Mars -  Good for you . . .  you're doing great so far!  Sorry you have to do so much by yourself, but I can understand why Sue has to limit lifting and bending for a while yet.  If I lived close,  I'd love to help with the packing. Unfortunately, I'm thousands of miles away.  (Will have to look that up and see exactly how many?)  Oscar and Shan must be getting nervous!

Mary Page -  Glad to see someone else in S&F watched "Barbie", besides me.  As you said, the prize winning  moves aren't at all the same now, as they were in days of old.    I don't  think  the young adults of today, would sit still for the likes of Bette Davis,  K. Hepburn, or Vivien Leigh.  They do seem to like LONG movies.  There is one that's up for an Academy Award this year, that is over three hours long . . . "Killers of the Flower Moon".  Fortunately, when we rent movies now, we can watch them in segments if we wish.

Joanne -  Yes, the 49ers came out winners this time around!  What a difference a good quarterback makes!    Our local news is now loaded with personal stories, and lots of information as to how to get tickets for the BIG game, and flights to Las Vegas.  Most fans will likely drive from this area.

Yes, you can stop and save any movie you rent from Amazon Prime, Netflix and all the others.  You usually have 48 hours rent time, so the long ones can easily be spread out over the full time period, if you wish.

Gee, Marilyne, I didn't know that.  Thanks.  I may decide to Rent Killers of the Flower Moon, and/or Oppenheimer.

I saw something on AOL News today, that tickets to the SuperBowl might cost up to $25,000.

One of those warm "Pineapple Express" storms arrived here in Northern California yesterday.  Not as wild and destructive as what we had last year, so that was a relief.  We did get almost an inch of rain, which is good, and always needed.    Another storm  is coming tomorrow or Saturday, that's predicted to be much heavier, so we shall see what that one brings?

Joanne/Tome - No new movies yet this week. Hockey has been on every night here.  I used to sit and watch some of the Sharks games, but the poor team has been getting worse instead of better over the past couple of years.  It's kind of sad to see them lose another game, but AJ has remained loyal and has high hopes - saying this team is mostly young new players, and will eventually "mature".  Not sure we will still be around when that finally happens! ha ha. ::)

It's been a week since we've heard from Jenny?    Hope she'll check in today and let us know how she's doing?

Mars -  Today is February First, so you have six days to get everything packed up and ready to move?  You sound very well organized, so I'm sure things will fall in place for you.  I'm looking forward to hearing about how Oscar and Shan react, when they arrive in their new home! 🤔

Mary Page - Hope you check in with us today?  I'm still confused/puzzled  by the "New S&F", and can't seem to figure out how to scroll back far enough here in B&T, to see your last message so I can respond to it?  Anyway, hoping we hear from you today also?

Same problem with Jackie and Callie.  My ability to see previous messages is very limited, or I would comment.
Just hope everyone who posted here before, will return?

Tomereader1

Just beneath the message you just posted, to your left, you'll see a little square that says "go up", then Pages, and it will show Page Numbers, and you should be able to click on previous numbers to check older messages.  I hope this works for you, and anyone else who needs to "go back" and read older posts.

Sue and I took some stuff over to the apartment today and then went to the local Chinese buffet for lunch. This afternoon, after recuperating from lunch I have been updating accounts. Tomorrow I am taking more stuff over and semi-organizing what is already there. Then it will be back to packing more stuff or at least removing all the stuff from the furniture that the movers will take over on Tuesday. Once I actually have my shelves over at the apartment, I can bring over what is left that I can stuff into the apartment. The Comcast guy will be over in the afternoon after the movers to hook up my cable, etc. It looks like I will not have to get a new phone number. Yea!

Looks like there is only one ship on all of the Great Lakes just now. It is heading to Milwaukee.

Shan and Oscar are getting a little more than suspicious and both have decided it will be fun to know small items of shelves and desktops. I plan on taking them with me on moving day and will stash them in the bathroom until the movers have gone.

Hopefully, Jenny is okay and just busy.

Marilyne

Mars - Sounds like smooth sailing so far.  You're very well organized and I'm sure all the last minute things will fall in place.   Good idea to put Oscar and Shan in the bathroom during the actual move.
If they aren't in cat-carriers,  put a sign on the door to alert the movers that they are in there!

Tome -  I have all, (or most), of my site problems under control.  My Apple computer has a slightly different look, or set-up than a PC.  The same exact content, but in a different  place - so I had to relearn some aspects of the site layout.

I still haven't rented either of the movies I was hoping to watch. Now we'll have to wait until the latest storm is over.  It was supposed to be gentle and mild, but now the meteorologists are saying that it will be a "Blockbuster"!   They love to use that term.  ::)  :coolsmiley:   Anyway, starting sometime tonight and lasting until Sunday night, we can expect to lose power.  So best not to rent a movie until everything calms down.  I hope they're overreacting on the severity of the storm, but it remains to be seen?

