Marilyn, once a year, many years ago, our little retiree group would plan a trip to Chicago.  A travel company would schedule a trip to see a play and we'd sign on to go on the trip.  We'd stop at the Miracle (?) Mile and shop and eat, then join the group for the play.  We saw lots of well-known plays - Cats, Woman of the Year, Mickey Rooney and Ann Miller, Camelot, My Fair Lady, more I don't remember.  Mostly musicals.  But it was a fun time for all of us.  Now we're all too old!  And decrepit!

I don't think they have those theater runs any more and I don't know of any travel companies that advertise trips to anywhere!

Many nights I can't get to sleep so after a while, maybe 2 or 3 in the morning, I get up and come to the computer.  I can exhaust my usual computer haunts, but I'll try to do some genealogy.  After an hour or so, I'll go back to bed, sleepy or not.  I do go to sleep within the hour, but sometimes that makes me sleep later in the morning.  Can't win.

Tom has left for lunch with a friend and I think I'll take out the remains of my meal last night at Cheers and eat that.

Hi to everyone on a sunny day in Northwest Florida.  Had my nose stuck in a good book yesterday and didn't check the forums.  Finally caught up reading all the messages.

Marilyne, a bit of trivia——-your state public school system is not on the bottom of the list.  It is #38 out of 51 and Florida is #26 out of 51 (which is better than I thought it would be).  New Mexico was on the bottom as #51 and Massachusetts was #1.  I sure hope you will soon see some rain.

Jenny, I know you were glad it was easy getting all your paperwork done.  We lived in Ocala for 28 years and when we moved here to the panhandle in 2016 I dreaded all those changes.  But it went easily and everyone was so polite and helpful that it was a good experience overall.

Mary Ann, I usually get up a couple of times a night.  Last night I got up and ate a few peanut butter and crackers then went back to bed and asleep.  We eat a late breakfast and a late meal in the afternoon and sometimes I don't eat enough and wake up at night hungry.

Well, I hope everyone has a good day!  I enjoy all your posts and think of everyone.

I hope it is fixed now!
Thanks MaryAnn and Angel for alerting me :)

Mary Ann

Thanks, Bubble, for fixing us up.  I've often said "when Tock can't talk, that's bad" - and I couldn't talk!  Not that I had anything to say.

I was up at 3:30 and found Kendrick asleep in the bathroom beside the vanity drawers.  He did not get into the tub but it wasn't long before he joined me in bed and he stayed nearly an hour.  I have no idea where he is now.

I'll be back later after I go back to bed.

It's nice to be able to say something, even if I have nothing to say!

MarsGal

Good Morning everyone!

It is 42oF now and partly cloudy. We are expecting some sprinkles off and on today, but right now the clouds are not solid and looking pretty in pink and blue as the sun begins to rise.

Mary Ann, I've been keeping a semi-eye on USS Indianapolis. The morning she is still anchored at Quebec Port. Yesterday, there was a small boat that was wandering around it all day. The Marine Traffic tag says Test FUR (Canadian), whatever that is. This morning both are still there along with a Canadian Warship which is docked just behind USS Indianapolis. More joint exercises or seminars?

It is snowing all along the St. Clair as well as at Quebec. I watched Olive Moore going upriver in the dark at Marine City a while ago. Beautiful with the upper lights looking like stars. Yesterday I watched a NOAA cutter come in off the lake. She is moored, at the moment, about where the Pilot boats stay when not chasing down international ships. Hollyhock managed to slip out sometime yesterday (probably before light) and is now somewhere near Sturgeon Bay, WI. on Lake Michigan. Port Huron will be getting real busy a bit later with (I counted) five ships coming in off the lake. Olive Moore arrive at Port Huron about the same time or a little before. She is at St. Clair now.

I had a bison burger and fried for lunch yesterday at our Welsh Society meeting. I think the group is mostly an excuse to eat out. There was a short presentation by one of the members which was mostly memorabilia and news clippings. The National Welsh newspaper was passed around as well as a booklet about William Penn. The National Welsh Festival will be held in Philadelphia next year probably in August. Sue and I might go if we can get a bus or train down. No way will we drive; neither one of us like the traffic these days, especially on the expressways.

