Yes,  the link did work for me.    This is the copy of the comment I sent and also a short video of the Air Boat heading out on the lake.

Joy, I saw the video of the airboat but not your comment, but I can go to the Duluth site to find that.  I must have looked at Two Harbors around then because I did see at least four vehicles lined up at the water's edge.  I don't recall seeing the airboat but by the time it got out a bit, it looked like a shanty.

After that video was finished, there was a video of "the largest boat on the Great Lakes" coming into Duluth.  I don't know when, but it came through ice and, of course, was the Paul R Tregurtha.  Then I watched a kitten video; they had everything!

The other day we got a new Scratch Lounge for Kendrick and a packet of catnip came with it.  I put the packet  in a drawer in this room, not where other parcels are.  I just looked and Kendrick was pawing inside the drawer and eventually got the packet out of the drawer.  At that point, I took it away from him and closed the drawer, but he kept sniffing at the drawer.  I don't know if he was able to open the drawer earlier or if I had left it ajar.  But he was funny!

It is snowing around here and you can't see a thing at Grand Haven.  Tom was out and said it is windy.

We are having roast beef for supper tonight, prepared in the Instant Pot!

Joy, that is so neat!  I'm tempted to add a comment that other "ladies in their 80's" from Oklahoma, Michigan, California and other parts of the world are also watching and enjoy discussing what we're seeing.

(Mary Ann - hope you won't mind being a bit younger so the rhyme will fit.  :) :) )

Jackie,  not sure you watch the boats but, if you do,  hope you won't mind being a bit older.... :) )

Callie..
...not sure what I am to be watching but as for being older, I will be in 18 more days...

What is this rhyme? :-[

Very strange, though June Drabek was in, her profile is not showing she was in, says the last time she visited was Feb 24th...think she was viewing an XML file format, not sure what exactly that means, I know our Larry Hanna would know.

Jackie,  some of us watch live web cams of Duluth (Michigan) Harbor on Lake Superior.  There are several  cam choices listed and the one Joy mentioned is "Two Harbors Boat Launch".

Web cam for Two Harbors

It's almost sunset there now but the cam is on 24/7.   In the summer, big cargo ships come in and out.[/size]

The "rhyme" was in my comment:   "Ladies in their Eighties"  :)

Marilyne

Joy - what a nice message you wrote to the Duluth webcam page, about the air boat!  I can see why the moderator responded, and asked to post your message.

I watched off and on yesterday in hopes of seeing an interesting ice fishing boat or Shanty.  The only activity I saw, were two men walking on the ice and pulling what looked like sleds, with all their fishing equipment.  They loaded it all into a truck, and left, so I'm thinking that the Shanties must be left out on the ice somewhere?

Callie, re, Joys post, 85 year old lady, what would they think... :)

I dont mind being 12 years older but just for today... ;)

Mary Ann

I had an interesting time following Joy's message to the man who manages the cameras for the Duluth channel.  I ended up seeing two or three videos of the Paul R Tregurtha and I think Marilyn would enjoy them.  One was going out of the Duluth canal in gale force winds and I think the winds were no match for the ship.  Another was loading the ship at Duluth (or Superior) and taking it to Detroit and Monroe MI.  Another was being on the ship and seeing various parts of it.  The problem is that the videos change so what I saw may not be available.

Marilyn, go to the Duluth canal, click on home and you will see Joy's message and there will be a video of the air boat going out onto the ice.  When the video has completed, there will be squares of more videos, various subjects, but probably at least one will be of the Paul R Tregurtha.

The roast beef smells delicious.

Mary Ann

MarsGal

Roast Beef! Now that reminds me of Yorkshire Pudding. We used to have it a lot, but in the interests of keeping cholesterol and weight down, I haven't made it in years. The lean cuts just don't have enough fat in them to make it.

I don't watch the canal cams, but I do watch a bunch of Rail cams. My newest to the list is the Tehachapi Depot Railroad Museum web cam. I often get to watch the sunset more than once a day from here, Kansas City, MO, Laramie, WY, Revelstoke, BC, and Tehachapi, CA. I als check out Flagstaff, AZ, Deshler, OH, LaPlata, MO, Ashland, VA and LaGrange, KY. The last two have tracks running down the middle of streets. Ashland is particularly known for the number of people who actually make left hand turns onto the track instead of the road beside it even though it is well marked. Occasionally, a train going through Revelstoke pulls "Government of Canada" container or tank cars that are a beautiful, glossy, cherry red. Also, the mountain behind the town often shows up as a beautiful slate blue.

Patricia, I didn't realize the Runciman book was that old. I thing the date I saw must have been for a later printing. Since I put an ILL in for the book, I didn't list a publication date. I'll be interested to see where the shipped it in from and what printing it is. I don't usually check in on GoodReads posting, so thanks for the link.

Mary Ann

MarsGal, I like Yorkshire pudding and used to make it many years ago.  I had it first on a tour in Canada.  I haven't had it in years.

