Angel, as best  I understand it, the inverter doe not cycle on and off like a regular microwave; it stays on all the time. Things cook more evenly and faster and supposedly you can bake cakes in the thing (I haven't tried that yet). Since I didn't get a recipe book with my microwave, I had to go hunting the net to see what was available. I did find one by Mr Food called Quick and Easy Inverter Microwave Cookbook, but I actually forgot I had it. Panasonic's manual, as far as I am concerned, leaves a lot to be desired. So I have been more or less guestimating times and power levels by starting off with the wonderful Kenmore manual I kept and reducing times and/or power levels. Once I overcooked some chicken breasts and a homemade meat loaf, I think I have a sense of it now. Hopefully they have improved their manual and you get a recipe booklet with yours.

I can't find the Panasonic page that I saw a year or so ago,describing how it works; but their recipes are still up on the site. http://www.panasonic.com/consumer/microwave/recipes/recipesGroups.asp  You can printout the individual recipes, but is probably the same thing, in booklet form that you can download http://www.panasonic.com/consumer/microwave/recipes/recipesGroups.asp YouTube has some videos on the inverter oven.

Hi everyone. This will be another hot day getting up in the area of 93 degrees with a chance of rain.  We were under another severe thunderstorm warning for two or three hours last evening but still not a drop of rain.  Our main activity today is to go to our planned dinner at the Chop House.  We will eat around 2 pm as Scott has to get back and get ready for work later this afternoon.  Later this morning I plan on taking a package to the UPS drop off place as have an order we need to return to Amazon.  I awoke at 4 am this morning and couldn't go back to sleep for got up at six.  I will try to rest for a couple of hours later this morning before we go to dinner. 

Mary Ann, just your kind thoughts are more than enough.  I certainly never expected to see 55 years of marriage but have set a new goal of 60 years or beyond.  Natures watering sure beats our humble attempts.  I fear I am going to have to turn my sprinkler system back on to water on Monday.  I do have a small piece of sod that the builder put in my back yard a few weeks ago to cover a revealed sprinkler line and so I did water it yesterday and probably will do so again today as sure don't want it to die.

Marilyne, the European trip for your son and dil and then the extended trip of your two grand-kids sounds like a great summer experience.  How old are the grand-kids and have they been to Europe before? Glad you are going to be able to text with your computer so you can better follow your grandchildren's journey.  Thanks for the Anniversary wish and we are actually celebrating this afternoon since it didn't work out on Wednesday.  I see you have already reached that 60 year mark which is certainly an achievement. 

Joan, inside is a good place to stay when it is so hot.  I think you mentioned a day or so ago of getting your hair done.  Is there a shop in your building? 

Patricia, it sounds like if you wait a bit you will get the type of weather you want, whether warm or cold or wet or dry.  That reminds me of Missouri, where I grew up, as in one day we could have several kinds of weather and the forecasting wasn't what it is today. Interesting how your streets are laid out.  In Georgia, and I expect here in South Carolina, the streets can go any direction and often have different names for different parts of the street.  It is nice to see you so enjoy Farrah and observing her behavioral development over the months.  We have a small toaster oven we have had for many years.  We have talked about replacing it but it still works fine and doesn't take up much counter space. It sounds like you will be all set with the microwave to heat up those servings of foods you have already made and frozen.  When we moved here we had some empty cupboards since we got rid of a lot of things but they seem to be getting filled up again, except for the back parts of the lower shelves. 

MarsGal, it seem most instruction manuals leave a lot to be desired or they are so long and detailed they are difficult to use.  I had no idea what and Inverter Microwave did so appreciate the description. Please send some of your rain down South for us.   

Larry, it is about 70 degrees here and I think the forecast is for 79 degrees.  That should make the day quite comfortable.  The rest of the week will be in the mid 80s. 

I've showered and washed my hair so I'm back at the keyboard of the computer.  I only have S&F to go through of my regular routine.  Tom is fixing scrambled eggs and I'm waiting for those.  Afterward I'll figure the next step in working on my Trust.  I know what I want to do, but I can't print from this computer and that is part of my dilemma.  I don't feel I want to buy a new printer when my present one is very workable, just not with this computer.  So I'll copy things to a flash drive, then to another computer so I can print.  Silly, but that's the way the ball bounces.

While typing the above paragraph, Tom brought me breakfast and I ate that so now I'm back in business.

Mary Ann - Scrambled eggs sound good.  I should have fixed myself some, but was lazy, and just ate a bowl of Quaker Puffed Rice . . . very bland and easy on the stomach.  I always wake up first in the morning, make coffee, and have two cups before AJ gets up.  We each make our own breakfast, and he finishes off the pot of coffee.  So goes our exciting life.

Larry - I'm sure you'll have a nice meal at the Chop House. What kind of chops are featured there?  I know that I'd order lamb chops if they were on the menu.  We had them quite often during my childhood and teens.  My mom used to broil them, and they were so tender and delicious.  I've never been able to prepare them like she did - probably because I've always had electric ovens, not gas.  It takes a gas oven/broiler, to fix perfect chops or steaks.

Today I'm going to try to re-introduce Winnie and Cocoa, and see how it goes. They don't have to like each other, but it would make life so much easier if they would just tolerate each other.  Only two days so far, and I'm already tired of going up and down the stairs to the basement.  We still have almost two full weeks to go!

Good afternoon on  a sunny bright day. rain all day yesterday

Marilyne, I have always like lamb chops, my husband did too.  but not our sons didn't.  when i was a kid, we had a leg of lamb and mashed potatoes  and peas.at lest once a month on Sunday.  Now you have  to  take a loan out to buy and American leg of lamb.

Marilyn, I've had electric ranges since 1955 and have always been pleased with the results of my cooking.  I will say that I did not do the amount of cooking you or anyone else has done because I did not have a family.  I can cook if I have to, but I am not fond of cooking and Tom has taken over since he's been with me.

Tom adds colored peppers, grated cheese, sometimes ham chunks or sausage pieces to his scrambled eggs.  Very colorful and tasty.

I understood Kendrick spent the first five months of his life with other cats and dogs but he hasn't seen a dog since, nor a cat for that matter, and he's nearly four years old (July 17).  I wonder how he'd react.  Annie cannot take him where she lives because the man she lives with is very allergic to cats; they have two Pitbulls and I'm happy I don't spend much time there.  I love dogs, but I am particular as to the kind I want to associate with.  These dogs are friendly as long as you don't cross them!

I hope Winnie and Cocoa are able to tolerate each other.  Maybe as long as they are not at each others throats, you can let them be together, or far apart, in the same room.

Larry, I did go Wed. to get my hair cut but go in the morning before the heat of the day hits us.

Good morning from another lazy, hazy, day in the Interior! Temperatures remain the same. Highs in the low to mid-eighties lows in the early seventies and bracketed by evening and early morning showers. The wind during these showers is nauseating. I can see from my balcony, not the tops, but the upper level of these birch trees. When the wind gets going, the trees sway to the left, then backward, to the right and then to the front and back to the left again in a fast rotation. If you stare long enough you will become dizzy, guaranteed.

Farrah has discovered her powers. She used to enjoy getting her head knuckled. Now she comes up to me and taps the nearest body part. Once she has my attention and a verbal reply, she heavily flops to her side, anticipating her new favorite of the hand rub down. Place your thumb on one side and your fingers on the other side of your cat's body and rub firmly, but not too firmly in the direction of the hair's growth. You don't want to rub the hair the wrong way and I'm sure dogs would appreciate this as well.

I have been watching a British cat behavioral channel on Youtube where the family has two Bengals and what is called a Moggie there and a "mixed or mutt" here. That's where I discovered the art of pet massage and it definitely works on Farrah. They also have very good safe and sane cat discipline ideas.The Bengals are very verbal and Farrah comes up on the table to investigate. But she doesn't equate the monitor with the sounds so goes to look elsewhere. Now, Sarah used to love sitting on my lap and watching animal shows, Farrah has never quite gotten the idea.

I also subscribe to a site that allows you to save interesting articles for later, called Pocket Hits. One of the articles had an interesting idea about how to discipline. They found these not only work on children but also adults. You are not just talking about personal consequences but mentioning the result of the child or adult's behavior resulting in consequences to others. Here is a quote detailing how this came to light.  "When the Oliners examined the guidance of the Holocaust rescuers’ parents, they found that they tended to give “explanations of why behaviors are inappropriate, often with reference to their consequences for others.” While the bystanders’ parents focused on enforcing compliance with the rules for their own sake, the rescuers’ parents encouraged their children to consider the impact of their actions on others.

My toaster slash convection oven is quite large, three times the size of a standard toaster oven and with the microwave, my kitchen bar will be quite full.I have already Googled for instruction books and recipes for the toaster oven and will probably now look for the inverter.

I think I have already mentioned that I throw most small amounts of leftovers into my scrambled eggs. I will sometimes add the eggs to a rice bowl to make a full meal. I freeze parts of mixed, (red, orange, yellow and green); sweet peppers and also separately banana pepper so I can add them either to egg or other dishes. I also have various homemade spice mixes and butter and spice mixes I have made. But that's me. I like to charge things up. And I also like to purchase local spiced and pickled items. It isn't as expensive as I purchase in small amounts for just one person.

MaryAnn, a friend has two pets. One is a humongous 8-year-old male Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Milo and a tuxedoed male cat named Spider. Spider is about a fourth of the size and weight of Milo, yet he rules the roost. That dog is very friendly and loves people and kids but his size throws them off. The cat rules the roost and will even make the dog back off from his food if Spider wants it.

Larry, I hope you enjoyed your anniversary meal with family and the rest of your day!

There are times when I rule the roost and times I let Kendrick think he rules it.  I know the saying is that a cat owns you and that is true, but with my inability to get down on the floor and the fact I may not want to socialize with Kendrick when he wants to socialize, he has learned that if he wants something, he must adjust to my schedule.  For instance, he loves to be scratched and sometimes I will go into the living room and sit by a pad on the davenport.  He knows if he jumps up on the pad, I will scratch him.  He seems to like being scratched in both directions.  I try to accommodate him by rubbing him on his stomach.  When I go to the mailbox, I sometimes let him out on the deck so he won't try to get out the front door.  Very occasionally, I will let him out the front door when I go to the mailbox and if he won't come in when I return, I get the fly swatter.  I don't think I have ever swatted him, but he knows it means business and he runs into the house.  I do try to accommodate him at times because he has so little playing with anyone or anything.  He's a good kitty and I tell him so.  He also is a pretty kitty and I tell him that too.  The things we do for our pets!

Being Saturday, Grand Haven is busy, but mostly boats.  The trees prevent me from seeing much of the beach and I cannot see people in the water which makes me wonder if there is an "undertow" advice, or rip current.  The water and air are near the same temperatures.

Mary Ann - I'm in agreement with you, when it comes to Pit Bulls.  Owners rave about how sweet and kind their particular dog is, but any veterinarian will tell you that Pit's are unpredictable, and are especially dangerous around babies and small children.  We've had a number of tragedies here in the SF Bay Area, of the dogs suddenly turning on and killing a child who is a known member of the family.  They also will fight with other dogs, and will quickly dispose of a anything smaller than they are.   There are so many other breeds of dogs out there who are gentle and who genuinely love everyone.  I've never understood why people want to take the chance with a Pit Bull?   Okay, off my soapbox.

Patricia - I love that Erma Bombeck quote - “Guilt is the gift that keeps on giving.” How true, how true!  I used to have a book of Erma's quotes, but haven't seen it in a number of years.  I probably loaned it to someone?  No problem however,  I'm sure they're now all available online.

It's 2:00 pm right now, and my outdoor thermometer reads 101 degrees.  The temps usually reach a peak between three and four O'clock, so still a few hours to go.  Tomorrow it's supposed to cool into the 80's. 

Marylin, want a fun loving dog, get a boxer.  They may lick you death, but don't think biting ever enters their mind.  I have owned three of them, only problem, play rough with kids and then look bewildered when they cry.

Hi everyone. We did get a brief shower yesterday in the late afternoon, which was most welcome.  It is to be a few degrees cooler today only getting into the low 90's.  We will be going to Sunday School, Church and then out to lunch at Ruby Tuesday's, where we have a coupon for a free burger because of Pat's birthday. 

We did have a good time yesterday at the Chop House.  I enjoyed a nice salad, crab cake, baked potato and mac and cheese.  Pat had a nice steak salad and broccoli and Scott and Jennifer had nice meals, although the pork chops Scott ordered had been overcooked and were dry.  Before we went Scott helped Pat re-pot a couple of plants that had outgrown their containers into two ceramic containers we had and she is going to leave them out on the back porch for awhile. 

Thank you all for the special Anniversary wishes and the birthday greetings for Pat.  Today is the actual day and she is now the same age as I am although I am about 4 1/2 months older than she is.

Marilyne, growing up we often had puffed rice serial.  My dad's favorite was always shredded wheat, which looked like little bales of hay and I thought tasted hay.  My favorite was Cheerios.  However, I seldom eat cereal anymore other than have Cheerios dry once in a while as an afternoon snack.  I also make my own breakfast and lunch, something I have done for years.   interestingly enough the only chops on the menu that I saw were the pork chops and yesterday they apparently were not the best as I mentioned above.  We get some delicious pork chops from Costco and Pat usually cuts them into two and thinner pieces.  I hope for your sake that Winnie and Cocoa can get along.  If nothing else maybe Winnie will find refuge under a piece of furniture that Cocoa cannot reach.

deAngel, I think I have only had lamb chops once in my life and didn't particularly care for them.  In the Midwest I never saw lamb in the meat case and don't see it here either. 

Mary Ann, it is nice that Tom has taken over the cooking for you two.  It sounds like Tom makes his scrambled eggs in about the same way that Pat likes hers although she likes cut up green onion in hers as well. 

Joan, I try to get my running around done in the mornings.  Yesterday when we got in the car following our meal at the restaurant it was registering over 100 degrees. 

Patricia, at least your weather seems to be steadily the same so you know about what to expect.  I have never heard of the site called Pocket Hits on the Internet.  Pat uses Pinerest all the time and does Jennifer.  Interesting information on parenting. 

There is no way I would have a pit bull as a pet as people have had too many bad experiences with them.  The dog that Jennifer got about 3 months ago is part pit bull and part Dachshunds and I hope it gets it temperament from the Dachshund.   

Hal, I have never been around a boxer dog.  We always had rat terriers on the farm and then ended up with a poodle for the kids. 

Good morning, I am really early.  Nice sunny day, with low humidity.
Larry, when we move to Charleston, my mother could not buy any lamb.I do not think southerns went for it.  I fix dinner for my in laws one time when they were visiting.  Grandad said, this meat is good, Cyriel said, Dad you are eating lamb.With that he pushed his plate away and said I do not eat mutton.  My poor mother in law was embarrassed. They were from Ala.

We have always been lovers of dogs.  We had fox terriers, dachshund, Afghan and our big love was our last dog Tiny, a great dane, we had her 12 years, till her legs gave out.  When we got her the vet. said why did you buy a Dane, as they do not live beyond 7 years. I said my son wanted her. As I just wrote we had her 12 wonderful years.  when anyone set on the couch, she would back up and set with you, with her front feet still on the floor.

Larry, Tom does put onion in his scrambled eggs, however, not green ones because we never think to buy them.  We usually do have onions on hand as both of us like them.  I like green onion and when I was doing the buying, I would get some once in a while and I would put them in a salad.

Our dog was a Heinz variety and we had her for about 10 years.  We got her when Norm was about 10 years old and she was barely weaned.  Dad and Norm went to the pound to get her and she was a ball of fuzz, hence her name, Fuzzy.  Fuzzy threw up in the back seat of the car on the way home.  Mother had specified the dog be female, short hair, housebroken, spayed.  The only place she qualified was she was female.  Otherwise she had long black hair, certainly not housebroken at 6-8 weeks, also not spayed.  But we all loved her anyway, even Mother.

We have not had a dog since because my mother died that fall and the dog lasted 10 years.  Dad and I were working with no one home to take care of the dog, so after she died, we did not get another dog, although Norm had a St Bernard and two doxies after he was married the first time.  As we can't have dogs here in our condo complex, we have a cat because Annie wanted a cat.  She was living here at the time and I said "yes"; she moved out with the cat, but the cat returned here without Annie.  I think we're all happy with the arrangement now.

Dot and I did our usual - church and OTB.  Tuna melt and cream pie, both split between us.

Gloria de - I remember you mentioning your Great Dane, and how he used to “sit” on the couch next to you. I’d love to see a picture of him sitting there with you, but you probably don't have one?  Back then, it was rare to have a good picture taken inside the house, unless you were prepared with a camera and a flash bulb!  Remember those flash bulbs, and how you couldn't see for a few seconds after they flashed.

We had a Cocker Spaniel, when I was growing up, named Sunny.  He was a beautiful red color - the same as an Irish Setter.  How I loved that sweet dog!  He lived for about 12 years, and after that, my parents never got another dog.  However, they did have a cat, when they were much older. 

We've had two Springer Spaniels.  The first one was liver(brown) and white, and the second one was black and white. I get very attached to my dogs, and it takes me a long time to get over it, when they pass on.  When our older daughter got divorced, we agreed to "adopt"  her dog, Thumper.  She was a sweet Cock-a-Poo, and she was our last dog.  We've had about seven cats, over the 60 years that we've been married.

What the browser "Save to Pocket button" does is save what you are reading on your computer to your pocket list. This way if you are interested in an article but do not have the time or inclination to read it then, you can save it until later. I got curious about the Tanana River, Angel, and found this interesting picture. I always forget the Fairbanks is not close to the coast.

Hah! It looks like Fairbanks is not much farther, as the crow flies, from Dawson City that it is to Anchorage. My current read is set in Dawson.

MarsGal, Actually part of the Tanana River goes through parts of Fairbanks. But that is a village in the photo. I expect some of the undersides of sidewalk passes and similar areas are flooded but with five local rivers, it is a summer expectation. Fairbanks is an eight-hour driving trip from Anchorage over foothills in the Alaska Range. The driving distance between Dawson City Canada and Fairbanks is 902 miles. Yet the opposite, Fairbanks to Dawson is 389 miles! What gives?

Hi everyone.  We are to have an overcast day with the temperatures around 90 degrees and a 50% change of rain later this afternoon.  The only thing I have planned to do today is a quick trip to Costco to fill the car with gas and to buy two or three items in the store.

deAngel, it sounds like your Granddad knew his own mind when it came to eating lamb.  Isn't it interesting how we often become embarrassed by someone else's action when we have no responsibility for them. 

Mary Ann, Pat prefers the fresh green onions although we have some regular onion with colored peppers in the freezer.  We have been enjoying some Valdalia onions.  They are always very mild due to the soil conditions where they are raised.  It seems dogs have a way of endearing themselves to us.

It looks like the puppy is sitting on him.  Cameras have come a long way now with the ability to take very good pictures with our phones.  I didn't realize that you have been married for 60 years.  That is a wonderful accomplishment.

Patrica, that certainly isn't the type of weather alert one wants to read.  I do hope the river stays within its banks in populated areas.  Glad you explained to Mary Ann what Pockets are as had no idea.  I just watched the cat video.  It was interesting.

Patricia, the video about cats was interesting.  Kendrick is part Bengal, but we don't know what percentage his "part" is.  He does not have the small spots, but more stripes.  He does not look like a tiger in any case.  And he isn't able to be picked up like those cats, however, I think those were kittens and Kendrick is not a kitten.  I enjoyed the video.

We've had rain this morning and it looks like we will have more, accompanying a storm.  We're about due because it has been several days.  I like it when it rains because I don't have to water my outside plants.  It also cools things off - at 9:30 am it is 69 degrees.

I've been working on revamping my trust and I am at the point where I can cut and paste and when I feel it is where I want it, the next step is the lawyer.  I do not want anything else to happen to make more changes necessary!!!

Cooler today, in the 90's

Good morning from the Interior! The expected rain began yesterday in the late afternoon but it really hasn't cooled down. We are at 69 at 8:09 AM and expecting a high of 80 today. We always seem to have humidity with rain but never really with sunny days when you bake. Of course, today is a day that I need to go out for errands and I will need my umbrella.

Larry, you have a pretty granddaughter and they have some cute dogs!

Larry, there are sidewalk slash biking paths that run under bridges and along the banks that occasionally flood. There is also portions of the riverwalk connecting the parks along the rivers that are low-lying as well as parts of Alaskaland's Pioneer Park that are situated on the low-lying ground by the rivers. Probably some of the swampy areas in the Wildlife Sanctuary at Creamers will become more lakes. And perhaps a few basements. But a worse flood isn't expected at this time. The next two days are expected to be partly cloudy with rain again on Thursday so no real weather change. I would love to see the weather return to its old patterns but I guess losing the long drought will have to do.

MaryAnn, while Farrah has more of a calico's color markings, her upper back and head are gray with an orange spot on her lower stomach while the rest of her stomach is white. She has some tabby markings too but instead of stripes, she has spots and she has a definite neck ruff as Abyssinian cats do. I suspect her relatives got around. She is very alert and active, often jumping more than five feet to get from the computer desk to the kitchen bar to the back of the couch. She has also become more vocal.

She has definite routines she expects you to follow such as after breakfast, she will wait for a bit before importuning you for treats. If you go somewhere and return to the living room, she will immediately go to her blue ring where I place her treats. If I ignore this, after awhile, she will come up to me. She stretches up, raps me on the arm and when she has my attention, she goes to sit by the treat closet and whines "Win-Win!" 

She still has never meowed, chittered at birds or rubbed against items to mark them. I would love to really know what became of her. But generally, she has settled in, is no longer afraid, enjoys the folks she knows and has become very affectionate.


I'm glad the video on cats was enjoyed as I enjoyed it. I have seen and heard of both Bengals and Savannahs, locally and yes the Savannah is extremely expensive. But this was the first I had heard of the Toyer and was captivated. However, she made a good point and I was thinking about that as well, the one talking about the cats needing rescue now.

We've seen and heard about the damage indiscriminate breeding of dogs has done and what are the safeguards if any in place for breeding these types of cats?

Farrah is busily playing with her white mouse suspended from the balcony door. She is able to sit on a table placed there and attack the hanging mouse at mid height. I'm savoring my first cup of strong coffee. I have been sleeping into seven lately because I am so tired around nine or ten at night and then wake alert and ready to go at 2 AM. So it is hard to return to sleep. I have insomnia as a part of my PTSD and seem to doze more than sleep so it is an issue.

Angel, today it was 95F in the shade with 85% humidity.  Predictions are for higher temps tomorrow.  Today I had an appointment to the doctor but tomorrow I certainly will not put my nose outside!
