WHERE THERE IS LOVE
Helen Steiner

3. Where there is love the heart is light;
Where there is love the day is bright.
Where there is love there is a song
To help when things are going wrong.

 Love changes darkness into light
And makes the heart take wingless flight.

UNDERSTANDING LIFE
When one has the perspective to understand:

that life cycles are normal and perpetual,
relentlessly carrying us to our graves;
that we accept our trials and tribulations,
without anguish, bitterness, or resentment;

that we must always seek the good in ourselves,
as well as to observe the good in others;
that we embrace what remains of life's pleasures,
regardless of misfortunes befalling us;

that it is important to be of good cheer;
with acquaintances, strangers, and casual friends;
that it is more important to be ourselves.
when we are in the company of best friends;

that kind words always provide a healing balm,
giving us courage to rise up as eagles;
that our compassion for others is saintly.
satisfying our souls and our creator;

that life's valleys afford valuable insights,
leading the way to the highest mountain tops;
that love for man should equal the love for God.
without reservation for our differences.

that the worth of laughter is beyond measure;
often times, a confirmation of friendship;
that a sense of humor is infectious.
evoking goodwill among friends and strangers;

Only then, can one completely understand
how to enjoy a rich and rewarding life,
in spite of particular circumstances
at any stage of one's unique life cycle.

Lonely Boy
(Paul Anka/Joe Dowell)

I'm just a lonely boy, lonely and blue
I'm all alone with nothin' to do
I've got everything you could think of
But all I want is someone to love

Someone, yes, someone to love, someone to kiss
Someone to hold at a moment like this
I'd like to hear somebody say
"I'll give you my love each night and day"

I'm just a lonely boy, lonely and blue
I'm all alone with nothin' to do
I've got everything you could think of
But all I want is someone to love

Somebody, somebody, somebody, please send her to me
I'll make her happy, just wait and see
I've prayed so hard to the heavens above
That I might find someone to love

I'm just a lonely boy, lonely and blue
I'm all alone with nothin' to do ....

All good, Bubble, thank you!  Is that Aviv, sure looks like him. By the expression on your face (unless you have a twin), a special connection with that baby from day one.

I am up late, waiting for the dryer to stop. I do hate new appliances, they don't operate like WE want but insist on thinking for us & doing what those men designers programmed them to do. Both new washer & dryer take twice, maybe 3 times longer than the old ones. Can't make me believe they are more "efficient"!   :tickedoff:

Got a lot done outside this morning but heat slowed me down the rest of the day. Tomorrow to be even hotter so must get out early to vac the pool. Weather person talking about records falling this week, many of the records set back in 1954, remember that summer?  I do, had a Civil Service job 20 miles from home, passed the Clerk-typist test but hired because they needed a draftsman & I had 280 hours training as a cardographic draftsman with the Corp of Engineering. That was nothing like (I tried to tell them) the drafting they needed done. Anyway, the job was measuring & creating new blue prints of the Base Supply Building... 280' long, concrete block building with concrete floor and NO air conditioning. It was an oven. The hottest day was 118 degrees. Before the summer was over they got the opening for a draftsman. I was kept busy making charts for "the man at the top" to take on his trips giving speeches before finally getting back to being a clerk typist. I had no idea those hot temperatures broke records here in KS as well as MO.

Dryer buzzed so better go fold clothes & go to bed. Already past midnight. This is the first year since being at this house (33 years) that it hasn't cooled down at night. Wake up at dawn to about 80 degrees so gotta do outside work fast!

Sweet dreams to all, God Bless. Shirley/Tisie

Good morning...

Busy morning picking up new meds, paint and two new light bulbs for the fridge. Might as well replace two and have them both done while the cover is off.
Folks are to stop in today to look at a  trug later on. Their parents were here the other day to look and now to get the ok from the DD. We have met the nicest people just over these trugs. Some came bearing gifts of maple syrup.

Bubble, I enjoy reading Helen Steiner Rice's poems. I have a few of her books. I would say that is one proud Grandma holding that cutie.

Jane, can you take time to breath today? I am glad you get to enjoy your visit as winter will soon be upon us. (Not soon enough for colder weather for me)

Shirley, I have a love /hate relation going on with my new washer. Why they think they can improve on washers that worked great for years is beyond me. Some control the depth of wather, now we have locking lids. Who in thunder is going to steal your dirty laundry???  As for children crawling in, teach your children not to touch!

Better get on with my day before it heats up too much.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

But, But, - there might be other children around. You wouldn't want them getting stuck in your washer or dryer would you.  Even the Wash-and-Wear cycle, while it might be needed, can be dangerous. And just what right do you have to tell someone else's children what to do.  Don't you realize children shouldn't be expected to learn and be responsible till they are at least 21 and out on their own.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm up and attem!  We're doing some laundry today and maybe making a trip to the store.  I don't know if we'll see the kids today or not.  Yesterday, we made a trip to the water park to watch them playing in the water.  It was a pretty neat park and the kids were having a ball!

Tomorrow, Ali, Cindy and I are taking a little trip and I forget where she said we're going but it doesn't really matter.  Just being with them will be good.

BUBBLE, i loved the new opening and I also recognized you in the picture and decided that you were holding your beloved grandson!

I'm off to help with the chores!  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good morning; blue skies are here but none of the promised rain. Because of the previous heat, which was barely significant, we're told that besides creating fires, it has also caused substantial snowmelt in the Alaska range, which is now causing low-level flooding. However, our temps have dropped ten degrees for today and the coming week.

Jane, how nice you have this fun trip and family, especially with the kids! I'm glad to hear you're enjoying your time with them.

Amy, I had a small taste of your busyness this past week as I constantly found one thing or another always needed yet another trip. And for someone whose phone was an afterthought, I soon realized how vital having one had become.

Good morning

Starting out at 50° at the moment and not a cloud in the sky.

Yesterday was interesting with folks stopping in to look at the trugs. Meet some very nice people and one two year old Black Lab. Picked a bean for her and she was so gentle in taking it. While out I did notice the second fox kit playing in the open  across the road.

Working around home today, I had wanted to take Kyle to a car show but he has a Dr appoinment, over the phone right in the middle of the day.

Patricia, that cart has a mulitude of uses, you have a lot of spices! Love your clear blue sky and hope each day brings you closer to having that instead of smoke filled ones.

Bubble I am with you,the bears are very entertaining. I can sit and watch any animal playing about for hours.

Better get on with the day before it becomes unbearable . :)

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Count me in on the critter watching! I've done my "outside work" for the day so will have breakfast now.  Never enough sleep at night mostly because Tiger thinks I should get up when she is ready for her milk in the morning.

The heat is getting to all the growing plants & trees. First time in my life I've seen a full grown forsythia bush look wilted, even some of the trees are drooping. The sprinkler system is connected to the well but what I hand water comes from the expensive city water. Tree roots grew into the control box for sprinklers in the back so will have to have that tree cut down & roots killed before getting that fixed. Always something. As my father used to say, "the more bells & whistles on anything the more can go wrong"... and that holds true for appliances or anything else!  In the meantime, what should be green in the back is dying of thirst!

On that happy note I'm going to fix my breakfast & may even go back to sleep. Tiger is laying in the pool area guarding it from those crazy birds that think they find a worm in the grass carpet around the pool.  ;D  Have a great day where ever you are!

I just remembered where it is that we're going this weekend...Eureka Springs!  Supposed to be beautiful there!

I hope you all have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

I am having such a hard time getting in here to post. All of my ways I normally come in seem to not work for me anymore.  🤷 It could be operator error🤷

We have had a couple of days to just take it easy and collect our thoughts.  I still can not believe my dad is gone, but I am at peace knowing he would not want to be in any care home😩😩

I have attempted to contact and still living friends and relatives to let them know of dad's passing, but was only able to reach one living relative his age.  She was very confused and it wasn't a pleasant conversation 😩😩

Everyone wants to know when the burial service will be, and they do not realize we have to get his cremains and death certificates before we can get him back to Colorado for his service😩

I am going to post this and make sure I am in the right spot.

More later 🦋

Jenny, I am so glad you checked in tonight, been concerned with yours & Bob's health and believe the stress of all we go through when someone special dies, can push us over the edge into worse/more serious health complications.

Like Rick says, slow down, he is good at these computer problems & I'm sure can help you find you way back to normal. When my brother died about 2 years ago (also in his 90s) it was the start of Covid but the cousins his age couldn't come even though there was a funeral with full military honors. A month later nobody had "open" funerals and now most of us recognize that most services (that I'm aware of) are for immediate family only or delayed until another date.