MarsGal, I watched the Dorothy Ann with Pathfinder go into Port Huron this morning in the dark.  They're pretty when they have a lot of lights on.  A saltie was going to come from Algonac but I decided to go back to bed so did not see it.  I'll have to look at the Quebec cam to see the USS Indy; I have not been keeping good track of it.  I noticed the snow on the St Clair River, but when I look out my window here, we are all in white too.  The first good snow is always dangerous to drivers.

While it is far away yet, I hope you and Sue can manage to get to the Welsh Society gathering next summer.

I just looked at a few areas around here - Duluth has no snow at the canal, the Soo does have snow and they changed the view.

Marilyne

Good to see everything back to normal, here in B&T!  Thanks Bubble!

I'm missing many of the Great Lakes web-cams that I had saved as clickables on my desktop, and visited most days.   My favorite was Marine City, which has now gone missing again?  At the moment, I only have The Soo, Duluth and Charlevoix.  I don't have anything that works, from Quebec, Port Huron, and others that you all watch on a regular basis.  Guess I'll have to cruise through YouTube and see what I can find?

Mary Ann

https://www.youtube.com/streamtimelive

Marilyn, the above is the site for YouTube and will give you the Port Huron, Marine City and Algonac sites.  It also includes the sea plane site in Alaska.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

Mary Ann, Thanks for that YouTube link. I'll take a look right away, and hope to get back in the swing of watching the various sites.  I've never had the sea plane site in AK, so that will be a new one for me.

Hope all of you Easterners and Midwesterners, are having reasonable weather for Fall?  We are still in our "endless summer" mode, with dry sunny days in the 70's, with very low humidity.  I went to the dermatologist on Monday, and he gave me a small bag, full of cream and lotion samples for dry skin.  Apparently all of his older patients are complaining about the itching and discomfort from extreme dry air.  Other than that, he burned off a number of spots on my face, back and arms, with the liquid nitrogen spray.

Mary Ann

Marilyn, I think our entire state got snow, but it is mostly gone in the lower part.  I saw the Soo was pretty well covered, but it didn't look too deep.  Tom heard "northern Michigan" got three inches.  I don't know if he meant the UP or upper lower peninsula.

I've never had dry skin that I know of, my system seems to be oily, however, I do use a moisturizer.  I have warm hands (cold heart) if that has anything to do with it.

Mary Ann

CallieOK

Good Morning,

Cold, wet and "raw" weather in central Oklahoma today.  Morning local news reported OKC temperature just above freezing with wind chill in the teens.  Brrrr!  Also reported some slick roads farther west but my street looks okay - and I'm not going out to test any others!

My recent boat-watching has mostly been "hit or miss".  Either the cam is being handled by "Otto Matic" (love the pun) or there aren't any ships to show.

Marilyne,  I'll see the dermatologist next week and expect to have some frozen spots on my legs. Would be nice to get some sample lotions/creams for dryness. Maybe I'll remember to mention it.

Miss Ellen reported lots of snow in The Dells, Wisconsin.  Hope that doesn't affect Opening Night tomorrow.  The Palace Theater posted a Facebook video of the opening number dress rehearsal performance.  Miss Ellen wasn't featured but she was "front and center" in the group.  :smitten:

Washer is "yoo-hooing".  Away I go....

Enjoy your day.

Marilyne

CALLIE - I didn't realize that OK, got so cold, this early in the season!  Last Spring, my bedroom humidifier finally stopped working, after years of reliable service.  I haven't replaced it yet, but will have to, if we continue on with this extreme dry weather. I didn't realize Miss Ellen's show, was opening so soon.  I'll see if I can find the Facebook video.  I know you're looking forward to your Christmas vacation in Wisconsin, where you will enjoy the show, and the family!

MARY ANN - I meant to comment on your post about visiting Chicago with your retiree travel group. I also saw many of those same Broadway shows, when they   played in San Francisco at that time.   I remember especially enjoying the Mickey Rooney/Ann Miller show.  I think it was called Sugar Babies? It was different, and fun to see those two, as they were both getting on in years at the time, but still dancing and singing like the troopers they were!

