with 41 messages now to read.

We are having a cold and dreary day with occasional snow coming down.  No real need to go out, so it is not a bother.

CALLIE, sorry about your having to purchase a new w/d....but it is important to have clean clothes!  Dr. Dave had a new patient yesterday.....in talking to her he found out she is from Leadville, and is related to us.  She and her hubby owed the Golden Burro for some period of time. I am pretty sure it was after you left there.  Her Grandmother Vi was married to my Dad's brother Elmer.  Her name is Carol Loma.  Her mother was Iona Brink.  Do any of these names ring a bell?  Sure happy the tornadoes were not near you or the family.

Still have not heard from JACKIE.  Hoping to get email from her soon.  Do hope all has gone well with the move.

I hope you all enjoy your Thursday and I continue to enjoy seeing new names joining us every day.

Jaywalker--As you know, many participants reside on the east coast, and you are still sleeping when we arise.:)

Jenny--Sorry you forgot to click "post".   It sure is a small world.  I wish we'd hear from Jackie/Vanilla, too.

Yup, I know that, Joan ... It's great to learn what the day is going to be like before it gets here!  ;)

Jenny,  yes, I/we did know Carol and Jack Luoma  - and I think they owned the Burro when we lived there (maybe they bought it during that time ?).   I also remember Iona. She was a Beta Sigma Phi - as was I - but we weren't in the same chapter.  Amazing!

News reports are that the tornadoes in and around Tulsa were pretty bad.  Apparently, the storms that spawned them were part of the squall line I mentioned earlier.  Since the pattern seems to move from east to west,  I suspect we're next in line.
However, the noon news said we might have near freezing temperatures next week.
I'll continue to look out the window and make my own decision.

The new laundry equipment works beautifully!  The old dryer would "yoo-hoo" when it was done; the new one plays a melody.

June Drabek

I am dragging in late. Have been up since early today. I was still in bed when the nurse came to do a fasting blood test that my Dr. ordered, then I did my readings and therapy, then had some breakfast, then downstairs for musical Bingo, home to relax a bit, back downstairs for lunch with three nice ladies, then home to the computer, but had a call from a sweet employee here to see if she could get me connected to Jacquie Lawson Cards...I have been without for two months now....she didn't have any more luck than I did, but we are awaiting a reply.

Now I have read all the messages.

Bubble, I so appreciate the help you have given me and will do my best to follow your instructions. Oldiesman made it sound so simple with the new methods, but I am extra slow in understanding it seems. I will try again.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Callie, springtime in Oklahoma/Texas :(.

I was also a Beta Sigma Phi :).  I joined in Seattle in 1968 and transferred my membership when we moved to Sulphur.  We disbanded in 1996 when we started losing members.  I haven't thought about Beta Sigma Phi in years.

Jaywalker--:)

Callie--I hope the storms bypass you.  Aha, a singing dryer.  That's mighty high class.

June--You a smart lady.  You'll manage to get it done.

MaryTX--We can have some pretty fierce spring weather, too.

Thanks Radioman--we are still chatting most every night.  Drop by some night at 9:30  CDT and say Hi.

Gloria and MaryTX    Is there anything more eerie than the sound of that tornado siren?  I am a Boston transplant and the first time I heard the alarm, I grabbed the kids, put them in the bathtub and gathered up pillows for them to sit on.  That was 56 years ago, now I hear the sirens and step out on the front porch to check the skies.  So far, so good.  Stay safe!

Kelly

Hi June
A very good evening to you.

JaneS

The hamburger corn casserole is in the hidey hole for anyone who is hungry.  This casserole was a staple in our family when my kids were teenagers.  It was the one thing I could put on the table that everyone liked...even my husband and he didn't like most casseroles.  He was a meat-and-potatoes man!

I'm off to watch a little tv through my eyelids.  And I have to bring in the pups.  Their barking is beginning to annoy me and I wonder what it's doing to the neighbors.

Have a good evening Everyfriend!

CALLIE, I sure did not know that Carol & Jack owned the Burro that long ago. It has been within the past 8 years that we were there eating and Iona came in and we got to chat with her.  I am thinking your new w/d might be LG if they play u a tune when they are finished??  4 of my appliances play a tune leaving me to wonder at times just what is done!

Yes, JOAN, it really is a small word...and of course, Leadville is a very small place.  It us quite amazing though that my son found out that not only was Carol from Leadville, but that we are related.  He could have easily as not made the connection.  She commented that she only gets a bit easy when she is in Leadville and that prompted him to ask if she happen to know our family!  Amazing.

