Corona Virus

CV-19 sweeps thru Arizona. We are still warm so people can have their Thanksgiving dinner outside. I hope they do.

jane

I do believe it's underreported...tests hard or impossible to come by...or those who refuse to go to doc, but say they think they had it.

What's scary about that is the long term effects they blow off...blood clots my BIL has been warned about...and shortness of breath that can hang on and pneumonia, etc.

Jane

...

diglady

I fear the long term health of our citizens. Anyone who has had CV-19 and recovered seem to have long term effects. They are called long haulers. How will this affect our job market? Or health care. Everything?

patricia19

I agree, and the immunity only lasts so far, perhaps four months in some cases. And like other respiratory ailments, as the virus mutates, you can catch that virus strain even as you've had another. That's why there will be new immunizations needed.

Some people have needed double lung transplants and other severe measures. They will need to be protected, which means immunizations will need to be widespread and taken religiously. You cannot argue some sort of personal liberty that exempts you or your children from catching and passing this on again to the most vulnerable among us.

jane

I reaI don't any of them know how long immunity lasts.  Why have some people gotten it twice, etc.  It's just too new  to know long term stuff.

Take the vaccine even if you've already had coronavirus, Fauci says

He and the other noted infectious disease docs are the only ones I trust....not politicians who don't seem to know....well, you know.   :knuppel2:

patricia19

I agree Jane, the four months figure is one that was noted in a number of reinfections but not the only amount of time between recovery and reinfection.

patricia19

Pew research said in a survey released tonight that over half of Americans, 54% know someone with COVID-19 or knows someone who has died from it.

jane

I'm guessing that closer to Christmas and after, it'll be a lot higher than 54%.

They've (Multiple sources both medical and scientific); said that we're now increasing a million per day in new cases and expect January to be a watershed. Of course, the anti-vaxxers are already out there alleging conspiracies regarding needing a vaccination.

Yesterday, the fourth, there were 756 new state cases, 25 of those were local. Today we jumped to 933 new cases and 89 of those were local. Unsurprisingly, Anchorage and outskirts, whose people have been so against lockdowns, had thirteen deaths today.

patricia19

So, for any of you who may not keep track of European news, who says Brussels, Belgium is boring? A rabid antigay Belgian politician who co-started an antigay political party was just busted trying to escape the police from a gay orgy with twenty-four other naked gay men by climbing out a window and down a drainpipe. He apologized, only calling it a "private party," for breaking Covid restrictions

jane

There should be a particular punishment for all these hypocrites...political, religious, "pillars of the community" who say/do one thing publicly and "in private" do the exact opposite.  Can you tell that's one of my Pet Peeves?   ::)  ;D

Concern among legal experts is growing after Florida data scientist Rebekah Jones had her home raided by armed state police on Monday. Jones was fired in May after accusing Gov. Ron DeSantis' administration of minimizing the pandemic and skewing state data. Jones says she has evidence that state officials lied about early numbers and reporting. Now, state authorities are investigating whether she accessed a government messaging system without authorization to send a message urging her former colleagues to speak out about coronavirus deaths. Jones hasn't been arrested or charged with anything, and legal experts worry materials taken during the raid could affect other state employees. Others are concerned about what the raid, which was recorded, says about the actions of American police.

FlaJean

I check Rebekah Jones' site everyday as it is the most accurate.  It was up and running today as usual.  I saw her on TV last night and she said she had never seen the message that was in question until a reporter sent her a copy.  The whole thing was a sad commentary on the way our governor does business.  Even 'tho the governor has supposedly opened up everything and you rarely see him wearing a mask, I notice the government employees wear masks.  We went to renew our passports yesterday and all employees were wearing masks and most of the people I saw were also wearing masks.

patricia19

It is truly scary that in times such as these, during a serious surging pandemic that politics and the old buddies network still comes into play.

patricia19

I read a time magazine article about COVID vaccines. Not only do you need to schedule a second dose but the vaccine doesn't stop you from getting infected but keeps you from getting dangerously sick. It's a distinction that gets lost in the discussion of "efficacy." At this point, efficacy does not refer to the vaccine's ability to prevent infection with the virus but rather its ability to protect against the disease the virus causes: covid-19. There's no way to tell for sure whether the vaccinations confer total immunity for anyone else.