Good morning from the Interior. I slept poorly so I ended up sleeping in this morning. I had gotten to see the folks back from Anchorage last night at dinner and the weather there was, as usual, rainy, wet and lots and lots of wind! The said they believed they did as much as possible to support Anchorage's economy all by themselves during their stay, so they had a good if expensive time! Only nine of the original group made it through the trip.

I see Bubble got us back on track, thanks Bubble!

Besides Yahoo Groups going through an upheaval, YouTube is as well. This will probaby affect the cams in one way or another.

Patricia, how many were in the original group to Anchorage and what happened to those who did not make it through the trip?

My front lawn is clear of snow but my deck still has some on it.  The lawn is on the south side of our building and the deck is on the north.

I sent a message to Michael about our Reply button but I have not heard from him.  He probably checked after Bubble had fixed it so saw no need to comment.

The only thing I use YouTube for is with the ships and I'm not signed into anything.  I hope their changes do not affect them.

I had a nice nap, my usual hour.  Dot would laugh when I would visit them in Florida when I'd take a nap, it would be almost exactly an hour when I came out of the bedroom.  I wish I could go to sleep at night as quickly as I do for a nap.

Marilyne,  Oklahoma isn't usually this cold so soon!  Problem is that one day, it's gorgeous Fall sunshine with temperatures in the 70's and overnight, it turns into drizzly rain with temperatures in the 30's and wind chills in the teens.

Re Facebook video:  try this  (be sure sound is on - yours and the video)

Ellen is the second girl on the left. Hard to see her red hair to follow her - but she's in center front when the couples begin to dance and leads the line of girls to center front and around toward the end.

Have a lot of activity and appointments - and Thanksgiving - to get through before Wisconsin trip.  Just hope the weather cooperates.

Patricia,  I didn't sleep poorly but did sleep in and am having one of my "leisurely" days.
I saw the YouTube notice and hope it doesn't change our viewing of the ships.

I realize web sites have to have funding but I  :tickedoff:  "flashing" ads or ones that I'm required to watch for however many seconds they last.

I've finished the Daily Challenges and met the Daily Goals on all 4 solitaire games on Tablet and am about ready to see if there's left-over soup to have with sliders that are in the fridge.

Mary Ann

Bubble, I hope you see this some day - is there any way you can highlight or bold the line at the bottom of my page regarding Lake Michigan (Grand Haven).  Especially with winter coming up, the lake can get quite interesting and I'm sure most people do not see the link.

Please and thank you.

There were between nineteen to twenty-two original members if you don't count couples as one. The costs and timeframes kept increasing, and more and more dropped out. It is eight hours if you drive and forty-five minutes by air. It would have been better in summer where people could use their cars, bring their pets perhaps, and use one of the campgrounds.

Bubble is the site administrator. Michael is not going to step in unless Bubble cannot fix an issue. He would simply refer items to Bubble.

I generally change into a lounging set or sweats that I can wear anywhere in the building. PJs for inside my apartment, so getting dressed means I'm going somewhere.

These apartments are right around 850 square foot one-bedrooms. There are at the end of each floor, eight studios for those more disabled. On the first floor near the office and maintenance/security office are seven studios for mentally disabled adults who are able to live somewhat independently. This building is not a home with services but senior apartments for those moderately disabled living independently.

Callie, that was a nice video and thanks for posting so we could see Ellen!

Marilyne

Callie - I enjoyed looking at the video of Ellen, dancing in her latest musical production!  I recognized her right away, having seen her in a number of videos you posted from her community theater and college theater days.  Even though this wasn't a clear close-up, I think I could have picked her out, even if you hadn't told me.  (Oh, I almost forgot her split-second appearance in Mrs. Maisel!) :D

Mary Ann - I've looked at Grand Haven off and on today, and it's a lovely sight!  I'll be checking in again tonight to see the lights on the pier.

Patricia - it would have been fun for you to join them on the Anchorage trip, but with the weather so soggy, probably too uncomfortable. Next time, encourage them to plan a trip during the summer, when it's less likely to rain, and the days are long and warm!

CallieOK

Marilyne,  Thanks for taking a look.  I'm amazed at the number of people who could recognize her from previous things I've shared.

Enough Gammy-bragging!