We had an unexpected problem because the doctor that was to sign Cas' death certificate had moved his office and the funeral director didn't realize so a week delay until they discovered the papers went to the wrong address and funeral director "hand carried" the papers to that office and the process started. It seemed to take forever and all right here in the same city. All you can do is check now & then to see what stage the funeral home is in, they work at their own pace. Hopefully all the decisions been made so you don't need to make last minute choices.

Cas never wanted to talk about what he wanted, except cremation, so it was all up to me & the kids approved. He wanted his ashes scattered but I told the kids "everyone deserves a marker to show they had a life". So his cremains are in a mausoleum, I bought the joining niche for mine & even the matching urn so my kids don't have to worry about that.

Do take care of yours & Bob's needs, that's what your father would want for you. Try to relax, it does take time as most of us can tell you. When your life settles down, if you haven't already, time to make yours & Bob's plans.

By the way, Sandy, I checked out the link you posted and much nicer urns than what I found in my search. Even when we know someone doesn't have long, we/I put off making those plans so I was in shock during my search.

Time for bed & still need to shower & wash my hair. Already told Google to "set the alarm for 5:00am".... not ever enough time for sleep.  God Bless & Watch Over All

Good morning..

Another beautiful day in the making, I am sure the temp will soar but for now it is livable.  Yesterday was busy, but amongst it all I met some nice folks. They stopped in to inquire about the trugs....not for them but a neice was looking. The neice had "adopted" 300 in a nursing home that had no one...she started out giving eacg on a small Christmas gift plus a birthday card each year. This got expensive for her,the company she worked for heard what she was doing and gave her a large sum of money to use for the seniors. What a blessing she must be. As I have said before we meet the nicest people.

While hanging out laundry yesterday I noticed the swollows have left the nest, wonder if Mom and Pop will have a second clutch?

Jenny, one day at a time  and in that day take time for you.

Lloyd, keep the good memories to enjoy.

Particia, how are the fires, anywhere near being put out?

Better get on with my day

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning; today seems to be a second steady day of intermittent rain. We've had lows in the early fifties and highs in the mid to late sixties, so we're having August weather early. All the riverbanks are running full with some low-lying flooding, and for those using the rivers as a highway, notes of increasing trees, etc., in the channels.

The fires are down in central, steady in the interior, and increasing in the southeast portions of the state. Not that much news otherwise, refugees are still not able to return home, and the flooding in certain areas is becoming a concern. I may have Claire as a roommate for quite some time.  I'm now rooting for winter, and that is sad.

"I won't tell a soul_consider it forgotten.

When Charles Bay, the former US ambassador to Norway, was asked, "Remember me?" but couldn't, he would answer, "Sure, I remember you. Say, how'd you ever get out of the trouble you were in?"

"In some little restaurant, somewhere in the city, my very best friend, what's-her-name, is throwing down breadsticks waiting for me to join her for lunch."   Columnist Erma Bombeck on losing reminder notes.

Patricia, happy to read that you are getting some rain. Claire is lucky to have you as a friend and a safe place to be. Can't imagine what it would be like to be displaced from your home.

Stay cool!

They say only one structure was destroyed but that isn't telling you that much.

I have a cautionary tale on both the Internet and your recall. I have told folks for years that I started on the net in 2000. I was off by a few years as by going back through old internet files, 2000 was when I joined SeniorNet. I was first on the internet on April 22nd, 1995, or at least that was my first post online when I joined ThirdAge, which suffered the same ignominious end as our SeniorNet.

So, you can be tracked right down the rabbit hole.

Hello Everyfriend!  We're back home, safe and sound and we had a great weekend.  I'm worn out and ready for a good night's sleep!  Tomorrow is another day.  It was neat spending time with my daughter and granddaughter and it really wouldn't have mattered to me what we did with the time!  I just loved being with them!

Checking in for the night. Lloyd, I'm as bad as you about naps & no deep sleep at night. My Fitbit wouldn't even give me a sleep score for last night because I was just "half asleep" most of the night. Made up for it today after early church & breakfast with son & his wife, came home to wait for Sam's to open & got way more than planned & then to Walmart. Have to go back to the Kroger store tomorrow for things the stores didn't have today.

Jane, glad you are enjoying time with the kids. Sorry about this heat. My long time friend that lives here spent a week with her 3 sisters in Eureka Springs one year (think that was where y'all were going). Every year the 4 "girls" would go a different place for a week without husbands. She is the oldest & took care of them a lot when they were little & growing up on a far. She thought it was a fun little town & the place they rented worked for them to bring snacks for evening visiting.

Amy, I'm seeing few birds right now, almost like late August when they are playing and building up their strength for the migration south. They were here & building nests early but such crazy weather, wouldn't surprise me if they don't go south earlier than usual.

Patricia, I can't put a date for when I started using a computer but will check with my daughter. She was sent to Harvard Business School for the company she worked for, 3 months, I think it was. So my oldest son brought over a spare computer he had & set it up so we could e-mail. Do you remember Juno?  Long time ago.

Hope Gloria gets the computer fixed pretty soon... missing her 2¢ worth. Interesting when all drop by to talk about what's going on in their world.

Kids have all checked in. I didn't water today so must do early in the morning, usually when the wind is the lightest. I have to do it before I eat or this ole babe wants to sleep when the tummy is full. Sure didn't know that was the "joke" about the 2nd childhood..... you fed a baby & it went right back to sleep & works same way for 87!  :-\

Sweet dreams & God Bless.

Weather man says we are to get a storm , we do need the rain.  Will have the med ready for Babe should we get a dandy thunder storm.

I bought my first computer in 2000, love the fact one can find so much information on it. How to repair just about anything, recipes, quilt patterns but best of all the friends I have met all over the world.

Jane, hope you have photos to share of your trip. Glad you are home safe and sound.

I was into computers probably from about 1971, --- but not PC's. This was a Main Frame type computer that took care of routing telephone calls. Later a couple of DEC model Computers for record keeping and Billing. Didn't get a PC till I retired. Then I almost took it back because I couldn't get the damned thing to work. My wife convinced me to take a quickie course at the local Community College. It was clear sailing from there forward. The start of Senior Net peaked my interest in getting started.

We're having some rain today. We need it but not as much as other areas. Tis been a crazy summer weather wise. I have my own crazy (maybe not so) theory as to why.

I've been enjoying some newcomers to my daily wildlife feeding.  Looks like a family of Cardinals is around. Adult male and female, and two what looks like half grown males. They've been coming for the handout. The adult male will even come onto my (small) porch for a peanut.  It's so relaxing, mentally and physically, to sit in the rocker on the porch and toss peanuts and raisins for them. Even an occasional chipmunk comes around. Always several Mocking Birds, Doves, blue jays, and lots of sparrow type.

This may be a record for length of post for me.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  RAMMEL, I was thinking the same thing about the length of your post!  You are usually very succinct and few-worded!  It's nice to see you spread your words.  However, I'm used to the kind of short but wise comments you make.  My Dad was the same way.  What he said, you understood immediately!

I'm looking for a place to get a haircut today or tomorrow.  It's time!

I hope you all have a good day!  Better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Rick, remember do not fold, spindle or mutilate? When I worked at the University's main campus in the seventies, I was a section clerk in the AV department, and in the basement was this huge computer that took up the entire floor.

I was one of those who assisted others in utilitizling the computer as well as renting or checking out AV equipment, showing class films in the auditorium (Shakespearian class films were some of the bloodiest I'd ever seen!). Back then, you had to have two 16mm projectors running, so it was seamless as one projector's film ended and the other's portion began.

The final portion of my job was taking student and faculty yearly photos. That was a process in itself as full-face was needed, and many wanted to do side views, heads tilted this way and that. Getting these types to co-operate was a hassle, and some you had to send on their way. Then, later, they would return all stony-faced and co-operate once life had been explained to them.

I gave that up to remarry and move to Kentucky and then Tennessee. I sometimes wince when I think of the pension I would have now if I had stayed in that position!

Rick, I envy you the birds, mine are all "off & running".  Not sure if they are still feeding babies but not coming for the food I put out. Haven't offered them any grapes lately & they aren't interested in any other fruit. Not a lot of birds hanging around, think they may be spending more time along the river.