JUNE, I hope your blind work comes back with good results.

It is snowing like crazy here right now.... Nearly a total white out.  Feel badly for the commuters, especially my Dr. Dave.

Have a good evening.

Gloria

I went out to have a walk this afternoon but changed my mind. It was warm, low 60's but if I had a sail on my rollator the strong would have sent me flying. I heard it howling by my windows but it needn't be a strong wind to do that. Can't complain after seeing tornado damage and hail damage on the news. Hope Callie and family are OK.

KELLY  about time you came back to the SS again. Missed your posts about your home country .

JOAN  the GE fridge I bought in 1978 is still working good.  Not bad for 38 years. Works better than the GE here that is 9 years old. A few of them here have been replaced already.  Wow all those years of graphics now floating in cyber space.  That is a big loss. I have a lot if you can use them.

BUBBLE  between you and me we could get a supply of graphics to Joan. I know I sure have a lot with a fall theme. Those not needed till September.

JANE  my son surprised me bringing me a KFC dinner. I enjoyed it for a change.

CALLIE  glad those tornadoes were not close to you. You and your family stay safe. I cannot complain about the wind here today after seeing some of the damage out there.

MARTY TX  I started out with Glor31 and .now just have Gloria.

GLORIA de  That will be quite a drive for your DIL. Very windy here, too.

JENNY  latest forecast here is possible snow on Sunday. Now that the parking lot is all cleaned from the sand over the winter it would be terrible if they had to plow and sand again. I think we are all waiting to hear from Jackie.

JUNE  hello. I would love it if a nurse came here for that fasting Vampire visit.  By the time I am ready early and waiting for my ride my tummy is growling at me. The only thing I liked about the doctor I fired he didn't believe in the fasting.

ANDIE  I am a Yankee from Rhode Island so never heard a tornado siren. Don't think I would like it at all. Hurricanes are bad enough and at least we are warned in advance so can prepare. Most damage is dome along the shore and I live as far inland as one can get in this state and still be in RI.

Have a good night everyone.

Hi Gloria
What would you like to know about the Isle of Man

Kelly

Mary Ann

Gloria, starting in April or May (forget which, but I'll find out soon), we have the tornado siren tested the first Friday of the month.  This goes on for six or seven months.  The siren happens to be a block away from my condo, at the former location of the Township fire station, which is now across the avenue.

Our heavy rain is over but we might get a little yet tonight.  It rained so hard this afternoon I could hardly see the railing on my deck.

Mary Ann

Hi Mary Ann
A fine day with sunny spells here.

Warning, I've been reading & making notes for nearly 2 hours & didn't realize how this had grown.  Anyone that hates long posts... feel free to skip this one!   :-[

Gloria, I had to check your profile to make sure that is YOU.  Love the new photo, you look so happy and ready to take on the world.  This computer doesn't have any photos of me on it & the avatars got wiped out with the crash (since they were in my Gallery).

Jenny & Callie, how fun to come across kinfolk & "people that know people" we know.  It is a big world that got a lot smaller thanks to computers and this place of Friends.

Oh, Joan, Phyllis,  that is a gorgeous SPRING, thank you, thank you!  Starting to look like home again.

Bubble, glad to see your smiling face in here & the help.  I will try to get my face posted, have saved yours & Michael's help-hints.  Right now I'm trying to let my hair grow out & I look like a shaggy dog so won't be posting a new photo.  Got a feeling it will short again in the next few days.  I thought it might be easier to take care of out camping, pulled back... but forgot how much longer it takes to blow dry.

Janie, so nice to have you cooking for us again, my mouth waters as you bring out the new dishes, thanks!

Sandy is that YOUR saying about the voices?  Love it!

GloriaD, I only tried line dancing one time at a convention in OK.  Any kind of dancing is in my blood but I had to watch a while before attempting, it helped to know the steps to not get kicked by the persons on either side.

Larry, back in the old days of SeniorNet we tried to gather names from each discussion (I helped in KS, but not many visited KS, lots of us would hang out in MO).  Good idea to put some of our info in a separate spot so we can help when needed.

It has been one wild & busy week.  I was so excited when we could visit again and have not had time to stop by all day.  Silly part is I don't seem to have anything to show for it except being tired.

Got the RV back in the driveway, power on & slide out so I can get to the drawers in the bedroom.  I need to see what should be brought inside & replaced with spring items.  I am SO ready to hit the road but with painters coming to do the whole outside first week of May, lots of jobs (demerits) to get ready for them.

Have a holly bush on the back side by bedroom windows that has been cut back to a nub  many times in the 28+ years we've been here & was old when we bought, so the trunk is bigger around than my whole body (true).  It is touching the house again so will need a major trim.

Tree cutters for power company came around today to bop off some of the Cleveland pear in back.  They've been trimming all over town & working in this area for over a week.  My son trimmed the tree for me last year so it didn't need it, but I wasn't/won't argue with them, if the tree gets too lopsided I'll have it taken out.   When we planted it my husband had not had the stump rooted out where the mimosa had been so the new one had to move several feet nearer those lines.  Our fault, but we didn't dream it would grow so fast & spread as wide as it did.... supposed to be tall & skinny.

I took the RV on a test run (100 miles) yesterday to make sure the tires were okay.  Has been so irritating to have something wrong every time I want to go someplace.  They assure me all 6 tires are okay now after having to take the outside one off to put on an extender  on the new tire (shoulda done that when the new tire was put on in the driveway).  By the time I've run it back & forth to the tire place a couple times I wanted to top off the gas so got that job done this morning when the tree trimmers were on lunch break & trucks out of the way.  It takes the whole street for me to back out & turn, almost long enough to touch both sides of the curb with front & back tires... narrow street.

We didn't get any of the promised rain... just enough to make mud out of the dust on the windshield of the RV.  Had to wash windows to drive it yesterday!  Learned my sore hand hurt worse when hanging onto the steering wheel in the wind.  My drive yesterday took me out to where lots of small grass fires burned pastures, not the biggest fire that Callie sent from OK.... but sure scarred the landscape.

In Kansas early spring is such a joy to see the winter wheat so green, must be nearly a foot tall now & waving in the wind.  One large field of something yellow was in between two huge fields of winter wheat... gorgeous, but I couldn't get a shot because of cars behind & coming the opposite direction.  Yes, I do drive with a camera on my lap & shoot out the windows.   I have not uploaded those photos but if any are good enough, I'll post to show the wide open spaces of Kansas.   I love the mountains but appreciate the feeling of freedom that comes from being able to see for miles.

I grew up at the other end of MaryTX's "tornado alley"  in MO when there was not much warning when one was near.  One night we woke up, closed windows because of the heavy rain & went back to bed.   It was State Fair week and I was working in the Administration building (cushy job dating the son of the Secretary of the Fair)  had to be on the job about 6:00 am... only about 8 blocks from home.  Some times I walked & some times Mother drove me, but at the entrance nobody was allowed in... until I showed my "pass".   What a state of disaster, a huge truck hanging in a tree,  3 large ferris wheels twisted together & all those canvas awnings of a mile long carnival ground was spread everywhere.   I ran the information booth so didn't get much time to look around & didn't have a camera so only vivid memories imprinted in my mind.  I don't remember if anyone was killed but do know the awning company said they would NOT come back again as it was several years in a row that their big tents were destroyed.  Google will know.
"The golden anniversary of the Missouri State Fair is marked with tragedy when the fairgrounds are hit by a tornado at 1:20am on Aug 20. The storm centers on the midway area and a carnival employee is killed.  (compliments of Google)
Despite suffering extensive damage to all 60 permanent buildings on the fairgrounds, totaling almost $700,000, the fair is back in operation the following evening."
An additional 40 acres are purchased, bringing the Fair’s total acreage to 276.  (1946)  At one time we bragged that MO State Fair was 2nd largest (TX held the top honor).  This was my playground after WWII was over.  A friend's family kept a horse stabled there except during Fair time.  We were out there all summer, especially the week before the fair when horses were brought in early for the shows, for the races (Grand Circit Harness) ... 10 days of horse shows, including those enormous Budweiser Clydesdales.  We got to pet them & visit with the trainers, as well as the trainers & stable hands of the "best of the best" stables from all over the US.   What lucky kids we were.   Hopefully any Friend that isn't interested in my rambling will just pass on by, been one of those days with no one to talk to except in here & my mouth is on over load.

Sweet dreams to all.  Cats to tend to.  Mama Callie (cat) didn't come home last night or all day, so I turned off her heated bed in the garage.   :'(

June Drabek

Kelly, and a Hi to you ! 8)

This feels like two days rolled into one. I am exhausted. Not only did I have a blood test at home, I also had an EKG while lying on my own bed, then a chest xray, while sitting in my own chair at home. I can't believe the wonderful service they give us. In between times, I play an hours worth of Musical Bingo, and an hours worth of chair exercises, and had a good lunch downstairs.

Then I got very frustrated, because our onsite computer guru tried to get me re=connected to Jacqui Lawson cards and had the same bad luck I have had.

And more frustration in trying to post a picture here and just messed it all up and can't get rid of what was posted that I didn't want posted.

I am SO thankful for all the good stuff I experienced today, but I must say Good Night dear hearts, and get this weary body into bed. I will thank God for all of you, and all of His Goodness, and ask his forgiveness for my frustrations. Good night dear hearts. Keep well and happy. June
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Food For Thought

For You and For Me
(by Roy Irwin)

You may find this hard to believe, but just about everyone has a scar somewhere on their body. And with every scar there is a story to go with it.

I learned this lesson at a gathering where most of the people did not know one another very well and appeared to have little in common. As you might expect, there was a lot of small talk as each person more or less kept to themselves. Then the hostess introduced an 'Ice Breaker' - a question meant to jump-start the conversation by getting everyone to participate. Each person was asked to share their personal "scar story" - a story about how they got a scar.

As we went around the room everyone shared their particular story; some were funny, some very serious. But with each story we learned more about the person. It became obvious that everyone had more in common than was first thought and the walls that had once separated us began to disappear, bringing us closer together as a group.

As I was remembering that meeting I was reminded of my own scars. I have three: one on my foot caused when running barefoot in a field as a child; one on my forehead from a college prank - it becomes more noticeable each year as my hair becomes less noticeable; and one on my hand, caused in a moment of anger just a few years ago...

For every scar there is also the memory of the pain that went with it.

I was trying to imagine what it would be like if Jesus shared about His scars. About how He was mocked and beaten. About how He suffered the cruelest form of death by being nailed to a cross. About how He lived a sinless life yet would bear your sins and mine. About how He knew since the beginning of time those events would take place, yet He came, willingly, to take our place - paying a debt He didn't owe because we owed a debt we couldn't pay - removing the sin that separates us from God.

One day we will see Jesus face to face. We will see His scars and know the truth from Romans 5:8: "But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." (NIV)

For you and for me.

"Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for loving us so much that you were willing to die for us so that we could live with you for all eternity. Help us to see the world through the scars in your hands. Help us to live each day for you.

Amen."

Thought of the Day

“Learn to enjoy every minute of your life.  Be happy now.  Don’t wait for something outside of yourself to make you happy in the future.  Think how really precious is the time you have to spend,  whether it’s at work or with your family.  Every minute should be enjoyed and savored.”

Mary Ann, you mean you will have that siren tested EVERY month?  I would hate that!
Here Sirens are tested twice a year when we have the memorial day for the holocaust victims, and then for memorial day of the fallen soldiers, just before Independence Day.  That is more than enough, unless there is a sudden terrorist alert of course.  It always give me the chills when I hear it.

Good morning, Joan!  I was up about the same time you were this morning.  I woke up at 2 a.m. and just could not go back to sleep so got up at 4.  I'm sure I'll be happy to take a nap after lunch.

Hi, Bubble.  You've been up for hours so I'll just say that I hope it is a good day for you.

Warm and supposed to be rainy here.  That's ok since I don't plan to go out.  I got the grocery shopping done yesterday and a hair cut  (see.....no braids!   :2funny:) and even ate out so I'll be content to stay home today.

Hi Joan, Phyllis and Kelly and Amy.

A nice bright day here, warmer than yesterday they said.  I have chores in the kitchen today: the children are having the evening meal with me on Friday night, as usual.

That weather thing is not working :(  I hope Rammel will have a solution!

Good morning, Bubble.  I see that the weather thingy isn't working.   Sorry I don't know how to fix it.  Enjoy the time with your children.

Phyllis--Good morning.  Yes, I see--no braids. :)  We are supposed to have rain later today.  Right now it's just VERY humid.

Good late morning, Kelly.

Amy--Good morning.  Sure hope the weather cooperates so your daughter in love and her friend have no trouble going to the fabric sale.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I hope you are all having a great day and that it continues to be so.  I haven't figured out what I'll be up to today but the fact that you could write your name almost anywhere in my house on whatever piece of furniture you choose, tells me that I might have to wear a dust cloth on my hand...maybe on both hands.  And, as usual, the kitchen floor needs a good mopping.  Is that enough to keep an old lady busy?

I think I'll sit here on the PWP with my coffee and try to think of reasons NOT to do the work.  Anyone want to join me?