The Marine City webcam seemed to have more ships going through today than either Port Huron or Algonac.  I've about given up on Duluth Harbor.  Don't see as many ships listed at times I could "tune in".

Patricia, the Anchorage group trip sounds as if it was lots of fun - except for the weather. I agree with Marilyne that you should encourage a trip during the sunny warm seasons.

Mary Ann

Callie, there were a lot of ships on the St Clair River today and if they go through Marine City, they have to go through both Port Huron and Algonac, with the exception of when they stop at a city in between to make a delivery.  A while ago, I watched four vessels go through Marine City, all going north.  They might be around Port Huron now but I was looking at other things so I have no tracked them.  At 6:41 Michigan time, it is dark.  I have watched ships go by at night, but some are more interesting than others and I usually get involved in genealogy when it's dark.

I enjoyed  your video of Miss Ellen and her troupe.  I looked at the video before I read  your entire message so did not really know which one she was.

I have moved the cat's bed into this room; he wanders in her often and sometimes lies on the floor.  I realize he is likely to lie on the floor in any room but I am in here most of the time so I thought I'd make it more comfortable for him.

Beverly

I started to write a message yesterday and got sidetracked by a phone call from my son. He doesn't call often but when he does it's a long conversation! Yesterday we talked more than an hour. Then Chape went to play golf and after taking a shower I spent a lot of the afternoon napping. Last night was Triple Play with the monthly card group. We play from 6:00 to 10:30 or 11 so it's a long evening.

No apology needed Mary Ann. I seldom respond to everyone. I don't take notes and my memory isn't always what it might be!  :)  Sometimes I see a comment and have to scroll back to see what was said. Today I clicked on the last page of Bait and Tackle and realized I had missed some posts, so went back to read them. You do a wonderful job keeping this discussion going.

Callie - My introduction to Oklahoma the first year we were there was ice! It was a challenge to stay upright when walking.  :) Then the winter before we moved back east we had 14 inches of snow in March. That's when I found out our small town (Bristow) didn't have snowplows. Most times they weren't needed. The thing I'll always remember about our years in Oklahoma was the people. Some of the nicest and friendliest  I've ever met! We still keep in touch with a few of them.

Have a good night all.

I am still alive and kicking, but not much to report.

Baby Jonah turned 11 months old yesterday....not sure how that many months have already passed.  He is a very active boy, walking all over the place and getting into everything.  He babbles like crazy and seems to be carrying on a full conversation🤣🤣

BEVERLY, a nice long conversation with your son is much more important than pretty much anything!
I have already commented on Miss Ellen's dance after seeing it on Face Book, as you know CALLIE.  I did enjoy watching it again though!

Pleasant dreams to all.

Uh-Oh! Things appear to be amiss with USS Indianapolis this morning. The tugs came and pulled her out into the channel and turned her around, back up river. They are still giving her an assist and the small patrol boat is still off her side. She is now out of site around the bend. Looks like they are pushing her around the bend at the docks further up the river. Didn't look like she had any power. They have a Facebook page, but nothing said about the hang up at Quebec. The Canadian warship remains at dock.

Laundry and cleaning the bathroom are on my agenda for today.

Joy

Good morning on this pretty sunny morning, but it is very cold.  I have the thermostat pushed up until it gets warmer.

I had a rough morning yesterday.  I had some skin cancers removed from my face and I look like I have been in a fight.  Everything went well, but I look terrible and therefore, feel terrible.  Two big bandages and several places where she froze.  I won't be going anywhere for a while.

I did not sleep very well, so since I do not plan on going anywhere, I am thinking about going back to bed.

I did not even get on the computer yesterday, at all.  I did not go back and read any of the previous posts.  Just hope everyone is doing well, and keeping warm, if you are in those colder areas. They are calling for some snow early next week. Not looking forward to that.

I just wanted to mark my place and I will try to write more the next time.

Have a great day.

Beverly, thanks for thinking I keep this folder going, actually, it is all of us who keep things going.  Fortunately, we all talk a lot so we have much to read.  I find that someone will mention something and that will trigger a thought in my mind - and I'm off to tell about it.  I seem to have this urge for detail and it used to drive Norm crazy.  Half way through my "story", he'd say "what's the point?" and that would spoil it.  I don't think I have any remembrance this morning, just trying to justify my place in Norm's B&T.  I don't take notes, either, but I do scroll down.  Even so, I miss things.