My back yard (where the sprinklers don't work) looks as brown/dry as if just before the fall rains start in late Sept or Oct. The roots will die if we don't get rain soon. The company that did some sprinkler work for my husband isn't playing fair & pulled fast ones the last 2 times I had them do work & one time doubled the price of a part 'cause they didn't dream I'd know what it should be. When I pulled out the receipt from the year before (same part but for a different location), they just said, "okay" & dropped the price back down. I don't like those kind of games....and so it goes........

Here it is, dark, bedtime and I'm running sprinklers in the front for the 2nd time today. Not sure what time I'll get to water tomorrow, it's trash day & I don't want the guys to deal with getting wet. We can't get even a cool morning to work outside this year and I think I mentioned someplace that "this is the first year in this house that nights have not cooled down enough to open the sliding door in my bedroom for fresh air".  I really am getting cabin fever. Sweet dreams to all trind God Bless. Wishing each & everyone a better tomorrow.

Funny one, Patricia.

Good morning.

Another lovely day in the making. Yesterday we did get a nice rain and thankfully no thunderstorm. There are times I am happy that the weather person is wrong. Neighbour phoned over to say he had seen the fox, she had gone into the culvert in he driveway. Said she is a bright beautiful red...just hope the other baby is with her.

Bubble, I have often sadi put the powers that be in a ring and let them duke it out and leave the innocent young men alone. Wishful thinking.

Patricia, each time Kyle would go to the Dr he had in the past and each time the receptionist would ask that same question what year yearand yes Kyle did say every year.

Appointments to take care of today then home to purge a closet or two.

Jane, did you find a place to get your hair cut?

Lloyd, how is your garden coming?

Hope Gloria soon gets back and with a good computer that causes her no more grief.

Time to meet the day..

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm up and attem and we're going to check out the WM Supercenter and see if they have a hair "cuttery".  It's not listed on their website and I'm thinking of calling them to ask but Cindy says she needs some stuff anyway so maybe i'll just take a chance.  She says she knows a couple places if they don't have one!

Today is going to be another HOT one!  I still wear a sweater in the house and take it off to go out on the porch and get warmed up.

This Saturday, Cindy is driving me to OK City for a visit with Callie!  Unfortunately, Shirley is unable to join us but I'm looking forward to seeing Callie.  Cindy has a friend in OK City that she'll visit while Callie and I visit!  I'm excited!

I better go get my shower and get dressed and get ready for whenever Cindy decided to take a break today!  I hope you all have a good day...better than yesterday but not ans good as tomorrow!  And I hope GLORIA gets back soon!

Good Morning, LLOYD and anyone else who shows up today!

Cindy and I are going phone shopping today.  She's getting a new phone and I'm transferring to her old one which is about 5 years newer than the one I have!  I'm not sure this will be a good idea but at least she'll be around to help me over the pitfalls!

Friday, Ali and I are going to make and can salsa.  It's something she already makes that her family likes and if she has it canned, she can just open a jar when they want it!  This will be a good start for using the canner!

Cindy just told me we have an appointment at the phone store at 2 this afternoon!  Hmmmm!  Should I be pleased?  Oh, well, at least the "teacher" is in the next room!

LLOYD, I hope you hear from the VA soon and I hope they find something simple to fix you up!

I'm off to take the doggies out in the yard!  Then maybe sort out some leftovers for my lunch.  That's what we do around here.  Just like at home!  Maybe she caught it from me!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Glory be......I am still logged in and every thing seems to be going correctly for me🥰🥰🥰

We had a delightful time at a out door venue seeing James Taylor last night. There were a couple of rain showers but my hubby thought ahead and brought one of the large clear drop clothes and we put it over my scooter and us and it worked great‼️‼️. James put n a wonderful show and it was nice to be out in the fresh air enjoying doing some thing more normal for a change‼️‼️

I received a call from my brother this morning and my dads  cremains and death certificates are ready for him to pick up.  He will go down next Tuesday to pick them up.  We are anxious to get them here so we can plan his memorial service.

Lots of talk about how warm it has been everywhere ......here included🥵
I hope you all are able to deal with the extreme heat🙏🙏

I had PT for the first time in a month, due to othe4 procedures and going to AZ.  PT sad my replaced shoulder felt very good.....full range of motion BUT still limited to the use of the arm due to the nerve damage😩😩  She felt pleased with the two epidural shot locations.  She worked my hip ove good and by the time I left I was in much pain and fatigue d😩🥵🥵 I even came home and took a Aleve and wondered if I was going to be able to go to the concert?  I was.....and being out and about helped me keep my mind off f it and this morning I got up feeling so much bette4‼️‼️ Always so pleased with ANY improvement  and hopes of getting myself back to normal 🥰🥰

I wish you all a good  rest of your day.

Good morning..

Yesterday started with a roll of thunder and ended with the same.We didn't get the menacing storm with winds up to 100km and possibility of a tornado.
We left home early for my appointment, leaving the dogs home with the neighbours looking after them. Met up with friends ,dropping off fabric for both of them. Picking up a few things at WM and heading back home.

Today will go see a friend that we did work for a few years ago. That job was our last big one and then health issues took over and we hung up our carpenter aprons.

Better get ready andcheck out if there is any damage to the gardens.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

I had an e-mail from Gloria's daughter last night, not good news so think we all need to ask God to watch over her.

"Mom, Gloria, has had issues lately, last week she went to Dr ( finally) after 14 months of not going to a doctor. Anyway from the dr's office they sent her directly to the hospital. As of now they have only pinpointed one thing wrong, her vitamin D is almost at a toxic level."

Regina went on to say that Gloria probably won't go back to her apartment and not be on a computer to visit with us again.  In my reply to Regina I've asked her to send an update now and then, if there is any change in her condition. If anyone wants to send a note to Gloria I will be happy to gather & pass on to Regina and hope they will find a way to connect (one being near the East coast & other near the West coast). We never know what tomorrow will bring.

I need to add water to the pool again today, these hot, dry & windy days are pulling the water out and since I've been keeping the pump running 24/7 to circulate the water, that also lifts the water into the air. Compared with the summer of 1954 when it was 118° and I was working in a concrete block building with a concrete floor, NO AC, this is a piece of cake!  "Oh what a year it was, it really was"..........song in there!

Wishing all a good day, think of snow falling and putting on a coat & boots. Gloria never failed to agree with me about hating hot weather.  Outside is calling, it's a cool 70 degrees right now but won't stay that temp long.

Thank you Amy & Bubble for the thoughts. Amy, since she is in a hospital right now I expect they will move her many times.

Having been to my primary doctor recently & sent on to visit with the new cardiologist (old one retired last year), I am SO disappointed with the care given it has taken me overnight to collect my thoughts.  I did not get the Echo last year as scheduled because my appointment was changed shortly before due & new date was not withing boundries Medicare (& BlueCross/BlueShield) would pay, same group of doctors so I figured they would schedule the Echo quickly. Not how it works. Ran an EKG first, another PA came in to check BP & oxygen, finally the doctor. He had a few questions, didn't want any questions from me. "You don't want to do anything with the valve right now?"... "No, I'd like to see if my short windedness is the anemia I've fought all my life, to the point I would pass out when I was pregnant".  NO comment from the doctor. "We will schedule the sonogram/Echo in 3 months, expect a call in Sept or an appointment in Oct."  "But what about the iron or B-12 shots (iron carries oxygen in the blood)... I haven't taken any vitamins since the heart surgery nearly 10 years ago, my concern was since I can't tolerate blood thinners will the iron thicken my blood too much?"  "Iron is good for the heart"....  I came away not knowing any more than when I went in & my insurance & Medicare will get an enormous bill. The entire time the doctor was in the room he was on his computer, my opinion was he was checking to see what else Medicare would allow in my case. He didn't bother to listen to my valve & appeared his only interest was NOT what I needed but what he could charge Medicare & insurance for.

The visit to my primary doc was because one foot was/is swelling but not both & the same question about anemia, same no answer. I had typed a bio up of my health history and a note about my son (that he saw that same morning). I won't know IF he reads it but he sure wasn't going to listen to me. When Cas first started with the old cardiologist he had his own private practice. As years went by he joined with this group because HE was not a surgeon. Cas' original surgeon was kind & caring, even gave Cas his private phone number "to call anytime". He is now head of the group and I doubt has no clue how the doctors treat their patients. Am I being too..too?

I'm done with outside for the day so now to eat my breakfast & a nap, good idea, Shirley.