The railroad cams sound interesting, especially since you see so many.  Neat that you see sunsets all over the continent.

This doesn't provide sunsets that I know of, but in the 30s we were visiting my aunt in Downers Grove IL and the Zephyr train was making its maiden trip so we all went to a place beside the railroad and watched it go by.  They blew the whistle for us.

Tom just brought me my supper and the roast beef is delicious.

Hi Everyone. Another beautiful morning although cloudy but the sun is suppose to shine this afternoon with a high of 53.  Pat has gone to a routine doctor's appointment but shouldn't be gone too long.  Today is the day I have to fill my medicine boxes but it a job I always dread for some strange reason.  I am beginning to wonder when I will turn the corner and begin to feel better.  Our Sunday School class had a chili party last evening and friends brought us containers of chili and soup and corn bread that were left so we have meals prepared for several evenings.  Once again I have read all of the postings but am just going to check in as not up to making individual comments.

Mary Ann

It's good to see your post this morning, Larry.  I was in earlier and no one had visited since I posted at nearly 7 pm last night.  I went back to bed earlier this morning after browsing the folders.  Tom is subbing at Cedar Springs (25 miles north of us) and I was not ready to start anything so that is the reason I went back to bed.  A robo call woke me just before 10 am so I decided to get up to stay.  When I made the bed, Kendrick joined me, so we had a little time together.  He's a good cat and a very neglected cat!

Being that I am alone today, I think I'll have another "go" at my income tax.  I do it in installments and I have to call one company in order to get one 1099DIV.  I tried to get them online but they didn't like my name or password.  I have no idea yet if I'll pay or get a refund.  Then I have to do the State taxes - same thing - pay or get a refund.  I guess I'm happy that I have something to report.

Mary Ann

Joy

Good morning.  It is a very cold, but sunny morning.

Larry, good to see you here this morning.

Mary Ann,  I am going to have my taxes done this afternoon. I used to go to the Senior Center and volunteers from AARP did them, but they can't get enough volunteers anymore, so I am going  to one of the county offices where they do them for seniors.  I went there last year, and was satisfied, plus it doesn't cost me anything.  Mine is a very simple  form to do.  I probably could do it myself, but since it doesn't cost me anything, I will let someone else do it. My daughter-in-law will take me and it is only about 20 min. away.  I get most of it all back.  My daughter-in-law thinks I should have less taken out,  but I like to get those 2 nice checks every year at tax time.  I get along fine on what I get.  We still pay Maryland state income tax, and I get all what they take out, back.

JUst wanted to say Hi !.  Need to get myself going here.

Have a pleasant day.

Marilyne

Good morning to Larry, Mary Ann, Jackie and Joy:

Mary Ann - I followed your directions, in hopes of seeing the video of the Paul Tregurtha, that you mentioned?  I saw the page of "squares", (videos to choose from), that came up right after the air boat but none of them was Paul?  The only big ship was an ice breaker.  The rest were smaller boats or other unrelated videos.  I would like to see the one showing Paul, if you can lead me to it?

Jackie - I also saw June Drabek's name at the bottom.  As you said, it seemed that she was here for quite a while, but was in a folder called xml.  I don't know what that is either, but thought maybe the initials ML referred to Member List?

FlaJean

Joy, what a nice letter.  I look at the Duluth, Sou, and Grand Haven web cams every couple of days. I never knew they existed until Mary Ann mentioned them.

Good to see Larry checking in.  Mary Ann, I wish I could have some of your roast beef dinner.  It's getting close to lunch time and that muffin I had for breakfast is long gone.

Marilyne, we get so little news about how things are going with the people who lost everything in the fires.  It seems the news just jumps on the latest and then you never hear what happens after.  Right now we are hearing about the tornadoes in Alabama.  Has anyone heard from Sue?

It is cold here again today.  Supposed to have a high in the 50s.  The azaleas are blooming and the dogwoods are starting to bloom.  I took a photo of my Candytuft—so white and pretty.  We have about 6 or 7 small plants that we put in last year and they are all full of blooms.  I tried attaching a picture in the photo folder but it works a little differently than it did and I gave up after trying a couple of times.  Not wasting anymore time on that when I have other things I'd rather do—-like reading a good book.

Have a good day everyone.

...glad somebody else saw what I saw, re, June Drabek was in yesterday...thought for a minute I was the only one... Yes that was the file format folder she was in XML ...( Extensible Markup Language ) much like HTML, whatever that refers to..

Mary Ann

I wrote a long piece, answering people and when I posted it went into Preview.  I saw   part of my message was not coded, so tried to fix that and ended up with the paragraph that was not coded.  When I tried to retrieve the other part of my message it was nowhere to be found.  I'll rewrite it later but in the meantime Kendrick and I are going to nap.

Mary Ann

Mary Ann

It is now 3:15 and I see my post of 1:31 was the last one.  Well, I am back; I've napped and had lunch so I'll see if I can do better this time.