What is clear is that the vaccine appears to prevent you from getting sicker once you are infected- and that is still a huge advantage over the virus, as severe Covid-19 can send people to intensive care. The more infected people who experience milder symptoms and recover at home, the less burden on the health care system all of which contribute to better control of the pandemic.

However because the present vaccines do not necessarily protect against infection, we shouldn't, abandon public health measures, ie social distancing, and masks at this time. This is all preliminary as it will take time to get even a small number vaccinated.

" Hopefully, as the country and the world gets massively vaccinated, this virus will be essentially backed in with no place to go because everybody is protected." per Dr. Fauci.

patricia19

The scams have already started re the vaccine. Remember

1. You likely will not need to pay anything out of pocket to get the vaccine during this public health emergency.

2. You cannot pay to put your name on a list to get the vaccine.

3. You cannot pay to get early access to the vaccine.

4. No one from Medicare or the Health Department will contact you.

5. No one from a vaccine distribution site or health care payer, like a private insurance company, will call you asking for your Social Security number, your credit card, or bank account information to sign you up to get the vaccine.

6. Beware of providers offering other products, treatments, or medicines to prevent the virus.

7. Check with your health care provider before paying for or receiving any COVID-19-related treatment.

8. If you get a call, text, email — or even someone knocking on your door — claiming they can get you early access to the vaccine, STOP. That's a scam.

Those who think this is "nothing but the flu" aren't paying attention.  The complications for the "long haul" are nasty, indeed.  My brother-in-law who's 78 and in good healthy still isn't back to normal in his blood counts.  He's still getting daily injections of a blood thinner, in addition to what he takes orallly...and has 6 or so days left for those shots.

Stay safe and healthy!

Here in Arizona our hospital ICU beds are full and people are being transferred to--out of state? Cases are way up and people are dying. All elective surgery has been cancelled. Unfortunately we have Trumper's who continue to believe this is a hoax and refuse to wear mask.

patricia19

I read that some western states have run out of body bags, and emergency production is going on. That's a horrible idea to contemplate! It's not as bad here only due to our lower population, but numbers are fluctuating, and altho it could go either way, it may be on the way down.

January isn't going to be easy for anyone. And still, conspiracy theorists are going crazy with outlandish and dangerous to others around them, theories!

patricia19

Speaking of crazy...

The vaccine can last for up to 12 hours without refrigeration, but "most of it had to be discarded," the hospital said"

CV-19 vaccine appointment being cancelled due to lack of vaccine. Trump screwed everything up so badly, even distribution of the vaccine.

Az still the worlds leader in number of cases.  Wow what a thing to be leader in! Awful.

My neighbor husband and wife have the virus. Brought to them by their great-grand child. He is in the hospital and she is doing ok at home-so far.

Lucky me, I had my first vaccine shot last week at VA

FlaJean

Diglady, have you had any reactions to the vaccination?  My health provider sent a notice out that they have received no information about when the vaccinations will be available, but this Florida so not surprising.

I had heard that vaccines would be available to all those 65 and over due to the large Alaskan Native voting bloc on January eleventh, but now I understand they started on the sixth of January. We were the fourth tier, and they moved us up to second on the sixth.

"January 20, 2021 ANCHORAGE – Alaska now counts more people who have been vaccinated with their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and reported into VacTrAK – the state's immunization tracking system – than residents who have tested positive for COVID-19 whose cases have been entered into the state's data dashboard.

Alaska is also currently ranked first among states for the percentage of people per capita who have been given at least one shot, according to the Bloomberg vaccine tracker which pulls from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's database and state dashboards. Alaska's per capita vaccination rate is 9.93 doses given per 100 people, according to Bloomberg. West Virginia is ranked second, with 8.94 doses per 100 people. Please note that this data is updated frequently, so please check the Bloomberg tracker for current statistics. "

It also helps that we have the second smallest population in the largest state.

diglady

Regarding reactions from vaccine: my arm was sore for a few days but heck the muscle had been injured by a needle --like any other shot.  Days 2-4 feelings of hot and cold --Not chills or fever- just extra warm take sweater off- cold put sweater back on!!

I believe the new cases of CV-19 are finally dropping here but not by much. Unfortunately this was a Trump state and many idiots didn't wear masks and thought this was a hoax. Many too many dead. Morgue has 20 refrigerated trucks out side on stand by. Distribution of vaccine royally crewd up. Some shot centers closed-many with appointment cancelled.

Trump has done so much damage I believe intentionally so as to gain power ie Hitler. It will take ages to get things back to "normal"