Once again......nothing but sad news these days.  I have been thinking a lot about Gloria and hoped it was just computer issues and NOT health reasons she was not posting.  🙏🙏 for Our Gloria🙏🙏. Thank you, Shirley for this update😩

SHIRLEY, I feel your frustration with the care issues from your doctors.  You are in my thoughts and prayers as you continue to get theses docs to understand where you are coming from with your own thoughts on your heart issues🙏

AMY, I do hope you found the garden doing just fine after the storms.  We FINALLY got a nice rain here yesterday afternoon......so very thankful.  We are in Stage one drought conditions here in our county.

LLOYD, your message was sad this morning 😩😢. Ihope your visit to the VA went well and your day will be much better than many seem to be these days.  I'm with you....I truly love all our friends in our group and I just want everyone to have peace in these troubled times🙏🙏

I wish you ALL a good day.....try to stay as COOL as possible......these high temperatures are getting to us ALL.

Good morning, nothing new here, still some fires burning, altho this past week of steady drizzle has helped stop the spread from continuing. Most of the closest rivers run bankfull with some sweepers and low-lying flooding.

We still have our refugees, and they're hopeful that they can return soon and start any repairs. The flooding is just another hindrance. I hope this heat wave the world is having cools down for the season. I believe this is only a sign of what we dismissed and now face.

Lloyd, I hope you feel better soon; these past few months have been hard.

Amy, glad to hear you had another good day out. Did you see the fox kits?

Bubble and Shirley, thanks for letting us know about Gloria; Bubble, I'll send you a note.

Jenny, we've had so many fires this year. We seem to seesaw thru rainy and dry summers.

Shirley, you've had a time with these doctors. I'm so glad that that type of insurance setup medical system is illegal here. We have had enough bad times with the high prices. Doctors don't listen here, either. The nurses do all the heavy verbal lifting, and the doctors breeze through on their way to the next patient.

Good Afternoon.  Temperature was actually in the upper 80's for most of the morning and noon weather guru said showers are moving toward this area.

I"m so sorry to learn about Gloria and hope the situation can be helped.

Jenny, I'm glad you will soon be able to honor your Dad and have him close to you.  Will the lady he lived with stay in AZ?

Shirley, every doctor I see, plus their assistant or nurse or whoever, is typing on a computer while we're talking. That's the current way for them to have the "particulars" about what we talk about and review it at our next visit. They can also check to see if our insurance covers certain procedures and/or meds and, possibly, give us a choice about paying whatever isn't covered.
I remember declining an invasive procedure and the doctor saying "I'm okay with your decision but I'm supposed to mention it to you."  I guess they have rules/regulations, too.

I think Medicare limits too many things.  For instance, it will pay for a "Wellness Check" (which I think is totally useless) once a year but not a "Complete Physical".  I've been billed an extra charge because I mentioned something else and doctor discussed it with me.  Fortunately, my health insurance has begun paying for a combination so that's what I've scheduled for this year.
I was told by another doctor's office I saw earlier this summer that my visit wasn't covered because " Medicare requires you to see your regular doctor every six months" - apparently whether you need to or not (which I hadn't).  :idiot2:
I just say when I check out of all doctor's offices "Collect what you can and bill me for the rest".

My right foot became so swollen about a month ago that it hurt to put on my brace and shoe.  I thought it might be connected to my arch bone/tendon problem so made an appointment with my podiatrist.  He x-rayed it and said it was Gout.  (I thought that was an old person's problem  ;D  ;D ).  He said to drink lots of water and put heat on the foot; did so and, while it's still a bit puffy, it's lots better.  Google search said it would go away - eventually.

Off to find something for lunch and then probably read the rest of the afternoon.  Had several e-books on Hold and they're all coming in at the same time.

Enjoy your day, Everyfriend.

Oh, Callie, I totally forgot about gout!  Cas fought it for a number of years & was convinced eating cherries or drinking cherry juice did help.... if I recall, beef was the worst offender.  He refused to believe that drinking the Welch's 100% grape juice was a trigger because it wasn't "on the list of offenders"... but every time he drank it his foot gave him fits. He had pills he could take, some that would knock the swelling & pain almost immediately and some that was slower acting but not as many warnings of other damage.

I have been eating more "red meat" lately, that helps the anemia so will cut back because I took my first iron & bone meal this morning in almost 10 years.  I'm expecting miracles.  ;)

The problem I have with running some of the tests is ... back in the old days instead of an X-ray the doctor could listen to your lungs to tell if they had fluid in them.  :-\   But I won't go on, I'm paying enough every month to cover anything they need to do but don't like money wasted just to fill pockets, it's OUR tax money that pays the Medicare part & personal checking account auto-dipped into every month to cover that other 20%. Haha, I have other gripes if you wanna listen.  :crazy2:

Patricia, you are so right that the nurses do the background work and I've been lucky with the ones that take care of me, the doctors actually listen to them!  I had too many different problems when I went in this time (to both doctors), but I didn't think my asking to rule out anemia for being short winded was unreasonable before the surgical procedure they are pushing, when I actually had this problem at 21. I will do what I want and hope it's not a mistake. Too bad you can't ship that water on down to the "lower 48"

Now I have to tell you all that I've had a busy day!  First, I'm the proud possesor of a "newer" IPhone and we had a problem getting the email to work both on the phone and on my computer.  It was asking us for an updated password and it would not accept the old password.  We ended up having to call the email provider and wait....and wait.....and wait for someone to deal with our problem.  It's finally fixed!  But just as we got on line again, Ali and the kids showed up.  She had a Dr. appt this morning so the kids stayed here.

Ali is definitely pregnant again and they already know it will be a boy!  We're all excited about that!  Then she went home and got ready to take EMMA for a dr. appt this afternoon and I babysat Mikey while they did that.

You see, it was a busy, but a good, day!  And while Ali was at the Dr. EMMA and I drew pictures!  She's getting better and better at that!  We had fun!

SHIRLEY, I sure hope you have some relief from "what ails you".  It's no fun to leave the dr. and feel like nothing is changed.  Maybe he has to talk it over with associates!

AMY, I'm in the pink with jar lids!  ALI uses jars to make bouquets of flowers from her gardening efforts to sell at the Farmers Market but she doesn't use the lids.  When I came home from her house, I was carrying 82 lids and rings!  I'm in business!

I better get back on my horse (or should I put an egg in my boot) or should I just plain "get a wiggle on"?  Things to do before supper!

Lloyd, fair warning, if Medicare or VA doesn't approve your other insurance probably will NOT pay either & you could get a hefty bill for having that done. My doctor says that we all get lumps, bumps & growths on us when we get older. I am amazed they will try again with the hearing aids, my brother in law went to the same VA as you (Marines) but he didn't even get his hearing aids from them. The last year his hearing was so bad they told my sister to "just tap him when she wanted to say something so he would face her to lip read". I still don't wear them but notice I don't understand, especially if the radio is on for news, if they play noisy background music or sounds when giving the news or even commercials & movies. Since the news is never good & commercials a royal pain in the neck, I don't miss much! Like you, I watch the old Westerns but mostly for scenery and half the time don't listen to the dialogue, good way to take a nap during the day!

Thinking about Gloria, waking up in a hospital and wondering about how her world got turned upside down so fast. I hope she is comfortable and not unhappy at being there. Some hate the thought of a hospital but if I couldn't take care of my own needs that is where I'd rather be.

And that, dear hearts, is the start of my day, up before 5:00am and nothing to show for the past hour but fed the cat a bowl of milk. She kept me awake most of the night, rubbing her one eye, it looks okay this morning. She's been wanting outside the last few days & I thought she had forgotten about being out. Everyone is spraying the weeds & we have something that bites, have not seen any fleas & the bites don't look like our "normal" Missouri chiggers, but they sure do itch. I'd rather Tiger didn't bring those critters inside the house but she was born free. Guess we have cloud cover, no sign of the sun yet.

Let's all take a day off from worrying, okay?  It's been nice to see people smile again since most around here don't wear masks.

Good morning..

Another fine day here...love starting out in the 50's but know it won't last.

Friday already, seems time flies anymore. Need to pick beans and zuchinnies this morning once the dew is off. If summer squash is big enough they too will come into the house. Fried squash, onions celery, tomatoes, garlic may be in order for supper tonight.

Jane, what a bonus!!! Ali does't have to throw them out and you sure can use them when you get preserving. I would call that a win win situation! Don't forget "a hitch in my get along." :)

Shirley, my opinion of the Dr writing everything down is the rules they have to follow and the gov't check ups they have to go through. I miss my country Dr......if you were ailing  and needed to see him he would have you come to him home when the office was closed.

Lloyd, hope you find a good Dr. They are like hens teeth to find now.

Callie, gout is so painful!! You don't want it to go away eventually, you need it to go away right now!

Patricia,no fox kits but will keep looking for them.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Sometime today, Cindy will take a break and we'll hit a "hair cuttery".  My hair is covering my ears and it's not supposed to be doing that.

I have to go get my shower and get dressed so I'm ready when she says "go".  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

No pictures. We were too busy talking to think about it and I'm not sure either of us knows how to take a selfie!
Edit:  Oops!  Forgot to mention that Jane brought me a beautful arrangement of her granddaughter's flower- bouquets- in- a- jar. Thank you,Jane.

Hello all you good friends in the Soda Shoppe.  Cindy and I have made it home and we were half way here when I told Cindy that I forgot to have her take a picture of Callie and me to post!  Rats! Bats! and Cats! on my memory!

We did have a lovely visit and I think one or the other of our mouths was moving all the time!  We talked non-stop!  And I, for one, was sorry when the visit was over!  My only regret was that you were not ALL with us!

Please enjoy the rest of your day!

I'm going "Mikey sitting" this afternoon!  That's all I do.  They have him on a monitor that they can hear anytime he wakes u and I get to sit while he sleeps and they run around!  At least I'm good for something.

A lazy rainy day here...have been busy trying to get a quilt together.

Yesterday while out we stopped and ordered a half bushlel of cucumbers just right for Kyle's dill pickles. That time has come again and soon the beets will  be dealt with.

Jane, I can just image the fun you and Callie had chatting. I would like to think we were all there in spirit.

Lloyd, prayers for Nancy. Lets hope they find the right med to help her.

Take care and stay safe..

Good morning from a partly cloudy, Interior. On the third day of no smoke, fire, or flood warnings, no campfires or fireworks are allowed as fires are either burning or demobilizing. We could still have smoke if the winds change again.

There is still minor flooding in some places; mild temperatures in the snowfields of the Alaska Range have sent snowmelt down the rivers. We have some 10-12 inches of water running over the highway heading south, and that, coupled with August's normal cooldown and rainy season, maybe a concern or may not. It's all up in the air at this point.

Lloyd, I am so sorry to hear about Nancy and hope they can assist her.

I think Shirley is in church or at lunch her family has afterward, and yes, I would like to hear more about Gloria and how she's doing.

Jane, it sounds as if your vacation has been outstanding for you; amid family, "Mikey sitting" may be the regrouping pause you need.

Amy, you're heading into what I imagine is your busy season with canning, closing out the garden, and winter prep. I haven't heard how it's been here as Claire, and I haven't been to the various farmer's markets, and some of those farmers are fire refugees. I know the usual fall hunts are off this year, which will be a problem for many this year.

Patricia, good to hear of the absence of smoke there!! I sure hope the fires are soon out for good .

I think this year will be trying for a lot of people, prices are soaring
on everything here. I do can a lot of vegetables and freeze some also.Jane, does a lof of canning also! She is the one that got me into doing more than I once did and I am the one that got her into canning potatoes:))

Yes and I have to do potatoes when I go home.  They've become a staple in my house.  Frankie asks for them often and even takes a jar home every once in a while!

LLOYD, NANCY is definitely in my prayers!  Let us know when she improves!  I hope it's soon!

And I do hope we hear something about GLORIA soon!

JIM, my SIL here in OK has a recipe for an egg dish that is delicious!  And today, he shared!  We made it together and he gave me time to take notes so I can make it when I go home.  After I make it at home and I know it's up to his standard, I'll share it with all of you!  It's pretty easy and you can make as many as you want and freeze them for later!  They have frozen hash brown potatoes, sausage or bacon, cheese and eggs in them and they sure do go down easy!

Now I have to go check on them to see if they're ready to pack up and put in the fridge!.  I wish you all a better day!

Jane, I now how my friend doing the potatoes . Her hubby is now a diabetic and he loves his potatoes. Since I was told that most of the starch comes out when one cans the potato so making it  not as bad for him to eat. You have got us on the parmesan cheese ones and so far they are our favorites along with the maple bacon spice..

Well, I sure am late getting in tonight.  First of all, Lloyd, prayers for Nancy & please keep us updated.  As I used to tell my kids growing up... "I don't want to waste my worrying".

To be honest, my days & nights are mixed up, I sleep & eat any time. More than anything I think the extreme heat is my worst enemy, just no relief in sight. The nights don't cool down and that is unusual for us (80 degrees is NOT cool in my world).

I checked mail before stopping here, no word from Gloria's daughter. I'd like to rush past summer and have an early fall. Everything so brown that doesn't get daily watering it already looks like late August. I think I've mentioned that before?  :idiot2:

Sweet dreams to all and God Bless and watch over each. Love you all.  :smitten:

Good morning...

Last evening the storm made it voice heard. Power flickered but stayed on, thankfully. We can use the rain but no need for the loud thundering bangs!

I am taking a friend to the city for her appointment , leaving Kyle to look after the pups.

Lloyd any word on Nancy?

Shirley , we have had our C/A air on a lot this summer, can't imagine being without it.

Jane, looking forward to Jim's recipe. Sounds like an all in one meal........maybe a side of potatoes done in the air fryer??

Better get ready and make sure I have everythin g ready to go.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Still no word from Gloria's daughter, I checked mail on my way to here. Hope we get good news from Lloyd today.

It is ONLY 76 degrees right now, cloud cover with radar showing a patch of rain to the west. Doubt it will stay wet until it reaches Wichita but we can hope! I'd better get out and water as soon as I turn on the front sprinklers.  Need to vac & brush down the pool this morning.

Amy, how far is "town" to you?  In this part of the world everything is still measured in mile sections because the cities & towns kept spreading out into farm land and each town around a city wanted to "stake it's claim to their school district".

This isn't getting me out before the heat turns up!  People are wearing masks again and it was so nice to see people smiling again!  One of these days.............

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm sure glad to see SHIRLEY's post!  I was starting to get a bit worried about you, my friend!

LLOYD, so good to hear NANCY is a bit better!  I pray that she keeps improving!

AMY, the egg thingys already have frozen hash browns in them.  If you having them for a main meal, maybe add a veggie or fruit salad to finish off!

And now, I've finished my breakfast and my coffee and I've checked in with my friends.  It's probably time to take the doggies out in the yard for a bit or get at my knitting or do something productive!  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Post by: Shirley on July 25, 2022, 10:12:25 AM
Lloyd, glad to see Nancy is improving, it will probably take some time to get her strength back, whatever it is.

Since Gloria's daughter is so busy, Bubble said she would copy anything anyone wanted to say to Gloria and send it all to me to put in an e-mail back to the daughter.  We don't know what is going on and I'm sure she is busy getting information from her brothers that live near Gloria plus I expect she is in contact with her doctors.  I haven't heard a word since that one message and did send her one yesterday but no reply. I think all we can do is wait.

Not a sprinkle here but the temps dropped a couple degrees. Radar showing that little patch of rain to the west is fizzling out. Got my outside work done.... hardly DONE but as much as I can do today!  Time to eat my breakfast & do some house work.

Heard on the radio that "gas has gone down a little".... NOT as fast as it went up, tho!

Jane, I am anxious to get that breakfast recipe, too!  I've been baking a potato in the microwave (big ones) & cut in half to slice into a sauce pan that I used to fry my egg...more  butter & brown (save the other half for another meal)... and have a couple pieces of toast. Potatoes are my "comfort food".

Been quite a while since I've had the sliding door open & forgot what a busy airport we have. Planes are changing directions taking off & landing, as the wind changes.

I'd better get up & move or will fall asleep. Happy Days are Hear Again?  Let's hope so!
MOVE, SHIRLEY! :o

Good morning...

Jane, it was a busy day here yesterday. Took my friend to get her eyes checked and then headed into the city to shop. Lots of laughter and fun shopping.

Today is to pickle mustard beans  and work around home.

Shirley ,it is 66 miles to the city..not a bad trip. Lots to see and one has to watch for deer/moose.

Lloyd, meniere's is not nice. Something I have had in the past and prefer to not have again! Prayers headed your way for both of you.

Patricia, have all the fires been contained now?

Better get a move on.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's going to be another hot one here today...0ver 105 degrees!   I sit inside with the A/C on wearing a sweater.  Then I take my sweater off and go outside and sit on the glider on the back porch to get warm.  The doggies always go out with me.