Jean, the roast beef was delicious as was the sandwich I had for lunch today.  I love roast beef sandwiches.  I envy you your flowers and I like the avatar of Blue Daze.  We started out at 10 degrees this morning and it is now 21 degrees.

Marilyn, I'll go the ship site to see what Paul might be there.  After I view something, another video takes it place.  I believe I saw three different videos of Paul.

Joy, I do my taxes by way of Turbo Tax and it costs me $40.  That is the only way I have done my taxes for many years and I've never had an accountant do them.  Mine are fairly simple too, however, I do have some investments that others may not have.

This isn't as long as the previous one, however, it covers the same territory.

Good late morning from the Interior. Farrah is at the vet after literally growling in her carrier from the apartment, down the elevator through the cab and the vet office.$545.00 as it stands right now for the exam, cleaning, blood work, and dental x-ray.

I'm confused at all this talk about June. If you go to the member list, she or her login haven't been active since February 23rd. An xml folder is one for chat and or notebook files. HTML is the coding that allows us to write and post here in S&F and other similar types of forums or file pages. However, according to site records, June or her login hasn't been active since February.

I'm supposed to go pick up Farrah at 4:30 and it's going to be interesting for a time!

Mary Ann

Patricia, I know what you mean about Farrah growling in the cat carrier because last fall we took Kendrick to the vet.  He had not been in a carrier since we got him and he let us know that he was unhappy.  He seldom makes any vocal noise and he let out a screech that should have been heard outside the car; I could hardly believe him.  Once we got him in the vet's building, still in the carrier but beside us, he quieted down and he was very quiet on the way home.  We didn't have to pay nearly as much as you did but we also did not have the work done that you did.  I hope all goes well now.

Marilyn, I sent you two links to Paul R by e-mail.  It just seemed easier that way.

It has been snowing this afternoon, not heavy, but the ground and road is white.  I hear the hand shoveler doing his job.

...but that's the strange thing, you are right, her profile is still showing she hasn't been in since the 24th but her name was showing alongside " users active in past 60 minutes " yesterday...
Yet her profile is not telling us that..
When I clicked on " online " June Drabek was online..

Marilyne

Jackie - I hope you're looking in, because June's name is showing right now!  After reading Jackie's message, I looked at the forum, and down at the bottom where it says Members Online, her name is there . . . just like it was yesterday.

It is a mystery, for sure. I hope she is doing okay.

Tomorrow I make a trip to the library, them I must perform surgery on my toilet. The fill valve is leaking, and since I started monkeying around with the innards, the flush valve decided to start leaking too. Sometimes you just can't win.

We've got a few more days of cold on the agenda, then in the 40's. It isn't to hit 50 until next Sunday, over a week from now. In the meantime, it was sunny today which allowed for some snow melt even though it didn't get above freezing.

Larry, it is good to know your friends are thinking of you. Chili and Cornbread. Yum!

Mary Ann

I wonder if there is something "open" with June's computer that she doesn't know about.  It might also keep her from using the computer.  I'm technically challenged when it comes to something like that.

Mary Ann

MarsGal

I was thinking the same think Mary Ann. She may have it set for "stay logged-in" here, but I am not sure you can actually do that. If you don't logout, doesn't it automatically log you out after awhile?

angelface555

Jackie, yes June logged in as her membership account showed at just after five PM your time. Please, the .xml extension has absolutely nothing at all to do with June. It is an extension, not a login. I have no idea why her name at that time was associated with the extension, but she logged in coincidently an hour or so later. If you actually want to check a member's status, go to their membership account. An extension specifies a type of file not what a person has or hasn't done.

A friend of mine and I were discussing my disability and what has changed and what hasn't. She brought up a valid point that parents still don't think about today. "I'm old enough to remember infant spinal meningitis. I was in the nursing field for 40 some odd years and Spinal Meningitis, as well as the iron lung, have more or less disappeared. However, anyone inflicted with it regardless of severity came away with wounds that no one would ever discover.

I absolutely cringe when I hear about some of these college-age kids coming down with Meningitis (Inflammation of the brain), It drives me nuts that they don't treat it with the seriousness it deserves. We had a widespread outbreak not too many years ago in the different colleges in Washington and Idaho. Some of those kids died."

Marilyne

I think she must be trying to get into the forum, but she's stuck in whatever xml is?  I just looked again, and I see that her name is still showing, but has now moved forward to #1 person on Members Online.  Either she, or someone who knows her user name, is trying to find a folder to post a message?

Mary Ann

I'm surprised if she is having trouble and knows about it that she has not contacted one of her sons, or someone in her building.  It isn't like June to let a problem go so long without asking about it.

Mary Ann

FlaJean, I have all those earth.cams including time square. the first thing I look at is NY harbor there are a couple. I like the one showing the Queen Mary leaving.  I watch GMA every morning, but I check to see the people standing out side.  To day they have a small tent up outside the studio and building something. I will have to see if they mention that to morrow morning