Had a little episode with the hospital; I think that was Monday night.  Daughter Anne. our retired family nurse,  advised Chip call an ambulance, so he did.  My problem was Metamucil involved, so I was compos mentis. (Spellcheck does not like that, but phooey on them) so I asked and learned a lot.  I thought ambulances were hospital owned, but not here in Maryland!  They are associated with the Fire Departments here.  They came without sirens, but with twinkling lights, as it was the middle of the night.  Long and short, everyone was nicer than nice, the gal with my bunch loves her job, they take paramedic courses to qualify and from those and their insanely numerous trips, are excellent at reassurance and advice.

It has been a rough week, bur, except for a still very sore throat, I am fine.  Have slept a lot and caught up on a Lot of Public TV show.  I especially love Seaside Hotel and Doc Martin.  Life is good, and my children take great care of me.

MaryPage

How do I fix errors now, such as changing bur to but?

Same as before, but "Quick Edit" is at the top now. You can still edit it the compose box.

Thank you, kind Sir. but I am still not seeing it.  I'll try later; now I require a little bit of a nap.

I am again in your debt, but have to admit I am going slowly, slowly blind and there is nothing that can be done about it, and honestly, if that word is compose, I cannot see it.  The type is too small for such as I.  Sorry.

It is Pellucid Marginal Degeneration, and I have little magnifying glasses with handles on them in every room; sometimes two or more to a room so as to be able to put my hands on one pair at any given moment.  I will ask one of my kids (in their seventies, so maybe I should make that granddaughters or great grands) to help me figure out how to edit all over again.

Just on top of the text you wrote, to the right, you have a hand saying "like", the next is for "quote" and the 3rd icon  of a square with a pencil is for "quick edit".

Mary Page  -  don't worry about correcting those small typo errors in a post.   If you're like me, you want your post to be "perfect" as to spelling, sentence structure and no typos!   Not possible for me either,  as I also can't see well enough anymore, so can't correct all those little annoying things.  I don't think anyone really cares?   ::)

Hoping you're feeling better every day, since your unexpected ambulance ride?   Lucky you,  having a retired nurse in the family that you can consult with on health matters!    I've often said that I wish we had a doctor, a lawyer, and a nurse in the immediate family, that we could contact for advice when needed . . .  but we have none of three.  (yet anyway)

Tomereader1

Hey, Marilyne.  Has the big storm hit your area yet? Are you and AJ okay?  I read where terribly high winds are expected closer to your area, while the rains and water are inundating the LA area.

Let me know if you both are all right, and if you've lost power yet.

Joanne

RAMMEL

Tome, --- According to the weather site it looks like they got hit. Lots of rain anyway.

Tome -  Yes, we just finished dealing with another of those Atmospheric Rivers, where the wind blows with hurricane force, and the rain falls non stop for days.   We lost our power for close to 24 hours.  Going without the furnace is the most difficult . . . that, and losing much of the food in the fridge.   According to a list in the paper of the strongest winds recorded, we were up near the top, at 87 miles per hour.  The higher up in the Santa Cruz mountains, the stronger the winds, hitting 100 MPH in some areas.
So much damage everywhere to clean up -  mainly trees that blow over onto houses, cars and unfortunately onto people as well.  A very large sized Olive tree in our neighbors back yard, is now in our back yard.  :o   I could go on and on, but will spare you any more details.

MarsGal - You're probably in the midst of your final move right now?   It's the 6th, which I believe was moving day?   Hoping everything  runs  smoothly, and you will be spending tonight in your new home.   Looking forward to hearing about everything, and that  Oscar and Shan did okay?

Mary Page - Hoping we hear from you today, that you are feeling well, and recovered from your recent trip to the hospital?   Also I've been wondering about Chip, and how he is doing since he was hospitalized last month?

phyllis

Glad you are OK, Marilyne.  Better that the olive tree fell in your backyard than on your house.  Take it slow and easy with clean-up.

Phyllis - Thanks for responding.   That  was a wild night here, but things are calmed down now.  Supposed to be another storm today, but much lighter.  Our two daughters, who both live in the San Jose/Willow Glen area, didn't get their power back until last night at midnight!  So it was out for two and half days.    I've been trying to remember what area  you lived in, here in Northern California?

phyllis

We lived in Culver City.  Tom worked out of the Santa Monica office but his biggest customer was in Downtown Los Angeles.  (That was back in 1957.)  However, my older brother lived in Palo Alto and worked for Hewlett Packard so I am familiar with your area a little.

The most important thing is that we are still
communicating with one  another ...
spelling errors be damned.

I don't post as much as I used to or as much
as I should.  I go in spells  where I  post a lot or post
a little..

All is well here on the rocky coast of Maine.
Still cold but that is normal for February.