Beverly, you're right, conversation with your son comes first.  In my case, it would be family, but I know what you mean.  Also people come before the computer or TV.  When I was driving and had a passenger, the radio was always off.  Otherwise, when I was alone, the radio was on.

Joy, I can sympathize with you on the removal of the skin cancers, only I had only one a month ago.  It was on the side of my nose down at the bottom.  I don't think he used the Moh's system because of its location and I know he burnt something because I could smell skin burning.  I only had to have a small oval patch on my nose and it is hardly visible now.  In 15 years, I've had three skin cancers, about five years apart.  I don't know if that's excessive or normal but they want me to have a body check in January.  At my age, I don't now if I want more removals or not, probably depending on how far along it would be.  Cross that bridge when I get to it.

MarsGal, when I finish here, I'll check the Quebec port, even if the USS Indy is not there.  You posted two hours ago so I am not likely to find things the same as you did.

Jenny, from what I've heard, Jonah is walking a bit sooner than many babies.  The story was I started walking at nine months, then discovered it was easier to crawl, did that until I was about a year old, then walked all over the place.  Now, at the other end of my life I find it hard to walk, but I'd find it harder to crawl!!!

Now I'd better quit so I can leave room for others.  Blabbermouth!

Mary Ann

Marilyne

Mary Ann - like you, I get started writing a short message here, and before I know it, it has morphed into a long "book"!  (Your apt description of a post that goes on and on!) ha ha!   I wasn't a member of the old original B&T, or the Michigan folder in Senior Net, so I never saw any messages from Norm.  Did he tend to get right to the point, and stick with short posts?

Jackie - I just noticed your message in the folder, where you are commenting on the fact that old members, who have long ago dropped out of S&F, will always come back to say a fond goodbye to one of our members who has recently passed away.  I always wonder the same as you . . . why did that person drop out and never return?    I also have Facebook, and I enjoy it very much, but it doesn't compare to S&F or the old Senior Net. It's a different type of communication. On FB, you mostly interact with people you already know, like cousins, sisters, adult children, old friends from the past, etc.

Joy - Good to see you checking in.  I hope all of the "frozen" spots on your face are not giving you too much trouble.  I also went to the dermatologist this week, and I was pleasantly surprised that he didn't burn off as many things on my face as he usually does.  I only have one on my cheek, that is visible and angry looking.  The others are mostly around my hairline and forehead, so they don't show.  I have bangs, so they cover most of the damage!

Jenny - hard to believe that Jonah is walking already! Nothing like a new baby, to make you realize how quickly time passes!   You haven't mentioned Michele in recent messages, so I hope that means that she is getting through her radiation treatments without too much discomfort?  They are usually easier to endure, compared to chemotherapy.  The last few weeks are very exhausting, but not as bad a chemo.

Beverly - It's been a long time since I've had a one-on-one conversation with my son.  In the past, we talked a lot together, but now he and Jackie are so busy with so many activities, that we have no opportunities for a personal conversation.  Also, I didn't know you played golf with Chape?  I used to love it when I was younger, but haven't played in at least 20 years.  My favorite thing, was going to the driving range and hitting a bucket of balls!

Good morning from the Interior! We're a little warmer, but the snow is no longer going anywhere! The rivers, as usual in this new style, remain unfrozen, and there are still ducks and geese swimming along.

Anchorage and much of the S.E. land is below sea level, built on a narrow strip of land, lying on gravel and silt, and running just over the San Andreas Fault; between the mountains and gulf or seawater.

It's all part of the same geothermal geographical area as parts of British Columbia, Washington, and Oregon. The weather is always cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter than the Interior. Unfortunately, the typical high winds and rain are worse in spring and fall.

For me, a summer trip would be more comfortable without the needed plane trips back and forth and pet care required. A friend has a portable catio that we could have used if we were able to drive and to camp out. That was the main reason, the costs that so many didn't go.

I have to say, I love long posts. It's nice when anyone does, but longer is nice for me. To me, the reason many leave is FB and family are more where people tend to be as they get older. And S&F is no longer as inclusive as it used to be.