LLOYD, I'm sorry NANCY is having such a hard time.  She is constantly in my prayers...and you are also in my prayers.

AMY, sounds like you had a good day in the city with your friend yesterday.  I think we're going to have the kids later this morning.

I'm also hoping for one last trip to the Farmers' Market this Saturday.  We're leaving for home the next Saturday.  It's been such a great trip and I've loved making friends with the kids and now I have a place to picture Cindy.  I'd never visited her in this house or this town before.  She'd always lived in the Dallas, Texas area when I visited.  Now she's about a 15 minute drive from Ali and her husband and kids!

I guess I better get my day going.  I'm busy knitting when Cindy is doing her job.  She works from home and she doesn't waste any of her employer's time!  I'm very proud of her!  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Lloyd, I hope Nancy is doing better today.  The hospital cannot force Nancy to go to a nursing home.  Just tell them NO...you and your granddaughter can take care of her at home.  She can use a walker to help avoid falls.

I've had Meniers Disease for more than 30 years and Nancy can learn to live with it and make adjustments like you and she have talked about.  It isn't life threatening but it can mess things up when she is having an episode.  My Meniers is in remission right now but it can come back at any time.

Like everyone else in the world, I am trying to stay as cool as possible.  But, even though I don't want to wish my life away, I am really looking forward to Autumn's cooler temps.

I hope Gloria is doing better.

Take care, All.

I've had the nicest people to talk to when calling, lots of good advice about what your choices are, and make sure you write down the name of the person you talk to!  Are you a good cook?  Nancy can sit right there and tell you how to bake that peach pie!

Good morning..

Nice to come in here and read good news. Lloyd, great that Nancy is home and hope all goes well for you both.

Yesterday was a busy one but ended off enjoying a cuppa tea on the verandah with our neighbour. Now I need to put away the spoils from yesterday after I label the jars.

Weather is starting to be more liveable thank goodness. There was a tornado touch down south east of us ,lot of damage but no one was hurt.

Phyliss, I agree Meineres is not nice, it got to a point that I didn't even want to eat!

Jane, did you have fun with the kids?

Best get a wiggle on and get ready to meet the day.

Enjoy your day and stay  safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  LLOYD, I'm so happy to hear that Nancy has come home!  Just coming home will be a big part of her recovery!  I know when I got out of the hospital in November, I was ready for anything!

AMY, the kids didn't show up yesterday!  They all went with friends to the water park and I can sure understand that!  It was hot and being wet probably felt good!  But I got a lot of knitting done and I have some stuff ready for Christmas already!  Today will be another knitting day until the kids show up!

Cindy has to make a trip to Dallas on Friday to the office that is her official employer.  They have other people from other offices coming in and it's going to be a busy day for her.  Her plan is to stay over Friday night with a friend and they and one other former neighbor will be going out to dinner.  I sure hope she has a good one!!  And I hope she has a lovely visit with old friends!

We're leaving for home on Saturday the 6th of August and will be ther on Sunday the 7th.  Cindy will spend some time there with a friend that she's known since kindergarten.  She grew up a few houses down the street from where we lived and they've been friends ever since.  They get together every time she's in PA.  And they talk constantly when she's not there.  Then when she comes back home, her daughter, Courtney who lives in West Chester, PA is coming back with her for a week's visit!  Lots of good stuff happening!

Once again...I'm so happy to hear that Nancy is home!

I wish everyone a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Thank you, Jane, for saying you missed me. :)

Amy, I'm sorry you have to deal with Meniere's, too.  The hardest thing that I have to deal with, besides the imbalance, vertigo, nausea, etc., is the loss of my hearing.  The ENT doctor tested me years ago and I did not have any hearing at all in my right ear and only 50% in my left ear and that has grown worse over the years.  I wear one hearing aid in the left ear and that helps....but not a whole lot.  That is why I isolate a lot.  Just can't hear what people are saying to me and absolutely hate asking them to repeat over and over.  Most people are kind but some get really irritated and that upsets me....so I rarely go out anymore.  Thank goodness, I have David to translate for me.  I can not go anywhere without him now.  I am so grateful for his help.

Sorry, everyone, I don't like whining so that's why I try not to do it here.  I apologize.

Take care, All.

A good Wednesday  to EVERYFRIEND  ‼️

I thought sure I posted here yesterday, but.....no can see a post‼️

I had a rough Physical Therapy session yesterday, so utilized my "downtime" to get some posting done.

Monday I had another National Jewish doctor appointment.
This was to see a Pulmonary Hypertension doc.  She was a delightful lady that is the section head and what a thorough doctor she is.  The good news is.....she cleared me of having Pulmonary Hypertension.  She wants me to still see a cardiologist to get another opinion of what might be causing my need for oxygen.  She asked me to see one of their diabetic specialists as well and to possibly consider a regimented$ Keto Diet as I have kind of plateaued on my current weight loss diet that I have dropped just over 40 ponds on.  I have never been one to try all the MANY weight loss programs, but this one she is recommending sounds intriguing to me.

My brother will arrive in AZ to pick up our dads cremains, death certificates, etc. I am anxious for his return so we can get on to scheduling a memorial.

Loved hearing about your nice visit together, CALLIE and JANE. WISH we all had the opportunity to visit each other 🥰

Guess I better get this posted. My best to you all. Special prayers for Nancy, LLOYD.  I do hope she will do well now that she is home and having care to come in to help her feel better.

Long past my bedtime but have been saving photos from the oldest computer that has the last of PSP on it, got done what was needed & came up to the newest computer to see if all did as it was supposed to.... lots & lots of photos & files & I kinda go lost in looking at them.

I keep checking for word from Gloria's daughter & will copy what she had to say, not what we wanted to hear....

Thank you for checking in on mom, for a few days it seemed as if the fog had lifted and maybe she'd get better. But that didn't last long. Not getting better and can't even answer her phone anymore, or know how it works. We are just praying the good Lord will see fit to take her quickly and not have her linger in the state she's in. Mom would  never want to stay on earth in the condition she's in. So if there are still people in the soda shoppe/ Seniors and friends that are praying, pray for her not to linger in her current condition. Mom would just hate that she can't do anything, or even recognize anyone. This stuff came on pretty suddenly, so she has has a say in things around her, right up to the last two weeks. That's a big blessing!

We are lucky to have known her.  I'm sorry her family didn't get to be with her & hold her hand. My prayers will be that she is at peace and not in pain.

Good morning

Not the news we wanted to hear Shirley, I along with others expected Gloria to beat this and come back. Prayers for her and her family. I do believe in miracles and just maybe...

Holiday here this weekend, town will be crawling with people. Will get what we need (milk) and get home.

Many chores to get done and some will and some won't.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Well, I knew there was a reason why I was putting off coming into the Soda Shoppe this morning.  I must have been expecting the bad news about GLORIA!  I truly hope she isn't suffering and that she doesn't have to suffer.  I'm still praying for her but at her daughter's request, I'll alter the content.  Praying for what is best for GLORIA is the best prayer!

We actually have rain in OK this morning.  We sure did need it and we're supposed to have it until around noon!  Also, the temp is down a bit...it's only 75º! And the sun is hiding behind all those rain clouds!

I don't know if the kids are coming over today or not.  I guess we'll find out!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Not what we wanted to hear about Gloria. We're losing another one with links to our start in SeniorNet, PSP, and Seniors & Friends. I will miss the Gloria I knew and remember all she's given us in her journey.

I'm off to town again this morning with Claire to help feed her animals at the fairgrounds and visit with friends and neighbors camped there. Still no word on when they can expect to go home. I'm also picking up my new glasses. This dates back to the big winter blowout in 2020 when I fell, lost my glasses in the deep snow, and found a saved older pair to use until they started falling apart. It'll be interesting to see how the new ones change things or if they do.

Thank you, Shirley, for keeping us updated on Gloria.  I add my prayers to those that have been expressed.

Lloyd, glad that Nancy is able to be at home and hope the best for the both of you.

Jane, it's cooler where you are than over here in the central part!  Very gloomy day but no rain...yet.  The bouquet your granddaughter made is still gorgeous.  I'm enjoying it so much.
Tell Cindy to wave as she goes through my hometown on her way to Dallas.

Gentle hugs to all who are dealing with issues themselves or with loved ones.  I'm fine but family is not.

One dil's cancer has returned after her radical double mastectomy 11 years ago. She's the wife of #1 son and the mother of the Grands.

#2 son has been diagnosed with "extreme" diverticulosis (the condition not the disease) and can't get in to see a gastro doctor until mid-August. He's basically eating liquid/soft foods and isn't in as much pain as he was several days ago - probably helping the numerous diverticula that showed up on the CT scan and are inflamed).

Just learned that Grandson has Covid and is quarantining in his Dallas area apartment by himself. That will be emotionally hard for him - since no one can go to be with him and he can't come home.  Don't know how sick he feels but his blood oxygen was low and he was put on that pill now prescribed for Covid.

And that's what's going on in my world.

Callie, that is a blessing...good news!!

The neighbour has the diverticulosis, she has to be very careful on what she eats. Takes the seeds out of tomatoes  and cucumbersOther fruits she just by passes them.

My mother had it and I remember she had to avoid seeds, nuts, "kernels" (rice/corn)- basically anything that could get stuck in the diverticula. Those are the basic "no-nos" but everyone is different on what other foods to avoid.  For instance, she could eat lettuce but not cabbage.
I also have it - but not as badly. My advice was to "figure out what bothers you and don't eat it".  First thing I discovered was raw vegetables!  That puts me out of step with ALL the current trend toward salads!!!
Am looking up recipes for "Smoothies with protein" to share with him.

Callie, I am sorry to hear about your family's diverticulosis diagnosis. My family has the genetics for that as well; my mom had, and my older sister has it. It's not the worse disease/condition, but it ranks up there!

Phyllis, I copied it as well. There are so many things I can no longer do, so many restrictions on what I can do that I knew the minute I saw that post that I needed it for an affirmation; thank you!

We've dropped twenty degrees and had frost this morning! The hits keep coming.

Finally, after two months of issues, DO NOT RECCOMEND that place! I finally received my new glasses. These are to replace the ones lost in the 10/2020 record snowfall and the ones I found to use that were three prescriptions before the ones I lost!

After looking through the glasses, I see fine for distance but need to look below the lens or take them off for close work.

Here to say Good Night and God Bless. Just thinking how empty life would be if y'all were not in my daily life.  So sorry about what's going on with your family, Callie. I talk to God every night before going to sleep, sometimes I fall asleep in the middle of our talk but I'm sure HE understands!

I also loved the "Pep talk", Phyllis, copied to send to everyone that needs it. Tiger wanted out again tonight so I let her go. She should be old enough to take care of herself and I sure need a full night of sleep! Poor baby, she does miss Tom & Callie. Morning comes pretty early around here. Weather showing no rain tonight but may be cool enough to have the slider open for fresh air. I'm thinking birds are migrating already. We didn't get hardly any rain so will get up & run sprinklers early & work on the pool before it gets too hot.

Patricia, even after cataract surgery I still have to wear glasses to read the street signs/names but have to take glasses OFF to use the computer or read fine print.. I did get progressive glasses & was supposed to be able to do all with glasses on, didn't work.  They were about 3x the price of regular & I used my old frames. I think the doctor had me get glasses made before the eyes were ready/healed... been over a year now & when I abuse the eyes the bones around feel like someone hit me in the temple. Could be worse & I do find comfort to know all these aches & pains are pretty normal as we age!

Oops, you snuck in, Lloyd. My mother used to say that often, Lloyd. Hope Nancy had a good day.

Good evening; 7:35 here, and I'm about to shut this down.

Callie, we're all familiar with mansplaining; perhaps we should add medsplaining?

Shirley, I had spinal meningitis as an infant at the hospital shortly after birth. One of the issues it left me was a progressive lazy eye. I've had nine operations, but the muscle slackens and moves again. Now, I'm told it's not worth another operation as, at this stage, everything droops anyway.

They can't make a lens to fit the situation, but you always learn to compensate. The worse is not knowing where something is that I can't move around; unfortunately, that doesn't work with most things. My left eye is usually lower and to one side than my right eye. The brain has its solution and ignores the left one. They tried having me wear a patch a couple of times, but that doesn't work in a progressive situation.

As Lloyd said, there is always someone worse off.

I guess 2-3 hours sleep is all I hope to get anymore, wake up & tummy is growling so I eat & go back to bed for more zzzzzs. Tiger was waiting at the door for me (door by the computer, she knows where I stop first).

Patricia, my oldest niece developed "sleepy eye" at about 4-5 years old. She sucked her thumb & hooked her finger over her nose blocking one eye.... so they tried the patch over the good eye to make her use the other but too late. She is in her mid 60s now and no vision at all in the one eye. I think she's had the muscle tightened like you said, but nothing they can do about the lost vision. She inherited her mother's love of performing & belongs to the local theater group & she & her husband own a nursery & landscape business and she does much of the thinking & planning for that, plus she's had a number of different jobs since college, working at the newspaper, etc. She also does hand weaving & spins her own wool, crafty person!  Now that she is past retirement age she is loving having a "stall" to sell different types of things she does. Keeps busy but everything uses the eyes, so always a concern, right? Love your slogan!

Going to fix an egg sandwich & back to bed. Guess I'll turn on the sprinklers first, the 2 front zones get 35-40 min each so the roots go down instead of coming to the surface looking for water! We didn't get hardly any rain, no flooding here this week!

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I came by last evening and read and I just couldn't post!  It seemed like everyone who posted had serious problems and I'd had a very good day and I just didn't know what to say!  I do sympathize with all the problems that many of you are facing and I keep you in my prayers daily but.....

Now, this morning, I read LLOYD'S entry about the shoes and feet and it hit home!

Cindy is doing her day in Dallas today and it includes an overnight stay with an old friend from her neighborhood and dinner with her and another friend!  I'm happy that she can keep these friendships.  But I miss her, too!

I'm going to be working on my knitting today.  I have a piece to finish and I'm also trying to put together my picture of "Jim's Egg Thingies" with the recipe so I can post it.  I'll miss Cindy more while I try to work that out because she's my mentor!

CALLIE, when I go home, I'm going to try to put a circle thing around my bird feeder like you have around yours.  Thanks for the idea!  Also, I have included your family in my daily prayers!

I hope you all have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Good Morning,

Patio is covered with this liquid.  I think it's what some call "rain".  Been so long since I've seen any.... ???

Jane, Son cleared the sod around the bird feeders, laid down some kind of covering, added edging and filled the space with small pebbles.  It surely does keep the dropped seeds from falling on the grass and sprouting.
I "grease" the bird feeder pole with petroleum jelly (whatever brand of Vaseline I can find) to keep the squirrels from getting to the feeders?  Funny to see them leap up and then slide back down.  I get lots of glares and tail swishing aimed at the windows.

BTW, posts about Good Days are helpful.  :smitten:

Housecleaner just arrived.  I'll "help" by staying out of the way.

Enjoy your day, Everyfriend.

Callie, I used to grease the hummingbird feeder to keep the ants away but they just crawled over other ant bodies that had gotten stuck and got into the feeder anyway so I gave up.  And, we had a bird feeder that would close down if a squirrel jumped on it.  It worked just great until the raccoons tore the whole thing down along with the bird bath that we had in the garden.  We just gave up.   :'(   Now, we feed the winter birds the old-fashioned way...we spread seed out on the ground or if there is snow, on the cleared deck or driveway, and just let squirrels, birds, raccoons, whatever feed themselves until they are full.  The summer birds find enough in our woods to eat....bugs, worms, bramble berries, seeds of all kinds.  And, the squirrels strip the nuts from the hickory trees and the acorns from the oaks.  But, I do miss watching the hummingbirds right outside my window.

Good morning; we woke this morning to higher temperatures and blue skies.

Shirley, I never meant to play the "poor me" card. My handicap played a role but not the starring one in life and made me both stronger and wiser. It's how you play the cards you're given.

I'm on the run but can't leave unsaid, Patricia. I've never thought you EVER played the "poor me" card. As long as I've kept up with your posts I've admired your "go get'em" attitude, especially those long walks through the parks & bird sanctuaries to get to work.

I wanted you to know about my niece & fact that nothing ever stopped her, either. In fact, I was going to tell you "the rest of the story" but ran out of time.  As a young married mother she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer & not only had all those parts removed but was on a year long chemo .... my mother sent me an interview from their local paper where, instead of whining (like I would have been doing), she made a point of saying that "one of the worst parts was (because of chemo) she had NO hair on her head and NO eyebrows but she still had to shave her legs!"  She did have the one baby/son & I did compare her sorrows with yours and think you are both tough cookies! Like you say, "it's what you do with what you have......" or something like that.

Got to make a run to Walmart....we never did get but a few sprinkles but too windy now to run the sprinklers.  The moisture just floats off into the air. It was nice this morning but I was still searching for stuff so didn't get out.

Northern Oklahoma has become a hot/wet area this weekend instead of it's usual hot/dry area.  We're just ending our second rainy day with two more predicted!  And you can almost hear the ground swallowing it down!

It's been a rather quiet day around here today.  Cindy left for Dallas around 5 a.m. and neither Jim nor I are all that talkative.  He's a baseball fan and I have my knitting and reading.  We each took care of our own breakfast and ate lunch and supper together.  He fed the doggies and I went out with them!  I did lunch and he did supper.  It was a quiet and a sharing day!  We each had our space!

Tomorrow, Ali and the kids will probably be here and Cindy will be home around 2 o'clock.  Things will be hopping then!  You are all still in my prayers and I hope you all get what you need most!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

We have enjoyed a very nice day celebrating our 55th wedding anniversary 🦋🦋

It started out with some tears as I looked at pictures one son shared of our 50th.  Michele was the one that did most all of the planning and adding the special touch of a life sized Bob and Jenny cut out on our wedding day. One picture of Michele showed the biggest smile and it brought me to tears.  I am not sure if I will ever get over her passing away😩😢🦋

CALLIE, I am sad to read the news in your family.  Your DIL's cancer returning is heartbreaking 💔

PATRICIA, your story of life is extremely heartbreaking, but as Shirley has pointed out, you have never let your problems stop you from doing what was and is required in life.  You are one very special lady🥰🥰

Still in my dress up clothes, so need to post this and go get my Jammie's n.

Pleasant dreams to EVERYFRIEND ‼️

Good morning...

Another warm one ot there today, starting out a 53° but  is climbing too fast .
Yesterday was busy,I did get a lot done but hope to just bake pies and bread today. Can't imagine our parents and grandparents baking in the hot weather without C/A..

Jenny, congradulation you you and Bob. That is a mile stone to reach and pray you have many more to enjoy!!

Jane, sounds like you and Jim have pattern set for the day. Works well for both of you and the doggies.

Lloyd, good to hear that Nancy is feeling a lot better.

Patricia, that is so true what MaryZ said. My friend was married over 60 years and lived 16 years after and not a day went by thathe didn't think of her. They always did things together, helped each other daily and not one bad word for either one was said from either one.

Shirley, your story reminded me of my friend. We were coming back from trying on a wig as chemo was taking her hair. Mood was a little sullen until she suddenly said...you know what??? I won't have to have my hair cut, I won't have to use a lot of shampoo, just think of the money saved I can buy fabric with!!

Better get the day going.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

I think Shirley's friend would get along famously with yours!

Nothing new here. Claire just left to spend the day and night with Alan and Dora at the fair campgrounds.

I think everyone I've met on this forum and on other preceding forums have had more to offer than one can imagine!  You have all done well with your lives and you all continue to do well.  If we just keep putting our best foot forward and planning ahead we'll leave behind the best of memories!

I lost a long-time friend this week.  She was the first person y age that I met when I moved to Lewisburg a month before my 10th birthday.  And I can't help thinking that the best part of that friendship wad the next generation.  My middle daughter and her only daughter have been best friends for most of their lives, too.  So life does go on!

Cindy and I are going over to Ali's to babysit tonight while Dan and Ali have a night out.  It's been a long time since they've done this so they deserve it!

And tomorrow, Ali and I are canning again!  It's been put off and now we HAVE to do it before I head for home next Saturday!

I hope you are all having a better day than yesterday!  Keep on keeping on!  I love and respect every one of you!

Time to slow down. Baking done and some delivered . Someone messed up the kitchen but it is now clean...for now:))

Jane, what a great teacher you are for Ali, talk about getting the best learning from you.

Patricia, my friend and I hit the quilt shows, within reason. I was lucky enough to go to a quilt retreat with her,  where all we did was sew ,eat and sleep :))

That sounds wonderful Amy! I've been lucky enough to go to some quilt guild showings in Alaskaland's Pioneer Park. Some of the freestyle ones were very inventive and were all so unique and colorful.

Good morning..

A welcomed day of rest here..may get a chance to get fabric cut out for another quilt today.

No sign of rain until Tue (maybe) so I watered the gardens last night. This had been a funny year for the garden, some potatoes blossumed while others didn't. Threw a small  potato in the compost bin and it grew and flowered!!Parsnips have an 18 inch top on them and I hope it doesn't mean all top no bottom:(

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

Good Morning Everyfriend!  We woke up to another rainy day!  Oklahoma really NEEDS the rain!  It's been so dry and so hot here for the past month that you can still hear the ground swallowing and saying "Thank You!"!!!

I'm just biding my time this morning until Emma is ready to go school shopping with Cindy and Ali and I can do the canning.  Gonna be a busy day for all of us.  Dan will be responsible for keeping Mikey out of our hair while we can.  And with the rain, he won't be able to do that outside!  He'll be a busy guy!

AMY, I envy you the quilts you make!  I know, first hand that  they're beautiful because of the one I got when I had my cancer surgery.  And also from the pictures you've posted!

Cindy just came down from her shower and dressing time so we're moving on!  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Thank you both for the birthday wishes! I'm enjoying the day so far; it's raining outside, but it's warmer, and we hit 76 yesterday and will be back in the seventies next week. Generally, August is a rainy but cool-down month, but these past years have shown that nothing is guaranteed weatherwise.

Jane, I agree with you about the quilts. I could see that firsthand in Kentucky with some prized quilts held by families from the pre-revolution days. My then mother-in-law told me about girls her age carrying on the tradition of passing on old bridal quilts as part of their heritage.

We also have that program here through the local guild. They provide quilts for those suffering from severe illness or recovery and to go home with babies from the various hospitals.

Amy, the photos I've seen of yours are lovely, and I hope you keep a picture of each one. There was a man in this building sadly lost to Covid, who knitted and gave away most of his work to those in need.

Callie, we posted together, or almost. Thank you for the birthday wishes!

Happy Birthday, Patricia!

(I envy you the 70 degree weather!  It's edging close to 100 on my front porch, which is now in the shade.)

Emma has everything she needs for school in two weeks and Ali has 5 pints of salsa from a recipe that she doubled.  She said "the next time I do it, I'll have to quadruple the recipe!"  I guess that means she's hooked on the canning stuff.  She seemed to like doing it and I forgot to take a picture of it.  Darn!

Now I'm going back to my knitting!  I hope you are all having a good day.  Keep it up!

I'm off to the haystack and I don't know when I'll be able to check in tomorrow because Cindy's cleaning crew comes early and my computer will be going to bed until after they leave.  We had a good rest of the day and I for one and ready sleep pretty soon.  I think I'll go up and get ready for bed and read until I can't keep my eyes open any more.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one...especially Gloria who needs Him and my friend Gracie who has gone to be with Him!

I've been in & out so many times the last 2 days but each time I get a long message typed and it vanishes. Got to get back to using WordPad again.  Anyway, I remembered somebody had a happy birthday and somebody else had a "happy" but couldn't rememember who had what. Before I could back-track to figure out the phone would ring & for whatever reason, I'd lose the post & forget what I was doing. My head is scrambled this week.

Happy 55th Anniversary to Bob & Jenny.... Not an easy time to be happy with making the arrangements for your father so just know lots of us out here that love ya and thinking of you.

And a very Happy Birthday to you, Patricia!  If I remember (and more often don't remember anything right)... you are one of the younger members of this family, right?  Hope it's been a good day for you.

Jane, I'm thoroughly enjoying your trip to teach the kids how to can!  So sorry I didn't get there to visit with you & Callie. I feel like I've lost 2 years and now another couple of weeks or more with this super heat.

Callie, do hope life shapes up for your family, a little bit of bad news goes a long way especially when it seems the whole world is a mess right now (weather AND news)

I've blown another day and didn't get anything done I wanted.... back to heat and the 10 days ahead sure doesn't look good to me. Bring on fall OR even winter!

Hugs for all and God Bless.

Thanks, Shirley; I did have a nice one and even had a friend attempt to bake me a cake with all known allergins taken out. It was quite an experiment, somewhat dense,  but it was a nice gift for me in the attempt.

Now that I've passed seventy in the rearview, I can no longer lay claim even slightly to late or upper middle age. P. Roe called me a junior-senior back, in the beginning, you might remember. She also took issue with my screen name, saying I had a perfectly good name. She was a character.