Hi EVERYONE!

MarsGal

Morning Sandy, nice to see your post. I am just in briefly before I go check on some things before heading out to the house again and the tax office to make the address change and say goodbye to my tax collector who is also involved in the branch library.

More help is on the way gang. My contractor will move the rest of my heavy stuff (mostly more books, files and kitchen stuff), (probably next week), after which, his guys will clear out the rest for the dumpster or whatever. Great guys!

The cats are getting rambunctious. First of all, I think the dim light that filters in from the street activates them more at night. Plus, Shan has discovered how much fun it is to toss his toys around on the vinyl-wood floors. This comes with various squeaks and meows as he tosses and chases. Both he and Oscar seem to think it is also fun to knock light stuff off furniture they can jump up on, leaving me to find new spots less accessible to them, which also means harder to easily reach for me.

Morning cup of tea is now empty. Time to start gathering my wits and what not for the day ahead.

Marilyne

Mars . . . I've been thinking about you t he past couple of days, and hoping everything was running smoothly for you.   Sounds like all is okay, with just a few loose ends to clear up?   the cats seem to be adjusting fairly well . . . maybe will be a little bit hyper for a few days, but they will eventually get used to everything on their own time.  I've forgotten how old they are?   I only  that you rescued Shan from an abandoned litter of kittens,  somewhere near your house?

Sandy . . . Good to see you here today!  I wish you would come in more often, and tell us more about what's going on in your life?   Not many of us left in S&F, but we'd like to keep the site going for as long as we're still here.

Phyllis . . . I was thinking that Tom worked for IBM here in SanJose, but glad you got up here a few times to visit your brother in Palo Alto. I remember those early days, when Hewlett Packard, IBM and General Electric, were The Big Three,  here in the Santa Clara Valley, long before it became Silicon Valley.

Denver

I am back....just had to get in here to tell you all about my day.

Everything went good at my 4 week post-op appointment.  My surgeon said the X-rays look great and I am way ahead in healing.  The bone grafts have already started growing together in my cervical spine.  So very happy.

Now comes the not so good news.  The new soft brace they tell you is next to wear is awful‼️ The medium size they tried first would not fit in any way... so the small size is much better but the velcro strap is too short.  We have been all over trying to find some Velcro to try to extend it. We finally got some and Bob is hoping it will work.  This so called "soft collar" is stiff as a board and very confining!  Shame on them for teasing me calling it SOFT‼️

My shoulders continue to be the biggest issue.  I have PT two times a week and then it takes a couple of days before I can move them.  Typing has been nearly impossible at times, so again I apologize for not posting more often.  I will be better soon‼️

Oh my.....sad to see that no one has posted since my last post‼️

A good Superbowl Sunday to all.

That being said we decided after all the good report from my surgeon that we would go ahead with our tentative plans to take a flight to our son and DIL's in San Francisco.  Everything went smoothly getting here and they are doing everything to make me comfortable.  We are so excited to be here with them for the game today and Valentine's Day.

Have a wonderful day. GO 49'ers 🏈🏈🏈🏈

Marilyne

Hello everyone!  Hope you're all enjoying what has come to be known as  Super Bowl Sunday!   Especially exciting this year because the 49er's are playing.  I'm not a football fan, but I can't help being caught up in the excitement this year.  People are so happy and full of hope and good cheer, that it's uplifting!  So many sad and terrible things going on in the World, that it's nice to have something as simple as a ball game, to give people something to be happy about.   Also, it's a nice sunny day, after a week of storms and destruction, so that adds an extra reason to celebrate . . .win or lose!

Jenny - Good to see you're here in the Bay Area to visit your son and wife, and of course - The Doodle!  San Francisco is a great place to be this weekend!  I hope the weather holds, so you can get out and around during the week.  Probably a good time to drive across the GG Bridge, or take the ferry to Oakland.  I'm glad that you're feeling so much better, and hope it's the start of a steady improvement!

MaryPage

Sorry to hear we are few left.
I chose to come back only to Norm's old place because he was so great with all of us.  I lack the strength or stamina, or, for that matter, the brainwork to do more, these days.  I think my body is ready to cave and just sleep 24/7; but I'm fighting that.  Lest I fail to say so, I love you each and every one!

CallieOK

it's nice to have something as simple as a ball game, to give people something to be happy about.
...and whether Taylor Swift will get there in time to watch her Quarterback boyfriend play!

MaryPage, I'm a bit younger than you but I understand your wanting to sleep 24/7!  Our weather had been so gloomy and cold that I :sleepy: every time I get in the recliner.  Hasn't helped that my "squeaks and creaks" have been more painful.  :nopity:

Jenny, I'm delighted to learn that you were able to go to CA!!!

No news from central Oklahoma.

Wishing Everyone a Happy Valentine's Day  :hugs:
